Phoenix on Alexander radar
Eddie Lynam has had a bit of a rethink over his initial plans for Queen Mary Stakes winner Anthem Alexander.
Lynam had considered sending her to Newmarket for the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes, formerly known as the Cherry Hinton, next month.
However, that would be her fourth run since May 24 and the trainer feels it may be asking a little too much, so she could instead wait for the Group One Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on August 10.
"She's come out of the race brilliantly, we've got her home and trotted her up and there's not a bother on her," said Lynam.
"I'll have to talk to her owner (Noel O'Callaghan), but if we went to the July meeting that might just come a bit quick. Ascot was her third run in four weeks and she might just benefit from a break.
"My impulse would be to miss Newmarket and wait for the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh as that would give her an extra three weeks off.
"I'll have to check with Mr O'Callaghan, though, he pays the bills so it will be his decision."
========================================= Varian monitors Curragh ground
Fast ground at the Curragh next weekend for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby could be a concern for connections of Investec Derby runner-up Kingston Hill.
Roger Varian has been delighted with the condition of his colt since he was beaten a length and a quarter by Australia at Epsom, but is not keen to run him on quick going.
Varian did, however, offer the caveat that as long as the ground was good he would have no trouble taking on Australia once more.
"He's in good shape. I've been really pleased how he's taken the Derby run. He looks great," said the Newmarket handler.
"We've got one eye on the Curragh next weekend and one eye on the weather.
"We wouldn't be afraid of taking on Australia there, but if it was good to firm, I'm not sure. If we could get good, fair ground we'd run, though we would like it better than that."
======================================= Fallon stood down after fall
Kieren Fallon was stood down for the rest of the afternoon after being unseated on leaving the stalls in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Fallon had been booked by American trainer Kenny McPeek for his filly Rosalind, but she jinked markedly when the gates opened and stumbled, firing the veteran Irishman out of the side door.
The jockey could be seen holding his neck when he was walking away from the incident, and his ride on Hatsaway in the following Queen's Vase was taken by Liam Jones.
Fallon, who was on the mark with Elite Army on Thursday, said: "I'm fine, my neck felt a bit stiff but I had some physio and I think I'll be OK for tomorrow. I'm just sorry for Kenny and the team after they took her all the way from America."
============================================== Bookies take Ascot revenge
Bookmakers finally clawed back some of the losses from what had a been a punter-friendly Royal Ascot as the six races on day four of the showpiece meeting failed to produce a single winning favourite.
For the first time in the week, the opening race was a positive result for the bookmakers as 14-1 chance Cursory Glance swooped late, and the momentum stayed with the layers thanks to Contributer (9-1) in the Wolferton Handicap and Eagle Top (12-1) in the King Edward VII Stakes.
Rizeena was a top juvenile but a reverse in the 1000 Guineas saw her returned at 11-2 in the Coronation Stakes, and Hartnell (7-2) landed the Queen's Vase before Louis The Pious delivered a final blow with a 33-1 shock in the concluding Buckingham Palace Handicap.
Rory Jiwani of StanJames.com said: "The bookies got off to a good start as 14-1 shot Cursory Glance took the Albany, although she had been supported in from 20-1 on the show.
"Contributer foiled the gamble of the day in the Wolferton Handicap with Ed Dunlop's charge coming from last to first under George Baker to deny Bold Sniper.
"The punters then went in for Adelaide in the King Edward VII Stakes, but the 6-5 favourite was only second behind impressive 12-1 winner Eagle Top. We laid John Gosden's charge early on, but the money for Aidan O'Brien's jolly meant he was a winner in the book at the off and another good result on the day.
"We had kept on the right side of favourite Lightning Thunder in the Coronation with My Titania by far our worst loser, but we got another result as Rizeena bounced back to her best.
"Marzocco was the only bullet we had left to dodge in the Queen's Vase and he came up short too as Mark Johnston took the race yet again with Hartnell, who we had deliberately kept on side."
Betfred spokesman Andrew Griffiths said: "It was a long time coming, but results have finally gone our way. We hardly had a losing race all afternoon and the balance sheet is beginning to look much healthier as we head into the final day."
Paddy Power said: "We were beginning to feel like the England football team after Epsom and the first three days, but today was a cracking day for the bookies and it's punters resembling Roy Hodgson as they make their way home."
Joseph Burke of RaceBets said: "Today was the day the bookmakers fought back. Having been on the ropes after the first three days, the layers took an early lead in round four with two quick jabs (Patience Alexander and Bold Sniper) followed by an uppercut courtesy of the defeat of Adelaide in the King Edward VII Stakes.
"W e were surprised with the money that came for Lightning Thunder and she became the fourth consecutive favourite to be beaten, only beating two home.
" Marzocco's third-place finish was a further clear connect to punters' chins on a day where the bookmakers were heading for a unanimous decision before a win for Louis The Pious in the Buckingham Palace delivered the final knockout blow."
=========================================== Pious produces Palace surprise
Louis The Pious caused a 33-1 shock in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot to give David O'Meara another feather in his cap.
Second in the Ayr Gold Cup last year, he was a welcome winner for Silvestre de Sousa, who has found his role diminished at Godolphin in recent weeks.
To cap off a great race for O'Meara, he also saddled the third, Watchable, while s andwiched between the pair was Horsted Keynes, who absolutely flew from the back under Jamie Spencer to give the jockey yet another second for the week.
Marcus Tregoning's Bronze Angel was prominent in the closing stages and just clung on for fourth and while it was a blanket finish for the places, the winner shot clear a furlong out and had three-quarters of a length to spare at the line.
De Sousa said: "That was great. I've been here for the last three days and I'm just glad to ride a winner. David said to me he could run a big race. He just told me to switch him off and come with a late run. I think I got there a bit too soon, he was just looking around, but I'm absolutely delighted.
"I felt they went pretty quick. He gave me a great ride. He was off the bridle the whole way but he was comfortable at his speed. When I asked him to quicken up, he picked up too well, but he kept rolling and thank goodness he got there."
O'Meara added: "I'm absolutely delighted. We ran two in the race and the other guy (Watchable) has finished third.
"Danny (Tudhope) chose Watchable, but Silvestre has been connected with us for quite a while now, even before he started riding for Godolphin. He's a world-class jockey, gave him a great ride and I'm delighted for him and the owner Frank Gillespie.
"We've come here the last couple of years with runners and horses have run well without even being placed. To have a winner today is great.
"Louis The Pious has got two ways of running. On his day he can be very good. He was second in last year's Ayr Gold Cup, so he's got a lot of ability if he gets out of bed the right side."
======================================== Contributer delivers for Dunlop
The Queen had to settle for second again at Royal Ascot as Bold Sniper was passed inside the final furlong by Contributer in the Wolferton Handicap.
Just 24 hours after Estimate went down fighting in the Gold Cup, Bold Sniper was favourite to go one better for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore.
In what was a bit of a messy race Contributer (9-1) was settled stone last by George Baker, who had never previously ridden a Royal Ascot winner, and he showed a splendid turn of foot to overhaul the leader and score by half a length.
Trainer Ed Dunlop had endured a miserable first half of the season, with many of his horses suffering from a bug, and Contributer was stuck in the mud at Sandown last time out.
There was a length and three-quarters back to third-placed Cafe Society, who will now head back to Australia with new trainer Gai Waterhouse.
Baker said: "I've had so many seconds here I thought it was never going to happen, but it's fantastic to win one.
"This horse ran on very heavy ground at Sandown behind Noble Mission. If he hadn't run there, he'd have been a lot shorter in the betting.
"It was a good performance. I was drawn very badly and Mr Dunlop told me to ride the race as it happened. I took my time and it all went to plan."
American owner George Bolton added: "This is the highlight of my racing career. To come over to Royal Ascot and win a race is very exciting. We've had some nice horses (in America), but not in 20-horse fields turning for home! I'm so proud of him (Baker). I thought he was too far back, but he's given him the perfect ride."
Dunlop said: "This is a big deal. It's been a tough year. This is George's first horse in England and he's won at Royal Ascot, so I'm delighted for him and the horse.
"We've always thought a lot of him. He was second to Magician in the Dee Stakes and ran very well against Noble Mission at Sandown.
"He carried a lot of weight today, he's a Group horse. He's come from last and he's a good horse. He was always my best two-year-old."
Waterhouse is eyeing a future tilt at the Melbourne Cup with her new recruit Cafe Society.
She said: "I think he's a really exciting horse and that was a very solid run. We'll keep him ticking over until the first lot of horses leave England for quarantine and then I'll bring him down and assess him and start to make a plan. Hopefully he might be a Melbourne Cup horse in a year's time."
====================================== Hartnell claims dramatic Vase
Hartnell gave Mark Johnston his seventh victory in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot after surviving a stewards' inquiry.
Joe Fanning had the 7-2 chance in the perfect position throughout, just behind the leaders, but when Marzocco and Century moved up to challenge on the home bend the rider had to sit and suffer for a few strides to wait for a gap.
When it came Hartnell shot clear, yet just as it looked as if the race was over he began to idle and drifted off the rail. Century was coming with a powerful late run and the two came together just before the line, with a neck separating them, and the stewards were forced to look into the interference before the placings were announced as unaltered.
The two-mile contest for three-year-olds has been a good trial for the Gold Cup in recent years, with Estimate and Leading Light both going on to bigger things after winning this Listed prize.
A decent two-year-old last year, the winner was slightly disappointing at Epsom first time out but ran a fine race when second to Snow Sky in the Lingfield Derby Trial.
Johnston said: "I was choking a bit there. There weren't too many anxious moments during the race, but I was anxious when he veered across in the last half-furlong. I couldn't see which hand Joe had his stick in, so I was very worried. Joe said he felt he'd rode within the rules. Hopefully it's the right decision. I think it is.
"It's very unusual for a gap to open up on the rail as easily as it did, but when it came he shot through it.
"That (the St Leger) is definitely the target. Whether he'll run in between now and then, I don't know, but that was the target before the race."
========================================== Glance lands Albany blow
Cursory Glance maintained her unbeaten record and dented some lofty reputations in the process by running out an impressive winner of the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The finish looked set to be fought out between the giant American filly Sunset Glow and David Evans' 9-2 joint-favourite Patience Alexander as the pair began to pull clear on entering the final furlong.
However, Andrea Atzeni, riding his first Royal Ascot winner in a breakthrough season, brought his mount through to challenge and when she picked up the Kempton winner (14-1) was always going to reach the front two, and she finished two lengths ahead.
There was strong money all day for David Wachman's Sexy Legs, but she never looked like taking a hand in the finish, while Sunset Glow battled back past Patience Alexander to claim second.
Atzeni said: "It's great. I had some good rides through the week and I was hoping to get a winner.
"She wasn't the quickest out of the stalls, but she travelled really good and from two down I got on the quarters of the American horse. She quickened away from me, but my filly has outstayed them. She's a very nice filly and we've always liked her."
Part-owner Craig Bennett added: "We bought her mother in 2006 and she was always better than she showed, but she was a bit of a madam. Jamie Spencer said to me she'd breed us a champion as she saves so much for herself, and here we are. To win at Royal Ascot is a dream."
Varian, recording the second Royal Ascot winner of his career, said: "It's terrific. To have winners here means everything and I'm very excited for the owners.
"I was saying earlier in the week Friday and Saturday were our bigger days. Friday has come along and we've had to start walking the walk, but we've always thought a lot of this filly. Her homework has been exceptional. She was very green when she won at Kempton and she's come on a lot.
"We got her from the States in November. I rang Craig and said we've got a good filly here. That can be dangerous saying that to owners and it's not like me to do it, so I'm so pleased it's worked out.
" We think she'll get further. Andrea said he thought he might not get to the American filly (Sunset Glow), but he's outstayed her. I'm not sure where we'll go from here. We'll just digest this and take it from there."
Sunset Glow's trainer Wesley Ward added: "It was a gallant run. She's probably the most talented of the group I brought here this year.
"She likes fast ground - I walked it this morning and I was sinking in, it probably hadn't had enough time to dry out. I understand why they water for safe ground, but it's a killer. She'll stay a mile, and six furlongs at Ascot this early on is like running a mile."
Evans said of Patience Alexander: "She just got outstayed. A furlong out she looked the winner, but she's a good filly. We could go to the Molecomb."
======================================== Top strike for Gosden and Buick
Eagle Top was a hugely impressive winner of the King Edward VII Stakes to give John Gosden a third success of the week at Royal Ascot.
Aidan O'Brien's Adelaide was backed almost to the exclusion of everything else as the 6-5 favourite, and everything seemed to be going well when Joseph O'Brien made a move on the bend on the market leader.
But William Buick tracked him through and had yet to ask for an effort on the son of Pivotal (12-1), who moved up effortlessly and pulled three and a quarter lengths clear of Adelaide, with Scotland running on into third.
Eagle Top, who is related to Oaks winner Sariska, won a Newbury maiden on his racecourse debut yet was beaten in a Leicester handicap last time out, when he apparently had excuses.
Buick said: "We've had so much belief in this horse and there were reasons why he ran poorly at Leicester last time. He came here, he didn't turn a hair and was very relaxed. He's got all the attributes of a top, top racehorse.
"They went a gallop, as you would expect in a race like this, but he made up a lot of ground in a short space of time. I couldn't believe how easy I got there, really. This horse - you'll be hearing a lot more from him."
It was a first Royal Ascot winner for owner-breeder Lady Bamford, who said: "I feel weak at the knees. I don't know what he (Eagle Top) feels like! He has a beautiful trainer, a trainer in form and he was a very unexposed horse, but my goodness he showed his form today, didn't he?"
osden, on the mark on Tuesday with Kingman and 24 hours later with The Fugue, said: "What we've always liked about him is his ability to quicken. He really has got a turn of foot.
"He won well at Newbury and then we went to Leicester. He scoped and everything was fine before the race, but he ran a very flat race and there were some very long faces coming home. Two days later his blood was literally upside down, so we gave him a lot of time off and if we could make it here we could.
"He's trained beautifully up to the race and he handled this faster ground. He's a proper racehorse, a really classy horse and it's great for the owner-breeders. It's great to have them here winning the Ascot Derby."
A sked about a potential tilt at the St Leger, Gosden added: "I'd prefer to keep this horse at a mile and a half. You've seen that turn of foot and that class. I don't mind going fancy in the autumn, but at a mile and a half."
Gosden won the King Edward in 2011 with Nathaniel, who went straight to the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, where he beat Derby hero Workforce.
Asked if the midsummer showpiece could be an option for Eagle Top, Gosden told Racing UK: "I think we should wait and see (on plans). I don't like to make bold statements (after a race). I think it's fair to say all options should remain open.
"I think Romsdal and the horse that won at Doncaster the other day (Forever Now) are more Leger types."
O'Brien said of the runner-up: "Delighted with him, he's only a baby at the moment." Asked if he would go down the Leger route, he said: "We'll see. He likes good ground."
Scotland's trainer Andrew Balding was pleased with the effort of his colt. He said: "That was a smashing run. Looking at that, maybe I should have run him in the Queen's Vase, but he wasn't giving the impression he wants two miles. I imagine he'll go for a Leger trial now."
==================================== Coronation crown for Brittain
Clive Brittain declared "I'm back where I belong" as he stood in the winner's enclosure as an 80-year-old Royal Ascot victor.
His powerful three-year-old Rizeena (11-2) had just returned to her very best to beat a competitive Coronation Stakes field by three-quarters of a length and leave her puzzling performance in the Qipco 1000 Guineas well behind.
The earliest riser in Newmarket is as constantly upbeat as he is popular, and his belief in the filly who took last season's Queen Mary and Moyglare had not wavered as he watched Ryan Moore pilot home the latest of more than a couple of dozen Group Ones in a training career which began in 1972.
Kieren Fallon was unseated on leaving the stalls from the American raider Rosalind and first My Titania and then J Wonder found themselves slightly unwilling leaders.
This season's Classic crop of miling fillies has not unearthed an undoubted star, with Rizeena a moderate seventh in the Guineas and missing the Irish equivalent with a nosebleed.
Moore moved from third to the front a furlong from home and had plenty of support from Rizeena to pull away from Euro Charline, while French challenger Lesstalk In Paris was gathered up for a burst a little too late and closed in for second.
Brittain, who was not quite mobile enough to pull off his traditional victory jig, said: "I've still got the vibes. If you get up at 3.30am every morning you've got to have the vibes.
"I was disappointed after the Guineas and it was a matter of getting her confidence back as well as mine. I went to the doctors, and they fitted me with cheekpieces!
"Ryan rides her, he doesn't tell stories and he told me she was back to her best. We could have won the Irish 1,000 Guineas, I was certain we could have gone to France, but we went to Newmarket.
"The only thing at the back of my mind was that three times already she'd been to Newmarket and three times she hadn't won. Maybe it's the undulations and the downhill. But I was confident before the Guineas and I was confident today. She just had to turn up and do what she can do."
Brittain was brave with three other top-drawer fillies he trained, Pebbles, Sayyedati and User Friendly, and he will be as brave campaigning Rizeena.
He said: "I've never been frightened of one horse and I'd not be afraid of taking on the colts again like we did last year. I think we'll come back here for the big meeting (Champions Day). The QEII, why not?
"I've only got two good three-year-olds, her and Bravos, who was beaten by the ground in the Jersey Stakes. I've got 21 two-year-olds and I've turned them over now. I've got some quality and I think eight will be Listed or Group class."
Moore, who is enjoying a good Royal Ascot, said: "It's great for Clive. I've had a few early mornings (on the gallops), but it's worked out in the end!
"She was the best filly last year. She won the Queen Mary. It's good for her to come back. I'm delighted for everyone. It was a long way that last furlong, but she was the fastest horse in the race and she's just done enough."
Jean-Claude Rouget, trainer of Lesstalk In Paris, said: "I like my horses to run well and this was a good recovery for her today as we were so disappointed after the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French Guineas). You're always asking yourself questions after a run like that and she was in season as well.
"The form line of her win in the Prix de la Grotte was not working out good, but today we are reassured about her. I think we will stick to our garden and run her in Deauville next, in the Prix Rothschild."
Euro Charline belongs to the American-based Team Valor syndicate and trainer Marco Botti said: "The owners are aiming to run her at Saratoga in July, so I will lose her. She was probably a bit unlucky. The gap came a little tight and she had to squeeze through and Andrea (Atzeni) said she just lost her momentum and it probably cost her second place."

Ascot, 20 June 2014
2.30, first race
The Stewards considered the running of ELITE GARDENS (USA), ridden by Kieren Fallon and trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, which finished unplaced. They noted the trainer’s representative could offer no explanation for the filly’s performance. They ordered ELITE GARDENS (USA) to be routine tested.
3.05, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Sampling Officer that Adam Kirby had been unable to provide a urine sample and now wished to leave the course so as to ride at another meeting. They interviewed the rider and the Sampling Officer. Having heard their evidence the Stewards accepted the rider’s explanation that he was unable to provide a sufficient sample as he had been riding at a low weight and had run out of time to do so as he needed to leave the course immediately. Under Rule(B)8, the Stewards granted him an exemption from providing a sample.
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, CONTRIBUTER (IRE), ridden by George Baker and trained by Ed Dunlop, compared with its previous run at Sandown Park on 25 April 2014 where the colt finished third of five, beaten 18 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the colt was better suited by the ground which was good to firm. They ordered CONTRIBUTER (IRE) to be routine tested.
3.45, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Frankie Dettori, the rider of BUNKER (IRE), from approaching two furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they accepted his explanation that he did not strike the colt down the shoulder with the whip in the forehand position and found him not in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2.
They further enquired into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, EAGLE TOP, ridden by William Buick, had interfered with ADELAIDE (IRE), placed second, ridden by Joseph O’Brien. The Stewards found Buick in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift right-handed away from the whip. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.
4.25, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the unseating of Kieren Fallon, the rider of ROSALIND (USA), leaving the stalls. Having viewed recordings of the incident the Stewards found that the fall was caused by the filly stumbling and pulling the rider over her head. Being satisfied that no other horse or rider was involved, the Stewards took no further action.
They further noted that interference took place between EURO CHARLINE, placed third, and J WONDER (USA), unplaced, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
5.00, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference on the run to the line. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, HARTNELL, ridden by Joe Fanning, had interfered with MARZOCCO (USA), placed third, ridden by William Buick and then with CENTURY (IRE), placed second, ridden by Joseph O’Brien. They were satisfied that the interference was accidental in that Fanning had taken all reasonable steps to prevent the interference from occurring. They were also satisfied that the interference had not improved HARTNELL’s placing and so ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
5.35, sixth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, LOUIS THE PIOUS, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa and trained by David O’Meara, compared with its previous run at Ascot on 10 May 2014 where the gelding finished twenty-first of twenty-five beaten by 20¼ lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding was inconsistent. They ordered LOUIS THE PIOUS to be routine tested.
They further enquired into possible interference approaching the two furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that BRONZE ANGEL (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Martin Dwyer, had interfered with INTRANSIGENT, unplaced, ridden by Oisin Murphy, who then interferes with JACK’S REVENGE (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by Pat Cosgrave, who then interferes with RUSSIAN REALM, unplaced, ridden by Ryan Moore. The Stewards found Dwyer in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he manoeuvred right-handed when not sufficiently clear. They suspended him for 3 days as follows: Friday 4, Sunday 6 and Monday 7 July 2014.
They also enquired into the use of the whip by Dwyer from 1½ furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Dwyer for 4 days as follows: Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9, Thursday 10 and Monday 14 July 2014.
20/06/2014
Redcar, 20 June 2014
2.20, first race
The Stewards noted that YAWAIL, unplaced, had interfered with KING COUTURE (IRE), unplaced, three and a half furlongs out, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
3.30, third race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, GABRIAL’S HOPE (FR), ridden by Franny Norton and trained by Tracy Waggott, compared with its previous run at Carlisle on 26 May 2014 where the gelding finished last of ten, beaten 22 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that GABRIAL’S HOPE (FR) had settled better on this occasion and was more suited by the flat track. They ordered GABRIAL’S HOPE (FR) to be routine tested.
4.10, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Tom Eaves, the rider of SOUND ADVICE, placed second, approximately one furlong out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip without allowing his mount time to respond. The Stewards suspended Eaves for 3 days as follows: Friday 4, Sunday 6 and Monday 7 July 2014.
20/06/2014
Goodwood, 20 June 2014
6.15, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, GOLDEN JOURNEY (IRE) ridden by Ryan Tate and trained by Clive Cox, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer who stated that the colt was better suited by the quicker ground on this occasion. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of GOLDEN JOURNEY (IRE) could be reviewed.
The Stewards noted that the winner, GOLDEN JOURNEY (IRE), had interfered with HEDGE END (IRE), placed second, on the run to the line, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved GOLDEN JOURNEY (IRE)’s placing.
6.45, second race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, CHEVISE (IRE), ridden by Cam Hardie and trained by Steve Woodman, compared with its previous run at Goodwood on 22 May 2014 where the mare finished 9th of 10, beaten by 10½ lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the mare was better suited by the good ground on this occasion.
7.50, fourth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, LION BEACON, ridden by Seb Sanders and trained by Mrs Amanda Perrett, compared with its previous run at Newmarket on 31 May 2014 where the gelding finished 6th of 9, beaten by 19 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding was better suited by the good to firm ground on this occasion. They ordered LION BEACON to be routine tested.
20/06/2014
Newmarket, 20 June 2014
5.55, first race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, ROXY LANE, ridden by Josh Baudains and trained by Peter Hiatt, compared with its previous run at Southwell on 4 March 2014 where the mare finished tenth of ten. They noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that the mare benefitted from the 108 day break and a return to the turf. They ordered ROXY LANE to be routine tested.
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approaching the two furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that AVIDLY, unplaced, ridden by Shelley Birkett, had interfered with BUZZ LAW (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Rob J. Fitzpatrick. The Stewards found Birkett in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that she allowed her mount to drift right. They cautioned her as to her future conduct in races.
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Rob J. Fitzpatrick, the rider of BUZZ LAW (IRE), unplaced, had failed to ride out to the winning post. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race they noted his explanation that he felt that the horse had gone wrong behind, which he reported at scales.
6.30, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Martin Harley, the rider of the winner, LUNGARNO PALACE (USA), from inside the two furlong marker. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Harley for 2 days as follows: Friday 4 and Sunday 6 July 2014.
7.05, third race
The Stewards noted that BRITISH ART, placed second, had interfered with MR SHEKELLS, unplaced, who in turn interfered with GUIDING LIGHT (IRE), unplaced, passing the two furlong marker, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved BRITISH ART’s placing.

Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that ENGLISHMAN, place second, ridden by Jamie Spencer, had interfered with MAID A MILLION, unplaced, ridden by Joey Haynes. STAT WATCH.
While form can only tell you what's happened previously, having an idea of which trainers are currently in form, or which jockeys have the best record at a certain racecourse, can help you to keep on the win- ning track. With relevance to this Saturday's televised races, this column highlights the current trends.
Saturday marks the last day of Royal Ascot and the racing, as usual, is first-class. Many trainers aim their horses for this big week in June every year and there are definitely certain trainers that need to be kept on the right side of when the top hats get an airing. John Gosden, who is in terrific form at present and frequently gets a mention in this column, has a very good record at Royal Ascot and his 16% strike-rate is impressive. Unsurprisingly, Aidan O'Brien is another who has an excellent record at the Royal course and many a stallion reputation can be made or lost during this massive week. Gosden has Blessington in the Wokingham Stakes and O'Brien will be hoping that one of his four entries in the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes can make their mark. Of the last ten winners of the Golden Jubilee Stakes, only Clive Cox (Es Que Love) and Aidan O'Brien (Darwin, Due Dilligence, Fountain Of Youth and Guerre) have runners this year. Kevin Ryan has never won this race, but he enjoyed his first Classic success recently and he is double-handed with Hamza and Hot Streak. Another factor to consider when assessing this world-renowned sprint race is that six of the last ten winners have triumphed at odds of 10/1 or greater. With Johnny Murtagh now having retired from the saddle, Richard Hughes is the jockey to watch at Ascot. Richard Hannon always pro- vides Hughes with an abundance of riches to ride and with the Herridge team in sparkling form at present, Hannon Jnr could enjoy a first Royal Ascot, as a trainer, to remember. Prince Khalid Abdullah is the owner to keep on the right side of and his horses, particularly those in training with John Gosden and Lady Cecil, are worth noting. Sir Michael Stoute has a terrific record in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes (3.45) with four win- ners in the last ten years. This year he saddles Hillstar and Telescope. The latter has a similar profile to his other winners of this race and he looks to be an interesting contender. Stoute is another trainer who seems to come alive at Royal Ascot and with his retained jockey, Ryan Moore, currently sporting a 23% strike-rate, things are looking promising in one of the biggest weeks in the racing calendar. =======================================
NOTEBOOK.
We highlight a selection of the runners from the past week’s races who may be ones to watch out for in future races.
Leicester's evening meeting on Saturday may not have been bursting with quality, but there were a few interesting races and one who caught the eye in the mile and a half handicap was the James Fanshawe-trained WALL STREET BOSS . A winner on the all-weather at Kempton last autumn, this big, rangy son of Street Boss looks to have some further improve- ment in him and despite losing out by a head at Leicester, he is likely to improve with racing this summer and a step up in trip could also help. On the same card, Julie Camacho's ILLUSTRIOUS PRINCE landed the feature race. This seven-year- old remains well handicapped and he can go in again this summer when the ground is not too quick. PILLAR BOX was an impressive winner of an interesting median auction sprint maiden for juveniles at Bath last weekend and should continue to make hay this summer. The second-placed JIMMY'S GIRL ran with credit and she can be competitive in sprint nurseries this summer. The ground at Bath was firm, so connections will be hoping for a hot summer. A valuable seven furlong handicap at Chester saw an impressive winner in the shape of Dubai Dynamo, but it was the third-placed horse who caught the eye. David Nicholls's JOHNNO ran off a mark of 81 here and ran a blinder. This son of Excellent Art is a big horse and the track would not have played into his hands. Considering he was slowly away too, it was no disgrace to be beaten just over two lengths by the favourite. A similar handicap beckons. Mark Johnston's TANSEEB ran well in defeat at Sandown last weekend on the step up to a mile which was definitely to his liking. Richard Hannon's Sea Shanty won the 0-100 handicap, but Tanseeb's performance hinted that there was more to come from this three-year-old son of Royal Applause. Richard Fahey's SUPER QUICK ran well on her debut at York last weekend and this 86,000 euro purchase will show her true colours when stepped up in trip as she is bred to stay middle distances. The winner, PALLISTER , trained by Mark Johnston, can win again. ========================================

Ascot's clerk of the course Chris Stickels says he does not plan to water the track again before racing on Saturday. The weather has been favourable at Royal Ascot all week long. After a further 4mm of artificial irrigation was applied to the straight course after racing on Thursday, conditions remain 'good to firm, good in places on the round course' before racing on Friday. "We watered the straight course last night and put 4mm on to maintain the Good to Firm going," reported Stickels. "There was no watering of the round course and there are no plans to water any part of the track this evening. The forecast is for it to stay dry and while there is a slight chance of rain this evening, any amount that arrives will be negligible." Stickels is responsible for the turf management of the course at Ascot as well as racing operations and his working day during the Royal Meeting starts at the crack of dawn when he first walks the track. "I get to the course around 5.45am when I first walk the course and then I'll walk round it once more at around 11am just after the gates open. "I usually finish at around 8pm but it all depends on what is happening really. For instance, we were watering last night so I got back at around 8.30pm, watched the second-half of the England game and then headed back to make sure everything was fine. "We've been very happy with the racing surface this week. We started the meeting on good ground on both the courses but obviously it's got a little quicker as the week has gone on. "There's not too much of a debrief on Saturday evening when the action draws to a close as we usually save that for Monday morning. I just usually head home around 8ish and try and enjoy the evening - though I'm usually too tired to do much."

Connections of Inchila issued an upbeat bulletin on Friday morning after the talented filly suffered a suspected pelvic injury at Royal Ascot. Inchila is set to be transferred to Newmarket for X-rays The Investec Oaks fourth, trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam, was pulled up over two furlongs out of the Ribblesdale Stakes on Thursday and was taken to veterinary hospital by horse ambulance. Inchila will soon be transferred to Newmarket for X-rays. Barry Reilly, manager of owners-breeders Woodcote Stud Ltd, said: "It's looking really good, to be fair. "She was tied up overnight, which is what they have to do with them sort of injuries. But she was let down this morning and was walking in her box and putting weight on it, which is always a good sign. "She had a comfortable night and is not taking any more painkillers. She's a calm filly in her demeanour so she will be a good patient. "We are planning to take her to Newmarket as soon as possible for a bone scan, but it's positive [news], rather than negative, that's for sure."

View from connections ahead of Saturday's Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot. Alan King could be all smiles if Tiger Roll can take the nightcap Alan King's Tiger Cliff is the clear top-rated horse in the final race of Royal Ascot, the Queen Alexandra Stakes - the longest race on the Flat calendar. Winner of the Ebor last year when trained by Lady Cecil, he was sent to King by owner Henry Ponsonby for a hurdling campaign. Unfortunately he never got to run over obstacles this winter due to one thing or another but he has run very well in two starts for King this season. Narrowly beaten in the Group Two Yorkshire Cup by Gospel Choir and Tac De Boistron, he was fifth behind Brown Panther at Sandown most recently, and was second to Well Sharp in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting last year. "Tiger Cliff comes out the best horse in the race on the ratings, so, hopefully, he will be right there at the finish," said King on his website, www.alankingracing.co.uk. "He was not stopping at the end of two and a half miles in last year's Ascot Stakes, so we don't see the trip being a problem, and, though it was soft when he won the Ebor, he did win on fastish ground at Newmarket last summer. "He ran well enough in the Henry II Stakes at Sandown last time on gluey ground, and he goes there in good nick." Willie Mullins runs Pique Sous in a race he won with Simenon just two years ago. Pique Sous, a classy hurdler, had been out of action since September due to colic before a decent reappearance last month. Steve Massey, spokesman for owners Supreme Racing Club, said: "He's travelled over well, he's in great form and everyone involved with the club is really excited and looking forward to the day. "He ran a nice race at the Curragh on his first run back, he's done well since and he has his ground for the first time in a long time. "He's been a great horse for us, taking us to Cheltenham and Galway, and now to have a runner at Royal Ascot in the club's second year is really a dream come true. "The trip is a bit of an unknown, but he wasn't stopping when he came up the hill to finish third in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham over two miles and his half-brother Pancake was a three-mile chaser. "He has to improve on what he's done so far, but we're hopeful he can and we have a top jockey (Ryan Moore) who knows the track well. "He's won on the all-weather, on the Flat and over hurdles, so he's a versatile horse and hopefully he goes there with a major chance." Frankie Dettori has enjoyed a good week and is relishing being back in the limelight. He has been booked by William Jarvis for Argent Knight and the trainer hopes a bit of the Italian's magic will rub off on him. "Argent Knight takes his chance in the Queen Alexandra. The trip is an unknown for most of the field but I am reasonably confident that Argent Knight will stay," said Jarvis on www.williamjarvis.com"Frankie Dettori has been riding in great form during the meeting and if all falls right for him, I think he will outrun his odds." Andrew Balding's Whiplash Willie has shown he retains all his ability despite two years off the track and his third in the Henry II gives him strong claims. Ed Dunlop's Mubaraza has run well in a handful of big staying handicaps, Nicky Henderson's Royal Irish Hussar showed decent form in juvenile hurdles while Aidan O'Brien runs El Salvador.

17:35 Saturday 21st June Royal Ascot Day 5 Preview
I haven't found a 2 year old winner all week and so it's probably best to leave the Chesham alone. However, with the Ward pacey types drawn in 10 and 11, I can't help but think that Mick Channon's first string filly Juventas could go well at a price. She will get this trip and plenty more on breeding and I liked the way she pricked her ears and ran on when winning at Newmarket in an ok time. It's not form to set the world light but there's not much of that on show here from this side of the Irish Sea. The Irish form is standout and one of the 2 Irish runners may well win but they are well found. Juventas can certainly outrun her 20/1 price. Fillies have won this twice in 10 years and the yard sent out a useful one yesterday that was 4th in the Albany. There are so many unknown quantities in this that I couldn't take 5/2 about the favourite. Royal Ascot 14.30 - Juventas 0.5pt e/w
Elidor should go well in the Duke Of Edinburgh having won the George V Stakes here last year off 11lb lower but there are likely better handicapped horses. I can see why Arab Spring is popular but quick ground is a potential worry and Hamelin is a better option. He probably needed the run first up over course and distance and the softening ground was certainly against him. By Cape Cross, this ground is ideal and he could be very smart. 6/1 is well worth taking. The one at a price of particular interest is Havana Cooler who is somehow 18/1. He won first up last term and looks the sort to improve as a 4 year old. Soft ground wasn't ideal on his last start back in August but he is surly ahead of a mark of 97. The form of his 3rd on penultimate start is very strong with Pether's Moon winning a Listed race, Van Percy winning off 3lb higher and Bold Sniper going very close yesterday off 3lb higher. Cumani has had a few ready first up of late too. Eshtiaal also hails form a strong form race and looks well treated but the ground might not be ideal. Royal Ascot 15.05 - Hamelin 2pt win Royal Ascot 15.05 - Havana Cooler 1pt e/w
Telescope probably wins the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes but I've lost out on him twice this season and am not about to go back in. He will be better for the extra 2 furlongs and better for better ground but there are still more tempting bets elsewhere. Pether's Moon is just that as, though he may be just short of this class, he deserves to have another go on the basis of his 2nd to Gospel Choir at Newmarket. He was below his best last time but the run came quickly on ground on the slow side and I'm convinced he will prove himself a better horse than Gatewood in time. He was giving the winner 3lb too. A sterner test will help this afternoon and he's a nice price at 11/1. Dandino goes fresh and could be worth a saver though he may find one too good as was the case last year. Royal Ascot 15.45 - Pether's Moon 1pt e/w
The Diamond Jubilee is not a vintage renewal but it is nonetheless fascinating. The 2 3 year olds at the bottom of the market could really mix this up and I'm tempted to back both. Of them I really like Due Diligence at 8/1 who will love the quick ground and could take some catching if getting away well. We've seen 3 of the last 4 winners virtually make all in this and there's not a great deal of pace on. Music Master keeping him company up the stand's side will be no bad thing either. Astair would have gone up if the ground was slower but this might be quick for him and he does have a bit to find with Slade Power on form with Maarek. He was getting 10lb form Maarek at York when beaten and gets just 7 from Maarek conqueror Slade Power this afternoon. 3 year olds did win this in consecutive years in 08 & 09 however, and the allowance can be very useful in the absence of an older star performer. Slade Power deserves to be favourite but was well held in this last year and I can't back him at his price. Aljamaaheer is bred to be a miler and may just come up short. The other worth a go is Darwin who is seemingly the Joseph O'Brien choice and who beat Gordon Lord Byron with ease back in July, albeit in receipt of 12lb. He flopped on return this season but the ground was against him and he should be better today in first time tongue tie (interestingly both O'Brien horses are fitted with one of these). He won't lead but could just get a nice tow through from Astaire and he's overpriced at 16/1. Royal Ascot 16.25 - Due Diligence 1pt e/w Royal Ascot 16.25 - Darwin 1pt e/w
There's not a great deal of pace on in the Wokingham and I can't find any draw bias with regards to pace, which appears to be coming from stalls 7, 10, 19 and 26. We have seen stands side favoured all week but that has been over further and where the pace and class has often been drawn in double figures. Should jockeys have a preference for running in a straight line today, a middle group could come off best given where the pace is, as we saw 12 months ago. We shall see... I do like York Glory's chances given he is drawn in amongst pace and won last year. This could be a stronger renewal however, and he is 8lb higher. As it happens my other 4 on the shortlist are drawn middle to high. Seeking Magic has a win in him off this mark but is too often unlucky and may just want more of a pace to aim at. He just misses out to Ninjago who is also finding it tricky to win but is a classy animal and not harshly treated off 2lb higher than when narrowly missing out at Newmarket. He was badly drawn that day but not so today with Zero Money just up on his outside. If a middle group form I think he wins and 10/1 is no bad price. Absolutely So is very tempting on ground that may well suit him better than that which he faced when winning last time out and an 8lb penalty may not stop him. Pick of the prices however is Alben Star who recorded his last win with Paul Hanagan on top and who may prove well drawn if we do see a stands side convergence. He was sent off favourite last time out when never getting into it at York but that was over 5 furlongs and he's better at this trip. He was unlucky on penultimate start when proving he handles quick ground and is a nice price at 20/1. Royal Ascot 17.00 - Ninjago 1pt e/w Royal Ascot 17.00 - Alben Star 1pt e/w
Tiger Cliff looks a very likely winner of the Queen Alexandra and I hope so for Alan King's sake. However, I can't force myself to back him at 7/2 in a race with a few unknown quantities. He's best on ratings but Pique Sous is a lurking danger for the yard that won this with a similar, if younger type 2 years ago. The one I think it's worth backing is Brass Ring at 9/1. He had a Coronation Cup entry earlier this season and was to take his place in the Yorkshire Cup over 1 mile 6 before swerving it for better ground over a little shorter at Newbury the following day. He looks every inch a stayer but is quirky and the first time hood has to work t give him any chance. The ground is a big plus and he could be a Group winner if placed right. It's whether he matures and improves for the marathon trip which, on breeding, he might. Mubaraza is another that could improve for the trip and it's worth noting the yard sent out another winner yesterday and are finally back on song. He has some form to find with the favourite though. Royal Ascot 17.35 - Brass Ring 1pt e/w

Ryan Moore has a fantastic chance of claiming the top jockey honours following his third winner of the week on Friday, and here you can read the Betfair Ambassador's exclusive thoughts ahead of his six rides on the final day of the Royal meeting...
14:30 Ascot - Cordero
Toscanini and last week's Navan winner Dick Whittington set the form standard in here and both have obvious claims but, as with all juvenile races here this week, finding dangers isn't a hard task. I ride Wesley Ward's newcomer Cordero, so it was encouraging to see one of his run away with the Windsor Castle on Tuesday, though a couple have disappointed since.
I don't know too much about him at the moment but I hear that he has been settling in and going quite well since arriving from the States, and he is certainly the part on paper, being a Giant's Causeway half-brother to a Breeders Cup Juvenile winner in Halfbridled. I wouldn't worry about the fact that he wears a tongue tie and blinkers first time up; there is no stigma in wearing headgear in the States.
15:05 Ascot - Arab Spring
This horse has excited me since I first sat on him and his progress this season hasn't surprised me at all. In fact, I was a little bit disappointed that he only won narrowly at York last time. Even though the form of that race is ok - the runner-up finished a good second at Newmarket next time - I don't think you saw him at his best that day. But, as the boss said after the race, he is a still a big baby and learning all the time.
On the face of it, an 8lb rise for that 1/2 length victory at York looks harsh - and it is, on the bare form - but I still think that a mark of 104 underestimates his potential, and he is one of my better chances of the week. Really fast ground would be a worry, though, and I suppose the only other negative could be that he is an inexperienced horse and these handicaps are often rough races. But I can see him developing into a proper Group horse in time.
15:45 Ascot - Telescope
It is time for the real Telescope to stand up and be counted, and I think that he just might on this faster ground. Don't get me wrong, the likes of Hillstar, Sharetan and Ektihaam are proven Group 2 horses and Telescope comes here with something to prove after two decent, if unspectacular, efforts behind Noble Mission this season. But those runs came on soft ground, and I think you will see a better horse on this better ground.
He actually doesn't have too much to find on form as it stands - Noble Mission went on to win his Group 1 at the Curragh next time and is clearly much-improved - and his work leading up to this gives me plenty of hope that he can go close to winning this. But it wasn't a straightforward choice between him and Hillstar, and I think both have leading chances, and hopefully the stable will have a 1-2.
16:25 Ascot - Due Diligence
I think Slade Power and Aljamaaheer could be the two to beat in here - the latter goes well at the track, though it is a little bit surprising to see him fitted with blinkers - but I have chances on Due Diligence. I do think that 3yos are generally at a disadvantage against these experienced older sprinters in these Group 1s but my horse was very impressive when making all and bolting up in the soft at Naas last time.
Aidan is of the opinion that he will be even more effective on this faster ground, so that looks a plus, too, so he has chances in a typically competitive race. I am not sure why they have fitted him with a tongue tie for the first time but I don't think that it is anything to get worried about. Of the others Astaire, back on 6f on fast ground, is another with a decent shout.
17:00 Ascot - Professor
Makes a quick reappearance after finishing second at Salisbury on Sunday, so I don't know if this is an afterthought or planned. He has backed up relatively quickly before though. And he has won on his only start at this course, and on fast ground, too. I certainly don't think that he is the best handicapped horse in here, far from it, but conditions should suit, as should a strongly-run 6f. As for the opposition, any of the 30 runners can win.
17:35 Ascot - Pique Sous
I won this race for Willie on Simenon a couple of years ago, so hopefully we can be competitive again. He didn't show much over 1m4f in the soft last time, but this longer trip and faster ground is what he needs, and he will certainly get that here. Clearly, he has a lot to find on form with the likes of Tiger Cliff, but these marathon races can be a great leveller, so we will find out who can grind it out best.

Mick Winters will leave it up to Missunited's owner to decide whether to let the admirable mare defend her Galway Hurdle crown after going so close to Gold Cup glory at Royal Ascot. Missunited could return to Galway The seven-year-old gave Winters his second successive victory in the Galway Hurdle last summer, following on from Rebel Fitz's triumph 12 months earlier, and has since carried that momentum forward to run some fantastic races on the Flat. Despite winning Leopardstown's Saval Beg Stakes earlier in the month, Missunited was a 40-1 outsider for Thursday's two-and-a-half-mile showpiece, but ran a storming race under a brilliant front-running ride from Jim Crowley, beaten just half a length into third by hot favourite Leading Light and defending champion Estimate. Winters said: "It was a great run and you'd have to be delighted with her. "They got into a bit of a barging match there at the finish, but she ran a great race, she's well in herself and her legs are as cold as ice. "She's a big, strong mare, she's easy to train and you'd have to say she's still improving. "She won't be going anywhere for three weeks and the owner will pick out the races, but I'd say she'll get the entry in Galway and we'll see how we go."

Jockey Raul da Silva appears to have escaped serious injury following a nasty incident at Redcar. Jockey Raul Da Silva: Taken to hospital Da Silva was due to ride the Geoff Oldroyd-trained newcomer Bon Empire in the six-furlong maiden at the Tees Valley circuit, but was kicked in the stomach by his intended mount in the parade ring. The rider was taken to James Cook University Hospital for precautionary checks, but his agent, Andrew Lewis, believes he has suffered only minor injuries. Lewis said: "I believe he was kicked just as he was about to get on board, but I've spoken to Geoff Oldroyd and he tells me Raul is basically fine. "I think he's quite badly bruised, but his injuries aren't bad and he has just been taken to hospital to make sure there's no internal bleeding." There was further drama as Rob Fitzpatrick fell after passing the post in front aboard Dancing Juice in the concluding five-furlong handicap. The apprentice was attended to by racecourse doctors, but walked away unscathed.

Owner Sabena Power and trainer Eddie Lynam completed the remarkable feat of winning both of Royal Ascot's Group One sprints with two different horses. Slade Power: Matched stablemate Sole Power with a Royal Ascot Group One win of his own Sole Power had been quickly ruled out of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes after being tired from his success in Tuesday's King's Stand, but the two years younger, but unrelated, Slade Power was more than ready to step into his shoes. The only difference was it was Wayne Lordan in the saddle rather than Richard Hughes, and the 7/2 favourite was ridden more prominently and to less dramatic effect than the fast-finishing Sole Power, but it was the same outcome as he strongly repelled Due Diligence and obliged by a length and a half. As Sole Power is the five-furlong specialist and Slade Power has his first top-level victory at six, it would appear easy for Lynam to keep them apart, but they will meet once again in next month's Darley July Cup at Newmarket. The junior member took third and the old man fifth in last season's renewal. It prompted joyous celebrations for Irish bookmaking family the Powers, with this ranking as a similar achievement to that of the Australian Choisir, who collected both races in 2003, a year after the Diamond Jubilee had been promoted to a Group One. The family have just a small handful horses at Lynam's County Meath stable, while the trainer had also won Wednesday's Queen Mary Stakes with Anthem Alexander. "This one's very special as we bred him," said Lynam. "They're special owners, and I'm lucky to have special staff, special horses and a great family to back me up. It's just a coincidence, I've got two very good horses and they'll both run in the July Cup. "Sole Power will wear the first colours as he's the elder statesman and the stable pet. "Trainers get 10 per cent (of prize-money) for a reason - it's only 10 per cent to do with us. "It's been a great week and there is nowhere I like winning more than here. I love the place." Power's son, Paddy, said: "This is the family week of all time. Two Royal Ascot winners - it just doesn't happen. We were quite confident he'd come on from his first run at the Curragh. It's very special." Check out Sky Bet's July Cup antepost market here! They had to wait to celebrate as a stewards inquiry was called but the result then quickly confirmed. The 14-runner field split into two groups, but it soon became evident that the quintet on the near side were always chasing the game and Due Diligence's jockey, Ryan Moore, was aware of this and nudged towards the middle of the track with three furlongs to run. The War Front colt was snatched up by the winner very late in the piece, but it made little difference to the outcome, while reborn sprinter Aljamaaheer finished a head head away in third. Lordan, who got a one-day careless riding ban (July 6), said: "He travelled real well, I got there a little bit soon and he rolled around with me, but I had plenty left and I'm delighted. "From early in his career he gets a little bit warm (before a race). If he wasn't doing it I'd be worried. "It feels great. We don't come across these horses too often that can come and compete and when they win it's even better." It would appear the second and third will also be bound for Newmarket on July 12. Due Diligence is a very lightly-raced American recruit for trainer Aidan O'Brien, who said: "It was his first time with the older sprinters and really we couldn't be happier. "We would have preferred the field to have stayed together. He was a little bit lonely out there and Ryan said he was wanting to drift towards them, but we're delighted. "His last two runs were against three-year-olds and they have to step up against the hardened sprinters. We felt he would learn a lot today and hopefully he did. "We look forward to him next time. The lads will discuss it, but it (July Cup) looks the obvious thing for him." Roger Varian was delighted with the effort of Aljamaaheer and said: "I wished it had been six and a half furlongs. "I believe he will have his day. It was a good run and we're now thinking of the July Cup and the Maurice de Gheest at Deauville. "It was only his second run of the year. It was a good run, but he hasn't quite got that sprinters' mentality." The Henry Candy-trained Music Master finished fourth, having raced away from the main group for much of the contest, while the well-backed French runner American Devil was fifth. Sky Bet were suitably impressed with the winner, cutting him to 7/2 favourite from 5/1 for the July Cup, while Due Diligence is 6/1 and Aljamaaheer 7/1.

Ascot, 21 June 2014
2.30, first race
The Stewards noted that, approaching the 1½ furlongs out JUSTICE WELL, placed fifth, had shifted sharply left and interfered with CROWN THE KITTEN (USA), unplaced, who then interfered with CORDERO, placed sixth, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved JUSTICE WELL’s placing.
3.05, second race
The Starter reported that ONE PURSUIT (IRE), trained by Brendan Powell, was the subject of a third criteria failure. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
4.25, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference on the run to the line. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, SLADE POWER (IRE), ridden by W. M. Lordan, had interfered with DUE DILIGENCE (USA), placed second, ridden by Ryan Moore. The Stewards found Lordan in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift left away from the whip. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Sunday 6 July 2014.
5.00, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into two possible incidents of interference.
In the first incident in the first half furlong, having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that RIVELLINO, placed third, ridden by William Buick, had interfered with DUNGANNON, unplaced, ridden by Thomas Brown, who then interfered with YORK GLORY (USA), unplaced, ridden by Jamie Spencer. The Stewards found Buick in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he steered left-handed when not clear. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Sunday 6 and Monday 7 July 2014.
In the second incident approaching the five furlong marker they found that DUNGANNON had interfered with DANDY BOY (ITY), unplaced, ridden by Pat Dobbs. They found Brown in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that having initially suffered interference, he then steered right-handed to go to the far rail taking DANDY BOY (ITY) off its intended line. They suspended him for 3 days as follows: Sunday 6, Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 July 2014.
5.35, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Clerk of Scales that Tom Queally, the rider of TIGER CLIFF (IRE), placed fourth, had been unable to weigh in owing to his mount collapsing shortly after the line. Being satisfied that Queally was justified in not weighing in and that the correct weight had been carried throughout the race the Stewards, in accordance with Rule (B)14.4, confirmed the placing of TIGER CLIFF (IRE).
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Saleem Golam, the rider PETARA BAY (IRE) had failed to dismount his horse when it appeared to have gone lame. They interviewed the rider and the Veterinary Officer, who confirmed that on examination post-race he found the gelding to be lame. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (D)45.4 and suspended him for 10 days as follows: Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Monday 7, Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9, Thursday 10, Friday 11, Saturday 12, Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 July 2014.
21/06/2014
Ayr, 21 June 2014
3.35, fourth race
The Stewards noted that BEAUMONT’S PARTY (IRE), unplaced, had interfered with LOVE MARMALADE (IRE), unplaced, who in turn interfered with SAN CASSIANO (IRE), unplaced, approaching the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
4.15, fifth race
The Stewards noted that there was interference between the winner, BURNING THREAD (IRE), and DOCTOR PARKES, placed fourth, shortly before the winning line, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved BURNING THREAD (IRE)’s placing.
4.50, sixth race
The Starter reported that SWAN SONG, trained by Andrew Balding, refused to enter the stalls. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the mare could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, HAY CHEWED (IRE), ridden by Tom Eaves had interfered with INYORDREAMS, placed second, ridden by Dales Swift, who in turn interfered with VALONIA, placed fifth, ridden by Frederik Tylicki. They found the interference was accidental.
5.25, seventh race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, SPIRIT OF ALSACE (IRE), ridden by Jack Garritty and trained by Jim Goldie, compared with its previous run at Musselburgh on 13 June 2014, where the filly finished sixth of twelve, beaten approximately 5½ lengths. They noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that SPIRIT OF ALSACE (IRE) benefited from the step up in trip. They ordered SPIRIT OF ALSACE (IRE) to be routine tested.
21/06/2014
Redcar, 21 June 2014
3.55, fourth race
The Stewards noted that GO GLAMOROUS (IRE), placed fourth, had interfered with the winner, MONEY TEAM (IRE), approaching the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
4.30, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the fall of Connor Beasley, the rider of MITCHELL, on leaving the stalls. They interviewed the rider. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the incident the Stewards found that the fall was caused by the gelding jumping awkwardly and colliding with the side of the stalls causing him to become unseated. Being satisfied that the incident was accidental, the Stewards took no further action.
5.40, seventh race
Rob J Fitzpatrick, the rider of the winner, DANCING JUICE, was unable to weigh in having been unseated after the line and then was unable to catch the gelding. The Stewards were satisfied that the correct weight had been carried throughout the race and, in accordance with Rule (B) 67.9, confirmed the placing of DANCING JUICE.
21/06/2014
Newmarket, 21 June 2014
5.50, seventh race
The Stewards noted that BALTIC BRAVE (IRE), placed third, had interfered with SKATERS WALTZ (IRE), unplaced, who in turn interfered with SHOWPIECE, placed fourth, approaching the one furlong marker, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved BALTIC BRAVE (IRE)’s placing.
21/06/2014
Lingfield Park, 21 June 2014
6.05, first race
The Stewards noted that TAPER TANTRUM (IRE), placed second, had interfered with AZURE AMOUR (IRE), placed third, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved TAPER TANTRUM (IRE)’s placing.
6.35, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Andrea Atzeni, the rider of the winner, JALADEE, from two furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Atzeni for 2 days, Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 July 2014.
7.35, fourth race
Stuart Williams, the trainer of WELEASE BWIAN (IRE), declared a tongue strap in error. Under Schedule (B)4 5.7, the Stewards gave permission for the gelding to run without a tongue strap and fined him £140.
8.05, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Clerk of the Scales that Martin Lane, the rider of ARCHDUCHESS, placed second, had weighed in at 8st 9lb having weighed out at 8st 7lb. They interviewed the rider, Rae Guest, the trainer and the Clerk of the Scales. Having heard their evidence the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)67.4.3 and suspended him for 3 days as follows: Sunday 6, Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 July 2014.
9.05, seventh race
The record of vaccinations in the passport of CITY OF ANGKOR WAT (IRE), trained by Jo Hughes, did not comply with the Rules of Racing. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Rule (E)18 and fined her £140.

Haydock Park, 21 June 2014
6.50, first race
The Stewards noted that the winner, STEVE PRESCOTT, had interfered with FRANK THE BARBER (IRE), unplaced, who then interfered with BLUE EYED BOY, unplaced, on leaving the stalls, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved STEVE PRESCOTT’s placing.
7.50, third race
The Stewards noted that there was interference between the winner, KINGSCROFT (IRE) and POSTSCRIPT (IRE), placed second, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the race they were unable to apportion blame.
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, KINGSCROFT (IRE), ridden by Jacob Butterfield and trained by Michael Herrington, compared with its previous run at York on 14 June 2014, where the gelding finished thirteenth of eighteen beaten 6¼ lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that KINGSCROFT had encountered a troubled passage in that event and that the run was better than the bare form. They ordered KINGSCROFT to be routine tested.
8.20, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that VOYAGEOFDISCOVERY (USA), placed second, ridden by John Fahy, had interfered with MARINERS MOON (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Daniel Tudhope. The Stewards found Fahy in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he made a manoeuvre to his right causing interference. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Sunday 6 and Monday 7 July 2014.
They also noted that the winner, LESHA (IRE), and EL BAU (IRE), placed third, had both interfered with MARINERS MOON (IRE), unplaced, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved either LESHA (IRE) or EL BAU (IRE)’s placing.
They further noted that JAAHIEZ (USA), unplaced, had interfered with DESERT SOCIETY (IRE), unplaced, inside the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

Da Silva in the wars at Redcar
Jockey Raul da Silva appears to have escaped serious injury following a nasty incident at Redcar.
Da Silva was due to ride the Geoff Oldroyd-trained newcomer Bon Empire in the six-furlong maiden at the Tees Valley circuit, but was kicked in the stomach by his intended mount in the parade ring.
The rider was taken to James Cook University Hospital for precautionary checks, but his agent, Andrew Lewis, believes he suffered only minor injuries.
Lewis said: "I believe he was kicked just as he was about to get on board, but I've spoken to Geoff Oldroyd and he tells me Raul is basically fine.
"I think he's quite badly bruised, but his injuries aren't bad and he has just been taken to hospital to make sure there's no internal bleeding."
There was further drama as Rob Fitzpatrick fell after passing the post in front aboard Dancing Juice in the concluding five-furlong handicap.
The apprentice was attended to by racecourse doctors, but walked away unscathed.
======================================== Embattled layers duck for cover
Bookmakers were left licking their wounds at the end of Royal Ascot after a bruising final day for the layers.
The victories of odds-on favourites Toronado and Kingman got the week off to a flying start for punters and the likes of Gold Cup hero Leading Light and the gambled-on Cannock Chase proved big losers for the bookmakers before a little respite on Friday eased the pain.
Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore engaged overdrive on the final day with 11-4 favourite Arab Spring and 7-4 market leader Telescope turning the screw for punters, and satchels were emptied further as Slade Power justified 7-2 favouritism in the Diamond Jubilee.
David Williams of Ladbrokes said: "Its been a pretty rough week, all told. On reflection we only found a tatty old plaster on Friday when what we actually needed was full-scale surgery.
"We'll take our medicine and pray that the summer improves. After a costly Epsom we were hoping to claw it all back during the Royal meeting, but we could scarcely have been more wrong. We had one good day on Friday, but the other four days were rank bad."
It was a similar tale of woe for Stan James, with spokesman Rory Jiwani saying: "A succession of winning favourites has been the theme of Royal Ascot this week and that was the case today.
"We thought we were back in the game yesterday but we've well and truly done our proverbials again on the final day."
Paddy Power added: "Epsom and now Royal Ascot, where the bookies enjoyed catastrophic first and last days, have been a betting bonanza for punters and the 2014 Royal fixture won't be fondly remembered in the annals of bookmaking history."
Joseph Burke, of RaceBets, said: "Friday was a brilliant afternoon for RaceBets following a terrible opening three days, but wins for three favourites today in addition to the very-well-supported second favourite Pique Sous in the last meant bookmakers were properly caned over the course of the week.
"That's what happens when 11 favourites and three joint-favourites win. This seems to be happening more and more of late at these big festivals and we attribute that to the excellent, in-depth coverage provided by the media in the lead-up to the meetings.
"Bookmakers will certainly be glad to see the back of Royal Ascot for another year, that's for sure."
============================================== Moore and Stoute scoop gongs
An early double for Ryan Moore and Sir Michael Stoute was enough to seal the Qipco-sponsored top Royal Ascot jockey and trainer titles.
Moore steered home Arab Spring in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes and then the impressive Telescope in the Hardwicke Stakes for his boss to add to the three victories earlier in the week.
He ensured he claimed the title for the fourth time in five years with a sixth win when the Willie Mullins-trained Pique Sous rounded off the carnival in style in the Queen Alexandra Stakes.
William Buick was his nearest pursuer on three triumphs.
Stoute, who was already the most successful current Royal Ascot trainer before the meeting started, now has 72 in total after four wins during the festival.
The Newmarket trainer has been a little quieter in recent seasons, and had last won this particular prize back in 2006.
Moore, who received both prizes, said: "It's nice to win the last, but it would have been nice to win the Golden Jubilee as well.
"The only disappointment of the week was Dank, and it was a shame I couldn't get a winner for The Queen.
"It's gone really well in the main and I'm delighted. It's been a lovely week. It's a hugely important week for all the owners and trainers in this country."
=========================================== Pankhurst makes Chesham stand
Richard Pankhurst showed a tremendous burst of late pace to win the Chesham Stakes, the first race on the final day of Royal Ascot.
Trained by John Gosden and ridden by William Buick, the 10-1 chance was hardly sighted early on as Caprior Bere, Crown The Kitten and Via Via collectively set a fierce tempo at the head of this field of juveniles.
Caprior Bere's effort was more sustained than the other two pacesetters, but he was outflanked inside the final furlong by Dick Whittington, the 15-8 favourite, and Toscanini, with Richard Pankhurst delivering the ultimate blistering challenge to score by three and three-quarter lengths.
Toscanini finished second, with Dick Whittington third, while the big eyecatcher of the race was Nafaqa, who blew the start but made huge late gains to take fourth spot.
Buick said: "He gave me a very nice feel. I spoke to Robert Havlin before I came here and he said he was green first time, so he always knew he was going to come on a lot.
"At halfway he came good and it was just a matter of trying to get out in time. He's won going away at the finish and was by far the best horse in the race."
Richard Pankhurst, who is owned by Gosden's wife Rachel Hood and is named after the husband of leading suffragette Emily Pankhurst, was given a quote as low as 12-1 to win next season's 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
It was a first Royal Ascot winner for Hood, who said: "I have obviously got to thank my husband, William Buick and all our staff and the horse. Overwhelmingly, I'm speechless. He's exceeded my expectations, but the trainer usually doesn't fill me in on what might possibly happen!"
Gosden added: "Richard Pankhurst was a man of great moral courage. He was against slavery and wanted to get rid of the House Of Lords, have home rule for Ireland and the women's vote. He died young and skint, but was a brave man."
Toscanini's trainer Mick Halford was delighted with the effort of the Godolphin-owned runner-up.
He said: "It was a very good run, no excuses, he just found one too good.
"We've had this race in mind for a while, we hadn't thought any further, but I'm sure there are nice races in him. We'll get him back and talk to John Ferguson (Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock advisor) and the team before making a plan." ============================================== Spring blossoms in Edinburgh
Arab Spring ably justified favouritism from the top of the weights in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Brave trailblazer Salutation had the field well stretched out long before the home turn, at which point Dashing Star's once promising effort wilted, but the same cannot be said for the winner, who always had the eventual runner-up in his sights.
Sir Michael Stoute's 11-4 shot impressively stamped his authority on proceedings under Ryan Moore and gamely stretched two lengths clear once he went for the jugular inside the final furlong and a half.
Stoute was winning the race for a second consecutive year after Opinion struck 12 months ago, while Havana Cooler finished third, another length and a quarter in arrears.
Moore said: "He's straightforward, jumps well and we got a good spot as we weren't going mad. We've always liked the horse and he's four from four this year. Hopefully he'll go on again.
"He's been trained beautifully. He didn't race until just over a year ago and then he went wrong, but he's come back this year and he's nice and progressive."
Arab Spring will now step up in class, with a tilt at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp the ultimate aim.
Peter Reynolds, general manager for owners Ballymacoll Stud, said: "This was certainly the plan. Michael takes these horses along slowly. We'll take it stage by stage, but hopefully he's finished with handicaps now.
"He had an injury last year, but he has done everything right this year. Michael has entered him in the Princess Of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket and that could be a race for him.
"He has some serious entries, which is wonderful, including the Champion Stakes (at Leopardstown) and the Arc.
"The Arc is the one race the Weinstock family and Ballymacoll Stud haven't had a winner of yet and we'd love to do it, so if he's good enough to get to the Arc, he might just be there.
"It's a fantastic training performance from Michael, the way he's brought him on, and Ryan said he has some nice speed."
Mark Johnston said of Salutation: "That was a super run for a 25-1 shot and he has proved he can be competitive over a mile and a half."
Luca Cumani has another major handicap in mind for Havana Cooler. He said: "They are such tough races to win but I'm delighted with him. Hopefully he could be an Ebor horse."
=============================================== Sous rules for mighty Moore
Pique Sous gave Willie Mullins his second victory in the last three renewals of the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot with a smart display under Ryan Moore.
Ireland's champion National Hunt trainer saddled Simenon to win the two-and-three-quarter-mile contest two years ago and Pique Sous, who nearly lost his life last October due to colic, was a heavily backed 11-4 chance to repeat the trick.
They versatile grey was a little keen early on and Moore dropped him out towards the rear of the field, but he began to make headway heading down the back straight and was hot on the heels of the leaders rounding the home bend, where he appeared to be travelling much the best. He quashed stamina doubts as he posted a determined length-and-a-half victory.
Another Irish challenger, the Aidan O'Brien-trained El Salvador, made considerable headway late in the day to finish second, with Brass Ring another neck away in third.
The victory confirmed Moore's place as leading jockey for the week with his sixth winner of the meeting and his third on the card.
Moore said: "It was a very messy race, they only went steady. He travelled beautifully into the race and picked up well. It was a long way, the last furlong, but I got the gaps when they came. When you ride for Willie, it makes it a bit easier."
Mullins added: "Having a Royal Ascot winner is always fantastic. When Ryan hit the front I didn't think anyone could catch him.
"It's great for the Supreme Horse Racing Club (owners). I picked this horse out for them as he had a lovely pedigree. It's a been a dream for the racing club to be here and enjoying this.
"He's in the Northumberland Plate, so we'll see how he comes out of that. I'm not sure what penalty he gets for winning this, but we will have a look at that. I'd like to dedicate the victory to one of my members of staff who had a brain haemorrhage and who is quite ill in hospital."
Petara Bay was pulled up, but jockey Saleem Golam was suspended for 10 days after the stewards inquired why he had not dismounted when it appeared his mount had gone lame. G olam will be out of action from July 5-15.
Tiger Cliff, who was sent off the 5-2 favourite, collapsed and died of a suspected heart attack.
=================================================
Bacc in business
Baccarat surged clear in the hands of talented apprentice jockey George Chaloner to claim the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Having filled the runner-up spot on his previous two starts this season at Thirsk and York, Richard Fahey's five-year-old was among the leading contenders for the six-furlong sprint at odds of 9-1.
The huge field split into three groups early on, with Baccarat among those racing towards the stands rail, and he q uickened up to lead over a furlong out before keeping up the gallop as challengers emerged right across the track, crossing the line well on top.
Professor was a length and a half away in second, with Rivellino and the winner's stable companion Alben Star picking up minor honours in third and fourth respectively.
Chaloner, who was securing his first Royal Ascot winner, said: "It feels amazing. I'm really grateful to the boss and Sir Robert Ogden (owner) for putting me on him. He gave me a good ride the last day at York and he went one better this time."
Fahey added: "I always felt he could win one of these races. Everything's gone right, it's fantastic. He (Chaloner) is only a kid and needs big days like this.
"He's probably capable of better, but that is what you need to win races like this. He likes them to go flat-out and he showed so when he won the St Wilfrid (at Ripon), and the last day in York he was unlucky. He'll take a step up in class now. He won't have too many more chances now of winning handicaps.
"Alben Star has run another blinder. He's been a star and has earned a holiday now."
============================================ Superb Telescope regains focus
Telescope evoked memories of Harbinger when running away with the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Harbinger claimed this race in 2010 before taking the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes by 11 lengths.
Next month's showpiece over the course and distance beckons for the same owners, Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, and trainer Sir Michael Stoute after an electric display.
Telescope (7-4 favourite) has had his critics after he failed to live up to expectations as a candidate for the Investec Derby last year.
But having been given time to develop and mature, he now looks the real deal. He also put two defeats this season behind him in some style under Ryan Moore.
Stoute was winning the race for an eighth time and, for good measure, the on-song Newmarket handler saddled fast-finishing runner-up Hillstar, but he was seven lengths down on his impressive stablemate at the line.
"He was very inconvenienced by the bad ground at Sandown and Chester, but he had his ground and showed what he is really made of," said Stoute.
"If he is in good shape I don't see why we won't come back here next month. If he did that again, he'd be in the shake-up in any big race."
Harry Herbert, Highclere's manager, said: "He's such an exciting horse and, as Ryan was just saying there, he's a man now. It's taken a while for him to learn how to race, but he's grown up.
"It was the right trip and that was a hell of a performance. I stood here after Harbinger had won as impressively and I said, 'Come on, let's go for the King George'. Sir Michael will make those decisions, but you'd be pretty bonkers not to say it's the obvious race having performed like that."
========================================== July Cup rematch on cards
Due Diligence could renew rivalry with his Diamond Jubilee Stakes conqueror Slade Power in the July Cup at Newmarket next month.
Aidan O'Brien's colt ran a terrific race to finish second, beaten a length and a half in the hands of Ryan Moore after meeting with a little interference in the dying strides, which made no difference to the result.
"It was his first time with the older sprinters and really we couldn't be happier," said the Ballydoyle handler.
"We would have preferred the field to have stayed together. He was a little bit lonely out there and Ryan said he was wanting to drift towards them, but we're delighted. All the pace was on the other side, but that's the way it is, and he ran home really well.
"His last two runs were against three-year-olds and they have to step up against the hardened sprinters. We felt he would learn a lot today and hopefully he did. We look forward to him next time. The lads will discuss it, but it (the July Cup) looks the obvious thing for him."
Roger Varian was delighted with the effort of third home Aljamaaheer, who has come back to sprinting this term having shown quality form over a mile in the past.
He said: "I wished it had been six and a half furlongs. I believe he will have his day. It was a good run and we're now thinking of the July Course at Newmarket (for the July Cup) and the Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.
"It was only his second run of the year. It was a good run, but he hasn't quite got that sprinters' mentality. He's broken well, but then lost ground, he couldn't hold his position and then came home well."
The Henry Candy-trained Music Master finished fourth, having raced away from the main group for much of the contest.
Candy said: "He ran a wonderful race. He picked up really well. What looked like a good draw (14) turned out to be a lousy draw. Fergus (Sweeney) said when he looked up those on the far side were leading him five lengths so he had to commit earlier than he wanted. I don't know where we'll go next."
========================================= Lynam turns on Jubilee power
Owner Sabena Power and trainer Eddie Lynam completed the remarkable feat of winning both of Royal Ascot's Group One sprints with two different horses.
Sole Power had quickly been ruled out of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes as he was tired from his success in Tuesday's King's Stand, but the two years younger, but unrelated, Slade Power was more than ready to step into his shoes.
The only difference was it was Wayne Lordan in the saddle rather than Richard Hughes, and the 7-2 favourite was ridden more prominently and to less dramatic effect than the fast-finishing Sole Power, but it was the same outcome as he strongly repelled Due Diligence and obliged by a length and a half.
The family have just a handful horses at Lynam's County Meath stable, while the trainer had also won Wednesday's Queen Mary Stakes with Anthem Alexander.
"This one's very special as we bred him," said Lynam. "They're special owners, and I'm lucky to have special staff, special horses and a great family to back me up. It's just a coincidence, I've got two very good horses and they'll both run in the July Cup. Sole Power will wear the first colours as he's the elder statesman and the stable pet.
"Trainers get 10 per cent (of prize-money) for a reason - it's only 10 per cent to do with us. It's been a great week and there is nowhere I like winning more than here. I love the place."
Power's son, Paddy, added: "This is the family week of all time. Two Royal Ascot winners - it just doesn't happen. We were quite confident he'd come on from his first run at the Curragh. It's very special."
They had to wait to celebrate as a stewards' inquiry was called, but the result was quickly confirmed.
Lordan, who got a one-day careless riding ban, said: "He travelled real well, I got there a little bit soon and he rolled around with me, but I had plenty left and I'm delighted. It feels great. We don't come across these horses too often that can come and compete, and when they win it's even better."

Royal Ascot is over for a year but Ryan doesn't stop! It's Pontefract on Sunday for our star columnist where he has four rides booked...
14:10, Pontefract Lacing She may not have justified favouritism on her debut in a Newmarket maiden over 5f back in April but she certainly showed a good deal of promise for me in finishing in midfield there, and actually wasn't beaten far in the end. I don't know why she hasn't been out since but she is a well-related filly who will appreciate this extra furlong, and has to have a decent chance in here. 15:40, Pontefract Waila Hasn't reproduced the form of her runaway win in a 1m4f Newmarket listed race in two starts since, but she ran ok on her reappearance at Goodwood. But this looks quite a hot little listed race, with Harris Tweed, Rawaki and Freedom's Light against her, so she will have to step up a fair bit on that effort. But she has the ability to win this, and a return to quicker ground will suit.
16:40, Pontefract Ingleby Symphony Has been running ok without winning by the looks of it, and is slowly coming down the weights, so she may have a chance. But I see that she finished last in this race last season, so she needs to run a bit better than she did there to figure today. 17:10, Pontefract Foxy Clarets Came back to form when just edged out at Ayr last time when tried in first-time blinkers. Is 3lb higher today, but hopefully can still be competitive here =============================================

Kevin's main fancy may have been withdrawn on account of drying ground at Cork last Sunday, but his other recommended bet landed the spoils for his supporters to ensure another profitable week for the column.
Looking Back Mixed emotions last week, as for the second time in the last three editions of this column, my main fancy was withdrawn due to the ground drying out. Three Bells was the horse in question and it was a case of what might have been, as he was turned out quickly at Sligo on Tuesday and bolted up by five lengths in a race of similar quality. Hopefully some of the readers of this column will have followed him up and gone in again.
There was ample compensation with the second bet of the day though, as the David Marnane-trained Jamesie ran a stormer to land the recommended place bet in the Midsummer Sprint Stakes at Cork. He was surprisingly weak in the market, going off at a BSP of 14.74 (3.55 for a place), but my hopes were not so high after a couple of furlongs.
All the action on the straight track all day was up against the stand rail and my hope was that Jamesie would be dropped right into rear with a view to swooping late, but he started almost too well and while he got some cover, he was obliged to race right on the outside edge of the field. He had to make his bid out there, but produced a very strong finishing effort to only be beaten by a rapidly-reducing ½-length. Indeed, such was the strength with which he finished with, he was five lengths clear of the field 100 yards after the line and Fergal Lynch had a right job to pull him up.
It was an excellent return to action from Jamesie and with him looking to be better than ever since being dropped to sprint trips, I expect he'll prove a lucrative performer in Listed/Group 3 sprints this season.
This Week's Plays The BBQ Evening August 13th At Gowran Park Handicap (15:15) brings together a few runners that I've had my eye on of late and all things considered, the one that makes the most appeal on this day is the Jim Gorman-trained Snap Click.
The son of Kodiac proved very well suited to the return to a firmer surface at Navan last time, only just being touched off by the progressive Local Flier close home. He had to work to get prominent from a poor draw on that occasion and while his draw again isn't ideal here, there doesn't look to be too much early pace in the race, so he hopefully won't have to work too hard to get a good position. The drop to seven furlongs is a positive and given that he may not have been fully concentrating when hitting the front last time, the fact that his connections now apply cheekpieces for the first time is encouraging.
Given that the race is so competitive, I am only going to recommend backing him for a place, but again, feel free to do your own thing and back him for the win too if you wish.
The Best Of Luck Kilkenny Hurlers Handicap (15:45) is really competitive and there promises to be plenty of early pace to the race which will very much suit my main selection, the David Marnane-trained Hi Emperor. He has already done me a couple of turns this season, but his latest win at Fairyhouse was the first time the penny truly dropped with him.
He is a huge, a real moose of a horse, and to be kind to him, he is a bit simple minded. While he had won twice prior to his latest success, he had done so with the minimum amount of concentration possible, but the addition of blinkers really helped him at Fairyhouse last time. He travelled strongly, responded well to his riders instructions and didn't mess about once in front.
Sure, he may have gone up 12lb for that easy win and that was plenty, but this horse still has potential to improve again and this race looks likely to pan out well for him. Look for him to strike a bit later this time around and I'm hopeful he can get the job done again.
Recommended Bets Back Snap Click 1pt to place @ 3.0 or better in the 15:15 at Gowran Park Back Hi Emperor 1pt to win @ 5.5 or better in the 15:45 at Gowran Park

Newmarket on News agenda
The Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting has been pencilled in as the likely target for Newsletter following a sterling effort at Royal Ascot.
Ken Condon's Curragh maiden winner fluffed her lines on her second appearance at Naas, but proved that running all wrong with an excellent effort to finish third behind well-touted compatriot Anthem Alexander in the Queen Mary Stakes.
Condon is looking to step his charge back up to six furlongs in the race formerly known as the Cherry Hinton on the July Course .
The trainer said: "We were delighted with the run and we liked her the whole way through the year.
"She was impressive at the Curragh and she wasn't at her best at Naas. There were mitigating circumstances that day, we knew that, which is why we were happy to bring her to Ascot and let her take her chance.
"She enjoyed the fast pace and the fast ground and although every Queen Mary is a good race, I'd say this year it could have been a particularly good renewal.
"I know Eddie (Lynam) and Pat (Smullen) think a lot of the winner and there was plenty of chat about the American horse (Spanish Pipedream) that finished fourth.
"I think we'll probably aim towards the Cherry Hinton now. Her pedigree would point you in the way of going six furlongs, so we'll see how we go.
"If she runs well at Newmarket we'll probably give her an entry in the Cheveley Park, and there is also the Phoenix Stakes to consider.
"She's a filly with plenty of speed, but she's developing and growing all the time and she doesn't strike me as just an early two-year-old. Hopefully there are some exciting times ahead."
==================================== Fitz set to miss Galway
Dual Galway Festival winner Rebel Fitz is likely to miss this year's meeting after suffering a minor setback.
The Mick Winters-trained nine-year-old was a popular winner of the Galway Hurdle in 2012 and completed a hat-trick over fences at Ballybrit last summer.
He was last seen clinching Grade One glory in the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse in April and connections had been eyeing a tilt at the Galway Plate, but Winters revealed that plan is likely to be shelved.
He said: "He came out of Fairyhouse in great form, but later on we found he had a small injury between his joint and his hoof, a bit like a sprained ankle.
"He's had to have a couple of months off and we sent him away. He's been on the treadmill and we'll go down and see him.
"We might start riding him on the roads in a fortnight and see how we go, but we'll just have to tread carefully.
"We'll get him scanned, but I don't think he'll be going to Galway. We won't take any chances with him."
================================== King pays tribute to Tiger
Alan King has paid tribute to popular stayer Tiger Cliff, who suffered a fatal heart attack after finishing fourth in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday.
The five-year-old collapsed at the end of the two-and-three-quarter-mile stamina test that concluded the meeting.
Tiger Cliff, owned by a syndicate headed by Henry Ponsonby, enjoyed his finest hour when winning the Ebor at York last August when trained by Lady Cecil.
The five-year-old moved to King's Barbury Castle stable in the autumn with the intention of going hurdling, but that had been put on hold and he stuck to the Flat, finishing third in the Yorkshire Cup and fifth in the Henry II Stakes before running at Royal Ascot.
"He collapsed after passing the post and everyone in the yard is absolutely devastated," the trainer told his website.
"We did not have him long, but he quickly became hugely popular in the yard and we were all excited about his future. Our thoughts are with Henry Ponsonby and his syndicate, who were naturally distraught afterwards."
================================== Mimosa given Cup aim
Pale Mimosa will be rerouted towards the Curragh Cup next weekend after she was withdrawn from the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.
Dermot Weld's inmate missed her primary aim on Thursday after the ground turned too quick for the daughter of Singspiel.
She will instead run at the Curragh next Sunday in the Group Three over a mile and three-quarters.
Weld said: "She'll go for the Curragh Cup next Sunday. She is all set and is in great form."
The lightly raced five-year-old,who finished fourth in the Long Distance Cup on Champions Day at Newmarket last October, was beaten only three and a half lengths by Gold Cup hero Leading Light in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan in May.
================================= Lyons yard hits double top
Ger Lyons and Colin Keane have been in fine form this weekend and they followed up Saturday's double at the big Down Royal meeting with another two winners at Gowran Park.
The stable's once-raced four-year-old Adroit (7-4 favourite) stepped up from her Fairyhouse debut second with a comfortable victory in the Family Fun Day Fillies Maiden to get the ball rolling.
Keane sat in second place for much of the way as Calorie set the pace, before taking charge from the quarter-mile pole to score by a length and three-quarters from the long-time leader. Nidhaam ran on well to take third.
Lyons said: She's a lovely Oasis Dream filly. Frank (Dunne, breeder) does send us good, well-bred horses and it is important to win with them. Frank isn't into going for handicaps, he is more into going for black type. Whether she is a black-type filly now, we'll discuss at home, but that is the first step of the programme achieved."
The double came up with Toccata Blue in the feature Best Of Luck Kilkenny Hurlers Handicap.
Friday evening's Limerick scorer In Salutem hit the front a furlong out in his bid for a quick follow-up, but Toccata Blue was delivered with a late run by Keane and edged ahead close home to win by half a length.
Lyons said: "No-one could begrudge him that win as he is a consistent little horse. Colin said they went a bit mad, they went a bit quick, so he took his time and when he got there he was brave. Things are going well at the moment. We will enjoy the good times, as I'm sure we will have bad times."
Dermot Weld's 7-1 shot Leafcutter readily disposed of the opposition in the Gowran Park Racing Club Membership From 100 Euro (C&G) Maiden, slipping through a gap on the rail a furlong out and going clear to win by two and a half lengths under Pat Smullen, who went on to a double on Misty Lane (8-1) in the Gowran Park Golf Club Societies Welcome Handicap.
Weld said of Leafcutter, who is owned by Sheikh Mohammed: "He is a horse with a nice bit of ability. He quickened up nicely and he won well. He loves the fast ground and he will go to the Newmarket July Sales. He is a good-looking, solid, top-of-the-ground horse."
Red Rocks Point led all the way under Colm O'Donoghue to maintain his unbeaten record in a three-horse contest for the Here's To Another Centenary Race.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt, who won his only previous race narrowly on the Dundalk all-weather track last September, was sent off a 4-1 chance as the field contained Dermot Weld's hugely promising filly Ebeyina, who landed a heavy-ground maiden at Cork in April by 23 lengths and started as the 4-6 favourite.
With the ground quick this time, Ebeyina raced in second behind Red Rocks Point and drew up to challenge at the quarter-mile pole, but she was unable to make any more progress and the long-time leader pulled away to score by a length and a quarter, with another seven and a half lengths to Warbird.
O'Donoghue said: "He loved the ground and he is tough and hardy. The boss said he would be very hard to beat and he was proved right. I was never headed but when Pat (Smullen on Ebeyina) came to challenge he actually helped as my fella is still a bit raw. Hopefully there is plenty of improvement in him."
====================================== Castle falls to dazzling Light
John Gosden and William Buick followed on from a lucrative Royal Ascot by taking the feature race at Pontefract with Freedom's Light.
Gosden secured four winners at the showcase fixture, with Buick on the mark three times, and the pair successfully linked up with the four-year-old in the Listed totepool Pontefract Castle Stakes over a mile and a half.
Buick brought Freedom's Light (7-4) from the rear to lead just over a furlong out and held the 11-8 favourite Waila by a half a length. The pair pulled 12 lengths clear of Familiarity in third.
"She deserves to get a Pattern-race win under a name after just losing out in a Haydock Group Three," said the jockey.
"The ground was a little bit firm for her but, in fairness, she stuck her head out to the line. She's always had a high action, which is probably why she felt the ground."
Mark Johnston had two winners at Royal Ascot and also carried on the good work with Bureau (4-1) in the toteexacta Pick The 1, 2 Fillies' Handicap. The daughter of Halling dug deep for Silvestre de Sousa to hold Ingleby Symphony by a length and a quarter.
Apprentice George Chaloner followed up his first Royal Ascot success on Baccarat in Saturday's Wokingham when causing a surprise on 33-1 shot Bimbo in the totejackpot/British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes.
The 3lb claimer brought Richard Fahey's newcomer with a telling run in the centre of the course to defeat Lady Moscou by three-quarters of a length. The winner's stablemate Lacing, the 5-6 favourite, was third.
"She wouldn't be the most straightforward, but she's been very professional and done it nicely. I think she will improve a hell of a lot," said Chaloner.
Fahey completed a double when Ryan Moore, the top jockey at Royal Ascot with six winners, made all on Foxy Clarets (11-4) in the totetrifecta Available On All Races Handicap.
Epic Battle (20-1) came out on top in a thrilling finish to the totequadpot Four Places In Four Races Handicap. Having his first start for George Margarson, the four-year-old responded to a typical strong Kieren Fallon ride to pip Legal Waves by a neck, with Cactus Valley just a short head behind in third.
The trainer said: "It was an epic battle, especially that last half a furlong, and he's quite a lazy horse. He won three times for William Haggas and the owners have kindly sent him to me. I thought he might need it, but he has been working quite well.
"I had him in the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot. He didn't get in off his current mark and that could be next year's plan."
Teak (10-1) gave a tough performance to grind out victory in the two-and-a-quarter-mile totepool Pontefract Cup. Stevie Donohoe kept the Ian Williams-trained bottom-weight up to his work in the closing stages to deny Rosairlie by a length and a half.
"We had a trouble-free passage right to the last bend then we had to get a bit of luck, but it worked well and he stayed well," Donohoe told Racing UK. "Firm is key to him to stay and he is tough."
Another odds-on shot was turned over when Smiling Stranger had to play second fiddle to Westerly (16-1) in the toteplacepot Racing's Favourite Bet Maiden Auction Stakes. Liam Jones got the William Haggas-trained filly home by a length and a half from the 4-11 chance.
========================================= Margarson wants it Kristale clear
Lucky Kristale is due to have a scan on Monday as connections attempt to discover why she came home lame after the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Trainer George Margarson had expected a big run from last year's Duchess Of Cambridge and Lowther Stakes heroine and still retains faith in her, despite another disappointing display following her flop in the Qipco 1000 Guineas.
"She was lame when she came off the track. We weren't quite sure where, but she was very sore round her girth area," Margarson told Racing UK.
"I've had the physio have a look and she says she's strained her stomach muscles. We don't know where, when or how.
"Richard (Hughes) said she cruised up nicely and he thought they was going to be in the first four, but then she started to go sidewards like a crab and she wasn't throwing her off-fore out. She's going to have X-rays on her joints and have a muscle scan.
"Richard said she has trained on and will definitely get seven furlongs, but he couldn't guarantee the mile.
"When her two Group Two penalties disappear at the end of August we can start planning for Group Threes and Group Twos to get her back.
"She trotted out 100 per cent this morning and I'm going to canter her tomorrow with a special pad on her girth. Then I'll have a good idea where she is.
"She's going down to the vets tomorrow afternoon to be scanned and we'll see. It's nothing disastrous or serious, but it's obviously holding her back.
"I'd like to drop her down in grade. Hopefully she will be kept in training next year and if she is just a sprinter then we can go down that route, but I'm still adamant in my mind there's no problem with this filly getting a mile."
======================================= Channel 4 defends Ascot coverage
Channel 4 remains "proud" of its Royal Ascot coverage, despite dwindling audiences throughout the week.
Average viewing figures are reported to have fallen from 658,200 over the five days in 2013 to 583,400 this year, with Saturday's final day attracting 605,000 viewers in comparison with over 820,000 last year.
Viewing figures peaked for Thursday's Gold Cup card, when an average 670,000 people tuned in, an amount which is well down on the 2013 number of 750,000.
A Channel 4 spokesperson said: "Royal Ascot is one of the highlights of Channel 4's schedule and we are proud of the high-quality coverage delivered by the Channel 4 Racing team over the last five days, which included a range of new presenters, features and innovations.
"We have continued to experience declines in total television viewing affecting all channels across the week and this is reflected in the share of viewing - which has grown despite the impact of World Cup football broadcast on other channels.
"Channel 4 has made a long-term and significant commitment to racing and we want to showcase it to the widest possible audience - which is why throughout the year it has been supported by major marketing campaigns and wider programming.
"We will continue to review and invest in our coverage and work with the whole racing industry to provide the best showcase for the sport."
Channel 4 attracted criticism earlier in the month after the audience for the Investec Derby also sharply declined, with the channel engaging the punditry services of Frankie Dettori when he was not riding, as well as adding fashion expert Gok Wan to the Royal meeting team.
While the numbers are down, officials at Ascot insist they were more than satisfied with Channel 4's efforts.
Charles Barnett, chief executive of Ascot, said: "We have been delighted with the Channel 4 programme this week, as we were with the debut Royal Ascot broadcast last year.
"It is so important for the meeting to be projected as something completely different to the norm and Channel 4 has delivered that each day from the bespoke opening credits.
"Gok Wan has proven an inspirational choice to front the fashion coverage and developed an immediate rapport with the racing team, who as ever have been excellent."
Richard Fitzgerald, chief executive of Racecourse Media Group, also hailed the addition of Wan and Dettori to the Channel 4 coverage.
He said: "We are very fortunate to have had all 30 races live from Royal Ascot within one dedicated programme on terrestrial TV. The addition of Gok Wan and Frankie Dettori to the team caught the imagination and the high-quality coverage conveyed all the excitement and glamour of the meeting.
"We all have a role to play in maximising the audience by promoting the sport and telling the stories to the wider public, and ensuring racing is must-watch television."
===================================== Pique team eye Plate mission
Royal Ascot hero Pique Sous is "very likely" to turn out quickly for the John Smith's Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday.
The seven-year-old came close to losing his life last autumn after suffering a severe bout of colic, but showed he is better than ever with a brilliant display in the Queen Alexandra Stakes in the hands of Ryan Moore.
The grey is now safely back at champion trainer Willie Mullins' County Carlow base, but is likely to be heading back across the Irish Sea later this week.
Steve Massey, racing manager for the owners Supreme Horse Racing, said: "The horse caught the ferry back to Ireland last night and is grand and fine back at Willie's this morning.
"I spoke to Willie and Ryan about the Northumberland Plate yesterday, Ryan was keen and if the horse is all right come Tuesday and the ground is suitable, I think it's very likely he'll run.
"He gets in with a 5lb penalty. He was rated 96 going into yesterday and I'd say he'll go up at least 10lb, so he'll be well-in.
"I thought Ryan gave him a fantastic ride as he pulled hard in the early stages. I think the two and three-quarter miles he faced yesterday is the top end of his limit and I actually think he can improve going back to two miles.
"He travels so well in his races and has some kick. The time was quicker than Simenon's when he won the race two years ago. I don't think he'll jump a hurdle again. We'll be concentrating on the Flat from now on."
The triumph capped a memorable few months for the burgeoning Supreme Horse Racing Club, following the victory of Very Much So in the Goffs Land Rover Bumper at the Punchestown Festival.
Massey went on: " You always hope they will run well and we thought he had a really good chance yesterday, but to go and see him do it was fantastic and it was just an amazing day.
"The club is less than three years old and we've had a Punchestown Festival winner and a Royal Ascot winner in the space of a few months. It's incredible and all credit to Willie, who is a master of his trade.
"It's fantastic for everyone involved. Even the club members who aren't involved with Pique Sous are buzzing and we've already had new interest this morning.
"We had a lot of owners there yesterday and I'm told some of them were still in Ascot's car park two at 10pm. I think it's safe to say everyone had a good day and night!"
=============================================== Treve camp look for answers
Treve has been undergoing tests since her return to France following her shock defeat in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Last year's brilliant Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner could only finish third behind The Fugue on Wednesday, having lost her unbeaten record at the hands of Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix Ganay on her seasonal debut.
She appeared not to move well to post in the hands of Frankie Dettori and looked ill at ease during the race, though she did stay on at the end of the mile-and-a-quarter Group One to take minor honours.
"She's been for a scan and we have to wait for the results now," said trainer Criquette Head-Maarek.
The four-year-old filly went back home to Head-Maarek's stables in Chantilly and has been treated by Duncan Moir, the vet for owners Al Shaqab Racing.
Al Shaqab's racing manager Harry Herbert speculated after the race that Treve might have pulled a muscle before taking to the famous Ascot turf, and he is optimistic she will return in the autumn to defend her Arc crown.
He said: "She was a bit sore at the top of her back into her quarters, so probably when she did a couple of kicks in the pre-parade ring it might have just tweaked something there.
"It's nothing serious, but there's a need for recuperation and she'll be trained for the Vermeille at Longchamp and then the Arc, hopefully."

2.30, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of SPREAD BOY (IRE), ridden by Graham Watters and trained by Barry Murtagh, which was tenderly ridden throughout, finishing fifth, beaten some 21¾ lengths. They interviewed the rider and they also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated his instructions were to drop the gelding out, get him settled and to make his effort from half way up the hill. He added that he had ridden SPREAD BOY (IRE) on his hurdles debut and he felt that the gelding may have failed to stay on that occasion. He further added that with this in mind, he had delayed his effort until as late as possible in order that the gelding should get the trip. He explained that having made his effort half way up the hill the gelding had flattened out and he was unable to make any further progress. He further stated that in his opinion he had obtained the best possible placing. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted his explanation.
5.00, sixth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, ST GREGORY (IRE), ridden by Brian Harding and trained by Nicky Richards, compared with its previous run at Cartmel on 24 May 2014, where the mare finished last of nine, beaten approximately 50 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the mare was better suited by being fitted with blinkers and ridden more prominently. They ordered ST GREGORY (IRE) to be routine tested.
22/06/2014
Worcester, 22 June 2014
The Stewards gave permission for the second fence in the back straight to be omitted for Race 1, 2 and 3, due to the ground being under repair.
2.50, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the reason why Sam Twiston-Davies, the rider of MR SATCO (IRE), unplaced, had appeared to ease his horse prematurely. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found him in breach of Rule (B)59.4 and guilty of failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.
3.20, third race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, KIE (IRE), ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies and trained by Donald McCain, compared with its previous run at Market Rasen on 18 May 2014 where the gelding finished fourth of six, beaten by 28 ¾ lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding appreciated the step up in trip.
4.50, sixth race
The Stewards noted that the winner, VULCANITE (IRE),and JOIN THE CLAN (IRE), placed second, had interfered with ROYALE’S CHARTER, placed third, inside the final half furlong but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved VULCANITE (IRE) or JOIN THE CLAN (IRE)’s placing.
5.20, seventh race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, HI TIDE (IRE), ridden by Tony McCoy and trained by J.R. Jenkins, compared with its previous run at Southwell on 3 June 2014 where the gelding finished ninth of twelve, beaten by 19 ½ lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding had stripped fitter from his most recent start after having a brief let up prior.
22/06/2014
Pontefract, 22 June 2014
2.40, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approaching the furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, WESTERLY, ridden by Liam Jones, had interfered with SMILING STRANGER (IRE), placed second, ridden by Oisin Murphy, who in turn interfered with STOUT CORTEZ, unplaced, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa. They found the interference was accidental.
========================================
Hexham, 22 June 2014
2.30, first race
The Veterinary Officer reported that EL MASSIVO (IRE), placed third, trained by Brian Ellison, finished lame right fore.
3.30, third race
The Stewards considered the running of ANDREO BAMBALEO ridden by Craig Gallagher and trained by Brian Ellison, which was pulled up. The Stewards noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding appeared to have lost interest. They ordered ANDREO BAMBALEO to be routine tested.
5.00, sixth race
The Stewards considered the running of FORESTSIDE (IRE), ridden by Brian Hughes and trained by Barry Murtagh, which finished unplaced. The Stewards noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that the race may have come too soon, having run eight days ago. They ordered FORESTSIDE (IRE) to be routine tested.
5.30, seventh race
Samantha Drake, the rider of MISS SUNFLOWER, which was pulled up, reported that the mare was never travelling.
The representative of Michael Scudamore, the trainer of VON GALEN (IRE), which was pulled up, reported that the gelding bled from the nose.

Alan King has paid tribute to popular stayer Tiger Cliff, who suffered a fatal heart attack after finishing fourth in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday. Tiger Cliff The five-year-old collapsed at the end of the two-and-three-quarter-mile stamina test that concluded the meeting. Tiger Cliff, owned by a syndicate headed by Henry Ponsonby, enjoyed his finest hour when winning the Ebor at York last August when trained by Lady Cecil. The five-year-old moved to Alan King's Barbury Castle stable in the autumn with the intention of going hurdling. That had been put on hold and he stuck to the Flat, finishing third in the Yorkshire Cup and fifth in the Henry II Stakes before running at Royal Ascot. "He collapsed after passing the post and everyone in the yard is absolutely devastated," the trainer told www.alankingracing.co.uk. "We did not have him long, but he quickly became hugely popular in the yard and we were all excited about his future. Our thoughts are with Henry Ponsonby and his syndicate, who were naturally distraught afterwards."
