Racing was trying to come to terms with the death of a member of its core workforce on Sunday after Ken Dooley, a groom who worked for trainer Amanda Perrett, died at Kempton in an incident that led to the abandonment of racing on Saturday night. Dooley, who was in his 50s, is believed to have suffered a kick to the head in the racecourse stables shortly after two horses from the Perrett team had run on the all-weather card. His was the second death on a racecourse this year following the stalls incident at Haydock in July which claimed the life of RaceTech stalls handler Stephen Yarborough. Dooley had worked for Perrett's stables in Pulborough, West Sussex for seven years and had a wealth of experience of racing. He was married and a popular member of the team. Champion jockey Jim Crowley, who was riding at Goodwood on Sunday, where jockeys observed a minute's silence and wore black armbands out of respect, said: "Ken was a lovely guy, a funny guy with a good sense of humour. He loved his horses. It’s very sad for everybody. You don’t expect that to happen." Perrett said in a statement on Sunday: "It is with huge sadness that I can confirm we lost our friend and colleague Ken Dooley after an incident in the stable yard at Kempton last night. "Ken had been with us for seven years and was a very special member of our family business at Coombelands. "He was an excellent employee, very experienced with racehorses having worked all of his life with them as a jockey, trainer and jockey coach around the world. "He was always first into work in the morning, hugely enthusiastic and dedicated to his horses and a very much valued and integral member of our team." The statement added: "I would like to thank my staff, the stable and racecourse staff at Kempton, Hugo Palmer’s travelling head lad, Dr Lucy Free and the ambulance service who were so quickly there to help Ken. Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time." A police investigation was launched into the incident that prompted officials at the track to call off the remainder of the meeting before the second-last race. A police statement said: "Surrey police were called to Kempton Park racecourse in Sunbury-on-Thames at around 9.20pm on Saturday, October 14 following reports of a sudden death. "It is reported that a man in his 50s sustained a serious injury to the head whilst tending to a horse in the stables. The death is being treated as non-suspicious. His next of kin have been informed. "Police will be working on behalf of the coroner and in conjunction with the local authority to establish the circumstances surrounding his death." Racegoers were not aware of the medical emergency before the announcement to abandon racing was made over the public address system before the 8.45 race. A stewards' inquiry took place after the incident was reported to them by clerk of the course Barney Clifford, who was interviewed by the panel. The report said: "The clerk of the course stated that the racecourse executive had taken the decision to abandon the remainder of the evening’s racing due to the doctors needing to attend a medical emergency, rendering the course no longer medically compliant to continue racing. This decision was sanctioned by the stewards." Kempton general manager Steve Parlett said on Sunday: "All the team here are shocked and upset by the sad loss of a training stables employee last night. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are very much with his family, friends and colleagues." Devastating news BHA chief executive Nick Rust offered his sympathies on Sunday to those closest to Dooley as he led tributes from industry stakeholders. Rust said: "I'm sure that I speak for everyone at the BHA and everyone in British horseracing this morning when I state that we're truly devastated about the events which unfolded at Kempton last night. "Our sympathies go to the family, friends and colleagues of the individual who has lost his life, and the entire industry will join in mourning over this tragedy. "We owe so much in our sport to the racing grooms who provide such first-class care and attention to our horses. The love and attention that they give to their mounts is unconditional and comes with that small, but ever-present level of risk that exists when working with large animals. This only serves to make their dedication so much more praiseworthy. "The matter now sits with the Surrey police force. My teams were assisting with their investigations last night and will continue to do so. We ask that everyone shows respect and understanding to this process at present." The National Trainers Federation also released a statement on Sunday, which read: "The death of a stable employee on Saturday night at Kempton is a tragedy that touches all in racing. "Reactions across the sport testify to the close bonds that unite us in our common passion, and from the NTF we send our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the individual who has lost his life. "Mercifully, fatal accidents in the course of caring for racehorses in Britain are rare and we acknowledge and salute the commitment of stable employees across the country, who devote their working lives to their horses. "Since last night we have been advising and supporting the trainer and the team at the yard. British horseracing is fortunate to have an excellent support system for its people and this is at the disposal of anyone in times of need." The Racecourse Association also issued a statement on Sunday, saying: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic news from Kempton last night and would like to express sincere condolences on behalf of all racecourses to the family, friends and colleagues of the individual who lost his life. "Racecourses do everything they can to provide a safe working environment in all areas and are equipped to provide the highest level of medical care and attention whenever it is required. "This tragic accident is a reminder of the dangerous nature of the work stable staff do day in day out, and our thoughts are very much with everybody affected at this difficult time." Anyone affected by the incident can seek support through Racing Welfare. There is a 24-hour helpline on 0800 6300 443, and online live chat is also available at www.support.racingwelfare.co.uk.

The outcome of the Stobart Apprentice Jockeys' championship is no longer the foregone conclusion it might have looked a couple of weeks ago, and with five days to go Kieran Shoemark is fancying his chances again.
A fortnight ago David Egan looked home and hosed with a lead of ten, but in the meantime Shoemark has outscored him by eight winners to two, reducing the gap to just four.
Both drew a blank at Windsor on Monday, where Egan's best chance was a non-runner, and they go separate ways on Tuesday, with Egan heading to Kempton and Shoemark to Leicester, before resuming the head-to-head battle on Wednesday.
Shoemark is adamant that it's "still 'doable'", but win or lose he can look back on a season that has surpassed all expectations – as indeed can Egan, who has 51 winners to Shoemark's 47.
Shoemark said: "It looked almost impossible a couple of weeks ago, but now I think I've every chance again as I could have 35 rides this week, and there are plenty of good ones among them. I'll be going to Catterick on Saturday if I've still got a chance."
"Whatever happens though, it's been a fantastic season and definitely tops all that's gone before.
"The Royal Ascot win [on Atty Persse] was fantastic, and I'm riding for all the right trainers. Roger [Charlton, his boss] has been brilliant, and I'm riding regularly for John Gosden, David Menuisier, Amanda Perrett and loads of other good trainers," he added.
'It'll still have been a great season'
Whereas around half of Shoemark's winners have come from Charlton, Egan's support has come from a huge number of different trainers and his boss Roger Varian has provided just one winner from 24 rides. That's not an issue to Egan, however. Far from it.
He said: "The boss has been very supportive. He's being particularly helpful towards the end of the season, and I've got a good ride for him at Lingfield on Wednesday, but riding winners for so many different trainers will help when I lose my claim."
Echoing Shoemark's comments he added: "Even if I were to be caught it'll still have been a great season – a lot better than I could ever have hoped for.
"I could never have imagined starting the final week four winners clear. I didn't even think I could be a contender – I was just looking to keep on improving my riding and to build on last year, but after I won a nice handicap at Ascot on Tisbutadream for David Elsworth things just took off for me."

Colin Keane may be 1-20 to cap his sensational campaign by being crowned champion jockey but the 23-year-old will not be lulled into a false sense of security by Pat Smullen's declaration that the race is over.
Heading for Dundalk last Friday, Keane led the nine-time champion by three. A winner there, two at Cork on Saturday and three at Naas on Sunday saw him extend his lead to seven.
That prompted Smullen to publicly concede defeat. The 40-year-old title holder is due to miss this Saturday's Fairyhouse fixture to ride Eziyra at Ascot and is also likely to sit out Saturday week's Leopardstown card after picking up a one-day careless riding ban at Cork last weekend.
As such, with nine meetings left before the curtain comes down, Smullen might ride only at seven, and he was pushed out to 8-1 by Paddy Power on Sunday evening having been 5-6 with the firm on Friday morning.
Keane, who is now on the 90-winner mark and just one shy of a calendar-year century, insists he has been in the game long enough to know there is no such thing as a certainty in racing.
"I said a few weeks back that I had set my sights set on riding 100 winners this season and that remains the aim," the 2014 champion apprentice said on Monday.
"It will be hard, but that's what I'll be trying to do, because I know Pat well and he won't be going down that easy.
"Pat had a wonderful evening at Dundalk not so long ago when he rode four winners, and if he were to have a day like that again, suddenly he's back in contention. It's my job to keep riding winners and make it difficult for him."
Of the prospect of reaching the promised land, he was quick to pay tribute to his boss Ger Lyons, whose horses have been in top order.
“To win a first title would be great but I wouldn’t be in this position without Ger," said Keane. "He’s had his horses in great form all season and I’ve really enjoyed the year.”
Dermot Weld echoed stable jockey Smullen's sentiments that Keane will now be hard to pass.
“I think it will be very difficult for Pat at this stage," the trainer said on Monday.
“Pat and Colin are terrific riders and the number of finishes they've fought out has been terrific."
Of his Ascot foray this weekend, Weld added: “Eziyra is more than likely going to take her chance in the Fillies & Mares. She won a Group 3 as a two-year-old and is a filly we've always liked.
"She's had a good season, finishing third behind Enable in the Irish Oaks, and she's won back-to-back Group 3s, her most recent win coming in the Enterprise Stakes at Leopardstown.
"I'm very happy with her, and the plan is to run, but we'll make a definite decision later in the week. We've been very lucky on British Champions Day down the years."
Eziyra is a 9-1 shot to secure her first Group 1 success in a race that Weld and Smullen won with Sapphire when it was run as a Group 2 in 2012.
Before then, the next part of the Keane-Smullen joust will take place at Dundalk on Friday night.

Mark Rimell and Tom Marquand have a 60 per cent strike-rate when teaming up at Kempton. Magic Mirror bumped into one here last week and hopefully a change of headgear will do the trick in the 8.15.
Marc Goldstein operates at an impressive 80 per cent strike-rate when riding for Shaun Lycett at Worcester. The pair team up with Scotsbrook Night in the 3.40. She wasn’t beaten far two starts ago at the track and, if she gets the distance, she can outrun her odds.
David Barron and Ben Curtis combine for a 44 per cent strike-rate at Leicester. Pearl’s Calling makes her handicap debut in the 4.30. She hasn’t shown much yet but an 83-day break and a step up in trip could spark some improvement.

Newmarket: David Milnes
Prime Minister (4.00 Leicester, nap)
Chased home a decent Godolphin newcomer on his debut at Yarmouth and expected to go one better after some decent work on the Limekilns last Friday. As a son of Dream Ahead, the Ed Vaughan-trained youngster should handle the easy ground.
Others to follow Leicester 2.00 Bombyx, 3.00 Hyde Park, 3.30 Jumira Bridge, 4.30 Shadow Seeker, 5.00 Hajaam, 5.30 Entangling. Kempton 5.15 Atlanta Belle, 5.45 Foxy Forever, 6.15 Alba Del Sole, 7.15 Spun Gold, 7.45 Ronni Layne.

Kodiline (5.45 Kempton, nap)
Ran arguably his best race of the year in a first-time visor at Newmarket last time and runs off 3lb lower. The drop to 5f may help this three-year-old settle.

7/1 Kodiline 5:45 Kempton (AW) North: Colin Russell
Grey Monk (4.50 Huntingdon, nap)
Easy winner at Market Rasen last season and though hasn't scored since, is now down to a career-low mark and with first-time blinkers and is fancied to bounce back.

in today's sporting life............... Pro punter and National Hunt specialist Murt Khan heads to Huntingdon for today's best bet. 4.50 Huntingdon preview Click here for racecard and free video form There was a massive plunge on AUDACIOUS PLAN over fences last time out, perhaps not surprising as he was having his first start for Dr Richard Newland having left the yard of Rebecca Curtis. Everything went to plan bar the demanding final furlong at Uttoxeter, as he was worn down by the tenacious Lunar Flow. The pair finished a distance clear of the third and unluckily for connections it was a case of bumping into one on the day. Audacious Plan reverts to hurdling here off a 6lb lower mark and with Charlie Hammond on board claiming 7lb. In the past the eight-year-old has shown decent form over the smaller obstacles so that shouldn't be detrimental to his chances and he therefore looks to have a massive chance. He may even appreciate the slightly easier test that Huntingdon presents and from a handicap perspective will take all the beating. Sir Dancealot can rediscover that happy knack of winning races when he lines up on a strong card at Leicester, according to Chris Wilson. The three-year-old colt is a lovely horse, but things have not quite gone his way this year. Indeed, Sir Dancealot has not tasted victory since he claimed the Rockingham at York as a juvenile at this time last year. The son of Sir Prancealot has, however, been aggressively campaigned this season and the seven-furlong Wreake Handicap represents a sizeable drop in class. David Elsworth's inmate was only beaten three lengths in the Park Stakes at Doncaster, before which he was hardly out with the washing in the Hungerford Stakes. The Bunbury Cup runner-up must carry a fair bit of weight at Leicester, but this is obviously not as a strong as a Group race and it is great to see Ryan Moore has kept the faith in him. With conditions seemingly appreciable towards a good run, much is expected of him. Just Glamorous made a sudden return to form at Ascot earlier in the month and has a grand chance of a double in the £25,000 sprint handicap. Having shown next to nothing all summer, the breathing operation before his penultimate run obviously worked the oracle. Ron Harris' chestnut had, frankly, been in appalling form but bold Oisin Murphy tactics in the Listed Rous Stakes rekindled his love of racing. Just Glamorous must carry top weight in this five-furlong dash, but now he has rediscovered his mojo, and with Murphy back on board, he could be hard to pass. His form last summer, when he won three races on the spin on variants of ground, offers enough evidence to prove he is a horse eminently capable of rattling up a sequence.

Trainer Colin Tizzard will consider a trip to Cheltenham in November for Finian's Oscar following his successful debut over fences at Chepstow on Saturday. The dual Grade One-winning hurdler was unsurprisingly prohibitive odds for his chasing bow in the hands of Bryan Cooper. He took a while to warm to his task, which was made significantly easier when the prolific Alcala slipped up on the home bend, but he ultimately got the job done. Asked whether Cheltenham's November meeting could be the next port of call, Tizzard said: "It could. There's no reason not to go there, but there's no reason not to go anywhere else either. "We'll see how he is nearer the time. I haven't really given it a lot of thought." Follow At The Races ✔@attheraces Nicely done! A winning start over fences for Finian's Oscar at @chepstow_Racing and a first winner in those colours for @92bryan92: 3:14 PM - Oct 14, 2017 3 3 Replies 62 62 Retweets 185 185 likes Twitter Ads info and privacy The Dorset-based trainer is pleased with how his charge has recovered from his exertions, but is in no rush to bring him back to competitive action. He added: "He's come out of the race absolutely fine. We're very happy with him. It was a bit of a muddling race and then the grey horse slipped, which was a bit unfortunate for them. "Bryan was happy with him and said he went away when he squeezed him after the last. "He's had a race and I think we'll wait a month with him now anyway. He's a very good horse and we need him for those races in the spring." Finian's Oscar was the only winner of the weekend for the Tizzard team, but several horses performed well in defeat, perhaps most notably Vision Des Flos. The four-year-old set connections back 270,000 euro, having won the Goffs Land Rover Bumper at Punchestown in the spring for Irish trainer Robert Tyner. He was thrown in at the deep end on his jumping debut in the Persian War Novices' Hurdle at Chepstow on Sunday, but ran a race full of promise to finish third. "He ran a lovely race," said Tizzard. "He travelled very well for two miles and then just got a bit tired. You'd like to think he'll shake those up on his next run. He's a gorgeous horse and he's what we were hoping he'd be when we bought him, which isn't always the case."

Harry Angel, superb winner of the Darley July Cup and 32Red Sprint Cup, heads a stellar entry of 14 in the mix for the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes. The Clive Cox-trained three-year-old, who is owned by Godolphin, is officially rated the highest-rated sprinter in the world. Four other speedsters who have won at least one Group One race - Caravaggio, The Tin Man (winner of the Sprint last year), Quiet Reflection and Brando – also line up. In addition, Tasleet and Washington DC have been placed in Group One races run at Ascot and remain in the mix. Clive Cox said of Harry Angel: "We were thrilled with his performance at Haydock. He’s come back absolutely fine and the time scale between then and Champions Day is perfect. We’ve had a chance to see if he’s in good order and keep him in good order. He’s in a good frame of mind and we are very happy with him. “We’ve got no concerns from a going point of view, which is great. I know a lot of people say a good horse will go on any ground, but finding that one is pretty difficult in my mind. We are very lucky. “In The Sandy Lane [on firm going], where he broke the track record, he was very impressive and our concern at Haydock last time was the heavy ground, but we all witnessed he was equally impressive – breathtaking really." Play Video Clive Cox update on Harry Angel - QIPCO British Champions Day The QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup will launch Champions Day in style with the hugely anticipated rematch between Big Orange and Order Of St George, separated by inches in a pulsating Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June, set to open the day’s racing. Also in the mix and added at the supplementary stage is Her Majesty the Queen’s, Dartmouth, who won the Betway Yorkshire Cup by a neck in May. Big Orange prevailed by a short head at the Royal Meeting and subsequently made a valiant attempt to win a third successive Qatar Goodwood Cup, beating all bar Stradivarius, while Order Of St George has since gained a second runaway win in the Irish St Leger and been fourth to Enable in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Stradivarius, a close third in the William Hill St Leger since his defeat of Big Orange at Goodwood, also features among the nineteen horses who remain in the Group Two two-mile feature. Gosden said of Stradivarius: "He’s been a revelation this year – his wins in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and Goodwood Cup were fabulous. If the ground is decent, he will run. "He’s in very good form and was finishing strongly in the Leger where he got to race on his own a bit – the race was happening in the middle, and he was on the rail, and then in the next moment he’s coming back at them. It was probably the best Leger run for a very long time – and run hard. He will be a lot of fun in the Cup races next year." Sheikhzayedroad, winner of the Long Distance Cup last year, is on course to defend his crown, while Desert Skyline, the Doncaster Cup winner. Montaly, who landed the Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup at York in August, and Seventh Heaven for O’Brien add tremendous depth. Andrew Balding said of Montaly: "He’s run well at Ascot in the past without winning and enjoys a bit of give in the ground. He seems to enjoy breaks between his races and I probably ran him too soon at Doncaster [last time]. He’s now had over a month’s break going into Ascot and I think that will serve him well." Play Video Andrew Balding on his QIPCO British Champions Day contenders A maximum field of 20 is again on the cards after 44 entries stood their ground for Europe’s most valuable mile handicap, the Balmoral Handicap (sponsored by QIPCO). The ante-post market leaders, Zabeel Prince and Lord Glitters have stood their ground. The former was an impressive winner from Bravery at York last Friday and has lost only one of his four starts, while the latter made an eye-catching British debut for David O’Meara when splitting Accidental Agent and Raising Sand, who he could meet again, in the seven-furlong totescoop6 Challenge Cup at Ascot earlier this month. Bronze Angel, winner of the race in 2014, could try to regain his crown at the age of eight but is not the oldest among the entries. That honour goes to the evergreen Belgian Bill, who is nine and won the Royal Hunt Cup in 2013. Saeed Bin Suroor saddled Musaddas to win the Balmoral Handicap in 2015 and has Mountain Hunter lined up whilst Richard Fahey has a trio engaged, including Gabrial, who was third to Solow in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day two years ago. Firmament (third) made his presence felt in last year’s renewal of the Balmoral, won by Yuften, while Master The World, winner of the Betfred Mile Handicap at this year’s Qatar Goodwood Festival, is one of two possible runners for David Elsworth. An entry of great depth also includes Gm Hopkins, who was the runner-up two years ago. Stamp Hill, Mjjack and Withernsea, the first three home in the Gigaset International Stakes at Ascot in July, are also engaged. Trainer John Gosden said of Gm Hopkins: "Old Gm runs again, it will probably be his last race for us as he’s going to the Horses In Training sale. He’s in great order but the handicapper has him somewhat by the throat, which isn’t a pleasant experience for a horse but we could not be more pleased with him but are looking forward to running him yet again at Ascot."

Huntingdon, 17 Oct 17 Race 2 - 2:50pm THE 32Red HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 4) SIRUIS STAR wore earplugs.
The Clerk of the Scales reported that Ryan Day, the rider of LARKHALL, placed third, trained by Mike Sowersby, had weighed in at 9st 13lb having weighed out at 9st 11lb. The rider, the trainer and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed. Day was suspended for 3 days as he had taken a drink of water after weighing out, which accounted for the additional weight.
The winner, THAT’S THE DEAL (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Southwell on 3 October 2017 where the gelding finished sixth of eleven, beaten by 20 ¾ lengths. The trainer’s explanation that the gelding had benefitted from an uncontested lead and being able to dominate on this occasion, was noted. THAT’S THE DEAL (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, Sam Twiston-Davies reported that he pulled up BALLYPOINT (IRE) as the gelding jumped poorly and made a bad mistake, and Mike Sowersby reported that LARKHALL, placed third, had lost a right-fore shoe.
Race 3 - 3:20pm THE 32Red CASINO NOVICES' HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) An enquiry was held into the running and riding of NONNO GIULIO (IRE), ridden by Tom O’Brien and trained by Conor Dore which ran keen early on before being settled behind the leaders. Turning into the home straight, NONNO GIULIO (IRE) appeared to be tenderly ridden before making a mistake at the second last flight and was one-paced thereafter, finishing seventh of eight, beaten by 31 ¾ lengths. The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; and the Veterinary Officer reported that the gelding had sustained a significant over-reach to its right-fore and had also lost its right-fore shoe. The rider stated that his instructions were to drop the gelding in, get him to relax and to finish his race, as NONNO GIULIO (IRE) had been running over 7 furlongs and 1 mile on the flat and the trainer was not sure he would get the trip. He added that the gelding had run too free in the early stages, which O’Brien reported at Scale, meaning he was unable to settle NONNO GIULIO (IRE) as planned and had therefore been more prominent than he would have wished. He further added that NONNO GIULIO (IRE) had jumped well, but made a mistake 2 flights out and he could feel the gelding’s stride shortening, so he rode him to the finish hands and feels. The trainer stated although the ride had not accorded with his instructions, he could understand that O’Brien had no choice but to ride NONNO GIULIO (IRE) more prominently, due to the gelding being so keen. He confirmed that under the circumstances, he was happy with the ride given to NONNO GIULIO (IRE). Their explanations were noted.
Race 4 - 3:50pm THE WEATHERBYS GENERAL STUD BOOK ONLINE STEEPLE CHASE (A NOVICES' LIMITED HANDICAP) (CLASS 4) Following the race, Noel Fehily reported that MERIBEL MILLIE, unplaced, ran too free and jumped poorly, and the Veterinary Officer reported that SOUTHPORT, which was pulled up, had bled from the nose. View Stewards report Leicester, 17 Oct 17 Race 1 - 2:00pm THE BRITISH STALLION STUDS EBF NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 4) (PLUS 10 RACE) Just inside the final furlong, the winner, BOMBYX, shifted right whilst racing greenly, carrying SEA YOUMZAIN (IRE), placed second, onto NATURAL HISTORY, placed third, which in turn caused a weakening FAADHEL (GER), unplaced, to be briefly steadied, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of BOMBYX.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that BOLD REASON (GER), placed fourth, lost its right fore shoe.
Race 2 - 2:30pm THE WHISSENDINE SELLING STAKES (CLASS 6) Sylvester Kirk was fined £650 for doubly declaring LATEST QUEST (IRE) to run in the Whissendine Selling Stakes (Class 6) at Leicester and the TALKSPORT HANDICAP (DIV II) (Class 6) at Kempton, and the gelding ran in the latter.
The Starter reported that DUSTY BIN refused to enter the stalls and was withdrawn. The representative of Roy Bowring was informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test. As it was the second occasion within the previous 12 months that DUSTY BIN had been reported, a further report within the same period would result in the gelding being prevented from having a stalls test for 6 months.
Following the race, Josephine Gordon reported that OAKLEY PRIDE (IRE), placed fourth, missed the break and George Wood reported that MOANA, unplaced, was slowly away.
Race 3 - 3:00pm THE WREAKE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) Permission was given for RENE MATHIS (GER) to go early to post.
Following the race, Oisin Murphy reported that VIA VIA (IRE), placed fourth, was denied a clear run inside the final furlong.
Race 4 - 3:30pm THE RACING UK AUTUMN SPRINT HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) Permission was given for VIBRANT CHORDS to wear a hood in the Parade Ring.
The performance of VIBRANT CHORDS, which started favourite and finished unplaced, was considered. Henry Candy explained that the gelding was feeling the effects of a busy season and would now be sent for a break. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of VIBRANT CHORDS during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5 - 4:00pm THE ebfstallions.com REFERENCE POINT MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 4) (PLUS 10 RACE) (Sire/Dam-Restricted Race) Following the race, Silvestre De Sousa reported that MOM SAID (IRE), unplaced, had no more to give.
Race 6 - 4:30pm THE FOSSE WAY NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) An enquiry was held into the apparent improvement in form of the winner, GALLOPING HOGAN (IRE), which had never previously been placed. The representative of Sylvester Kirk was interviewed. It was noted that GALLOPING HOGAN (IRE) had been coltish in his earlier runs and had benefitted from being recently gelded and had stripped fitter from its previous run at Chepstow.
Following the race, Georgia Cox reported that DREAM OF DELPHI (IRE), unplaced, hung left throughout. The Veterinary Officer reported that PURAMENTE, unplaced, lost its right fore shoe.
Race 7 - 5:00pm THE STEWARDS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) (DIV I) The Veterinary Officer reported that AIGUILLE ROUGE (FR) appeared to be suffering from ringworm and Gary Moore did not have a Certificate of Non-Contagiousness. After interviewing his representative and the Veterinary Officer, Gary Moore was fined £140 and skin scrapings from the horse were sent to the Animal Health Trust.
Following the race, Daniel Muscutt reported that SCOONES, unplaced, stopped quickly. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities. Simon Pearce reported that BARTHOLOMEW J (IRE), unplaced, was slowly away and stumbled approaching 2 furlongs out.
Race 8 - 5:30pm THE STEWARDS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) (DIV II) Enquiry Complete - Placings Altered.
BONNIE ARLENE (IRE) wore ear plugs which were removed at the start.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference approaching the final ½ furlong when ENTANGLING (IRE), which dead heated for first place, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa, interfered with VILLETTE (IRE), which also dead heated for first place. The riders were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident. The Stewards considered that the interference had improved ENTANGLING (IRE)’s placing as by tightening up VILLETTE (IRE) against the rail, it caused the filly to become unbalanced and lose ground and momentum as a result. They therefore revised the placings as follows: First; VILLETTE (IRE) and second; ENTANGLING (IRE). De Sousa was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed his mount to edge right without sufficient correction.
Following the race, Matt Cosham reported that SWIFT CEDAR (IRE), placed third, was denied a clear run. B. A. Curtis reported that AUSTERITY (IRE), unplaced, ran too free. View Stewards report Hereford, 17 Oct 17 Fixture Note Abandonded - Abandoned Nothing to report View Stewards report Kempton Park, 17 Oct 17 Race 1 - 5:15pm THE 100% PROFIT BOOST AT 32Redsport.com HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that PROMINNA, placed fourth, was lame right fore.
Race 2 - 5:45pm THE 32Red HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3) Permission was given for ARZAAK (IRE) to go early to post.
Race 3 - 6:15pm THE 32Red/BRITISH STALLIONS STUDS EBF FILLIES' NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 5) (PLUS 10 RACE) GUNS DRAWN (IRE), trained by Richard Hannon was late in the Parade Ring, due to the filly being difficult to saddle.
Following the race, William Buick reported that SPRING COSMOS (IRE), unplaced, was never travelling and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4 - 6:45pm THE 32Red ON THE APP STORE NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) Following the race, Adam Kirby reported that TIEPOLO (IRE), unplaced, was denied a clear run.
Race 5 - 7:15pm THE 32Red CASINO HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) PROSECUTE (FR), trained by Ali Stronge was late in to the Parade Ring, due to difficulties with fitting the tongue tie.
An enquiry was held to consider interference 2 furlongs out when BEYOND RECALL, placed third, ridden by Jamie Spencer interfered with WORLD OF GOOD, unplaced, ridden by Luke Morris. The riders were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident. Spencer was cautioned for careless riding as he manoeuvered left when not sufficiently clear, taking Morris slightly off his intended line.
Following the race, Luke Morris reported that WORLD OF GOOD, unplaced, stopped quickly and Liam Keniry reported that PROSECUTE (FR), unplaced, was slowly away.
Race 6 - 7:45pm THE TALKSPORT HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) (DIV I) DALALAH wore ear plugs and was given permission to be mounted on the chute and go early to post.
Following the race, Hollie Doyle reported that CAIUS COLLEGE GIRL (IRE), unplaced, hung badly left-handed, David Probert reported that INNSTIGATOR, unplaced, was slowly away and Charlie Bennett reported that TINK, unplaced, hung left-handed from turning in.
Race 7 - 8:15pm THE TALKSPORT HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) (DIV II) Permission was given for MELLOW to go early to post.
ANGELICAL EVE (IRE), trained by George Baker was late into the Parade Ring, due to a sarcoid in the girth region causing difficulties when saddling the filly. View Stewards report Worcester, 17 Oct 17 Race 1 - 2:10pm THE GLOSFORD SECURE STORAGE HEREFORD "CONFINED" BEGINNERS' STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 3) Following the race, the representative of Dan Skelton reported that JUST A FEELING, which was pulled up, had a breathing problem.
Race 2 - 2:40pm THE CENTRAL ROOFING & BUILDING SERVICES MARES' HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 3) (Qualifier for The Challenger Mares' Steeple Chase Series Final) Permission was given for SHEER POETRY (IRE) to go early to post.
The winner, SHEER POETRY (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared to its previous run in a Novices’ Chase at Newton Abbot on 29 August 2017 where the mare finished last of the three runners, beaten 59½ lengths. The representative of the trainer’s explanation that the mare was suited by running in a handicap rather than a novices’ chase was noted. SHEER POETRY (IRE) was routine tested.
Richard Woollacott was fined £140 as the record of vaccinations in the passport of SHEER POETRY (IRE) did not comply with the Rules of Racing.
Race 3 - 3:10pm THE CENTRAL ROOFING SOUTH WALES 'NATIONAL HUNT' NOVICES' HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) Permission was given for BRUNEL WOODS (IRE) to go early to post.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that PHOENIX ROCK (IRE), placed fourth, lost its left fore shoe.
Race 4 - 3:40pm THE CENTRAL ROOFING WEST WALES MARES' HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) Permission was given for CORRIE LOCH to go early to post.
As the start was effected, CORRIE LOCH, unplaced, proved reluctant to jump off, a fact reported by James Davies at Scales, and the mare ducked right-handed, causing JAZZ THYME (IRE), unplaced, to be hampered, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GI JAYNE (IRE), which was pulled up, had bled from the nose.
Race 7 - 5:10pm THE CENTRAL ROOFING AVIATION HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5) Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that UJAGAR (IRE), which was pulled up, lost its right fore shoe.

Msayyan (1.30 Nottingham)
John Gosden's son of Camelot was extremely unlucky not to get off the mark at the first time of asking when hampered multiple times in the run at Kempton, eventually only going down by a neck to a 33-1 outsider. He showed he had plenty of ability that day and the extra half-furlong won't harm his chances. Frankie Dettori replaces Robert Tart and this Derby-entered colt should make amends.
4/6 Msayyan 1:30 Nottingham EYECATCHER
Stylish Dancer (3.55 Lingfield)
Almost certainly well handicapped off a mark of 67, as well as receiving 8lb weight-for-age allowance, this should be a penalty kick for Luca Cumani's thrice-raced daugher of Nathaniel. She was faced with two difficult maidens to start her career, before proving she had enough talent in the locker to win a race or two when second behind Mixboy at Ripon. That winner has since run creditably in a handicap off a mark of 78 and despite stepping up from 1m4f to 2m, she looks the only improver in this field and should win.
15/8 Stylish Dancer 3:55 Lingfield (AW) IRISH ANGLE
Artic Pearl (3.40 Punchestown)
There look to be a few jollies on the Punchestown card that, barring accidents, should win their respective races in the shape of Campeador, Cracking Smart and Petit Mouchoir. However, they're all likely to be very short prices and the best bet on the card could be Artic Pearl. His career form figures of 006668U are hardly inspiring, but he has been fancied on his last three starts and would have won but for a slipped saddle approaching the last when unseating Roger Loughran 11 days ago. He's prone to a mistake, so your heart will be in your mouth over the obstacles, but he has the raw talent to dispose of these.

Skidby Mill hasn’t shown anything on her last three starts but this seven-time course-and-distance winner now races off 1lb lower than her last winning mark. The assistance of a 5lb claimer can see her return to form in the 3.25 at Lingfield.
It’s hard to recommend I’mwaitingforyou in the 9.15 at Kempton as she has shown nothing yet, but there must be a reason why Peter Bowen has brought the mare back after three years off. He applies a tongue-tie for the first time, operating at a 24 per cent-strike rate when doing so.
When sending runners 247 miles or further, Johnny Farrelly operates at a 25 per cent strike-rate. He sends just Degooch to Wetherby for the 4.55 and this one looks to have the boot for the shorter trip. With Noel Fehily back on board and better ground to suit, he can go close.
This is a prime time for Lucy Wadham, who operates at 23 per cent strike-rate in this period for the past five years. She sends Bermondsey Belle to Lingfield for the 3.55 and this filly looks interesting stepping up to 2m with Kieran Shoemark on board.

Newmarket: David Milnes
Sheikha Reika (2.30 Nottingham, nap)
Just run out of it by a decent type in Stream Song over a mile at Newmarket last time and faces nothing in that league this time. Roger Varian's juvenile blew out nicely for this on the Al Bahathri on Monday.

Galactic (3.05 Nottingham)
On a fair mark on best form to date and at a slight tactical disadvantage on latest two runs. Promises to stay the mile and worth chancing in what looks a fairly ordinary race.
11/1 Galactic 3:05 Nottingham Topspeed: Dave Edwards
Melinoe (4.05 Nottingham)
Has found one just too good twice recently and Sir Mark Prescott's filly richly deserves to get her head back in front.
5/2 Melinoe 4:05 Nottingham Longshot: Ed Quigley
Forge Meadow (2.35 Punchestown)
Entitled to have needed her recent outing (when well beaten) but can get competitive with trip and ground to suit.
10/1 Forge Meadow 2:35 Punchestown Ireland: Tony O'Hehir
A Sizing Network (4.45 Punchestown)
The Jessica Harrington-trained seven-year-old ended a run of placed efforts over fences at Clonmel on his most recent start when scoring over three miles. A front-runner with loads of experience, he reverts to handicap company here and gets the vote to follow up what was an overdue victory last time.

in today's sporting life............. Connections of Johannes Vermeer are convinced the colt's brisk turn of foot from the starting stalls can get him out of any potential trouble in the BMW Caulfield Cup on Saturday. Aidan O'Brien's four-year-old is favourite for the Group One over a mile and a half after he got to within a head of Gailo Chop in the Caulfield Stakes last weekend. Johannes Vermeer faces 16 rivals in what is always a feisty encounter and will break from stall two under Ben Melham. When asked if the big field would be a hindrance, O'Brien's assistant TJ Comerford told the Herald Sun: "Not at all because he's actually quick away from the barrier. You saw how quick away he was the other day (in the Caulfield Stakes). "He can just slot in wherever he wants after that." Melham added: "I wasn't fussed about where I drew because I'm on a horse in good form that is ready to back-up well. That (stall two) just makes it a little better and everything is working perfectly." Willie Mullins, by contrast, believes a wide draw in stall 16 could be an issue for Wicklow Brave, who will be ridden by Joao Moreira. He told the Irish Times: "Wicklow Brave actually worked very well (on Tuesday morning) but that outside draw will test him."

Trainer Willie Mullins reiterated his desire to run Faugheen in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown in November. The 2015 champion hurdler has been absent since January 2016, but the brilliant nine-year-old is likely to return to the fray this autumn. Mullins told the Irish Times: "It will probably be the Morgiana. That's the point we're aiming to start him off in. "We had him fairly fit before he went out so I think he will be fairly forward by the time the Morgiana comes around." Faugheen has won seven Grade Ones in a dazzling career, but a stress fracture has left him sidelined for 21 months. His one defeat under Mullins' tutelage came in the 2015 Morgiana Hurdle, when he was defeated half a length by stablemate Nichols Canyon. Mullins has yet to formulate a gameplan for Yorkhill, who features prominently in the betting for races like the Gold Cup and the Champion Hurdle. The seven-year-old has won at the last two Cheltenham Festivals and did really well to take top honours in the JLT Novices' Chase in March. That was his fourth Grade One triumph, but plans for Yorkhill remain fluid at this stage. Mullins said: "We haven't even started schooling him yet so whether he goes over hurdles or fences I don't know yet. He is in great form." . Mullins reports Melbourne Cup contenders Thomas Hobson and Max Dynamite in top trim ahead of the big race at Flemington on November 7. The County Carlow handler has recruited Joau Moreira to ride the former, but he is still on the lookout for a jockey for 2015 Melbourne Cup runner-up Max Dynamite. Mullins said: "Both travelled very well and lost very little weight, which is a great sign. Thomas is in good shape, fit and raring to go. "So is Max although he will probably need a little more work. We'll see how that goes before thinking about a jockey for him." Stablemate Riven Light had also been part of Mullins' Australian team, but his journey was cut short after he fractured an off-fore joint during the Caulfield Stakes last weekend. His trainer is, however, optimistic the Rich Ricci-owned five-year-old will make a full recovery. Mullins said: "He's had two screws put in and the prognosis is good. It will take time but he should be back next season."

Murt Khan's focus falls on Wetherby as the NH expert and professional punter looks for more profits on Wednesday. 3.45 Wetherby preview Click here for racecard and free video form It's easy to look at AFTER HOURS' recent form figures and suggest the horse may be a bit of a thinker; he has finished second five times from his last six starts. However, in each of his last two runs he caught my eye. At Hereford he shifted out to the left at his fences and for me found himself in front far too soon and was unlucky to get nutted by Crown Hill right on the post. Next time out I wasn't too sure if he would see out the trip; he travelled and jumped well and looked the winner for most of the race but found Regal Flow a bit too strong for him after the last fence. In both these races After Hours and the victor finished well clear of the rest of their rivals. Today he appears after a 202-day lay-off and encounters decent ground over 2m 4f. These conditions will be markedly different compared to his last couple starts. However, he has shown form on decent ground early in his career and with his high cruising speed I think he will be just as effective. Henry Oliver has had one winner (14/1) and three seconds (66/1, 4/1 and 8/1) from his last six runners so I'm hoping After Hours is fit enough to do himself justice. If so, he will go very close to adding a third win of his career to his CV. The Phillip Hobbs-trained BALLOTIN is a dark horse on his return to action in first-time cheekpieces and is worth a saver. 2.45 Wetherby preview Click here for racecard and free video form MINELLA ARIS is a real equine beauty and I feel he's the type who can go through the ranks if staying injury free. Irish Champion Hurdle hero Petit Mouchoir kicks off his career over fences on a quality card at Punchestown on Wednesday. A smart novice for champion trainer Willie Mullins two seasons ago, the Gigginstown House Stud-owned grey joined Henry de Bromhead prior to the start of the last campaign and struck Grade One glory in both the Ryanair Hurdle and the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown. He was a highly creditable third after making much of the running in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March and makes his first competitive appearance since in the Coral.ie Bet & Watch Irish And UK Racing Live Beginners Chase, with Davy Russell taking the ride for the first time. De Bromhead said: "He seems good and we've been happy with him at home. He's schooled well and Punchestown is a nice place to start him off." Petit Mouchoir faces 10 rivals in the two-mile contest including the Gordon Elliott-trained Brelade, who was placed in the Deloitte Novice Hurdle last season and was runner-up on his chasing debut at Gowran Park late last month. A handful of familiar names contest the Coral.ie Free Racehorse Ownership With The Coral Champions Club Rated Hurdle. Elliott saddles both the hat-trick seeking The Game Changer and Campeador, who fell at the final flight when looking the likely winner of the 2016 Fred Winter Juvenile Hurdle at Cheltenham. The JP McManus-owned five-year-old ran just once last season, also coming to grief at the final flight when holding every chance of landing a valuable prize at Fairyhouse. Shark Hanlon's veteran Hidden Cyclone is sent into battle once more, while De Bromhead is hoping Ornua can get his career back on track after pulling up in the Galway Hurdle. "I think he went off a bit quick in Galway. He seems in good form, so we'll see how we go," added De Bromhead. Dermot Weld's 2014 Champion Bumper hero Silver Concorde gets an eighth chance to open his jumping account in the Coral.ie Bet 5 Euros Get 20 Euros In Free Bets Maiden Hurdle. The nine-year-old faces a far from straightforward task, however, with Elliott's Cracking Smart, Joseph O'Brien's Shady Operator and Borderline Chatho from Alan Fleming's yard all bringing quality form from the National Hunt Flat sphere to the table. Espoir D'Allen, a winner on the Flat in France, is an interesting recruit to the jumping game for owner McManus and trainer Gavin Cromwell in the opening Coral.ie Best Price Guaranteed On All Irish Races 3-Y-O Hurdle.

The first stage of the BHA’s formal industry consultation regarding the future model for racecourse stewarding in Britain closed yesterday.
The aim of the consultation was to gather views on how to maintain the highest standards of racecourse decision-making as the sport modernises and becomes increasingly complex to regulate.
At the time of closing, 118 responses were received from a range of individuals, groups and stakeholder bodies.
Detailed recommendations will now be developed by the BHA, in consultation with the sport’s Members’ Committee, and the resulting options will then be the subject of further, more targeted consultation, involving the key stakeholder bodies in racing.
Jamie Stier, Chief Regulatory Officer for the BHA, said:
“We are extremely grateful to everyone who has taken part in this process, either by submitting an individual response or taking part in a group submission. We recognise that the consultation has generated a lot of interest from people who are passionate about the sport. We look forward to now getting to work on assessing the responses and using the feedback to generate proposals.
“We now go into the second phase of this process with an open mind as to what the proposals will look like. However, we remain committed to the fact that any solution should meet the initial objectives of delivering a stewarding model which provides confidence, accountability, consistency, quality, independence, sustainability and efficiency.”

Race 3 - 6:45pm THE 32Red ON THE APP STORE FILLIES' NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 5) (PLUS 10 RACE) (DIV I) An enquiry was held into the running and riding of ALACRITAS, ridden by Stevie Donohoe, and trained by David Simcock, which was restrained early in the race and appeared to be tenderly handled in the straight to finish seventh, beaten 11 ½ lengths. The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Handicapper offered observations and the Veterinary Officer reported that ALACRITAS had been struck into on its left fore. The rider stated that his instructions were to get cover as she has been keen in her races, to get her settled and to get her to run on and do her best up the straight. He further added that ALACRITAS was hanging left-handed in the straight, which he had reported at scales and because of that ran onto the heels of THISTIMELASTYEAR. The trainer’s representative confirmed that ALACRITAS was a buzzy filly and had been keen in her races. Their explanations were noted.
Following the race John Egan reported that HAPPY ENDING, unplaced, suffered interference at the start.

Following the race the performance of AL MUSTASHAR (IRE), which finished unplaced, was considered. The representative of Saeed bin Suroor could offer no explanation for the colt’s performance.
Race 6 - 8:15pm THE 32Red/STALLIONS BREEDING WINNERS EBF FILLIES' HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) Permission was given for FIRST DANCE (IRE) to wear a hood in the parade ring only. PARLANCE (IRE) wore earplugs.
The Starter reported that YELLOWHAMMER, trained by Roger Charlton, was reluctant to enter the stalls. The trainer was informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
Kieran Shoemark, the rider of the winner, YELLOWHAMMER, was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level in the final one and a half furlongs. Taking into account that this was the rider’s fifth such suspension within the previous 6 months Shoemark was referred to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
