Trainer John Quinn is weighing up whether to let Aurore D'Estruval head for the Cheltenham Festival following her narrow reverse at Haydock last weekend. ![http://e1.365dm.com/13/12/768x576/john-quinn-full_3056044.jpg?20131222160423](http://e1.365dm.com/13/12/768x576/john-quinn-full_3056044.jpg?20131222160423) John Quinn: Not certain about Cheltenham plans The French recruit made a big impression on her victorious British debut at Wetherby and then went down to Abracadabra Sivola by only half a length in the Victor Ludorum Hurdle on Merseyside. She could run in either the Triumph Hurdle or the Fred Winter at Cheltenham, but Quinn is also considering targets in Ireland and France. The North Yorkshire handler said: "She may have got beaten, but she's a good mare. "She just couldn't pick up on the ground at Haydock. She's been given a mark of 137 and we'll have to see if that's fair. "The worry would be she's only had three runs in her life and I'm not sure if she'd be streetwise enough for Cheltenham. "There'll be plenty of races for her in Punchestown and over in France, where there's a hell of a lot of prize-money. "She's eligible for some nice races." Quinn has a strong hand in the juvenile division this term, with Pearl Castle and Rutherglen pencilled in for the Festival. Pearl Castle secured his second successive Doncaster victory on Wednesday, while Rutherglen is unbeaten in three starts over hurdles and also won on the all-weather at Kempton recently. "All three of mine are in the Fred Winter and Triumph at this stage," said Quinn. "Pearl Castle wouldn't go on soft and while Rutherglen is not as quick as Pearl Castle, he's very tough. "He had a run on the Flat the other day because I didn't want to run him on heavy but he's more versatile with regards the ground."

16:40 Friday 21st February Racing Tips - 21/02/2014
No prizes for tipping a 9/5 shot but I think Uxizandre should be a cut above these. He holds major festival novice chase entries and has to win today to be worthy of a claim for those. I saw him both win and lose at Newbury over hurdles but each time thought he'd make a classy chaser and, on song, it would be a surprise if he couldn't win this giving 10lb to the field. That puts him right with Bennys Mist, who is rated 10lb his inferior, but both of Bennys Mist's's recent wins have come on heavy ground and conditions today will mean no excuses for Uxizandre. Also, the champ is bang on song at the moment and if anyone's going to give a horse its proper running it's him. No Planning could provide the greatest test but he still has something to prove out of handicap company and the King string is worth keeping on side of at the moment. Uxizandre is yet to jump brilliantly but still 2 from 2 over fences - it's a bit like when a football team is playing badly but still winning 1-0 and they go on to win the league. Warwick 15.40 - Uxizandre 3pt win
Fredo is a bit of a shot to nothing in that he could be pulled up after halfway just as he could win this with something in hand and 14/1 is too big against this field. He is a course and distance performer that was 2nd 2 years ago in a much better race than this. He started the season in good nick before finishing miles back over course and distance in December. That run can be dismissed as something was clearly not right and 10/1 now compared to 4/1 that day, with only a run in a jumper's bumper in between, is worth snapping up. A few have something to prove and the selection isn't without his problems, having over reached and bled before, but if he gets round soundly he should be right in there off a mark of 118, especially given good yard form. Bally Sands would be the pick of the shorter prices but still has a bit to prove of late and 7/2 is short. Warwick 16.40 - Fredo 1pt e/w
The Kim Bailey yard has started 2014 in super form and, a little like Alan King, is worth keeping on the right side of in the coming months. A Shade Of Bay somewhat optimises this statistic having showed real promise last term but having to wait until the turn of this year before living up to potential. This extra trip should bring out further improvement and she goes in the ground. A mark of 115 looks workable on the face of her win last time and that of her 2 efforts last season. There's every chance something will be too good in this open contest but I really think she looks the value pick at 9/1. Miner Distraction is another handicap debutant who could be well treated but is more exposed at the trip. Flementime's form gives her every right to be favourite but I'd still rather be on the bigger price about the selection. Exeter 14.50 - A Shade Of Bay 1pt e/w =================================================

Sedgefield, 20 February 2014
The British Horseracing Authority have given permission for the final fence (the Johnny Ridley fence) to be omitted in all steeple chases due to false ground on the take off side.
3.00, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the deployment of the chequered flag approaching the last fence in the back straight on the final circuit. They interviewed the Clerk of the Course who stated that due to the loose horse cantering back towards the field she felt it prudent to instruct the flag to be waved to alert the jockeys. She added that having deployed the flag the loose horse then turned and headed away from the oncoming field. Having heard her evidence the Stewards accepted her explanation.
5.00, seventh race
The Stewards noted that SURGING SEAS (IRE), placed second, had interfered with SILVER VOGUE, placed third, who in turn interfered with the winner TOM LAMB, approximately two furlongs out, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved SURGING SEAS (IRE)’s placing.
20/02/2014
Ayr, 20 February 2014
The BHA gave permission for fence number 7 to be omitted in all steeple chases due to ground conditions.
4.20, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference after the final fence. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, THE FRIARY (IRE), ridden by Derek Fox, had interfered with MISTER PHILSON (IRE), placed second, ridden by G.N. Fox, and that the interference was accidental and had not improved THE FRIARY (IRE)’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by G.N. Fox, the rider of MISTER PHILSON (IRE), placed second, from approaching the second last fence. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Fox for 4 days as follows: Thursday 6 March, Friday 7 March, Saturday 8 March and Sunday 9 March 2014.
20/02/2014
Huntingdon, 20 February 2014
The BHA have given permission for the last fence in the home straight (Fence 5) and the first in the back straight (Fence 6) to be omitted in all chases due to the ground conditions. As a result, the water jump will be omitted for the first circuit only of the 2m4f chase.

8.00, sixth race
The Starter reported that PRIVATE JONES, trained by Miss Imogen Pickard, was unruly in the stalls and was withdrawn. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and she was informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.

Trainer Nicky Henderson expects the final decision over Sprinter Sacre's participation in the BetVictor Queen Mother Champion Chase to be made within the next 10 days. ![http://e0.365dm.com/14/02/768x576/Sprinter-Sacre-FULL_3080235.jpg?20140208133936](http://e0.365dm.com/14/02/768x576/Sprinter-Sacre-FULL_3080235.jpg?20140208133936) Sprinter Sacre: Still being monitored ahead of Cheltenham Henderson has endured a torrid time this season with the current champion, who lost his unbeaten record over fences when he pulled up at Kempton over Christmas with an irregular heartbeat. It has been a slow, gradual process trying to build him back up and while everything is on target so far, the Seven Barrows handler stressed Sprinter Sacre will not run at the Cheltenham Festival unless he was 100 per cent happy. Should that be the case, Henderson is convinced he remains the one to beat. "He either runs in the Champion Chase or we put him away for next season," Henderson told BetRacingNation TV. "He worked on Wednesday and I was pleased with him. He wears a heart monitor in all his work and he's wired up to Newmarket. I have the results back within an hour, it's all perfectly OK. "We've got work to do and I would think it will be another 10 days before we finally make the decision. "He could go to Kempton on Friday week or even Newbury (next) weekend as I wouldn't mind him jumping some fences on a racecourse. "Captain Conan is in good order and I think he will finish up running in the Champion Chase whether Sprinter is there or not, and Kid Cassidy will almost certainly run in it, too, so we might be three-handed. "Sprinter will only run if he is back to what we consider his very best. If he is, to be fair, unless I get this wrong, he is the one they all have to beat. "It will be difficult to beat him if he is back and if he's not back I won't run him."

Trainer Mouse Morris faces several late calls over the targets for his main Cheltenham Festival contenders. ![http://e1.365dm.com/13/04/768x576/First_2924591.jpg?20130404153608](http://e1.365dm.com/13/04/768x576/First_2924591.jpg?20130404153608) First Lieutenant: Cheltenham aim yet to be decided The going at the Cotswolds venue will decide the final destinations of Baily Green and stable stalwart First Lieutenant, although Rule The World is bang on target for the Ladbrokes World Hurdle. Baily Green gave Simonsig a fright in the Arkle last year and after recently having had a pipe-opener over hurdles, his options are the BetVictor Queen Mother Champion Chase and the Ryanair. "He's in good fettle but I don't know which way we'll go with him yet," said Morris. "He wants good ground really, like he showed in the Arkle last year. Even though it was soft it was better than what he'd been running on all year. "I think two miles is his optimum but l suppose it (the Champion Chase) is a different race if Sprinter Sacre runs. "The only time he's had his ground this season was at Gowran when he was beaten a length by Sizing Europe. "With First Lieutenant, he just can't jump as well out of soft ground, we saw that in the Hennessy. We won't be decided with him until very late. "Rule The World goes on any ground, though. The form of his last win has been boosted, Dunguib won last week and Willie's (Mullins) mare (Upsie) won the other day. "You've not just got Big Buck's to beat this year, though, it looks an open race, there might be Annie Power, too. It's a hell of a good race this year."

Trainer David Bridgwater is already counting down the days until The Giant Bolster has a third stab at the Cheltenham Gold Cup. ![http://e2.365dm.com/14/01/768x576/the-giant-bolster-full_3073443.jpg?20140127151815](http://e2.365dm.com/14/01/768x576/the-giant-bolster-full_3073443.jpg?20140127151815) The Giant Bolster: Bounced back to form at his favourite track The nine-year-old has finished second and fourth in the last two renewals of chasing's blue riband, but endured a disappointing start to the new season. However, he bounced back with an impressive victory in last month's Argento Chase to earn himself another crack at the big one. Bridgwater said: "He's absolutely fantastic and as for any trainer with a fancied horse going to Cheltenham, the next three weeks are the longest three weeks of the year." The Giant Bolster was fitted with a hood and a visor in the Argento Chase and will again be sporting the headgear next month. "We'll keep the headgear on. We don't want to be changing things at this stage, so fingers crossed," said the Gloucestershire trainer.

Lingfield Park, 21 February 2014
1.30, first race
2.30, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference just after the start. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that MISTER CARROT, placed second, ridden by Robert Havlin, had interfered with MADRINAS PRINCE (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Ryan While. The Stewards found Havlin in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift left. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Friday 7 March 2014.
The record of vaccinations in the passport of HAMMERED SILVER, trained by Mike Murphy, did not comply with the Rules of Racing. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Rule (E)18 and fined him £140.
3.30, fifth race
The record of vaccinations in the passport of CONSISTANT, trained by Brian Baugh, had been altered. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Rule (E)19.5 and fined him £140.
4.30, seventh race
The Stewards held an enquiry into two possible incidents of interference.
In the first incident just after the start, having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found that the winner, CLUB HOUSE (IRE), ridden by George Buckell had interfered with SOUTH CAPE, unplaced, ridden by Hector Crouch. The Stewards found Buckell in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift left. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Friday 7 March 2014.
In the second incident approaching five furlongs out, having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that CLUB HOUSE (IRE) further interfered with SOUTH CAPE, unplaced, ridden by Hector Crouch. The Stewards found Buckell in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift towards the rail. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Saturday 8 March 2014.
21/02/2014
Warwick, 21 February 2014
Fence 5 was omitted in all chases because of false ground on the landing side.
2.40, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, DORRY K (IRE), ridden by Jack Sherwood and trained by Jim Best, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer’s representative, who stated that the mare had made a bad mistake at Newbury on her first run for the yard and may have been better suited by Warwick. Having heard his evidence, they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of DORRY K (IRE) could be reviewed.
3.10, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Andrew Tinkler, the rider of the winner, NO DUFFER, on the run in. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip in the incorrect place. The Stewards suspended Tinkler for 2 days as follows: Friday 7 and Saturday 8 March 2014.
4.40, sixth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, LOUGHALDER (IRE), ridden by Charlie Poste and trained by Matt Sheppard, compared with the gelding’s previous run at Warwick on 8 December 2013, where it finished sixth of 10, beaten approximately 50 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that LOUGHALDER (IRE) had benefited from having had a wind operation since its last run. They ordered the gelding to be routine tested.
5.10, seventh race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the fall of Hadden Frost, the rider of WESTERN DIVA (IRE), on the final bend. Having viewed recordings of the incident, the Stewards found that the fall was caused by the mare stumbling. Being satisfied that no other horse or rider was involved, the Stewards took no further action.
21/02/2014
Wolverhampton, 21 February 2014
5.30, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of METHAALY (IRE), ridden by Lewis Stones and trained by Michael Mullineaux, which was held up in the rear before staying on in the home straight to finish fifth, beaten 5 lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer. The rider stated his instructions were to sit behind and wait until the two furlong pole before making his effort. The trainer confirmed the instructions and said that the gelding is usually ridden from behind and has won in the past using these tactics, but on this occasion did not seem to pick up as he would have expected. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations.
8.30, seventh race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference in the home straight. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that EXCELLENT PUCK (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by William Twiston-Davies, had interfered with HILL FORT, unplaced, ridden by Daryl Byrne, who in turn interfered with OCEAN APPLAUSE, unplaced, ridden by Adam Kirby. The Stewards found Twiston-Davies in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his horse to drift towards the rail without sufficient correction. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Friday 7 and Saturday 8 March 2014.

14:20 Saturday 22nd February Racing Tips - 22/02/2014
I'm a big fan of Balder Success but want to take him on at anywhere near odds-on. He will race prominently but Loose Chips should ensure this is something of a decent test and, given some cut in the ground, he will need to prove stamina over this extended 2 and a half miles. He did break the track record at Chepstow on good ground so the positives are there but this is a decent field against him and preference is for Emma Lavelle's Fox Appeal at 7/4. He wasn't disgraced trying to give 3lb to Valdez last time and that King runner has emerged as the genuine Arkle contender ahead of today's favourite. Fox Appeal did look to be crying out for a step up in trip last time too. Both yards are going well to be fair but at this trip off level weights I'd rather be on the horse that was a close 2nd to JLT favourite Wonderful Charm. Kempton 14.40 - Fox Appeal 2pt win
Venetia Williams owes us nothing after last week but I'll be a little upset if Niceonefrankie wins the 3 mile handicap. He is up against it in this class but has eased a few pounds and will be a player if the ground dries out. Preference is just for Grandioso at 10/1 who has a 9lb pull with Bury Parade after their forecast at Ascot last time out. He's a Grade 2 novice chase winner and looks to want a step up to 3 miles, especially given the way he was going at the end last time when just looking a bit outpaced in the heavy ground. He has won at Kempton and has a good record with Daryl Jacob in the saddle. Today's soft ground should be ideal. Whats Happening and Ardkilly Witness are the others on the shortlist at their respective prices. Kempton 15.50 - Grandioso 1pt e/w
Yorkist looked a little tapped for toe on slightly better ground than he's been winning on last time and the return of Nathan Moscrop has to be a plus. Back on heavy today, I'm not suggesting Moscrop is ever preference to McCpy (who was on last time), but he gets on so well with the horse and has a useful 7lb claim. I sense this isn't quite as good a race as last time and he certainly looked to have more to offer when hacking up on penultimate start. He does tend to pull early but there are a few that like to go forward and that should help him settle. He's 8/1 and should get further in time so a decent pace is needed. The other 2 to note are Angelot Du Berlais and Figaro. The former is unexposed but has had his problems and should probably be a little bigger in the market. Figaro looks progressive but there's a slight concern on deepish ground at 3/1. Newcastle 14.20 - Yorkist 1pt e/w
The Eider will be a beast of a race today over 4 miles 1 on heavy ground. I'll go for 2, 1 older and 1 younger horse. Of the oldies it really is between Smoking Aces and Our Island. The latter will be seen to far better effect now back at a marathon trip. I'm just surprised he's 7/1. He's dropped to a low weight but is 2lb out of the handicap. Smoking Aces goes the furthest he's been but that looks right this afternoon and he too is off a reasonable mark. More appealing at 15/2, he ran creditably last time in a race with good form and I'm a fan of Maurice Linehan's 5lb claim. The youngsters of interest are the obvious Sun Cloud, Financial Climate and Swatow Typhoon. Sun Cloud is shortest of the 3 and I'm really tempted by Financial Climate who looks a thorough stayer and can still win off his mark. Preference for the McCain horse is because of what we don't know about him. He is a tricky, lazy customer but 1st time blinkers are a sound idea and he looks worthy of a try at marathon trips. He ran no sort of race without headgear last time but is definitely on a handy mark for handicap debut and potentially too big at 14/1. Newcastle 14.55 - Swatow Typhoon 1pt e/w Newcastle 14.55 - Smoking Aces 1pt e/w
One from Chepstow comes from a trainer that is picking up after a poor winter. Tim Vaughan had a bleak December before a winless January and, given those statistics, one could argue Saved By John ran ok at Cheltenham in December on ground that was probably a little quick. His last win came on heavy and he's back to a mark where 2nd to Alasi in November. He showed battling qualities there after getting taken on for the lead and a good test here should suit. I hope he doesn't try and front run as he will not have it all his own way but, either way, he's too big at 9/1. The race could fall into Grey Gold's lap but he is up 7lb and short enough at 4/1 in an open race. Chepstow 15.05 - Saved By John 1pt e/w ===========================================

NOTEBOOK.
We highlight a selection of the runners from the past week’s races who may be ones to watch out for in future races.
Ground conditions were tough everywhere last week, but nowhere was as testing as Wincanton. Officials did really well to get the meeting off the ground and in the Listed Mares' Hurdle, TAGRITA ran out an impres- sive winner for Paul Nicholls and Daryl Jacob. This mare by King's Theatre looks a smart prospect, but there was much to like about the runner-up, CANNON FODDER . Trainer, Sheena West does well with a limited num- ber of horses and this mare is both tough and consistent. She will continue to pay her way in Mares' races and in handicaps. RESTLESS HARRY has always been a like- able type and it's great to see him fulfilling his potential at last. Three miles is his sort of trip over fences and he looked very good when landing a competitive handicap at Ascot last weekend. While the runner-up, TEAFORTHREE , will head to Aintree for the Grand National, RESTLESS HARRY will be one to keep on the right side of at Chel- tenham in the Festival Handicap Chase. Further down the field, CHANCE DU ROY is another to take out of the race and if he settles better in the Grand National, he could be of serious interest at a big price. The Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock threw up a surprise winner in the shape of SEEYOUATMIDNIGHT . Thoroughly like- able, this son of Midnight Legend will make a lovely chaser, but he can win again over hurdles before then and will head to Aintree next. CELESTIAL HALO ran well for a long way but tired quickly after racing fairly keenly. He had missed a few weeks of work with a foot infection but Paul Nicholls will have him cherry-ripe for Cheltenham and will be of interest in the World Hurdle at an each-way price. Jonjo O'Neill's MERRY KING should not be disregarded as far as the Grand National is concerned despite being pulled up in the Trial at Haydock last weekend. He was travelling sweetly enough on the testing ground, before he was seriously hampered by the fall of Wellforth and could never get going again. Long distance races such as this are all about rhythm and he could never get back on an even keel after this error. If he can steer clear of trouble at Ain- tree, he could run well. OPEN DAY caught the eye in the Pertemps qualifier at Haydock and looked set for a place turning in, before tiring on the test- ing ground. If he makes it to the Final at Cheltenham next month, he will go close for his astute connections. ======================================================
LAY.
THIS WEEK'S SELECTED RACE We are taking out the favourite (or joint-favourites) in the following race: Brewin Dolphin Maiden National Hunt Flat Race. Scheduled for Chepstow 4.45 - Saturday, 22 February
============================================
Race Ratings Saturday 22 February - 3.15 Kempton Dovecote Novices' Hurdle (Grade2) 2m
1-4113 AMORE ALTO 29 5 Nick Williams This horse has always been well regarded by trainer Nick Williams. He had decent form in bumpers but has improved since being sent hurdling. After a couple of fairly easy victories at Wincanton and Kempton, Amore Alto was sent to Cheltenham for a very competitive handicap hur- dle on Trials Day. He ran well on that occasion but the horrible ground wasn't to his liking. He is possibly on the upgrade. RATING: 96 84P021 CLONUSKER 40 6 Linda Jewell This horse is thoroughly exposed and out of his depth in a race like this. A winner last time, he will need to sprout wings to get involved here. RATING: 80 4-2 CUP FINAL 100 5 Nicky Henderson A lovely looking gelding by Presenting out of the useful Asian Maze, Cup Final finished fourth in a fair bumper at Wincanton last April and was sent off a hot favourite for his debut over hurdles in November. That race at Taunton turned out to be very decent, with Irving scoring easily. Cup Final was a fair second that day, but unless he has im- proved markedly, he may struggle to finish any closer to the Paul Nicholls-trained runner here. RATING: 96 1P3 DUBAI PRINCE 29 6 John Ferguson This horse looked really good when winning on his debut at Leicester in November, but he has failed to build on that promise. A Group 3 winner on the Flat and rated 116, Dubai Prince would be a major factor here if he can bounce back to form, but he was inconsistent on the Flat and is showing signs of being unreliable over timber. Talented, but not one to be completely trusted. RATING: 97 40-52F FASCINO RUSTICO 7 6 Paul Nicholls This horse was last seen just a week ago, when he fell at Wincanton having been sent off a hot favourite. He was travelling very strongly before falling at the second last, but it was a fairly soft fall and should not have affected his confidence. That said, Fascino Rustico has some way to justify his £310,000 price tag and he looks to be the sta- ble's second string in this race. RATING: 93 1 FIRST MOHICAN 16 6 Alan King A very decent horse on the Flat for the late Sir Henry Cecil, First Mohican has the right sort of profile to keep improving over hurdles. His debut was good but unspectacular and he will need to up his game considerably to come out on top here. His owner has been very vocal about his chances and it would be no surprise to see him in the shake-up. RATING: 97 1-1124 GARDE LA VICTOIRE 42 5 Philip Hobbs This son of Kapgarde is a very decent horse and has an entry in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle. Fourth most recently in the re-scheduled Tolworth Hurdle at Kempton, he looked very flat that day and would prefer better ground. He will need to learn to settle better too, but not one to be discounted, particularly with the trainer in such good form. RATING: 98 2-32 GERMANY CALLING 127 5 Charlie Longsdon This big, good-looking gelding has not been seen since finishing behind Lac Fontana at Cheltenham in October. His trainer is in good form and he wouldn't be running him here unless he thought he had a big chance. Respected. RATING: 97 111 IRVING 64 6 Paul Nicholls The probable favourite, Irving has enjoyed the perfect start to his hurdling career. A use- ful horse on the Flat in Germany, this son of Singspiel was rated 103 in that sphere and has done nothing but impress since coming over to England and joining Paul Nicholls. He beat Cup Final on his debut at Taunton and has won twice at Ascot, most recently ac- counting for subsequent Betfair Hurdle win- ner, Splash Of Ginge, in a Grade 2. Sets the standard here. RATING: 100 1F MIJHAAR 51 6 John Ferguson Another of John Ferguson's high-class recruits from the Flat. This nice type was impressive on his debut at Doncaster, but took a heavy fall at Huntingdon next time. Decent ground would help him, but he will need to step-up considerably to play a part here. RATING: 92 VAIHAU 5 Jonjo O'Neill There is not much to go on here and this un- raced son of Lavirco must be showing plenty at home to warrant an entry here. He doesn't have any entries in the novice hurdles at the Chel- tenham Festival and if he runs, he is likely to be over-shadowed by those with more experience. RATING: 90 ==========================================
STAT WATCH.
While form can only tell you what's happened previously, having an idea of which trainers are currently in form, or which jockeys have the best record at a certain racecourse, can help you to keep on the win- ning track. With relevance to this Saturday's televised races, this column highlights the current trends.
This Saturday's main meetings are at Kempton and Newcastle - opposite ends of the country and both tracks demanding completely different tests. Unsurprisingly, Nicky Henderson and Barry Ger- aghty have the best record at the Sunbury track, with strike-rates of 34% and 32% respectively. Nicky Henderson always likes to send a strong team to Kempton and he will be well represented on Saturday. Paul Nicholls and Alan King are two more trainers to respect at Kempton and with the latter really beginning to hit top gear now, it could pay to follow the master of Barbury Castle this weekend. Although Barry Geraghty is well ahead of all the other jockeys, Richard Johnson is next best and with his trainer, Philip Hobbs, firing in the winners, he should be respected too. The Grade 2 Dovecote Hurdle is always a fascinat- ing contest and Alan King likes to target this race, having won three of the last eight renewals. This year he saddles FIRST MOHICAN, who was a smart horse on the Flat and is worthy of an entry in a race such as this. Five-year-olds have the best record in this race and AMORE ALTO, CUP FINAL, GARDE LA VICTOIRE, GERMANY CALLING and VAIHAU fall into this category. The Adonis Hurdle is a decent Triumph Hurdle trial and always throws up a few decent horses. Last year's winner, Irish Saint, didn't go to Cheltenham, but he's done well since and most recently, it is Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson who have been the trainers to follow. Nicky Henderson is without a runner this year, but Paul Nicholls has two horses entered, in the shape of ALCALA and SOLAR IMPULSE. Moving on to Newcastle, Donald McCain enjoys the best record here and stable jockey Jason Maguire's strike-rate is also impressive at 19%. The Eider Chase is one of the best staying chases of the season, but with anticipated very heavy ground, it is likely to be another war of attrition this year. Despite this always being a real test of stamina and guts, top weights have a fairly good record in this race and that could make JUNIOR interesting here. The top five in the weights are likely to feature at the finish so don't be afraid of horses carrying plenty of weight. =============================================
RACING NEWS.
One of the favourites for next month's Champion Hurdle, My Tent Or Yours, com- pleted his preparation for the feature race of the first day of the Cheltenham Festival, with an easy win on the all-weather at Kempton. My Tent Or Yours had no trouble justifying his 1/5 odds and sauntered to an easy win. Trainer Nicky Henderson said he was de- lighted with the run and he will now head straight to Cheltenham. Former trainer David Barker has died at the age of 44. Famed for his handling of sprinters Celtic Mill and Sierra Vista, Barker was diag- nosed with cancer in 2009 and gave up train- ing to concentrate on fighting his illness. He leaves a wife, Sam. Three years since recording his last victory, Dunguib came out of the doldrums at Navan recently when landing the Grade 2 Boyne Hurdle for trainer Philip Fenton. Dunguib was an impressive winner of the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival in 2009 but has suffered from a series of leg prob- lems since going hurdling. Fenton is hoping to send Dunguib across the Irish Sea for a tilt at either the County Hurdle or Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival in March. Jeremy Scott's flag bearer, Melodic Rendezvous, overcame a persistent challenger in Zarkandar at Wincanton recently, when nar- rowly scoring in the Grade 2 Kingwell Hurdle under Nick Scholfield. The high-class eight- year-old will only line up for the Champion Hurdle if the ground is soft. Lord Stevens, the former Metropolitan Police Chief employed by Sheikh Mohammed follow- ing the sensational doping case last summer, has reported that there is no evidence to suggest that the Godolphin owner had any knowledge that Al Zarooni was administering illegal drugs to his horses to enhance per- formance. The report concluded that Al Zarooni, who was banned for eight years by the British Horseracing Authority, was working alone. Long Run got his head in front for the first time since landing the 2012 King George, when winning a Class 2 chase at Kelso last week. The Robert Waley-Cohen-owned gelding will be aimed at the Crabbies Grand National at the beginning of April, although trainer Nicky Henderson hasn't completely ruled out an appearance at the Cheltenham Festival. Jockey Mark Coumbe was involved in a horror fall at Southwell recently, but was discharged from hospital after observation. Coumbe was involved in a two horse pile up when his mount, Gebayel, veered violently left after breaking a blood vessel. Gebayel fell heavily, bringing down the William Carson-ridden Roxy Lane. Both horses and Carson were un- scathed in the incident and Coumbe was told to rest by doctors after scans revealed no lasting damage. ==========================================

Tony McCoy will ride My Tent Or Yours in the Stan James Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. ![http://e0.365dm.com/14/02/768x576/My-Tent-Or-Yours_3084901.jpg?20140216183641](http://e0.365dm.com/14/02/768x576/My-Tent-Or-Yours_3084901.jpg?20140216183641) My Tent Or Yours: Will be ridden by McCoy at Cheltenham Owner JP McManus also has Jezki lined up for the race, but McCoy has pledged his allegiance to the Nicky Henderson-trained horse who impressed in a jumpers' bumper last week. "One decision that is pretty well made - you can never take anything for granted in racing - is that I will ride My Tent Or Yours in the Stan James Champion Hurdle," McCoy wrote in his Daily Telegraph column. "It was hard not be impressed by his bumper success at Kempton last Sunday - whether you were watching or riding. Even though we went a good gallop from the start he was still a bit keen, but that is why we wanted to run him - to take the freshness out of him. He gave me a great feel and won as we hoped, pulling clear without me asking him too many questions. "The clock confirmed that he was in good heart for he was almost eight seconds quicker than any other winner over two miles that day and although the form of these races does not mean much, it does show how well Nicky Henderson has him.

The JP McManus-owned gelding looked a smart prospect earlier in the season as he won his first two starts over timber, having graduated from point-to-points. He was well held when stepped up to Grade One level for the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse in December, finishing seventh in a race won by The Tullow Tank, but Harty is confident his charge did not give his true running on that occasion. "I've been delighted with the horse. He's in good old form and I'm looking forward to Sunday," said the Curragh handler. "It was always the plan to go for the Royal Bond or for the race at Christmas, but not both, and then give him a break. "I just thought, for whatever reason, he didn't give his true running at Fairyhouse. Sunday will show whether I'm right or wrong. "He's in the two novice hurdles at Cheltenham and also in the County Hurdle. We'll be a lot wiser after Sunday as to which way to go and I'd say how he runs will dictate things." McManus is also represented by City Slicker, who would appear to be first choice with Tony McCoy taking the mount. The Willie Mullins-trained gelding bounced back to winning ways at Punchestown last time having faded in the closing stages when running freely in the competitive Ladbroke Hurdle at Ascot before Christmas. The 140-rated six-year-old holds the highest official mark in this weekend's Grade Two contest, but while Mullins thinks he has the talent, he cautioned that he can be a bit keen for his own good. "He looks one of the better horses in the race, but he is not the easiest of rides," said the champion trainer. "He'll go on the ground and the trip will suit him well, but he doesn't help himself with the way he races." Mullins also saddles the only mare in the race, Vicky De L'Oasis, and believes her sex allowance brings her into the equation. "The conditions of the race look to suit Vicky De L'Oasis and hopefully that gives her every chance," said the Closutton handler. Colm Murphy's Empire Of Dirt, Willie McCreery's Kick On Boss and the Philip Fenton-trained Real Steel also feature among seven declared runners.

Views from connections ahead of the Woodlands Park 100 Club Nas Na Riogh Novice Chase at Naas. ![http://e1.365dm.com/14/02/640/Willie-Mullins-stable-media-day_3086239.jpg?20140219150316](http://e1.365dm.com/14/02/640/Willie-Mullins-stable-media-day_3086239.jpg?20140219150316) Willie Mullins: Trains Mozoltov Mozoltov could earn himself a trip to the Cheltenham Festival if he accounts for his two opponents in the Woodlands Park 100 Club Nas Na Riogh Novice Chase at Naas. The Willie Mullins-trained eight-year-old showed a smart level of form over hurdles and made the perfect start to his chasing career when dotting up at Fairyhouse in the middle of December. He was fancied to play a leading role in the Irish Arkle at Leopardstown last month and while he was ultimately well beaten into third by fellow Gigginstown House Stud-owned runner Trifolium and stablemate Felix Yonger, that looks strong form in the context of Sunday's Grade Two test. Mozoltov holds entries in both the Arkle and JLT Novices' Chase at Cheltenham, but Mullins is keen to get this weekend's race out of the way before considering a trip to Prestbury Park in March. Mullins said: "The conditions will suit him very well and I don't think two and a half miles will be a problem. "We have been happy with him since Leopardstown and we are hoping if he can reproduce the form of his Arkle run, that should be good enough at this level. "We'll see what happens this weekend before we think about that (Cheltenham)." Mozoltov is rated 16lb higher than Folsom Blue, who also runs in the Gigginstown silks for trainer Conor O'Dwyer. O'Dwyer would be happy to see his charge pick up a small share of the 40,000 euros on offer before running in one of the Nationals in the spring. "It's not ideal as it's only two and a half miles and we're 16lb wrong with Mozoltov, but it fits in nicely for him to have a run," said the trainer. "There is nothing else for him and there is no point staying at home when there is prize-money like that on offer. "Also, you never know in a three-horse race. "I was thrilled with his last run. It was a good effort for his first handicap and he jumped very well. "He's not the biggest but he loves really soft ground and the further the better. "He could come back to Naas for the Leinster National on March 9 and I also have the Midlands National (at Uttoxeter) after Cheltenham in the back of my mind. "The Irish National is an option, but the ground could play a big part there as it's not until April 21 and it could be gone by then." The field is completed by Ted Walsh's Summer Star, who was well held on her sole chase start at the track last month.

Festival stable stars: Top trainer Paul Nicholls' guide to Cheltenham
ROCKY CREEK (Betred Cheltenham Gold Cup)
I still think he needs a bit more experience to run in the Grand National and he is not exactly thrown in with 11st 5lb.
He is second season novice and ran a grand race when second in the Hennessy Gold Cup, jumping the last upside the winner. He just got a little tired and we then had a little bit of a setback when he had colic.
I think we rushed him before he was second in the Argento Chase. I don't think we have had him as fit as he should be yet just because of circumstance. Since Cheltenham he has grafted hard. He will have a racecourse gallop. I am not saying he is going to win but he is capable of running a big race and could make the frame at 40-1. You saw what happened with Synchronised a few years ago.
BIG BUCK'S (Ladbrokes World Hurdle)
He came in late and we did all we could to get him ready to win first time out. With horses like him when they have had leg trouble, you just train them with the handbrake on - you don't do as much as you can and they need the run a bit.
There was about of criticism of Sam (Twiston-Davies) but he rode him exactly how I wanted. I was smiling when I saw comments that he should have hung on to him for longer. He is a stayer and he wins his races staying on strongly from the back of the last.
Ruby (Walsh) rang me up that night and said he would have ridden him the same way. When you have a horse who stays you don't ride him for a sprint finish and they always go a good gallop in the World Hurdle. All he did at Cheltenham was get tired on ground he does not like – lack of match fitness beat him - but he did a good job. I reckon he lost about 10 kilos and tightened up. He looks absolutely fantastic.
I think he ran as well first time out as any of his last five seasons. Every year before, he has gone to the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury and had a soft race beating Five Dream or Reve De Sivola. We were able to build his fitness up slowly into the spring. It was a tough as race as he has had first time up.
Everything is going to plan but again I would not want to see the ground too bad – all those grade one he has won have been on good or good to soft. He is much better on better ground.
AL FEROF (Ryanair Chase)
He no longer holds an entry in the Gold Cup – it was fairly obvious at Newbury on Saturday (when he was second to Harry Topper in the Denman Chase) that he does not stay.
In the King George (when he was third), probably his class got him home. He almost certainly runs in the Ryanair and I think the race is perfect for him. He has the option of the Champion Chase if the ground was very testing. He does not lack pace for a son of Dom Alco.
He likes nice ground but he still has not had it this season.
SAM WINNER (RSA Chase)
He was second to Smad Place at Newbury on Saturday, giving him 3lb. Smad Place is now 8-1 for the RSA Chase and this fellow is 16-1 so I think he is quite a good price. He won at Cheltenham in the Autumn on better ground. He is a big stuffy horse and I was surprised he ran as well as he did on Saturday.
I had left plenty to work on and I think it is quite an open RSA – he jumps and stays.
IRVING (Supreme Novices' Hurdle)
He is one of the favourites and his form was boosted by Splash of Ginge winning the Betfair Hurdle as he beat him when he won at Ascot.
We have minded him a little bit and I am thrilled with how he looks. He could run in the Dovecote Novices' Hurdle (at Kempton on February 22) but not if it was heavy and I have made an entry at the Jumpers for Bumpers meeting at Kempton on Sunday. He has loads of speed and jumps really nicely and hopefully we have not seen the best of him yet .
WONDERFUL CHARM (JLT CHASE)
He is one of the favourites for the two mile four furlong chase. He has had a bit of puss in his foot but we are on top of that and he has not missed any work.
He did well in the Autumn and got beat a neck by Oscar Whisky giving him 8lb which was a fantastic run. We have given him a lot of experience but the key to him is ground – he definitely wants better going.
He wouldn't want it a lot softer than good to soft. Hence we've planned a spring campaign, starting out at Cheltenham and going to Aintree and Sandown.
He jumps really well and Oscar Whisky has done the form no harm.
CALIPTO (Triumph Hurdle)
He carried a 10lb penalty against older horses at Newbury which is good for a juvenile and won nicely.
I love the horse – he jumps well and has loads of speed. After Saturday, the handicapper has put him on a mark of 149 which is extremely high for a juvenile. That puts him level with Nick Williams-trained Le Rocher and they are the two highest rated juvenile hurdlers in Britain or Ireland.
The only downside is that the Triumph is usually win by a horse which has run on the Flat and he hasn't.
He lacks that experience but he works as well as a Flat horse if the ground stays as it is it will be in his favour.
SILVINIACO CONTI (Betfred Gold Cup)
He won us our eighth King George. I watched last year's Gold Cup again and had forgotten just how well he was travelling coming down the hill when he fell at the third last. Who's to say what would have happened but I suspect he would have been first or second.
That fall probably did him the world of good – it woke him up. It was good experience for him.
We have done things differently this season with him. Last season our aim was to win the Betfair Chase, which he did, and we went to the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby. This year we wanted to win the King George so we went straight to the Betfair Chase and was third to Cue Card.
He needed the run at Haydock after looking like the winner going to the second last and getting tired. He improved enormously for that run and I told Noel (Fehily) whatever you do, don't let Cue Card have an easy lead. All he does is stay and gallop, so use your stamina.
I wasn't surprised we bridged the gap, we were way fitter at Kempton. We have to get him back to that level and I am very happy with him – he will definitely have a racecourse gallop somewhere. That might be Kempton on the all-weather.
I think he has a leading chance. They are all dangers in the Gold Cup. Bobs Worth's (Lexus Chase) form with Flight Lieutenant didn't have a massive boost at the weekend with Tidal Bay beating him in the Irish Hennessy but he loves Cheltenham and is the one to beat.
DODGING BULLETS (Arkle Chase)
He has had a fantastic season winning three from three before we gave him a little break. He was second to Module in the Game Spirit Chase at the weekend, travelling and jumping well and might have had a blow halfway up the running before running on again.
There is plenty of improvement in him for the Arkle and the faster they go, the better it will suit him.
Saturday's race has really tightened him up and his prep has gone well. He is a cracking horse who would run himself into the ground and give everything.
We tweaked his breathing in the summer and he has never looked back.
CELESTIAL HALO (Ladbrokes World Hurdle)
He is a Triumph Hurdle winner and was second in last season's World Hurdle. He was going to run in the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot before Christmas but got an infection in a foot. That held us up a bit but he has got over that now. But I felt I just needed a run to get him back on top form.
He runs at Haydock over three miles on Saturday but whatever he does he will improve for the run.
He needs a tough race and Sam Twiston-Davies will ride him.
HINTERLAND (Arkle Chase)
He has also been kept away from the soft ground having won his two starts in the Autumn. He is a second season novice and had experience last year so his jumping is good.
The plan is to give him a racecourse gallop in the next 10 days. He still has an entry in the Champion Chase but the only reason for that is if the race fell apart.
He was struggling with his breathing last year and an operation has turned him round. I don't think there is much between him and Dodging Bullets.
ZARKANDAR (World Hurdle)
He will run at Wincanton on Saturday in the Kingwell Hurdle over two miles against Melodic Rendezvous.
He comes alive in the spring. He has been second twice to Annie Power and once to The New One so it has been difficult to tell if he has been running up to form or not. One is unbeaten and the other might win the Champion Hurdle.
He is bred to stay and I think three miles will suit but I would prefer on his first try to have some good ground. We could have a lot of fun with him over the next few years.

A SELECTION FROM THE WILLIE MULLINS FESTIVAL TEAM...
HURRICANE FLY (Champion Hurdle)
He came in very strong from summer grass and I am happy he has maintained that strength all season.
We had a setback with him before his last run (in the Irish Champion Hurdle) and had to give him a few easy days but it worked and he was fit enough to win the race. I thought he was beaten going to the last hurdle but he put down his head and battled. He was going away at the line so I was very pleased. He was unimpressive on his comeback at Punchestown because he was so big and not fit enough and then the next race was very tactical but he got through it. It’s a great sign of a horse if he can win a tactical race.
So far, whichever way the races have been run he seems to be able to cope with it.
A lot don’t train on over the years but this fella still retains his fight, his aggressiveness, the qualities that probably make him stand out from the other horses.
I’d like to win the Champion for the horse’s sake - he deserves it.
UN DE SCEAUX (Champion Hurdle)
He is a young talent that I don’t want to abuse. He has done everything we have asked him and we have been lucky enough to find races in which he can show his talent without coming under huge pressure. To me, he could be the future so we will play it as we find it over the next three weeks. I would have to say he has surprised us – he looks a huge talent. But he hasn’t been in grade one or two company yet.
One or two horses have taken him on in his races and he has put them away but in the Champion five or six will take you on and they might not fall away as quick. I am looking at next year. We can find easier options.
ANNIE POWER (Champion Hurdle or World Hurdle)
She was highly strung but has settled down with racing and is in good form. I will prepare like all the horses and at the last minute we will decide what goes where. You have to ask yourself what else is running in those races. They are things we will put into the mix.

Lingfield Park, 22 February 2014
1.45, first race
The Stewards noted that LADIES ARE FOREVER, placed sixth, and BALLISTA (IRE), unplaced, had interfered with FOREST EDGE (IRE), unplaced, early in the home straight but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip Graham Gibbons, the rider of the winner, TAROOQ (USA), from one furlong out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Gibbons for 2 days as follows: Saturday 8 and Tuesday 11 March 2014.
2.15, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into two possible incidents of interference.
In the first incident approaching the final furlong, having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that MY KINGDOM (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Andrea Atzeni, had interfered with GLASTONBERRY, unplaced, ridden by Jamie Spencer. The Stewards found Atzeni in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift left without sufficient correction. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.
In the second incident inside the final furlong, having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that interference took place between MY KINGDOM (IRE) , LUJEANIE, unplaced, ridden by Shane Kelly and WELEASE BWIAN (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Adam Beschizza. They found the interference was accidental.
