Timeform have Aidan O’Brien’s Australia rated only narrowly ahead of Mukhadram and Telescope in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York on Wednesday No wonder Joseph O'Brien is all smiles However, the ratings experts still expect the dual Derby winner to pass his latest test with flying colours. Australia has fully lived up to his lofty reputation this year, finishing a close third in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket before landing the Derby at Epsom in impressive fashion and easily following up in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh. On the back of those victories, Australia is just 1lb higher than his older rivals Mukhadram and Telescope on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings, but he retains the Timeform ‘p’ symbol indicating that he remains capable of better and Chief Correspondent Jamie Lynch is expecting big things from him. “Australia has the potential to make the leap from current great to all-time great, and there’s a feeling within Timeform that the intermediate trip of a mile and a quarter, which he tackles for the first time at York, will be the springboard for him scaling even greater heights in ratings terms," he said. "It’s unusual for a dual Derby winner to have competition for the spotlight, and both Kingman and Taghrooda have achieved something special this summer, but Australia could easily outrank them both if he turns it on in the International over prospectively his best distance.” Telescope and Mukhadram finished second and third respectively behind the Oaks winner Taghrooda in the King George at Ascot last time and will once again struggle to give weight away to a progressive three-year-old according to Lynch. “Both Telescope and Mukhadram are now established Group One performers, but the King George proved that they’re vulnerable to a star three-year-old, which is exactly what Australia is," he continued. "The presence of such solid older horses makes this a big test for him, but Australia has risen to every challenge so far and he looks to have the firepower to run to the sort of 130+ rating that would put him in an elite bracket of active racehorses.” Juddmonte International (all ratings weight-adjusted) 137p AUSTRALIA, 136 MUKHADRAM, 136 TELESCOPE, 131 THE GREY GATSBY, 125 KINGFISHER, 123 AROD

Next month's Champagne Stakes at Doncaster has been pencilled in as the likely target for Belardo following his impressive victory at Newbury on Saturday. Belardo: Could run in the Champagne Stakes Roger Varian's Lope De Vega colt made a big impression when making a winning debut at Yarmouth at the end of June and only enhanced his reputation when a highly creditable fourth behind leading juvenile Ivawood in Newmarket's July Stakes. Stepped up to seven furlongs on an easier surface for Denford Stud Stakes, Belardo swept his rivals aside to leave connections dreaming of next year's Classics. Ted Voute, racing manager for owner Prince Faisal, said: "We were delighted with him and he couldn't have done any more. "I don't think Hawkesbury (runner-up) ran up to his best, which is a shame, but our horse was the winner on the day and it was a lovely performance. "It's always a sign of a class horse when they can handle any sort of ground and he seems to be pretty adaptable. Andrea (Atzeni) adores the horse and he was as delighted as anyone in the winner's enclosure. "He has plenty of entries, but in an ideal world I think the Champagne Stakes (September 13) is probably his most likely next target. If he needs a bit more time, then we'll have a rethink, but Doncaster is probably where he's heading. "He's an exciting horse and you'd like to think he could end up in the 2000 Guineas. That's a long way off at this stage, but that has to be the dream. "He's a lovely moving horse and his form stacks up, so it's exciting."

George Baker, the rider of HAARIB, placed fourth, reported that the colt was slowly away.
Robert Havlin, the rider of DIAMOND RUNNER (IRE), unplaced, reported that the gelding was slowly away.
Race 6 - 4:45pm THE LOTHBURY PENDIL FINANCIAL SERVICES HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference from four furlongs out. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that CLAPPERBOARD, unplaced, ridden by William Carson, who then interfered with BALTIC FIRE (IRE), placed third, ridden by Joey Haynes. They found the interference was accidental.
William Carson, the rider of CLAPPERBOARD, unplaced, reported that the filly ran keen.
Amy Scott, the rider of RAPUNZAL, unplaced, reported that the filly was unsuited by the track. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Luke Morris, the rider of POPPING CANDY, unplaced, reported that the filly stopped quickly.
Race 7 - 5:15pm THE D.E.H. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS LTD HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) Kieran Shoemark, the rider of PERFECT MISSION, unplaced, reported that the gelding ran too free and stopped quickly. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
View Stewards Report Worcester, 19 Aug 14
Fixture NoteThe Stewards gave permission for the second fence in the back straight to be omitted, due to the fence being under repair.
Race 1 - 5:10pm THE UNDER STARTIN ORDERS NOVICES' HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 4) Richard Johnson, the rider of ACCORDING TO SARAH (IRE), placed fourth, reported that the mare suffered interference in running.
The Stewards considered the running of MONETARY FUND (USA), ridden by Aidan Coleman and trained by Venetia Williams, which finished unplaced. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Charlie Deutsch, the rider of LONG WAVE (IRE), placed third, reported that the gelding suffered interference in running.
Race 2 - 5:40pm THE HALLMARKHULME HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 4) The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference on the run to the line. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, DRUMLANG (IRE), ridden by Robert Mccarth, had interfered with KYLES FAITH (IRE), placed second, ridden by Ian Popham, after taking into account how both horses were travelling at the time of the incident, the material extent of the interference, the official margin of 1 1/4 lengths and subsequent running of the race the Stewards ruled the interference had not improved DRUMLANG’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered. The Stewards found Mccarth in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he was slow to correct the gelding from drifting left which resulted in KYLES FAITH being hampered when carried off his intended line for some distance. They suspended Mccarth for 3 days as follows: Wednesday 3, Thursday 4 and Saturday 6 September 2014.
The Stewards noted that PERFECT TIMING, placed fourth, jumped right handed at the third last fence causing interference to BALLYGROOBY BERTIE (IRE), unplaced, which stumbled badly after receiving a heavy bump on landing but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved PERFECT TIMING’s placing.
Race 3 - 6:10pm THE STARTIN HONDA CIVIC TOURER HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 4) The Veterinary Officer reported that MISSION COMPLETE (IRE), placed second, trained by Jonjo O'Neill, lost his left fore shoe during the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that TRADITIONAL BOB (IRE), which was pulled up, trained by Evan Williams, was lame in front.
Race 4 - 6:40pm THE STARTIN SKODA YETI NOVICES' HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 5) The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Adam Wedge, the rider of THINK ITS ALL OVER (USA), placed second, from approaching the last fence. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Wedge for 4 days as follows: Wednesday 3, Thursday 4, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 September 2014.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Brendan Powell, the rider of the winner, TO THE SKY (IRE), from the third last fence. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Powell for 2 days as follows: Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 September 2014.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of FAUSTINA PIUS (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Martin Keighley, the trainer of MIDNIGHT THOMAS, unplaced, reported that the gelding had a breathing problem.
Race 5 - 7:10pm THE HALLMARKHULME 'NATIONAL HUNT' MAIDEN HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5) The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Robert Dunne, the rider of BRING BACK CHARLIE, placed fourth, had appeared to stop riding passing the half furlong marker. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found him in breach of Rule (B)59.3.2.1 and guilty of failing to ride out on a horse that would have finished third. They suspended him for 10 days as follows: Wednesday 3, Thursday 4, Saturday 6, Sunday 7, Monday 8, Tuesday 9, Wednesday 10, Tuesday 16, Wednesday 17 and Friday 19 September 2014.
Race 7 - 8:10pm THE MARK GEOBEY'S 50th BIRTHDAY 24th AUGUST CONDITIONAL JOCKEYS' HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5) The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Kielan Woods, the rider of the winner, MY NOSY ROSY, from approaching the second last. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Woods for 4 days as follows: Wednesday 3, Thursday 4, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 September 2014.
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approaching the final bend. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that SWEET SUGAR (FR), unplaced, ridden by Conor Shoemark, had interfered with KRUSEMAN, placed fourth, ridden by Michael Nolan, who in turn interfered with BENNY'S QUEST (IRE), placed third, ridden by Peter Carberry. They found the interference was accidental.

Race 2 - 5:30pm THE BULMERS CIDER NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) The Veterinary Officer reported that DIMINUTIVE (IRE), unplaced, trained by Grace Harris, was struck into.
Thomas Brown, the rider of PICCADILLO, placed fourth, reported that the filly became unbalanced down the hill.
Race 5 - 7:00pm THE JOHN SMITH'S EXTRA SMOOTH HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) The Stewards noted that SIOUXPERHERO (IRE), unplaced, had interfered with OCEAN STORM (IRE), shortly after the start, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
Graham Gibbons, the rider of POSTSCRIPT (IRE), placed second, reported that the gelding was denied a clear run.
Steve Drowne, the rider of EXPRESS HIMSELF (IRE), placed fourth, reported that the colt hung right-handed in the closing stages.
Race 6 - 7:30pm THE FOSTER'S GOLD HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference shortly after the start. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that GABRIAL THE THUG (FR), placed second, ridden by David Nolan, had interfered with TUNNEL TIGER (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Callum Shepherd, who in turn interfered with the winner, SHADES OF SILVER, ridden by William Twiston-Davies, who in turn interfered with SOFIAS NUMBER ONE (USA), unplaced, ridden by Billy Cray. The Stewards found Nolan in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his horse to drift right-handed without sufficient correction. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Tuesday 2 September 2014.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by William Twiston-Davies, the rider of the winner, SHADES OF SILVER, two furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Twiston-Davies for 2 days as follows: Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 September 2014.

Willie McCreery is optimistic Colour Blue can further showcase her consistent streak when she runs in the Listed Vincent O'Brien Ruby Stakes at Killarney on Wednesday. The three-year-old filly was beaten a length into third by Dalkova in a Listed contest at the Galway Festival and was a course and distance winner in May. McCreery said: "She's a tough little one who does nothing at home. She doesn't need to, though, as she's very clear-winded. She ran a blinder in Galway and hopefully it will be nice ground and that will suit her. She has freshened up since Galway." The trainer added: "My concern is that she is drawn nine of 10 and it will be hard to be prominent. I don't want to burn up too much horse. She won over course and distance and zipped round the corners well from the front. "She has been very consistent. Her only bad run came in Killarney and I wouldn't want her doing that again." Mick Halford's Mizzava is the highest-rated horse in the field. She was last seen finishing mid-division in a Group Three at the Curragh in May on soft to heavy ground. Halford said: "She hasn't been out since May as she had a little issue, but that's sorted and she is in good form and fit and well. The good ground isn't a concern as she has form on fast ground in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and at Royal Ascot. "If she runs up to her rating she should go well." Dermot Weld's Brooch raised many an eyebrow in Galway with the manner of her nine-and-a-half-length maiden victory and is pitched into this company on just her second start. Jim Bolger runs Flight Risk, who is also lightly raced. He was fourth in the Group Three Phoenix Sprint Stakes on August 10 on his second racecourse appearance. Aidan O'Brien has won four of the last five renewals of this race and he relies upon Sparrow, who was unplaced in her last three runs which came at Listed level. Michael Hussey takes the ride. =================================== Next month's Champagne Stakes at Doncaster has been pencilled in as the likely target for Belardo following his impressive victory at Newbury on Saturday. Roger Varian's Lope De Vega colt made a winning debut at Yarmouth at the end of June and only enhanced his reputation when a highly creditable fourth behind leading juvenile Ivawood in Newmarket's July Stakes. "He's a lovely moving horse and his form stacks up, so it's exciting." ======================================== Jamie Osborne is on the hunt for a new jockey for his stable star Toast Of New York in the Pacific Classic Stakes at Del Mar this weekend. The UAE Derby winner, who ran well for a long way in the Belmont Derby on his last foray to America, has been ridden in four of his six races by Jamie Spencer. But Spencer has now been claimed by his boss, Sheikh Fahad, to ride Secret Gesture in the Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville on Sunday. "At the moment I haven't got a clue who'll be riding," said Osborne. "I need to do a bit of research and see who is available but we need to have somebody sorted by Wednesday night when they do the draw. "I don't really know a lot about American jockeys but I've just spoken to Neil Drysdale (American trainer) and he is going to have a ring around and see who is available for me. " Jamie thought he'd be available but he's going to have to ride Secret Gesture instead." Spencer told At The Races: "I'm at York on Saturday because Sheikh Fahad has runners, and then I'm in France on Sunday because Secret Gesture is running there, she isn't running in the Yorkshire Oaks. "I didn't think I'd be riding in Europe on Sunday but that's all changed, that's the way it goes. Secret Gesture should have a good chance in that race. "Toast Of New York is back on Polytrack and should have a good chance, too, even though he's taking on the older horses. "He didn't run to form the last time, even though the race has worked out well. "He was only beaten three lengths but he didn't run near his form." ====================================== Avenir Certain stamped her class on the Shadwell Prix de la Nonette as she maintained her unbeaten record at Deauville. Jean-Claude Rouget's star filly won the French 1000 Guineas and the French Oaks earlier this season but dropped down in class for this Group Two contest. Gregory Benoist oozed confidence on the three-year-old and came through the middle of the pack to win impressively from stable companion and pacemaker Crisolles. The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe could now beckon for the winner, where she would tackle a mile and a half for the first time. Rouget said: "Avenir Certain is an extraordinary filly, a great champion." Roger Charlton's Be My Gal, a Group Three winner at the track last month, faded to finish last of the seven runners, with Pat Shanahan's Maid Of The Glens just in front of her. David Simcock's Madame Chiang was a non-runner. Avenir Certain is now set to head straight for the Arc, instead of running in the Prix Vermeille at Longchamp on September 14. Rouget does, however, accept the filly is not guaranteed to get the mile-and-and-a-half trip of the big one on October 5. He said: "We are coming to the end of the season and you have to make choices. If she was running in the Vermeille I wouldn't have run her in this race. "My aim is to bring her to the Arc fresh. I am not convinced that she is a true 2,400-metre filly but her class could compensate for that. "We have nothing to lose. If she is beaten we can say it is because she didn't stay and if she wins, well, it's a bit early for that. We have nothing to lose and everything to win. If she is beaten we will keep her over a 2,000-metre (mile-and-a-quarter) programme as a four-year-old. "I think she will stay in training, even if she wins the Arc, but that is a conversation to have with the owners. It is very rare to get a horse like her so you need to make the most of it, we will worry about breeding later. "She is a true-race filly, just like Goldikova or Moonlight Cloud." ======================================= Anthem Alexander will attempt to defy a penalty in the Pinsent Masons Lowther Stakes at York on Thursday rather than tackle her elders in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes later in the week. Eddie Lynam's speedy filly won the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and will carry 3lb more than all of her rivals due to that success. However, she faces a far from straightforward task, as fellow Royal Ascot winner Cursory Glance will represent Roger Varian while the wide-margin Super Sprint winner Tiggy Wiggy is also in opposition. Cursory Glance won the Albany Stakes in impressive fashion and runs here rather than going to Ireland for the Debutante Stakes on Sunday. Tiggy Wiggy has been kept busy by Richard Hannon and has won four of her six races, although she was beaten a neck by Anthem Alexander at Ascot. Patience Alexander, in the same ownership as Lynam's filly but trained by David Evans, was third behind Cursory Glance at Ascot but disappointed at Haydock recently and needs to bounce back. Brian Meehan's Sulaalaat was a four-length winner at Nottingham while Pastoral Girl was a fine second in a Group Three at Ascot for James Given. Richard Fahey runs Bimbo and Realtra, who was no match for Tiggy Wiggy at Newbury, while Bryan Smart is represented by She's A Worldie and Jo Hughes runs Lady Gemini. ======================================== Ed Dunlop's Prince Gagarin aims to follow in the footsteps of his half-brother Elusive Pimpernel by winning the Tattersalls Acomb Stakes at York on Wednesday . Elusive Pimpernel won the race impressively in 2007 and was well fancied for the following season's 2000 Guineas after also winning the Craven Stakes. He was trained by John Dunlop for Cristina Patino's Windflower Holdings operation and the pair jointly own Prince Gagarin. Third in a good Newbury maiden on his debut, he won a three-runner novice event at Newmarket last time out. "We'll try to emulate his half-brother but it looks fiercely competitive. He's done nothing wrong, he ran a nice race in his maiden and then won his novice race, although that form hasn't worked out," said Dunlop. "We're still learning about him so we'll just see how he gets on. You often get some nice horses running in it and this year looks no exception. "Mr (Aidan) O'Brien is bringing one over (Jamaica) which will no doubt be favourite and Richard Hannon's horse (Basateen) won a maiden by a very long way." Basateen struck at Doncaster by eight lengths and Hannon told "We like Basateen a lot and he confirmed the promise he showed first time out at Newmarket when bolting up in his maiden at Doncaster by eight lengths. Now he has to prove he is a Group horse, but we think he is." William Buick rides Dutch Connection for Charlie Hills having won a valuable Goodwood maiden on him in fine style. He had previouly been no match for John Gosden's exciting Faydhan at Haydock. Buick wrote in his At The Races blog: "This is never a soft Group race but it looks extremely competitive this year with the highest-rated in the race being Chadic off 100. " My horse is on 87, only 4lb behind the second in, Salateen, and while there are some unknown quantities amongst the others I got a good feel off Dutch Connection when I rode him for the second time, which was at Goodwood at the beginning of August. "When I partnered him previously at Haydock over six he couldn't get to grips with the exciting Faydhan, but at Goodwood he travelled smoothly and definitely appreciated the seventh furlong. I'm sure he's going to come on again and although he handled the undulations at Goodwood, I reckon that a galloping track like York will suit him even better. "I'd have respect for Peter Chapple-Hyam's Misleading who I won on at the same Goodwood meeting and I liked Prince Gagarin when he finished ahead of me at Newmarket last time but I'm happy to be with Dutch Connection." Brian Meehan's Growl won his only race at Ascot and looks an exciting type for a trainer whose horses generally improve greatly for their first outing. He told his website: "Growl (was) expected to run a big race on his debut in what looked a very good maiden at Ascot and he duly delivered, producing a smart turn of foot to put the race to bed with something in hand. "(He) takes a step up in class here, but we have been very pleased with him since that success, and we anticipate another high level performance." ======================================= Ladbrokes St Leger favourite Kingston Hill puts his Classic credentials on the line in the Neptune Investment Management Great Voltigeur Stakes at York on Wednesday. Trainer Roger Varian is not yet fully committing his stable star to Doncaster, but admits a strong performance in the Group Two, which has in recent years produced several Leger winners, is likely to put another trip north on the agenda. Runner-up in the Derby behind Australia, he possibly found the trip too sharp and the ground too fast at Sandown in the Eclipse last time out. With Varian's stable jockey Andrea Atzeni required to ride Postponed for his retained owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum, Ryan Moore comes in for the ride. "It is genuine good ground so we have no worries in that regard, and a nice, galloping track like York should suit him, you would think," said Varian. "He's going back up in trip and the ground won't be as quick as it was in the Eclipse. Ryan hasn't been to sit on him but he's a very straightforward horse that takes no knowing. Ryan sits on plenty of horses cold and Ryan is Ryan, I don't expect that to be an issue. "He wouldn't be 100 per cent certain to run in the St Leger if he did go and win at York, but we have talked about it enough for it to be on the agenda without it being set in stone. I think it would be fair to say if it all went well and the trip didn't look beyond him then it might look the logical thing to do without it being a given." Not far behind Kingston Hill at Epsom was Red Galileo in fifth but he was tailed off next time in the Gordon Stakes at Gooodwood. "It was far too quick for him the last day. Ryan (Moore) said it was like a road and he let him come home in his own time. He's been in good form since and will wear a tongue-strap as he got his tongue over the bit last time. The plan after Epsom was Goodwood but that went wrong so we'll see where we are after York," said trainer Ed Dunlop. Aidan O'Brien is hoping Granddukeoftuscany can stake his claim for a place in the St Leger with a bold display after winning his maiden by 19 lengths. "Granddukeoftuscany had a nice run at the Curragh first time. He obviously improved and then he won his maiden very easily. He is a horse that got a mile and a half well the last time, so you would think and hope that he would probably get further in time," said the Ballydoyle handler. Asked whether Granddukeoftuscany would come under consideration for the St Leger, O'Brien said: "We take one race at a time, but it is a race that could suit him. It is a big step up from a maiden to a Group Two, so we'll see how he gets on and discuss plans after that. But obviously we would be hoping he might turn into that type of horse." O'Brien also runs Indian Maharaja, who won both his starts as a juvenile but was well beaten in a Guineas trial and has not been seen since suffering a slight setback. "Indian Maharaja is a horse that won two from two last year. First time out this year in bad ground in Leopardstown, he just pulled a muscle in his back, but he is back ready to run. He has only run at a mile, so this will be new territory for him," said O'Brien. Postponed won the Listed Glasgow Stakes when last seen for Luca Cumani. "The manner in which Postponed won at Hamilton was impressive but the Great Voltigeur field will be much more of a challenge," said the Newmarket handler. "He's been a bit of a playboy his whole life but he's starting to understand what is required of him and he appears more professional in his homework since his last run. Providing he gets good or better ground, we hope to see further improvement." Sir Michael Stoute's Snow Sky was fancied for the Derby in some quarters after winning the Lingfield Derby Trial, but he missed the Classic due to a last-minute setback. He was fourth in the King Edward VII at Ascot but regained the winning thread in a blanket finish to the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood, where he did well to win considering he had got very warm beforehand. Jockey James Doyle told At The Races: "I was pleased with him at Goodwood, I think people probably went over the top about him beforehand. He's a bit of a playboy. He just got a little bit hot (at Goodwood), but it was nothing to worry about. "I was pleased with him in the race. I probably got there a bit too soon on him and he idled a bit but he knuckled down and galloped to the line. He stays very well and I'm looking forward to it." ========================================= Connections of Taghrooda believe her tactical versatility will stand her in good stead as she aims to keep her unbeaten record intact in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks. John Gosden's Sea The Stars filly was a brilliant winner of the Investec Oaks at Epsom in June and justified the bold call made by her connections to let her take on the boys with a stunning display in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes. The three-year-old is a long odds-on favourite to secure a third successive Group One prize on the Knavesmire back against her own sex and Angus Gold, racing manager for owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, is confident she would be quite capable of making all the running if required. Gold said: "Taghrooda is in good form and everyone is very happy with her. As we have already seen, she has got a great temperament, she settles well and stays well and if it came down to it, Paul (Hanagan) could make the running himself. I don't think that it will be tactics that get her beat - she could do it from the front if necessary. "I don't think that the ground will be a problem on Thursday. Taghrooda does not want it rock hard but anything other than that will be fine for her." Having suffered a hairline fracture to his left arm in a fall at Glorious Goodwood at the end of July, Hanagan returned to action with a double at Pontefract on Sunday and Gold is delighted to have him on side at York this week. "Paul has played a huge part in the team over the past three years, he is a very hard-working chap, and it will be great to get him back aboard," said Gold. "I spoke to him on Sunday evening and he said that he was feeling great." Hanagan himself is unsurprisingly itching to get back in the saddle on the Knavesmire, a track where he performed superbly during his time as stable jockey to locally-based trainer Richard Fahey. "I've been looking forward to this for a long time," Hanagan told Racing UK. "York is one of the best (tracks), I had so much success there with Richard and to go with Taghrooda and show her off, it's like giving something back to the crowd who've been so good to me over the years. "You have to keep pinching yourself, how lucky I am to be associated with such a good filly. It's down to Sheikh Hamdan if she goes to the Arc but it would be great to see her go there. She's an unbeaten filly, she's won the Oaks, the King George and hopefully the Yorkshire Oaks, it would be great for the game. "I wouldn't be worried about any ground to be honest. At Breakfast With The Stars it was heavy and she glided through it, I wouldn't be worried about anything." The Luca Cumani-trained Volume was a little under four lengths behind Taghrooda at Epsom and arguably performed even better when finishing a close third in the Irish Oaks having attempted to make all the running. Cumani said: "Volume has to take on Taghrooda again but she's a tough, consistent filly and she deserves to run in all the big mile-and-a-half fillies' races." ========================================= Telescope drops in distance as he attempts to strike at the top level for the first time in the Juddmonte International at York on Wednesday. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old was one place ahead of the reopposing Mukhadram when runner-up in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, having previously come of age with a brilliant victory in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot. Harry Herbert, racing manager for owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, said: "I think Ryan (Moore) felt that he (Telescope) just possibly wasn't quite as good (in the King George) as he'd been at Royal Ascot - as far as the feel that he gave Ryan. It was a muggy day and he just got a little warm beforehand. I don't know whether that affected him but it's interesting to hear what a jockey says." Herbert continued: " Potentially I think we all think there could be more to come from the horse, but that was still a wonderful performance. Now that he is fully fit and on the right ground we are seeing the real Telescope, which is exciting. "It's hugely exciting for everyone involved. We just hope and pray he can win a Group One before the season is out. If he happened to win the International, we might say the Irish Champion and you wouldn't rule out the Arc." The Grey Gatsby won the Dante Stakes over the International course and distance before claiming the French Derby for trainer Kevin Ryan. He failed to fire in last month's Grand Prix de Paris but is expected to bounce back on the sounder surface he is set to encounter at York. Ryan said: "He has been great since his Longchamp run and is very fresh and well. The ground in France was bottomless, which he hated, though he still ran a good race. He won his maiden at York, he was second in the Acomb at York and he won the Dante at York so the Knavesmire will be no problem for him. "He's proven at this mile and a quarter, although at some point I envisage stepping him back up to a mile and a half. He's only a three-year-old and is developing all the time. It's going to be a fantastic race, although I have to say that all Group One races are great races. We will try to treat it as just another day." Ryan Moore has ridden The Grey Gatsby on his last three starts but as he is committed to riding Telescope, champion jockey Richard Hughes has been given the call-up by Ryan. He said: "It's lovely to get a good ride like that. He acts on the track, Kevin's horses are running well. I'm delighted. You couldn't underestimate him. The last day he was definitely bogged down - he's such a good moving horse. York will suit and hopefully the ground will be good." Peter Chapple-Hyam's Arod has ground to make up on hot favourite Australia having finished fourth in the Epsom Derby, but he is also expected to be more effective over this shorter trip. H e was last seen gaining a confidence-boosting win in a Leicester conditions race little over a month ago. Chapple-Hyam said: "He seems to be in very good form, he's had no problems whatsoever since his win at Leicester. He had a very hard race in the Derby - because he didn't stay he had a harder race than normal. But he is back at the right trip now, whether he is good enough we will just have to wait and see. "I took him to Leicester as I wanted to give him a bit of confidence and it worked out well. He's getting stronger all the time and thickening out. I just don't want any rain for him. He's such a good mover that the ground couldn't be quick enough for him - he's not the same horse on soft." ============================================ Australia tries what connections feel could be his ideal distance of a mile and a quarter for the first time in the Juddmonte International at York on Wednesday. A son of Galileo out of the brilliant race mare Ouija Board, Australia has shown he can mix it at the top level over a mile and a mile and a half so far this season. His close-up third behind Night Of Thunder and the brilliant Kingman in the 2000 Guineas reads well given a mile was always likely to be on the sharp side for him and he did what he was bred to do by winning the Epsom Derby before a similarly dominant display in the Irish equivalent. Trainer Aidan O'Brien pitches his stable star into all-aged company for the first time on the Knavesmire and is keeping his fingers crossed he is fit enough having been off the track since the end of June. O'Brien said: "Australia had a break after the Curragh and everything has gone well with him since then. Obviously, he is a good bit heavier than he was in the Derbys and I suppose that just makes you a little bit more anxious. So, really, he is just ready to go away and obviously we would imagine that he would come on a lot from the run. "We always felt this was his trip. He is a very strong traveller - he has a high cruising pace." Australia is joined in the six-strong field by fellow Ballydoyle runner Kingfisher, who has made the pace for his esteemed stable companion at both Epsom and the Curragh, even managing to keep going for second in the Irish Derby. "Kingfisher is in good form. He will be very happy to roll along if nothing else does. He ran in the two Derbys with him (Australia) and is a very tough, sound and genuine horse that doesn't mind bowling along," said O'Brien. "He is obviously running on his merits - he is a Dee Stakes winner, so he is a very legitimate horse. But like I said, he doesn't mind bowling along - he'd be very happy just to roll along, nice and sensible. And I think that will be good for everybody if that is the case. Maybe somebody else will be happy to do it. But he is happy to do it if nobody is. It will just be, hopefully, a nicely-run race." Mukhadram ran an excellent race in defeat when third in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes and trainer William Haggas believes his stable star has perhaps not received the recognition he deserves. He said: "Mukhadram ran a great race at Ascot. He is a tough, genuine horse and I think is he is a little underrated. We hope it doesn't get soft but he's in great form and goes there in great shape. I feel it's my job to get him there in the best condition I can and I am very happy with him." Mukhadram carries the colours of owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum and his racing manager, Angus Gold, believes the five-year-old is perhaps better suited by the mile and a quarter he faces, rather than the mile and a half he raced over at Ascot. "William is thrilled with him. He's a fabulous horse to have because he's so consistent. He's tough and genuine and loves his racing. Physically he was always going to make a better older horse and on his pedigree as well he was always going to get better. That's exactly what he's done," Gold told At The Races. "Mentally he's very good. He's very professional about it. He enjoys his work. Hopefully he'll give a very good account of himself. Dane (O'Neill) said he thought it (mile and a half) stretched him. On pedigree he should have stayed, but you never really know until you try and he's a horse who travels very strongly and has a kick. Maybe a mile and a half just stretches him that little bit." Asked about plans for the rest of the year, Gold said: "Sheikh Hamdan has said let's deal with York first, see how he runs there and then make a plan. The Champion Stakes would be a fabulous race to win if he was good enough for that, but he's got options like the Cox Plate or if he wanted to try the Breeders' Cup, so we'll see." Sheikh Hamdan's retained rider Paul Hanagan gets back aboard Mukhadram at York having sided with Taghrooda in the King George, a decision which proved correct as the Epsom Oaks heroine secured a brilliant victory. "It was very hard to get off him as he'd given me a great day in the Eclipse, probably the hardest decision I'd ever had to make, but I'm lucky to have to make decisions like that," Hanagan told Racing UK. "It was probably only a Classic winner that I could get off him for. I'd finished second in the Dubai World Cup on him and I was so proud of him in the King George and Dane gave him a peach of a ride. "He'll appreciate coming back in trip. The Eclipse was a great moment, I was so pleased for the horse and William as he's not been the easiest to train. I'm really looking forward to him, he's got course and distance form and it's his track, a big, long galloping straight."

3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20 is where the likely pace will come from in the opener at York. Bundles of it. It can pay to race prominently over this trip here on decent ground though and such numbers can't be ruled out. It's right across the track but the last couple of times Magical Macey has run here has seen the winner come from near him…which says low. Either way I want to have a go at Secret Witness at a far too big 33/1 who scored his last success, over two years ago, here over 6 and will want this strongly run. He goes well after a recent run and I fancy his outing 4 days ago was very much a prep for this. He's 2lb below that last win and, placed here a few times over 5, the extra 89 yards is a gift. I think See The Sun will go very close and Bogart has to be of interest but at the prices it's worth having a nibble at Free Zone who is back off a winning mark and in good hands. Placed in Listed company over 6 on his sole start here, he has pace to chase near side and is a nice price at 25/1. York 13.55 - Secret Witness 1pt e/w York 13.55 - Free Zone 0.5pt e/w
The Great Voltigeur is a super renewal and Granddukeoftuscany catches my eye at the top of the card. He's not a bad price at 7's either, nor Snow Sky at 8/1. That is due to a likeable favourite in Kingston Hill but the drying ground must be a bit of a worry. Either way, it's a play at a big price or leave alone race and I'm surprised Observational is as big as 25/1 given he was a well supported favourite last time at Goodwood where he found the ground too quick. There should be a bit of pace here and that will suit, as long as the ground doesn't dry out too much. He may just have needed it last time too after a bit of an absence, and he was keen. I fancy we'll see a better run today. York 15.05 - Observational 1pt e/w
I've got Totalize wrong on many occasions across both codes and today may be no different. However, there's plenty in his favour after a creditable effort in the Northumberland Plate. The ground would have been quick enough that day but the hood is back on and he got every bit of the 2 miles. The trouble was keenness last time in the absence of that hood but he should settle better today and Megan Carberry is back on claiming her 7lb. He bolted up here over 14 furlongs on the run before and is overpriced off 9lb higher at 16/1. Saptapadi is a serial underachiever but is tempting whilst Spacious Sky will likely go close, albeit at a short enough 6/1. York 16.20 - Totalize 1pt e/w

THE traditional practice of work-watching on Newmarket Heath is under threat following a new clampdown by Jockey Club Estates which will result in many visitors having to pay to access the gallops.
Work-watching has been part of the fabric of Newmarket for almost 400 years, but fears about insurance have prompted the Jockey Club to draw up plans to keep all but essential personnel off the training grounds until the afternoons.
Currently, the public have free access to the heath after 1pm but have to gain permission before that time. In future, only those people inv olved with a particular trainer will be allowed on to the gallops in the morning or else they will have to be part of an organised trip, for which there will be a charge.
Training grounds manager Nick Patton said: “There is no public access to the heath before 1pm and, by rights, the workwatchers shouldn’t be out here as they aren’t insured. In future, visitors in the mornings will have to be part of an organised trip unless they are the guest of a particular trainer.
“The organised parties will have to pay a charge but the fee has yet to be determined.” =======================================

Man On The Spot's new daily Yankee incorporates the Naps from York, Lingfield, Musselburgh and Kempton. Richard Hughes: Rides Growl at York 14:30 York - Tattersalls Acomb Stakes (Group 3) Treaty Of Paris was an 11/1 chance when landing this 12 months ago but it's normally a race for fancied runners. Basateen looks likely to start favourite this year having won by eight lengths at Doncaster following a debut third at Newmarket but GROWL (NAP) looked one to follow when making a winning start at Ascot. He was easy to back on that occasion as he looked as though the run would do him good but quickened impressively to score and the third has franked the form since. Misleading also won on debut, at Goodwood, but that form has still to be advertised and more interesting is the progressive Prince Gagarin. Jamaica represents Ballydoyle and has the usual clutch of big-race entries. He easily justified favouritism at Galway but may already be looking for a longer distance. Dutch Connection looks the pick of the remainder. 15:20 Musselburgh - CMYK Digital Solutions Handicap Seven of the 11 entries have won over the course and distance but it's one of those who hasn't, MASTER BOND (NAP), that gets the vote. David O'Meara's charge is on a hat-trick and, with just a 4lb rise for his latest success and his young rider using his claim, can continue in a winning vein. Noodles Blue Boy has a 6lb penalty for last week's Beverley victory but the 11 times winner can never be discounted while Space Artist has a very good strike-rate of 5-16 and arrives in winning form. Singeur hasn't won for two years but has dropped to his lowest mark for a very long time and could go well at a fair price. 16:40 Lingfield - All New 32RedSport.com Handicap Novel Dancer has already won three times on Polytrack this year but has looked in the handicapper's grip lately. Black Iceman has only won at Wolverhampton so far and was beaten five lengths when second here last time while Lord Of The Storm hasn't raced over this longer trip since 2011 but veteran Rajeh is respected as he's a pound lower than when only beaten a length-and-a-half over course and distance eight days ago. ROCK OF LEON (NAP) has been placed in his last three starts and was beaten less than a length over 1m5f here two runs ago, He may be ready to open his account now. 19:50 Kempton - BetBright Mobile Handicap SI SENOR (NAP) was having his first start since May when easily landing a handicap here a couple of weeks ago. The assessor has hit him with a 10lb rise but he looks better than a 79-rated performer and can follow up. Weekendatbernies was making his handicap debut and having just his fourth start when scoring at Epsom so with just a 4lb rise to contend with he has to be on the short-list. Eye Contact looked a likely future winner when narrowly beaten over this trip at Nottingham and started odds-on in a four-runner race at Bath but found the 1m2f trip too far and finished last. Art Official completed a double at this time last season but has been struggling at the weights while Voyageofdiscovery was strongly fancied for a better race than this at Sandown though failed to fire

Brooch ably justified odds-on favouritism in the Vincent O'Brien Ruby Stakes at Killarney to extend her unbeaten record to two races. Dermot Weld's filly won by nine and a half lengths on her debut at the Galway Festival in July and took the next step along the ladder in this Listed race over eight and a half furlongs. It was harder work this time, but Pat Smullen's partner (8-11 favourite) got the job done quite tidily in the end. The daughter of Empire Maker, owned by Khalid Abdullah, was buried in mid-division for a long way as Dark Skies and Colour Blue cut out the early running. Colour Blue gamely stayed in contention, and was still in front passing the furlong marker when runner-up Akira also joined the party. But Brooch was bustled on the outside of that duo by a composed Smullen to pounce by a length. Kris Weld, the victorious trainer's son and assistant, said: "That was very pleasing. It was a big skip from winning a pretty average maiden to this. "She's a big, fine filly and is only starting to fill out. "She'll make a nice four-year-old, so we'll speak to Lord (Teddy) Grimthorpe (owner's racing manager) to see if she runs again this season." ========================== Gordon Lord Byron will make his return to action in Saturday's Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh after connections decided against a trip to York. The multiple Group One-winning sprinter has been off the track since suffering a back injury when finishing eighth in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, but is ready for a return to competitive action. Trainer Tom Hogan is keen to give his charge a spin before he defends his crown in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on September 6 and feels it will be more beneficial for him to stay at home than run in Friday's City of York Stakes. Hogan said: "He needs to have a prep run before he goes back to Haydock and it was a straight choice between York and the Curragh. "We just felt to go over to York with him, come back and then go back to Haydock in a fortnight's time might be a little bit over-strenuous, so we'll go the Curragh with him on Saturday and see what happens. "He seems well, but he'll definitely improve for the run." Gordon Lord Byron is one of 37 remaining entries for the Haydock Group One after the latest acceptance stage. All the usual suspects are there, including Sole Power and Slade Power for Eddie Lynam, Aljamaaheer, Maarek, Hot Streak, Pearl Secret and Richard Fahey's Wokingham winner Baccarat. There is a strong contingent of three-year-olds, with Mick Appleby's improving Danzeno and the only three-year-old filly Lucky Kristale catching the eye. ================================= Sole Power is among a field of 15 for Friday's Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York as he attempts to repeat his 2010 victory in the Group One dash. Eddie Lynam's stalwart was sent off at 100-1 on that occasion but he has subsequently proved himself time and again to be one of the best sprinters in the world, most recently when winning the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. However, with a mixed forecast for the rest of the week, Lynam will be hoping York misses the worst of the weather after testing ground prevented Sole Power from lining up in the July Cup. Take Cover has emerged as one of the leading sprinters this season, and wasn't beaten far by Sole Power at Ascot before following up with wins at York and Gooodwood. Moviesta, well fancied for this race 12 months ago when he picked up an injury, bounced back to form at Goodwood when beaten in a photo by Take Cover. One horse who would be suited by rain is David Barron's Pearl Secret while, in the same Qatar Racing ownership, the three-year-old Hot Streak is looking to get back to his best for Kevin Ryan. Ryan also runs Astaire, while Extortionist is in the mix for Olly Stevens and Shea Shea is back for another go after finishing second 12 months ago to Jwala. The lightly-raced Cougar Mountain runs for Aidan O'Brien having finished fifth on just his second start in the July Cup. Stepper Point, G Force and Steps are involved, with the sole French challenger Henri-Alex Pantall's Rangali. Robin Bastiman's Borderlescott, twice a winner of this race, runs in it again as a 12-year-old, while Monsieur Joe represents local trainer Phil Kirby. Music Master was due to take his chance but was scoped on Tuesday and trainer Henry Candy was not happy with the results. He will now look towards Haydock, while stablemate Limato, a strong fancy for the Gimcrack, will head for Doncaster's St Leger meeting. "They're not bad at all, they'll be on a five-day course of antibiotics and then we can get back on the road with them. That's racing I'm afraid, these things happen," said Candy. "We might see if Limato can stay another half a furlong in the sales race (Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes) at Doncaster while the other horse will probably go to Haydock for the Betfred Sprint Cup." =================================== Pat Smullen would not swap his mount Anthem Alexander for any other filly in Thursday's Pinsent Masons Lowther Stakes at York. Smullen has been excited about the Eddie Lynam-trained filly from the very first day he sat on her and despite her debut defeat on soft ground, she lived up to early expectations by winning the Queen Mary over five furlongs at Royal Ascot. That victory means she must carry a 3lb penalty against the likes of Tiggy Wiggy, who was just a neck behind at Ascot, and Albany Stakes heroine Cursory Glance, but Smullen is oozing confidence as Anthem Alexander steps back up to six furlongs this time. "I'm really looking forward to the race. She's excited me since the first day I sat on her," said Smullen. "I can't see the extra furlong being an issue, she battled all the way to the line at Ascot and she was going on again. It's a very good renewal and she's got to give 3lb to everything, so we'll find out how good she really is. "I rode her at home about seven to 10 days ago and I couldn't have been more pleased with her. I certainly wouldn't swap her, put it that way." Richard Hannon's Tiggy Wiggy defied top weight when running out a six-length winner of the Super Sprint at Newbury on her most recent outing. She steps up to six furlongs for the first time and while Hannon admits it is an unknown, he thinks her relaxed style of racing gives her every chance of staying the trip. "On official ratings, Tiggy Wiggy is better than Ivawood taking into account the sex allowance and as she receives 3lb from Anthem Alexander, who beat her in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, I suppose she is entitled to be favourite," Hannon told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. "Obviously, the six is the question mark, but she looked as if she wanted the longer distance when outpaced at halfway at Royal Ascot, and she also stayed the stiff five well enough when bolting up in the National Stakes at Sandown. "This has been the target since she blitzed her rivals in the Super Sprint at Newbury last time and, though she has electric early pace, she definitely settles better than she did earlier in the season, so she gives herself every chance of staying the six." Roger Varian is looking forward to getting Cursory Glance back in action. Ultra-impressive in winning the Albany by two lengths from American raider Sunset Glow, she is the only unbeaten filly in the Group Two. The form of the Albany has held up well, with the runner-up landing a Grade Two at Del Mar, while fifth-placed Osaila has won twice since, most recently claiming the Princess Margaret Stakes. This has been on Cursory Glance's agenda since the Royal meeting and although Varian admits he would not want the ground to turn very soft, there appears to be little chance of that happening. "There's a bit of rain around and it just depends how much falls, she just wants really nice ground, nothing towards either extreme. It's very localised so they may miss it all," said Varian. "She's in great form and looks fantastic. Obviously, this looks a very good race, a fantastic renewal and I'd have big respect for a few runners. The Albany form is holding up well, though, and that looks a strong race so I'm looking forward to seeing her in action once more." Brian Meehan believes Sulaalaat deserves her place in the field after opening her account at the second time of asking at Nottingham by four lengths. "She has always been highly regarded and followed a close second on her debut with a very easy win at Nottingham three weeks ago," Meehan told www.brianmeehan.com. "This is a big step up from a maiden, but she has shown both with the manner of that success and in her homework that she is a very talented filly with a very good turn of foot and she deserves to try her luck at this level." ======================================= Taghrooda could earn a tilt at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe if she can clinch a third Group One of a glorious summer in Thursday's Darley Yorkshire Oaks. John Gosden's Sea The Stars filly put up a brilliant display in the Investec Oaks at Epsom in June and was all set to run in the Irish equivalent. However, owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum had a late change of heart and made the bold call to pitch her in against the boys and her elders in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. It was a move which paid off as she kept intact her unbeaten record in scintillating fashion. Taghrooda is, unsurprisingly, a warm order at York to take her career record to five wins from five starts, with her trainer already eyeing a trip to Paris in October. Gosden said: "She took the King George very well. The Yorkshire Oaks was always the plan for her. After her win in the Oaks it was a race we had in our mind. There was a slight change of plan in the middle when we changed from Ireland to Ascot but she has handled it all very well. "In terms of herself, I am very happy with her. It should be good racing ground and we are looking forward to it. "If she runs a nice race at York we'll aim for the Arc and I think we would go straight there rather than taking in a race such as the (Prix) Vermeille, which would mean travelling to France twice in three weeks." Even Gosden admits he was blown away by the ease of her victory in the King George. The Clarehaven handler said: "I was surprised that she came to those good older horses under a hand ride. To come to horses that had just won a Hardwicke (Telescope) and an Eclipse (Mukhadram) in the manner that she did was what surprised me. "I knew she was a nice filly but that was impressive." Volume was a little under four lengths behind Taghrooda at Epsom and arguably performed even better when finishing a close third in the Irish Oaks, having attempted to make all of the running. Trainer Luca Cumani said: "Volume has to take on Taghrooda again but she's a tough, consistent filly and she deserves to run in all the big mile-and-a-half fillies' races." Aidan O'Brien is double-handed with Venus De Milo and Tapestry. The former found only The Fugue too strong in last year's renewal and is fitted with a hood for the first time in the hands of the trainer's son, Joseph. Tapestry, the mount of Ryan Moore, was last seen finishing a close second behind stable companion Bracelet in the Irish Oaks. ======================================= Blaine provided trainer Kevin Ryan with back-to-back victories in the Symphony Group Stakes at York. Twelve months ago the North Yorkshire handler took the spoils with Bogart, who was in the race again and was prominent for much of the race before just being run out of the places. Move In Time looked to have done everything right under Danny Tudhope and shot clear with a furlong to run, though B Fifty Two was still boxing away on the opposite side of the track. But Amy Ryan got Blaine rolling down the centre and the 12-1 chance prevailed by a short head, with B Fifty Two another neck away in third. The successful trainer reserved special praise for his daughter Amy, after the rider suffered a season-ending fall at York last July. Ryan said: "I'm delighted for Amy. It's been a long road back since her injury and she's proven she can still do it on the big stage." Of Blaine, he said: "He was a real good two-year-old but then struggled last year. It's great for the owners as they had to be really patient and I told them he would come back, they never lose their ability." The jockey said: "He was dossing in front over six (furlongs) so I dropped him in today. Days like this pay off. It means a lot. I've been struggling for rides and that's only my third winner since January this year. "I think a lot of people thought I wouldn't come back. My dad's not too keen, and I did think about it, but it's my passion. It's my job, it's what I do. I'm still not great. I need surgery on my ankle and it doesn't take much to get it stiff and sore, so I'm just riding bits and pieces and staying safe." Edge Of Sanity caused a 25-1 upset in the Fine Equinity Stakes for trainer Brian Ellison and jockey Paul Mulrennan. Ellison had five runners in the extended two-mile contest but it was his least fancied contender who prevailed in a driving finish. Quest For More looked like getting on top for a few strides and then 9-2 favourite Spacious Sky emerged from the pack. Yet despite his big weight, Edge Of Sanity battled on bravely to beat Quest For More by half a length. Ellison said: "It hasn't surprised me as I knew he'd like the ground, but I was a bit worried about it for some of the others. At Ascot nothing went right but we knew to ride him handier. He'll go for the Cesarewitch now, Paul said it took a mile to pull him up." ==================================== Dutch Connection caused a minor surprise in the Group Three Tattersalls Acomb Stakes at York. The likes of Basateen, Jamaica and Growl all turned up on the Knavesmire with big reputations, but it was Charlie Hills' youngster who came out on top. For most of the last furlong there appeared to be an even bigger shock on the cards after Karl Burke's Toocoolforschool shook off Basateen, but William Buick played his hand last of all aboard the winner. The judge called a photo-finish but Dutch Connection (16-1) beat the 33-1 chance by a head, with 6-4 favourite Basateen third. Buick said: "It was a good race, a step up from anything he's done in the past. He tries very hard and he's uncomplicated, which is a great attribute for a two-year-old." Hills said: "He has been improving mentally all year. He's such an honest horse. He really ground it out. We won't be rushing him out on to the track too soon, we'll probably give him one more run." Hills will now consider sending Dutch Connection to France or Newmarket, and said: "He's still a big frame of a horse and he'll get a mile, but I don't think I want to be doing that yet. He's in the Jean-Luc Lagardere and the Dewhurst, it'll be that sort of thing." Burke said of the runner-up: "We thought a lot of him, that's why we came here. I did think he was better than the handicapper said, but he has still exceeded my expectations there. He's quite gawky, and perhaps he was just in front 100 yards too soon but he has run a great race and we know he belongs in this company now." Burke was narrowly denied in the Acomb with Toocoolforschool, but Felix Leiter (3-1 favourite) made no mistake in the StanJames.com Stakes to bring up a hat-trick. Under pressure fairly early, the in-form juvenile just held off the late thrust of Kibaar by a head under Ben Curtis. Burke said: "He's so tough. He's had three or four quick runs so we might give him an easy couple of weeks and think of a Listed race for him." ========================================= Derby runner-up Kingston Hill is likely to run in the Ladbrokes St Leger without the aid of another run after his late withdrawal from the Neptune Investment Management Great Voltigeur Stakes at York. Roger Varian left the decision as late as possible but after walking the course with owner Paul Smith, connections took the tough decision to pull their horse out. He will now head for the Doncaster Classic on September 13 without a run since he finished fourth in the Eclipse at Sandown on July 5 "I walked the course before racing and my gut feeling was it was too quick," said Varian. "It's been an agonising decision. We were very keen to run and it's not ideal to make a decision like this so late. "It's very likely we'll go straight to the Leger now. "It would have been lovely to get that run into him but that's not going to happen. "It's very frustrating, but going off feedback of the lads who rode him and how he ran in the Derby you'd have to be hopeful he'll stay (the Leger trip)." ======================================== Postponed ran out an impressive winner of the Neptune Investment Management Great Voltigeur Stakes at York in the late absence of Derby runner-up Kingston Hill. Ridden confidently by Andrea Atzeni, the 5-2 favourite took up the running from the free-going Odeon with two furlongs to run. Snow Sky had tracked Postponed along the straight and while Sir Michael Stoute's inmate beat the rest easily, he was two and a quarter lengths behind the winner. Odeon stuck on for third at 40-1 for James Given. Postponed would need to be supplemented for the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster in September, but Cumani is cool on the idea of stepping him up to a mile and three-quarters. He said: "I don't think he'll go to the Leger, I see him as a true mile-and-a-half horse. He travels well and quickens well, just like a mile-and-a-half horse, but obviously the owner will decide. He was good, but we've always thought he was. We just probably wasted too much time over shorter trips in the spring. "I was thinking what there is left, and there isn't much, especially as he needs fast ground, so we will have to think long and hard about what we do with him." Atzeni is confident there is more to come from Postponed, saying: "We always thought a lot of him. Mr Cumani always liked him. He's a good horse, an improving horse, a typical Dubawi. "They went a nice gallop and that suited him nicely. The ground is very important to him - he likes fast ground. He's going the right way, which is the main thing." Cumani mentioned races like the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and Breeders' Cup Turf as possible targets for Postponed next season. He said: "He's not a Leger horse. I don't want him to go further than this as I think he's a top-class mile-and-a-half horse." Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for owner Khalid Abdullah, said of Snow Sky: "We're very pleased with that, he was coming back at the winner at the end, and I think we'll look to Town Moor (Doncaster)." James Given is also looking at the Classic for Odeon. The Lincolnshire handler said: "He will get better in time but at the moment it is like training a firework with the touchpaper already lit. It took two good horses to go past him and I thought it was a great run. We have to go to the Leger now." ======================================== A reputation can be made easily, but real achievements have to be earned on the track. At York on Wednesday, Australia proved his merit as a Coolmore champion in definitive fashion by winning the Juddmonte International Stakes. While hardly short on accolades, and with the English and Irish Derby already under his belt, the chestnut has still been burdened with the mantle of trainer Aidan O'Brien's "best ever" Flat horse since the latter part of his two-year-old days. Dropping back to a mile and a quarter, Australia not only brushed aside the French Derby winner The Grey Gatsby by two lengths, but left experienced Group One-class elders Telescope and Mukhadram treading water on the exacting plain of the Knavesmire. While Joseph O'Brien starved to his absolute minimum weight of 8st 12lb, it must concern connections of other leading protagonists that the jockey's father reported Australia to have been eating rather more substantially and had ballooned to as much as 20 kilograms heavier than he was at Epsom. Sent off the 8-13 favourite, O'Brien tried to keep a lid on his mount at the rear of the field as stablemate Kingfisher pulled the sextet along until Mukhadram tried his usual trick of staking his claim early and hit the front with three furlongs left. It became starkly obvious Australia was going to enter calculations when he began making progress on the wide outside but it was still quite surprising how easily he made it as he powered away inside the final furlong. "He was ready for a racecourse gallop, that was where he was at. His weight rose alarmingly in the last three weeks but the lads at home were very happy. He was a lot of kilos up on his Derby run - he was 15-20 kilos heavier - and that's a lot of weight. But Joseph said that leaving the paddock in the Derby he felt like he was a two- or three-year-old, but today leaving he felt like a five-year-old," said O'Brien snr. "There's such prize-money here and it's such a prestigious race that it's very hard to gallop him at a racecourse rather than bring him here." O'Brien leaves decisions on planning to owners Coolmore, but said: "We had in our head to come here and then Leopardstown (Irish Champion Stakes, September 13) if everything went well." As Australia is so regally bred, by Derby winner Galileo out of Oaks heroine Ouija Board, he is a priceless asset to the Coolmore breeding operation. There would be a huge demand to see him back against Kingman in the QEII at Ascot (Racebets offer 13-8 against 4-9 Kingman) but he could head in a slightly different direction. Owner Michael Tabor said: "You go for a Derby because there's nothing like a Derby, but the truth of the matter is taking him to a mile and a quarter shows the speed he's got, and Joseph said you take him back to a mile and it would be perfect for him. You'd have to say he has to be up there with the very best. In a perfect world he'll go for (Leopardstown) and maybe the English Champion. Maybe one more after that, I don't think so, but we'll play out one race at a time." O'Brien also took time to praise his son, saying: "I can't tell you the massive part Joseph plays. He can do 8st 12lb but we don't like him doing it. We're quite happy for him to put overweight up when he does. In the big days we want Joseph to be on and this is one of them." The man himself said: "He was a bit fresh, his first run back after a while, but it was never really in doubt." Kevin Ryan was thrilled with The Grey Gatsby, and said: "You don't burden a champion jockey with instructions, and I knew Richard Hughes would have a plan. He gave him a fabulous ride. We've no excuses, the winner is a fabulous horse. The way he's finished it looks like he'll get a mile and a half, which opens up plenty of options. Hopefully he'll stay in training next year." Telescope held on for third, and Harry Herbert, of owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, said: "He needs a mile and a half, it's as simple as that. He's run very well over a mile and a quarter behind two Derby winners. It's up to Sir Michael (Stoute) but I would have thought the Breeders' Cup would be the main objective now."

Betfair Ambassador Ryan Moore talks exclusively about his six rides on day two of the York Ebor meeting as well as discussing the main opposition in each of the races...
13:55 York - Tachophobia
I have picked up the ride on Richard's Tachophobia but it is fair to say that he will need to improve a stone or more on his Catterick win or his run behind Tiggy Wiggy at Newbury last time to even get competitive here. On all known form you would have to think that Kool Kompany is a very deserving favourite, even with his 7lb penalty. He clearly has the best form and seems to be taking his racing very well. Molecomb runner-up Fast Act could give him most to do to, though this is his first attempt at 6f.
14:30 York - Patience Alexander
She was never going at any stage at Haydock last time - I rode the third in the race in which she finished last of four - and I don't know what went wrong there. Maybe it was carrying the big weight in a nursery. But she is clearly much better than that, as her earlier ½ length defeat of Tiggy Wiggy in a listed race over 5f here showed, as did her third to Cursory Glance in the Albany Stakes.
But this is a red-hot Lowther and I can only really give her a place chance at best, even if she does return to top form, as some of the fillies in here would not look out of place getting a very generous weight allowance in the Nunthorpe.
Anthem Alexander probably won a bit more comfortably than the neck winning margin from Tiggy Wiggy suggested in the Queen Mary - she travelled like much the best horse in that race - but she has to stretch out to 6f now, and the same applies to Tiggy Wiggy, who showed blistering speed to win at Newbury last time and would appear to be the clear form choice here on that run. Keep an eye on the weather for them though, as the Irish filly would want it fast, and the Hannon horse wouldn't mind any rain.
But the one I would slightly favour over them both is proven stayer Cursory Glance, even if 7f could be more her trip and the possibility that she could get done for speed here. She looked a really good filly when winning the Albany, and could just edge the best recent renewal of this race that I can recall.
15:05 York - Russian Realm
Won well in the soft at Goodwood in May but his last two runs appear to have confirmed what I suspected after the 8lb hike in the weights after that win. Namely, that the handicapper has got hold of him, and doesn't seem to be letting go in a hurry. He has run two perfectly respectable races at Ascot and Sandown since, but he was pretty soundly beaten on both occasions and hasn't even been dropped 1lb. I hope that I am wrong about his chance - and he has only had just the nine starts after all, so improvement is possible - but I suspect that he has place chances at best in such a competitive race.
15:40 York - Tapestry
You don't need me to tell you that we are probably all playing for places if Taghrooda turns up in the same form as she was in the King George. She looks an exceptional filly. But if she does run below par - and I remember Sariska getting chinned at heavy odds-on in this race a few years back - then I could be the most likely beneficiary on Tapestry.
I think that it is fair to rate her an unlucky loser in the Irish Oaks last time, as her saddle slipped after she stumbled coming out of the stalls at the Curragh, and she did very well to only be beaten a neck by Bracelet, with Volume a similar distance away in third. And she has the potential to take a big step forward here formwise. But, in truth, you can give most of these some sort of chance if Taghrooda does run a stone below form.
16:20 York - Waila
I think it is fair to say that Waila has been called a few names by people this season, often finding less than expected close home in narrow defeats, most recently in the Lillie Langtry last time. And she clearly isn't straightforward. But it could well be that the hood that she has been wearing has had a role to play in that seeming reluctance to get the job done. The hood does help to settle horses but it can often take something away from them in awareness terms at the end of races. So not wearing the hood today - she has worn it all season - could be in her favour. It's a competitive race, with a few possible winners, but my filly isn't far off on official ratings and I give her a fair chance.
16:55 York - Dutch Courage
I was quite taken by this filly when I rode her to win a Newmarket nursery last July, and thought she would do better than she has done so far this season. But she has run one or two good races, notably when fourth over 1m here in May, and the handicapper has given her a chance by dropping her 2lb. Could run well in what is obviously a very competitive handicap.

Sole Power is among a field of 15 for Friday's Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York as he attempts to repeat his 2010 victory in the Group One sprint. Sole Power: Lines up in the Nunthorpe again. Eddie Lynam's stalwart was sent off at 100/1 on that occasion but he has subsequently proved himself time and again to be one of the best sprinters in the world, most recently when winning the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. However, with a mixed forecast for the rest of the week, Lynam will be hoping York misses the worst of the weather after testing ground prevented Sole Power from lining up in the July Cup. Take Cover has emerged as one of the leading sprinters this season having not been beaten far by Sole Power at Ascot before following up with wins at York and Gooodwood and he steps back up in class. Moviesta, well fancied for this race 12 months ago when he picked up an injury, bounced back to form at Goodwood when beaten in a photo by Take Cover. One horse who would be suited by rain is David Barron's Pearl Secret while in the same Qatar Racing ownership, the three-year-old Hot Streak is looking to get back to his best for Kevin Ryan. Ryan also runs Astaire while Extortionist is in the mix for Olly Stevens and Shea Shea is back for another go after finishing second 12 months ago to Jwala. The lightly-raced Cougar Mountain runs for Aidan O'Brien having finished fifth on just his second start in the July Cup. Stepper Point, G Force and Steps are involved while the sole French challenger is Henri-Alex Pantall's Rangali. Robin Bastiman's Borderlescott, twice a winner of this race, runs in it again as a 12-year-old while Monsieur Joe represents local trainer Paul Midgley. The only two horses not declared were Lynam's Anthem Alexander who runs in the Lowther Stakes and Henry Candy's Music Master. Music Master was scoped on Monday and Candy, not happy with those results, will now look towards Haydock, while stablemate Limato, a strong fancy for the Gimcrack, will now instead head for Doncaster's St Leger meeting. "They're not bad at all, they'll be on a five-day course of antibiotics and then we can get back on the road with them," said Candy. "That's racing I'm afraid, these things happen. "We might see if Limato can stay another half a furlong in the sales race (Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes) at Doncaster while the other horse will probably go to Haydock for the Betfred Sprint Cup."

he Queen's Gold Cup heroine Estimate is set to face seven rivals when she bids to get her season back on track in the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Lonsdale Cup at York on Friday. Estimate: Heads the Lonsdale line-up. Sir Michael Stoute's mare became the first horse owned by a reigning monarch to win the two-and-a-half-mile Royal Ascot feature amid thrilling scenes last summer and was only narrowly denied by Leading Light when defending her crown in June. However, she has subsequently disappointed in the Goodwood Cup and has something to prove as she lines up on the Knavesmire. Estimate's task is far from straightforward with revitalised Goodwood Cup winner Cavalryman in opposition again. Dermot Weld's course winner Pale Mimosa is another fascinating contender and is joined on the trip from Ireland by the Mick Halford-trained Certerach. Angel Gabrial, Forgotten Voice, High Jinx and Times Up complete the two-mile Group Two.

View from connections ahead of the Pinsent Masons Lowther Stakes at York on Thursday. Cursory Glance (far right) wins at Royal Ascot. Roger Varian is looking forward to getting his Royal Ascot winner Cursory Glance back in action in the Pinsent Masons Lowther Stakes at York. Ultra-impressive in winning the Albany Stakes by two lengths from American raider Sunset Glow, she is the only unbeaten filly in the Group Two. The form of the Albany has held up well, with the runner up landing a Grade Two at Del Mar while fifth-placed Osaila has won twice since, most recently claiming the Princess Margaret Stakes. This contest has been on her agenda since the Royal meeting and although Varian admits he would not want the ground to turn very soft, there appears to be little chance of that happening. "There's a bit of rain around and it just depends how much falls, she just wants really nice ground, nothing towards either extreme. It's very localised so they may miss it all," said Varian. "She's in great form and looks fantastic. "Obviously, this looks a very good race, a fantastic renewal and I'd have big respect for a few runners. "The Albany form is holding up well, though, and that looks a strong race so I'm looking forward to seeing her in action once more." Richard Hannon's Tiggy Wiggy was second to Anthem Alexander, who also runs here, in the Queen Mary, but she subsequently defied top weight when running out a six-length winner of the Super Sprint at Newbury. She steps up to six furlongs for the first time and while Hannon admits it is an unknown, he thinks her relaxed style of racing gives her every chance of staying the trip. "On official ratings, Tiggy Wiggy is better than Ivawood taking into account the sex allowance and as she receives 3lb from Anthem Alexander, who beat her in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, I suppose she is entitled to be favourite," Hannon said on www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. "Obviously, the six is the question mark, but she looked as if she wanted the longer distance when outpaced at halfway at Royal Ascot, and she also stayed the stiff five well enough when bolting up in the National Stakes at Sandown. "This has been the target since she blitzed her rivals in the Super Sprint at Newbury last time and, though she has electric early pace, she definitely settles better than she did earlier in the season, so she gives herself every chance of staying the six." Brian Meehan believes Sulaalaat deserves her place in the field after opening her account at the second time of asking at Nottingham by four lengths. "She has always been highly regarded and followed a close second on her debut with a very easy win at Nottingham three weeks ago," Meehan told www.brianmeehan.com. "This is a big step up from a maiden, but she has shown both with the manner of that success and in her homework that she is a very talented filly with a very good turn of foot and she deserves to try her luck at this level." James Given's Pastoral Girl was second in the Princess Margaret and would not be without a chance while if David Evans' Patience Alexander bounced back to the form she showed at Royal Ascot rather than her last run at Haydock, she would be another with claims.

Man On The Spot selects Naps from Ffos Las, Bath, York and Wolverhampton for our daily Yankee. James Doyle: Rides Bragging at York 15:20 Ffos Las - totequadpot Four Places In Four Races Beginners' Chase There wouldn't have been much between HOLD COURT (NAP), Minella Reception and Vinnie My Boy over hurdles. The former and the latter both have experience over the larger obstacles, though disappointed last time. We'll give another chance to Evan Williams' seven-year-old as his debut second at Uttoxeter was a solid effort and he was challenging when falling at the last at Newton Abbot next time. The returning Leath Acra Mor and Tenby Jewel should find easier opportunities in the months ahead. 15:30 Bath - Follow Us On Twitter At bonusnetbets Handicap MOLLY JONES (NAP) would probably be going for a five-timer on this track but for failing to obtain a clear run last month. She's shot up the weights as a consequence but has won from a higher rating in the past so should continue her winning ways. Silverrica gained her only victory so far over this course and distance in June and is just 2lb higher so could prove a danger while Dangerous Age, a regular winner on Polytrack, bounced back to form with a very good run here last month. Shamahan won this last year and was having just his second subsequent start at Windsor a fortnight ago and looks to have been readied for another crack. Back the Man On The Spot Yankee with Sky Bet! 16:55 York - eventmasters.co.uk EBF Stallions Fillies' Handicap Dutch Rose was unbeaten in four starts on the track, including this a year ago, before beaten last month. The assessor has dropped her a couple of pounds and given her a chance of a repeat. The handicapper raised BRAGGING (NAP) 10lb after her demolition job over a strong field at Newmarket and was by no means harsh. Sir Michael Stoute's filly was having just her fourth start and even a mark of 97 shouldn't prevent another victory. The Gold Cheongsam, who finished runner-up in that latter race, is entitled to get closer but unlikely to turn the tables. Irish raider Sparkle Factor was narrowly beaten in a Listed contest last time so could prove a threat while Enraptured is just the type of progressive filly John Gosden does so well with at this time of the year and she'll be better for last month's reappearance after a long break. 18:50 Wolverhampton - 32Red Handicap Storm Lightning won this off a lower mark last year but needs to dig a bit deeper judged on recent placed efforts. Seamster is upped in class as he bids for a hat-trick and has been raised a further 6lb while Brother Tiger made all over 6f at Lingfield last year but attempts this shorter trip for the first time. EMJAYEM (NAP) has been getting steadily closer and Ed McMahon's charge looks set for a return to winning ways after a good effort behind the in-form Mister Manannan at Beverley. He gets the vote with The Dandy Yank and Distant Past others who could go well.

JAMIE SPENCER stunned the racing world on Thursday when he announced he will be retiring from the saddle at the end of the season and will take up a role with Qatar Racing's management team.
Spencer, who has captured a host of big races since starting his riding career as a teenager, will begin his new role in January 2015.
Having already occupied some of the biggest riding jobs in Flat racing, in 2012 it was announced that Spencer, 34, would become the new retained rider for Qatar Racing, set up by Sheikh Fahad Al Thani and his brothers.
The maroon and gold silks of Qatar Racing Limited have been seen with increasing regularity on British racecourses and beyond as the operation grows in stature, and Spencer has delivered several big-race wins during his tenure.
"This is a fantastic opportunity and if I have learned anything in my riding career it is that you should take such opportunities when they come along," said the jockey.
He added: "As much as I love race riding, it is not something I want to do for the rest of my life and, while I am not necessarily ready to retire now, I feel at a stage when I am ready for a change. I really enjoy being part of the Qatar Racing team, working with Sheikh Fahad, David [Redvers] and everyone in the team, and so the opportunity to continue that and at the same time start the next chapter in my career appealed to me.
"This has been a big decision and not one I have taken lightly. My priority is my family, and thinking of them and their future has played a key part in my decision. I feel I still have a lot to give to racing, and not just as a jockey.
"I would like to thank all the owners and trainers who have supported me throughout my career. I will always be grateful to them for the success I have had and the friendships built along the way."
Sheikh Fahad said: "I am delighted that Jamie will remain part of the team in his new role. I very much enjoy working with him and I am sure he will continue to be a great asset to Qatar Racing."
In his new role, Spencer will work closely with Sheikh Fahad and racing manager David Redvers providing feedback and advice on the horses in training for the operation.
Harry Bentley is the other rider retained by Qatar Racing, but it remains to seen if he will be ramain in his current role in 2015.
Regarding future jockey arrangements, Redvers said: "Jamie will continue to ride for Qatar Racing for the rest of the year. With regard to riding arrangements for 2015, we hope to be in a position to clarify the plans shortly."

Ex-trainer Elliott Cooper and former jockey Steven Gagan have both been warned off for 14 years following a British Horseracing Authority disciplinary panel hearing.
The pair, along with unlicensed individual Stuart Trevaskis, were at the centre of an investigation into three races between August 2011 and January 2012.
The BHA looked into the runs of Quell The Storm at Cartmel in August 2011 and Kickahead at Musselburgh in January 2012, as well as Platinum at Fakenham the same month although that horse was declared a non-runner by vets shortly before the race.
The matter was referred to Cumbria police in July 2012, but no charges were brought by the police after its investigation and it was referred back to the BHA a year later.
Gagan, who has not ridden since January 2012, was found guilty of a handful of breaches concerning the conspiracy to commit a corrupt practice, stopping horses, passing inside information, and failing to supply phone records for an unregistered phone.
Former jockey-turned-trainer Cooper was found guilty of breaking rules relating to the conspiracy to commit a corrupt practice, passing inside information, laying his own horse, and causing and encouraging Gagan to commit breaches of the Rules.
Trevaskis was banned for 11 and a half years after admitting to some of the charges of conspiracy to a commit a corrupt or fradulent practice. ======================================
Trainer Eddie Lynam has revealed his dual Group One-winning sprinter Slade Power is set to miss the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock next month.
The five-year-old claimed the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot and the July Cup at Newmarket during a glorious summer campaign and was due to head to Merseyside on September 6 for the hat-trick bid.
However, after returning from the July Course with ringworm, he now looks likely to head straight for Australia for the VRC Sprint at Melbourne in November, a race which is scheduled to be the last of his career before he is retired to stud.
Speaking on Channel 4 Racing, Lynam said: "Both of the horses (Slade Power and Sole Power) when they came back from the July Cup got very bad ringworm.
"Slade Power got it worse than Sole Power - both of them are fine again, but it can be hard on their immune system when they get something like that.
"I'd say Haydock is unlikely."
Asked about heading straight to Australia, Lynam said: "I would say so, yes." =======================================
Leading ante-post fancy Mighty Yar has scraped into the field for Saturday's Betfred Ebor at York and will be ridden by Frankie Dettori.
Trained by Lady Cecil, who is bidding for back-to-back wins in the famous handicap after the success of Tiger Cliff 12 months ago, Mighty Yar took the 20th and final spot.
Cecil also runs Retirement Plan, with the 4lb penalty he picked up for a recent win at the Shergar Cup meeting securing his spot in the field with Andrew Balding's Van Percy similarly benefiting from a last-time-out victory.
Tony Martin will be represented by Ted Veale, who won over fences recently but stablemate Quick Jack missed the cut.
Top weight will be carried by Balding's Whiplash Willie as Pale Mimosa was not declared.
Ante-post favourite Pallasator will still be ridden by Luke Morris despite being purchased by Qatar Racing, with Clever Cookie representing Peter Niven.
Mutual Regard runs for Johnny Murtagh, Ryan Moore will ride Bold Sniper for the Queen with Marco Botti having two strong chances in Chester Cup winner Suegioo and Old Newton Cup hero De Rigueur.
Dare To Achieve, Wadi Al Hattawi, Great Hall and Elidor are others to note.
The Ed Walker-trained Glorious Protector and Luca Cumani's Havana Cooler, who had been well supported in the run up to the race, are the two reserves. =======================================
William Haggas described Mukhadram as a "little bit sore" the morning after his slightly disappointing display in the Juddmonte International at York.
The Coral-Eclipse hero and King George third appeared to have sound claims returning to a mile and a quarter at a track where he has tasted success but having raced prominently, he faded late in the day to finish fourth of six runners.
Haggas t old Channel 4 Racing: "He's a little bit sore. He got struck into on his right hind (leg), Not an excuse of any description. He's one out of five lame on that right hind, but I think that's nothing. I don't know quite what to make of it (the run), but it didn't happen yesterday." ======================================
John Warren is hopeful the Queen's Gold Cup heroine Estimate can get her season back on track in the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Lonsdale Cup at York.
Sir Michael Stoute's mare brought the house down in Berkshire when becoming the first horse owned by a reigning monarch to claim Royal Ascot's two-and-a-half-mile feature in 2013 and was only narrowly denied by Leading Light when defending her crown in June.
She turned in a rare disappointing performance when finishing last of eight runners in last month's Goodwood Cup, but Warren, the Queen's racing advisor, expects her to show her true colours on this more conventional track.
He said: "Hopefully she can get back on track. Sir Michael is certainly very happy with her and hopefully we can leave Goodwood behind us. We're very positive she will give a good account of herself and hopefully give her true running.
"The track should certainly suit her much better than Goodwood and the faster the ground the better for her, I think. Unless there is a torrential downpour and the going changes significantly, I don't think there will be any excuses."
Perhaps the biggest threat to a Royal winner on the Knavesmire is Godolphin's admirable veteran Cavalryman, who has been in the form of his life this summer at the age of eight.
Saeed bin Suroor's charge proved his surprise victory in the Princess of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket was no flash in the pan with a similarly determined triumph in the Goodwood Cup, and the trainer expects another bold show.
"Cavalryman is doing well and had a nice blow-out on the gallops the other day. He has always shown us his class since the day that he joined us over four years ago and we have a special programme with older horses who we want to keep for a long time designed to keep them happy and sound," said Bin Suroor.
"He is a brilliant horse who is very tough. Some horses improve with age and others do the opposite but with him he has kept on improving, both physically and mentally. He always looks wonderful. He wouldn't want the ground to be too soft on Friday but good or good to soft would be fine."
Pale Mimosa is a fascinating contender for Dermot Weld. The five-year-old won the Galtres Stakes at the 2012 Ebor Festival and returns to the track in tip-top form following an impressive victory in the Challenge Stakes at Leopardstown last month.
Big-race jockey Pat Smullen said: "I think she goes there with every chance. She came out of Leopardstown well and she has course form, which always helps. It looks a very good race and she's going to have to step up on what she's done so far, but we think she can do that.
"She doesn't want the ground too firm. We took her out of the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot because the ground was too quick, so hopefully we get some of the showers that are forecast ."
Pale Mimosa is joined on the trip across the Irish Sea by the Mick Halford-trained Certerach, who beat Cavalryman at the Dubai Carnival earlier in the year but was beaten into sixth by Pale Mimosa at Leopardstown last time.
Halford said: "He travelled over on Wednesday and had a good trip. He's in good form and hopefully they don't get too much rain as he loves fast ground. It's a tough race with horses like Estimate and Cavalryman in there and he'll need a career-best to win, but we're hoping he'll run well.
"Things didn't really go to plan in Leopardstown the last day. He was a bit keen and I think you can just put a line through it. We know he's better than that. Jamie Spencer gets on well with him, the track will suit and we're glad to be involved."
Times Up won this race two years ago, but has failed to fire in two starts so far this term. Trainer Ed Dunlop is hoping for a more positive showing to set him up for next month's Doncaster Cup, a race he has won in each of the last two seasons.
"His first run of the year came when my horses weren't very well and his second run was in very bad ground when he probably wasn't right either," said Dunlop.
"This is very much like his first run of the year, but he's ready to run and we want to get him out to put him right for Doncaster. Hopefully we'll see something, but I would expect him to improve."
High Jinx has run well in defeat at York in the past and snapped a losing run dating back over two years at Maisons-Laffitte last time, but trainer James Fanshawe has warned his participation is not yet certain.
He said: "He scraped home last time in France and it was great to get him winning again. He's been in good form since, but we'll need to see some rain if he's going to run." ========================================
Eddie Lynam has warned Sole Power was in better form earlier in the season ahead of his run in Friday's Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
The seven-year-old caused a 100-1 surprise in the Group One four years ago and has since gone on to prove himself as one of the best sprinters on the planet.
He won the King's Stand at Royal Ascot in June but was a late withdrawal from the July Cup, won by stablemate Slade Power, on account of soft ground. However, he has since suffered a skin infection and missed some training.
"Since being forced to miss the July Cup because of the soft ground he has had a bad skin infection, like ringworm or dermatitis, which forced him to miss 10 days of training. We had to have his rugs off the whole time, which was not ideal, but it is better that it happened in the summer, when it is warmer, and he has been back in full training for two weeks and worked well on Tuesday morning," said Lynam.
"My gut feeling is that he may not be quite in the same form as he was before Royal Ascot, but he is coming back to himself day by day so we will take him to York hopeful rather than confident. This will be the fourth time that he has run in the Nunthorpe. He is about 45 kilos heavier now than when he won it in 2010 so he has developed a lot and got a lot stronger.
"I keep expecting him to show signs of old age but that has yet to materialise - I would even say that his most impressive race ever was his last. Like a good wine he seems to get better with age and hopefully that can carry on a bit longer.
"With a come-from-behind horse like him the leaders don't tend to come back to you in the Nunthorpe, unlike at Ascot. But he has won the race before and is one horse that no one else should take for granted. If the ground came up soft we would have to consider withdrawing him, but if it was good to soft we would probably take a chance with him."
Aidan O'Brien's Cougar Mountain was a five-length winner on his debut in June before being pitched into the July Cup, where he finished a perfectly respectable fifth.
"Cougar Mountain seems to be fine since his run in the July Cup. Obviously, it was a big jump up for a very young and inexperienced horse, so we have to be very careful and tender with him. But he seems to be in good form," said O'Brien.
Take Cover was three lengths behind Sole Power at Royal Ascot but has won a Listed race at York and the King George at Glorious Goodwood since, propelling his trainer David Griffiths into the limelight.
Griffiths, who trains a string of 20, said: "We've got to take on Sole Power, Hot Streak, Pearl Secret and those guys are obviously very good. I think Sole Power is the one seriously, seriously good horse that you would be scared of, but I think we are entitled to take our chance, aren't we? If you look at the Goodwood race, a lot of them were proven Group performers - Stepper Point was second in the King's Stand. On paper, it was pretty much a Group One.
"The times came out very fast. I think one of the furlongs was done in nine seconds and change, which is not unheard of, but it's very rare. A couple of them tried to take us on early doors, but like I said to Andrea (Atzeni, jockey of Take Cover), if they are going too fast for him, they are going too fast and will never get home."
Just behind Take Cover at Goodwood was Moviesta, who is returning to his best for Bryan Smart having won the King George Stakes 12 months previously.
"I'm a Yorkshireman so to go to the Ebor meeting with some good chances is what it's all about. To get a winner is the dream. Moviesta is really well. I am very happy with him. He ran really well at Goodwood and he has been in terrific form since," said Smart.
Part-owner Ritchie Fiddes said: "We need it to stay dry as he wants quick ground to be seen at his best - whenever he's had conditions to suit he's never disappointed. He's now back on song, is training really well and is a stronger horse than last year.
"If Sole Power's at his best he's the one to beat but we know there's not much between us and Take Cover - Goodwood suits the front-runners more and this is a step up for him."
G Force is another who ran in the Goodwood race and also behind Take Cover at York. He had a valid excuse for not finishing closer, according to trainer David O'Meara.
"We felt G Force was unlucky behind Take Cover in the City Walls Stakes. He was struck over the head by a whip and it probably cost him. He then finished behind Take Cover at Goodwood but he'll head to the Nunthorpe. He won well at York in the spring and seems in good form. Any ease in the ground would suit," said O'Meara.
Kevin Ryan's Astaire ran well in the Duke of York in May but has been found wanting behind Slade Power the last twice. Ryan also runs Hot Streak, winner of the Temple Stakes.
"It's going to be interesting dropping back to five furlongs but Hughesie (Richard Hughes) rode him in the Duke of York and he said he'd love to ride him over five. It didn't really enter my mind but if you don't take the advice of someone like Richard Hughes, with all the experience he has got - it will be interesting. He's in great form, it's nice to have two horses of that calibre to run in the race," said Ryan. =========================================
William Haggas repeated his feat of 12 months previous by saddling the first and third in the valuable DBS Premier Yearling Stakes as Mubtaghaa took the York heat.
Owned by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, he was overlooked by retained jockey Paul Hanagan in favour of Markaz, who was withdrawn down at the start.
Kool Kompany was sent off favourite having mixed it in the highest company of late but he appeared to find things happening a bit quick early in the race. Mubtaghaa (12-1) and Silvestre de Sousa made their challenge down the centre of the track, with New Providence on the far side, but there was a length and a half separating them at the line.
Haggas' Valley Of Fire stayed on to take third, with Kool Kompany out of the places.
Haggas said: "I suppose its been the plan for about a month and I didn't run after the July Stakes for fear of picking up a penalty. It's lovely to have a winner when the boss (Sheikh Hamdan) is here. I think I've got him in the Mill Reef so that's something to look at."
A great afternoon for Haggas got even better as Queen Of Ice just held off Arabian Comet in a one-two for the trainer in the Sir Henry Cecil & EBF Galtres Stakes.
Yorkshire-born Haggas landed the same Listed event with his well-regarded Our Obsession last year and it looked as if Andrea Atzeni and Queen Of Ice were much the more likely winners as she went past Noble Protector inside the last couple of furlongs. The 20-1 chance, placed at this level already this season, was then asked to dig very deep as Joe Fanning and Arabian Comet began a late charge and eventually finished just a nose in arrears.
Haggas said: "Arabian Comet just wants further and she'll go for the Park Hill next. I'm not sure about the winner, she's not in anything and I think it's a case of job done. She was given a great ride and he caught the rest napping. It's great to win a race named after Sir Henry, and just great to win any race here, especially for these owners (Cheveley Park Stud) as they've been with me since the start."
Short Squeeze returned to winning ways thanks to a nerveless last-to-first ride from Pat Smullen.
Smullen had no choice but to drop his mount out in the rear from his draw in stall 18 and he was bringing up the rear turning into the straight. It was a heartbreaking last furlong to watch for connections of Top Notch Tonto, who hit the front under top weight and appeared to be fighting off all challengers.
Hugo Palmer's four-year-old, who looked so promising last term, changed gear close home and won by a head. Balducci was third, with Bronze Angel fourth.
Palmer said of the 8-1 winner: "He hates having horses around him so I said to Pat to keep him out the back, take as long as you like and come with a long run in the home straight. That was the definition of it (a hold-up ride). There's a chance he could go to Australia, but he's now qualified for the Balmoral Handicap and then there's Dubai if he didn't go."
Brian Ellison said of Top Notch Tonto: "I knew he was back from his work at home, and he has run a blinder. He's been absolutely storming up the gallops. He can go for a Group Two at the Curragh on September 14 (Clipper Logistics Boomerang Stakes) now."
Sir Michael Stoute's Bragging made a mockery of her handicap mark of 97 with a three-length win in the eventmasters.co.uk EBF Stallions Fillies' Stakes, looking Pattern-class in the making.
"I don't think we'll be worrying about her handicap mark, we'll have to go up in class with her after that," said Stoute of the 100-30 favourite.
Looking over at owner Khalid Abdullah's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe, Stoute added: "I need to persuade them to keep her in training as she's a big filly who can only keep on improving."
Godolphin's Wedding Ring (Richard Hughes) unfortunately broke a leg in the race and brought down Artistic Charm (Atzeni). Both jockeys walked back to the weighing room. =======================================
Pocket rocket Tiggy Wiggy made every yard of the running to claim the Pinsent Masons Lowther Stakes at York for Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes.
After finding Anthem Alexander too strong in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, Tiggy Wiggy blitzed her rivals in the Super Sprint at Newbury and was a 15-8 favourite to exact her revenge on Eddie Lynam's raider.
The Kodiac filly was soon bowling along at the head of affairs, with Anthem Alexander on her tail under Pat Smullen. The unbeaten Cursory Glance, winner of the Albany Stakes at the Royal meeting, was also in the mix heading inside the last of six furlongs, but Tiggy Wiggy was not for passing.
Hannon's charge stuck her neck out in determined fashion to repel Cursory Glance by a length and a half, with Anthem Alexander a further half-length away in third.
Hughes said: "She gets a little bit uptight (before races), but she lets out that huge fly-leap and then it's out of her system. She's as good as gold then. She's worth the hassle. I just sat on her there and held her mane and all I could hear was the lads slapping the shoulders off the horses behind me.
"She travels so easy and she is better when the ground is a bit slower than that. She got the six (furlongs) well. The last 50 yards I was hoping the line would come."
Hannon said: "She's very difficult, but she's very fast. I think that was one of the best Lowthers we've seen for years.
"You'd have to think we're going for the Cheveley Park next and looking at that, I can't see her having any problems with the trip. We'll talk about the Guineas during the winter, but she's got a lot to do physically. I think she'll have no problem getting a trip, but we'll enjoy her while she's in this stage."
Roger Varian was thrilled with the effort in defeat of Cursory Glance, saying: "I'm disappointed she didn't win, but I'm delighted with the performance. The first three are obviously very good and we think she will improve when she goes up in trip, which makes her very exciting.
"We'll get her home first, but she's well entered up. She's very classy and has always shown us that speed, but she looks like next year she'll go a mile and we'll probably step her up to seven furlongs this year as a two-year-old."
Alexander Anthem's owner Noel O'Callaghan said: "It's got a bit loose on top and she just didn't quicken up like usual in that ground. I've no problem with the trip, and she'll still go for the Cheveley Park. We've certainly not lost faith in her yet." ===========================================
Jamie Spencer stunned the racing world on Thursday with his announcement that he will retire from riding at the end of the current season to take up a new role with Qatar Racing Ltd.
The 34-year-old, who has twice been crowned champion jockey in Britain as well as once in Ireland, is currently retained rider for the powerful operation but will work closely alongside Sheikh Fahad Al Thani and his bloodstock advisor David Redvers providing feedback and advice on their horses from 2015.
Spencer said: "This is a fantastic opportunity and if I have learned anything in my riding career it is that you should take such opportunities when they come along. As much as I love race riding, it is not something I want to do for the rest of my life and while I am not necessarily ready to retire now, I feel at a stage when I am ready for a change."
He added: "I really enjoy being part of the Qatar Racing team, working with Sheikh Fahad, David and everyone in the team, and so the opportunity to continue that and at the same time start the next chapter in my career appealed to me."
Spencer burst onto the scene when winning the Irish 1,000 Guineas aboard Tarascon back in 1998 at the age of just 17, and has enjoyed plenty of big-race winners during a career that also saw him spend the 2004 season as stable rider for Aidan O'Brien. He famously shared the British title with Seb Sanders in 2007 in a battle that went right to the last day and bagged British Classic success with the likes of 2003 St Leger hero Brian Boru and 2009 Oaks winner Sariska.
Spencer said: "This has been a big decision and not one I have taken lightly. My priority is my family, and thinking of them and their future has played a key part in my decision. I feel I still have a lot to give to racing, and not just as a jockey. I would like to thank all the owners and trainers who have supported me throughout my career. I will always be grateful to them for the success I have had and the friendships built along the way."
Spencer, godson of Coolmore supremo John Magnier, has been retained rider for Qatar Racing since 2013, with Just The Judge providing a memorable first Classic success for the team when landing last year's Irish 1,000 Guineas.
Redvers said: "Ever since we signed up Jamie he has impressed us with his commitment and contribution. He has been an invaluable team player and this new role will enable him to build on that. I am delighted that we will continue to benefit from his insight, enthusiasm and invaluable experience. Jamie will continue to ride for Qatar Racing for the rest of the year. With regard to riding arrangements for 2015, we hope to be in a position to clarify the plans shortly."
Spencer had his first success on Huncheon Chance at Downpatrick in 1996, and just two years later was a Classic-winning rider as Tommy Stack's Tarascon beat the O'Brien-trained Kitza by a neck.
Fozzy Stack, assistant to his father, said of the Country Tipperary-born rider: "He's been a great jockey. The family have known him since he was four years old and he's been a great friend to me over the years. We've had a couple of great days together on a professional front. Obviously Tarascon winning was a good day. Jamie was 17 at the time and it was a big call to put him up, but Jamie is a good rider and always was."
Sariska was trained by Michael Bell, who said: "I was admittedly shocked when he first told me, but he's taking on a new, exciting challenge and I can see his reasoning. He's been riding at the top level since he was 17 and while I would have loved to continue to use his services, I can understand why he's come to this decision.
"We had a lot of fun and success over the years. The two Oaks wins (English and Irish) with Sariska were obviously fantastic and the Red Evie days were great as well. The ride he gave Red Evie to win the Lockinge was phenomenal. In my opinion he's an outstanding jockey. When he's riding at his best, he's as good as anyone."
O'Brien said: "It's a pity. Jamie is a great rider, always was and always has been. He knows himself if he has a good job. It's a tough life a jockey's life. There's ups and downs, day in and day out. There's disappointments and everyone knows how tough it is. If he has a good job I can see where he's coming from.
"He always was a great rider and a great fellow and was always very special to deal with in every way. He came to us when he was very young and was just about to get married, so he probably had a lot going on. He's a great horseman and we couldn't wish him more well. We take our hat off to him and wish him all the very best."
Emerging young talent Andrea Atzeni, currently number one for rider for Roger Varian, is the odds-on favourite to be appointed as the new retained jockey for Qatar Racing. ================================================
A Ladies Day crowd on the Knavesmire was left as surprised as connections of Taghrooda as the unbeaten record of a filly that had looked little short of exceptional was ended by Tapestry in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks.
After her heroics in the Investec Oaks and the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, this latest Group One was expected to be little more than a warm-up for a probable challenge for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
Halfway down the long home straight, everything appeared in hand with Paul Hanagan still to play his cards, but Taghrooda then found herself matched up against racing's most irresistible combination of Ryan Moore and Aidan O'Brien, with Tapestry (8-1) wearing down the 1-5 favourite and winning by half a length.
Overnight rain had eased the conditions slightly to good from Wednesday's good to firm, but Taghrooda's first defeat in five starts had been handed out by a rival who is said by her trainer to demand quick conditions. Tapestry had her own back story, and while her second-place to stablemate Bracelet in the Irish Oaks made good reading purely on paper, O'Brien knew it should really have been another first.
He said: "It didn't go right in the 1000 Guineas but there was a glimmer in the Coronation Stakes (sixth). She's come forward with every run and the last day in the (Irish) Oaks she stumbled coming out of the stalls and the saddle went out on her rump. It was hard to believe she went the whole race with the saddle where it was and still just got beaten."
O'Brien, fresh from Australia's Juddmonte International triumph, now has another star performer to pitch into the autumn championship races.
"It wouldn't matter where it was, colts or fillies, but ground would be vital. If all fails you'd imagine you'd get fast ground at Santa Anita (Breeders' Cup) at the end of the year," he said.
Asked if Tapestry could stay in training at four, he said: "The lads (Coolmore owners) will decide. It would be great but she's a Galileo and they are so valuable. There's always a risk you'll lose them."
Taghrooda can still head for Longchamp in October, and trainer John Gosden said: "No excuses, she's just been outstayed on the Knavesmire, which has happened to horses before. She was nice and relaxed through the race, he (Hanagan) gave her a lovely ride and it was a great race.
"The winner is just one of those fillies that has come to herself at this time of year. There was a lot of confidence behind her in the Irish Oaks and she had a problem with her tack, I believe. They've beaten the rest an awful long way, and she has just been outstayed.
"She's been in great form at home and barely had a race in the King George so there'll be no change to the plan, it will still be the Arc. They've always liked the winner, she has always been towards the top of their pecking order."
His views were echoed by Hanagan, who said: "I don't think there were many excuses, she was just beaten by a very good horse. We went a nice enough gallop, I got there and I thought it would take a very good one to beat me and I think one did. No excuses."
Taghrooda was eased to 10-1 from 4s for the Arc by Coral, and to 8s from 3s by Ladbrokes.
Moore had a Grade One double in America last weekend and this was yet another big race to tick off his list, even if he was given a four-day whip ban (September 4-5, 7-8) for his trouble.
He said: "She looked one of the best two-year-olds last year and it has just taken a while for her to come to hand, but she ran a very good race the last day and has improved again today. We had nothing to lose. So it (tracking Taghrooda) seemed the best play we had. She had to battle. The other filly had plenty of time to come back if she was good enough. They are two very good fillies - they were seven lengths clear and I think that says it all really."
Godolphin's Tasaday ran well for a 22-1 chance, and finished seven lengths further back in third. Trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: "She ran a good race, and the softer the ground the better. She has a lot of options open to her over a mile and a half, both here and abroad."

Trainer Eddie Lynam has revealed his dual Group One-winning sprinter Slade Power is set to miss the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock next month. Slade Power is set to miss Haydock The five-year-old claimed the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot and the July Cup at Newmarket during a glorious summer campaign and was due to head to Merseyside on September 6 for the hat-trick bid. "I'd say Haydock is unlikely." Asked about heading straight to Australia, Lynam said: "I would say so, yes."
