FERGAL LYNCH, the rider banned from British racing for the cardinal sin of stopping a horse, has revealed his shame over the part he played in a racefixing scandal that has left him "a disgraced jockey".
Lynch, former champion apprentice and second jockey to Sir Michael Stoute, deliberately stopped the 9-2 chance Bond City from winning a race at Ripon in August 2004 knowing it had been laid to lose by racehorse owner Miles Rodgers, but until now has maintained a silence about an episode that will haunt him for the rest of his life.
In going public ten years on, Lynch, 36, is hoping to be given a second chance.
"I feel a great deal of remorse and regret about what I did and the shame of it still lingers," said Lynch. "I know my reputation in British racing is in ruins and I want to try to repair it. I've done everything I can to prove what I did was a mistake and one I won't repeat."
Lynch is able to ride in other countries and rode a winner at Down Royal on July 25 under the licence he has been granted by the Turf Club. However, the BHA has up until now refused to grant him a licence or even allow him to ride in Britain while the memories linger of his ride on Bond City.
"I'm a disgraced jockey," said Lynch, "and I have to live with that and always will. I'll always be looking for closure and it'll never come. But I put myself in that position so I'm the only one to blame for that. "
Lynch added: "There'll never be closure, and it's my own fault, but I would relish, would really appreciate, a second chance."

It was announced at the end of April that Dunstall Park would be replacing Polytrack with the synthetic surface invented by former Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer Michael Dickinson.
Kate Hills, director of communications for Wolverhampton's owners Arena Racing Company, said: "The jockeys who rode were really pleased and there were loads of good comments.
"Michael Dickinson was there, as was (British Horseracing Authority senior inspector of courses) Nicky Carlisle.
"They are doing another trial on Tuesday and we're looking forward to having our first meeting on August 11."

Henry Candy's exciting filly Alonsoa is on course for a hat-trick bid in the German-Thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. Alonsoa: On target for Newmarket The daughter of Raven's Pass looked the part when making a winning debut at Newbury at the end of June and graduated to Listed class with another impressive display in last month's Star Stakes at Sandown. She will test the water at Group Three level this weekend and Candy is looking forward to seeing how she fares. "She's in good form and assuming there are no problems over the next few days she's an intended runner," said the trainer. "The ground was awfully firm on the July Course over the weekend, so I would like to see a drop of rain. "There is rain forecast, so hopefully that will arrive and I'm sure we'll be fine." Alonsoa is one of 16 fillies in contention for the seven-furlong Group Three. The Godolphin team have course and distance winners Efflorescence (Charlie Appleby) and Winters Moon (Saeed bin Suroor) engaged, while Mark Johnston has Glorious Goodwood runner-up Enlace and Muraaqaba as possibles. Other interesting contenders include David Elsworth's Duchess of Cambridge Stakes heroine Arabian Queen, Kevin Ryan's hat-trick seeker Calypso Beat and Savoy Showgirl from Michael Bell's yard.

Dual Classic runner-up Lightning Thunder is likely to be given the chance to gain a confidence-boosting victory at Haydock this weekend. Lightning Thunder (right): Haydock hopeful The Olly Stevens-trained filly was narrowly beaten by Miss France in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and found only Marvellous too strong in the Irish equivalent. She was not disgraced when ninth in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and was due to run in last Friday's Thoroughbred Stakes at Glorious Goodwood before being taken out on the morning of the race. Stevens hopes his charge will be back on top form for Saturday's Betfred TV/EBF Stallions Dick Hern Fillies' Stakes on Merseyside, for which there are 23 entries. "She didn't run at Goodwood as she hadn't eaten up. You can't take any chances with a filly like her, but she's been fine since," said the trainer. "There is a Listed race at Haydock on Saturday and assuming she is still fine come declaration time on Thursday, I would imagine she'll probably run. "She still hasn't won a stakes race, so it would be great to get one on the board." One horse who did perform admirably for Stevens at Goodwood was fast-improving sprinter Extortionist. Winner of the Coral Charge at Sandown on his penultimate start, the three-year-old was narrowly denied by Take Cover in the King George Stakes and is now set to step up to Group One level in the Nunthorpe at York on August 22. Stevens said: "We were really pleased with him and it's great he's running consistently, which he wasn't last year. "It's a tough ask for a three-year-old to run in the Nunthorpe, but at the start of the year we weren't expecting him to achieve what he has so far this season. "As long as he's well the plan is to have a crack at the Nunthorpe. He's a horse who needs quick ground and he's in at York and in the Sprint Cup at Haydock next month. "After that you would imagine the ground will have gone for him, but he should be a hugely exciting horse next year."

Connections of Moviesta can look forward to the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York with confidence after the sprinter returned to form at Goodwood last week. Moviesta (furthest right): Nunthorpe next Bryan Smart's four-year-old had been in the wilderness somewhat since winning the King George Stakes this time last year. He suffered an injury in last season's Nunthorpe and while his comeback run in the Palace House at Newmarket was respectable, he found the ground too soft in the Duke of York Stakes and the July Cup. However, he was only beaten a neck and a short head in defence of his King George title on Friday, with part-owner Ritchie Fiddes hoping for fast ground at the Ebor meeting. "He ran the same race as last year, basically, but the difference was this time there was a front runner who didn't stop," said Fiddes. "Last year he came through a group of horses that had gone too fast but Take Cover didn't stop. "He's never actually run a bad race when he's had his ground, it was soft in the July Cup and he wasn't 100 per cent fit yet he still ran OK. "He's not got too many miles on the clock and if we look after him he will be around for a few years yet. "All we can hope is that the ground is fast at York, then we'll have no excuses."

They heard evidence from the Clerk of the Scales and the jockey. Alison stated he was adamant he had ridden his 50th career winner last week and was therefore only entitled to claim 3 lbs. The Clerk of the Scales said he had not been able to establish for certain how many winners Alison had ridden and therefore he felt it was prudent for him to claim 3 lbs. The Stewards ordered a report to be sent to the British Horseracing Authority.

JIM CROWLEY has quit his job as stable jockey to Ralph Beckett with immediate effect in order to ride as a freelance, bringing to an end one of modern Flat racing's more enduring partnerships.
Crowley, who has been with Beckett nearly five years, honoured commitments for him on Monday, when the trainer spent much of the day informing owners of the situation, and has another ride for him on Tuesday.
The jockey, who rode more than 250 winners over jumps and has had another 900-plus since switching codes in 2006, said: "There certainly hasn't been a falling out, but after five years as stable jockey I've decided to go freelance. I'd like to thank Ralph, the owners and the staff for all their support, and for giving me the opportunity to ride some lovely horses."
Explaining why the decision had come suddenly, and in mid-season, he added: "It's been on my mind for a while and now felt the time to do it, rather than continuing without having my heart in the job, as it should be.
"Ralph has been brilliant to work for. I've enjoyed my time with him and can't thank him enough."
Crowley did not ride a Group 1 winner for Beckett and that was underlined in last year's Oaks, in which he partnered runner-up Secret Gesture while Richard Hughes won the race on the stable's much longer-priced Talent.
He said: "That was just one of those things and I count myself lucky to have partnered two English Classic seconds for the stable [he was second on Talent in the St Leger]."
Beckett admits frustration at the timing of Crowley's departure but will not be rushing to replace him.
He said: "The timing's not great and I'm going to have to work with two or three agents to hopefully cover things until the end of the season. We'll be using a number of riders, but we'll be using Jim rarely. We have a lot of horses here and I like to have a stable jockey, but I won't be rushing into anything.
"He's an excellent rider and has done a very good job as stable jockey - of that there's no doubt - but there was no contract and he feels it's time to move on." ===========================================

Connections of progressive filly Roheryn are looking forward to testing the water at Pattern level for the first time in Tuesday's Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Give Thanks Stakes at Cork.
The daughter of Galileo was well beaten in her two outings as a juvenile and was only sixth on her return to action at Dundalk, but she has made giant strides since.
After opening her account with an eight-length demolition of her rivals at Wexford, Roheryn edged out subsequent winner Streetcar To Stars in the King George V Cup at Leopardstown and now steps up to Group Three level for trainer Ger Lyons.
David Redvers, racing manager for owners Qatar Racing, said: "All I can say is Ger is delighted with her and reports that she is making good progress.
"We were all ecstatic after she won the Listed race at Leopardstown, as for her to get black type at this stage of her career hopeful marks her down as a high-class broodmare.
"Ger believes she has come forward since then, so we're excited about seeing her run again tomorrow."
The hat-trick seeking Roheryn features in a 13-runner field, with a number of trainers holding multiple chances.
Aidan O'Brien runs Irish Oaks fourth Beyond Brilliance, with his daughter Ana keeping the ride, as well as Dance With Another (Michael Hussey), Just Gorgeous (Colm O'Donoghue) and Shell House (Seamie Heffernan).
Joseph O'Brien partners the Charles O'Brien-trained Coolibah.
John Oxx has a couple of interesting contenders in the blinkered Tarana and runaway Killarney winner Tarziyna.
David Wachman has three runners in Circling (Connor King), Fastnet Mist (Billy Lee) and Leaf (Wayne Lordan).
Tony Martin's Dark Crusader and Edelmira from Dermot Weld's yard complete the field. ====================================
Connections of Moviesta can look forward to the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York with confidence after the sprinter returned to form at Goodwood last week.
Bryan Smart's four-year-old had been in the wilderness somewhat since winning the King George Stakes this time last year.
"All we can hope is that the ground is fast at York, then we'll have no excuses." ===========================================
Dual Classic runner-up Lightning Thunder is likely to be given the chance to gain a confidence-boosting victory at Haydock this weekend.
The Olly Stevens-trained filly was narrowly beaten by Miss France in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and found only Marvellous too strong in the Irish equivalent.
She was not disgraced when ninth in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and was due to run in last Friday's Thoroughbred Stakes at Glorious Goodwood before being taken out on the morning of the race.
Stevens hopes his charge will be back on top form for Saturday's Betfred TV/EBF Stallions Dick Hern Fillies´ Stakes on Merseyside, for which there are 23 entries.
"She still hasn't won a stakes race, so it would be great to get one on the board."
One horse who did perform admirably for Stevens at Goodwood was fast-improving sprinter Extortionist.
"After that you would imagine the ground will have gone for him, but he should be a hugely exciting horse next year." =========================================
Investec Derby fourth Arod could sidestep this weekend's Betfred Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock in favour of a return to Group One level in the Juddmonte International.
Runner-up in the Dante Stakes at York before running an excellent race to finish fourth at Epsom, Peter Chapple-Hyam's three-year-old made the most of having his sights lowered when bolting up in a conditions race at Leicester last month.
Arod is among 17 entries for Saturday's mile and a quarter Group Three on Merseyside, but is far from certain to line up.
David Redvers, racing manager for owners Qatar Racing, said: "He's got the entry at Haydock, but we are also giving serious consideration to the Juddmonte International (August 22).
"The horse has come forward massively in the last few weeks and we've been discussing the options with Jamie (Spencer) and Sheikh Fahad (owner) for quite a while.
"Originally we were thinking we could go to Haydock as a stepping-stone to something like the Irish Champion Stakes, a race we're sponsoring this year, but at this stage I think we are leaning towards York.
"It is all weather dependent as he's a horse who wants fast ground rather than soft.
"He was very hot and sweaty in the preliminaries before he ran in the Derby, which is why we decided to take him to Leicester for a confidence booster and some more experience.
"He seems much more settled and relaxed now, we've always thought of him as a Group One horse and we're keen to give him another chance to prove it before the end of this season.
"Going to Haydock and then the Irish Champion is an option, but obviously the longer we leave it to run in a Group One, the less chance he'll have of getting his ground.
"I think we'll probably sit tight and watch the weather, but York is looking his most likely target if conditions are right."
Even if Arod does not make the journey to Haydock, the Rose Of Lancaster Stakes looks likely to attract a strong field.
Vancouverite and True Story are interesting contenders for Godolphin, while Sir Michael Stoute's Hillstar and Jeremy Noseda's globetrotter Grandeur also feature. ===========================================
Henry Candy's exciting filly Alonsoa is on course for a hat-trick bid in the German-Thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
The daughter of Raven's Pass looked the part when making a winning debut at Newbury at the end of June and graduated to Listed class with another impressive display in last month's Star Stakes at Sandown.
"There is rain forecast, so hopefully that will arrive and I'm sure we'll be fine."
Alonsoa is one of 16 fillies in contention for the seven-furlong Group Three.
The Godolphin team have course and distance winners Efflorescence (Charlie Appleby) and Winters Moon (Saeed bin Suroor) engaged, while Mark Johnston has Glorious Goodwood runner-up Enlace and Muraaqaba as possibles.
Other interesting contenders include David Elsworth's Duchess of Cambridge Stakes heroine Arabian Queen, Kevin Ryan's hat-trick seeker Calypso Beat and Savoy Showgirl from Michael Bell's yard. ===========================================
Richard Hannon's prolific juvenile Kool Kompany is set to be supplemented for Sunday's Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.
The Jeremy colt has won five times from six starts during his debut season, with his only defeat coming when failing to fire in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.
He has since proved that running all wrong with victories in the Railway Stakes at the Curragh and the Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte, and connections are keen to test the water at Group One level in Ireland this weekend.
Tim Palin, racing manager for owners Middleham Park Racing, said: "He is entered in the Prix Morny, but as usual the Hannon team have a lot of good two-year-olds to juggle with the likes of Ivawood, Tiggy Wiggy and Estidhkaar also in the mix along with Kool Kompany.
"Richard Hannon will ring me in the morning with a gallops report, but assuming all is well with Kool Kompany and he's thriving, the plan is to supplement him for the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.
"We could go for the Gimcrack or the Mill Reef with a Group Two penalty, or we could chase the money down the sales race route, but we think he deserves his shot at Group One level.
"I think it costs 20,000 euro to supplement, so if we do supplement him he's going to run and if he finishes third we'll pretty much get our money back.
"Group Ones are only going to get more difficult as the season progresses, so we think now is the right time to have a go and he can always go back down to a Group Two or go for a sales race if he's not up to it."
Eddie Lynam believes fast ground will increase the chances of Anthem Alexander continuing her fine summer form.
The young daughter of Starspangledbanner has already struck gold in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot and is now set to step back up to six furlongs at the weekend.
That is, however, under the assumption that conditions remain on the brisk side at the Kildare track.
Lynam told the Irish Times: " If the ground at the Curragh is good or quicker we will go there very hopeful.
"If it is the slow side of good we will go there with our fingers crossed.
"And if it is soft or heavy we probably won't go there at all.
"Basically, the quicker the ground the better her chance.
"Pat (Smullen) sat on her after the last Leopardstown meeting and was very happy with her.
"She's in very good form but we will just have to see what the weather does with the ground at the Curragh.
"At this time of year it could dry out very quickly.
"If she were to win on Sunday it would be my first Group One in Ireland and it would mean a lot.
"It would be even better if it was at the old Phoenix Park in the '1500' but winning at the Curragh would be great for all concerned with her." ==========================================
Lucida impressed with a winning debut for Jim Bolger and Godolphin in the Frank Kenny Race at Naas.
The Shamardal filly looked to be facing a stiff task on her racecourse bow against market leaders Cape Clear Island and Dandyleekie, but travelled well in the hands of Kevin Manning as the Ger Lyons-trained Dandyleekie took the field along.
Edging to the front over a furlong out, the 8-1 chance kept on well to hold fellow newcomer Compass Hill by a length and three-quarters.
Cape Clear Island was sent off the 4-5 favourite but was one of the first beaten.
Bolger said: "She's good. She has got an interesting pedigree and is related to Helen Street. She seems to have inherited all the best traits.
"For the moment I'll keep her off firm ground but after this I don't think it's an issue.
"She's my only entry in the Cheveley Park and that will be my long-term aim. There could be something in the meantime but there's nothing planned at the moment."
RaceBets introduced Lucida into the Qipco 1000 Guineas betting at 33-1.
Bolger and Manning added to their tally as Parish Boy (9-4) progressed from his Leopardstown fifth first time out to take the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden.
The son of New Approach missed the break in that race won by Convergence but made notable late headway and clearly benefited from the experience as he stayed on strongly from two out to win a shade cosily from Ballydoyle's Order Of St George.
Bolger said: "I thought he would win at Leopardstown. He's a good sort of horse. It will be next year before we see the best of him.
"I would say he will be effective at a mile and I would expect him to stay."
Donagh O'Connor had a day to remember as victory on Miller Beach in the Naas Apprentice Handicap was a first for the youngster on just his second ride in public.
In a tight affair it was the Johnny Levins-trained 5-1 co-favourite who saw it out best, repelling Mezogiorno by a head.
Levins was full of praise for 16-year-old O'Connor, saying: "That's brilliant, it's a special day! I think this young lad is going to be a top-class rider. He's so cool and confident. Even when he is riding work at home his input is invaluable.
"Today is all about Donagh and I'm proud and delighted. I hope now I can keep giving him winners." ===========================================
The Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket in October is the most likely next port of call for Integral following her odds-on reverse in France on Sunday.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old has enjoyed a superb summer, winning the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot before securing a first Group One triumph in Newmarket's Falmouth Stakes.
She was a hot favourite to strike again at the highest level in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville, but had to make do with minor honours in third behind Andre Fabre-trained duo of Esoterique and Miss France.
Chris Richardson, managing director for Integral's owners Cheveley Park Stud, said: "She's finished third in a Group One, so you can't be too disappointed.
"It wasn't what we were expecting, but those four-runner races can do that to you. It was a tactical affair, they split into two groups and it was all a bit of a muddle.
"Ryan (Moore) said we should just put a line through it, so we'll move on and hopefully head for the Sun Chariot." =================================================
Andre Fabre believe Esoterique deserves a bit more respect after her easy victory in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville on Sunday.
The four-year-old beat Sir Michael Stoute's Integral for the second time this season, having already gained a narrow verdict over Cheveley Park Stud's classy filly in the Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket.
Esoterique had disappointed behind Integral in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot but bounced back to her best showing a smart turn of foot to beat her stablemate and 1000 Guineas winner Miss France.
"She had a bad tactical race at Ascot last time. She made the running and that is totally against her style," said Fabre, whose charge could potentially cross swords with Kingman in the Prix Jacques le Marois on August 17.
"She has raced against Integral three times now and that is the second time she has beaten her so I think she deserves respect. She had an interrupted preparation for Ascot.
"Curiously the handicapper had her rated 1lb above Miss France before the race and that is exactly how it turned out, so for once the handicapper got it right.
"Esoterique has a very good turn of foot and Miss France didn't really have an excuse. In terms of the race, everything went right for her.
"Esoterique will now go for the Jacques le Marois at Deauville, while Miss France will wait for September. I've entered both of them in the Sun Chariot this morning so they might come over to England for that."

BHA chief executive Paul Bittar is to leave British racing's governing body at the end of his three-year term early in the new year.
No reason has been given for his departure, although the BHA said Bittar has a number of options he is considering for his next role.
The search for a new chief executive has started and the identity of Bittar's successor is expected to be announced in the autumn.
Bittar was appointed to the BHA role in September 2011. He had previously been chief strategy officer at Racing Victoria, and before that chief executive of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.
BHA chairman Steve Harman said: "Paul has been instrumental in building the foundations for racing's future growth, has established stronger regulation and integrity of the sport and improved its overall health. His wisdom and knowledge of racing matters is hugely valuable and he has contributed much to the next steps of both BHA and racing generally.
"On my arrival in summer 2013, I was delighted that Paul agreed to stay on until early 2015, and by having planned this timing we are in a good position with simultaneous developments with the BHA board, shareholders, executive team and the implementation of the industry's growth strategy. The search for a new CEO has started and Paul's successor will be announced in the autumn.
"Paul, supported by his team, will continue to work hard on some key objectives in 2014, including finalisation of the 2015 Fixture List, the current and forthcoming government consultations on the levy, and support to various aspects of the industry's growth strategy.
"Paul is reviewing a number of options which he is considering for his next role, and I know he will make a big impact in whichever of the positions he chooses."
Bittar arrived at the BHA in the midst of the furore over the new whip rules and was credited with resolving that situation.
He also re-established the BHA's leadership role in commercial matters, while other highlights included the signing of a £40 million voluntary levy deal with Betfair.
However there was criticism of the BHA's handling of the steroids cases involving Mahmood Al Zarooni and Sungate.
Bittar said: "I am proud of what BHA has achieved in the past few years and it will be with some sadness that I will leave early next year.
"Despite its obvious challenges and complexity of structures, British racing is a world class sport to be involved in and it has been a privilege to have held the post of chief executive of BHA as well as lead such a committed team. I love the quality and diversity of the racing staged in this country, I'll never tire of it and nowhere else can rival it in that regard.
"There are many areas in which we have made significant progress. The opening weeks brought the challenge of resolving the dispute over the whip rules, followed by a difficult Grand National. It is encouraging and satisfying that the collaborative approach adopted by BHA with the relevant parts of the industry, and the subsequent steps taken, mean that neither topic has since generated the levels of negative coverage that can impact on the sport's well-earned and good reputation.
"We've consciously sought, and have seen, a fundamental change for the better with regard to our relationship with the betting industry, while our strategy of engagement with government over the funding of British racing has also started to pay dividends.
"Our primary role is the regulation of the sport, so arguably the greatest challenge the sport faced during this period followed the positive tests for anabolic steroids in horses trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni. The gravity of the case warranted swift and decisive action, and in years to come it may well be seen as the catalyst which led to a material change in how racing around the world deals with the threat posed by the use of anabolic steroids. On this matter BHA has adopted, and I am sure it will maintain, a key leadership role in raising standards and seeking robust and rigorous international minimum standards.
"The outlook for British racing is significantly more positive now than it was at the close of 2011 and I firmly believe that the reputation of BHA has also improved. We have created a platform from which the sport can really grow and thrive.
"I'm focused on supporting Steve and the board in ensuring that we achieve a lot before I finish. The back half of 2014 sees finalising of the 2015 fixture list, government consultations on the offshore levy and levy reform, finalising of more formal and collaborative structures with our shareholders, and the next stages of the industry's growth strategy to name a few. I look forward to continuing to work effectively with the executive, board and shareholders on these subjects over my final six months."

Wolverhampton's Tapeta surface drew more praise when it was trialled ahead of the first meeting back at Dunstall Park next Monday. . The new surface at Dunstall Park has been applauded Officials from the British Horseracing Authority were present to see the new surface on Sunday, while Stevie Donohoe was one of the jockeys to try it out on Tuesday. He tweeted: "Just rode work at @wolvesraces the surface rides really well and horses really let themselves down on it, has a bit of spring in it also." It was announced at the end of April that Wolverhampton was replacing Polytrack with the synthetic surface invented by former Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer Michael Dickinson. Kate Hills, director of communications for Wolverhampton's owners Arena Racing Company, said: "It all went really well and they said it's a nice and fair surface. "As Tapeta is an approved BHA all-weather surface, all we had to do was show them that it has been laid safely and rides well. Everyone's happy and we're looking forward to the first meeting back on August 11."

Taghrooda is due to make her next racecourse appearance in the Group One Darley Yorkshire Oaks at York’s Welcome To Yorkshire Ebor Festival on Thursday August 21. Taghrooda remains on target for York Unbeaten in four starts to date, the Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned filly has been one of the stars of the 2014 Flat season with victories in the Investec Oaks at Epsom and against colts and her elders in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot last month. Taghrooda, trained in Newmarket by John Gosden, became the first filly from the Classic generation to win the Ascot summer showpiece since Pawneese in 1976. The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe remains her end of season target but connections are keen to take in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks en-route. Richard Hills, assistant racing manager to Sheikh Hamdan, said: “Taghrooda has been great since Ascot and the plan is to head to the Yorkshire Oaks.” “She has only had four career starts so it makes sense to keep her going and this race looks ideal. “I was very impressed with her performance at Ascot. She has done everything we have asked of her.” The Group One Darley Yorkshire Oaks offers record prize money of £330,000 making it the richest all aged fillies and mares contest in the country, outside of British Champions Day. New Sky Bingo customers get £20 free! The richest-race ever staged at York is the £800,000 Juddmonte International Stakes, the Group One feature of the opening day of the Ebor Festival on Wednesday, and set to feature Coral-Eclipse winner Mukhadram. A winner of the Sky Bet York Stakes in 2013, the colt was last seen putting in a strong performance to finish third behind Taghrooda in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot in July. Hills said of the William Haggas-trained five-year-old: “His run at Ascot was fantastic. He justified his place in the field and we were delighted with him.” “Whether he really stayed the mile and a half I don’t know, but he proved again what a brave horse he is.” “He came out of Ascot well and the Juddmonte International is the plan. I think he goes there as the one they all have to beat.” The Welcome To Yorkshire Ebor Festival takes place from Wednesday August 20 to Saturday August 23 inclusively.

Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam says he was proud to have been associated with Rodrigo De Triano after the dual Guineas winner's death was announced on Tuesday. Lester Piggott wins the 2000 Guineas aboard Rodrigo De Triano. The Japanese Racing Association confirmed that the five-times Group One scorer, owned by the late Robert Sangster, died of pneumonia, aged 25. Rodrigo De Triano had been in the Far East on stud duties, during which time he sired Japanese Oaks winner Erimo Excel, since retiring from a star-spangled racing career 22 years ago. The son of El Gran Senor won nine of his 13 races, with his most noteworthy achievement coming at Newmarket in May 1992, when he landed the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket by a length and a half under Lester Piggott. Two weeks later he again combined with Piggott to take the Irish Guineas at the Curragh. Chapple-Hyam said: "Without a shadow of a doubt, he was the best horse I've ever trained - and the best horse I probably will train. "He wasn't very big, but he was unbelievably tough and he had an unbelievably big heart. "He meant so much to me and I was privileged to have been with him throughout his career. "I didn't think his death would affect me quite like it has done. I'm actually quite upset about it and will raise something in his honour tonight. "I'm sure he was well looked after in Japan. He'll never be forgotten." Rodrigo De Triano also secured top-level victories in the Middle Park Stakes - one of five triumphs in an unbeaten juvenile campaign - the Champion Stakes back at Newmarket and, perhaps most significantly, the Juddmonte International at York in August 1992. Many had dismissed his chances on the Knavesmire after he had only finished ninth in the Epsom Derby and then fourth in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. It was to prove folly, as Piggott's companion gained a definitive advantage a furlong out before defeating Pat Eddery and All At Sea by a length at odds of 8-1, with Derby winner and stablemate Dr Devious only fourth. Chapple-Hyam said: "I think the Juddmonte was his finest hour as people had written him off and he showed everyone, he was superb that day. "Once we found out what the ground was like, I was very confident he'd win." Piggott, then 56, said at the time: "I always thought I'd win. I never think otherwise in this game." His victory in the Champion Stakes was the first for a Guineas winner in the same season since Brigadier Gerard in 1971, and saw him afforded a reception worthy of Desert Orchid at Cheltenham. It was a late decision to run, and Chapple-Hyam said: "That was some performance, especially as he was lame the week before and he was short of work." Rodrigo De Triano's swansong came later that year in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Gulfstream Park, in which he finished last in the hands of Walter Swinburn. Sangster's son, Sam, believes the exceptional chestnut deserves to take the highest rank at Swettenham Stud, from where Rodrigo De Triano was bred by his owner. He said: "He was a horse that really started Pete's career off with a real bang. He was a great horse who was held very dearly to the heart of my father. To win five Group Ones, including the Guineas and the Juddmonte, was some achievement. "He was amazingly tough and reliable. He was such a wonderful horse for us all to be associated with. There are paintings of him all over our houses and, with a CV like that, he was definitely amongst the best we have ever had."

Cheltenham Festival winner Alderwood is none the worse for coming down in last week's Galway Plate. There was plenty of market interest in Tom Mullins' runner, who was the pick of Tony McCoy from a plethora of runners for owner JP McManus. On his first start since October, the Grand Annual winner was brought down by Terminal at the sixth fence of the valuable handicap. "He's back, and he's grand," said Mullins. "He's fit and well, and I'm awaiting instructions. I don't know what they want to do with him yet, we'll see what happens." Kilkenny-based Mullins managed to saddle two winners at Ballybrit, with 12-year-old Fosters Cross turning back the clock in the Lord Hemphill Memorial Handicap Chase and Princely Conn defeating Dermot Weld hotpot Call Vinnie in a bumper. "A couple of winners at Galway and it's a great week," he said. "We only had a small team there. We'll take it race by race with Fosters Cross. "He's 100% and he could go on the Flat, in hurdles or chases. Princely Conn is a horse I'm looking forward to going novice hurdling in the winter." ========================================= The Curragh could come calling for Be My Gal after she secured an accomplished Group Three success in France last Thursday. Roger Charlton's sparingly campaigned filly impressively overcame a strong home contingent to take the Prix de Psyche at Deauville by a length and a half. The three-year-old daughter of Galileo may now remain at that grade for the Dance Design Fillies Stakes over a furlong shorter at the Curragh on August 31. A third visit to France for the Group Two Prix de la Nonette back at Deauville on August 19 is not out of the question, either. Owner-breeder John Deer said: "It was the second time she'd run in a Group Three - she had a bit of bad luck the first time at Chantilly, when she was third - so we were hoping she'd run well. "She's a big filly who is lightly raced so you'd think she'd improve for it. "She's in at the Curragh, which is an option, and there's also a race at Deauville that we are thinking about. "Looking at her pedigree, she's out of quite a fast family so I'd personally be inclined to drop her in trip. "Then again, Frankie Dettori seemed to think she'd get a mile and a half at Deauville, so that's a nice problem to have." ========================================== Roger Charlton's Pretty Polly Stakes winner Thistle Bird has been retired to stud due to injury. At the top of her game at the fairly advanced age of six, the Selkirk mare won eight of her 20 starts, including consecutive victories in the Group Three Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom and three Listed events. Her final start was that maiden Group One win at the Curragh at the end of June, and she will head to the Rothschild family's stud in Buckinghamshire. "Thistle Bird has been retired and she will be returning home to Waddesdon Stud in the next few days," the trainer told www.rogercharlton.com. "The injury that she picked up a few days before the Nassau Stakes will take time to heal and very sensibly her owner Lady Rothschild has decided not to risk her on a racecourse again. "She has been a very tough and consistent mare and she has always fought so hard in all of her 20 races. "Her lad Jeta Ram has cared for her every need with great pride and he has 'sat and suffered' on her for four seasons and he deserves a special mention. We look forward to her children coming to school at Beckhampton in due course." ========================================== Top-class hurdler The New One is to follow a similar course to last season and is expected to reappear early in the jumps season proper. On his first campaign outside novice company, Nigel Twiston-Davies' gelding opened his account by thrashing Rock On Ruby in a Listed event at Kempton. He went on to finish third in the Champion Hurdle and enjoy Grade One success at Aintree. "He's back and cantering away," Twiston-Davies told At The Races. "The plan is the same as last year, to start off at Kempton in October as long as the ground's OK." ======================================= Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam says he was proud to have been associated with Rodrigo De Triano after the dual Guineas winner's death was announced on Tuesday. The Japanese Racing Association confirmed that the five-times Group One scorer, owned by the late Robert Sangster, died of pneumonia, aged 25. "There are paintings of him all over our houses and, with a CV like that, he was definitely amongst the best we have ever had." ========================================= The Wow Signal will miss the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday. John Quinn's unbeaten Coventry Stakes scorer was set to chart a route from North Yorkshire to Ireland but scoped dirty after a workout on Tuesday morning. Quinn said: "He can't run at the weekend, which is obviously disappointing, but it's not the end of the world." He added: "He scoped dirty this morning, so we'll have to backtrack a bit. "We were very pleased with him in his work this morning, but th ese things can clean up quite quickly so we should get him back soon enough. "We'll have a look at the Morny (Deauville), but there's also races like the Middle Park and the Dewhurst (both at Newmarket) to think about." The Wow Signal, who was purchased by Al Shaqab Racing following a runaway Ayr success on debut, had been the second-favourite in the betting behind exceptional Queen Mary winner Anthem Alexander. Kool Kompany has been supplemented for the Group One over six furlongs in what still looks a white-hot renewal of the coveted sprint. Richard Hannon's talented youngster was added to the field at a cost of 20,000 euro after claiming big-race honours in the Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte last month. He had previously won the Railway Stakes at the Curragh on June 28. As many as 12 other rivals, and Kool Kompany's stablemate, Tiggy Wiggy, could stand in his way. English interests could be further spiked by the presence of Ahlan Emarati and Mind Of Madness, trained respectively by Peter Chapple-Hyam and David Brown. Aidan O'Brien must choose from Dick Whittington, Rule The Waves, The Great War, War Envoy, I Am Beautiful and Simply A Star. The unbeaten Beach Belle, trained by Kevin Prendergast, is still in the hunt, as is Cappella Sansevero from Ger Lyons' yard and Johnny Murtagh's Kasbah. Anthem Alexander is the 11-8 market leader with Paddy Power. ========================================= Edelmira produced a most impressive performance in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Give Thanks Stakes at Cork. Unraced as a two-year-old and a good winner of her maiden at Tipperary in April, the Dermot Weld-trained filly was only sixth to Venus De Milo - who won this race 12 months ago - when favourite for the Munster Oaks over course and distance last time out. She showed that running to be all wrong as Pat Smullen produced her to swamp the field at the furlong pole, powering clear to beat Dark Crusader by three and a quarter lengths for Group Three honours, with Shell House in third. Tarana was sent off the 9-4 favourite and got to the front at the halfway marker from her wide draw, but while she had a clear advantage three furlongs out her exertions began to tell although she kept on to be fourth. Weld's son Kris said of the Aga Khan-owned 6-1 winner: "It was disappointing the last day when conditions were all against her, (soft) ground is the key to her. "She quickened up nicely today and she'll run in a Group Two at Longchamp on Arc weekend for fillies and mares (Prix de Royallieu) - she'll more than likely get her ground there." Smullen said: "I was adamant after the last day that she couldn't let herself down on the firm ground. She showed the turn of foot today she showed at Tipperary. She's a smart filly, but ground dependent. "I was very impressed with the way she picked up and all these Aga Khan-type fillies seem to improve." The Ger Lyons-trained Roheryn was a significant non-runner due to the rain-softened ground. Lyons had earlier seen Brendan Brackan justify short-priced favouritism in the Listed Platinum Stakes. In a race depleted by four non-runners, the Group Three winner controlled matters from the front in the hands of Colin Keane. Running for the first time in the colours of new owners Qatar Racing, the 4-9 market leader was briefly threatened by Witches Brew but in the end proved too strong and was good value for a three and a half length call. Lyons said: "I thought he was better going right-handed with a tiny bit of juice, but not firm. If he had that juice, I think he'd have held on in the Ballycorus Stakes (narrowly beaten in third). Colin said he was just idling in front. "It's a very important win, as I asked Sheikh Fahad to buy him back at the sales. "He'll run in the Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown and he'll go pot hunting for his new crew. "He has some r eally fancy entries and they are going to have fun with him. "He's a good horse, a rock-solid Group Three horse, but we'll need all the luck in the world when he steps up. "I'd like to thank Sheikh Fahad for buying him." ======================================== Treve enjoyed a beneficial workout for the first time on turf since her bruising Royal Ascot experience when she covered a mile on the Chantilly gallops on Tuesday morning. Trainer Criquette Head-Maarek was deeply satisfied to get last season's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner back on a grass surface as the filly continues her rehabilitation from pulled muscles sustained during the Prince of Wales's Stakes, in which she finished third, on June 18. Head-Maarek said: "She worked this morning for the first time on the turf since she was last seen on a racetrack. "She covered a mile in a good tempo, but it was only a light canter, nothing too serious. "Even so, it was an important day for her and she looks to have enjoyed herself. "We have had a lot of rain in Chantilly so the ground was perfect for her. "The horse was pleased to get out racing as she has been waiting for a long time." Treve will be brought along with tender handling ahead of a repeat bid for the Arc on October 5, though the signs, at least at this early stage in her recovery, are promising. The Al Shaqab Racing-owned filly will, however, not be risked on a racecourse until Arc trials day at Longchamp on September 14. Her primary goal before the main event has long been been the Prix Vermeille, which she easily won last autumn, although her trainer is also considering allowing Treve to take on the colts in the Prix Foy. Head-Maarek said: "We will build her up very slowly. "The Vermeille is still the plan, but we will look at the other race for older horses (Prix Foy), too. After that it will be the Arc, we hope. "There is a long way to go, but we think we can get her back to how she was last year." Treve would perhaps need to equal her destructive performance in last season's renewal if she is to become the first horse to win consecutive Arcs since Alleged in 1977-78. Despite having splendidly won the race by five lengths last October, the four-year-old daughter of Motivator is only joint-third in the betting alongside Australia, with Taghrooda and Sea The Moon jostling for favouritism in what could be an epic encounter. =========================================== Mukhadram will bid to return to the Group One spotlight in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York on August 20. William Haggas' five-year-old finally hit the mark at the highest level when claiming the Coral-Eclipse and put in another bold show at Ascot when third to fellow Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum representative Taghrooda in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Mukhadram landed the York Stakes on the Knavesmire last summer and the owner's assistant racing manager Richard Hills said: "His run at Ascot was fantastic. He justified his place in the field and we were delighted with him." He added: "Whether he really stayed the mile and a half I don't know, but he proved again what a brave horse he is. "He came out of Ascot well and the Juddmonte International is the plan. I think he goes there as the one they all have to beat."

16:40 Wednesday 6th August Racing Tips - 06/08/2014
Two progressive 3 year olds dominate the betting for the Pontefract feature and rightly so. There's a fair bit of pace on, which will not help Only Orsenfoolsies dictate, and will play into the hands of the sometimes keen going sorts at the head of the market. Of them, I'd have Hidden Gold favourite, who's likely to be dropped in and will appreciate a stern test at the trip. A 4lb hike for her win last time looks fair an she should come out on top here if continuing the same level of improvement from race to race at 3/1. The favourite won as he should last time and, while he too will appreciate a strong pace and probably has the better form on paper, he does lack a little tactical speed and may be wanting further. Pontefract 15.40 - Hidden Gold 2pt win
The Veterans handicap is tricky but the strongest piece of form comes from the Jacob Black race 10 days or so ago and that sees True Pleasure and Naoise reoppose. The latter can be keen and will want a stronger pace than looks likely here. The former will likely be held up and that's not ideal given the lack of pace but she has won when racing prominently and connections might/ should opt for those tactics here. Either way, her last time out form should be good enough to take this at 5/1. The worry is Kiwi Bay who may get the run of things and is dropping in class but 7/2 is too short about a horse with his profile. Pontefract 16.40 - True Pleasure 1pt win

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has today informed Fergal Lynch that it has lifted the restriction preventing him from riding in Great Britain and he has been granted permission to ride under BHA Rules of Racing as an overseas jockey, initially for a probationary period. The decision to lift the restriction was made by BHA and followed the receipt of an application from Lynch, together with extensive written submissions, and subsequent interviews with Lynch and his representatives. The lifting of this restriction will be subject to on-going review and is for an initial one year period. In addition, BHA has imposed, and Lynch has agreed to, several conditions which must be adhered to in order for Lynch to continue to be permitted to compete in Britain, as follows: That Lynch satisfactorily participates in a BHA integrity education video. That Lynch’s first ride is at a time and date agreed with BHA. The proposed date for this return, subject to condition 1 being satisfactorily delivered, is Monday 11 August at Ayr racecourse. That Lynch participates in the on-going delivery of BHA education programmes and educational material. Details of this programme and the timing of its commencement will be agreed in due course. The BHA reserves the right to withdraw this permission, in the event that Lynch is charged with any integrity-related breach of the Rules of Racing, or if the conditions set out above are not met. As an overseas jockey, Lynch will continue to ride predominantly in other jurisdictions. Adam Brickell, Director of Integrity, Legal and Risk for BHA, said: “The decision to allow Fergal Lynch to return to riding in Great Britain was one which was not straightforward and one we gave a lot of consideration to. We were aware that we had to balance the reputation of the sport against assessment of the individual merits of his application. “In this case we have reached the conclusion that it would be fair and reasonable to permit Lynch to ride in Britain, based on the merits of his case. “Lynch has shown through his application and subsequent interviews that he has satisfactorily addressed the concerns raised by the Licensing Committee when it refused to grant him a British licence in 2011. “He has demonstrated that he understands the gravity of his offences and the impact they had on British racing. He accepts the severity of the fine and sanctions that were imposed upon him and the consequences that they had on his career, and he has shown that he possesses the qualities to abide by the rules of other jurisdictions during his time riding in Ireland and overseas. We have been encouraged by the open manner of his engagement with the BHA during the course of the application. “We also noted Lynch’s enthusiasm for helping others learn from his mistakes, which we will utilise as we look to further modernise our approach to integrity education, especially for younger riders. He has also acknowledged publicly his past mistakes, the level of his culpability, and expressed his contrition. “It is now 10 years since Fergal Lynch committed those offences and he has paid a price for his mistakes. While the passage of time in its own right does not impact on such a decision, the manner in which Lynch has conducted himself in that period is important. Lynch has satisfied us during the course of his application that he has successfully reformed his character and that subject to the agreed conditions, he should be allowed the opportunity to race ride in Britain once again. “BHA has shown in recent years that those who seek to undermine the integrity of the sport will be dealt with severely through the disciplinary process. This case is a matter of assessing Lynch’s personal qualities, and recognising but not seeking to further punish previous behaviour. That assessment has led us to the conclusion that it is now fair and reasonable to permit Lynch to ride in Britain.” Notes to Editors 1. If Lynch decides he would like to ride predominantly in Great Britain, he would be required to submit an application for a Jockey’s licence with BHA. Lynch has agreed that no such application would be made before one year, or following the review of his being granted permission to ride in Britain. 2. Whilst Lynch’s current restriction has been lifted, this is without prejudice to the determination of any future application he may make with the BHA, and that any application submitted would be considered on its merits, within the framework set out for Jockeys’ Licences in the Guidance Notes. 3. Timeline: In July 2009, following a plea-bargain from Lynch, the Disciplinary Panel imposed upon him a fine of £50,000 and directed that he should not apply for a licence to ride in Britain, or attempt to ride in Britain on an international licence, for 12 months. Full details of the decision and reasons of the Disciplinary Panel can be found here: www.britishhorseracing.com/resource-centre/disciplinary-results/disciplinaryappeal-hearings/disciplinary/?result=535a3054b33ebfaa5320ec2f. Prior to the Disciplinary Panel ruling Lynch had been riding in the United States, but following the Panel’s finding the licensing authority at the Philadelphia Park track where he had been riding decided it would not approve him as a jockey unless he obtained a British licence. In October 2010 Lynch made an application for a Jockey’s licence in Great Britain. A Licensing Committee hearing was held on 28 February 2011 to consider the matter and the Licensing Committee rejected the application. The full reasons of the Committee can be found here: www.britishhorseracing.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Fergal-Lynch-9-March-2011.pdf. In Spring 2011 Lynch was granted a licence to ride in Spain. In May 2011 the Irish Turf Club then granted Lynch permission to ride a horse at Killarney on his Spanish licence. Between September and November 2011 Lynch also rode in France and Germany on his Spanish licence. In November 2011 Lynch moved back to the United Kingdom and began to ride more regularly in Ireland, still on his Spanish licence. In March 2012 Lynch applied for a Jockey’s licence in Ireland and in April 2012 this application was accepted with the condition that he could only ride in Ireland and Spain for a probationary period. Permission was subsequently given by France in October 2012. In May 2012 Lynch moved to Ireland to take up a role as stable jockey for David Marnane. On 12 December 2012 the Irish Turf Club granted Lynch a full Jockey’s licence which lifted all restrictions on where he was able to ride. In January 2013 Lynch was granted a licence to ride in the United Arab Emirates. Although licensed elsewhere, Lynch has until now been prevented from riding in races held under BHA Rules of Racing in accordance with Rule (A)65.

Australia, Cirrus Des Aigles and Taghrooda feature among a stellar list of 37 entries for the QIPCO Champion Stakes at Ascot in October. Cirrus Des Aigles could take in a fourth Champion Stakes With a total prize fund of £1.3million, the prestigious event is the richest mile and a quarter race in Europe. Cirrus Des Aigles is set for his fourth appearance in the Group One contest, having claimed victory in 2011 and chased home Frankel and Farhh respectively in the last two renewals. Corine Barande-Barbe's stable star has not been seen in competitive action since suffering an injury when winning the Coronation Cup at Epsom in early June, but is on the road to recovery. "Cirrus des Aigles is fine, he has recovered well from the injury that he sustained at Epsom on Derby Day, demonstrating his usual courage," said the trainer. "He has come back into training and we are just starting to work him again, although we are doing everything very slowly and taking our time with him. "I would like to get him back for the Prix Dollar at Longchamp on the day before the Arc and if everything goes well there, it would be great to run him in the Champion Stakes for a fourth time." Dual Derby hero Australia and Oaks and King George heroine Taghrooda would be major contenders if lining up on October 18. Others to catch the eye include Dubai World Cup victor African Story, multiple Group One winner Al Kazeem and Coral-Eclipse winner Mukhadram.

Last year's winner Seal Of Approval is among 39 entries for the QIPCO British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes at Ascot in October. Seal of Approval could attempt to reprise last year's victory James Fanshawe's filly was an impressive winner of the Group One contest in 2013 and although she failed to fire in Haydock's Lancashire Oaks on her most recent appearance, the trainer expects his filly to return to form in the near future. Fanshawe said: "All season we have been working back from the QIPCO British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes with Seal Of Approval as it is such a fantastic prize to win. "We were a little disappointed with her at Haydock last time out, but she has really started to come to herself since then and we are hoping to run her in the next two weeks." Tim Vestey, her owner and breeder, said: "As a small owner/breeder with only two horses in training, to have one of them good enough to run in, let alone win by four lengths was way beyond our dreams. "Seal Of Approval's amazing triumph that afternoon was so special, a moment that we will treasure for the rest of our lives and it would be wonderful if she was able to try to defend her crown." The last two Investec Oaks winners Taghrooda and Talent are in contention, while last year's Irish Oaks heroine, Chicquita, is also engaged for Aidan O'Brien. Other Group One winners include Ambivalent and Just The Judge, as well as John Gosden's Nassau scorer Sultanina and her Lancashire Oaks-winning stablemate Pomology. Don't miss your favourites run - set up a tracker with My Stable. Eddie Lynam's multiple Group One-winning sprinters Slade Power and Slade Power are among 61 entries for the QIPCO British Champions Sprint. The Tom Hogan-trained Gordon Lord Byron is another leading contender for Ireland, while Robert Cowell's Intrinsic looks set to step up in grade after his triumph in last weekend's 32Red Cup at Glorious Goodwood. Cowell said: "Intrinsic is absolutely fine after Goodwood, he has come out of the race really well and looks wonderful. "We could run him again quickly or wait until he is fresh, it wouldn't matter with him. "The QIPCO British Champions Sprint is a strong possibility and I will be having a long chat with his owner, Malih al Basti, probably at the weekend, to map out a course of action for him." The last two Gold Cup winners who finished first and second in this year's race, Leading Light and Estimate, stand out among 62 entries in the £300,000 QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup, which now carries Group Two status. Royal Diamond, Harris Tweed and Eye of The Storm, who made up the one-two-three in this race last year, are in the mix again, while the first three home in the Goodwood Cup, Cavalryman, Ahzeemah and Brown Panther, also hold entries. Michael Owen, part-owner of Brown Panther, said: "We'll be contemplating races abroad for him, but British Champions Day has to be a huge option for him. "He won at Royal Ascot a couple of years ago and ran a brilliant race in the Gold Cup in June, not to mention his good effort in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes when beaten by Danedream. "He relishes the track and he'd get perfect conditions." Rite of Passage, who won the Gold Cup in 2010 and claimed this race in 2012, since when he has not raced, is also engaged. Others to note are Hartnell, Investec Derby third Romsdal, Pale Mimosa and the globetrotting Red Cadeaux, who has been runner-up in the Emirates Melbourne Cup twice.

Next month's Irish St Leger at the Curragh remains the most likely next port of call for Encke following his hugely encouraging return to action at Glorious Goodwood. Encke could head to the Curragh The five-year-old denied Camelot the elusive Triple Crown when clinching the St Leger at Doncaster in 2012, but was forced to miss the following campaign as one of the most high-profile horses involved in the Mahmood Al Zarooni drugs scandal. Returning from a near two-year absence and making his debut for trainer Charlie Appleby, Encke finished a clear second behind Pether's Moon in the Glorious Stakes last Friday and is reported to have taken those exertions well. Appleby said: "With a horse like him who has just had his first run after such an extended lay-off, the important thing is to see how he is for the next few weeks, but the Irish St Leger is definitely in our thoughts. "He'll also be given an entry in the Grand Prix de Deauville (August 31) and if he were to come to hand quickly, we will look at that, but I would think it is probably more likely we'll wait for the Irish Leger, as long as conditions suit. "I think a galloping track like the Curragh would definitely suit him, so we will see how things progress. "I couldn't be happier with how he has come out of Goodwood at this stage, he's back in light exercise and that will gradually increase over the next few weeks. "The most important two boxes to be ticked were that he still has the enthusiasm and the ability, and he did that, so hopefully we can move forward from here."

Chepstow's fixture on August 14 has been given the go-ahead, but racing will only be staged on the round course at the Monmouthshire circuit.
Richard Linley, British Horseracing Authority senior inspector of courses, was happy with what he saw following a Wednesday inspection, though the straight course is still not in a fit enough state to stage competitive races.
The original races at Chepstow over five and eight furlongs have been abandoned and three new races have been added to the card.
Jim Allen, racing director at Arena Racing Company, said: "We are pleased with the improvement shown with the turf and delighted to be racing next Thursday.
"We would like to thank the BHA for their assistance in ensuring this fixture can go ahead."
Chepstow's meetings on July 25 and August 6 were transferred to Lingfield due to surface issues involving nematodes, which are microscopic organisms that feed on the roots of plants. ========================================
James Tate is weighing up the next plan of attack with Ruwaiyan following his excellent effort in defeat at Glorious Goodwood last week.
The five-year-old was campaigned over distances as far as a mile and a quarter during his days with Godolphin, but has gradually been dropped in trip by his current trainer.
After finishing a close second on his six-furlong debut at Newcastle, the five-year-old was pitched into one of the most competitive handicaps of the season in the 32 Red Cup, better known as the Stewards' Cup, and was beaten just two lengths into fourth.
Tate feels the result may have been even better had Ruwaiyan been better drawn.
"We were pleased with the run and you do wonder what might have happened if we had followed the winner," said the trainer.
"We followed the favourite, Muthmir, because of where we drawn and you wonder where we might have finished if we'd been drawn nearer Intrinsic.
"He's come out of the race well and he has loads of options now, so it is just a case of trying to pick the right race for him.
"He's entered at the Curragh, Baden-Baden and Deauville and then there are races like the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon and the Ayr Gold Cup to consider.
"Hopefully we can pick the right race, we get the luck of the draw and a bit of luck." ===========================================
Next month's Boomerang Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown is a potential target for Toormore after last season's champion juvenile got his career back on track with an encouraging run in defeat at Glorious Goodwood.
Richard Hannon's three-year-old rounded off an unbeaten two-year-old campaign with victory in the National Stakes at the Curragh last September, but since making a winning return in the Craven Stakes, he has failed to live up to expectations this term.
Toormore was well beaten in both the 2000 Guineas and the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and while he suffered an odds-on reverse in last week's Lennox Stakes, his neck defeat to Es Que Love was at least a step in the right direction.
Tim Palin, racing manager for owners Middleham Park Racing, said: "It was good to see him run his race. He'd been in the wilderness a little bit on his previous two runs, so it was heartening to see the real Toormore again.
"A really slowly-run seven furlongs on a tight track like Goodwood probably found him out. I think he probably underachieved about 5lb because of the way the race was run.
"I think ideally he wants a mile and there are a few options for him.
"The Celebration Mile has been mentioned, but that comes up quite quick on August 23 and he's a horse who probably prefers about a month between his races.
"He's in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury, but I don't think he'll be going there over seven furlongs.
"The two races that jump out at you are the Boomerang Stakes (formerly Solonaway Stakes, September 13) on Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown, a Group Two over a mile, and the Prix Daniel Wildenstein on Arc weekend at Longchamp.
"We might also stick in the Prix de la Foret, even though it's seven furlongs, just in case the race cuts up and the ground is soft."
Another Middleham Park runner who ran with credit on the Sussex Downs last week was G Force.
The three-year-old finished outside the first three for the first time in his career, but was not beaten far into fifth in the King George Stakes and is now set to step up to Group One level in the Nunthorpe at York on August 22.
"The plan is to go for the Nunthorpe and then the Abbaye," said Palin.
"There isn't too much difference between the Group Three sprints and the Group One sprints, you're facing pretty much the same horses.
"He deserves his chance and I think he's a horse who will strengthen up into an even better horse next season." =======================================
Mick Channon has not yet made a final decision on whether recent Newbury winner Amralah will turn out for Saturday's Betfred Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock.
Placed at Newmarket and Sandown earlier in the campaign, Amralah opened his account for the year with a determined short-head triumph over Vancouverite in Newbury's Doom Bar Stakes, with the runner-up also entered at Haydock.
Channon plans to consult owner Prince Faisal before deciding whether to send his four-year-old to Merseyside or wait for the Group Three Prix Gontaut-Biron at Deauville on Saturday week.
"I've got to speak to the owner yet but Amralah is a possible (for Haydock). He is also entered for a race in France and I don't know which way the owner wants to go," said Channon. ============================================
Last year's winner Seal Of Approval is among 39 entries for the Qipco British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes at Ascot in October.
James Fanshawe's filly was an impressive winner of the Group One contest in 2013 and although she failed to fire in Haydock's Lancashire Oaks on her most recent appearance, the trainer expects his filly to return to form in the near future.
Fanshawe said: "All season we have been working back from the Qipco British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes with Seal Of Approval as it is such a fantastic prize to win.
"We were a little disappointed with her at Haydock last time out, but she has really started to come to herself since then and we are hoping to run her in the next two weeks."
Tim Vestey, her owner and breeder, said: "As a small owner/breeder with only two horses in training, to have one of them good enough to run in, let alone win by four lengths was way beyond our dreams.
"Seal Of Approval's amazing triumph that afternoon was so special, a moment that we will treasure for the rest of our lives and it would be wonderful if she was able to try to defend her crown."
The last two Investec Oaks winners Taghrooda and Talent are in contention, while last year's Irish Oaks heroine, Chicquita, is also engaged for Aidan O'Brien.
Other Group One winners include Ambivalent and Just The Judge, as well as John Gosden's Nassau scorer Sultanina and her Lancashire Oaks-winning stablemate Pomology.
"The Qipco British Champions Sprint is a strong possibility and I will be having a long chat with his owner, Malih al Basti, probably at the weekend, to map out a course of action for him."
The last two Gold Cup winners who finished first and second in this year's race, Leading Light and Estimate, stand out among 62 entries in the £300,000 QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup, which now carries Group Two status.
"He relishes the track and he'd get perfect conditions."
Rite of Passage, who won the Gold Cup in 2010 and claimed this race in 2012, since when he has not raced, is also engaged.
Others to note are Hartnell, Investec Derby third Romsdal, Pale Mimosa and the globetrotting Red Cadeaux, who has been runner-up in the Emirates Melbourne Cup twice. ============================================ Miss France appears the most likely of Andre Fabre's three entries to run in the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on October 4.
The 1000 Guineas heroine is one of 39 entries for the Group One over a mile, in which stablemates Esoterique, who defeated Miss France at Deauville on Sunday, and Fintry are also engaged.
"Miss France and Esoterique have come out of the Prix Rothschild very well, I am happy with them both," Fabre said.
"Miss France is the more likely to run in the Sun Chariot Stakes - at the moment that is the plan for her.
"She has already shown that she can beat the English fillies and she likes good ground and Newmarket is the best course to find that type of ground in October.
"Esoterique has alternative targets at Longchamp and in America, while Fintry was affected by a virus and will need a prep run beforehand.
"After she has run again I will consult with her owner, Sheikh Mohammed, and we will consider the Sun Chariot."
Alain de Royer-Dupre's recent Nassau Stakes runner-up, Narniyn, is another potential member of a French raiding party which attempts to export the Sun Chariot Stakes across the Channel for the fifth time in the last six years.
The David Wachman-trained Lahinch Classics, touched off in Group Two company at the Curragh last month, heads an eight-strong Irish entry.
The home team includes the respective first and second in this race 12 months ago, Sky Lantern and Integral. =======================================
Australia, Cirrus Des Aigles and Taghrooda feature among a stellar list of 37 entries for the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot in October.
With a total prize fund of £1.3million, the prestigious event is the richest mile and a quarter race in Europe.
"I would like to get him back for the Prix Dollar at Longchamp on the day before the Arc and if everything goes well there, it would be great to run him in the Champion Stakes for a fourth time."
Dual Derby hero Australia and Oaks and King George heroine Taghrooda would be major contenders if lining up on October 18.
Others to catch the eye include Dubai World Cup victor African Story, multiple Group One winner Al Kazeem and Coral-Eclipse winner Mukhadram. =========================================
Kingman dominates the 33 entries for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Champions Day on October 18.
Although connections remain undecided as to whether the brilliant colt runs beforehand, the Qipco-sponsored Group One at Ascot is very much the plan.
The John Gosden-trained Kingman could also be joined in the line-up by Lady Cecil's Noble Mission, who is also owned by Prince Khalid Abdullah.
Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to Khalid Abdullah, said: "Both Kingman and Noble Mission have come out of their latest races in good form and the Qipco Champions Day races are natural end-of-season targets for both of them."
Kingman has now won three consecutive Group One races and was only beaten by the Richard Hannon-trained Night Of Thunder in the 2000 Guineas.
Night Of Thunder also holds an entry in the QEII, alongside stablemates Olympic Glory, Toronado and Toormore.
Three fillies - Integral, Miss France and Rizeena - and talented colt Karakontie, trained in France by Jonathan Pease, are also engaged.
Clive Brittain is likely to give Rizeena, winner of the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot but second to Integral in the Falmouth, the go-ahead to take on Kingman et al.
The Newmarket handler said: "Rizeena has come out of her Falmouth Stakes run 100 per cent, she is absolutely jumping out of her skin.
"She has won all three times that she has raced at Ascot and I would love to go back there for the QEII and take on the colts." =======================================
Next month's Irish St Leger at the Curragh remains the most likely next port of call for Encke following his hugely encouraging return to action at Glorious Goodwood.
The five-year-old denied Camelot the elusive Triple Crown when clinching the St Leger at Doncaster in 2012, but was forced to miss the following campaign as one of the most high-profile horses involved in the Mahmood Al Zarooni drugs scandal.
"The most important two boxes to be ticked were that he still has the enthusiasm and the ability, and he did that, so hopefully we can move forward from here." ======================================
