Prescott back in business with Windsor runner SIR MARK PRESCOTT saddles his first runner of the Flat season when Mountain Kingdom contests the mile maiden (7.10) at Windsor tonight.

Ravenous could be off a handy mark on handicap debut at Windsor but one that is definitely well treated is Voyageofdiscovery. He showed he was on a lenient mark 2 days ago when getting no run at Haydock in a race he would have won with a clear passage through. That was handicap debut and he returns off the same mark at 9/4 with Ryan Tate taking off a further 3lb. The ground could just be on the quick side for Ravenous. Dullingham is interesting but very short and I'd rather have Cool Bahamian at a much bigger price. I'm tempted to put him in a forecast with the favourite in what looks a much easier race than he contested last time. Windsor 19.40 - Voyageofdiscovery 3pt win
Polybius has obvious claims in the following 3 year old handicap but 13/8 doesn't make much appeal in what looks a trappy race. A few of these are more talented than they've been showing and 3 are trying first time headgear. Strategic Force is tempting dropped in class in first time blinkers but Miss Lillie, with cheekpieces tried, gets the vote. She looked a promising filly last term when running in a Goodwood Group 3 behind Amazing Maria and the stable think plenty of her. She didn't handle the track or easy ground (it was softer than good that day) but won her maiden next time and then opened this season in the Nell Gwyn. Though she won her maiden over 7 on soft, connections maintain she wants decent ground and that's suggested on breeding. It was steadily run too and a strongly run 6 looks ideal. A few are likely to go forward today which will help and we can put a line through her run on heavy last time when sent off favourite. She'll be better this evening at 12/1. Exceeder is another danger though he may not have much in hand with the handicapper. Windsor 20.10 - Miss Lillie 1pt e/w

Call ready to sparkle in Sapphire
Reggie Roberts needs little introduction to those following the Irish greyhound scene but he could land a blow in the equine world at the Curragh this weekend with his improving sprinter Timeless Call.
From his base near Rathangan in County Kildare, Roberts has a minute string of horses compared with the size of his canine team and has saddled just a handful of runners this season.
Luckily Timeless Call is a very good one, and has earned herself a place in Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Sapphire Stakes after landing the Midsummer Sprint Stakes at Cork under Pat Smullen earlier this month.
"We've a good few dogs at the moment, but unfortunately they're all injured," Roberts said.
"We've always had a few mares around, my father always had horses and my grandmother. We've been having a ball with them - the other mare Misty Lane won at Gowran on Sunday as well.
"I'm looking forward to Saturday, she wants top of the ground so hopefully she gets that, now it's just down to the draw and having a good man on top.
"Pat says she might find five at the Curragh a bit stiff but she's going well and a Group win would be important for her.
"I think she's better this year. She was maybe a bit weak last year but was still unlucky to be beaten by Russian Soul at Tipperary."
In his day job, Roberts seems to have one remaining ambition.
He said: "We've been very lucky with the dogs and I've won most of the big races. I still haven't won the (Irish) Derby though - I've been second, third, fourth and fifth. It wouldn't matter to me if I didn't win it, but you've got to set yourself targets."
====================================== German Derby first choice for Chief
Ground conditions in Germany will dictate whether the promising Wild Chief remains at home for his next run or travels further afield.
Trainer Jens Hirschberger has given his three-year-old an entry in next month's King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, which remains one of the options on the table.
A very lightly-raced son of Doyen, Wild Chief made a winning start in Cologne last autumn and finished third in a Listed race at Saint-Cloud on his comeback.
Upped in class, he was then a more than respectable fourth to The Grey Gatsby when produced from the rear of the field in the French Derby.
Hirschberger, who is based at the Bergheim training centre near Cologne, said: "The plan is to go to the German Derby in two weeks.
"The ground at Hamburg is usually either very soft or very hard, but if it's OK we will run in the German Derby.
"If it's not, we will look at running either at Ascot, or in the Grand Prix de Paris."
====================================== Telescope all set for Ascot return
Connections of Telescope have their sights firmly focused on the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes after his impressive victory at Royal Ascot.
The four-year-old fulfilled his tall home reputation with a seven-length demolition of the opposition in the Group Two Hardwicke Stakes on Saturday, and Group One targets now beckon.
The colt, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, will return to the Berkshire course for the midsummer showpiece on July 26, sponsored by the Qipco British Champions Series, for which he will be leading contender.
"Fingers crossed, the King George is the plan for him. He was amazing on Saturday," Harry Herbert, racing manager to owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, told At The Races.
"As far as I know he's come out of the race fine and all roads lead to the King George.
"It was a terrific performance and to see him restore his reputation, not that he really needed to do that.
"He's a classic Sir Michael improver, hopefully. That's what he's showing.
"Sir Michael has done it all very quietly with him. He always thought he'd be better at four with his pedigree and his make and shape would suggest that to a degree."
=================================== Alexander to rise in Phoenix
Anthem Alexander is on course to take on the colts in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on August 10.
The Eddie Lynam-trained filly booked her place in the five-furlong Group One with a neck call over Tiggy Wiggy in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.
"She's got a great constitution. That was her third run in four weeks. She took it great," the County Meath handler told At The Races.
"She was out this morning and came back in after exercise full of beans. She's in great order and I'm very happy with her.
"I think she's sprint-bred and a natural. I think she'll get six, but she will be a five- or six-furlong filly.
"She's by a champion sprinter, Starspangledbanner, and is out of a high-class racemare (Lady Alexander), who won a Molecomb. She's a half-sister to Dandy Man, who was a top-class sprinter.
"She should be a sprinter and we're looking forward to her. We think she should get better.
"I've talked to Noel (O'Callaghan, owner) and the Phoenix Stakes is the way we're leaning at the moment."
====================================== Minor problem hinders Kristale
George Margarson expects to have Lucky Kristale back in work in about 10 days after it was discovered she had a haematoma when disappointing in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday.
The Newmarket handler had expected a big run from last year's Duchess of Cambridge and Lowther Stakes heroine and still retains faith in her.
"She's got a haematoma between her front legs. She's 100 per cent sound, it's just when the girth is on it that is causing her problems. It's too far forward to be a pinched girth," said Margarson.
"It's not bad enough to drain, it's going to settle down on its own. I think it will take 10 days. We just don't know how she did it.
"She's been bucking and kicking today, but if you put a girth on her now she wouldn't be able to stretch out.
"It's one of those things. We'll just have to wait until it settles down. She won't lose much work and then we will make plans for her after that.
"We X-rayed her joints and they were clean. Scans and everything were good.
"I see she's been backed for the July Cup. It wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility, but the main thing is to get her right and it might be cutting it a bit fine for that. It's less than three weeks away.
"I'll wait until the physio and the vet say we can put a saddle on her. She'll be turned out in the paddock every afternoon so she'll be getting plenty of exercise on it. The vet said the more exercise she does the better, but not with a saddle on.
"All being well we'll get her back before the end of the year and do something useful."
===================================== All set for July Power play
Eddie Lynam's sprinting stars Sole Power and Slade Power are set to clash for a second time in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket.
The pair gave owners David and Sabena Power the week of a lifetime when winning the King's Stand Stakes and Diamond Jubilee respectively at Royal Ascot and are on course for the six-furlong championship on July 12.
Both ran in the July Cup last summer, with Slade Power finishing third to Lethal Force with Sole Power just a neck and a head behind in fifth place.
As long as the two horses are in good form, connections are likely to let them take their chance.
"They are both going for it at the moment. They are both very well. Sole Power was ridden out this morning, Sole Power was out as well and both are in great nick," Lynam told At the Races.
"Their owners are very sporting and I don't see any reason why they shouldn't go for it.
"There was only half a length between them last year. I think Slade Power has improved. Sole Power didn't get things to go right for him last year with his draw and he got messed around early.
"He's one of those horses that needs everything to go right for him with the style of racing he has.
"If they are both well, they will both go there and try their best.
"The ground won't matter to Slade Power, while Sole Power would need good or faster to be at his best."
The owners' bookmaking firm, Paddy Power, has priced up a novelty bet on which of the two speedsters will be the higher rated at the end of the season. Slade Power is 2-7 with Sole Power 7-2 and 10-1 a tie.
Paddy Power, son of the owners, said: "My family loves both horses, but it's interesting that officially Sole, winner of three Group Ones, is currently rated 114, while Slade is 119 after one top-table success."
===================================== Treve setback 'nothing serious'
Treve is set for a break before returning to exercise with trainer Criquette Head-Maarek stressing the results of tests following her run at Royal Ascot were "nothing serious".
The brilliant winner of last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is still expected to be able to defend her crown at Longchamp in October, but needed a full check-up after finishing only third in Wednesday's Prince of Wales's Stakes.
Treve, who is owned Al Shaqab Racing, was reported by Sheikh Joaan's racing advisor Harry Herbert to be sore from the top of her back into her hind quarters and had not gone down to the start in her usual way.
"She has had tests all over the place and they found she has got minor arthritis in her back," said Head-Maarek on Monday.
"It means she will go away and have a rest for a few days, and then she'll come back and we'll start again. It's nothing serious."
The four-year-old will be given time to recover before being prepared for her comeback run ahead of the Arc in the Prix Vermeille in September.
"She went to post very badly in the Prince of Wales's and it turns out she's got a pulled muscle over the top of her quarters," Herbert told At The Races.
"Something upset her in the pre-parade ring for a short time and she was prancing around all over the place, kicking out and being unlike her.
"Hopefully she will be spot on (for the Arc). It shouldn't take long for her to get over this with treatment and recuperation and then go for the Vermeille.
"I'm sure she can come back and she will appreciate the ground for that more than the fast ground at Ascot and probably the trip as well, but she was never going at all last week."
====================================== Naamah hits Chantilly target
Al Naamah received an introductory quote of 20-1 from Paddy Power for next year's Investec Oaks after the record-breaking purchase made an impressive winning racecourse bow at Chantilly.
Sheikh Joaan's Al Shaqab Racing operation paid the highest price for a yearling in European auction history when spending five million guineas on the full-sister to Oaks winnner Was, by Galileo out of Alluring Park.
The Andre Fabre-trained Al Naamah was seen a little earlier than might have been expected when taking to the track in the seven-furlong Prix de Pontpoint but she emerged a comfortable winner.
Maxime Guyon and the even-money favourite raced prominently and eventually beat a previous winner, Kenouska, by two lengths.
Harry Herbert, Al Shaqab's racing advisor, told Equidia: "I was very impressed, she did it very easily.
"She wouldn't blow a candle out. Andre likes her a lot and she's shown today that she could be very special.
"She's a beautiful specimen and has a fantastic pedigree. She's got her whole racing career ahead of her.
"To start like this, I think everyone can see she's a filly with a terrific future. But it's all ahead of her, this is just the beginning.
"I think Andre wants to see how she come out of this and probably have one more run before heading into the Group One autumn races at Longchamp at the Arc meeting."
RaceBets make Al Naamah 6-4 from 7-2 to win a European Group race this year, and 7-1 for it to be at the top level (from 16-1).
There was a reverse later on the Chantilly card for Al Shaqab, as the Alain de Royer-Dupre-trained Irish Oaks entrant Jarada was only fourth on her debut in a 10-furlong maiden under Frankie Dettori.
======================================= George 'logical' for Top - Buick
Jockey William Buick has reaffirmed his faith in Royal Ascot winner Eagle Top - and believes it would be "logical" to supplement the John Gosden-trained colt for the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes next month.
The son of Pivotal, who is related to Oaks winner Sariska, swept to an impressive success from the heavily-backed Adelaide in the King Edward VII Stakes on Friday, a race Gosden won in 2011 with Nathaniel, who went on to King George glory by beating Derby winner Workforce.
Writing on his At The Races blog, Buick said: "I think you saw an exceptional horse in the making when Eagle Top won the King Edward VII Stakes impressively."
He added: "I firmly believe that he could be absolutely anything because what he did in that race was something that not many horses can do - pick the field up in a very short distance.
"I'm sure that he wouldn't want the ground very quick but Friday's conditions were absolutely fine.
"I won the race on Nathaniel in 2011 and he went on to win the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes so it's logical for Eagle Top to be supplemented - even though Telescope was impressive in the Hardwicke Stakes.
"It's a decent weight-for-age allowance in July and I'd put him ahead of Nathaniel at this stage, although they were completely different horses.
"Nathaniel would grind down the opposition and just not give any horse an inch but Eagle Top has raw pace and ability which I don't think you've seen the best of - yet.
"Remember, he didn't race at two and this was only the third race of his life."
========================================= Mullins hangs fire on Plate plans
Willie Mullins is set to have at least one runner from three possibles in the John Smith's Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday.
Ireland's champion jumps trainer left top-weight Simenon, Royal Ascot winner Pique Sous and Lucky Bridle in the prestigious two-mile heritage handicap at the confirmation stage.
Simenon was a highly creditable fifth in the Gold Cup at the Royal meeting on Thursday, while Pique Sous took the marathon Queen Alexandra Stakes that concluded proceedings on Saturday.
Mullins will see how they have taken their recent exertions before deciding on their participation.
On the other hand, Lucky Bridle has not been quite as busy, finishing second at Cork a month ago. The five-year-old would be a popular winner as he is owned locally by Andrea and Graham Wylie.
"Lucky Bridle at the moment is a definite runner and I will see how the other two horses are," said Mullins.
Bookmakers are taking no chances on Pique Sous after he justified strong support at the weekend, and the seven-year-old, who has a 5lb penalty for that success, is 6-1 favourite with Ladbrokes, Betfred and Paddy Power.
All three Mullins' representatives are guaranteed a place in the maximum 20-strong line-up, although plenty of connections will be disappointed as 60 stood their ground on Monday.
Tony Martin lifted this coveted prize in 2009 with Arc Bleu and the County Meath handler has two possibles in Dark Crusader and Thomas Edison, but both need horses to come out in order to take their chance.
There is a Northern Ireland entry in the shape of Sir Ector, trained in County Armagh by James Lambe.
Suegioo and Angel Gabrial, the first and second in the Chester Cup winner, could do battle again while other smart stayers in the mix include Whiplash Willie, Shwaiman, Big Thunder, Al Saham and Van Percy.
The going at Newcastle was described as good to firm, firm in places and clerk of the course James Armstrong is hanging fire on watering until the weather forecast for the week becomes clearer.
He said: "We've had a dry 10 days. The ground has quickened up a fair bit. We put a fair bit of water on the entire course on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to try to keep things ticking over.
"The forecast said the weather was going to break down towards the second part of the week, but we are waiting for an update to see what might happen because there are mixed reports.
"If we do get rain we could get a bit, so we are going to have a check in the morning when all the forecasters have updated their records.
"If it looks like we are going to get only a few showers then we will probably start watering again. However, if the forecast suggests we are going to get a decent drop of rain then we will keep of the course regards irrigating.
"The course is in great condition with a good covering of grass. We are ready to rock and roll, but we just have this mixed forecast and no-one wants to pin their colours on what might happen."

4.10, fifth race
The Stewards noted that the winner, FRANGIPANNI (IRE), had interfered with BIG BONED (USA), unplaced, approaching the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved FRANGIPANNI (IRE)’s placing.
The Stewards noted that HALF WAY, placed second, had interfered with the winner, FRANGIPANNI (IRE), inside the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

In the first incident, shortly after the start, having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that SKINNY LOVE, placed third, ridden by Adam Beschizza, had interfered with COISTE BODHAR (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Thomas Brown. The Stewards found Beschizza in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he had allowed his filly to drift left without taking sufficient corrective action. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 July 2014.
In the second incident, on the final bend, having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that COISTRE BODHAR (IRE) had interfered with EL DUQUE, unplaced, ridden by Ryan While. 6.50, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approaching two furlongs out. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that LEES ANTHEM, placed second, ridden by David Allan, had interfered with the winner, AMIS REUNIS, ridden by Patrick Mathers, who in turn interfered with CHARLEMAGNE DIVA, unplaced, ridden by Duilio Da Silva. They found the interference was accidental.
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why P J McDonald, the rider of DREAM ALLY (IRE), had been slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the start they accepted his explanation that the gelding reared in the stalls and he became momentarily unbalanced prior to the stalls opening resulting in him being unable to remove the blindfold in time.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the fall of Danielle Mooney, the rider of ICEBLAST, on leaving the stalls. They interviewed the rider. Having heard her evidence and viewed recordings of the incident the Stewards found that the fall was caused by ICEBLAST rearing as the stalls opened and then plunging and unseating the rider. Being satisfied that no other horse or rider was involved, the Stewards took no further action.
7.50, fourth race
The Starter reported that JAN SMUTS (IRE), trained by Wilf Storey, was the subject of a third criteria failure. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
8.20, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Dougie Costello, the rider of FLEXIBLE FLYER, had been slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start. 23/06/2014
Windsor, 23 June 2014
7.10, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference approaching the furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, CERTIFICATE, ridden by Frederik Tylicki, had interfered with OLD GUARD, placed second, ridden by James Doyle. Taking into account that the interference had occurred over a furlong out and the second appeared held on the run to the line, they were satisfied that it had not improved CERTIFICATE’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered. The Stewards found Tylicki in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift right-handed to the rail when not clear. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Monday 7 July 2014.
8.40, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Kieren Fallon, the rider of STOCKHILL DIVA, placed third, had appeared to stop riding shortly before the winning post. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race they noted his explanation that the filly was headed before he stopped riding.
The Stewards noted that IF I WERE A BOY (IRE), placed second, had interfered with STOCKHILL DIVA, placed third, who in turn interfered with the winner PANETTONE (IRE), at the two furlong marker, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

Treve is expected to be fit enough to defend her crown in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in October. Treve (centre): Expected to line up at Longchamp in October. The Criquette Head-Maarek-trained filly was found to have pulled muscles in her quarters when finishing only third in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday. The four-year-old will now be given time to recover before being prepared for her comeback run ahead of the Arc in the Prix Vermeille in September. "She went to post very badly in the Prince of Wales's and it turns out she's got a pulled muscle over the top of her quarters," Harry Herbert, racing manager for owners Al Shaqab Racing, told At The Races.

Connections of Telescope have their sights firmly focused on the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes after his impressive victory at Royal Ascot. Telescope: Sights firmly on the King George at Ascot.

TRAINER Saeed Bin Suroor is hoping the rain stays away from the Curragh to enable Derby seventh True Story to line up for a Classic Godolphin won 20 years ago with one of their first top-class horses. ======================================== Newcastle begins watering for Plate meeting GROUNDSTAFF at Newcastle have started watering in preparation for the track's three-day Northumberland Plate meeting, which starts on Thursday. ===================================== Singapore: O'Shea set for four-month summer riding stint FOUR-TIME UAE champion jockey Tadhg O'Shea, who last month split with Jimmy Long following a difference of opinion with the owner, has been granted a four-month licence by the Singapore Turf Club to ride this summer. ============================================ THE spotlight has been thrust back on jockeys Martin Dwyer and Paul Mulrennan – and the BHA – after an alleged telephone conversation concerning the 2010 Eclipse Stakes of India was posted on YouTube.
Royal Western India Turf Club stewards held an inquiry based on the recording anonymously sent to them last autumn, in which Dwyer allegedly tells Mulrennan the horse he is riding the following day at Mahalaxmi racecourse cannot win and that he planned to back Icebreaker, who won under David Allan.
Allan is not alleged to have had any knowledge of apparent discussions between Dwyer and Mulrennan, a copy of which was sent to the riders, the BHA and Professional Jockeys Association by the RWITC towards the end of last year.
The jockeys and BHA were informed recently that no disciplinary action would be taken by the RWITC, but whether the publicising of the alleged conversation changes anything remains to be seen.
The BHA’s media manager Robin Mounsey said last night: “We are aware of the audio recording and the fact it has now been posted publicly does not alter our approach to this matter.
“In the first instance the matter was the subject of an investigation by RWITC. That process was recently concluded.”
He added: “It is BHA policy never to comment on our own investigations or speculation surrounding possible investigations.”
The PJA said in a statement: “Both jockeys were happy to co-operate with the RWITC but had a number of questions before they were willing to fly to India to be interviewed.
“No disciplinary proceedings were instigated, and the RWITC have informed the jockeys they will not be able to ride there this winter until they travel to India to be interviewed.”
The ten-minute alleged recording had attracted nearly 1,500 views as of 9.30pm on Monday. ==========================================

British-born jockeys Martin Dwyer and Paul Mulrennan caught discussing outcome of races in Mumbai. Tapes uncover sport's biggest fixing racket in recent years.
A secretly-recorded conversation between two British-born jockeys allegedly pre-determining the outcome of races in Mumbai has blown the lid off the sport's biggest race-fixing racket in recent years.
In response to the anonymously recorded CD that landed on his desk in September this year, Royal Western India Turf Club chairman Khusroo Dhunjibhoy called for a meeting with the Turf Club's managing committee and the Board of Appeal as also nominated and professional stewards last Monday. The authenticity of the CD had already been verified. The alleged conversation was recorded on Saturday, February 13, 2010, between jockeys Martin Dwyer and Paul Mulrennan. In the course of the ten-minute-long conversation — this reporter has seen the transcripts — the two men discussed the possible outcome of the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Eclipse Stakes of India to be run the next day on Valentine's Day.
Martin Dwyer who allegedly initiated the call tried to convince his fellow jockey about the superiority of Icebreaker, one of the six contenders in the race over another horse Onassis, which Mulrennan was to ride the day of the February 2010 race . "She (Icebreaker) is as good as the horse (Becket) I rode in the Derby if you compare...I am going to back the filly (Icebreaker)." He then goes on to erase Mulrennan's doubts saying, "She should win, she is a good filly mate."
While Icebreaker is owned by Zavaray Poonawalla and his family, Onassis ran under the joint ownership of Vijay Shirke, K N Dhunjibhoy and Farouq Rattonsey.
Dwyer also advises Mulrennan to keep David Allan (Icebreaker's jockey) out of the loop saying 'and leave David out of the loop, he's f****** doesn't have the brain. He is f****** terrified of Paddy (Icebreaker's trainer S Padmanabhan), he just does what is told to him (and) tries to win every race after what happened to him last year'.
Later in the conversation, Mulrennan confides in Dwyer that "Pesi Shroff doesn't even want to run this horse Onassis but the owners want to run the horse."
Dwyer replies: "That is great because your horse (Onassis) is pushing up the price (odds of Icebreaker) there. There is no way I will back that horse (Onassis) within a week, there is no way...so you do what you want, you can f****** back the horse (Onassis) if you want.....she (Icebreaker) is too good'.
Mulrennan then ends that topic saying, 'So I will try and sit..."
A senior RWITC official who was present at the meeting convened by Dhunjibhoy, told this newspaper: "We believe David Allan, who rode Icebreaker and went on to win the Eclipse Stakes, is unaware of what had transpired between Dwyer and Mulrennan. Mulrennan , who was astride Onassis, never makes any headway in the race before finishing fourth. These jockeys apparently worked in tandem for their own mutual benefit. We can only speculate on how many such incidents have taken place before and after the Eclipse Stakes' race," he said.
Since the race was run three years back, RWITC stewards cannot take any retrospective penal action. But the RWITC is taking these revelations seriously. "We recently decided to implement a whistle-blower policy and any vital information, like the CD, is welcome. This helps us protect the sport's integrity," said Khushroo Dhunjibhoy.
"No incriminating evidence like this was ever found against foreign jockeys but this recording busts the myth that they don't indulge in any wrongdoing. We have learnt our lesson and will make every effort to ensure that professionals, both Indian and foreign, don't violate the integrity of the sport. Owners will now have to be extremely careful about the credentials of the foreign jockeys they want to hire."
"Personally, I was devastated when Iheard this conversation since Mulrennan was retained by us for that season," said Dhunjibhoy.
Martin Dwyer, who won the prestigious Epsom Derby in 2006, has already been indicted for malpractice by the RWITC for a separate incident. On February 17 this year, he escaped an attack by furious punters who believed he had thrown a race while he rode the race favourite, a horse named Ice Age. He was handed a 56-day riding ban last month. However, RWITC's counterpart the British Horseracing Authority, considered Dwyer's appeal against this decision favourably, and declined to reciprocate his punishment citing procedural lacunae in RWITC's disciplinary hearing.
When we tried to get in touch with Dwyer for this story, we were told he was unavailable as he was away at the races. Mulrennan too could not be contacted as he had taken a tumble while racing and was bed-ridden with extensive injuries.

16:15 Tuesday 24th June Racing Tips - 24/06/2014
I wanted to put up Christmas Light at Beverley but have missed the boat. He's now a 9/2 shot and Aryal is probably a better bet at the prices. The mile handicap is very open and a couple are of interest. This is harder than Be Royale faced last time and Space War is back off the same sort of mark he has struggled from of late. Surround Sound wants good ground so his last couple of efforts can be forgiven. He's well treated on the basis of his Redcar run in April in tougher company than this and I thought he be nearer the head of the market than 7/1. Also worth a go is Last Destination at 20/1 who has been out the back and never involved on 4 of his last 5 starts. He's 3lb out of the weights but that still has him 5lb below his last win which came here over a furlong further. This stiff finish seems to suit and the yard are going well. He may get going too late but is worth chancing at the price. Beverley 16.15 - Last Destination 1pt e/w Beverley 16.15 - Surround Sound 1pt e/w

Fenton must wait for case decision
Trainer Philip Fenton will have to wait two more days to find out whether he will stand trial over the alleged possession of banned animal remedies including steroids.
The 49-year-old is facing eight charges over treatments and medicines claimed to have been found at his yard South Lodge, Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary by veterinary inspectors in January 2012.
Judge Terence Finn was expected to rule on Tuesday if the case should proceed following objections about the offences listed on the summonses and the animal remedies regulations Mr Fenton is alleged to have contravened.
But he postponed his ruling until Thursday to allow for more time to review the legal submissions. He is expected to give a decision on the case on Thursday at Cashel District Court.
Following lengthy and complex legal arguments at earlier hearings, lawyers for the state claimed the case against the trainer is that he accepts he had the banned products.
At Carrick-on-Suir District Court last week, defence lawyers claimed the prosecution should not be brought as the regulations Fenton is alleged to have contravened date from July 2012 while the offences are alleged to have occurred in January that year.
No plea has been entered in the case.
Prosecution is being taken by Ireland's Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine following an inspection of Mr Fenton's yard on January 18, 2012.
The trainer faces eight charges in relation to alleged possession of Nitrotain and Ilium Stanabolic and prescription medicines including Engemycin 10%, Neomycin Penicillin and Marbocyl 10%.
==================================== Chase team in no hurry
Cannock Chase is unlikely to be asked to tackle Group One company this season.
Sir Michael Stoute's Tercentenary Stakes winner has the look of a typical late-maturing type that the yard excels with having only broken his maiden in April.
He followed that up with an impressive success in the London Gold Cup at Newbury before making the step up to Group company at Ascot last week.
However, owner Saeed Suhail's racing manager Bruce Raymond thinks Stoute would prefer to wait before pitching him into Group One company.
"Cannock Chase was very good," said Raymond.
"While he's progressing nicely I don't think he'll be running in a Group One this year, but next year might be his time.
"He looks a typical Sir Michael Stoute improver and he thinks as a four- and five-year-old he will really come into his own.
"He won't be running on fast ground, though, Sir Michael wouldn't want to risk his long-term future at this stage.
"He managed to cope with it at Ascot but that was as fast as he'd want it I think."
======================================= Point seeking Group glory
Stepper Point is set to have two quick stabs at getting this first Group success on the board.
The five-year-old is a three-time Listed winner, but has yet to get his head in front at a higher level despite several near-misses.
After he went close to winning at the top table when second to Sole Power in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, connections of the William Muir-trained gelding have pencilled in two summer sprints.
First there is the Group Three Coral Charge at Sandown on July 5, followed by the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on August 1.
"He's run to that level all year. I said he'd probably run at Goodwood next and then when I spoke to the owner he said don't forget the Coral Charge, so he'll likely go there first then Goodwood," Muir told At The Races.
"He comes out of these races well. You know he's got the ability you just keep ticking away with him."
===================================== Falmouth beckons for Rizeena
Rizeena is likely to get the chance to break her Newmarket duck in the Qipco Falmouth Stakes on July 11.
Clive Brittain's star filly bounced back to her best with an authoritative display in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last week, following up her win in the Queen Mary over five furlongs last year.
Rizeena has won five of her 10 races, yet four of her defeats have come at Headquarters, prompting her handler to suggest she is maybe not at her best on the track.
However, owner Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum's racing manager Bruce Raymond felt she probably needed the run in the 1000 Guineas, in which she finished seventh.
"It was good to see her back to her best," said Raymond.
"She was cruising all the way and Ryan (Moore) was always in the right position, as he always is, and looked happy.
"I imagine it will be the Falmouth next. I have no worries about her running below par at Newmarket.
"I know she has never won there, but it's only in the Guineas when she been well beaten and I think she probably needed the run more than we expected that day.
"She possibly doesn't come down the hill as well as some but she nearly won the Fillies' Mile.
"I thought she looked a totally different filly at Ascot compared to the Guineas, but then a lot of horses do."
====================================== Noble possible for Paris Mission
Lady Cecil is keen to run Noble Mission in the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud this weekend, but only if the ground is in his favour.
Before this season the five-year-old was best known as Frankel's brother, but successive wins in the Gordon Richards Stakes, the Huxley Stakes and the Tattersalls Gold Cup have seen him earn headlines in his own right.
Those three wins all came on soft ground and while his handler feels he does not need it to be seen at his best, she thinks it inconveniences others enough for it to be a part of his success.
"It's too early to say if he'll run yet," said Cecil.
"I believe rain is forecast and we'll see what the ground is like first. Soft ground isn't essential for him, but it helps him and inconveniences the others.
"We're giving the race lots of consideration as he's in very good form and his last few races (defeats of Telescope and Magician) could hardly have worked out better.
"We'll just see what the weather does - it's hard to make a decision this early in the week.
"He's in the King George and is well entered up in all races over 10 furlongs and a mile and a half, so we'll just try to find the best opening for him."
Noble Mission's owner Khalid Abdullah has another possible for the race in Flintshire. T rained in France by Andre Fabre, the four-year-old made a pleasing seasonal debut when second to Cirrus Des Aigles in the Coronation Cup at Epsom earlier this month. However, the son of Dansili needs quick ground to be at his best.
"He just took a while to come to himself in the spring. He was a little more backward. He got stuck in the mud at Longchamp in the Arc," Abdullah's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe told At The Races.
"He has a fast-ground action. To show his best he'll need good or faster ground.
"We were delighted with his run at Epsom behind Cirrus des Aigles. He had a really good blow afterwards. I would hope that has set him up for this race and then, all being well, we'll look at something like the King George."
======================================== Thunder aiming to Eclipse rivals
Night Of Thunder is likely to be stepped up in trip for the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on July 5.
The Richard Hannon-trained colt came off second best in his rematch with John Gosden's Kingman having been a surprise 40-1 winner of the 2000 Guineas.
Richard Hughes adopted new front-running tactics on the son of Dubawi and while he had no answer to the impressive winner, he yet again showed himself to be a three-year-old of the highest calibre.
Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saeed Manana, said: "The winner looks exceptional. There wouldn't seem to be much point in taking him on again over a mile so I'd have thought we'd look at stepping up in trip.
"There's talk of the Eclipse and that might be next. There's a lot of good horses around at a mile so that will probably be the route he goes."
Night Of Thunder is 11-4 second favourite with the sponsors behind Prince of Wales's winner The Fugue.
================================ Sussex aim for Kingman
Kingman is likely to take on older horses for the first time in the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on July 30.
The John Gosden-trained colt has proved himself the pick of the three-year-old generation with victories in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the St James's Palace Stakes, and will mix it with his elders now.
The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes back at Ascot on Champions Day, October 18, is the long-term objective for the Khalid Abdullah-owned star.
"We would certainly look at the Sussex and that would be his next possible race he could go for," Teddy Grimthorpe, Abdullah's racing manager, told At The Races.
"If by chance he missed that for any reason then we'd also be looking at the Jacques le Marois. He could do both, of course. If it came to a call between one and the other we'd have to weigh up everything.
"It wouldn't be a question of avoiding anything, it would be trying to do what's best for the horse and I would think John (Gosden) and Prince Khalid would have the QEII at the end of the year in mind.
"It's a question of working back from there and trying to get it all right."
Kingman has an entry in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket but Grimthorpe explained that is purely a safeguard and is now extremely unlikely.
"We did give him a July Cup entry before he went to Ireland, just as a precaution, just in case we'd got it a bit wrong. He is closely related to Oasis Dream (July Cup winner for connections in 2003), but is a slightly different horse and his mother was a miler," he said.
"I think we will probably shelve that for the time being now that he has proved himself at the highest class at a mile."
================================ Lee booked for Ector ride
Jimmy Lambe has secured the services of last year's winning jockey Graham Lee for Sir Ector in the John Smith's Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday.
Lee rode winners in his days as a jumps jockey for the County Armagh trainer and Lambe is delighted to renew the association on the Flat.
He is hoping Lee, who lifted the highly-prized two-mile handicap on Tominator for Jonjo O'Neill in 2013, can repeat the trick on Sir Ector.
The seven-year-old has run with credit against some of the best stayers in the business, including last week's Gold Cup hero Leading Light, British Champions Long Distance Cup victor Royal Diamond and Queen Alexandra Stakes runner-up El Salvador.
"Graham's ridden winners for me over jumps. He's a cracking jockey and he won the race last year on Tominator," said Lambe.
"It's a ultra-competitive handicap and we have to hope the draw is kind to us. It's over two miles, he's lowered in class and we're hoping for a good run.
"Last year in the Ulster Derby he beat Mark Johnston's horse (Scatter Dice) who won the English Cesarewitch. He won the Leopardstown Movember Handicap and has been Listed and Group placed. He was fourth behind Leading Light, Pale Mimosa and Royal Diamond, about 11 lengths behind the winner.
"His last run was a bit disappointing but he was a little keen behind Missunited. Last year he was only beaten three and a half lengths by Eye Of The Storm and ran well behind El Salvador in Limerick and he was second in the Queen Alexandra Stakes.
"He's run at Leopardstown on a very quick surface and was second to Royal Diamond on good to firm, so the ground shouldn't be a worry." ====================================== Ambivalent leads Polly possibles
Roger Varian's Ambivalent is one of 15 fillies and mares in contention for the Newbridge Silverware Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.
The daughter of Authorized notched up her first Group One win in this contest 12 months ago and has continued in great form, running well against the colts in Dubai and making the frame in the Coronation Cup at Epsom.
"She's in great form. She came out of Epsom really well. It was a really good run there and was probably almost a career best after Dubai," Varian's assistant David Eustace told At The Races.
"Ground doesn't seem to be an issue with her this year. We thought she was best on fast ground, but it was good to soft at York when she won.
"She'll go there with a good chance of winning the race again."
Other possible runners from Britain include Charlie Hills' Just The Judge, a late withdrawal at Royal Ascot, Roger Charlton's Thistle Bird and John Gosden's unbeaten Pomology.
Aidan O'Brien's Venus De Milo, narrowly beaten in the Irish Oaks last year, looks the main Ballydoyle contender. O'Brien could also be represented by Marvellous, Palace, Peace Burg and Terrific.
David Wachman's Lahinch Classics was narrowly beaten by Epsom third Volume at Newbury, while Eddie Lynam will be hoping his good run continues with Pearl Of Africa, and John Oxx could run Harasiya. Along Came Casey, Euphrasia and Avenue Gabrial, fourth in the Irish 1000 Guineas, complete the list.
================================= Weld aiming to Rock Australia
Dermot Weld is hoping Fascinating Rock will be better suited by the Curragh track in Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby than he was by the contours of Epsom.
Winner of a Leopardstown maiden on the first day of the season, he followed up in the Ballysax Stakes and was awarded the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial by the Leopardstown stewards.
He managed only eighth place in the Investec Derby on his first attempt at 12 furlongs, but rather than using the trip as an excuse for the son of Fastnet Rock, Weld believes it was the ups and downs of Epsom that did not suit.
"Fascinating Rock has done really well since Epsom," said the trainer.
"The horse just didn't handle the track that day and we expect a better showing from him on Saturday."
John Oxx ran Ebanoran at Epsom but felt he failed to get home over the trip so he turns to Ponfeigh, who has two wins over a mile to his name this season.
"Ponfeigh has had two quick runs but he is in good order and will take his chance in Saturday's race," said Oxx.
"We have always liked this horse and he has a nice turn of foot. Obviously the step up in grade and trip is unknown territory for him but, on form, he is entitled to take his chance."
The race obviously revolves around Epsom winner Australia, who is one of seven possibles for Aidan O'Brien. He is likely to be a very warm order to emulate his former stablemate Camelot, who completed the Classic double two years ago.
While O'Brien will be hoping the rain stays away for his new star, connections of Derby runner-up Kingston Hill will be hoping for rain to enable a rematch to take place.
"We're looking at the weather. They are saying they could get up to 15 millimetres of rain and if that was the case, we'd love to run if we got good ground or easier," said David Eustace, assistant to trainer Roger Varian.
As well as Australia, O'Brien could run Geoffrey Chaucer, who went wrong at Epsom, Kingfisher, Mekong River, Orchestra, Table Rock and War Command, who was a fast-finishing fourth over a mile in the St James's Palace Stakes last week.
Godolphin's True Story, one place in front of Fascinating Rock at Epsom, could also renew rivalry.
Bookmakers Racebets have only seen support for one horse since the market opened.
"Australia has been the only horse for money in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby. From 4-6 two weeks ago, he has shortened to 4-7, 1-2, 4-9 and into 1-3 this morning," said spokesman Joseph Burke.
"Kingston Hill on the other hand has drifted from an opening show of 5-2 all the way out to 4-1 and is currently friendless in what is effectively a one-horse book."
Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, Racebets bet: 1-3 Australia, 4-1 Kingston Hill, 13-2 True Story, 8-1 Geoffrey Chaucer, 10-1 Fascinating Rock, Ponfeigh, 12-1 War Command, 20-1 bar.

Beverley, 24 June 2014
3.45, fifth race
The Stewards noted that GAMBOL (FR), placed third, and SPANISH PLUME, placed second, had both interfered with SHEILA’S CASTLE, unplaced, approaching one furlong out but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved either GAMBOL (FR) or SPANISH PLUME’s placing.
4.15, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, JACBEQUICK, ridden by Jacob Butterfield, had interfered with LAST DESTINATION (IRE), placed second, ridden by Andrew Mullen and that the interference had not improved JACBEQUICK’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered. The Stewards found Butterfield in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his horse to drift left, thereby causing interference. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Tuesday 8 July 2014.
4.45, seventh race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the fall of Anna Hesketh, the rider of MANATEE BAY, leaving the stalls. They interviewed Hesketh and having heard her evidence and viewed recordings of the incident the Stewards found that the fall was caused by the gelding jumping awkwardly leaving the stalls. Being satisfied that no other horse or rider was involved, the Stewards took no further action.
24/06/2014
Brighton, 24 June 2014
4.00, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by William Twiston-Davies, the rider of ABIGAILS ANGEL, placed second, from two furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Twiston-Davies for 4 days as follows: Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9, Thursday 10 and Monday 14 July 2014.
24/06/2014
Newbury, 24 June 2014
6.20, first race
Cam Hardie, who was declared to ride ETON RAMBLER (USA), failed to arrive in time to weigh out. The Stewards found Richard Hannon, his employer, in breach of Rule (C)44.6 in that he was responsible for the riding arrangements for his apprentice jockey. They fined him £140. Permission was given for Ryan Tate to be substituted.
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider whether or not Ryan Tate was qualified to ride ETON RAMBLER (USA), placed second, trained by George Baker, in this race. They interviewed the rider; the trainer; Heather Main, the trainer of HECTOR’S CHANCE, unplaced; the Clerk of the Scales and the Judge. Having heard their evidence the Stewards ordered a report to be forwarded to the British Horseracing Authority.
The Stewards noted that Ryan Tate, the rider of ETON RAMBLER (USA), placed second, had struck EMMAN BEE (IRE), placed third, on the nose with his whip. They were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
24/06/2014
Newton Abbot, 24 June 2014
7.05, third race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, LAUDATORY, ridden by Nico de Boinville, and trained by Nicky Henderson, compared with its previous run at Wetherby on 22 May 2014, where the gelding finished 5th of 6, beaten 29 lengths on good to soft ground. They noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that LAUDATORY appreciated the faster ground. They ordered the gelding to be routine tested.
========================================
Beverley, 24 June 2014
2.45, third race
The Stewards considered the running of TAFAWUK (USA) ridden by Frederik Tylicki and trained by Roger Varian, which finished unplaced. The Stewards noted the explanation of the trainer’s representative that the gelding was unsuited by the ground which was good to firm, good in places, but was riding loose in his opinion. BHA does not rule out action as Martin Dwyer betting tape goes public • Rider apparently heard discussing wagering with fellow jockey • Discussions with Mulrennan were on race in India in 2010
Tony Paley The Guardian, Monday 23 June 2014 19.18 BST
The British Horseracing Authority has not ruled out any action being taken against Martin Dwyer and Paul Mulrennan after an alleged tape recording of a conversation discussing betting on horses while the jockeys were riding in India appeared in public via YouTube for the first time at the weekend.
In the recording, sent anonymously to the Royal Western Indian Turf Club in September, Dwyer and Mulrennan are apparently heard talking about the 2010 running of the Eclipse Stakes of India. Dwyer informs Mulrennan that Onassis, the horse the latter is riding in the race, cannot possibly beat Icebreaker, the filly which Dwyer says: “I’m going to back,” before recommending to his fellow rider, “You either want to back the filly or leave it. I wouldn’t be backing yours against it.”
In response to a discussion on the tactics likely to be employed Mulrennan, who also discusses betting on other races in India, states: “I’ll try and sit last on mine [in the Eclipse Stakes] then – get out of the way.”
Dwyer appears confident the filly will win the race at Mahalaxmi racecourse in Mumbai the next day, asserting: “She [Icebreaker] is as good as the horse I rode in the Derby … this filly is ****g smart, she’s training well.” Mulrennan informs him in response to further discussions on the heat that his mount is running on the insistence of the owner.
In the subsequent race Icebreaker was ridden to victory by David Allan, who is not alleged to have had any knowledge of the discussions between his weighing room colleagues.
The RWITC stewards held an inquiry into the matter after the tape came into their possession last autumn but it was reported last month that both jockeys and the BHA had been informed that no disciplinary action would be taken.
The pair have been told that licence applications from them would not be considered in the future unless they attended a stewards’ inquiry first but Dwyer has already publicly stated that he does not plan to return.
When asked about the content of the tape and whether the authority itself would consider taking action, the BHA spokesman, Robin Mounsey, said: “[We] are aware of the audio recording and the fact that it has now been posted publicly does not alter our approach to this matter.
“In the first instance the matter was the subject of an investigation by RWITC. That process was recently concluded. It is BHA policy never to comment on our own investigations or speculation surrounding possible investigations.”
He added: “The RWITC wrote to the BHA to request that we compel Dwyer and Mulrennan to attend a stewards’ inquiry in India.
“The BHA responded to explain that we do not have the power to compel individuals to attend other recognised authorities’ disciplinary proceedings.”
The authenticity of the tape would appear not to be in question with the RWITC understood to have had the recording independently verified.
On Monday the Professional Jockeys’ Association issued a statement on behalf of Dwyer and Mulrennan which read: “Both jockeys were happy to co-operate with the RWITC but had a number of questions before they were willing to fly to India to be interviewed. No disciplinary proceedings were instigated and RWITC have informed the jockeys that they will not be able to ride there this winter until they travel to India to be interviewed.” ============================================
Transcript of Jockeys Paul Mullrenan and Martin Dywers audio conversation Mul: Good mate, much happening? MD: Just on my way to Lingfield…..
Mul: Just at home mate, watching the football – Chelsea are playing aren’t they?
MD: Yeah, they just scored
Mul: Yeah, just been watching the end of a film – Raging Bull. I’m just watching the end of that then the football
MD; What Jake la Motta? ****g great, it’s a true story.
Mul: yeah I know
MD: It’s tomorrow isn’t it, Bombay?
Mul: Bombay, yeah tomorrow
MD: Are you riding that Onassis?
Mul: I ride that tomorrow, yeah
MD: Do you fancy him?
Mul: Yeah he’s come out of his race well anyway yeah
MD: How did he run in the Derby, fourth wasn’t he?
Mul: He finished fourth in the Derby and everyone was saying, he probably didn’t quite stay Martin. He wasn’t beat far.
MD: Yeah you were keen weren’t you?
Mul: Kieran rode him
MD: Oh yeah of course he did, you rode yours didn’t you?
Mul: They all ****g. He kicked Kieran to follow you and then he went to keep Richard in didn’t he
MD: Yeah that right yeah
But I’ve seen him – I haven’t sat on him – I seen him the other morning and he was mad fresh so he’s come out of his race well. Kieran didn’t knock him about.
MD: Eh, right
Mul: I’ve got to ring your man later on. I was speaking to him in the week so I might have a few quid on it tomorrow
MD: Well I’m going to back the filly
Mul: That isn’t much though is it, yours , Icebreaker.
MD: Yeah I thought she’s be a few in. A good filly mate. She gave me a better feel than the horse I rode in the Derby.
Mul: You reckon I should go with that one will I?
MD: yeah my horse I rode in the Derby I mean Onassis is nowhere near as that though is he?
Mul: No he’s not as good - Yeah he’s a long way behind yours isn’t he?
MD: Well this filly is as good as the horse I rode in the Derby.
Mul: Yeah
MD: Yeah she’s going to Dubai I found a race in Qatar that he might run in ****g I think its 160,000 dollars at the end of next month
Mull: I suppose that Icebreaker finished in front of that ****g Desert Dynamite didn’t it at Mumbai? That’s a good horse isn’t it that Dynamite thing isn’t it? Dancing Dyanamite.
MD: Yeah Dancing Dynamite. Listen I rode DD last week and I rode the horse I rode in the Derby and I rode Icebreaker and Icebreaker is by far ****g better. She’s as good as the horse I rode in the Derby, if not better
Mul: Alright then, I’ll leave mine then – I’ll tell him that.
MD: Yeah well er you do what you want but that’s my feeling – especially having a run. I know Kieran wasn’t hard but ****g Onassis had a hard race in the Derby - you can’t cover that distance against them horses at that pace and not have a you know
Mul: Yeah true
MD: this filly is ****g smart and she’s training well and
Mul: I suppose if it’s good enough to beat ****g Dancing Dynamite, that went and won as well as well next time
MD: Yeah INAUDIBLE
Mul: Yeah well Raj backed that for me as well but the other ****g thing got beat but I still ended up even
MD: Yeah I did the same we all did that we just had that in as a saver
Mul: Yeah that’s what I’m going to try to do – just have one bet every now instead of ****g backing two and three chasing your tale
MD: Well you do what you want but if I was you I wouldn’t be backing Onassis against this horse.
Mul: Yeah. How will he ride that Icebreaker – will it be ridden handy?
MD: He’ll do whatever he wants on the day. There’s only 6 runners, so he can do whatever he wants.
Mul: Yeah cos that other thing INAUDIBLE NAME OF HORSE (Paces) will make the running phenomenal
MD: Yeah well he’ll probably take the lead
Mul: That’s a bit last??
MD: Yeah she’s flying. Anyway If I was you I wouldn’t be backing against Icebreaker.
Mul: I suppose, yeah, he only ran a week ago didn’t he fck me?
MD: He only ran a week ago and had a hard race, I don’t care what anyone says. Kieran was there being paid. He had a go
Mul: Yeah he had a go didn’t he?
MD: He had a barging match round the bend with ****g Sylvetser. This filly’s a good filly and she’s fresh
Mul: yeah
MD: You wither want to back the filly or leave it. I wouldn’t want to be backing yours against it
Mul: I’ll do that then – I’ll ring him later on Ive got 8-7 tomorrow so I was gonna meet him tonight but I’ve got 8-7 tomorrow so fck it I’m not going out
MD: Alright well give him a ring, tell him that Pacies will make the running and you’ll probably hold yours up cos that’s what you’re gonna do. Then either back the filly or do what you want to do it’s up to you
Mul: Yeah I’ll do that then I’ll ring him in a bit now after this match
MD: Yeah well we may as well sing off the same song sheet – don’t tell the other cnts, make a few quid for yourself
Mul: I abused the fck out of that fella today……
IRRELEVANT ANECDOTE ABOUT HAVING A GO AT SOMEONE
MD: You’re dealing with mushrooms mate. Speak to that guy again and say, ‘listen mate no hard feelings but I’m not interested. Tell him you’re not interested in gambling I just want to do my job and leave it at that.’ Them mushrooms will get you hung, drawn and quartered.
Mul: He goes what are we doing wrong he says – I am owner, James can say I was speaking to him about his horses. I said I told you, ‘don’t ring him, it’s not rocket science just don’t ring him. He’s just a ****g ****
MD: He’s a ****g mushroom just ****g cut him off and tell him you’re not interested in gambling and you don’t want to know.
Mul: Yup
MD: Just say you want to do your job and leave it at that and say the same to Sham as well
Mul: I was in bed Martin today after riding out and he rang about 17 times. So then I spoke to him later on and went mad at him. He said ‘oh I only wanted to know about Bangalore, you are friends with Dave Allan.’
MD: I said, ‘I told you Dave Allan isn’t ****g interested. What would I talk to Dave Allan about his horses for? I am only interested in my own horses.
MD: Yeah I told you he’s a mushroom – he’s dangerous. Cut him out and if he bothers you any more I will get someone to ring him and sort him out. The cheeky cnt. Idiots like that will get you hung.
Mul: And then five minutes later Sham is on the phone so he’s obviously rang Sham and said blah blah blah. I didn’t answer the phone to Sham – I couldn’t be **** speaking to him.
MD: Just fck him off don’t worry about him, and leave David out the loop – he hasn’t got enough ****g brain cells.
Mul: No I know he’s thick as ****g ****
MD: He’s ****g terrified of Paddy/Padow, he does what he’s told. He tries to win on everything now after what happened to him last year.
Mul: Yeah I never seen it but I heard it was shocking.
MD: Yeah he’s terrified after last year – he does exactly what Paddy tells him. And er he’s going for his life on this mare tomorrow and she’s pretty ****g good. He’s set up for a race.
Mul: If you say that that’s fair enough then. Fine leave it at that
MD: I mean they’ve got an agreement off Sheikh Mohammed to use any ****g Darly stallion (?). They are sending this mare to a Darly stallion so they’re trying to keep her unbeaten and win. So it’s very important that she wins tomorrow .
Mul: Yeah I don’t know what she looks like but I’ve seen his horses. They look well , that Beckett looks a million dollars
MD: Yeah I know he’s pretty good. But like I say they’re sending this to a Darly stallion, they’ve got a programme for her and she should definitely win tomorrow.
Mul: Pacey (?) didn’t even want to run his horse tomorrow – it’s the owner who wants to run it.
MD: Yeah well it’s great because your horse is pushing their price out a bit. There’s no way it’ll back up within a ****g week and beat this filly – she’s got too much class mate so you do what you want you can back the mare and take it out of yours if you want. She’s too good.
Mul: I’ll tell him that. I will just try to ****g sit last mine then – get out of the way
MD: Yeah you just tell him – and this is between you me and him – you tell him what you want and get yourself a few quid out of it and say nothing.
Mul : Yup
MD: Because you can try your best on yours, but it won’t be ****g good enough. I’ll leave it with you – speak to him yeah.
Mul: Yeah spot on thanks Martin, I’ll ring him later on
MD: Alright pal nice one. The prices come about half 8 so ring him about nine o’clock.
Mul: Yeah I’ll ring him later on yeah cos I was gonna meet him and he said meet him between 9 and 10 at the thing the Intercontinental again but I’ve got 8:7 tomorrow and this ****g clash of the titans bollocks so I’ll give it a miss but I’ll ring him later on
MD: Yeah ring him and tell him how you think the race is gonna pan and tell him what you wanna do out but don’t worry about it, it will dead easy
Mul: Yeah how’s your luck been since you’ve been back?
MD: I’ve only been chipping away, because I’m moving house so I’m working on that. If you meet him again meet him down in you know Jazz by the Bay ?
Mul: Jazz by the Bay yeah.
MD: Meet him in there – a ****g smashing little place that. It’s always dead busy. Get a little table in the corner, it’s all the young idiots you know? All the ****g 18 to 20-year olds there’ll be no **** in there you’ll you know. It’s a great place.
Mul: That’s grand, I’ll meet him in there.
MD: It’s a great little place to meet cos it’s full of all the ****g rich kids off their heads. You won’t really see – It’s a nice place to meet there
Mul: Sound
MD: Alright son
Mul: Cheers Martin I’ll speak to you later on
MD: See you later, take it easy mate

Aidan O'Brien is responsible for seven of the 11 horses left in Saturday's Irish Derby, including Epsom hero Australia. Australia: Likely to be a short-priced favourite for the Irish Derby. The Investec Derby winner is likely to be a very warm order to emulate his former stablemate Camelot who completed the Classic double two years ago. While O'Brien will be hoping wet weather stays away for his new star, connections of Derby runner-up Kingston Hill will be keen to see rain arrive to enable a re-match to take place. Kingston Hill is set to take his chance as long, as long as connections deem that the ground is not too fast. "We're looking at the weather. They are saying they could get up to 15mm of rain and if that was the case, we'd love to run if we got good ground or easier," said David Eustace, assistant to trainer Roger Varian. As well as Australia, O'Brien could run Geoffrey Chaucer, who was all but pulled up at Epsom, Kingfisher, Mekong River, Orchestra, Table Rock and War Command, who was a fast-finishing fourth over a mile in the St James's Palace Stakes last week. Dermot Weld's Fascinating Rock, eighth at Epsom and Godolphin's True Story, who finished one place in front of him, could renew rivalry. John Oxx's Ponfeigh, winner of his last two races, is the unknown quantity in the race. Among those taken out at the confirmation stage were Derby fourth Arod, Ebanoran and Hydrogen.

Kingman is likely to take on older horses for the first time in the QIPCO Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on July 30. Kingman is likely to be seen next in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. The John Gosden-trained colt has proved himself as the pick of the three-year-old generation with victories in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the St James's Palace Stakes and will mix it with elder rivals now. "It's a question of working back from there and trying to get it all right." Kingman has an entry in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket but Grimthorpe explained that was purely a safeguard and was now extremely unlikely. "We did give him a July Cup entry before he went to Ireland just as a precaution just in case we'd got it a bit wrong. He is closely related to Oasis Dream (winner for connections in 2003), but is a slightly different horse and his mother was a miler," he said. "I think we will probably shelve that for the time being now that he has proved himself at the highest class at a mile."

Lady Jane Cecil is keen to run Noble Mission in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud this weekend, but only if the ground is in his favour. Noble Mission could run at Saint-Cloud this weekend. Before this season the five-year-old was best known as Frankel's brother, but successive wins in the Gordon Richards Stakes, the Huxley Stakes and the Tattersalls Gold Cup have seen him earn headlines in his own right. Those three wins all came on soft ground and while Cecil feels he does not need it to be seen at his best, she feels it inconveniences others enough for it to be a part of his success. "It's too early to say if he'll run yet," said Cecil. "I believe rain is forecast and the first forfeit stage isn't until tomorrow, so we'll see what the ground is like tomorrow first. "Soft ground isn't essential for him, but it helps him and inconveniences the others.

19:30 Wednesday 25th June Racing Tips - 25/06/2014
Having missed out on Johnston's Aryal yesterday, Snow Squall is of interest today in the Salisbury feature at a healthy price. If Pack Leader weren't likely to give him company for the lead I'd be very confident that he'd make the frame but this might be a bit of a test if they take each other on up top. That should suit Hymenaios at 9/4 who was staying on from the back over 2 furlongs shorter at Epsom last time and will get this extra trip. He has form ahead of Romsdal and being 3lb worse off with Cape Caster today, from that same race, is probably not enough to stop him. The form of his handicap debut is some of the best going too and this is a fair bit easier. A slight reservation is the ground being on the quick side but it was quick at Epsom and didn't seem to bother him. Kinshasa is a big threat but his opening mark looks steep enough at this stage. Salisbury 16.20 - Hymenaios 2pt win
I'm a big Palace fan (horse not football team) but am not sure she should be so short in the market for the Irish Oaks trial at Naas this evening. Her run in the Oaks suggested she doesn't stay a mile and a half, though she was held up at the back when it paid to race handy. This trip will suit her more but she has just 1 win to her name in a pretty weak race and yet she's 2/1. I prefer the form about Carla Bianca who is 5/2 and has just a couple of pounds to find with the favourite on ratings. She disappointed early this year but had got it together last time when winning on similar ground in a very good time and with relative ease. She should sit handy off a good gallop today and will get every little bit of the trip. Her Australia and Rizeena 2 year old form gives her the right to be favourite for a yard that wins this for fun. Circling is definitely a danger back in trip but may not quite have the class of the top 2 in the betting. Naas 19.30 - Carla Bianca 2pt win
There are 5 or 6 that like to go forward in the 17 runner mile handicap at Carlisle today and we should see a solid pace. It could therefore pay to side with something that gets a little further and Ginger Jack, who has won over 9 and was running over 10 on penultimate start, is over priced at 14/1 in first time cheekpieces. This will be the best ground he has faced all year and, though he's won on soft, he's won 4 of his 5 races on a quick surface. He drops into a class 4 for the first time in just under 2 years and is 1lb below his last win. Also worth a cheeky saver, and don't go mad, is Shahdaroba from the widest draw of all. It will be tricky from there but he can drop in off a strong pace and is well treated to go close at 28/1, though he may just arrive on the scene a little too late. The form of his Thirsk run in May really gives him a leading chance but he was poor last time. I topped him then so can't leave him alone today, just in case. Carlisle 16.10 - Ginger Jack 1pt e/w Carlisle 16.10 - Shahdaroba 0.5pt e/w

25 June - ROYAL ASCOT SHINES As expected Royal Ascot served up a bumper five days of top class racing. Edwad Lynam's sprinters are analysed after taking both the King's Stand Stakes and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and Dominic Gardiner-Hill discusses Kingman's winning performance in the St James’s Palace.
Sole Powers on
The Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes was the featured sprint race of the opening day of the Royal Ascot meeting, writes Chris Nash. Sprinters will often remain in training for several seasons meaning that the Group races are often contested by old adversaries. Tuesday’s race was no exception with the first four from the 2013 renewal returning to do battle and Sole Power was able to successfully defend his title.
Sole Power has been a regular in the top level sprints since winning the 2010 Nunthorpe as a three-year-old. I have written about him several times before and the recurring theme with him is that he is very likely to show his form when he gets a strongly run race on quick ground. Conditions were ideal for him on Tuesday and he showed a dazzling turn of foot to go from last with two furlongs to run to win a shade cosily. He has been a model of consistency in the last four years and his mark has always been between 113 and 117 in that period. I have a feeling that this may have been a career best effort such was the style in which he picked up this field and so I have him running a figure of 117+. He is trained in Ireland by Edward Lynam so the ultimate decision on his post-race rating will lie with my Irish colleagues and if they chose to go 118 I would have no arguments.
The runner-up was Stepper Point who was 50-1 but has put in some previous performances that suggested that he had a run like this in him. He had achieved a previous career best rating of 112 but in finishing 1¼ lengths behind Sole Power I have him running to 113 and that will be his post-race rating. A further neck behind him in third place was Hot Streak who had won the Group 2 Temple Stakes on soft ground at Haydock last month after which I rated him 117. He was unable to repeat that effort here and nor was the Haydock runner-up (Pearl Secret) and so I revised my assessment of their achievements there meaning that Hot Streak will now be rated 115.
The fourth (Medicean Man), seventh (Jack Dexter) and ninth (Es Que Love) tried their luck in the 6f Diamond Jubilee on Saturday (a race which is covered below) although none of them were able to run any better than they had on Tuesday. The next instalment of these five furlong rivalries is likely to be in the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood followed by the Nunthorpe Stakes at York in August.
Slade makes it a double
Saturday’s feature race was the six furlong Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes, and in triumphing with the five-year-old colt, Slade Power, it capped off a tremendous week for the Edward Lynam stable, writes Stewart Copeland. They achieved the Group 1 sprint double no less, having been successful with Sole Power in the King’s Stand Stakes earlier in the week.
This year’s Diamond Jubilee didn’t have the International representation we’ve been used to in recent years, with no challengers from the Southern hemisphere to take on the best of Britain, Ireland and France could offer.
However it still looked a fascinating affair beforehand, and produced a result from a handicapping perspective which makes plenty of sense. Slade Power looked a worthy favourite on the back of his taking reappearance win in the Group 3 Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh. The Senior Irish Handicapper had credited him with an improved rating of 119 (up from 115) for that performance, and his decision was fully vindicated with Slade Power’s success.
Chasing home Slade Power was another Irish challenger, the progressive three-year-old colt Due Diligence, who put up a tremendous effort at this level for one so relatively inexperienced. The official margin of one-and-a-half-lengths doesn’t quite do him justice either, as having closed to within a length of Slade Power he was impeded by him, causing him to lose around half-a-length close home. Taking that in to account, it means Due Diligence is credited with a rating of 116. As for the British challenge, that was headed home by Aljamaaheer, a further head behind in third. A 115-rated miler as a four-year-old last year, he’d always left the impression he’d be effective back at this trip, and I’ve took the view he’s run right up to his rating.
Putting the race in to a historical context since it became a Group 1 in 2002, the average winning rating is 117/118, so this year’s renewal looks slightly above average, with the highest winning rating in that period being 121.
From our perspective, even though we don’t publish ratings in Britain for foreign trained horses, we still have to produce a rating for the World Thoroughbred Rankings Committee, and for now I’ve submitted a rating of 119 for Slade Power, which is a figure some of my International colleagues also agree on. A case has been made for slightly higher – my Irish counterparts believe he’s worth 120 – and that’s something which no doubt will be thrashed out at the World Thoroughbred Rankings Conference much later in the year.
Leading Lights the way to another O’Brien Gold Cup
Aidan O’Brien must be getting bored of winning the Gold Cup, writes Stephen Hindle. Successful in four consecutive renewals with Yeats between 2006 and 2009, he also saddled Fame And Glory to win in 2011. Leading Light provided him with winner number six in this event in the last nine years.
None of the victories have come as much of a surprise. Yeats was a 7/1 chance for the first of his wins but since then all five of O’Brien’s winners started favourite, Leading Light just 10/11 at the off this time around. For a while the result looked in some doubt. Leading Light isn’t the most straightforward and he’d have given his backers a few moments of worry, but what he does do is battle, and under strong pressure he dug deep and in the end appeared to get home with a tad to spare.
With that in mind, I called the neck 2lb, rather than the usual one. I went for a figure of 117 for the winner, 1lb below what I now have him running to at Navan on his previous start. That was only a Group 3, but interestingly jockey Joseph O’Brien said after the Gold Cup that he thinks Leading Light is better at shorter and could even be effective at a mile and a half, a full mile short of the Gold Cup trip.
My view is that this year’s renewal was a bit stronger than last year, and I have Estimate repeating her 112 from 12 months earlier - I initially went 114 last year, but the form didn’t work out that well. Missunited almost certainly turned in a career best in third, finishing upsides Estimate and performing to 112 as well on my figures. Brown Panther made a bold show in fourth and left the impression he didn’t stay. I left him on 115 and I expect he’ll have another day in the sun before the season is out.
Simenon hasn’t quite found the same kind of form since finishing second in this race last year, and in finishing fifth this time around he provides another reason for thinking this was probably a better renewal. Oriental Fox, a solid performer in handicaps last season but struggling so far to make a serious impact in better company this term, finished sixth and is another who helps to set the level.
Exciting two-year-olds
The Royal Ascot two-year-old races provide a first real test of all those different lines of maiden form. There will always be disappointments and surprises but this looked a solid bunch, writes Matthew Tester. One of the big surprises was the impressive win for Cursory Glance in the Albany. Her maiden at Kempton really looked nothing special; but the way that she swept by them here suggested otherwise. I have pencilled her in as an above average winner of the race so keep her in mind together with Malobar who caught the eye in fourth.
Richard Pankhurst was another pleasant surprise, in the Chesham. The second and third were the ones which we expected to fight out the finish. Richard Pankhurst had only finished fourth in a Newmarket maiden on his debut. He did not have the clearest of runs here but he mowed the form horses down for a 3 ¾ lengths win and connections can start planning for races at the highest level.
The Wow Factor looks a solid winner of the Coventry but the fact that half a second covered the first eight home suggests that he will need to carry on improving if he is to defy a penalty for this win. The Queen Mary form has a similar look with seven horses finishing within half a second. The form may get tested as soon as Saturday since Littlemissblakeney might line up for the Empress Stakes at Newmarket. At the figure pencilled in she ought to be very competitive there.
I was disappointed by two horses in the Norfolk. The Great War came to win his race but stopped quickly suggesting that there was something not quite right with him and Mukhmal, who has shown plenty of speed, found that it is very tough to win the Norfolk from the front and he could not sustain his gallop. The winner, Baitha Alga, stepped up on his win in the Woodcote and won with some authority but may not have been tested to the full with those two disappointments.
Early days for the two-year-olds but with plenty to be looking forward to in the coming months.
Kingman top of the lot
So another Royal meeting passes with the traditional mix of high class Group races and highly competitive handicaps and once again it was an exciting time to be involved with the miling division, writes Dominic Gardiner-Hill.
Pride of place, not only at a mile but throughout the whole meeting, goes to Kingman who put up the best performance of the week when showing a devastating turn of foot to land the St James’s Palace on the opening day from his old foe Night of Thunder. Whilst it was a very different kind of race to the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May I think it would be churlish at this stage to suggest that Richard Hannon’s colt had not reproduced his 120 figure from that contest, and given the way Kingman ran him down and was a comfortable winner at the line, I have the Gosden colt running to 126. This represents the best winning performance in the race since the turn of the century, bettering those of Shamardal (125 in 2005) and both Rock of Gibralter (2002) and Dawn Approach (2013) who were both assessed at 124 for their winning efforts.
A figure of 126 also already places him in advance of last season’s joint Champion European Milers Olympic Glory and Toronado (125) and I am sure there is more to come – it is going to take an exceptional performance to lower his colours this year all things being equal.
Talk of Toronado brings us neatly to the opening race of the week, the Queen Anne Stakes. At 125 he went into the race rated 5lbs and more superior to all his opponents but without a run since disappointing at York last August; his supporters needn’t have worried however as he landed the spoils by three-quarters-of-a-length from Verrazano. Using third placed French challenger Anodin as a guide to the level, I have Toronado performing to 122 on the day (retains his pre-race mark of 125), with Verrazano stepping up on his Lockinge effort (113) by running 120 in second.
The obvious contest between the generations is once again the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and hopefully both Kingman and Toronado (and maybe even Olympic Glory!) will show up - that should be another race worth travelling a good distance to see.
Whilst the St James’s Palace produced the best winning performance in recent years, the same cannot be said for the fillies’ equivalent, the Coronation Stakes. In a muddling race, I believe Rizeena needed to do no more than reproduce her pre-race rating of 111 to land the spoils – this level has fits in neatly with My Titania (fourth – 106) and J Wonder (seventh – 104) reproducing their current ratings, suggesting French trained runner –up Lesstalk In Paris (held up in a steadily run race) is a pound off her best at 109, with third placed Euro Charline improving 3lb to 109. This represents the lowest winning performance in the race since the turn of the century, being 2lb below that of Maids Causeway (113) in 2005. It was good to see Rizeena back on form after her disappointing run in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas however, and let’s hope she can continue to progress now she is back on track.

Murphy secures juvenile first
Oisin Murphy is already close to beating his first-year total of 41 but he corrected one omission when landing the Ashbrittle Stud British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Salisbury.
The star apprentice had never ridden a winner of a two-year-old race until steering Rod Millman's Indaria (14-1) to a length-and-a-quarter success.
There was some controversy as the wayward-looking runner-up, the 5-4 favourite Prize Exhibit, had unseated Ryan Moore leaving the paddock and run all the way to the start loose. She was allowed to run and was closing at the line.
Cullompton-based Millman said: "She's a nice filly, very quick, and I was just a bit worried she might get tired at the end as she hasn't had a lot of work. I'm just annoyed as I took her out of the Super Sprint at Newbury at the last stage, that would have suited her, but she'll go up in grade somewhere.
"I was quite surprised Oisin hadn't had a two-year-old winner. He's quite a little star, isn't he."
The feature Ashbrittle Stud Bibury Cup has been won by some progressive staying handicappers in recent seasons, like Cafe Society, Whiplash Willie and Hi Calypso, and this year's hero very much followed in that pattern.
Luca Cumani's Kinshasa (9-4 joint-favourite) was having just his fourth start but looked to have plenty of improvement left in him as he pulled through late under Andrea Atzeni.
Sugar Lump (10-11 favourite), a good second on debut at Nottingham, continued a traditional theme of Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes striking at their local course in the New F-Type Coupe At Westover Jaguar Maiden Stakes.
Gabrial The Duke (2-1 favourite) backed up his Leicester win in the Bathwick Tyres Handicap, while Roger Varian's Laftah (5-1) made all the running in the Alan & Thomas Insurance Group Maiden Fillies' Stakes.
Nick Littmoden's Poetic Choice (12-1) pulled tidily away in the New Forest Farm Machinery/John Deere Fillies' Handicap. ========================================== Noble reward for Richards stalwart
There cannot have been many more popular winners of the Cumberland Plate at Carlisle than Noble Alan.
Trained locally at Greystoke by Nicky Richards, the 11-year-old has been a classy hurdler and chaser but has been campaigned mainly on the level of late.
Settled in the rear by Ian Brennan, he could be spotted travelling noticeably well as the field turned into the straight. When Noble Alan was brought with his race-winning move down the outside he drifted to his right, impeding a few rivals but principally Streets Of New York who finished a length and a quarter behind in second.
The manoeuvre brought Brennan a one-day ban.
Noble Alan's owner Craig Bennett was also celebrating at Royal Ascot when Cursory Glance took the Albany Stakes.
"From day one he's been a good horse, I suppose decent ground is the key to him. Our place is made for old horses as they get plenty of variety, they last a bit longer with us if the owners let them," said Richards.
"It's great to win a nice Flat race here, he was too high (in the handicap) last year and had to run in the Northumberland Plate which he quite didn't get home in."
David Nicholls does not have the ammunition that once saw him as a fixture at the major meetings so the victory of Johnno in the £30,000 Bookmakers.co.uk Carlisle Bell was a welcome one.
Nicholls used to farm races like the Ayr Gold Cup and the Stewards' Cup and had a golden touch with sprinters but he will not mind that the Carlisle Bell, his biggest win since Don't Call Me took a major handicap at Ascot in September 2012, is run over just short of a mile.
Settled just behind the front-running Talent Scout by Adrian Nicholls, Johnno was committed well over a furlong out and held off Sound Advice by a length with Balducci third.
"He's a massive horse. He ran at Chester (third) and I didn't think it would suit him, but he's very honest," Adrian Nicholls told Racing UK.
"He's come to my dad and he's done it with many before, he's improved a bit. In the past he's been tricky in the stalls but he hasn't done it with me. My old man doesn't send me out with any orders. We just went a nice even pace and I pinged the gates so I didn't want to go out wide. I kicked on early enough and the old man was probably screaming at me, but I knew we hadn't gone fast.
"He'll be campaigned over seven or a mile, the Ayrshire Handicap might be something for him at the end of the season. Hopefully he keeps going the right way. Times are hard, my wife is my agent now, fields are down, my dad is down on numbers so fair play to Carlisle for putting up money like this midweek."
Elsewhere on the card Jim Goldie and Graham Lee were in double form. First up Rothesay Chancer (16-1) came from last to first to win the Bet On UK Racing With totepool Handicap. Bondi Beach Boy set a blistering early gallop and after being off the bridle early the six-year-old sprouted wings to win going away by a length and a quarter from Boxing Shadows.
"I knew they must have gone quick for him to be outpaced. I noticed the winner of the second race came up the middle so I told Graham to aim for that," said Goldie.
Another For Joe finished off very strongly in the Download The Free App At bookmakers.co.uk Carlisle Bell Consolation Race. Hit hard by the handicapper for a six-length win at Ayr in May, he returned to winning form to defy stall 17.
"I've walked this track many times and it's a good run to the bend, if you're bold enough to let them run down the outside a wide draw is not too bad," said Goldie
"Graham was well impressed because he thought he'd used a lot of horse to get there. We probably ran him back too quick after his win the last time. "
=============================================== Positive bulletin on Inchila
Owner Barry Reilly is optimistic of Inchila making a return to the racecourse next season after she picked up an injury at Royal Ascot.
Reilly, who bred the daughter of Dylan Thomas at his Woodcote Stud in Epsom, saw her finish a slightly unlucky fourth in the Investec Oaks.
Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam aimed Inchila for the Ribblesdale Stakes but she went wrong and was pulled up with two furlongs left.
"She's at the equine clinic near Wokingham, and we went to see her the day before yesterday," said Reilly.
"She had a small fracture of the left wing of the pelvis, it wasn't displaced but she's cross-tied.
"This means she's tied on both sides so she can't lie down but she's allowed a mooch round the box every couple of hours and she's in a nice environment down there. I think she'll have to stay there for about a month.
"She's very quiet but the vets are very confident she'll make a full recovery to race. It's unlikely it will be this season but there'll be no rush.
"Pete's always thought an awful lot of her and hopefully we can look forward to next season. If not, then I look forward to sending her to a couple of top-class stallions over the next few years."
========================================= Dream lives on for Bunbury repeat
Field Of Dream is aiming to supplement his Royal Ascot success with back-to-back victories in the 666Bet Bunbury Cup at Newmarket on July 12.
Jamie Osborne's charge is one of 89 horses still in the frame for the seven-furlong handicap and he will arrive on the back of a famous victory in the Royal Hunt Cup. The seven-year-old bagged Bunbury Cup glory in 2013 with a late burst of speed and he repeated the trick to claim the Ascot prize on the back of a 263-day break.
"The plan is to run Field Of Dream in the Bunbury Cup. He isn't the type of horse to give himself a hard race, but he was very fresh for it and he has been great since," said Osborne.
"In the previous two years he had been to Dubai and not had a proper break. When you bring a horse back from the Dubai Carnival you need a bit of breathing space and (previously) by the time Ascot came around I was just holding him together.
"He will go there on a career-high mark but he is better off running in a handicap off what looks an impossible mark rather than a conditions or Listed event because the key to him is a good gallop - he needs a fast-run race.
"To win it again we will need a lot of luck as he needs the draw on his side, he needs the pace on his side and he needs a lack of traffic.
"I have to say that off a handicap mark of 107 he will be vulnerable to improvers, but we will just chuck him out there and keep everything crossed."
Another Ascot runner set to tackle the Newmarket contest is Georgian Bay, who finished a close-up eighth in the Buckingham Palace Stakes. The four-year-old was beaten just three and a half lengths by Louis The Pious, who is also in the Bunbury Cup, and trainer Karl Burke is hoping for compensation at Headquarters.
He said: "He didn't have the best of runs, he went for the same gap as the horse that eventually finished third and that probably cost him. He definitely goes for the Bunbury Cup and will get an entry for the International Stakes at Ascot, too."
The Richard Hannon-trained Producer currently heads the weights for the Bunbury Cup, with stablemate Professor and Roger Varian's Eton Forever also towards the top of the handicap.
==================================== Young guns given Nunthorpe entry
Ten juveniles have been entered in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York on August 22.
Wesley Ward's Hootenanny, the impressive winner of the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, Eddie Lynam's Queen Mary heroine Anthem Alexander and Richard Hannon's Norfolk victor Baitha Alga have all been given the option of the five-furlong Group One sprint.
Other youngsters in the Nunthorpe mix who ran with great credit at Ascot include Tiggy Wiggy, Mind Of Madness, Snap Shots and Patience Alexander.
John Quinn has entered Pres Rapide and Mick Channon has put in Moonraker, both impressive maiden winners.
Dark Reckoning is the only other two-year-old to have been entered.
The most recent two-year-old winner of the Knavesmire showpiece was Kingsgate Native for trainer John Best and jockey Jimmy Quinn in 2007.
Ward intends to first run his other entry, the four-year-old Undrafted, in the July Cup at Newmarket and he is more likely to take up the Nunthorpe entry than Hootenanny, who has the Gimcrack as his York objective.
"Undrafted is on course for the July Cup and I'm really excited about him. I certainly wouldn't run the two against each other at York," said the American handler.
"We'll just keep our options open, but Hootenanny is scheduled for the Gimcrack. That gives him ample time to get over Ascot. He arrived home in great order.
"I'm really looking forward to running him in all the big two-year-old races at home later in the season.
"He'll get bigger with time, whereas No Nay Never was a real imposing two-year-old.
"The juveniles do get a big weight pull, but in my mind I ask who would win a workout if I put a 135lb rider on Undrafted and 110lb rider on Hootenanny? In my mind, Undrafted probably would.
"You have to ask yourself which would be the easier race, the Gimcrack or the Nunthorpe?
"He (Hootenanny) would be nearly favourite for the Gimcrack. I'd always favour taking the best option.
"I hope his season culminates at the Breeders' Cup on grass, so I want to make the right decisions before we get there."
Dual Nunthorpe winner Borderlescott, now a 12-year-old, is a possible Nunthorpe runner for Robin Bastiman.
Lynam's Ascot heroes Sole Power and Slade Power also form part of a strong Irish challenge that could include Diamond Jubilee runner-up Due Diligence.
The Mike de Kock-trained Shea Shea, who was found to be ill when disappointing at Ascot, Hot Streak, Maarek and Steps are also among the 53-strong entry.
================================== Stellar cast on International beat
Derby hero Australia and Hardwicke Stakes winner Telescope are eyecatching names to feature amongst 37 entries for the Juddmonte International at York on August 20.
Australia is one of a clutch of possibles for Aidan O'Brien, with Ruler Of The World, Magician, Leading Light, Verrazano and Kingsbarns among his older challengers.
O'Brien's three-year-old legion also features Royal Ascot winner Bracelet and Geoffrey Chaucer.
Telescope demolished his rivals in Berkshire, beating fellow Sir Michael Stoute inmate Hillstar in the process, and that pair are both entered for the 10-furlong feature, which is worth a record £800,000 this term.
Stoute has another interesting string to his bow in Arab Spring, who triumphed at handicap level at Ascot.
Noble Mission could try to emulate his brother, Frankel, who won the race in 2012, while Richard Hannon has entered Night Of Thunder and Shifting Power.
Al Kazeem, third in the race last year and only recently back in training with Roger Charlton, is also in contention .
Derby second Kingston Hill, Prince of Wales's Stakes winner The Fugue and French Derby scorer The Grey Gatsby are also possible runners.
======================================= Baccarat moving out of handicaps
Wokingham winner Baccarat is likely to have run in his last handicap for some time after a hefty rise in the weights.
Richard Fahey's sprinter landed the competitive Royal Ascot heat off a mark of 105 but has been put up 7lb by the assessor following his latest display.
Fahey will have discussions with Baccarat's owner Sir Robert Ogden before coming up with a plan.
"He's gone up to 112 now so that probably rules out handicapping for a while," said the Malton handler.
"We'll just have to sit down and think a few things over and see what there is for him.
"I've a few ideas running around in my head, but I need to speak to Sir Robert first."
==================================== Duke blow for Fahey
Duke Of Clarence will miss the John Smith's Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday after he suffered a season-ending setback.
Trained by Richard Fahey and owned by Dr Marwan Koukash, the five-year-old finished seventh in the Chester Cup, was narrowly beaten by subsequent Royal Ascot winner Arab Spring at York and also filled the runner-up spot in a valuable race at Newmarket.
However, plans have now been scuppered for the rest of the year.
"He definitely won't be running at Newcastle," said Fahey.
"By the time he comes right again, the season will be virtually over so we'll draw stumps with him.
"I'll look at getting him back for the Chester Cup again."
Fahey is instead likely to be represented in the Pitmen's Derby by Angel Gabrial, also owned by Koukash and second in the Chester Cup.
================================== Canarias to take July challenge
Spanish speedster Noozhoh Canarias is on target for the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on July 12, for which 29 possible runners remain.
Having helped set a scorching gallop, the Enrique Leon-trained three-year-old came home sixth in the 2000 Guineas. That form could not have worked out any better, with three horses in the race subsequently winning Classics.
"Noozhoh Canarias will be travelling over to England again for the Darley July Cup," said Leon.
"He has been working well and I believe that he is bigger and sharper now than he was before the Guineas. I am very happy with the way he has developed.
"He has already done something no Spanish horse has done before (in being beaten just over four lengths in the Guineas) and it has since been proven as a very strong piece of form.
"He was only a couple of lengths behind (Derby winner) Australia and had (French Derby hero) The Grey Gatsby behind him.
"Maybe if Kingman had not pressed him for the lead as early as he did, Kingman might have won the Guineas and we would have finished even closer.
"He is the type of horse who tries extremely hard and puts a lot into his races and needs space between each run.
"Royal Ascot came a bit too soon for him and if we wanted to run him at a shorter distance and keep him at Group One level the Darley July Cup was the obvious race for him.
"The July Course should suit him and the team at Newmarket treated us beautifully so I am very happy to go back there.
"He is a horse that has always had a lot of natural speed and now I want to see him able to really use it. On pedigree, I thought that he would be suited by a minimum of a mile but what he has done on the racecourse suggests that he will prove better over shorter.
"He has given Spanish racing a huge boost. Since the Guineas, a number of people have come up to me at the races in Madrid and said that they have been inspired to come racing for the first time by Noozhoh Canarias - that is the best thing about him as far as I am concerned."
Eddie Lynam's Royal Ascot winners Sole Power and Slade Power remain, along with Diamond Jubilee runner-up Due Diligence.
Wesley Ward's Undrafted is on target to travel over from America, while the likes of Hot Streak, Pearl Secret, Maarek and Kingsgate Native could all be involved.
====================================== Lynam makes Melbourne Power play
Trainer Eddie Lynam plans to send Slade Power to Australia for the 2014 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
The Diamond Jubilee Stakes winner will next be seen in the July Cup at Newmarket, where he is due to run against stablemate Sole Power, who expertly claimed back-to-back renewals of the King's Stand Stakes last Tuesday.
But Lynam has even more ambitious plans later in the year, with Slade Power earmarked for the Group One VRC Sprint Classic over six furlongs on November 8. The five-year-old entire could go head to head with Australian sprint sensation Lankan Rupee in the penultimate leg of the Global Sprint Challenge.
Lynam told Sky Sports Radio in Australia: "I hear you have got a very good sprinter (Lankan Rupee) over there but we'll give it a go. We've been doing a bit of research into him and he might not be Black Caviar but he's very, very good and he's going to be a hard nut to crack. We're not afraid to lose, so we're going to give it a go."
Sole Power has also been invited to run at Flemington, but he is more likely to compete in the Hong Kong International Sprint at Sha Tin in December.
The County Meath handler said: "I think the Hong Kong Sprint would suit him more. I won't rule out going to Melbourne with him just yet but I'd imagine he'd probably go to Hong Kong."
Leigh Jordon, international recruitment officer for Racing Victoria, is optimistic Slade Power will end up at the Spring Carnival.
He said: "I spoke to trainer Edward Lynam. We just talked on the logistics about when he's due to go into quarantine and it's all very positive. He's spoken with the connections and they're looking very positively about bringing Slade Power down for the VRC Sprint, which is a great result.
"We had Lucky Nine come down last year as a previous Global Sprint Challenge winner and Slade Power was very impressive winning the Diamond Jubilee and overall he's got very good form. In his last seven starts he's won a Group One, the Diamond Jubilee, he's won the Ascot Champions Sprint last October on their Champions day and he's been placed behind Gordon Lord Byron in the Haydock Sprint.
"It's a terrific result if we can get Slade Power out here - I think it will add a lot of interest to the sprints. He's also a stallion as well and that may also be a part of their thinking that he's probably, definitely, a future stallion prospect as well. It all lines up well, that was definitely in Edward's mind as well and for connections."
Lynam confirmed Slade Power was likely to have his swansong in Australia.
He said: "That'll probably be the last race of his career."

York Racecourse has increased the prize money for all three Group One contests at The Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival and has welcomed the very strong list of entries for these prestigious contests. Australia has been given an entry in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York. The richest race ever staged at York will be the Group One Juddmonte International, the showpiece of the opening day on Wednesday 20 August; at the first entry stage 38 of the top middle distance horses in the world have signalled their focus on the record £800,000 pot (up by £50,000) and the chance to join a roll of honour that includes the mighty Frankel. An eye catching entry is Noble Mission, brother of the 2012 champion and already a Group One winner in the same green and pink colours of long time race sponsor, Prince Khalid Abullah. Trained by Lady Cecil, the colt may face stiff opposition from the other leading racing operations as Aidan O’Brien has entered Investec Derby winner, Australia for Coolmore and True Story carries the blue silks of Godolphin for Saeed bin Suroor. The prospective field already has an impressive haul of 23 wins at the highest level between them, with previous York winner, The Fugue having four to her name. Classic winners aplenty have indicated their interest in the Knavesmire feature but there would be a local’s cheer if French Derby hero, The Grey Gatsby, were to return to win over the same course and distance as his Betfred Dante success in May, the colt is trained thirty miles from the track by Kevin Ryan. On every day of the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival the feature contest will receive a boost, with the Darley Yorkshire Oaks attracting the best middle distance fillies in competition for £330,000. Thursday’s feature race may see a return to York for Ambivalent; the Roger Varian trained winner of the Betfred Middleton, who will need to step up in class again to defeat the clutch of Classic and Group One winners that may form her final opposition from the thirty-four contestants at this stage. The last two Investec Oaks champions, Taghrooda and Talent are joined by last two winners of Royal Ascot’s Ribblesdale Stakes in Bracelet and Riposte. The fastest race of the York season, the Coolmore Nunthorpe, is often the decisive leg in the search to crown the champion sprinter and a case could be made for many of the fifty-two entrants. Among them are five winners from Royal Ascot (Sole Power, Slade Power, Hootenanny, Anthem Alexander and Baitha Alga); as well as two further horses that join Sole Power in already having the York sprint feature on their CV, Borderlescott and Kingsgate Native. The latter won back in 2007 when aged just two, a feat that some ten entrants this year are seeking to repeat. Local trainers share fourteen of the entries hoping to keep the lion’s share of £265,000 in the home county as the race flashes in front of Friday’s crowd. All three races are part of the British Champions Series and form part of a fascinating twenty-five race programme that sees the Betfred Ebor form the highlight of the final day on Saturday 23 August.
