SIX-TIME champion jockey Kieren Fallon has reacted angrily to comments made by At The Races presenter Matt Chapman over one of his rides at Southwell last week.
Bwindi was beaten half a length into second at 8-13 with Chapman, according to Fallon, suggesting three days later on ATR's Sunday Forum that the stewards should have looked into the ride.
Writing in his column in this week's Racing Post Weekender, Fallon, who was given a four-day ban for overuse of whip in the race, said: "I would love to challenge Chapman to push a horse the whole way round Southwell in the deep sand. He wouldn't get to the end of the straight."
Fallon, who misses next week's Betfred Ebor due to the Southwell punishment added: "When you are a top sportsman in any discipline you are always open to criticism, and when it is merited it is fair enough.
"But when you are slagged off by individuals who have no experience of what they are talking about - and Chapman has to be in that category - then it really angers me."

FOR the first time this year the famous sporting rivalry between the Oxford and Cambridge universities will include a horse race with a Flat contest set to be held at Newmarket on Dubai Future Champions Day on October 17.
The two universities, whose sporting challenges include the Boat Race along the Thames, will compete in a ten-runner contest sporting either the light blue of Cambridge or dark blue of Oxford.
The idea for the race came from Harry Beckett, son of Khalid Abdullah's racing manager Lord Grimthorpe, who said: "I've spent two years trying to get this race off the ground so I'm delighted to see it come to fruition.
"I sincerely hope that this is just the start of a real connection between racecourses and students, as there is a real need for more sustainable investment."
The Varsity race is part of a wider drive to involve students more in racing including free entry to Future Champions Day and Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot on October 18.
Rod Street, chief executive of Great British Racing, said: "This new race is a great innovation for racing and we're delighted that the students at Oxford and Cambridge have embraced the idea with such enthusiasm.
"We hope students turn out in force to cheer on the riders and take advantage of the amazing free entry offers at Newmarket and Ascot."
Seven riders from each university are undergoing training at the British Racing School in Newmarket and Oaksey House in Lambourn to prepare them for the 1m race. Final riding selections will be made in early October.

Wesley Ward's Royal Ascot hero Hootenanny has been ruled out of the Ebor meeting at York and will instead aim to provide the American trainer with a second successive victory in the Prix Morny at Deauville on Sunday week. Hootenanny: Misses York Ward was looking forward to making a first visit to the Knavesmire, with runaway Windsor Castle Stakes winner Hootenanny holding entries in the Coolmore Nunthorpe as well as the Gimcrack Stakes. However, Ward has discovered the journey to York would be problematic and he will instead head for France in a bid to claim a Group One prize won 12 months ago by his stable companion, No Nay Never. Ward said: "Due to logistical reasons, unfortunately, he's not going to be able to go to York, so the plan is to run in the Prix Morny. "I was really looking forward to seeing him run at York and I'm told it's a great meeting, but we can get a direct flight to Paris for the Morny and to run at York would have added another 10 hours on to his journey. "He would have had to get off the plane and pretty much go straight into the paddock if he were running at York. It would have been tough enough for him to overcome the journey, let alone win the race. "The six furlongs of the Morny should be fine for him. The horse that won the race last year, No Nay Never, is a pure sprinter, but I think Hootenanny can go a mile. "He's got long legs on him and is bigger than No Nay Never. "When I say he's bigger, I mean height-wise, not width. No Nay Never could pull a train he's so strong!" Frankie Dettori made the trip to Saratoga last month to take up a number of rides for Ward, who is keeping his fingers crossed the popular Italian might be available to partner Hootenanny at Deauville. "I've mentioned it to Frankie, but he thinks he might have a horse to ride for his employers (Al Shaqab Racing)," said Ward. "I'd like him to ride Hootenanny if he can, so we'll see how it plays out." Earlier this week Ward ruled his July Cup fourth Undrafted out of the Nunthorpe and he will be heading home later in the month. "He's with my good friend Robert Cowell. I had a talk with him after the horse had a good stretch the other morning and together we decided not to run in the Nunthorpe," said Ward. "I don't want to run my horses over in England unless I think they have a good chance of winning and he might be better running in a Group Three or a Group Two. "He's staying with Robert and will come back to the States with Hootenanny after the Morny."

Jamie Osborne is hoping "fortune favours the brave" after giving stable star Toast Of New York the green light for another trans-Atlantic mission later this month. Toast Of New York: Del Mar hopeful The three-year-old justified his trainer's faith with a brilliant victory in the UAE Derby at Meydan at the end of March, after which a tilt at the Epsom Derby was considered before connections eventually decided to head Stateside for the Belmont Derby early last month. Toast Of New York travelled well for a long way in New York before eventually weakening into sixth and Osborne found his charge to be under the weather after returning a dirty scope back in Britain. The Lambourn-based trainer feels his stable star is back on-song and he is due to board the plane on Friday ahead of a tilt at the Pacific Classic at Del Mar on August 24. Osborne said: "He worked well this morning and most importantly he scoped clean. He'll have a canter in the morning and as long as everything is okay, he'll be on the box on Friday and will arrive in California on Saturday night. "We're happy with the horse and he looks great, so we're hoping fortune favours the brave. "We think we know why he underperformed in New York. This is going to be a tough ask for him, but it's worth 1million dollars and if you can't have a bit of fun and enjoy owning horses like him then what's the point? "We know he handles the surface, he justifies a place in the field and it's going to be another exciting trip for us all. "There isn't a lot for him in England or Europe coming up and I've no idea what we'll do with him after the race in California. "We know where we want to be in the next six to nine months and it could be that after he runs at Del Mar he won't run again before he goes to Dubai. "One thing we definitely will be doing is taking him out to Dubai early next year to give him chance to familiarise himself with the new dirt surface. "If it had been the same surface as last year, the Tapeta, we obviously wouldn't need to do that, but the surface has changed and we want to make sure we're in the best position for the World Cup."

Richard Fahey's Gabrial is set for a drastic step up in trip in the Betfred Ebor at York next week. Angel Gabrial: York options Fahey could be double-handed with Angel Gabrial, prominent in the betting, and Gabrial entered. For Gabrial – owned by Dr Marwan Koukash – running in the Betfred Ebor would represent a significant step up in distance to an extended 14 furlongs, having never gone beyond a mile and a quarter before. Fahey said: “It is a big step up in trip. Marwan is quite keen to have a go. His pedigree suggests he might stay. We’ll see what happens.” Koukash also owns Angel Gabrial who won the John Smith’s Northumberland Plate at Newcastle in June before being beaten at Glorious Goodwood – a performance Fahey is inclined to forgive. He said: “I just thought the Goodwood race was a little bit messy, a little bit inconclusive.” “Angel Gabrial will also get an entry in the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Lonsdale Cup (a Group 2 staged over two miles on Friday 22 August), so we will have a look at both races and make a decision closer to the time. He will be definitely be at York and is in good order.” Ask Fahey which of his horses he is viewing with most optimism next week and his reply is: “I’m quite lucky – there’s quite a few I’m looking forward to.” The one he singles out, though, is Gabrial’s Kaka, who will contest the £80,000 Clipper Logistics Stakes, staged over a mile next Thursday, it is also a qualifying race for the Balmoral Handicap on British Champions Day. Fahey said: “He just wants decent ground but is a horse we like.” During the last decade or so, he has won countless big races on the Knavesmire, just 20 miles down the road from his Musley Bank base near Malton. Indeed, Fahey had all but made York’s annual ‘Leading Trainer’ award his own, winning it on seven successive occasions before David O’Meara shaded him to the title last season. Fahey relishes a winner at his ‘local’ track and next week will have plenty of prospects for the Welcome To Yorkshire Ebor Festival, which gets underway on Wednesday 20 August. The four-day event is a hugely important one for Fahey, as he makes clear. “It’s a big one and always has been – but it’s becoming a bigger one,” said Fahey. “It’s probably nearly as important as Royal Ascot. If it carries on with the progress, it is going to be the most important meeting of the year.” “The racing is fantastic and the prize money – I don’t know how much it has gone up in the last few years, but it has definitely gone up in the last three years... drastically. It’s incredible and hats off to everybody involved.” The statistics support Fahey’s enthusiasm; this year total prize money for the four days will exceed £3.5 million, the third year of investment, this time to the tune of £250,000 year on year. For racegoers, the Festival is a hugely enjoyable experience with fashion, good food and friendship to the fore. For trainers, though, it is success on the track – or otherwise – that will dictate how pleasurable the four days are. Fahey said: “If you get some winners, it’s enjoyable, if you don’t, it depresses you! It’s the sort of effect it has on you.”

Connections of Wannabe Yours are contemplating September options for the exciting colt following his impressive victory at Glorious Goodwood. John Gosden three-year-old has graduated from a Nottingham maiden to win a Doncaster handicap and, most recently, the Group Three Thoroughbred Stakes in which he showed thrilling acceleration, despite jockey William Buick dropping his whip. Owner-breeder Philippa Cooper is adamant her charge will be even better with another winter under his belt. She said: "I was thrilled with the way he came through to win on the line, especially with William dropping his whip. "I always feel sorry for the loser when you win on the line. We've lost many races that way and it's really hard to take. "I don't think the ground was ideal for our horse. It was more courage than anything that got him through and we know he handles softer ground very well, so he should be able to perform in the autumn. "I spoke to John about him (on Tuesday morning) and I think we're looking towards September for him, not nothing is set in stone. "He won't be running in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood. He isn't entered and I'm not really into supplementing. I also think it will come too soon. "He's from a backward family so I'm surprised he's achieved as much as he has as a three-year-old. "I think next year will be his year." ======================================= Genius Boy aims to continue his fantastic run of form in the totepool Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury on Thursday. James Tate's prolific winner was unraced as a juvenile and as a three-year-old, but he has appeared intent on making up for lost time this season. The son of New Approach has won five times from eight starts, including his last four races, and Tate feels the time is right to test the water at Group Three level. Tate said: "He's obviously in very good form, having won his last four races, and we think he's due another step up the ladder. "It goes without saying more is required for him to get his head in front again, but he is a horse who only just does enough to beat what is put in front of him, so we do think he can step up. "This race will certainly tell us where we're going with him in the future." The Rod Millman-trained Master Carpenter has enjoyed a similarly excellent season, winning a Listed prize at Sandown and a Group Three in France. He was far from disgraced in finishing third behind John Gosden's Western Hymn over a mile and a quarter at Maisons-Laffitte last month and Millman feels his charge will appreciate this lesser stamina test. "He's been running well all season and hopefully he'll give another good account of himself," said the Devon trainer. "He obviously has to carry a Group Three penalty, which we could have done without, but he seems in really good form. "He didn't quite see it out over a mile and a quarter last time, but he still ran a good race. "I think coming back to a mile will suit him and we'd like to see a bit of rain overnight to ensure he gets his conditions." Richard Hannon fires a formidable twin assault, with Producer and Anjaal major contenders for the £75,000 contest. The Marlborough handler told "Producer has been travelling in the fast lane these past 12 months, and this is the first time that he has dropped to Group Three since he won the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket last summer. "He ran well in a hot race at York last time and should be a major player dropped in grade. "Similarly, Anjaal is dropping down one rung, and he ran his best race for a long time when a fast-finishing third in the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood last month. "Nothing finished better, so back over the mile he also goes there with a shout." The highest-rated horse in the 11-strong field is the William Haggas-trained Yuften, who passed the post second in the Group One Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly last month before being demoted to fourth. South African trainer Mike de Kock is represented by Rerouted. Other interesting contenders include Captain Cat from Roger Charlton's yard and Godolphin's Tawhid. ===================================== Forever Now is to go to France in search of a Listed success in the Prix Michel Houyvet at Deauville on Sunday. The John Gosden-trained three-year-old looked a promising stayer in the making when running away with a Doncaster maiden in June on his third start and followed that up with a good third behind Hartnell in the Group Three Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket's July meeting. The winner that day is a leading fancy for the Ladbrokes St Leger but Forever Now is unlikely to take up his entry in the final Classic of the season, for which he was generally available at 25-1, at Doncaster next month. His next port of call is across the Channel in a Listed race for three-year-olds over one mile and seven furlongs. "It looks like Forever Now is going to run in Deauville on Sunday in a Listed race," said Hugo Lascelles, racing manager to owner Lady Bamford. "The form of his Newmarket race has worked out decently so we are going to give him the chance of a Listed race there. "I would say he's very unlikely to go for the St Leger." ======================================= Trainer Paul Deegan has warned Sruthan is likely to improve for the run as he makes his first appearance since May in the Invesco Pension Consultants Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday. Having signed off his 2013 campaign with a first Pattern victory in the Concorde Stakes at Tipperary, he struck again at Group Three level on his return to action in the Gladness Stakes at the Curragh in April. However, Sruthan disappointed on his Group One debut in the Lockinge at Newbury and makes his first appearance since then. Deegan said: "We're looking forward to getting him back on the track, he's in good form and the ground is right. "It's his first run back, he's ready to start, but you would expect him to come on a bit for the race. "The ground went against him in Newbury, he wasn't right afterwards and it's taken a while for us to get him back, but hopefully we're back on the right road now. "He's had a nice holiday, he's nice and fresh and hopefully he'll have a good end to the year. "After the Desmond there's the Boomerang Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend and then the Concorde Stakes in Tipperary he won last year, so if he could win one of the three we'd be delighted." Sabrina Harty has declared last month's impressive Minstrel Stakes winner Ansgar, but could yet decide against letting him run if conditions deteriorate. Harty said: "He really doesn't want the ground any worse than good to yielding, so I'm hoping they don't get any more rain. "If it does go too soft for him, he won't run. "Seven furlongs on good ground is his optimum. It's a mile on softer ground and he doesn't have a good draw (stall 10), so there's plenty against us, but there aren't many races for him. "We have him in at Doncaster (Park Stakes) next month and he's entered on Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown, but we'd like to run him tomorrow first if we can, so we'll see what happens." Ansgar and Sruthan have to concede weight to the rest of their opponents in a 10-strong field. Aidan O'Brien saddles Great White Eagle and Palace, while John Oxx has Qewy and Harasiya in contention. The Ger Lyons-trained Brendan Brackan, Jim Bolger's Leitir Mor, Tommy Stack's Alive Alive Oh and David O'Meara's British raider Custom Cut complete the line-up. The latter, formerly trained in Ireland by George Kent and Dermot Weld, won in Listed class at Pontefract last month and may even end up running in either the City Of York Stakes or the Strensall Stakes at York next week. O'Meara said: "Custom Cut is due to head to Ireland for the Desmond Stakes on Thursday and if he comes out of that well, he could head to York." ======================================== One filly nearing the end of her racing career and one colt at the very beginning of his own completed a fine afternoon at Salisbury for resurgent trainer Henry Candy. Lady Pimpernel took the afternoon's feature event, gaining prized Listed black type when making nearly all of the running at 20-1 in the EBF Stallions Upavon Fillies' Stakes. Candy has sent out a plethora of promising juveniles, whose contributions may yet take him to his best seasonal total in recent memory, and Music Master's half-brother Twilight Son looked another when winning on his debut in the British Stallion Studs EBF Molson Coors Maiden Stakes. Lady Pimpernel, who was only rated 89 after claiming a Newmarket handicap earlier in the month, stayed out of trouble under Dane O'Neill as Gifted Girl had a vastly different experience. Paul Cole's mare was thwarted in an attempt to get up the inside rail and while she eventually found daylight, she could not make up the necessary two and a quarter lengths on Lady Pimpernel. "She's not bad for a seven grand breeze-up horse," said Candy. "She has the most amazing stride on her, she covers so much ground. "I'd be in no rush to run her again, maybe once more if she begs for it, otherwise I'd have thought the December sales would be the next call." It was typical of Candy to start off the Kyllachy colt Twilight Son in the same event his relative finished fourth in two years earlier. Twilight Son (5-1) still looked a bit green but had a charmed run up the fence to score by half a length from 2-1 favourite Desert Force. "I was frightened to even put Fergus (Sweeney) on his back but we found a nice quiet spot under the trees," said Candy. "Everything came as a surprise to him. I won't be too hard on him this year, maybe find a novice and look forward to next year." Music Master has shown marked improvement since dropping back to sprinting and is likely to run in next week's Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York. On comparisons, Candy said: "He looks more and more like him every day." Recent Glorious Goodwood winner Grigolo (9-2) doubled up by making all the running under Silvestre de Sousa in the SH Jones Wines Nursery. Calvin McCormack, representing trainer Mark Johnston, said: "He's a very big horse and looks more like a three-year-old than a two-year-old. He's still green but tries hard." Marcus Tregoning's Between Wickets came with a late run to collect the Goldring Security Services Pembroke Cup. The 8-1 chance had been placed four times before getting off the mark in a Chester maiden and needed to be angled late by Martin Dwyer before quickening down the outside and beating Potentate by a length and a quarter. "That was good," said the trainer. "The hood has helped him. He missed the break as I think he was looking at the filly in the stall next to him, but he's progressive at the moment." De Sousa, on fourth-placed Bowie Boy, was given a two-day careless riding ban (August 27-28). What had hitherto been a frustrating afternoon for Ryan Moore, with Sir Michael Stoute-trained favourites Tercel and Darshini both well-beaten, finally lifted a little when the title leader steered home Luca Cumani's home-bred Petticoat Lane (13-8 favourite) in the Champagne Joseph Perrier Handicap. The CGA Racing Excellence Handicap went to rising star Jenny Powell and Cinquenta Pasos. ======================================= Jamie Osborne is hoping "fortune favours the brave" after giving Toast Of New York the green light for another trans-Atlantic mission later this month. The three-year-old justified his trainer's faith with a brilliant victory in the UAE Derby at Meydan at the end of March, after which a tilt at the Epsom Derby was considered before connections eventually decided to head Stateside for the Belmont Derby early last month. This is going to be a tough ask for him, but it's worth $1million dollars and if you can't have a bit of fun and enjoy owning horses like him then what's the point? "We know he handles the surface, he justifies a place in the field and it's going to be another exciting trip for us all. "There isn't a lot for him in England or Europe coming up and I've no idea what we'll do with him after the race in California. "We know where we want to be in the next six to nine months and it could be that after he runs at Del Mar he won't run again before he goes to Dubai. "One thing we definitely will be doing is taking him out to Dubai early next year to give him chance to familiarise himself with the new dirt surface. "If it had been the same surface as last year, the Tapeta, we obviously wouldn't need to do that, but the surface has changed and we want to make sure we're in the best position for the World Cup." ========================================== The Ebor Festival at York is next on the agenda for Anthem Alexander after she was taken out of Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday due to the change in ground. The Eddie Lynam-trained filly was a fine winner of the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and was well fancied to follow up at the weekend, only for heavy rain to upset her plans. She holds entries in the Group Two Lowther Stakes and the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes at York next week and both options are now under "careful consideration". Lynam said: "Obviously she couldn't run because of the going. "She has a couple of entries in York next week and we will make a decision over the weekend about what we are going to do. "Both races are under careful consideration. "I've discussed it with her owner and we are going to talk again later in the week." Lynam could offer no excuses for Viztoria after she disappointed in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on Sunday. The daughter of Oratorio was sent off an 11-2 chance for the French Group One but she could only finish a well-beaten 12th under Wayne Lordan. "Viztoria ran disappointingly. We have no explanation for it, she seems fine," said the County Meath handler. "She is well entered up and we will wait and see how she is over the next fortnight or so before making any concrete plans. "It was the first time ever in her career that she ran a disappointing race and, at this moment in time, we have no reason for it. "We basically just have to watch this space and wait and see." ====================================== Kingman is one of eight horses still in contention for the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on Sunday. John Gosden's colt has produced imperious displays in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood to confirm himself Europe's top miler and is set for his French debut. Richard Hannon has left in Sussex runner-up Toronado and his other crack miler Olympic Glory, with the latter seemingly the most likely runner. Clive Brittain's top-class filly Rizeena and the Mark Johnston-trained Bow Creek could complete a formidable British raiding party. Prix Rothschild winner Esoterique, Anodin and Red Dubawi, formerly trained by David Marnane but now with German trainer Erika Mader, are also still in the hat. ========================================= Shergar Cup winner Retirement Plan is under consideration for a tilt at the Betfred Ebor at York on Saturday week. Lady Cecil's Monsun colt finished fourth behind red-hot Ebor favourite Pallasator on his penultimate start at Ascot and took a step up to two miles in his stride when successful back in Berkshire under Canadian rider Emma-Jayne Wilson. The four-year-old could now come back in trip for Europe's most valuable staying handicap on the Knavesmire. Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for owner Khalid Abdullah, said: "We'll certainly take a look at the Ebor. He'd be on the edge of getting in, I would think. "We were very pleased with him at Ascot and it was a good day." Abdullah also has Brass Ring in contention for the Ebor, but Grimthorpe said: "We'll have a look, but I would think it is unlikely he will run. "We're probably looking at something more like the Doncaster Cup for him." The Sir Mark Prescott-trained Pallasator has been all the rage since his victory at Ascot at the end of last month, with the subsequent Glorious Goodwood triumph of the runner-up, Double Bluff, further enhancing his claims. Prescott's Hasten To Add was a winning favourite of the 1994 Ebor, but the Newmarket handler is taking nothing for granted. "He's fine and, mathematically, everybody has worked out he's got a great chance with the way the race at Ascot worked out," Prescott told At The Races. "I sort of feel that logic tells me if everything went right he should win, but something always defies you in those sorts of races." Richard Fahey could be doubly represented with Dr Marwan Koukash runners. Angel Gabrial won the John Smith's Northumberland Plate at Newcastle in June before being beaten at Glorious Goodwood, with Fahey keen to put a line through that run. He said: "I just thought the Goodwood race was a little bit messy, a little bit inconclusive. "Angel Gabrial will also get an entry in the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Lonsdale Cup on the Friday, so we will have a look at both races and make a decision closer to the time. He will be definitely be at York and is in good order." The classy Gabrial would be stepping up markedly in trip should he take his Ebor chance, having never before run beyond a mile and a quarter, spending most of his career at a mile and nine furlongs. Fahey said: "It is a big step up in trip. Marwan is quite keen to have a go. His pedigree suggests he might stay. We'll see what happens." Locally-based Fahey has a real affinity for York, and in particular the Ebor meeting. He said: "It's a big one and always has been - but it's becoming a bigger one. "It's probably nearly as important as Royal Ascot. If it carries on with the progress, it is going to be the most important meeting of the year. "The racing is fantastic and the prize money - I don't know how much it has gone up in the last few years, but it has definitely gone up in the last three years, drastically. It's incredible and hats off to everybody involved. "If you get some winners, it's enjoyable, if you don't, it depresses you! It's the sort of effect it has on you."

16:55 Thursday 14th August Racing Tips - 14/08/2014
Gworn is really tempting earlier on the Newmarket card but there are some progressive types in the field and he may not get the rain required. Jeremy Noseda has a few likely sorts on the day and I like the price about Evident who drops in class from seemingly not enjoying Windsor last time. He had to track across form a wide draw that day and didn't seem to get home after racing prominently. Hopefully he's ridden a little more patiently today as he can win off 75 and Buick back in the saddle, on top for his last win, is a plus. He may require more of a test at this trip and a little more juice underfoot but he should be shorter than 8/1. Newmarket 15.15 - Evident 1pt e/w
Noseda also saddles Outback Traveller and he'll take some stopping should the ground dry out. This is tougher than last time however and he has been beaten by Glorious Empire before. He does have a 7lb pull with the latter but a test at this trip on ground with a little ease in it should suit the strong travelling Ed Walker gelding that little bit more. He is a real looker but can be too keen over a mile and, though he'll probably get 10 furlongs in time, a decent test at 7 will be fine for now. Crowdmania and Captain Bob will hopefully drag them along here and, though the selection is giving weight to the favourite, I think he's the better horse and the better bet at 5/2. Newmarket 16.25 - Glorious Empire 2pt win
Bombardment will be a big danger if allowed an easy lead this afternoon but he surely wants quicker ground to be at his very best, though Kirby said he'd handle it slower after he won on quick at Nottingham. He's not a kick off a crawl type from the front either and is a game battler but Zain Empire is dropping in class form a better race last time and is open to that little bit more improvement now up at a mile. He won despite greenness on debut and his jockey said that day the ground was quick enough. He looked to want a little further last time and Provenance has franked that form since. A 2lb rise shouldn't halt his progression on just a 3rd racecourse appearance at a likely to shorten 9/4. Newmarket 16.55 - Zain Empire 2pt win
Be Perfect is of interest dropped in class over at Beverley but Waterclock may complicate things for him from the front. Beat The Tide is another from a yard going well but with a little rain forecast and a likely decent test, it looks as though Enchanted Garden could have things run to suit. He is in super form over hurdles and was unlucky at Musselburgh here in June. This track may suit that little better and he'll go very close at 9/4. Beverley 16.10 - Enchanted Garden 2pt win

AUSTRALIA will have a new jockey should he run in the Juddmonte International at York next Wednesday, but trainer Aidan O'Brien has warned the colt's participation is far from certain.
O'Brien's son Joseph has ridden the three-year-old in all six starts but he is unable to make the 8st 12lb Australia would carry against older horses in next week's Group 1.
The Coolmore-owned star heads the betting for the International and was on Wednesday cut to 8-13 (from 4-6) by William Hill, but he also has options in next month's Qipco Irish Champion Stakes and the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
O'Brien, who has won York's richest race three times in the last six years, said: "We won't be making a decision about Australia running for another few days. He's being trained with the race in mind, but it's still in the balance if he will travel.
"If he does run Joseph won't be riding him as 8st 12lb is below his minimum. We'll wait until we decide about running before confirming a jockey."
Top of O'Brien's list of replacements would have been Ryan Moore, but he is set to partner 9-2 second favourite Telescope for his boss Sir Michael Stoute, while Jamie Spencer - one of only six jockeys to have ridden a winner in Britain for O'Brien in the last five seasons - will be on the Qatar Racing-owned Arod.
Ballydoyle stalwarts Seamie Heffernan and Colm O'Donoghue are other alternatives.

Kevin Ryan's promising juvenile Flaming Spear is among 21 entries for the Tattersalls Acomb Stakes at York on Wednesday. The well-regarded Qatar Racing-owned youngster was a most impressive winner on his debut on the Knavesmire and holds all the major entries later in the season. There are several other unbeaten two-year-olds entered such as Karl Burke's Glenalmond, Brian Meehan's Growl and Peter Chapple-Hyam's Misleading. Richard Hannon's Basateen, who won by eight lengths on his second start, and stablemate Burnt Sugar, a six-length winner at Lingfield are likely to be major players. Jim Bolger has entered Hall Of Fame, who beat the highly-rated John F Kennedy at Leopardstown last month, and Aidan O'Brien's Jamaica represent Irish interests. Charlie Hills' Dutch Connection, the improving Mattmu, Mark Johnston's Publilia and Ed Dunlop's Prince Gagarin are all in the mix. ===================================== Clive Cox is praying the ground does not go against Es Que Love ahead of the Betfred Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on Saturday. The going was described as good to soft, good in places at the Berkshire track on Thursday and more rain is forecast before drier conditions return on big-race day. Es Que Love landed his first Pattern-race success when lowering the colours of last season's champion two-year-old Toormore in the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood, and Cox is very much eyeing this weekend's Group Two contest. "He's in great form. I'm just hopeful we don't get the upper end of the forecast with the showers," said the Lambourn trainer. "This fella has got a cracking chance, but getting the bottom end of the showers that are forecast would be appreciated." Es Que Love was among a field of seven declared that includes last year's winner Gregorian. John Gosden's five-year-old was only in action on Sunday when he found the heavy ground tough going and he was well-beaten behind Garswood in the Group One Prix Maurice de Gheest. Richard Hannon is doubly-represented with Producer and Professor, but the former was engaged in the totepool Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury on Thursday afternoon. Breton Rock, Chil The Kite and Brazos complete the septet. ================================== Somewhat, third in the Coral-Eclipse and Gordon Stakes on his last two starts for Mark Johnston, is among a field of 11 for Saturday's Betfred TV Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury. The three-year-old defied expectations in the Group One Eclipse at Sandown when employed as a pacemaker and then stepped up in trip at Glorious Goodwood to be beaten a neck and a head on his first run over a mile and a half. He faces another furlong in this Group Three on the way to a possible Ladbrokes St Leger bid. James Fanshawe's Seal Of Approval will be looking to put a dismal run behind her after failing to run to form in the Lancashire Oaks. A winner on Champions Day at Ascot last season, she had made a solid comeback in the Yorkshire Cup against the colts but only beat one rival on Merseyside. Willing Foe, winner of the Ebor in 2012 and the Aston Park on his only run last May, reappears after 455 days off, while Ed Dunlop's popular globetrotter Red Cadeaux makes his return to British action. Richard Hannon's Pether's Moon carries a penalty for his win at Goodwood where he had Cafe Society back in third. The pair clash again. There is a German challenger in the shape of Peter Schiergen's Girolamo, with Camborne, Rawaki, Seismos and Triumphant making up the field. ================================================ Captain Cat opened up a variety of new options after proving his effectiveness on turf in no uncertain terms in the totepool Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury. The last time Roger Charlton's gelding had been seen was on Good Friday, when he netted a considerably larger purse in the All-Weather Mile Championship at Lingfield, but the Group Three feature event of the Wiltshire track's calendar added another layer of prestige. Captain Cat (11-2) had missed a couple of high-profile engagements en-route but showed such a striking change of gear to quicken two and a half lengths clear of the reliable Producer that Charlton could yet be tempted to send him further up the ladder in just nine days time at Goodwood. Yuften, the 6-4 favourite after being demoted from second in the Group One Prix Jean Prat, struck for home from the front but James Doyle and Captain Cat appeared full of running on the wide outside and settled the event with the minimum of fuss. Yuften weakened to fourth. "That was pretty enjoyable to watch, seeing him cruising there on the outside," said Charlton. "Provided he's OK, he could well run in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood later this month (August 23)." Luca Cumani's Afsare successfully doubled up in both events last year and Charlton went on: "He's done very well, he's gone from a rating of 107 to probably 115 there. "We don't really have targets, there could be targets during the winter. Maybe Dubai - he's obviously a valuable horse now." Doyle said: "I was pleasantly surprised how well I was going, he was good today. "He's a horse in his younger years who was tall and lanky, a shell of a horse, but now he's really strengthened up and looks the complete article. "I was little concerned after the (pre-race) downpour but he's very versatile. He's good on Polytrack but he showed he's as good on turf. "He'd handle Goodwood no problem, he's well balanced." Captain Cat's stable companion Sister Of Mercy had earlier given favourite backers a slightly uneasy experience before eventually justifying odds of 8-11 in the Bet totejackpot At totesport.com Maiden Auction Stakes. A strong-looking daughter of Azamour, Michael Pescod's juvenile had made progress in each of her previous outings but was stuck for room when attempting to make her move with over a furlong left. Doyle eventually switched to the inside and Sister Of Mercy picked up at just the right time to pass Who'sthedude by a neck. "I thought I was going to get another odds-on favourite beat," said Charlton. "The jockey felt softer ground and a bit further would help. She was determined, and got there in the end." Brian Meehan's Taghreeb (4-1) ended up the winner of an incredibly tight finish to the Mary Wort Memorial Maiden Stakes, with a nose, short-head and head separating him from Persian Bolt, 8-13 favourite Moonvoy and Song Of Norway. Jockey Dane O'Neill said: "He was very green, I had to get into him to get him travelling. He hit the front, and then he had a look around." Ralph Beckett was thrilled to see Sleeper (7-2) complete a hat-trick in the colours of the Millennium Madness Partnership in the £25 Free Bet At totesport.com EBF Stallions Fillies' Handicap. "It always gives me a kick to see these colours win, they gave me my first two-year-old winner and some of the guys have been with me for 14 years," said the trainer. "Not exactly Highclere, but they're loyal and perhaps long-suffering. "I was a bit worried about running her as it was her fourth quick run in a month but she does very little in her races." Spiraea (11-2) narrowly claimed a third victory of the season in the colours of trainer Mark Rimell in the Bill Garnett Memorial Fillies' Handicap. He said: "She's done us proud, and I really need to sell her now. "We seem to be doing better with our Flat horses than our jumpers now, so hopefully she can keep it going. I think she'll be better with cut, and she's still improving physically as the season goes on." Rod Millman ended up withdrawing Master Carpenter from the feature due to the ground but ended on a winning note with Taws (9-2) in the Kevin Hall & Pat Boakes Memorial Handicap. ======================================= Louie De Palma is unlikely to take up his entry in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes at York on Saturday week. Trainer Clive Cox looks likely to give the youngster a little breathing space following his run in the Group Two Richmond Stakes at Goodwood where he was second to the speedy Ivawood. The son of Pastoral Pursuits, who has a host of fancy entries in the autumn, had won both his previous starts and Cox was pleased with his latest performance against such a smart two-year-old. "He's unlikely to run in the Gimcrack. We're probably going to give him a bit more time," said the Lambourn handler. "I'm pleased with the progress he's made. It was no disappointment to finish second to Ivawood. He's a horse that continues progressing and we're very pleased with him. "We're going to sit tight for a little while, but he's unlikely to run in the Gimcrack. "We'll decide about the trip as we move along." The Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October remains the prime target for stablemate Kodi Bear. The son of Kodiac looked a colt full of promise when opening his account in the Listed Winkfield Stakes at Ascot last month. "Kodi Bear is fine. That was a competitive Listed race he won last time," said Cox. "He's got plenty of size and scope about him. "It's been well documented we intend to take a patient approach with him and that is still very much the plan. "He's a horse we'll be looking towards the Dewhurst with and working back from there." ======================================== Several leading fancies for the Ladbrokes St Leger are set to clash in the Neptune Investment Management Great Voltigeur Stakes at York on Wednesday. Kingston Hill, runner-up in the Investec Derby, heads the 14 horses left in the Group Two at the six-day confirmation stage. However, Roger Varian's charge has also stood his ground for the Juddmonte International on the same card. The John Gosden-trained Eagle Top, winner of the King Edward VII Stakes and fourth in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, as well as Kingfisher from Aidan O'Brien's stable, also remain in both races. Sir Michael Stoute can choose from Gordon Stakes victor Snow Sky and Kings Fete as he bids to win this race for an eighth time. Hartnell, winner of the Queen's Vase and Bahrain Trophy, could try to further enhance his Leger claims for trainer Mark Johnston. As well as Kingfisher, O'Brien's other Voltigeur possibles are Granddukeoftuscany, Indian Maharajah and Red Rocks Point. The latter is one of just two left in the race who do not hold entries in the St Leger. The other is Luca Cumani's Postponed. Marzocco, Observational, Odeon and Red Galileo complete the Voltigeur list. =================================== Connections of improving three-year-old Alex My Boy believe he needs to win the Betfred Melrose Stakes at York on Saturday week to emerge as a lively contender for the Ladbrokes St Leger. Mark Johnston's colt is a son of 2003 Arc winner Dalakhani out of Aidan O'Brien's dual Oaks heroine Alexandrova, yet despite that breeding was picked up for a relative bargain price of £75,000. He only raced once at two and looked primed to come into his own this year and he has won three of his six races this summer. "We just don't know about the St Leger yet," said Bruce Raymond, owner Jaber Abdullah's racing manager. "If he proves good enough I'm sure his owner would like to run him. "He needs to win the Melrose, I'd have thought, to have a lively chance. "One thing I do know is that he's going to be a good stayer in the future, a typical Mark Johnston type - he'll improve as he gets older. "He just needs to warm up in his races, in his one disappointment at Musselburgh he got behind early and was never really interested. Once you get him involved he's fine. "Mark always felt that once he tackled a trip he'd be OK. "He got him for a bargain really, £75,000 for a horse by Dalakhani out of an Oaks winner." ===================================== John Gosden's Western Hymn returns to France for the Prix Guillaume D'Ornano on Friday after an ultra-impressive display on his last venture. The three-year-old High Chaparral colt has only met with defeat once in his life, in the Investec Derby where he finished sixth after meeting trouble in running and Gosden also felt he possibly failed to see out a mile and a half. After a short break he was sent to Maisons-Laffitte for the Prix Eugene Adam when he appeared to relish the soft ground, running out an easy three-length winner from Army Bulletin, who faces him again, and Rod Millman's Master Carpenter. Kept against his own age group again and still in Group Two company without a penalty, Western Hymn travels with strong claims. His main opposition is likely to come from Jean-Claude Rouget's Prince Gibraltar, third in the French Derby and narrowly beaten in the Grand Prix de Paris last time out. He drops back in trip for this assignment. Gailo Chop, who ran in the Belmont Derby last time out, Boookrunner and Nolohay are also among a field of eight. There is also British interest in the other Group race on the card, the Prix de Lieurey for three-year-old fillies. Ed Dunlop's Amazing Maria looked booked for a big year in her Classic season when winning twice at Goodwood last summer, including the Group Three Prestige Stakes. However, numerous scenarios have limited her to just one run in the Investec Oaks when she finished tailed off. She was declared to run in the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, but Dunlop deemed the ground was too firm. "This looks a very competitive race with some highly rated French horses entered," said Dunlop on www.edunlop.com. "Gerald Mosse is booked on Amazing Maria and has won on her before. I'm hoping she likes the ground and I also hope to see the true filly that we saw last year." Charlie Hills' Kiyoshi hinted at a return to the form which saw her win at Royal Ascot last year when second at Ascot to Euro Charline last time. Ralph Beckett's Evita Peron is another to make the journey having won a Newmarket Listed race in straightforward fashion when last seen. ======================================= Kool Kompany will have his next run in the DBS Premier Yearling Stakes at York next week. Richard Hannon has kept the Middleham Park Racing Club flagbearer busy this season but he his holding his form admirably, only going down by half a length to Dick Whittington in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh last Sunday. That was his seventh run of the season but only his second defeat, with his other coming in the Coventry Stakes, his only disappointing run. Wins in the Railway Stakes and Prix Robert Papin are already on his C.V. though, and he will certainly set the standard next week. "The Prix Morny comes up very quickly and the Hannons have two others for that anyway so they have a few balls to juggle," said Tim Palin, the syndicate's racing manager. "We said we'd step aside as we've had our day in the sun in the Group One and after the Morny the next Group One is months away. "The options were Group Twos with a penalty or the sales races. There's a massive pot at York, even if he under performs there's good money all the way down to tenth. "So he'll run in this and then the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes at Doncaster. "He's just thriving and he's bounced out of his race again. With Toormore we were treading on eggshells last year, in a way were scared of him getting beat as we thought he'd done enough to be champion two-year-old. "Kool Kompany is still holding his condition so while he's fit and well we may as well run him."

Race 2 - 5:40pm THE MERCEDES-BENZ OF CHICHESTER HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 4) The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, HOLLOW PENNY, ridden by Richard Johnson and trained by Alan King, compared with its previous run at Market Rasen on 19 July 2014 where the gelding finished fifth of seven, beaten by 75 lengths. They noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that the gelding was suited by the better ground and the shorter trip. They ordered HOLLOW PENNY to be routine tested.
Race 3 - 6:10pm THE ABP SOUTHAMPTON, GATEWAY TO THE WORLD HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) The Stewards considered the running of SUR LA MER (IRE), ridden by Harry Skelton and trained by Dan Skelton, which finished unplaced. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance. They ordered SUR LA MER (IRE) to be routine tested.
Race 5 - 7:10pm THE WINNER EVENTS SUPPORTING THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY NOVICES' HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 5) The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Brendan Powell, the rider of FINISH THE STORY (IRE), from approaching the second last fence. Connections of Disegno are in hurry to firm up plans for the promising two-year-old following his fine effort in defeat last month. Disegno has a raft of top entries The Fastnet Rock colt, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, has plenty of fancy entries, including the Champagne Stakes, the Royal Lodge and the Racing Post Trophy. Winner of a Kempton maiden on his second start, Disegno ran the smart Kodi Bear to a length and a half in the Listed Winkfield Stakes over seven furlongs at Ascot. "He's a nice horse. He's in good form and Sir Michael will be making a programme for him," said Alan Cooper, racing manager for owners the Niarchos family. "Sir Michael is in no rush to run him back. We will just see, take our time and in due course we'll make a plan. "On paper will definitely stay a mile." Connections of Disegno are in hurry to firm up plans for the promising two-year-old following his fine effort in defeat last month.

Mull Of Killough will return to his favourite venue of Newmarket for the Darley Stakes on October 17 after a setback. Mull Of Killough: Newmarket bound Jane Chapple-Hyam's flagbearer ran his usual honest race in the Summer Mile at Ascot last time out when beaten narrowly by Guest Of Honour. As his last five wins have all come at Newmarket, it is no surprise targets there are being sought, with the James Seymour Stakes, which he won along with the Darley Stakes in 2012, also under consideration. A statement on his owner's website, www.invictusracing.com read: "He has had a bout of corns since his great run last month at Ascot and Jane Chapple-Hyam tried to alleviate the problem with a pair of stick-on shoes. "To be blunt, they didn't work, and the latest news is that they have had to come off and he will need around a month to allow his plates to recover fully. That means, hopefully, that he should be back in action for an autumn campaign and the prospect of that has me salivating in anticipation. "The remarkable thing about Mull Of Killough is that you can almost tell the time by him. The timing of his latest bout of corns means that another international foray is ruled out, but maybe that's a blessing as it should enable him to make a return to action in time for the Darley and James Seymour Stakes. Then after another winter break, a tilt for a third Earl of Sefton at the age of nine, looms large as a possibility

15:20 Friday 15th August Racing Tips - 15/08/2014
Shavansky is interesting up in trip at Newbury and he handles cut. He's well handicapped and can cause an upset but there's not a great deal of pace on and there must be a worry as to whether he'll settle. Epsom Hill should win his but favourites have a poor record in the race and I'd rather back Kuda Huraa for the umpteenth time. He has gone well here over sticks and I'm sure this trip on soft ground can bring out the best in him. He didn't seem to like Epsom but put in some solid efforts either side on ground that will have been quick enough and I'm surprised he'd as big as 10/1 for this weakish Class 3. Newbury 15.20 - Kuda Huraa 1pt e/w

Declan McDonogh makes his first visit to Ripon on Saturday and hopes it is the start of a few more frequent visits to Britain.
A former champion jockey in Ireland, he is currently stable jockey to John Oxx but has enlisted the services of former National Hunt jockey Niall Hannity to source his UK mounts.
The pair could get off to a blockbuster start as McDonogh rides the improving Tatlisu for Richard Fahey in the valuable William Hill Great St Wilfrid and Soul Brother for Tim Easterby in the consolation race - two of Ripon's more successful trainers.
"I'm definitely looking forward to it. The Great St Wilfrid is one of the more famous old handicaps and it's exciting to be coming over," said McDonogh.
"I must thank Richard Fahey and Tim Easterby, I'm very grateful for getting two very nice rides there. I've also got a ride for Sally Hall (Altharoos) and George Moore (Lady Yeats).
"I'm hoping to get over a lot more now when there's no racing in Ireland and I'm not needed by Mr Oxx.
"I've got Niall Hannity booking my rides and it just makes sense to come over when I'm not riding at home." =======================================
Ed Dunlop feels Saturday's Betfred TV Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury comes at just the right time as he plans Red Cadeaux's overseas adventures once more.
The popular eight year-old has won over £4million in prize money during a career which has seen him take in races in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and famously Australia.
Red Cadeaux has been second twice in the Melbourne Cup and Dunlop has his sights set on yet another trip Down Under, hoping it will be fourth time lucky.
He has not been seen since running down the field in Japan in May when the ground was very fast, but has been pleasing at home in recent weeks.
Dunlop said: "He ran well in the race last year (second) and that was with a Group One penalty. He hasn't won for a while so he doesn't have that any more, so that is in his favour.
"He's in very good form. We need to remember this is his first run after a long lay-off, but he does go well fresh. His last run was Japan in May and we put a line through that as the ground was very fast and he came back sore.
"This race comes at an ideal time with a view towards going back to Melbourne, but it also comes at a time which means we can fit another race in before we go to Australia.
"We've entered him in a Group One in Germany and there's the Irish St Leger he could run in, too.
"The trip is right, it's a lovely course and I just hope there's not too much more rain.
"Mr (Gerald) Mosse is kindly coming over to ride him for us. It's a competitive race, though, against some race-fit rivals."
Gary Moore saddles Triumphant, who was once second to Camelot in the Mooresbridge Stakes in 2013 but is likely to be seen to better effect with obstacles in his way, according to his dual-purpose handler.
"He can't get into a handicap as he's rated 101 and the only place I can give him a run is in this race," said Moore.
"He was bought really to go jumping, not to be a Flat horse. This is just a start to dust him off.
"We bought him off John Halley and have had him since early June. This horse won over hurdles for him. He was Camelot's lead horse and was second to him on the track once. He shows no signs of being a typical lead horse.
"He's got his work cut out in what looks a good Geoffrey Freer. It looks more competitive than usual.
"He's got a more workable mark over hurdles than on the Flat and he jumps very well at home. Unless he shows something convincing tomorrow he'll go back hurdling afterwards."
Richard Hannon's Pether's Moon finally gained the win his consistent efforts deserved at Goodwood last time out, yet despite that he will run in blinkers for the first time.
"People say we can't train middle-distance horses, but we did win the Geoffrey Freer Stakes three years ago with Census, and, hopefully, we have a major player for it this time around in Pether's Moon," Hannon said on his website.
"He is a solid horse, and, though he has a penalty for winning at Goodwood last time, he is in good form, though the more the ground dries up the better his chance.
"We are trying him in blinkers for the first time, not because he is ungenuine but to help him travel that bit better during the race and make him concentrate at the business end." =======================================
Conditions at Newbury have ruled the Clive Cox-trained Es Que Love out of the Betfred Hungerford Stakes.
Cox had been concerned about potentially unsuitable ground for the five-year-old, who has taken on a new lease of life since joining the Lambourn handler and was a neck victor from Toormore in the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
At his best on a sound surface, he was declared a non-runner on account of the ground following racing at the Berkshire track on Friday.
His absence presents an increased opportunity for Chil The Kite as he bids to get back to winning form for Hughie Morrison after an unsuccessful stint in Dubai.
He won a good pot at Newbury and then finished second under a welter burden in the Royal Hunt Cup and jo ckey George Baker, while acknowledging a step up in class, feels it is well worth a shot.
"It was a great run the last time and hopefully with the step in grade out of handicap company he'll give a good account of himself," Baker told At The Races.
"For whatever reason he never settled into the Dubai way. He was well-behaved, but the style of racing, or whatever, didn't suit him.
"Since he's come back, he's thrived. He's got plenty of confidence being dropped back into handicap company. He needs to step up but I think he's hopefully a horse going the right way again.
"He'll have to be at the top of his game, but he warrants a place in the field, for sure."
Richard Hannon runs two in a race his father last won with the brilliant Paco Boy in 2008. Richard Hughes is on Professor while James Doyle rides Producer, who ran at Salisbury only on Thursday when second to Captain Cat in the Sovereign Stakes over a mile.
The trainer told his website: "Producer is so tough that, though he only ran two days ago, we might well run him again in the Hungerford Stakes, though Hughesie rides Professor, another who would benefit from improvement in the ground. He was brave at Haydock last time, overcoming ground that did not really suit him, and he, too, is in good nick." =========================================
Gary Moore was stuck in traffic on the way to Newbury and missed watching speedy filly Bronze Maquette deliver one of the handler's best Flat successes to date in the Bathwick Tyres St Hugh's Stakes.
An early-season maiden winner at Brighton and eventually back in front in an Ascot nursery last month, the 10-1 chance was pitched into an open-looking five-furlong Listed event for fillies on the advice of Jimmy Fortune.
As 7-2 joint-favourites Blue Aegean and Dangerous Moonlight struggled and finished well out of the picture, Bronze Maquette took off down the middle of the track to score by a length and three-quarters from Al Fareej.
"I left the yard (in Sussex) at a quarter to one, and the M25 wasn't good," said Moore, who engaged Shane Kelly for the ride with Fortune currently suspended.
"I listened to it at the roundabout just outside the course. I started cheering in the car, so I don't know what other drivers would have thought!"
Moore, best known for training Champion Chase hero Sire De Grugy, is not so often associated with high-class Flat horses.
"I won a Group Three in Ireland last year for the same owner (Richard Green) with Dutch Masterpiece, who I still think is a very good horse," he said.
"She's obviously improving and loves cut in the ground. She ran in a novice at Windsor that was won by Kool Kompany, then I ran her in another one at Kempton and that was won by Limato, so the form was there.
"I thought she wanted seven, but it was Jimmy that said to go for this, so all credit to him. I'm not sure what I'll do now. It's probably job done as far as I'm concerned as she's in the Newmarket sales."
Kelly doubled up on Luca Cumani's Blue Waltz (11-8 favourite) in the Al Basti Equiworld EBF Stallions Maiden Fillies' Stakes.
Elm Park represented some very famous colours when pulling an impressive three lengths clear in the Don Deadman Memorial EBF Maiden Stakes. The 9-4 favourite, a promising third on debut at Sandown, is owned by the Kingsclere Racing Club, who use the black and gold silks carried by the Balding family's greatest horse, Mill Reef.
Trainer Andrew Balding is in America, but his mother Lady Emma said: "Steve Woolley, who rode (Elm Park's sire) Phoenix Reach, says this is the nicest horse he's ridden since then. It's the first time I've gone weak at the knees watching a race for a very long time. David (Probert) was very happy, he said it took him a long time to pull him up."
Epsom Hill has put his young trainer Charlie Fellowes into a bit of a quandary after easily following up his recent Thirsk victory as 11-10 favourite for the Punter Southall Transaction Services Handicap.
"It's lovely to have a horse that just improves and improves," said Fellowes. "I'm not quite sure where we go from here. Do I run him again as he's in such good form, or do I think about putting him away for something in the autumn, maybe a race like the November Handicap?"
Epsom Hill carries the unusual colours of white with a red ribbon. Fellowes is led to believe they represent the rising sun, as they belong to Japanese part-owner Takashi Saito.
Katawi (4-1) proved her recent outing at Nottingham to be too bad to be true when cruising clear in the KKA - Highpoint Handicap for jockey Ted Durcan and trainer Chris Wall.
"Chris wasn't sure what happened last time but his horses are flying and she loved the ease in the ground," said Durcan.
There aren't too many basement level events on the Berkshire track but the Christopher Smith Associates Claiming Stakes fitted the bill for Azrur (100-30), whose owner John Fretwell does well with his occasional raids. ==========================================
John Gosden's Western Hymn could finish only fourth behind impressive winner Gailo Chop in the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville.
It was only the second defeat of Western Hymn's career after he finished sixth in the Derby, but he was an impressive winner last time of the Prix Eugene Adam and was expected to go close again.
However, he sweated up very badly and while he briefly threatened under William Buick, he was ultimately well beaten.
The winner had finished fourth in the Belmont Derby when last in action, just in front of Toast Of New York, and he was allowed to set a sedate early gallop under Julien Auge.
Already gelded, the three-year-old quickened clear entering the final furlong to win going away.
The highly regarded Prince Gibraltar finished just in front of Western Hymn in third.
Gailo Chop is trained by Antoine de Watrigant , who said: "My reaction is that we should put him away until next year. But his French owner-breeder still has a percentage share in him so things are a little bit up in the air.
"It would be nice to bring him back in France as a four-year-old, for races such as the Ganay, and then export him to Australia in September next year."
Bawina looked in a different league to her rivals when running out an easy winner of the Prix Lieurey.
The Carlos Laffon-Parias-trained filly was entitled to be a cut above given her exploits earlier in the year. S he finished fourth in the French 1000 Guineas and while only seventh in the French Oaks, she was beaten just over a length.
Back to winning ways last time out in Listed company, she found the step up to Group Three level well within her compass.
Olivier Peslier was content to sit in mid-division before barely breaking sweat, sweeping round the outside to win untroubled from Indian Rainbow.
Ed Dunlop's Amazing Maria attempted to make all, but she remains out of form as she faded tamely in the straight.
Ralph Beckett's Evita Peron fared a bit better in sixth, with Charlie Hills' Kiyoshi best of the British runners, despite being on and off the bridle, eventually finishing fourth. =======================================
Peter Chapple-Hyam is confident Arod is capable of making his presence felt in the Juddmonte International as the trainer chases a third victory in York's Group One feature on Wednesday.
Chapple-Hyam's English and Irish 2000 Guineas hero Rodrigo De Triano, who only recently passed away, claimed the 1992 renewal in the hands of the legendary Lester Piggott, while Authorized turned in a fine display in 2007 to supplement his memorable victory in that year's Derby.
Arod has not yet reached those heights, but was only narrowly beaten in the Dante Stakes over this course and distance earlier in the year and after running a fine race to finish fourth in the Derby, he gained a confidence-boosting victory in a Leicester conditions race last month.
Chapple-Hyam said: "I am very happy with Arod. He did a nice bit of work on Thursday (on the July Course at Newmarket).
"It is obviously going to be a very tough race, but he goes there with a chance and a mile and a quarter is his right trip.
"He will compete and is getting better as the year goes on. He had a hard race in the Derby and didn't stay - the front two (Australia and Kingston Hill) are very good horses.
"Leicester was just to get his head in front and I couldn't fault him since.
"We just don't need too much rain - the faster the ground the better. I don't think we'll get fast ground, but we might get good ground with a bit of luck."
Reflecting on his previous triumphs in the race, Chapple-Hyam added: " When Rodrigo won it was a great day. With Authorized, people were doubting him and he came back and proved he was a good horse. I think it (the Juddmonte International) has been a lucky race for me.
"I love York. It is nice to go there with a chance. It is one of the best tracks - great fun and Yorkshire people come out in force."
Joseph O'Brien has revealed there is still a chance he could ride Australia in next week's race.
Aidan O'Brien's dual Derby hero looked likely to have a new jockey if taking up his engagement as he is set to carry 8st 12lb, with O'Brien junior very rarely seen in the saddle at below 9st.
However, he is keen to keep the partnership intact and told At The Races at Leopardstown: "I might ride him yet. We'll see what happens over the next couple of days. I'd love to ride him."
He added: "He seems in good form. He's going to come on for his first run (after a break since the Curragh), if it's next week. As long as the ground is good and quick, he might take his chance." =======================================
Cursory Glance, unbeaten winner of the Albany Stakes, is among 15 fillies to stand their ground for the Pinsent Masons Lowther Stakes at York on Thursday at the confirmation stage.
Roger Varian's charge looked a smart performer in the making when lifting the six-furlong Group Three and could clash with another winner at Royal Ascot, the Queen Mary Stakes heroine Anthem Alexander.
Eddie Lynam's filly currently also holds an entry in the Nunthorpe Stakes on Friday, as does the David Evans-trained Patience Alexander. Both are owned by Noel O'Callaghan.
Tiggy Wiggy was a neck second to Anthem Alexander at the Royal meeting and has since trotted up by six lengths in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury last month.
Her trainer Richard Hannon also has Osaila, winner of the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot last month. The runner-up that day, the James Given-trained Pastoral Girl, could renew rivalry.
Aidan O'Brien has two possibles in I Am Beautiful and Qualify, while the list of acceptors is completed by Bimbo, Lady Gemini, Publilia, Realtra, She's A Worldie, Sulaalaat and War Alert. =========================================
John Gosden's superstar filly Taghrooda is one of nine remaining possibles in Thursday's Darley Yorkshire Oaks at York.
Her progression this season has been startling, from winning a Listed race on her reappearance via Classic glory in the Investec Oaks.
Connections were then rewarded for taking the bold decision to skip the Irish Oaks in favour of taking on the older colts in the King George And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, where she was ultra-impressive.
She is likely to be a very warm order to maintain her unbeaten record.
Last year's Oaks victor Talent, without a win since Epsom, is one of two entries for Ralph Beckett, who has also left in Secret Gesture.
Godolphin's Tasaday, smart for Andre Fabre last year, has been left in by Saeed bin Suroor after she won her first race in England at Listed level last month.
Aidan O'Brien's Venus De Milo is the only other older horse remaining.
The three-year-old challenge is led by O'Brien's Tapestry, a fast-finishing second in the Irish Oaks with Luca Cumani's Volume just behind. The pair could renew rivalry.
Richard Hannon's Lustrous and Tony Coyle's Lily Rules complete the list. ======================================
Joseph O'Brien feels Magician has plenty going for him as he seeks a second major success in America on Saturday night.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained four-year-old enjoyed his finest hour to date when collaring The Fugue to claim the Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita in November.
The Arlington Million in Chicago is the race connections have now turned to after a disappointing run in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, where he was only sixth to Taghrooda.
"The ground is good and quick out there and it's a mile and a quarter, so we're hoping for a good run," O'Brien told At The Races.
"Quick ground is essential to him really and he hasn't had that this year. The ground was gone for him (in the King George) and I knew after a furlong I wasn't comfortable. We're hoping he can come back to that (Breeders' Cup) sort of form."
Side Glance carries British hopes as the much-travelled seven-year-old bids to improve on his third in this race 12 months ago.
Andrew Balding's globetrotter was third to David Lanigan's former inmate Main Sequence in the Grade One United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park six weeks ago.
"He was third in it last year and he's been a great old servant. He seems to come alive when he does these trips abroad. Hopefully he can go two slots better," said Kevin Darley, northern representative for owners Pearl Bloodstock.
"He's in great form and it could be a big weekend for him. He likes quick ground, which it usually is over there. It's a mile and a quarter, which suits him great and, with a little bit of luck, he could have a good chance."
Smoking Sun, trained in France by Pascal Bary, is another European representative and runs for the first time since finishing second in the Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji in May.
Chad Brown's Real Solution was five lengths behind Magician in ninth at the Breeders' Cup, but was awarded last year's Million in the stewards' room having initially been beaten a head by The Apache.
He has been in good form of late, winning the Grade One Manhattan Stakes at Belmont Park on his latest start.
Hardest Core, Finnegans Wake (Ryan Moore) and Up With The Birds complete the seven-strong field.

Race 2 - 2:40pm THE EAST MIDLANDS DESIGNER OUTLET FILLIES' HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) (A Jockey Club Grassroots Sprint Series Qualifier) James Doyle, the rider of MEANDMYSHADOW, unplaced, reported that the mare was never travelling. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of MEANDMYSHADOW failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 3 - 3:10pm THE GROSVENOR CASINO NOTTINGHAM HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of NARBOROUGH, ridden by Charles Bishop and trained by Mick Channon, which broke well from the stalls and raced freely when restrained to settle towards the rear of the field, before being asked for an effort approaching the one-furlong marker to finish third, beaten a head and one and a half lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer's representative. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated that his instructions were to take his time and ride for luck before producing the gelding and coming with a late run. He added that, having followed COLLEGE DOLL throughout the race, he angled to that runner’s inside passing the two-furlong marker to avail himself of clear running without wanting to fully commit. However, COLLEGE DOLL then shifted left-handed and closed that gap, leaving him disappointed for a clear run, a fact which he reported at Scales. He further added that he then got trapped on the heels of the weakening COLLEGE DOLL, which resulted in him losing additional ground. NARBOROUGH then obtained a clear run near the one-furlong marker, from which point he rode the gelding out hands and heels fully to the line. The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and stated that the ride given conformed with said instructions. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations.
The representative of Mark Usher, the trainer of IGNIGHT, unplaced, reported that the colt was unsuited by the Good to Firm going.
Race 4 - 3:45pm THE WATCH RACING UK ANYWHERE MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) The Starter reported that THREE MMM'S, trained by Roy Bowring, was unruly in the stalls and withdrawn. Race 5 - 4:20pm THE TBA EBF FILLIES' HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3) (BOBIS RACE) The representative of Richard Fahey, the trainer of MISS LUCY JANE, unplaced, reported that the filly was unsuited by the going, which was Good to Firm, Firm in places.
Race 6 - 4:50pm THE FREEDMAN AND PARTNERS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, ORACLE BOY, ridden by Richard Kingscote and trained by William Muir, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer's representative who stated that ORACLE BOY had benefited from being gelded since his previous run and also the application of first-time cheekpieces. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of ORACLE BOY could be reviewed. The Stewards ordered ORACLE BOY to be routine tested.
Luke Morris, the rider of MAD ENDEAVOUR, unplaced, reported that the gelding hung right in the straight.
Race 7 - 5:20pm THE BETFAIR NOVICE FLAT AMATEUR RIDERS' HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) (for Novice Amateur Riders) Miss T Sutherland, the rider of STAR OF MAYFAIR (USA), unplaced, reported that the gelding reared leaving the stalls and lost ground.

The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the colt failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4 - 7:00pm THE 32Red CASINO HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) Andrea Atzeni, the rider of TULLIA (IRE), unplaced, reported that the filly ran flat. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3 - 3:00pm THE bet365 / EBF MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) Paul Mulrennan, the rider of BLACKFOOT BRAVE (IRE), unplaced, reported that the colt faded quickly and he felt there was something amiss, approximately two furlongs out. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination revealed that the colt was sore right hind.
Race 4 - 3:35pm THE bet365.com HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approximately two furlongs out. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, MANTOU (IRE), ridden by Joe Fanning, had interfered with RYEOLLIEAN, unplaced, ridden by Daniel Tudhope, who in turn interfered with SHIROCCO PASSION, unplaced, ridden by Barry McHugh. The Stewards found Fanning in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he had allowed his mount to drift left causing RYEOLLIEAN to check and edge left, which in turn caused SHIROCCO PASSION to check. They suspended Fanning for 1 day as follows: Friday 29 August 2014.
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approximately one and a half furlongs out. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that TRINITY STAR (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Paul Mulrennan had hung left carrying CLEAR SPELL (IRE), placed third, ridden by P.J. McDonald left, who in turn caused interference to RYEOLLIEAN , unplaced, ridden by Daniel Tudhope who in turn caused interference to SHIROCCO PASSION, unplaced, ridden by Barry McHugh. They interviewed the rider and the trainer. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated his instructions were to jump out of the stalls and get a prominent position. He added that he was instructed to make his effort in the straight. He added that the gelding was green in the early stages and he was unable to get a handy position. He further added that as he was staying on in the straight he had hoped to get a run up the rail but was unable to do so. The trainer stated that he was satisfied with the ride given in the circumstances. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations.
Race 6 - 4:40pm POKER AT bet365 HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, LUCKY TIMES, ridden by David Allan and trained by Mel Brittain, compared with its previous run at Ripon on 7 July 2014 where the filly finished last of thirteen, beaten approximately 14 lengths. They noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that LUCKY TIMES broke better and appreciated the drop back in trip to five furlongs. They ordered LUCKY TIMES to be routine tested.
Race 7 - 5:10pm THE CASINO AT bet365 HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) Gary Bartley, the rider of BLACK DOUGLAS, placed fourth, reported that the gelding hung left handed.

Race 1 - 2:20pm THE DON DEADMAN MEMORIAL EUROPEAN BREEDERS' FUND MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 4) (BOBIS RACE) The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of PROPOSED, ridden by Richard Hughes and trained by Richard Hannon, which appeared to be tenderly ridden throughout to finish seventh, beaten some 14 1/2 lengths. They interviewed the rider, who stated that his instructions were to do his best on the colt. He added that PROPOSED is big and backward and broke well, but was running slightly on its nerves in the early stages and he therefore eased it back until it was in a position to be comfortable and get into a rhythm. From half-way the colt was flat out and so he continued to hold it together and push it out to achieve the best possible placing. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, the Stewards noted the rider's explanations. They ordered PROPOSED to be routine tested.

View from the remaining connections ahead of Saturday's Betfred Hungerford Stakes at Newbury. Es Que Love misses the Hungerford Conditions at Newbury have ruled the Clive Cox-trained Es Que Love out of Saturday's Betfred Hungerford Stakes. At his best on a sound surface, Cox had been concerned about potentially unsuitable ground for the five-year-old, who has taken on a new lease of life since joining the Lambourn handler and was a neck victor from Toormore in the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. He was declared a non-runner on account of the ground following racing at the Berkshire track on Friday. His absence presents an increased opportunity for Chil The Kite as he bids to back to form for Hughie Morrison after an unsuccessful stint in Dubai. He won a good pot at Newbury and then finished second under a welter burden in the Royal Hunt Cup. Jockey George Baker, while acknowledging a step up in class, feels it is well worth a shot. "He'll have to be at the top of his game, but he warrants a place in the field, for sure." Richard Hannon runs two in a race his father last won with the brilliant Paco Boy in 2008. Richard Hughes is on Professor while James Doyle rides Producer, who only ran at Salisbury on Thursday when second to Captain Cat in the Sovereign Stakes over a mile. "Producer is so tough that, though he only ran two days ago at Salisbury, finishing second to Captain Cat, we might well run him again in the Group Two Hungerford Stakes, though Hughesie rides Professor, another who would benefit from improvement in the ground. "He was brave at Haydock last time, overcoming ground that did not really suit him, and he, too, is in good nick," said Hannon on www.richardhannoonracing.co.uk.

15:30 Saturday 16th August Racing Tips - 16/08/2014
Nurseries scare the heck out of me but I like 1 in the Newmarket opener. It's a decent race with the likes of Adelasia and Mahsooba but the latter may not like the ground whilst the former is short enough off 82. If Astrelle goes forward then it could mean that Renaissant gets a nice tow into this, though she may go forward herself. The ground should be no problem on pedigree and 7 furlongs is well worth a go given she was outpaced last time. That form, as well as that of her 2nd start, has worked out and she's chucked in off 70 with Cam Hardie taking off 5lb. Snap up 12/1. Newmarket 13.50 - Renaissant 1pt e/w
The Geoffrey Freer has a very likeable favourite in Pether's Moon but first time blinkers are a sign that he's not all that straightforward. Soft ground over this trip may just test his stamina too, especially with Girolamo and Somewhat likely to take them along. Plenty have chances but Cafe Society is completely unexposed at this sort of trip and should never be 20/1. He was staying on behind the favourite last time over shorter and his pedigree suggests a little cut will be fine, though he's yet to try it. I'm certain he can prove himself worth of Group company. Newbury 14.40 - Cafe Society 1pt e/w
The Silver Trophy at Ripon could suit something drawn high given where the pace is likely to come from. Doc Hay finds himself well handicapped and in new headgear over a course and distance where he tasted his last win…off 11lb higher. He has plenty to find on recent efforts but this should be run to suit and 15/1 looks far too big. Polski Max is very tempting too but this is tougher than he's been contesting of late and he's risky. I've backed him a couple of times this term though and can't bear to see him run without a little support off a very low mark at 16/1. Ripon 14.50 - Doc Hay 1pt e/w Ripon 14.50 - Polski Max 0.5pt e/w
Suzi's Connoisseur is on the shortlist today, so too Penny Drops, who looks perfectly drawn. I think Kickboxer is better than he showed last time too but pick of the prices is comfortably Ventura Mist at 25/1. She is well treated on the basis of her 2nd and 3rd efforts this term and the yard are just starting to fly. She has won on soft and good to firm but I fancy she doesn't want it too quick at this trip. She's relatively well drawn with pace on her outside to aim at and was placed over course and distance in a Listed race last term so there's plenty to be positive about. Newmarket 14.55 - Ventura Mist 1pt e/w
The Ripon feature is very open, as it should be. I fancy near side has the edge draw/ pace wise and those in the middle will have to make up their minds. Flyman would be going up had it rained significantly but it's probably going to be a little dry for him. Supplicant comes out of stall 10 so he may go far side but there is pace out of 2 and 5 and he's well treated. He's also 2 form 2 over course and distance and has a very good chance of defying his 20/1 odds. The other to back is Bondesire out of stall 11 who could go either side. She has won over course and distance and a test at this trip with Sam James taking off 3lb should see her go very close at 15/1. Ripon 15.30 - Bondesire 1pt e/w Ripon 15.30 - Supplicant 0.5pt e/w
