The Queen's Estimate will face 14 rivals when she defends her crown in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on Thursday. The Queen will be hoping for back-to-back victories from Estimate The Sir Michael Stoute-trained mare supplied Her Majesty with a memorable victory in the two-and-a-half-mile feature 12 months ago and returns to Berkshire for what is her first start of the season. The hot favourite for the Group One event is Aidan O'Brien's Leading Light, who won the Queen's Vase and the St Leger last season and made a winning comeback in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan last month. Leading Light is the only Ballydoyle representative, with Eye Of The Storm, Ernest Hemingway and El Salvador all withdrawn. The Irish challenge also includes last year's runner-up Simenon, trained by Willie Mullins, Dermot Weld's Pale Mimosa, Mick Winters' talented dual-purpose mare Missunited and Johnny Murtagh's Royal Diamond. Tom Dascombe's Brown Panther has made an excellent start to the season by winning the Ormonde Stakes at Chester and the Henry II Stakes at Sandown, while Marco Botti's Tac de Boistron won Ascot's Sagaro Stakes before being touched off in the Yorkshire Cup. Andreas Wohler's Altano, fifth in last year's renewal, is another leading contender.

Sir Michael Stoute does not appear to do nerves but it will have been an anxious time at Freemason Lodge around 10am on Monday as he waited to see if red-hot favourite Abseil made the cut for the Royal Hunt Cup. Abseil crept into the weights for the Royal Hunt Cup He managed to scrape in and is a banker for many who see him as a Group horse in a handicap. Having won at Epsom on Oaks day, his jockey James Doyle hopes the whole experience of Royal Ascot will not be too much for him. "He's a relatively inexperienced horse but I think running at Epsom and handling the hustle and bustle of Oaks day will stand him in good stead," said Doyle "He'll have learned a lot from that and I'm sure the straight mile at Ascot will suit him." William Haggas has had this race in mind since the end of last season for Queensberry Rules given his penchant for going best fresh. He was third in the Britannia last year. "It was always the plan to start him off in this," said Haggas. "He goes best fresh, so we thought we may as well save his first run for this. "He might just be a little high in the weights for what he has actually done, but you need to be pretty high these days just to get in. "Since he last ran he's been cut (gelded) and had a minor wind procedure." Andrew Balding has two runners with Here Comes When, ridden by Oisin Murphy, and Stirring Ballad, not seen since being sent off co-favourite last year when she met trouble in running. "Here Comes When was very impressive at Chester. In an ideal world he'd like a bit more give in the ground, but he's in good form and seems relaxed at the moment, so he should run well," Balding told At The Races. "Stirring Ballad hasn't run since being favourite for last year's race. The biggest issue that day was probably Richard Hughes, which I love to remind him about from time to time! I think it was the one bad ride Hughesie gave a horse all year. "We said jokingly when we left the car park the brave thing to do would be to wait a year and come back. We didn't mean it, but she's had a number of little issues and that's what's going to happen. "She's beginning to find her form at home. We could have done with a run beforehand, but she's in good heart and is perfectly suited to a big-field handicap. "She's Listed-placed and is only rated 97, so she'd be reasonably well handicapped." Hugo Palmer is confident of a big run from Short Squeeze, a rapid improver last year and also making his seasonal debut. "I couldn't be any happier. I haven't slept an enormous amount, a combination of excitement and nerves, he's in a great place," said Palmer. "He's a good moving horse who wouldn't want extremes of ground. He picks his feet up quite high so I wouldn't run him on very firm but he actually does prefer to feel his feet. "He's a late foal, he didn't turn four until May this year and in keeping with a horse like that he's done very well, he's physically filled out and is a lot stronger. "It wasn't until August last year that he started showing us on track what he had done at home. I feel he's improved hugely over the winter." Richard Hannon has two runners, including Sea Shanty for the Queen who only won at Sandown on Saturday. "We won't know until the race whether this comes too soon for Sea Shanty, but we had to run him in the race to get the penalty that would clinch his place in the field, and he was very brave up the hill," said Hannon on his website, www.richardhannonracing.co.uk"It would be lovely to win it for Her Majesty, but we also have another strong chance with Trumpet Major, who is Group horse running in a handicap. He lost his way but came right back to form in a first-time tongue-tie at Newmarket, finishing an excellent fourth, and he could run very well." As Roger Varian's Farraaj was declared a non-runner before 9am, Ed Dunlop's Red Avenger, the first reserve, now gets a run.

17:35 Wednesday 18th June Royal Ascot Day 2 Preview
Three make the shortlist for the Jersey Stakes. That Is The Spirit will get further than this on breeding but has that crucial pace being by Invincible Spirit. It's the quickest ground he has faced but that should be fine given how well he moved at Epsom. The worry is that it's not easy to make all in this and that is how he'll be ridden. Windfast is another pace angle on his outside and will not help matters but I do still like That Is The Spirit's chances at 14/1. There's a fair bit of pace across the track, with Parbold likely to go forward and Major Crispies from low draws and that could set it up for something in behind. It's hard to assess how good Redbrook is but he stays a mile and should have the race run to suit. I'm a little surprised Muwaary is as big as 11/2 though and, whilst it's not a super confident shout, he's worth support. The French Guineas form isn't smashing but this is a Group 3 and plenty of previous winners had failed in Group 1 company en route to landing the Jersey. He stays a mile and should be suited by a good gallop and certainly by better ground than he had at Longchamp. Royal Ascot 14.30 - Muwaary 1pt win
The 2 fillies at the top of the market for the Queen Mary look likely to fight out the finish but I'd swap them around at the prices. It pays to race prominently in this and that gives Spanish Pipedream strong credentials as she will try and make all as Hootenanny did in the Windsor Castle yesterday. However, she will give Anthem Alexander a prefect tow into this from the stall next-door and the Irish filly, who was in season when romping to a 7 length victory at Tipperary, should be even better today. The time was under a second outside standard and she could have easily gone under if asked. I think she should be favourite at 7/2 and the fact that connections send Patience Alexander, who beat Tiggy Wiggy at York, to the Albany says how highly this filly is regarded. Harry's Dancer is pick of the prices. Royal Ascot 15.05 - Anthem Alexander 2pt win
I think Treve will win the Prince Of Wales's Stakes but she's a dirty price at 8/11. This is the shortest trip she has been over on the fastest ground she has raced on since reappearance last year and she was beaten last time out. That came at the hands of a race fit superstar and the form alone is enough to win this but she is short. I was going to leave the race alone but The Fugue at 9/1 in an 8 runner field is a bet to nothing. Mukhadram was ahead of the Fugue in this last year but very much had first run on her and she cold well reverse that form. I fancy her to reverse form with Magician with a 4lb pull back at 10 furlongs too and the ground will suit. She will come on for the run but I can't see her out of the first 3. Royal Ascot 15.45 - The Fugue 1pt e/w
Sky Lantern is a wonderful filly but I get the impression from Richard Hughes, who is brilliantly honest, that she will need the run. She did on reappearance last year. Certify is certainly the each way play and too big at 14/1 but her Meydan win saw a Listed winner rated 100 back in 2nd who then went on to reverse the form when the Godolphin filly was in season. Either way this is a big leap and it's a Group 2 with a couple of Group 1 fillies in the line-up. Esoterique spoiled the Integral party at HQ but she had had a run and I fancy Stoute's filly to reverse the form. She is a class act and didn't look great in the paddock last time. She'll be ready for this though and 3/1 is very fair. The yard have won 3 of the last 10 renewals and I'm convinced we are yet to see this filly at her very best. Royal Ascot 16.25 - Integral 2pt win
The interesting thing about the Hunt Cup is a lack of pace. Much is made of the draw and that is usually pace dependent but there is really only 1 front runner in the field in Artigiano and he is drawn 9, though stablemate Steeler could do the same up high. Ultimately there is no obvious draw bias relating to pace and you have to hope whoever is riding your selection picks a side and gets a good run. I want to back nothing more than Ayaar at 20/1 who made eye catching progress in the Victoria Cup and returns to a mile. He will likely go stand side form 16 and Frankie is a good jockey to have onside here. Next is a choice between Gabrial's Kaka, Burano and Red Avenger. The former may be a little high in the handicap, the price has gone on Burano who is now a little short for a horse that finds trouble but Ed Dunlop's horse is worth a go at 25/1. Back off the same mark as when 2nd at Newmarket over 10 furlongs, he may not get a strong enough pace to aim at but put in an encouraging run last time at Epsom behind Abseil. He has options form stall 11 with a jockey that is 1 from 1 on him (clincher) and the yard looks like a return to form is on the cards. Royal Ascot 17.00 - Ayaar 1pt e/w Royal Ascot 17.00 - Red Avenger 0.5pt e/w
The Sandringham has a fair bit of pace across the track but Muteela and Queen Catrine should ensure those up high really get something to run at. That leads me to Coral Mist who was unlucky last time and is a Group 3 winner. Her mark is on the lofty side though and she is not guaranteed to see out the mile, though it looks likely. Preference of those up high is for Oxsana at 20/1 who will stay and looks well treated on her Newmarket efforts last term. Haggas handicap debutantes are almost worth backing blind and she's better than she showed at Meydan when rarely getting involved. I was going to leave it there but Lamar looks far too big at 33/1 and is worth a nibble. She too is off 93 and that looks lenient for a filly beaten 6 lengths in a strong looking Guineas. She travelled well at Newbury over 10 furlongs before fading but that form looks strong based on the Oaks and she's worth a go back over a strongly run mile for a yard going well. Royal Ascot 17.35 - Oxsana 1pt e/w Royal Ascot 17.35 - Lamar 1pt e/w

After drawing a blank on Tuesday Ryan Moore will be desperate to get off the mark at the Royal meeting, and here you can read the Betfair Ambassador's exclusive thoughts ahead of a full book of rides on Wednesday...
14:30 Ascot - Parbold
He is not well drawn in two, and needs to improve to win this, so I think that we have our work cut out. But the positives are that he ran well here when second in the Coventry last season, and he did put a disappointing Haydock performance behind him when we just couldn't reel in a progressive horse in That Is The Spirit at Epsom last time. A strongly-run 7f is what he needs, and he should run his race, but the draw concerns me, as do the 22 other runners. It is clearly a very open race but the two that would interest me would be French 2,000 Guineas fourth Muwaary, and Giovanni Boldini if he can reproduce his 2yo best. But, saying that, any one of a dozen could win this.
15:05 Ascot - Dangerous Moonlite
If any one of a dozen can with the Jersey, then the same is undoubtedly true of this race. Wesley Ward won this race by five lengths with the never-to-be-seen-again Jealous Again a few years ago - I wonder what happened to her - so it wouldn't be the biggest surprise in the world were his Spanish Pipedream, who made all at Keeneland on her only start, blasted home from pillar to post in this. I watched the video of her win and I was pretty impressed; she picked up well when asked, and she looks more of a powerful galloper rather than the sharper ones he normally brings over.
But on what we have seen over here National Stakes winner Tiggy Wiggy and Tipperary winner Anthem Aleander are the two to beat. I ride Dangerous Moonlite, who has the advantage of having won on her debut here, and I think the form of the race is working out ok. Like all these, she is totally unexposed, so let's hope that she can make a big stride forward and be competitive, and a midfield draw looks fine. I know that it was pretty much a toss-up which filly Hughesie chose, so my one obviously shows a fair bit at home.
15:45 Ascot - Dank
Treve is clearly going to take the world of beating if in anywhere near the form of her stunning Arc win last season, but the opposition can be cautiously optimistic of giving her a race after her reappearance defeat and possibly because of the fact that this is the first time she has raced abroad, though I personally wouldn't be too hopeful that travelling would get her beaten. But you have to remember that she was getting 11lb in the Arc, and she has got to keep finding improvement to stay ahead of the pack. And it could be that she was a very mature 3yo. But of course she is the one to beat.
If she does run well below par though, then Mukahdram, The Fugue and Magician are all genuine Group 1 horses who come right into the mix. Dank has something to find with all of those formwise, but I was happy enough with her when she was third in the Dubai Duty Free, where she clearly didn't get the clearest of runs, and she comes here in real good order.
She developed into a proper Group 1 horse in her own right last season - she had a tiny setback prior to her Duke Of Cambridge third here last year, so probably wasn't at her best that day - but 1m2f on good ground should be fine for her. In fact, the faster the better for her. We will find out today whether she can step forward again in what is by far her toughest race to date.
16:25 Ascot - Integral
I am not a big fan of saying things like this, but I'll be straight up and tell you that I think she is my best chance of the week. But the more that I look at the race, the less confident I become, as it is a very strong renewal. Even with her 5lb penalty you have to respect Sky Lantern, who beat my filly a length in the Sun Chariot last season, and there are plenty of others besides that are capable of going close.
Integral was beaten a head by Esoterique at Newmarket last month and, while there is no greater respecter of Andre Fabre than me, I do think we will get our revenge. The winner had the benefit of a recent outing going into that race, while I wasn't overly-hard on my filly considering that it was her reappearance and with a long season ahead. She has done really well since, and I'll be disappointed if she doesn't go close to winning. The step back down to a mile is in her favour, as she has plenty of pace.
17:00 Ascot - Queensberry Rules
I think that he was due to run at York earlier in the season, but got pulled out for some reason. But what I do know is that he never went a yard and was very disappointing when we fancied him for the Cambridgeshire last season. I don't know what happened there but it wasn't the first time he has run below par. I have always liked this horse since I rode him to win his first two starts, though, and he ran a cracker at this meeting last year when third in the Britannia.
I think 1m on decent ground in a strongly-run is what he wants, and hopefully a gelding operation since his last run would have perked his ideas up too. It remains to be seen whether being 32 of 33 will pan out well for us, but you play the hand you are dealt with in these races.
Abseil looks a very worthy favourite with just a 5lb penalty for his win at Epsom last time. I thought that he would win further than he did there - his work at home is better than a handicapper rated in the 90s - but he was still green there, and I think he still won that pretty comfortably. He is the one we all have to beat.
17:35 Ascot - Pyschometry
I think I will put up 1-2lb overweight here - it is a good job this race isn't in Japan as they don't allow jockeys to ride there, if they do - but I'll obviously be doing my best to limit it to a pound. Again, who knows how being drawn 1 of 25 is going to play out here - I suspect it isn't good news - but what I do know is that the expected better ground will suit her a lot more than the testing conditions she has run on at Chester and Goodwood this season.
Each time, she has travelled well, but found little when I let her down in the ground. But she hasn't run badly on either occasion - the second at Goodwood came out and won at Newbury last week - and I would like to think that she is a fair bit better than an 88-rated filly given the right conditions. There are a lot of progressive horses in here, but I give my filly a decent each way chance on decent ground and with luck in running. And if the draw doesn't scupper our chances.

Uttoxeter, 18 June 2014
4.35, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, ILEWINDELILAH, ridden by Jamie Moore and trained by Gary Moore, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer’s representative who stated that this was only the third start for the yard and that she had benefited from the fitting of blinkers for the second time. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of ILEWINDELILAH could be reviewed.

Hamilton Park, 18 June 2014
4.10, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference on the bend shortly after the start. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that BLUE JACKET (USA), unplaced, ridden by Emma Sayer, had interfered with PETERGATE, unplaced, ridden by Barry McHugh, who in turn interfered with DARLING BOYZ, unplaced, ridden by Phillip Makin. The Stewards found Sayer in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that she allowed her mount to drift in on the bend when insufficiently clear. They suspended her for 2 days as follows: Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 July 2014.
5.55, eighth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approximately three furlongs out. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that STROBE, placed fourth, ridden by Shane Gray, had interfered with YOURHOLIDAYISOVER (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Jack Garritty. The Stewards found Gray in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he manoeuvred his mount back towards the rail causing interference to YOURHOLIDAYISOVER (IRE). They suspended him for 3 days as follows: Wednesday 2, Thursday 3 and Friday 4 July 2014.

The Starter reported that FREE ENTRY (IRE), trained by James Tate, refused to enter the stalls. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
The Stewards noted that the winner, ANTHEM ALEXANDER (IRE), and TIGGY WIGGY (IRE), placed second, had interfered with NEWSLETTER (IRE), placed third, on the line but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved ANTHEM ALEXANDER (IRE)’s or TIGGY WIGGY (IRE)’s placing.
5.00, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approaching the furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, FIELD OF DREAM, ridden by Adam Kirby, had interfered with NICEOFYOUTOTELLME,, unplaced, ridden by Jim Crowley, who then interfered with AYAAR (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by Frankie Dettori. The Stewards found Kirby in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he manoeuvred right-handed to create a gap. They suspended him for 3 days as follows: Wednesday 2, Thursday 3 and Friday 4 July 2014.
They further noted that OCEAN TEMPEST interfered with BELGIAN BILL, who then interfered with LOVING SPIRIT, all unplaced, approximately one furlong out but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
Richard Hannon, the trainer of TRUMPET MAJOR (IRE), reported that the horse ran without a tongue strap because it had come adrift and could not be re-fitted.
5.35, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Jamie Spencer, the rider of QUEEN CATRINE (IRE), placed second, on the run to the line. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip without allowing his mount time to respond. The Stewards suspended Spencer for 3 days as follows: Wednesday 2, Thursday 3 and Friday 4 July 2014.
They further enquired into the use of the whip by William Twiston-Davies, the rider of WEE JEAN, placed third, from inside the two furlong marker. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Twiston-Davies for 2 days as follows: Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 July 2014.

Southwell, 18 June 2014
6.10, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, RED ROSSO, ridden by Trevor Whelan and trained by Rob Summers, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer who stated that the gelding appreciated both the drop back in trip to two miles and the good ground on this occasion. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of RED ROSSO could be reviewed. The Stewards ordered the gelding to be routine tested.
6.40, second race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, TAYARAT (IRE), ridden by John Dawson and trained by Michael Chapman, compared with its previous run at Southwell on 3 June 2014, where the gelding finished seventh of eleven, beaten by 19 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that TAYARAT (IRE) benefited from the step up in trip to three miles and half a furlong, having previously run over two miles and four furlongs.
7.40, fourth race
The Stewards gave permission for the three flights of hurdles in the back straight to be omitted due to low sun in this race and for the remainder of the meeting.
8.10, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into whether or not CINEVATOR (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Mr L Drowne, and EPEE CELESTE (FR), unplaced, ridden by Joe Cornwall had taken the correct course in the back straight. They interviewed Mr Drowne, Joe Cornwall and the Clerk of the Course Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found that both jockeys had incorrectly gone the wrong side of the wing of the site of the second hurdle in the back straight, but accepted their explanations that a chevron marker had been placed in the ground in front of a stricken horse, leading them to have reasonable cause to take the course which they did.
The Stewards therefore found Mr Drowne and Joe Cornwall not in breach of Rule (B)49.1. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered and also ordered a report to be sent to the British Horseracing Authority.

Estimate bids for fairytale repeat
The sheer delight on the Queen's face when Estimate won the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot 12 months ago was an abiding memory of the racing year and the dream of a famous repeat lives on.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained mare galloped into history in the hands of Ryan Moore, becoming the first horse since the race was first staged over 200 years ago to win the two-and-a-half-mile feature in the colours of a reigning monarch.
She was unable to make a significant impact on her only subsequent start in 2013, finishing seventh in Ascot's Long Distance Cup on Champions Day in October, and has not been seen in competitive action since.
Connections freely admit Estimate's early-season preparation for the defence of her crown has not been ideal, although confidence appears to have grown in recent weeks and the five-year-old thrilled in her work on Saturday morning.
Her Majesty's racing manager John Warren said: "Estimate had a slow start in her preparation due to some tweaked muscles that prevented her from running in the Sagaro Stakes. It has been a little frustrating not to get a prep race into her, but she's trained by Sir Michael Stoute and if there is anyone who can get her there without the benefit of a prep race he's the man to do it.
"In my mind I've got her finishing third, there are two other very good horses in there, but if the ground keeps drying out - she likes top of the ground - and if it helps her maybe use her stamina better than the others, then things can happen.
"Sir Michael seems upbeat and confident that she can put up a bold show. If she shows the same form as last year, and as she's a year older she might improve a pound or two, then hopefully she can be right up there. She has been working extremely well and Sir Michael is confident that he has got her ready for the challenge ahead."
Warren insists the Queen will not head to Ascot expecting Estimate to win on Thursday, having had plenty of experience of the highs and lows of racing.
"The Queen never expects anything, that's why she's so extraordinary. She's the best loser you could hope for, she's a realist. If you've owned horses for as long as she has, you've been through every hiccup," said Warren.
"She's most interested in the reasons, her pleasure is putting the jigsaw together. It's a jigsaw puzzle in her mind, and she's looking for the last piece to finish it.
"I remember speaking to her after Carlton House had won a Group Three at Sandown and she was much more interested in a race she had watched with one of her horses running somewhere else, like Pontefract. The horse had gone round the bend on the wrong leg and the jockey had the whip in the wrong hand. She was much more interested in that than winning a Group Three."
The horse most likely to upset the Royal celebrations is the Aidan O'Brien-trained Leading Light. The four-year-old has won six times from just eight career starts, claiming the Queen's Vase at last year's Royal meeting before going on to clinch Classic glory in the St Leger at Doncaster.
He appeared better than ever when making a winning return in the Vintage Crop Stakes and is favourite to give O'Brien a sixth Gold Cup victory following extraordinary four-time winner Yeats and 2011 hero Fame And Glory.
The trainer's son Joseph will be on board and he told At The Races: "He's always finished out his races very well, he won over two miles at Ascot last year and didn't look to be stopping that day. He has a great attitude but he has plenty of pace too, he's won a Group Three over 10 furlongs and is out of a Queen Mary winner so pace isn't a problem for him.
"You'd have to imagine he does (have similar qualities to Yeats and Fame And Glory). He gets into a great rhythm and is very laid-back and has a great constitution and can quicken when you need him. He seems to have everything, he ticks all the boxes.
"He won his prep race well and you'd be hopeful he gets the trip, but you can't be confident of a horse getting two and a half miles until they do it. If he got the trip you'd imagine he'd have a massive chance."
=================================== Treve stems the tide for bookmakers
Day two of Royal Ascot was seen as generally honours even between punters and bookmakers, despite a number of well-backed winners.
Carrying on where they left off on Tuesday, punters hit the ground running in the opening Jersey Stakes, as 9-2 joint-favourites Mustajeeb and Muwaary filled the first two places, trained by Dermot Weld and John Gosden respectively.
It was then the turn of the well-touted Anthem Alexander as she justified 9-4 favouritism in the Queen Mary Stakes just 35 minutes later.
However, welcome respite came for the bookmakers with the reverse of red-hot market leader Treve in the Prince of Wales's Stakes, as the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine could only finish third to The Fugue as an 8-13 chance.
It was not long before another favourite went in as Ryan Moore recorded a stylish success on Integral (9-4) in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes, b ut Abseil being sunk in the Hunt Cup as 20-1 chance Field Of Dream took top honours saw a big sigh of relief for the betting fraternity.
Victory for Mark Johnston's Muteela (9-2) in the closing Sandringham Handicap made it eight winning favourites from the 12 races over the first two days.
Coral's David Stevens said: "Day one was one of the worst Royal Ascot days in recent memory, and when the joint-favourites fought out the finish of the Jersey, followed by Anthem Alexander winning the second, we feared more of the same.
"However, Treve's third place stopped the rot, and Integral's victory was soon forgotten once Abseil finished out of the frame in the Hunt Cup, as victory for that one would have cost the industry millions.
"After two days it's all square, now bring on the Gold Cup and England v Uruguay!"
Paddy Power said: "Treve and Abseil getting chinned were stormers for the bookies and we've come out ahead on Wednesday. But the opening day was absolute carnage and the layers still have a steep hill to climb to come out on top."
Rory Jiwani for StanJames.com said: "We were braced for another battering as Treve was well backed and sent off the 8-13 favourite, but she appeared to struggle to pick up in the quick ground.
"Anthem Alexander in the Queen Mary was actually a good result for us as we had laid runner-up Tiggy Winky and American raider Spanish Pipedream who didn't get home."
Betfred spokesman Andrew Griffiths said: "It's been another bruising afternoon, but we just about came out on top.
"The day hinged on the results of the feature races. The Fugue was good, but Field Of Dream was heaven-sent and has keeps us in it going into day three."
David Williams of Ladbrokes cautioned: "It wasn't as bad as the opening day but it's still been hard work. We thought our luck had changed when Treve went down but it wasn't to last.
"Anthem Alexander, Integral, Mustajeeb and Muteala were all stinkers and we're heading into Ladies' Day on the ropes."
======================================== Watering begins at Ascot
Officials at Ascot began watering after racing on Wednesday.
Clerk of the course Chris Stickels outlined plans to put on four millimetres of water on the whole course after a drying day which saw two new course records set.
Stickels said said: "We have had a very good day with terrific racing but the ground has continued to dry so we are going to water.
"We are putting four millimetres on the whole course as the forecast indicates very minimal rain before racing tomorrow - a shower amounting to less than a millimetre.
"In light of that and the very drying conditions we have had this afternoon, we are going to put four millimetres on everything.
"The watering machines will be out very soon and the straight course will take up to 11pm, while the round course will be watered with pop-ups overnight."
The ground was changed after the first race to good to firm on the straight course from good, and on the round course to good to firm, good in places from good.
======================================== Muteela hangs for Sandringham glory
Muteela held off the late thrust of Queen Catrine to keep her unbeaten record intact in a thrilling renewal of the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot.
The Mark Johnston-trained Muteela was the 9-2 favourite following a hat-trick of victories at Lingfield, Beverley and Newmarket and forced the pace from the outset in the hands of Paul Hanagan.
The challengers were queuing up to have a pop at the market leader entering the final furlong, but she stuck her head down determinedly to fend off all-comers on the run to the line.
There was a late worry for her supporters as 14-1 shot Queen Catrine flashed home down the middle of the track and there was little between them as they hit the line, with the judge calling Muteela the winner by a short head.
Wee Jean and Graceful Grit finished third and fourth respectively.
Hanagan said: "To be honest, I wasn't that confident we'd won, because the second horse was quite away from me. Jamie (Spencer) said well done to me when we were pulling up, so that was enough for me.
"It would have done her good if the second horse had come to her, as she was on her own the whole way with no company.
"Every race she's run she's up there with the pace. She wouldn't really quicken, but she's very genuine and keeps galloping all day.
"We had a little fall out at Chester (earlier in the season) when I fell off her, but she's none the worse for it."
Johnston said: "She's very fast and there would be a slight debate about whether we should go back to seven furlongs, but there are so many opportunities at a mile and we've had this race in mind for quite a long time, so it's great to do it.
"We thought when she has run before that she needed every inch of a mile but the dam injects so much speed.
"Everyone was asking whether we were disappointed to get an 8lb rise for winning at Newmarket last time, but she needed that to get a run here.
"It's a tremendous family. I trained the dam (Nufoos) and I trained the half-brother Awzaan who won the Middle Park.
"She took a while to mature and grow up, but we knew this was on the cards.
"It's so hard to get a winner here, we didn't manage to get one last year so it's a great relief.
"I entered her in the Falmouth Stakes yesterday. As she has won over that course and distance, it would be very tempting."
====================================== It's a Must for Weld in Jersey
Mustajeeb led home a one-two for owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The Dermot Weld-trained colt finished third to Kingman in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and was always in the front rank in this seven-furlong contest, which represented quite a drop in class. Initially the field spilt into two groups, but they soon came together as That Is The Spirit took them to the two-furlong pole.
Pat Smullen had tracked the leader for much of the journey and went on from there, closely attended by Paul Hanagan on Muwaary, who had also raced handily. The two 9-2 joint-favourites had it to themselves through the final furlong, with Mustajeeb holding the upper hand and prevailing by a length. Giovanni Boldini was another two and a quarter lengths back in third.
Smullen said: "I couldn't believe how well it worked for us. There wasn't a great deal of pace early and I just got him to get on the bridle and travel. Once I was there (in front) I was never going to take him back as we knew he'd stay all the way to the line.
"He's not a slow horse and, to be fair, he had some solid form coming into the race. It's beautiful good ground, perfectly safe and this horse really relished it."
Weld said: "Kingman is an outstanding miler and we were beaten fair and square in the Irish Guineas.
"This colt really appreciated the better ground today, I thought he'd win and he did it well. He's a very genuine, tough, nice colt. It's nice for Sheikh Hamdan, he's a home-bred horse and it's lovely for Sheikh Hamdan to have the one-two.
"This has been a very consistent horse for us. He's a good Group winner over a mile and he'll probably go back to a mile in the future. He's a horse to look forward to."
It was a reversal of fortunes for the trainers of the front two from Epsom earlier in the month, when John Gosden's Taghrooda held off the Weld-trained Tarfasha in the Investec Oaks.
Gosden said: "We'll let Dermot have this one, I'm glad it was the other way round in the Oaks.
"I thought it was a very high quality race and they (first two) both came out of a Guineas (Muwaary was fourth in the French Guineas). The speed of the race and the power they showed, they were well clear of the third and they are both owned by the same man, so he had no problem in the final furlong."
Angus Gold, racing manager to Sheikh Hamdan, said: "Dermot was second in the Oaks to John Gosden, so he's got his revenge. I'm thrilled for the Sheikh and both trainers. They are improving three-year-olds and showed their class today. Dermot has always believed in this horse and it's great to see him do it."
======================================= Dream result for Osborne and Kirby
Field Of Dream made it third time lucky to lift the Royal Hunt Cup.
The Jamie Osborne-trained gelding has been a regular fixture in the one-mile cavalry charge, finishing fourth in 2012 and sixth last year.
As 12 months ago partnered by Adam Kirby, the seven-year-old burst through inside the final half-furlong to win by a length and a quarter from Chil The Kite, with the same distance back to Steeler, who led from halfway.
Sea Shanty was fourth for the Queen.
Kirby said of the 20-1 winner: "I'm chuffed to bits with him. He's been a good horse to me, really, as I won a Bunbury Cup on him and he was unlucky in this race last year.
"He loves it when they go quick, he loves coming there on the bridle and he's done it well really. He's a good horse when it goes right.
"It ended up going perfect. We got loads of cover, it got real tight but I knew when it opened up I could go.
"He's a bit of an old character, but fair play to Jamie Osborne, who told me he'd trained him differently and he was in really good nick - he was spot on."
Osborne said: "I was hopeful. He's ran in the last two Hunt Cups having been to Dubai and had a few runs. By the time we were getting to June we were nearly piecing him back together, rather than training him for a race.
"We decided we'd leave to Dubai out and leave him fresh for this race in the hope we'd get a bit more out of him.
"His work of late has been very good. He's done his job leading Toast Of New York the last couple of weeks.
"He's a good old stick and at the age of seven maybe we've worked out how to train him!
"He's in the Bunbury Cup with the penalty, so that could be the one."
The runner-up's trainer Hughie Morrison said: "We've just been beaten in the most competitive handicap of the year off 109. That's Group form.
"We'll have a look around for a race, but we can go anywhere with that turn of foot."
========================================== Moore makes no mistake on Integral
Ryan Moore chose the 10th race of Royal Ascot to announce his arrival on the big stage with a typically sangfroid ride aboard Integral in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes.
Moore's virtues have this season been extolled more than ever before following a golden run of form.
But the unassuming jockey knows better than most that the daily ritual of winners means nothing without blockbuster hits.
Enter stage right Integral, the four-year-old daughter of Dalakhani whose rapidity was enough to see her break the course record over the one-mile straight track.
Part of Moore's brilliance is a timeless ability to make even the challenging look straightforward.
His ride aboard Sir Michael Stoute's filly, the 9-4 favourite, was a case in point.
Integral is far from an easy ride - she was particularly headstrong when second at Newmarket in May - so her jockey reacted accordingly.
Even at halfway, Integral was ridden with restraint as Masarah and Esoterique, who defeated Stoute's inmate last time out, cut out the pace.
This enabled the Cheveley Park-owned inmate to find her rhythm in her own time, which she did with almost orchestral ease once the front-running duo had cried off.
L'Amour De Ma Vie was the only one of those prominent from the off to stay in the hunt, but she had little response once Moore went for home approaching the one-furlong marker.
The five-year-old grey, trained in France by Swedish native Pia Brandt, honourably finished second, but was two lengths away from Integral, with Purr Along finishing strongly for third place.
Moore said: "She's a very talented filly. She came in very late and all she's done is improve with every start.
"She's got a lot more professional. She won well and I kind of hoped she'd do that really.
"It went very smoothly. She took me there a bit earlier than I'd have wanted, but I was running out of horses to follow at that stage."
Stoute believes Integral has the pace to make quite an impact over shorter distances than a mile.
He said: "She's a good filly and progressing. I'm really delighted. It was a good run in the Dahlia Stakes and we knew we'd come on from that.
"She's got a great engine and great speed. She could be effective at less than a mile, that's for sure.
"There's the Falmouth Stakes (at Newmarket) and the Matron (at Leopardstown), so she's got a programme, but we could always duck into a seven-furlong race."
Cheveley Park Stud were winning the race for a fourth time.
Managing director Chris Richardson said: "She's got some turn of foot considering there's not a lot of her. "She sparkled in her work last week, so we were quite hopeful."
Brandt did not rule out bringing L'Amour De Ma Vie back for another try in England.
She said: "She has proved she can do it in Europe. She won in Dubai so we knew she was a pretty good filly.
"I'm proud of her and we could easily bring her back here now. Otherwise there's Deauville and maybe a race in the States."
Purr Along's trainer Johnny Murtagh said the four-year-old filly could also be sighted in the Falmouth, adding: "I hope she's a Group One filly."
========================================== Anthem plays victory march
Anthem Alexander justified her tall home reputation with victory in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Trainer Eddie Lynam was eager to go for this five-furlong event after her win at Tipperary earlier in the month and it was easy to see why as she arrived on the scene full of running under Pat Smullen a quarter of a mile out.
Asked to go about her business just over a furlong from home, the 9-4 favourite was pressed by another Irish raider in Newsletter, who kept her honest all the way to the line before just losing second to Tiggy Wiggy, who was a neck down on the winner.
Smullen, who was recording a quick double after Mustajeeb in the Jersey Stakes, said: "She's bred for it and she's very, very quick.
"Today she was a little bit sluggish away from the gates, just through lack of experience. The gap was closing in front of me a furlong and a half down, I had to take it and I was probably there too soon, but she's a very fast filly.
"She's still a little bit green and there's a lot of improvement in her. She could have given up if she was weak-minded, but she's genuine and tough and stuck it out well to the line. She's another good Eddie Lynam sprinter."
Lynam said: "She's the real deal and she'll get better. We haven't had her an awful long time. Noel O'Callaghan (owner) was very kind to give her to me and he was very brave as everyone was trying to buy her. I'm delighted, as when you refuse money for a horse you need a bit of luck.
"I think she's a very good filly and she'll probably go for the Cherry Hinton (at Newmarket), but I'll talk to Noel."
Richard Hughes, rider of the runner-up, said: "I was unlucky they went so quick. At halfway she just struggled a bit, going from running on heavy ground to that. She came off the bit and I hit a flat spot for a furlong and a half and then when I really got into her and made her go she put her head down."
Tiggy Wiggy's trainer Richard Hannon said: "There's a massive difference between winning and being placed in these races, we'll just have to go home and make her faster! There'll be plenty of good days for her during the season and she has run a super race. She can easily go six furlongs now."
Trainer Ken Condon said of the 33-1 third Newsletter: "We always liked her a lot and after she won a maiden at the Curragh she just wasn't herself at Naas so we put a line through that. We're delighted for her, and we could look at something like the Cherry Hinton."
======================================== Treve fails to fire
Connections of Treve feel she didn't give her true running in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Last year's brilliant Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine had to settle for third, almost three lengths behind impressive winner The Fugue.
Her jockey Frankie Dettori said: "Going to the start she didn't feel like Treve and at the back of my mind I knew then I was in trouble. I was hoping in the race she would loosen up and warm up, but I knew my fate at the three-furlong marker. She ran a good third, but it's not the Treve we all know."
He added: "Something is definitely wrong and what's wrong was before the race. Full credit to Sheikh Joaan (Al Thani, owner) and Criquette (Head-Maarek, trainer). They brought her to Royal Ascot and unfortunately it didn't happen.
"Now it's back to the drawing board, I suspect a summer break and back for the Arc, which she won last year. It's not all bad. We just have to regroup, that's all."
Head-Maarek said: "She didn't extend herself like she does usually and I'm going to put her in a longer distance race where they will go slower and maybe it will be easier. With fillies from three to four they change and you never know what can happen.
"She won the Prix de Diane when the ground was very fast and there is a lot of grass there today. There is a good covering of grass. It's not the ground, it's her action. I had a problem with her feet last year and that is why she couldn't run before she won the Prix de Diane.
"Maybe I'll find something was wrong. With the travelling, you never know what can happen with horses. She's going to go back (home) tomorrow morning. We lost the battle. We haven't lost the war. Today is June 18 - Waterloo - so the French were beat!"
Aidan O'Brien was delighted with the effort of the runner-up Magician and a return to Ascot for next month's King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes could be on the agenda.
O'Brien said: "He ran a stormer. He loves fast ground and plenty of pace. That (King George) is absolutely an option, because we know he gets a mile and a half."
========================================= Fugue floors Treve at Ascot
The Fugue produced a minor shock in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot as she floored red-hot favourite Treve.
Always ideally placed by William Buick, the John Gosden-trained mare (11-2) sat in the group off a fast pace set by Elkaayed.
Absolutely full of running at the two pole, she stayed on strongly as Treve struggled to close the gap in finishing a never-nearer third, with Magician in the runner-up spot, beaten a length and three-quarters.
Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve did not pick up as expected for Frankie Dettori, but there was no denying a deserved success for The Fugue who has not always enjoyed the best of fortune at the highest level.
Buick said: "She's been an absolute star for me and everybody back at the yard. She proved today what she can do against top-class horses. I must say a huge thank you to everyone back at Clarehaven for getting this filly here today. When she gets an uncomplicated run like she did today and they come back to her, she's lethal, like she was there.
"It means everything to everyone involved."
The Fugue is owned and bred by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and his wife Lady Madeleine.
Lady Lloyd Webber said: "We're so excited and she so deserves this. It hasn't gone her way sometimes and this is a very big stage to do it on. She's got her recognition as one of the best horses in Europe."
Her husband was witnessing The Fugue win in person for the first time. He said: "We did genuinely think we were going to let her have a stroll round the park! We didn't believe she would do this, but it's the best day in our whole racing career."
Gosden said: "This is great and the interesting thing about this race was that it was all about girl power, with Treve and this filly. It didn't work, the trip to Dubai (for the Dubai Duty Free). We trained her in the winter and she was like a little bud that went tight, but now she's flowered and she looks great.
"She got knocked over in the Oaks (two years ago), she got absolutely creamed and should have won, but she remains a very brave, lovely filly. She has superb owner-breeders, they don't have many in training and to have a filly of this quality, to beat the colts, is what it's all about.
"Treve is a wonderous filly and I would not want to take on Treve on soft ground over a mile and a half in the Arc - I wouldn't want to go near her, I think she's unbeatable.
"But today was summer racing, a mile and a quarter on good to firm ground, and that's the difference. You look at races like the Eclipse and the Juddmonte International and hope we have summer weather. She has little feet like a ballerina and doesn't like soft ground, so if it's soft we don't run."

INCREDULITY reigned at Wexford on Wednesday after Shield, an eight-length winner of the 2m2f novice hurdle, was thrown out because his rider weighed in 8lb light.
Jockey Robbie Power had seemed to provide Aidan O'Brien with a reason to smile during a trying week at Royal Ascot but the stewards quickly announced an inquiry after the weighing-in procedure.
It transpired that Shield's weight cloth had been left in the stable when the horse was being saddled and the stewards had no choice but to disqualify Shield and award the race to 8-13 favourite Bentelimar.
Aidan O'Brien's brother Jim, who saddled the horse, admitted his mistake and his honesty was praised afterwards by the acting stewards. Aidan O'Brien was fined €2,000 for the offence.
Power said: "It was an honest mistake - these things happen, and it is far from the end of the world."

Sole Power is to miss Saturday's Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot following his brilliant display in the King's Stand on Tuesday. Sole Power misses the Diamond Jubilee The Eddie Lynam-trained seven-year-old clinched the five-furlong Group One for the second successive year with a blistering turn of foot in the hands of Richard Hughes, and it was suggested afterwards he could bid for the big sprint double. However, a change of heart on the back of a hard race means Sole Power is now set to head straight for the July Cup at Newmarket, a race in which he finished fifth last summer. Lynam still has a major contender for the Diamond Jubilee in stable companion Slade Power, who made an impressive return in the Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh last month. He said of Sole Power: "He doesn't run. He's in great form but a bit tired. We'll think about Newmarket."

Trainer Ger Lyons admits there are unlikely to be any excuses for Obliterator at Royal Ascot on Thursday as he aims to get his season back on track in the Tercentenary Stakes. Ger Lyons: Trains Obliterator The Oratorio colt is bred to be smart as a half-brother to Classic-winning filly Just The Judge and made a huge impression on his racecourse debut at the Curragh last September. He ran with plenty of promise when runner-up in Newmarket's Feilden Stakes at Newmarket on his seasonal reappearance, but toiled in the Curragh mud when finishing tailed off in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. He steps up to a mile and a quarter in Berkshire and with conditions set to be more favourable, Lyons is expecting a bold show. He said: "He's in good order and it wasn't the horse's fault last time. I shouldn't have ran him on that ground, it's as simple as that. "He's a horse who is very ground dependant and the way the ground is at Ascot at the moment is absolutely perfect for him. "I've always thought he was crying out for 10 furlongs and I don't think we'll have any excuses on Thursday. "If he's good enough he'll win and if he isn't he won't." Obliterator is the highest rated horse in a nine-strong Group Three field. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Cannock Chase has plenty of work to do on official ratings, but has looked the part at Windsor and Newbury this season and steps up in class in search of the hat-trick. Bruce Raymond, racing manager for owner Saeed Suhail, said: "He's done nothing wrong and Sir Michael is very pleased with his progress. "I don't think Sir Michael would run him unless he thought he was up to it and hopefully he has a very good chance. "Any rain would help his chances." Other contenders include Richard Hannon's Barley Mow, William Haggas' runaway Sandown winner Mutakayyef and Postponed from Luca Cumani's yard.

Officials at Ascot began watering after racing on Wednesday. A warm day has led officials to water Royal Ascot Clerk of the course Chris Stickels outlined plans to put on four millimetres of water on the whole course after a drying day which saw two new course records set. "The watering machines will be out very soon and the straight course will take up to 11pm, while the round course will be watered with pop-ups overnight." The ground was changed after the first race to good to firm on the straight course from good, and on the round course to good to firm, good in places from good. The attendance on day two of Royal Ascot was 40,459, which compares to 38,758 last year. Nick Smith, Ascot's Head of Communications and International Racing, said: "We have enjoyed an excellent second day at Royal Ascot, and it's very satisfying to see the crowd figure is up on last year. "We look forward to tomorrow's Gold Cup card and hope for another fine run by Her Majesty The Queen's Estimate, who won the race last year. The vibes all seem to be very positive. "It promises to be another exciting day for racegoers. "We have sold out in the Grandstand and Silver Ring tomorrow, but people can still attend and pay on the day for entry to the Heath."

========================================= 17:35 Thursday 19th June Royal Ascot Day 3 Preview
I was going to leave the first race of the day, The Norfolk Stakes, but Tiggy Wiggy's run yesterday has made me think Mukhmal is a good price at 11/2. Unbeaten, he beat Roudee comfortably at Chester, from a poor draw, and giving the Dascombe horse 6lb. Roudee was 7th in the Windsor Castle, not too shabby, and 4 3/4 lengths behind Tiggy Wiggy at Sandown when giving the filly 5lb. In short, Mukhmal's form lines tie in with some above average Ascot performances this week and he's too big. The worry is that The Great War could be anything and he will likely be able to race prominently behind the speedy To Be Determined on his outside. I'd rather the selection was drawn nearer those 2. The Great War probably wins but I'm not a backer at even money. Baitha Alga was originally intended for the Coventry but drops back in trip for this. I'm keener at the prices on Snap Shots but he has some stepping up to do on his soft ground debut win. Royal Ascot 14.30 - Mukhmal 1pt win
If there was no Stormardal in the field for the Tercentenary Stakes then I'd be putting up Barley Mow to make all. I'm not sure he's quite Group 3 quality in a truly run race however, and he may be up against something decent in Cannock Chase. The worry is the ground as he is a brother to 2 winners who liked cut and Ryan Moore said that it was quick enough for him underfoot at Newbury. That was a brilliant performance in a handicap won last year by Ascot scorer Hillstar from the same yard and Cannock Chase could well be Group company for all he has a bit to find on figures. Cloudscape has disappointed of late and he needed to win well at Windsor last time to be a confident selection for this. If they water then Cannock Chase is a must bet at 5/2. Royal Ascot 15.05 - Cannock Chase 2pt win
The Ribblesdale doesn't often chuck up a surprise and the 2 fillies at the head of the market are very interesting. Lesser exposed is the French filly Vazira but she is short for a first try at the trip and the ground is an unknown. She is certainly related to plenty of soft ground performs and I think Inchilla should probably be favourite on the basis of her run in the Oaks. I just wonder if she is a touch short of Group quality though and likely to find something too good. I want to back her at 4/1 but can't quite bring myself to push the button. At the prices Bright Approach is interesting but Pricewise has gobbled up the 8's available and I can't find much between her and Wonderstruck at 8/1. The yard won this a few years ago and she will certainly see out every bit of the trip given she could get 2 miles on breeding. A few like to go forward and it should be a proper test at least. She should go on the ground given that 3 of her winning relatives went on good to firm so I'm not worried about both her wins coming on good to soft. The form of her maiden win is very strong looking at how well the 2nd won next time and I fancy she'll be placed at least. Royal Ascot 15.45 - Wonderstruck 1pt e/w
Favourites have a good record in the Gold Cup and Leading Light has been my fancy for this for some time. Aiden O'Brien knows exactly how to win this and whilst the favourite doesn't ping as a 2 and a half miler on breeding, he has won a Leger and won here over 2 miles last year in the Queen's Vase and wasn't stopping. However, I'm not sure he's much of a bet now at 6/5 in a what looks a strong renewal. Estimate hasn't had the perfect preparation whilst Simenon and Ahzeemah, who both look a little big at this stage, are probably just short of this class. Of them though, Ahzeemah has a great record here on quick ground and looks worth a chancer at 25/1. He missed the Dubai carnival this year in order to concentrate on the Gold Cup and didn't shape badly first up at York this term in what looked an ideal prep race. There's bundles of stamina on his dam's side and he's worth a go at the trip. Pale Mimosa has a fair bit to find to reverse form with Leading Light though she will be better for the run. The one at a massive price I want to give a chance to is Shwaiman at 100/1. He has place claims on the basis of his staying on efforts in the Chester Cup and in a Listed contest at York and he looks worth a go at this marathon trip. He wasn't unfancied for a Listed contest here last October over 14 furlongs on unsuitably soft ground but conditions will be more in his favour this afternoon. Royal Ascot 16.25 - Ahzeemah 0.5pt ew Royal Ascot 16.25 - Shwaiman 0.5pt e/w
Yesterday saw the mile handicap fields all going stand side. I think there may be a reaction to that today as it still doesn't benefit those drawn low to come over and I think low numbers will stay far side. Here are the draws of horses that have led on any of their last 4 starts: 15, 16, 19, 20, 27, 28, 30, 31, 33…and 3. I am therefore omitting any runners drawn lower than 14. Out of 18 comes Idea and I want to back this unexposed Stoute plot more than anything else in the race. He's 10/1 and his draw will be a problem if they all come stand side but not if they split as it could keep him out of trouble. He's certainly off a handy mark and bred to appreciate this ground too. Of the big prices, Complicit has a shot on handicap debut but isn't chucked in whilst Free Code is worth a punt should Spark Plug run well earlier on the card. Of the others I really can't split Zarwaan and Born In Bombay, both at 12/1, and, with the major bookies paying 5 places, I'm happy to stick 3 up. Both of these are drawn well and Zarwaan, who was giving weight to Jersey Stakes 2nd Muwaary when second to him at Newbury, must still be competitive off 101. He should definitely appreciate better ground. Born In Bombay didn't settle at Newmarket but should have a better chance behind this strong gallop and this former Dante entrant is surely better than a mark of 83. I fancy him to reverse form with Hors De Combat at the very least. Royal Ascot 17.00 - Idea 1pt e/w Royal Ascot 17.00 - Zarwaan 1pt e/w Royal Ascot 17.00 - Born In Bombay 1pt e/w
Favourites do not have the best record in the King George V Stakes and Elite Army, who is still off a handy mark, worries me given he took a keen hold last time and the ground may be quick enough. Windshear is probably best off at the weights but wasn't drawn very well out in 21. There is no great pace on and I wonder if Richard Hughes will try and get over to be up with the pace. That certainly seems his best chance. A lack of pace will help Truth Or Dare who's mark has eased and is not badly treated on 2 year old form with Kingston Hill. The ground is a big plus but he doesn't entirely convince at the trip. Either way he's worth a speculative punt at 33/1 with Cam Hardie claiming 7lb. Wrangler is obvious in his appeal but may not be so effective on this quick ground. I was hoping that Personal Opinion would be bigger than 10/1 but he does still warrant a bet and looks progressive. I like Buick on the round course and he should be full of confidence after yesterday. This is a step up for the horse but he is better than the bare result last time and will almost certainly reverse form with Arab Dawn. His dam was a fast ground winner and we know he gets the trip. Royal Ascot 17.35 - Truth Or Dare 0.5pt e/w Royal Ascot 17.35 - Personal Opinion 1pt e/w
Rein Man =============================================== Ryan Moore got off the mark for the meeting when his strong fancy Integral won yesterday, and today he has another full book of six rides including last year's Gold Cup winner Estimate who bids to repeat his success. Read Ryan's exclusive thoughts here...
14:30 Ascot - Mind Of Madness
I imagine that Aidan's The Great War will be a warm favourite here after a couple of impressive fast-ground wins over 5f, though it is interesting that he is fitted with a tongue tie for the first time and there are a few similarly unexposed horses ranged against him here. But, that said, it doesn't look a strong Norfolk. Mukhmal did it well from a wide draw at Chester and I was quite impressed by Baitha Alga when he beat me in the Woodcote at Epsom.
I have picked up the ride of Mind of Madness, who makes a quick reappearance after finishing in midfield in the Windsor Castle on Tuesday. Things didn't go his way there, and connections obviously feel that he is in good enough shape to take his chance. He definitely comes into the reckoning on the form of his first two starts; like I said, it doesn't look a strong Norfolk and The Great War is probably the one to beat, unless the American filly is smart.
15:05 Ascot - Cannock Chase
On official ratings, he has a fair bit to find with a few of these but I think there is plenty more to come from my colt and I quite fancy his chances. He won his maiden well at Windsor and then was working nicely before he stepped into handicap company at Newbury last time, and he pretty much won as we hoped that he would. And I think that was a fair race, too. He obviously handled the quick ground at Newbury well - though very fast ground here would worry me - and he has continued to impress at home.
It's a fair step up from winning off a mark of 89 to running in a Group 3, but we are not scared to test them when we think we have the right horse - Hillstar, last season, being one example - and I think that he will be able to cope ok.
15:45 Ascot - Terrific
Inchila will probably be the favourite here after her troubled passage in the Oaks last time, where she clearly would have finished a good second with a clear run. She obviously has the form to go close but it will be a different test for her today, and she is backing up after less than a fortnight's break, so it definitely won't be straightforward. And this race is often won by a filly who has sidestepped Epsom. And Saint-Alary runner-up Vazira isn't far off her form-wise, too, and in fact could be the one to beat.
I ride Terrific, who ran below par at Chester last time. But I think today's faster ground will suit her a lot better, and the trip and track could help her improve too, as she is by Galileo out of a stayer. She has to step forward around 10lb to be competitive here, but it's possible and I think Aidan quite likes her.
16:20 Ascot - Estimate
She obviously gave me one of my most memorable days in the saddle when winning this race last year, but this looks a far, far stronger renewal and it has been well-documented that Estimate hasn't had a smooth preparation. But don't get the impression that she hasn't been pleasing us at home, it is just that you have to be realistic with the likes of Leading Light, Brown Panther, Altano and Tac De Boistron in opposition, to name but four. That's a far stronger line-up than the likes of Simenon and Top Trip who she saw off so tenaciously last year. But her record speaks for itself, she loves Ascot and fast ground, is a proven stayer, nicely drawn, and goes well fresh, so there are plenty of positives, too.
Leading Light looks a worthy favourite, as the St Leger winner was very impressive when beating Royal Diamond at Navan on his reappearance, Brown Panther arguably posted a career-best at Sandown last time, and Tac de Boistron would be a massive danger to all if we did get any unexpected rain. It's a very good Gold Cup.
17:00 Ascot - Bow Creek
Ran really well when second to Kingfisher in the Dee Stakes, and the winner didn't run too badly when finishing in midfield in the Derby. I don't think the step back down to a mile will be a problem for my mount, but I think fast ground might be and he doesn't look the best handicapped horse in here. Idea could still be ahead of the handicapper, even after going up 10lb after winning at Kempton, and Bilimbi is better than he showed for me at Haydock last time - I didn't give him the greatest ride that day, as I didn't want to be in front - and the first-time cheekpieces could help him, too.
17:35 Ascot - Wrangler
This looks a hot handicap, and you will need to have about 10lb in hand to be winning this. I was particularly impressed by Elite Army's Sandown win last month - and he is my idea of the likeliest winner, if settling - but obviously I have a decent chance on Wrangler, as well. The big question mark for him is whether the fast ground will be a negative and on the evidence of his four runs to date, you have to say it probably is, as he clearly handles testing ground very well.
But if he does take his chance, then I think he is still fairly treated off a mark of 93, and a fast-run handicap over 1m4f should suit him really well. He showed a good attitude to win for me at Haydock last time, but I could have hoped for a better draw than 16. =============================================== Ryan Moore got off the mark for the meeting when his strong fancy Integral won yesterday, and today he has another full book of six rides including last year's Gold Cup winner Estimate who bids to repeat his success. Ascot, 19 June 2014
2.30, first race
The Stewards ordered TO BE DETERMINED (USA) to be examined by the Veterinary Officer post-race and following their examination the Veterinary Officer reported that the filly was showing no abnormalities.
3.05, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into two possible incidents of interference.
In the first incident approaching the furlong marker, having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that CLOUDSCAPE (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by William Buick, had interfered with OBLITERATOR (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Jamie Spencer. The Stewards found Buick in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he manoeuvred left when not clear. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Thursday 3 July 2014.
In the second incident on the run to the line, having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, CANNOCK CHASE (USA), ridden by Ryan Moore, had interfered with BARLEY MOW (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by Richard Hughes. The Stewards found Moore in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift right into the whip. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Thursday 3 and Friday 4 July 2014.
3.45, third race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, BRACELET (IRE), ridden by Joseph O’Brien and trained by Aidan O’Brien, compared with its previous run at Newmarket on 4 May 2014 where the filly finished fourteenth of seventeen, beaten 10½ lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the filly was suited by the step up in trip. They ordered BRACELET (IRE) to be routine tested.
4.25, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Joseph O’Brien, the rider of the winner, LEADING LIGHT (IRE), from 3 furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended O’Brien for 7 days as follows: Thursday 3, Friday 4, Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Monday 7, Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 July 2014. Under Rule (B)54 the Stewards also fined the rider £3,000.
They further enquired into the use of the whip by Jim Crowley, the rider of MISSUNITED (IRE), from approaching 2 furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Crowley for 4 days as follows: Thursday 3, Friday 4, Sunday 6 and Monday 7 July 2014.
The Stewards noted that the winner, LEADING LIGHT (IRE), had interfered with BROWN PANTHER, placed fourth, who then interfered with ESTIMATE (IRE), placed second, who then interfered with MISSUNITED (IRE), placed third, approaching the furlong marker but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved LEADING LIGHT (IRE)’s placing.
The record of vaccinations in the passport of MISSUNITED (IRE), trained by Michael Winters, did not comply with the Rules of Racing. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Rule (E)18 and fined him £140.
5.00, fifth race
The Stewards noted that HORS DE COMBAT, placed third, had interfered with ZARWAAN, placed fifth, who then interfered with IFWECAN, unplaced, ½ furlong out but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved HORS DE COMBAT’s placing.
5.35, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Joseph O’Brien, the rider of CARLO BUGATTI (IRE), unplaced, from 2½ furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended O’Brien for 2 days as follows: Thursday 10 and Monday 14 July 2014.
19/06/2014
Southwell, 19 June 2014
2.20, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference in the closing stages. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that LAMORAK (FR), placed second, ridden by Sean Levey, had interfered with the winner, HOLBERG SUITE, ridden by Nicky Mackay. The Stewards found Levey in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed the colt to drift left. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Thursday 3 July 2014.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Nicky Mackay, the rider of the winner, HOLBERG SUITE, from near the four furlong marker. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Mackay for 7 days as follows: Thursday 3, Friday 4, Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Monday 7, Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 July 2014.
2.55, second race
John Balding, the trainer of IMAGINARY WORLD (IRE) declared blinkers and cheek pieces in error. Under Schedule (B)4 5.6 the Stewards gave permission for eye shields and cheek pieces to be substituted and fined him £140.
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, THE GREAT GABRIAL, ridden by B.A. Curtis and trained by Alan McCabe, compared with its previous run at Kempton on 5 June 2014 where the gelding finished twelfth of thirteen, beaten by 15 ½ lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding was suited by the return to the Fibresand at Southwell. They ordered THE GREAT GABRIAL to be routine tested.
3.30, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, MAKE ON MADAM (IRE), ridden by Jack Garritty, had interfered with SPINDLE (IRE), placed third, ridden by Andrew Mullen. The Stewards found Garritty in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed the filly to drift left causing interference. They suspended him for 4 days as follows: Thursday 3, Friday 4, Sunday 6 and Monday 7 July 2014.
5.20, fifth race
The Stewards noted that OUTBACKER (IRE), placed second and WILDCAT LASS (USA), unplaced had interfered with TWO SHADES OF GREY (IRE), placed third and MISS ACCLAIMED (IRE), unplaced, shortly after leaving the stalls but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
The Stewards noted that there was interference between WILDCAT LASS (USA), unplaced and BUY OUT BOY, unplaced, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
5.55, seventh race
The Stewards noted that the winner, GOLD CLASS and IRENE HULL (IRE), placed second had interfered with SLEET (IRE), placed third, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved GOLD CLASS’s and IRENE HULL (IRE)’s placings.
19/06/2014
Ripon, 19 June 2014
2.45, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approximately three and a half furlongs out. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that BOSUN BREESE, placed third, ridden by Paul Mulrennan, had interfered with SWENDAB (IRE), placed, fourth, ridden by Graham Lee. They found the interference was accidental.
4.35, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the fall of Miss M. Edden, the rider of FLAG OF GLORY, on leaving the stalls. They interviewed Miss Edden, and having heard her evidence and viewed recordings of the incident the Stewards found that the fall was caused by the gelding stumbling as he left the stalls. Being satisfied that no other horse or rider was involved, the Stewards took no further action.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of MCBIRNEY (USA), ridden by Mrs R. Wilson and trained by Paul D’Arcy, which was restrained at the rear and tenderly ridden throughout to finish sixth of nine beaten some 15¾ lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer’s representative. They also received observations from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated that her instructions were to sit behind, stick close to the rail and make an effort from two furlongs out. She added that she became frightened by the loose horse which unseated its rider at the start but was happy with her position as she turned out of the back straight. She further stated that turning into the home straight she was still concerned about the loose horse. Having seen the film she agreed that she had failed to make enough effort to obtain the best possible placing. The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions but stated he was unhappy with the ride given to MCBIRNEY (USA) and that Mrs Wilson had sat too far out of her ground. Having received a report from the Veterinary Officer on the second examination the gelding was found to be lame right fore. The trainer’s representative added that in his opinion this was a normal occurrence for the gelding following a race. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)59.4 and guilty of failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. They suspended her for 14 days on dates to be notified by the British Horseracing Authority.
The Stewards noted that AMIR PASHA (UAE), unplaced, had interfered with PATAVIUM (IRE), placed second, who in turn interfered with POLITBUREAU, placed fourth, approximately one and a half furlongs out but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
19/06/2014
Lingfield Park, 19 June 2014
5.50, first race
The Stewards noted that STAMP OF APPROVAL (IRE), unplaced, had interfered with MIDLANDER (IRE), placed second, on leaving the stalls, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
8.00, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, DAYDREAMER, ridden by Seb Sanders, had interfered with JARLATH, placed third, ridden by Steve Drowne, which then interfered with MASTERPAVER, placed second, ridden by Robert Tart. They found the interference was accidental and had not improved DAYDREAMER’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, DAYDREAMER, ridden by Seb Sanders and trained by William Haggas, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer’s representative, who stated that the gelding appreciated the All Weather surface. Having heard her evidence they forwarded her explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of DAYDREAMER could be reviewed.
19/06/2014
Leicester, 19 June 2014
8.40, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the reason why Harry Bentley, the rider of NANCY, unplaced, had appeared to ease his horse prematurely. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found him in breach of Rule (B)59.4 and guilty of failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.

Disciplinary Panel Enquiries
ROBERT JASON WARD
1. The Disciplinary Panel of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) on 19 June 2014 held an enquiry to consider whether or not Jason Ward, a Licensed Trainer, had committed a breach of Rules (C)22.1 and (C)27 of the Rules of Racing in that he had failed to conduct his business of training racehorses with reasonable care and skill; and/or with due regard for the interests of owners and horses under his care and control; and/or for failing to take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety and welfare of all the horses under his care or control (whether or not they were in training).
Background 2. CLOUDS OF GLORY, EASTWARD HO, GLADSOME, KUWAIT STAR, MORNA’S GLORY and ROMANTICIZE were owned by Miss Vivian Pratt and trained by Ward. On 26 August 2013 Miss Pratt asked Ward for the six horses to be taken out of training. Following the settlement of the training fees on 18 October 2013, the horses were removed by Miss Pratt from Ward’s training premises on 23 October 2013 and taken to the licensed premises of Michael Herrington.
3. On 24 October 2013, following complaints to the BHA from Herrington about the condition of the six horses, an inspection of Ward’s licensed premises was carried out by a BHA Veterinary Officer and a BHA Stable Inspector. There were no concerns over the condition of the horses on Ward’s yard. On the following day they attended Herrington’s training premises and examined the six horses. The six horses were also examined, at the request of Herrington, by Stewart Mechie, a Veterinary Surgeon employed by veterinary practice Stirk and Associates.
4. The six horses were given body condition “scores”. These scores were based on the Carroll and Huntingdon Method which is reproduced in the Equine Industry Welfare Guidelines for Horses, Ponies and Donkeys (Third Edition) (the “Guidelines”) published by the National Equine Welfare Council. Paragraphs 128 to 133 of the Guidelines govern the weight and body condition scoring of horses. The relevant Codes are:
(i) Paragraph 128 of the Guidelines states that: “Body condition scoring (BCS) is a method of evaluating body fat in relationship to body musculature and is an important tool for assessing whether a horse is overweight, the right weight or underweight”.
(ii) Paragraph 129 of the Guidelines states that: “A horse’s body condition should ideally be maintained at body condition score 3, varying no more than between 2.5 and 3.5 on a scale of 0 (Very Poor) to 5 (Very Fat). If a horse’s condition score declines to 2 or below; or increases to 4 or above then action should be taken to correct this”. (iii) Paragraph 132 of the Guidelines states that: “If a horse’s BCS falls below 2 it should not be worked, and veterinary advice should be sought as soon as possible. As with all horses, the person responsible should also ensure the horse has access to, and is consuming, an appropriate diet and if necessary provided with a warm shelter”.
5. The results from both the BHA Veterinary Officer and Mr Mechie’s independent report were very similar and confirmed that EASTWOOD HO, KUWAIT STAR and ROMANTICIZE fell below the threshold body score 2. Both reports scored the other three horses, CLOUDS OF GLORY, MORNA’S GLORY and GLADSOME, between 2 and 3.
6. Ward and his brother, assistant trainer Timothy Ward, were interviewed by BHA Investigating Officers on 21 November 2013. Ward had stated during interview that he and his brother were responsible for the feeding of the horses. Ward had admitted that he had failed to carry out this duty in relation to EASTWOOD HO, KUWAIT STAR and ROMANTICIZE. When it was put to him that it appeared that these horses had not been given enough food, he had responded that “obviously we have not been feeding them enough”. Timothy Ward had agreed that the maintenance diet the horses were being fed was “clearly not enough”. During the interview Ward admitted that the three horses looked poor when they left his yard. Timothy Ward had also stated that the horses should have been checked more regularly and their rugs removed. In this respect both had failed to follow paragraph 1.23 of the Code which states that “rugs should be regularly removed so the horse’s body condition and general health can be checked. Ideally this should be done daily”.
7. The horses that were in full training and not under the ownership of Miss Pratt had been stabled in the approved part of Ward’s yard and had looked well on the day of the inspection. The six horses owned by Miss Pratt had been kept in the unapproved part of Ward’s yard after being taken out of training, and EASTWOOD HO, KUWAIT STAR and ROMANTICIZE had suffered as a result of not being monitored regularly.
Submissions 8. The Panel heard submissions from Ward and his legal representative. The Panel noted that Ward felt deeply ashamed and embarrassed at what had transpired and that he was extremely sorry.
Penalty 9. The Panel accepted an admission from Ward that he was in breach of Rules (C)22.1 and 27 and imposed a fine of £2,000 upon him.

Lightning aiming to strike
Olly Stevens is confident dual Classic runner-up Lightning Thunder remains at the top of her game ahead of her bid for a deserved top-level victory in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday.
The Dutch Art filly ran a fantastic race when narrowly denied by Miss France in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in early May and proved that effort was no fluke when runner-up in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh three and a half weeks ago.
Stevens only began training at the start of last season, but enjoyed a Royal Ascot winner in his debut year with Windsor Castle Stakes scorer Extortionist and now wants to add a first Group One winner to his CV.
He said: "She's in really good form and has done well since Ireland. She doesn't look like a filly who has run in two Classics and seems fresh and well. The Coronation has always been her aim - she had a complication during the winter and was not supposed to even make the Guineas.
"Fast ground and not hitting the front too soon are her ideal conditions and I think the round course at Ascot should suit her perfectly. I guess the worry is she could be exposed to a less-exposed filly who perhaps missed the Classics, went for something smaller and is now stepping up in class.
"Having said that, she's run two fantastic races and I think she deserves to win one. We are trying to keep our feet on the ground as there are a lot of good fillies in the race, including some like Kiyoshi who have fresh legs, and it looks like a very open race. But obviously I am fairly besotted by my filly.
"It goes without saying that it would be very important to my wife, Hetta, and I to win a Group One. But more than that it would mean a huge amount to justify the faith that Sheikh Fahad Al Thani and Mohammed Al Kubasi (owner) have put in us."
One of the fillies with 'fresh legs', by accident rather than design, is the John Oxx-trained My Titania. The daughter of Sea The Stars rounded off her juvenile year with a Group Three triumph at the Curragh, but missed the Guineas at Newmarket after a late setback and skipped the Curragh Classic on account of the testing conditions.
As a result, she makes her seasonal reappearance in Berkshire and jockey Declan McDonogh admits only time will tell whether she is up to this level.
He said: "She's in good shape, the boss is happy with her and she's working well, so we're looking forward to it. She has her ground, which is a big plus, and we'll find out where we stand. It's a step up in class for her. She's won a Group Three and now we're hoping she can match up against the best, but you never really know until you try. It's a big step forward. Hopefully she's up to it."
My Titania is joined on the trip from Ireland by Aidan O'Brien's Tapestry, who finished tailed off when favourite for the 1000 Guineas and aims to bounce back.
Her big-race-jockey Joseph O'Brien told At The Races: "We hope you can put a line through Newmarket. We had a couple of different reasons as to what happened. We haven't done much with her, we've freshened her up and she seems to be working nicely. She's done a couple of half-speeds and went really well, she seems to be in good form.
"I thought she handled the track well at Newmarket and going down to the three (furlong marker) I was going quite nicely but she just flattened out quite quickly. She's back in great form, she's fresh, has put on plenty of weight and we're hoping she can come back to her two-year-old form. If she did, she'd have to be there or thereabouts."
Like Tapestry, Clive Brittain's Rizeena has failed to live up to expectations on the Rowley Mile last month after an excellent juvenile campaign. She was due to head to the Curragh, but was ruled out after she was found to have a trickle of blood coming from her nose following exercise late in her preparation.
Brittain said: "She's all set to go and she's in very good form, so we are looking for her to bounce back to her best. She couldn't be in better health and her work has been good. She was working well before the Guineas and it surprised us how she ran there.
"She's won twice on fast ground at Ascot on the straight track and has won going right-handed at the Curragh, so we're looking forward to it."
======================================= Treve set for thorough check-up
Superstar filly Treve will undergo a thorough examination after returning to France on Friday following her disappointing display in the Prince of Wales's Stakes.
Last year's stunning Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine lost her unbeaten record at the hands of multiple Group One-winning compatriot Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix Ganay at Longchamp at the end of April, but was fully expected to return to her brilliant best at Royal Ascot.
However, the Criquette Head-Maarek-trained four-year-old did not move well to post in the hands of Frankie Dettori and looked ill at ease during the race itself before staying on to finish third behind The Fugue.
Harry Herbert, racing advisor for owners Al Shaqab Racing, has speculated Treve may have pulled a muscle before taking to the famous Ascot turf.
He said: "She's on her way home and the Al Shaqab vet, Duncan Moir, is flying over to Chantilly to look at her. She'll be fully checked over and we'll see if anything comes to light, but obviously there was something amiss.
"She got a bit het up in the pre-parade ring and got up on her hind legs a couple of times and got a bit upset. Whether she tweaked a muscle doing that, I don't know.
"Take absolutely nothing away from the winner, who is also a brilliant filly and won like a proper star.
"It's just a great shame, for whatever reason, we didn't see the real Treve turn up. Unfortunately racing isn't that straightforward."
Herbert remains hopeful Treve will be back on song in time to defend her Arc crown in October, saying: " As Criquette said yesterday, we've lost the battle but not the war. Providing nothing serious comes to light, she'll be prepared for the Arc now and all roads lead to Longchamp in October.
"She could run before then in Prix Vermeille. I think that's probably the likely scenario, but we'll see what happens."
======================================== Elite triumph for Fallon
Kieren Fallon steered Godolphin runner Elite Army to victory in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Saeed bin Suroor's Authorized colt was sent off the 4-1 joint-favourite following a taking victory at Sandown last month and was nicely positioned from the start by the six-times champion jockey, travelling sweetly on the heels of the leaders.
Windshear was heavily backed into a share of favouritism having chased home Cannock Chase on his latest appearance, a horse who won the Tercentenary Stakes earlier in the afternoon, and he was the first of the pair to commit for home , but Fallon drove Elite Army into top gear in the final furlong and he swept by close home to score by a decisive three-quarters of a length.
Captain Morley and Venezia finished third and fourth respectively.
Fallon said: "It feels better than ever (winning at Royal Ascot). It was a tough trip out there, it just didn't open up for us. He's very good.
"I got stopped coming up the hill, we had to accelerate from there, it shows how good he is.
"This is his trip, he travels very well and he'll keep improving. Saeed has done a great job because he's a big baby.
"I knew the horse would get me out of trouble. He's a horse that's going places, we've always liked him. H e could be a really serious horse one day, he goes on any ground and is getting better and better."
Bin Suroor said: "He won last time at Sandown in softer ground. He was a little bit keen early there but Kieren said a mile and half suits him.
"He finished his race well and now we are looking at Group races for him. Before the race I said he is always improving. He was nice and happy in the race.
"The media asked me what my best chance of a winner was this week and I said this one so I'm happy. It's very hard to have winners here."
Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock advisor John Ferguson said: "Kieren got the gap and came away and won well.
"Sheikh Mohammed and the team are here and it's great to have winners like this. Saeed has always liked him, he's been progressive and that's what you need for these handicaps.
"Kieren works very closely with Saeed, they have a great relationship and trust each other."
Looking to future plans, Bin Suroor said: "We will take him to Newmarket for the Bahrain Trophy, a Group Three, and he has plenty of options.
"The St Leger could be a race for him in the future if he does well there.
"He works well, he is fitter now and every time he runs he has improved." ========================================== Bombay too hot in Britannia
Andrew Balding's Born In Bombay edged ahead to clinch a typically wide-open renewal of the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot.
With 30 runners assembled for the fiercely competitive handicap over the straight mile, the huge field split into two groups, with 14-1 shot Born In Bombay always positioned close to the pace in towards the stands rail in the hands of David Probert.
The three-year-old struck the front two furlongs out and found enough for pressure late in the day to hold the fast-finishing Bow Creek at bay by half a length.
The stands side proved the place to be, with Hors De Combat and favourite Bilimbi also racing in that pack and they finished third and fourth respectively.
It was a first winner at the Royal meeting for the jubilant Probert.
He said: "It's unbelievable, what dreams are made of. From such a young age I dreamed of riding here, never mind winning.
"I was at Andrew's when William (Buick) won the Wokingham on Dark Missile. Over the years I've been lucky enough to ride some really nice horses at Royal Ascot.
"He has improved quickly, he was a bit keen the last day at Newmarket. We were drawn stands side so my main aim was to get him settled.
"He jumped so well and was a bit keen but I was just trying to hold on in the hope he'd finish off."
Balding said: "He'd always worked well prior to the last month. If you'd asked me two months ago if he'd be winning this off 87 I'd have said he'd have a hell of a chance but then he probably just started going through the motions at home.
"We said you need a Group horse to win a handicap here and he just might be.
"I'm so pleased for George (Strawbridge, owner), too, he's had horses with us a long time."
============================================ Alga blitzes to Norfolk success
Baitha Alga gave Frankie Dettori his second winner of the week with a brilliant display in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Richard Hannon's juvenile brought arguably the strongest form on offer into the race, having won the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom on Derby day, but was an 8-1 shot taking on much-vaunted The Great War and another unbeaten colt in Mukhmal.
Mukhmal was sharply away in the five-furlong contest and blazed a trail for a long way, but weakened out of contention tamely.
Odds-on favourite The Great War moved ominously into it, only for his effort to prove short-lived as he passed the post a well-beaten fifth.
Baitha Alga, on the other hand, showed smart acceleration to settle matters and passed the post a length and a half clear under a jubilant Dettori, who was making it 49 career winners at the Royal extravaganza.
Mind Of Madness ran an excellent race to fill the runner-up spot, just two days after finishing down the field in the Windsor Castle Stakes.
Harry Herbert, racing manager for Sheikh Joaan Al Thani's Al Shaqab Racing operation, said: "This is the theatre of dreams.
"He travelled so well - to win a Woodcote and to come back so quickly and win a Norfolk - Frankie won as he pleased.
"He's very exciting. It's another big day."
Dettori said: "He ran a super race at Epsom, the team were very pleased and I'm so pleased he got the job done.
"Looking before the race it looked like there would be a lot of speed and I made a move two out. Sometimes I can use my brain, although not often!
"He's hard as nails and uncomplicated, all the things you want in a two-year-old. Right now he's one of the best two-year-olds.
"We had a hiccup yesterday (with Treve) but you've got to look forward."
Hannon said: "He was having his third run in three weeks, which was tough, but this horse can handle it.
"Frankie was going ever so well in behind and really never looked like getting beaten.
"He's a very smart two-year-old and we'll have a look at the Prix Morny after that, he's really nice."
Herbert added: "He's one of the horses where we donate the winnings to Jack Berry House, so I hope Jack is watching."
David Brown said of the runner-up: "Ryan (Moore) said he's a really nice horse but they went fast early on and just for a few strides he found it a bit hard. Once he got going he was fine.
"I think we can look at races like the Richmond and the July Stakes.
"The only thing I can put my finger on as to what happened on Tuesday was that I brought him the night before and he got a bit buzzed up. In trying to give him an easy day we probably made it hard for him.
"Yesterday morning I wouldn't have run him but this morning he was like he is at home. We maybe should have come straight for this. There's some big races in him, I'm sure of that."
Al Shaqab and Dettori won the Coventry Stakes earlier in the week on another exciting two-year-old in The Wow Signal, trained by John Quinn.
Hannon joked: "You'd better get me and John Quinn some boxing gloves. They are two nice horses and that's the main thing." =============================================== Chase too good in Tercentenary
Cannock Chase continued his ascent through the ranks to delight favourite-backers in the Tercentenary Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Runner-up on his only juvenile appearance at Kempton, Sir Michael Stoute's colt had looked the part when successful at Windsor and Newbury earlier this season and was a 7-4 favourite to complete the hat-trick despite taking a marked step up in class.
Ryan Moore rode a confident race and was happy to give the majority of his rivals start until the turn for home, but a ngled wide to challenge early in the straight, Cannock Chase was coaxed towards the front end two furlongs down and dug deep to quicken to the lead.
He was a length and a half to the good as he passed the post, with Mutakayyef filling the runner-up spot narrowly ahead of Postponed.
A stewards' inquiry was called, as Moore's mount appeared to impede Barley Mow, who finished out of the places having been in second at the time, but it was quickly announced the result would stand.
Moore said: "He's done it nicely, he travelled smoothly and when I got to the front for some reason he lugged right, it's just greenness because he's a genuine horse.
"He's a nice horse, he's done nothing wrong, he's done what we wanted to do today. He's at the right level for now."
Stoute said: "I was a little bit concerned about the ground because he won't want it too quick.
"We've always liked this horse and that was a good performance.
"We'll just see how he comes out of this, we'll wait and see before we make a plan."
Stoute added: "He was immature last year and we only got one run into him but he's continued to improve, he's got a turn of foot and he's got class.
"We put him in the King Edward as well, he'll get a mile and a half but this was always first choice. I'll just keep him off fast summer ground I think, I don't want to do that at this stage.
"I'm glad they juiced it up a little bit (watered) last night.
"I think he'll be a Group One horse in time."
Richard Hills, assistant racing manager to owner of the second, Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, said: "He's a long horse to organise and he was a bit slowly away. Paul (Hanagan) just had to ask him so he was a bit keen for three-quarters of a furlong, but apart from that we are really pleased.
"Whatever he does this year he'll be even better next year. He's a stayer, he'll definitely get a mile and a half but he just needs to fill out first. Make no mistake, this is a good horse."
Luca Cumani said of the third: "He ran well, handled the track and handled the ground.
"He was a little unlucky in the final furlong, where he lost momentum, but it was a good run. It's difficult to know what to do now as the three-year-old races are running out."
=========================================== X-rays for Inchila
Inchila was taken for assessment after being pulled up in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The Investec Oaks fourth, trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam, was set to undergo X-rays.
Barry Reilly, manager of owners-breeders Woodcote Stud Ltd, said: "It looks like a pelvic injury, but hopefully it's not too bad.
"She's either going to be X-rayed at Ascot or they are going to take to the hospital in Newmarket by horse ambulance.
"We think Vazira has bumped into the back of her and then when Jamie (Spencer) was just about to make his move, she totally lost her action.
"You never know with these things. They can cause internal bleeding and what have you, but we're two hours after the race now and we're hopeful it's not that major.
"Maybe she has suffered a small fracture or displaced her pelvis, but she was very calm after the race and having brought her into the world, she's very tough.
"She's not a faint-hearted filly and hopefully she'll be all right.
"There's plenty of juice in the ground."
====================================== Bracelet shines in Ribblesdale
Bracelet bounced back from her disappointing display in last month's Qipco 1000 Guineas to give Aidan and Joseph O'Brien victory in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Having made a winning reappearance at Leopardstown at the end of March, the daughter of Montjeu failed to fire in the Rowley Mile Classic and was a 10-1 shot stepped up to a mile and a half and fitted with a hood for the first time.
Buried in the middle of the pack while her stablemate Terrific played the role of pacemaker, Bracelet edged closer to the front end still moving sweetly rounding the home bend, and though she had to be pulled wide to challenge once straightened up, she got rolling from the two-furlong marker and saw out the trip well to hold off the late challenge of Lustrous by half a length.
Criteria was just a head away in second, with French-trained favourite Vazira making up a lot of ground from the back of the field to take fourth.
The O'Brien team were getting on the scoresheet for the first time this week.
Joseph O'Brien said: "She travelled well, she did everything right through the race.
"We went a nice even pace, but I probably got there a bit soon, so I had to keep going with her.
"She's tough, she stays and she tries. I could hear the others coming but I was always holding them."
Aidan O'Brien said: "They've been running very ordinary. They all looked very healthy, so it's a big relief. Some we thought would have done better, but we just have to be patient.
"Ryan said when he rode her in the Guineas to step her up to a mile and a half and we popped a hood on her at home and that seemed to help her.
"I suppose well have to look at the Irish Oaks now."
Richard Hannon said of the runner-up: "She ran a super race. We supplemented her for the Irish Oaks and she'll run a big race there."
John Gosden said of Criteria: "She ran a blinder. They played about with the pace a bit but she's now Listed- and Group-placed.
"She'll need freshening up but we'd then look for a Listed race somewhere and hopefully work towards the Park Hill. My other filly (Bright Approach) found the ground too quick and the trip too far."
Christophe Soumillon said the favourite Vazira, who finished fourth, needs to do some work on leaving the stalls.
He said: "She is a big filly and does a few bad things in the gate. I was hoping we could go in last but we couldn't.
"With a filly like her with a lot of stamina to be last in a race like this, even with a strong pace, it is nearly impossible to make up ground.
"I think the way she ran today is good for the future because we know she is going to stay."
========================================= Estimate battles bravely
The Queen's racing advisor John Warren saluted a great team effort after Estimate finished a narrow second in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.
The Queen's mare won the Group One contest 12 months ago, but an interrupted preparation meant she was making her seasonal reappearance this time.
Beaten just a neck by Leading Light, she put in arguably her best performance yet considering that was her first run since October.
Warren said: "It was tremendous, she was so brave and the Queen got such pleasure from it. Ryan said it was a career-best. Having no prep, everything was against her so to run so well was tremendous."
He added: "Last year we were worried about very soft ground. Thankfully we didn't have that problem this year. If she comes out of this race well and the Queen wants to run her then she will.
"That was a hard race. The horses were out of their comfort zone.
"There is a cliche about teamwork, but this was a team effort to get her here. To nearly do it without a prep was a fantastic effort.
"The strange thing was last year no one clapped in the Royal Box. They all just said well done to the Queen. Everyone clapped this year afterwards. That says it all.
"There was a real buzz because she'd done so well. Prince Philip said 'my goodness that was a good race'. It was great. A real thrill all round."
Missunited was a close third and her trainer Michael Winters said: "She's such a game mare and she never ceases to amaze me. Jim gave her a great ride.
"We'll keep her going now. I've got Galway on my mind, but I'll talk to the owners first."
Owner Dan Hutch said: "Before the race we wondered what we were doing here, but that finish brought the crowd to their feet."
Michael Owen's Brown Panther travelled as well as anything into the straight and was the first to challenge Missunited but failed to see out the trip, finishing fourth.
Owen said: "He has been beaten by better horses but has still made us immensely proud.
"He always tries his best and has the heart of a lion. This was his big target for the first half of the season.
"The Melbourne Cup is an option, so is Goodwood and the Irish St Leger. There's also the race here on Champions Day to think about it."
================================================ Light shines brightest for Gold
Hot favourite Leading Light narrowly denied the Queen's defending champion Estimate in a pulsating climax to the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.
Last year's Queen's Vase and St Leger hero Leading Light was all the rage for the two-and-a-half-mile Group One, having made a winning return to action in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan last month.
The four-year-old was under the pump from the home turn in the hands of Joseph O'Brien, son of trainer Aidan, but stuck to his guns admirably to fend off Estimate by a neck, with the front-running Missunited a gallant third.
Joseph O'Brien said: "When you win it is always a good ride, there's no such thing as a bad winning ride. I kept a straight line, Ryan (Moore, on Estimate) was looking for a bit of room but I was entitled to keep a straight line.
"He had a little look when he got to the front and then went a bit to his left, he's a big, lazy horse but I think he's better at a mile and six.
"I was rowing away on him but I had loads left, I was trying to hold off asking for everything for as long as I could. Ryan gave me a bit of help by coming up my inside as he pushed me along a bit - this fellow is as tough as nails."
Aidan O'Brien, winning the race for the sixth time, said: "He's idle, but he was in a lovely position and settled well.
"He was very lazy when he got there. Joseph was trying to keep him with company.
"We were worried about two and half miles as he's out of a Queen Mary winner. He's a horse we thought could go back to a King George maybe, but he was up there for the last half a mile and after two miles you never know what is going to happen.
I'm so lucky to have the horses and work with the people that I do, I'm in a very lucky position and the lads have unbelievable horses with unbelievable pedigrees and it (Ballydoyle) is an unbelievable place to train from."
At the end of the day, it emerged that O'Brien had been given a seven-day ban for using his whip above the permitted level and he will miss July 3-9, as well as picking up two more days for the same offence in the last race (July 10-11). July 5 is the date of the Coral-Eclipse, in which Derby winner Australia is a possible starter should he miss the Irish Derby. He was also fined £3,000.
Crowley got four days for the same reason (July 3-7).

Slade Power will aim to give Eddie Lynam a famous sprinting double in Saturday's Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. Slade Power aims for a big double for connections at Royal Ascot With stable stalwart Sole Power winning the King's Stand on Tuesday for the same owners, the Power Family, it would certainly be a noteworthy achievement if his stable companion could win the six-furlong Group One on the closing day of the meeting. He will face 14 rivals, including several strong contenders from his homeland, led by Tom Hogan's globetrotter Gordon Lord Byron. Successful in Australia in March, his last run was over a mile at Sha Tin last month. He is reunited with William Buick. Aidan O'Brien runs two in Darwin and the improving three-year-old Due Diligence. There is also a challenger from France in the shape of Eric Libaud's American Devil. Aljamaaheer, who was among the leading performers over a mile last term, has reverted to sprinting this year and represents Roger Varian. Medicean Man, Jack Dexter and Es Que Love, who all ran in the King's Stand on Tuesday, make their second appearance of the week. Astaire aims to make up for Kevin Ryan's disappointment with Hot Streak in the King's Stand while Richard Hannon runs Montiridge. Godolphin's Tawhid, Dean Ivory's Tropics, Hawkeyethenoo and Henry Candy's Music Master complete the field.

Richard Hannon had Derby dreams for Bunker through the winter and the trainer expects his charge to strip a good deal fitter tor his run at York. Bunker makes his way up the gallops at Richard Hannon's stables "Our Derby dream ended when Bunker ran what initially looked a disappointing race in the Dante, but the subsequent performances of The Grey Gatsby and Arod have given the York form a real boost, so perhaps it was not such a bad first run," Hannon told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. "He had been off a long time and would have needed it, and the longer distance should also play to his strengths." Italian raider Dylan Mouth puts his unbeaten record on the line and he already has a Classic in the bag having won the Italian Derby for trainer Stefano Botti, brother of Newmarket-based Marco Botti. Making his task even harder is the 3lb penalty he must shoulder for his recent win at Capannelle. "Dylan Mouth is a big, strong colt who stays well," said Botti. "He won the Italian Derby very nicely, he has won each of his races in Italy and the faster ground should be fine for him. "He has to carry a Group Two penalty, but we are happy with him and looking forward to seeing how he performs." The key Derby trial in England is the Dante Stakes at York and while at the time many form students were underwhelmed when The Grey Gatsby ran out a convincing winner, the Kevin Ryan-trained colt subsequently claimed the French Derby while runner-up Arod finished fourth at Epsom. Fourth in the Dante was James Given's Odeon, a brother to St Leger runner-up Kite Wood. "The Dante has obviously worked out very well and I hope to find out that he's improved from it," said Given. "He should certainly improve for the step up in trip. We knew 10 furlongs in that company would probably be too sharp for him so Graham (Lee) set some hard fractions and the winning time was a good deal quicker than the Musidora, yet he still took some stopping after the line. "On that basis he will clearly stay and there hasn't been one day since the Dante that I would have done anything different with him. "He wasn't far behind a French Derby winner and a Derby fourth, he's drawn nicely and I look forward to seeing what he can do. "I know this is a big race in its own right but all year all roads have been leading towards the St Leger for him, that is the race I think will suit him best. "Just a drop of rain would make me a bit more comfortable." Andrew Balding runs the highly-regarded Scotland, who was possibly bogged down in the soft ground when third in the Chester Vase. "A mile and a half will suit him down to the ground and we've always thought a lot of him," said Balding. "He's in great shape and this has been his target." Sir Michael Stoute's Lingfield Derby Trial winner Snow Sky was forced to miss Epsom with a late setback and was immediately rerouted to this while Aidan O'Brien runs Adelaide, narrowly beaten in a French Group Two on just his second start and an easy winner of the Gallinule Stakes. John Gosden runs Eagle Top and Derby sixth Western Hymn, with William Buick surprisingly opting for Eagle Top. William Haggas is represented by Seagull Star with Godolphin's Miner's Lamp running for Charlie Appleby.

Superstar filly Treve will undergo a thorough examination after returning to France on Friday following her disappointing display in the Prince of Wales's Stakes. Treve is due to undergo tests after defeat at Royal Ascot Last year's stunning Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine lost her unbeaten record at the hands of multiple Group One-winning compatriot Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix Ganay at Longchamp at the end of April, but was fully expected to return to her brilliant best at Royal Ascot. However, the Criquette Head-Maarek-trained four-year-old did not move well to post in the hands of Frankie Dettori and looked ill at ease during the race itself before staying on to finish third behind the hugely-impressive The Fugue. Harry Herbert, racing advisor for owners Al Shaqab Racing, has speculated Treve may have pulled a muscle before taking to the famous Ascot turf. Herbert said: "She's on her way home and the Al Shaqab vet, Duncan Moir, is flying over to Chantilly to look at her tomorrow. "She'll be fully checked over and we'll see if anything comes to light, but obviously there was something amiss. Unfortunately racing isn't that straight forward." Herbert remains hopeful Treve will be back on song in time to defend her Arc crown in October. "As Criquette said yesterday, we've lost the battle but not the war," he said. "Providing nothing serious comes to light, she'll be prepared for the Arc now and all roads lead to Longchamp in October. "She could run before then in Prix Vermeille. I think that's probably the likely scenario, but we'll see what happens

17:35 Friday 20th June Royal Ascot Day 4 Preview
The Albany has so many 'could be anything' fillies in it and I'm struggling to lower my shortlist from 7. Peace And War could go very well and, with plenty of pace in the middle of the track, her draw in 5 looks ok. I think they'll come up the middle. Malabar should outrun her price but still has plenty to find and I struggle to see her winning. Effusive was visually very impressive at Carlisle and I really like her but I do worry about stall 1 a little as she ran very green on debut. Osiala is a decent price for connections flying with 2 year olds but the form of her debut hasn't really worked out. Patience Alexander could be the class filly but her price is short and I get the impression that she's not as good as he owner's other filly who won the Queen Mary. And so we are down to 2. The first is a filly that beat the Queen Mary winner in Ireland when 2nd behind a classy sort entered in the Moyglare. I think Sexy Legs may prove better than the winner though (the Irish race not the Queen Mary) and is worth a bet at 10/1. She is ideally drawn, bang in amongst the pace. The other is the Godolphin filly Bitter Lake who really caught the eye when beating more experienced rivals at Newmarket. She will be better for better ground and I thought she may be shorter than 12/1. Royal Ascot 14.30 - Sexy Legs 1pt e/w Royal Ascot 14.30 - Bitter Lake 1pt e/w
Baltic Night, Fattsota, Energizer and Sennockian Star should ensure a proper test between them in the Wolferton and I want to side with something that gets a mile and a half. Bold Sniper does just that and I'm very confident he'll go close this afternoon at 5/2 for a team in top form. He loves it here and ran a solid race on reappearance at Newmarket over a inadequate trip. He should confirm form with the likeable Cafe Society as long as he doesn't get trapped on the rail from stall 1. A good gallop will help with that. Wigmore Hall should be involved but the yard form is a worry and it's worth having a saver on First Mohican who is dropping back in trip but too big a price. He reminds me a little of last year's winner Forgotten Voice in that he gets further and will appreciate a solid gallop. The ground is on the quick side for him but if he is in the sort of form that saw him 3rd to Mount Athos a Newbury, the first time Richard Hughes had ridden him, he could spring a surprise in first time blinkers at 18/1. Royal Ascot 15.05 - Bold Sniper 2pt win Royal Ascot 15.05 - First Mohican 1pt e/w
I'm tempted by Western Hymn who ran a cracker at Epsom given he hated the track and was bumped around. He's not really big enough though and it's a worry Buick prefers Eagle Top. Bunker is better than he showed at York and is a tempting price but he's not guaranteed to stay and Snow Sky, very likeable, may just need a bit of cut. Adelaide could win well if getting the trip but that's also a question mark on breeding, though he looked as though he would last time. He's the pick on form and should be better for better ground but favourites often get stung by something completely unexposed in this and I'll leave it alone.
Tapestry is tempting at a double figure price given how the money came for her pre Guineas. However, her dam never made it as a 3 year old and I'd want to have a look at her in the paddock before parting with any money. I have a feeling she could shake this up. However, she is closely matched on 2 year old form with Rizeena and that probably isn't good enough to win this. Rosalind is fascinating but not really a bet given what we don't know about her. My Titania too is interesting but I can't back a filly that has missed 2 intended races this season at 9/2. We simply don't know how good she is and she will have to be very good to beat Lightening Thunder who should be a clear favourite. She is the form filly and I think the fact that she ran Miss France so close in the guineas gives her every right to go and win this well. She did easily best of those from the back at Newmarket, and Miss France is a very classy filly who got first run on her. She didn't like the ground at the Curragh but still ran well and, though she is co top rated here on 111 with Tapestry, Rizeena and Kiyoshi, she is better than them on what we have seen. We've had 5 winning favourites in 10 years and 4/1 is not short enough to swerve in this potentially trappy affair. I just hope she has a half decent pace to run at and can give everything after a couple of tough races. There is, however, very little pace on and it's worth having a saver on Lesstalk In Paris who may be just below Group 1 quality but who is definitely overpriced given how the race is likely to pan out at 14/1. There's also a chance the French fillies are a little above ours. The big plus is Christophe Soumillion on top who is something of a sectional genius and dangerous if allowed a lead as he showed on this filly in the Prix De La Grotte. She looks a good ground filly and I can excuse her run in the French Guineas on soft ground when keen and not allowed her own way. Royal Ascot 16.25 - Lightening Thunder 2pt win Royal Ascot 16.25 - Lesstalk In Paris 1pt e/w
Again not one to go crazy about but it's a choice of 3 for the Queen's Vase. Of those near the top I'm not sure Century is up to this as, though his trainer has a great record in the race, his form falls short of Hartnell and the Gosden horse. Hartnell's trainer also has a great record in the race but he doesn't look an out and out stayer to me, though Johnston will find an extra half mile from somewhere! He may also want softer ground. That is definitely the case for very likeable colt Min Alemarat who is very nearly the selection. He really caught the eye as a stayer with a destructive maiden win last time out but his action and breeding says cut is needed. His trainer is certainly worried about the ground and they will not go hard on this 'big baby' as they see him. Marzocco has been doing his best work late on 2 recent starts but this trip should help. He is not guaranteed to stay on breeding but has looked outpaced in moderate tests at 10 and 11 furlongs and his trainer is master of the staying division. The ground should be a plus on breeding and 5/2 is just about backable. Favourites have a super record in the race and he just strikes me as the best potential stayer of those at the top of the market. Royal Ascot 17.00 - Marzocco 2pt win
The Britannia was weighted in favour of those drawn high yesterday as that was where the pace was. It is a little different for the Buckingham Palace stakes this afternoon with pace drawn as follows: 2, 12, 14, 24, 25 and possibly 5, 7, 30. What 12 and 14 decide to do could make all the difference. Last year there was an even split at about 15, half went stand half went far side. Yesterday, we saw those drawn higher than the gap between 10 and 11 coming stand side as there has generally been a perceived advantage up high and we even saw the entire field heading over on Wednesday. I hope we have an even split today but it seems unlikely and safety in numbers could still mean high numbers prevail. As it happens, my main fancies happen to be up high, though Excellent Guest would be of interest if not in 11. Again most bookies are paying 5 places (Power pay 6) so we can back 2 or 3. First up is Horsted Keynes who has probably the best jockey around over this straight 7 furlongs, and he's due a winner. He is short though for such an open race so only go in if you've had a good day! Best bet of the race is Georgian Bay who is nicely drawn and who romped to a first time visor win on the all weather in April. He was drawn on the wrong side in the Victoria Cup but is no 33/1 shot on the form of his Kempton win. Last up is good old Bronze Angel at 22/1 who hails from a yard scratching for form but he is back to lower than his last win and hinted at a return to form last time. He was placed in the Britannia 2 years ago too and this ground should be more to his liking. Royal Ascot 17.35 - Georgian Bay 1pt e/w Royal Ascot 17.35 - Bronze Angel 0.5pt e/w
