Mallowney will be kept to domestic competition for the rest of this season after his respectable second-placed finish in Sunday's Flyingbolt Novice Chase at Navan.
Trainer Tim Doyle is planning a return to Naas, scene of three of the six-year-old gelding's four career victories to date, before the big spring meetings arrive.
Mallowney went head-to-head with Bright New Dawn in the Grade Two event before weakening on the run-in, but it was an improvement on his previous run in the Arkle at Leopardstown, where he fell at the second-last.
"I thought he ran a good race - he was just outstayed," said Doyle.
"He was a bit keen and the ground was very testing, he'd prefer it better.
"I hope to go to Naas for a Listed race in three weeks' time and if he stays in good form, then we can look at Fairyhouse and Punchestown." ================================================= No Hadrian's Approach for BetBright Chase HADRIAN'S APPROACH, who had been as short as 8-1 favourite in ante-post lists for the BetBright Chase, did not feature among the remaining entries for the race at the five-day stage on Monday. ============================================

First Mohican and Irving feature among 11 entries for Saturday's Sky Bet Dovecote Novices' Hurdle at Kempton. First Mohican: Made an impressive start at Doncaster Alan King's First Mohican was formerly trained by Sir Henry and Lady Cecil on the Flat and earned a quote of 14/1 from the sponsors for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham after making a winning debut over timber at Doncaster. He could bid to give King a fourth victory in the Grade Two contest, following wins for Senorita Rumbalita, Trenchant and Grumeti, who struck in 2012 and syndicate manager Henry Ponsonby is full of confidence. "First Mohican has come out of his win at Doncaster fantastically well and is a definite runner in the Sky Bet Dovecote Novices' Hurdle," he said. "I thought he would win a bit more impressively than he did, but Alan tells me that he has come on a ton since then. He worked very well on Friday and you would not know he had a race. "I think he's stones better than the bare result at Doncaster, but don't forget that Huff And Puff was a good horse on the Flat as well. "I think First Mohican has got a tremendous chance on Saturday and, even if Irving runs, I'm not too concerned as First Mohican was a better horse on the Flat. "Hopefully, after the Dovecote it will be on to Cheltenham for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle." Paul Nicholls' leading novice Irving missed an intended engagement in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury on account of the soft ground but was also left in at the five-day stage following a pleasing workout on Monday morning (click here). Nicholls has a second string to his bow in the shape of Fascino Rustico, who fell when favourite at Wincanton earlier in the month. The John Ferguson-trained Dubai Prince may attempt to bounce back to winning ways having not quite delivered on his hugely promising hurdling debut success in two subsequent outings. Ferguson also has Mijhaar to call upon, while Nicky Henderson has Cup Final entered and Philip Hobbs' sole representative is Garde La Victoire. The 11 possible contenders are completed by Amore Alato, Clonusker, Germany Calling and Vaihau. The sponsors have put up an opening show, installing First Mohican as 6/4 favourite, with Irving next in the betting at 2/1 and Amore Alato at 7/1. Michael Shinners, Racing PR for Sky Bet, commented: "This is the last recognised trial for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle before the big day at Cheltenham on March 11. "We are delighted with the quality of the race and with First Mohican and possibly Irving both running, we will have a clearer idea on Saturday evening of what are going to be the main challengers from this side of the Irish Sea."

Cheltenham Racecourse have announced that this year's National Hunt Chase will be run in honour of the late Terry Biddlecombe. The four-mile contest takes place on Champion Day at The Festival, Tuesday, March 11. ![http://e2.365dm.com/14/01/768x576/Terry-Biddlecombe_3061967.jpg?20140105121313](http://e2.365dm.com/14/01/768x576/Terry-Biddlecombe_3061967.jpg?20140105121313) The National Hunt Chase will be run in honour of Terry Biddlecombe Terry Biddlecombe died on January 5 this year at the age of 72. Gloucester-born Biddlecombe had a huge impact on Jump racing both as a leading jockey in the 1960s and 1970s and latterly working in partnership with his wife, the trainer Henrietta Knight. His memorial takes place today at Cheltenham Racecourse. As a jockey Biddlecombe enjoyed nine winners at The Festival, headed by the Fred Rimell-trained Woodland Venture in the 1967 Cheltenham Gold Cup. He was also champion Jump jockey on three occasions - 1964/65, 1965/66 and 1968/69 (jointly with Bob Davies). He recorded his first winner at Wincanton on Burnella in March, 1958 and enjoyed his final victory at the same course on Finmoss in March, 1974. In total, he rode 908 winners over 17 seasons between 1958 and 1974, with the bulk of his big-race successes coming on horses trained by Fred Rimell. His final day in the saddle came at Cheltenham in 1974. Following his retirement as a jockey, Biddlecombe worked as a broadcaster and spent time in Australia before returning to Britain. He met Henrietta Knight at Malvern Sales in 1992 and the couple subsequently married in 1995. Together, they formed a formidable partnership and went on to make West Lockinge Farm in Oxfordshire one of the leading Jump yards in the country. The pair enjoyed phenomenal success at The Festival, with their seven winners headed by Best Mate, who became the first horse since Arkle to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup three times when successful in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Another highlight was the thrilling victory of Edredon Bleu in the 2000 Queen Mother Champion Chase, when a new course record time was set. Henrietta Knight commented: "It is a great honour that Cheltenham is naming the National Hunt Chase after Terry this year. "He would have been very touched. Cheltenham always was his favourite racecourse. I would just like to thank everyone involved for making this possible." Ian Renton, Regional Director of the South West region of The Jockey Club, added: "Terry always loved Cheltenham and I'm sure had many happy memories from the course, both during his riding career and the years when he and Henrietta were training. "We all remember the mighty Best Mate but some of the older racing fraternity will also remember his Gold Cup win on Woodland Venture in the 60s. It is only fitting therefore, that he is remembered at this year's Festival." The four-mile National Hunt Chase is the longest race run at The Festival. The distance was reduced in distance by a furlong in 2008 and reverted back to the Old Course. The 2008 renewal was run as the Peter O'Sullevan National Hunt Chase to celebrate the legendary commentator's 90th birthday and in 2012 honoured the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Last year's race remembered the late Lord John Oaksey, the leading amateur rider, journalist, broadcaster and founder of the Injured Jockeys' Fund. Terry Biddlecombe's name will also be carried for one year. First staged in 1860, the National Hunt Chase has been run more times - 143 - than any other race at The Festival. Until the 1930s, only the Grand National was more important than the National Hunt Chase in the Jump calendar. The race had been run at a number of venues until it became a part of the new two-day National Hunt Festival at Cheltenham in 1911. It had also been run at Cheltenham in 1904 and 1905.

The Irish Turf Club will pay "close attention" to a County Tipperary court hearing involving an unnamed trainer who has been charged with the possession of unlicensed 'animal remedies'. The Department of Agriculture has brought the case following a reported inspection of the trainer's yard, with the precise nature of the medicines currently unclear. A statement said: "The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine confirms that a hearing is scheduled for Carrick-on-Suir District Court on Thursday, February 20. "Charges are being brought under the Animal Remedies legislation, alleging offences relating to possession of animal remedies. "A person who commits one of the offences listed above is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding €5,000 or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months or to both." Denis Egan, chief executive of the Turf Club, confirmed that the body is aware of Thursday's scheduled hearing. "The case involves banned animal remedies. We don't know yet the precise nature of these products. But we will be paying close attention to what happens," Egan told the Irish Times.

Wolverhampton, 17 February 2014
2.45, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Mr J Hamilton, the rider of the winner, GOLDMADCHEN (GER), in the home straight. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip down the shoulder in the forehand position. The Stewards suspended Mr Hamilton for 2 days on dates to be notified to him by the British Horseracing Authority.
The Stewards noted that GENERAL TUFTO, placed second, had interfered with KOZMINA BAY, placed fourth, who in turn interfered with WHISKEY N STOUT (IRE), unplaced, inside the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved GENERAL TUFTO’s placing.
3.15, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, A LITTLE BIT DUSTY, ridden by Hayley Turner, had interfered with DOLDRUMS (USA), placed second, ridden by Joe Fanning, who in turn interfered with GOLDEN JUBILEE (USA), placed third, ridden by Williams Twiston-Davies. They found the interference was accidental.
3.45, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of COILLTE CAILIN (IRE), ridden by Tom Queally and trained by Daniel Loughnane, which finished second beaten a neck having been held up until approaching the final furlong after which the filly made rapid headway. They interviewed the rider and the trainer. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated that his instructions were to get the filly settled as she has been keen in past races. He added that he was unable to make his run earlier owing to the fact that he became trapped behind horses on the final bend; had he attempted at this point to take the horse back and make his run on the outside of the field he felt he would have lost too much ground and momentum. He further added that although he was aware that the leaders had kicked on the final bend he was not in a position to make up ground until a gap presented itself at the beginning of the home straight. The trainer confirmed his instructions adding that he had alerted the rider to COILLTE CAILIN (IRE)’s last run where she hung left-handed having been ridden on the outside of the field. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations.
4.45, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Adrian Nicholls, the rider of ADDICTIVE DREAM (IRE), placed fifth, approaching the final furlong. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Nicholls for 4 days as follows: Monday 3, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 March 2014.
5.45, eighth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, DIMITAR (USA), ridden by Liam Keniry and trained by Johnny Farrelly, compared with its previous run at Wolverhampton on 8 February 2014 where the gelding finished seventh of eight beaten 19½ lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding benefited from the application of a blind in the stalls which enabled DIMITAR (USA) to break much better today.

Southwell, 17 February 2014
4.00, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the fall of Lee Edwards, the rider of TANTALIZED, shortly after the start. They interviewed the rider and the Starters. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the incident the Stewards found that the fall was caused by the mare jinking as the tapes went up. Being satisfied that no other horse or rider was involved, the Stewards took no further action.
17/02/2014 ====================================================
Southwell, 17 February 2014
2.00, first race
The Stewards considered the running of EXEMPLARY, ridden by Mrs Alex Dunn and trained by Alexandra Dunn, which finished unplaced. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
4.30, sixth race
Paddy Brennan, the rider of BOBS LORD TARA, unplaced, reported that the gelding did not face the kickback.
17/02/2014
Wolverhampton, 17 February 2014
3.15, third race
Graham Gibbons, the rider of PERTEMPS NETWORKS, unplaced, reported that the gelding had no more to give.
4.15, fifth race
Shelley Birkett, the rider of ATTAIN, unplaced, reported that the gelding ran flat.
4.45, sixth race
Graham Gibbons, the rider of JIROFT (ITY), unplaced, reported that the gelding suffered interference in running.
Hayley Turner, the rider of LEXI’S HERO (IRE), unplaced, reported that the gelding hung left.

14:15 Tuesday 18th February Racing Tips - 18/02/2014
The mares' handicap chase at Wetherby could be a reasonable test given that almost all of the field like to race prominently. If this was a furlong or 2 shorter then the selection would definitely be Fair Bramble but she is a questionable stayer and I'm surprised to see her up in trip. Hidden Horizons will see this out but she is giving weight to the field and I just wonder if she wants slightly better ground. She is potentially well treated on handicap chase bow so preference for something else is purely down to a bigger price. Nick Alexander sends out The Flaming Matron at 6/1 for her chase debut and Lucy Alexander has won on her before. That came over 2 miles 6 furlongs on soft and she looked to want a good test that day. Last time was a touch sharp and this big galloping mare may just be that fair bit better over fences. Wetherby 14.15 - The Flaming Matron 1pt e/w
Again there's likely to be a good gallop in the next handicap given the presence of Heavenstown, Grey Area and Brave Buck. That will suit course and distance winner Forty Crown who is only 1lb higher than for his win here 12 months ago and he hasn't gone unnoticed at 4/1. I was all out to back him until getting to bottom weight Delightfully who was 2 lengths behind Forty Crown last year. She is, however, a stone better off this time and the race is likely to be run even more to suit today. There was little pace last time and she couldn't quicken before staying on. This is the first time she has encountered heavy ground since and she travelled well enough here last time over further before fading. She has form to find with the likeable Stickleback but a strong pace over what has to be a minimum trip for her should suit down to the ground. At 10, Stickleback or something lesser exposed may be too good but on that bare form with the likely favourite I can't believe she's 10/1 off a carer low mark. The blinkers that have been on for her last 2 successes replace the visor she's worn of late. Wetherby 14:50 - Delightfully 1pt e/w
Finally, Massena will be nearly impossible to beat in the penultimate race at Wetherby. He won stylishly and in a very good time at Leicester and a 7lb penalty looks unlikely to stop him. The angle here looks to be finding the second and I'm surprised to see that Desgrey is third in the betting at 8/1. Now, winning for this 11 race maiden doesn't come naturally and he likely wants more of a stamina test. However, this is a drop in class from his chase debut and he'd have finished closer to the winner had he not made blunders 3 and 2 from home. He has twice been 2nd here over hurdles and the time he put in on heavy ground last time was good enough to suggest a repeat will see him beat all but the favourite. Cloverhill Lad is a last time out winner but the form doesn't inspire and this 10 year old will need a career best to challenge. Desgrey's form is actually very good and the yard are in good nick having sent out a couple of February winners. Hopefully they'll make this a true test because he'll certainly want further in time. He's a half brother to a heavy ground winner and you never know with Massena, who has bounced before when turned back out quickly. A different track, different jockey and hike in class may give something else a sniff…maybe. Wetherby 16.30 - Desgrey 1pt e/w ============================================== ROBIN GOODFELLOW SELECTIONS...

Philip Fenton, trainer of leading Cheltenham Gold Cup fancy Last Instalment, is scheduled to appear at a County Tipperary court on Thursday charged with the possession of banned substances.
The Department of Agriculture brought the case following an inspection of Fenton's yard in January 2012.
A statement said: "The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine confirms that a hearing is scheduled for Carrick-on-Suir District Court on Thursday, February 20. Charges are being brought under the Animal Remedies legislation, alleging offences relating to possession of animal remedies."
It went on: "A person who commits one of the offences listed above is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding 5,000 euro or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months or to both."
The Courts Service confirmed in a summons notice that Fenton, of Garryduff, South Lodge, Carrick-on-Suir, has been served with a series of charges in relation to animal remedies. The case has been mentioned twice at the District Court and is due to be heard again on Thursday.
Fenton has been famed for his handling of not only Last Instalment but also former Champion Bumper hero Dunguib, who has been plagued by injury and won at Navan on Sunday, almost three years to the day of his last success.
Denis Egan, chief executive of the Turf Club, confirmed the body is aware of the hearing.
He said: "We are aware there is a case coming up and we will be there to see what happens. Once the case has concluded, we will take any appropriate action.
"We don't know any specific details at this stage."
Fenton was not available for comment.

The Grand National-winning rider will play no part in the centrepiece of jumps racing after he suffered a dislocated shoulder for a second time in three months in January. Murphy must now undergo corrective surgery on the troublesome injury. The jockey's agent, Chris Broad, said: "The only light at end of the tunnel is that he is going to have an operation on the shoulder. "I spoke to him on Monday and it (the shoulder) is fine, but he needs to address the problem once and for all. "That's going to rule him out of Cheltenham, unfortunately, but he needs to get it right." Murphy, who has secured eight winners at the Festival, suffered a recurrence of the injury in an accident at his home in Gloucestershire. The 39-year-old first dislocated the joint at Newbury in November following an altercation with fellow jockey Dominic Elsworth, for which he was banned nine days by the British Horseracing Authority. ========================================================= Leading Irish jumps owners Gigginstown House Stud have offered their unyielding support to trainer Philip Fenton, who has been charged with possession of anabolic steroids and other unlicensed substances.
Fenton is scheduled to appear at a County Tipperary court on Thursday to answer charges brought about by the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine following an inspection of his yard on January 18, 2012.
The Carrick-on-Suir handler is responsible for leading Cheltenham Gold Cup contender Last Instalment, a superb winner of the Irish Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown for the Gigginstown operation.
Gigginstown's racing manager, Eddie O'Leary, said the case against Fenton was "an absolute storm in a teacup".
He told Press Association Sport: "I spoke to Philip on Monday and he's more embarrassed than anything else.
"We should remember that this all happened two and a half years ago.
"We support Philip wholeheartedly. He has never had a positive test for anything. You could not meet a straighter, and more honest, fellow."
Fenton's stock has been especially high of late following the exploits of Last Instalment and the 2009 Cheltenham Champion Bumper winner Dunguib, who was victorious at Navan on Sunday.
The Tullow Tank is another Fenton-trained candidate for the Cheltenham Festival in March after winning three races, two of which were Grade Ones, this term.
O'Leary, brother of Ryanair supremo and fellow Gigginstown boss, Michael, is adamant Fenton will not be found guilty of any wrongdoing when the case is heard on Thursday morning at Carrick-on-Suir District Court.
He said: "I'm sure he'll be fine. All this is bureaucracy gone mad, jobs for the boys. It's the department (of Agriculture, Food and the Marine) trying to make work for themselves by wanting proper labels on every single bottle in every single yard.
"We spend whatever money on educating and qualifying vets, but the vast majority of department vets have no actual interest in being vets. All they want is to join the department and have a nice and easy nine-to-five job.
"Horses cannot be looked after nine to five. If a horse gets colic, you sometimes have to treat it yourself or it could be dead by the time the vet gets there. This is an absolute storm in a teacup and I'm sure most normal people will see this for what it is."
The Irish Courts Service confirmed in a summons notice that Fenton has been served with a series of charges in relation to animal remedies.
Should he be found guilty, punishments range from a maximum fine of 5,000 euro to a six-month term of imprisonment.
The Tullow Tank's owner Barry Connell refused to be drawn on the Fenton case when contacted on Tuesday morning.
He said: "I'm not going to discuss any of that. I have no comment to make."

Geoff Oldroyd will launch a two-pronged assault on Lingfield Park's valuable fixture this Saturday which offers two Listed Fast-Track Qualifiers and £173,500 in prize money. ![http://e2.365dm.com/13/07/768x576/Ladies-Are-Forever-1_2972063.jpg?20130712145057](http://e2.365dm.com/13/07/768x576/Ladies-Are-Forever-1_2972063.jpg?20130712145057) Ladies Are Forever: Set for Lingfield Yorkshire-based Oldroyd will saddle his stable star Ladies Are Forever in the Listed Compare Bookmakers At bookmakers.co.uk Cleves Stakes over six furlongs, a Fast-Track Qualifier for the £150,000 bookmakers.co.uk All-Weather Sprint on Good Friday, April 18. The six-year-old mare captured last year's renewal by a length and then set a new five-furlong course record in the Listed Hever Sprint Stakes in March. She went on to win the Group Three Summer Stakes over six furlongs at York in July and subsequently finished seventh in two Group One contests over five furlongs, the Nunthorpe Stakes and Prix de l'Abbaye. Oldroyd reported: "Ladies Are Forever is definitely going for the Compare Bookmakers At bookmakers.co.uk Cleves Stakes on Saturday. "Her preparation has gone nicely and I would say she will probably be fit enough to win, but it will sharpen her up as well. She has strengthened up for the break and is only five and a half really because she was such a late foal. "She ran some nice races in those Group Ones last year, not beaten far, and I think she would have been nearer had they been over a bit further. "She loves the track at Lingfield and still holds the track record over five furlongs. The idea is to qualify her for Finals Day and she will go back to Lingfield in March for another qualifier and you would be hopeful she would be able to win one of them. "I would be quite hopeful on Saturday, but it depends what turns up. It will be interesting to see if Hoof It runs because he is a full-brother to Ladies Are Forever and I don't think they have ever clashed. "Obviously, Reg (Bond, owner) bred them both and the mare had a full-sister to Ladies Are Forever this week and is off to Frankel next, so it could be a big week for the family." Also among the entries is Haydock Park Sprint Cup third Hoof It, Tarooq, who holds the six-furlong course record following his victory in December, and Hawkeyethenoo. Karl Burke has entered recent course and distance scorer Rivellino, while Andrew Balding could saddle lightly-race four-year-old Absolutely So. Alfred Hutchinson enjoyed the biggest success of his career at Lingfield Park in January, breaking the seven-furlong Polytrack course record in the process. The six-year-old is among 20 entries for the £45,000 Ladbrokes Handicap over the same distance on Saturday. Oldroyd added: "Alfred Hutchinson will also run on Saturday and is in great nick. He obviously loves it around Lingfield, but hopefully he will get a decent draw. "He won nicely last time and is a horse who is a lot better than you think. If he gets too keen, he just plugs on but if you can switch him off in the first furlong, he has a right turn of foot. He is a good horse when things drop right." Alfred Hutchinson could renew his rivalry with Grey Mirage, who came out on top when the pair clashed in a Fast-Track Qualifier on January 11, and course specialist Brocklebank.

Paul Nicholls has gone on record this season as saying that he believes Zarkandar could make his presence felt in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. ![http://e1.365dm.com/13/04/768x576/the-new-one-zarkandar-full_2924593.jpg?20130404153710](http://e1.365dm.com/13/04/768x576/the-new-one-zarkandar-full_2924593.jpg?20130404153710) Zarkandar: Could be a player in the World Hurdle The seven-year-old has yet to race beyond two miles four furlongs and had his latest start for the Somerset handler over the minimum trip in the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton on Saturday. ) He lost out by half a length to Melodic Rendezvous in the Grade Two Hurdle and won't be renewing rivalry in the Stan James Champion Hurdle with his only entry next month being in the three mile contest. Ruby Walsh, who has partnered Zarkandar to four of his eight career wins over hurdles, believes that Zarkava's half-brother has all the requisite attributes to be a leading player in that contest providing he gets his ground. "I won on him at Aintree last year when he beat The New One over two four; that was on a sound surface and that was a really good performance," he told Racing UK. "He does shape like a horse who would stay, most Triumph winners do, and he definitely does appreciate a bit better ground. He's a light-framed horse, a really good mover and good ground, in the past, has brought out the best in him and there's no reason to suggest that it wouldn't now and you'd have to think he would stay." Zarkandar is a 10/1 chance for the World Hurdle in which his stable could also run Big Buck's, Celestial Halo, Salubrious and Saphir Du Rheu.

Saturday's Red Mills Chase hero Argocat will skip the Cheltenham Festival and instead head straight for the Betfred Bowl at Aintree in April. ![http://e2.365dm.com/13/02/768x576/TomTaaffe-2009-_2907034.jpg?20130227144706](http://e2.365dm.com/13/02/768x576/TomTaaffe-2009-_2907034.jpg?20130227144706) Tom Taaffe: Waiting for Aintree Tom Taaffe's six-year-old was set to play a leading role in the Powers Irish Whiskey Chase at Down Royal in November until tipping up at the final fence and was then sidelined for over two months. He was unable to land a blow when he returned in the Kinloch Brae Chase at Thurles in mid-January, but bounced back to his best when getting the better of the Willie Mullins-trained Turban at Gowran Park last weekend. Taaffe said: "He goes for the Bowl in Aintree, all being well. "Cheltenham is going to be a bit too close, considering the way the ground was the other day, so we'll look forward to Aintree with him. I think that race will suit. "We were quietly confident going to Gowran. He had the form in the book from when he fell at the last in Down Royal. He broke three ribs that day and it has taken a while to get him back, but thankfully he has come back right and he was good the other day. "I think he deserves to take his chance at Aintree, so we'll see what happens."

A SECOND trainer is alleged to be facing charges over the possession of prohibited substances including anabolic steroids.
It emerged on Wednesday morning that Cheltenham Festival and Irish Grand National-winning trainer Pat Hughes is due in court in May after substances, allegedly including Stanozol, were found at his stable in County Carlow.
The news comes just two days after it was revealed Philip Fenton, the trainer of Gold Cup hope Last Instalment, will appear in court on Thursday charged with possession of two anabolic steroids as well as a number of antibiotics without prescription.
According to The Telegraph, Hughes appeared in Carlow District Court on February 13 on eight charges of possession of banned animal remedies, including the anabolic steroid Stanozol. The case was adjourned until May 8.
Like Fenton, the case is allegedly being brought by the Ministry of Agriculture, who paid a visit to the trainer's yard on February 2 2012.
Quoted by The Telegraph, Hughes said: "They have nothing to go on. I don't know whether they've called it off completely or not."
Denis Egan, the chief executive of the Irish Turf Club, said: "We are aware that Pat Hughes has appeared in court. It is on our radar." ================================================== Moore the merrier Ryan Moore rides in public for the first time this year when taking two rides at Kempton this evening. 14:20 Wednesday 19th February Racing Tips - 19/02/2014
A cracking litle novice chase sees stalwart course and distance performer Victor Hewgo with a big chance this afternoon. He has a penalty to contend with but an 8 length win last time was visually impressive enough to suggest he can win again in this tougher contest. He certainly looks a bigger threat to the favourite than Top Of The Range but the Henderson yard won this last year and has to be feared. All in all though I think Holywell should be evens favourite for this and should be sided with at 11/8. He isn't giving any weight to his closest rivals and should put them to bed on his hurdles form. Chasing has taken a little while to get used to but his Catterick win against no slouch in Shotavodka last time was pretty comfortable and a step back up to 3 miles will see him to even better effect. A tactical affair wouldn't be ideal but it's not as if any of them are likely to be suited by a sprint off a crawl and Holywell's class and potential should prevail. Doncaster 14.20 - Holywell 3pt win
The veterans' contest is interesting purely for the fact that it sees some seriously classy performers and potentially 9 of the 11 could win this. It's probably wise to avoid those that need a return to form as there are enough on show who bring some decent recent efforts into this, though the Time For Rupert of old would take some stopping. Fruity O'Rooney usually ensures a proper test and, as much as I like Big Fella Thanks and Tranquil Sea, I worry about their stamina a little. Mr Syntax getting the nod is not an obvious one in a race such as this as he technically needs a career best at the age of 10. He's not overly raced though and his effort over course and distance last time, a first try at 3 miles, was a big improvement on what he'd shown in 2 hurdles starts this season. He's up in class and 1lb out of the handicap but is carrying a stone less on his back this afternoon compared to last month and a repeat of that sort of time would put him in the mix. Brian Harding has won on him before and he's yet to finish out of the top 3 here. A place may be the best he can hope for again but 16/1 reflects that and is worth taking. Doncaster 15.25 - Mr Syntax 1pt e/w
A couple make appeal for the stayers handicap hurdle. Seventh Sign is the one at a decent 16/1 who is very well treated on the basis of his novice form. He beat Kilmurvy, a solid mid 120's performer and was a good 2nd to Southfileld Theatre (140's) the time before that so a mark of 127 looks fair enough. That's 5lb below his opening handicap mark where he shaped as though 3 miles would suit. 2 poor runs since have coincided with the yard's poor end to November and entire December so he's worth a pop with the King winners flowing again. I'll be surprised if Matthew Riley wasn't too good though and he's worth backing at 5/1. His novice form makes a mockery of a mark of 126 and he went very close last time at Haydock. An extra half furlong at this stiffer track should suit and he will win before too long. Kaysersberg is also very interesting under a penalty for his impressive course and distance win last time, whilst both Canuspotit and Make Me A Fortune could be on handy marks. Doncaster 15.55 - Seventh Sign 1pt e/w Doncaster 15.55 - Matthew Riley 1pt win
I'm a sucker for a quirky type and Who's Jeff could spell disaster this afternoon at Ludlow. He is by Westerner and seemed to travel ok in the ground last time so the going should be no problem. If he pulls as hard as he has done in the past though then he may not see out the step up from 2 miles. Philip Hobbs is still flying and this 6 year should be plenty better than a mark of 101 when he finally gets his act together so 9/1 is interesting. The likes of Annaluna and Captain Cardington will still take them along at a reasonable pace so Who's Jeff can hopefully get some cover and have a chance of settling and, to be fair, he looked a lot better last time but was hampered early on. A safer option is Still Believing who put in a good effort over course and distance last time and she'll prefer a stronger pace today. Travelling well at the back of the field before looking outpaced as the front 2 kicked for home, she stayed on nicely and returns off the same mark. We know she stays and at 15/2 she has stronger claims than a few ahead of her in the market. Ludlow 14.40 - Still Believing 1pt e/w
So you go through a race, pick out 2 that you think should head the market, and find 1 at 6/4 and the other at 10/1. That means Moulin De La Croix should be supported, even if he hasn't won in 16 months and 10 starts. 2 of his 4 career wins have come on heavy ground and he showed up best for some time when looking the likely winner at Fontwell 2 months back. He was hampered at the last and very tired but a drop back in trip, plus some time off, should help. He's gone well before after a similar break and his mark is 11lb lower than his last win. Front running tactics used to be employed and he will want a proper test this afternoon as this is his shortest trip for a while but Riddleofthesands and Lucky Sunny can help with that. The latter should be favourite and drops in class form last time. He'll probably win but I'm not sure he should be so short with a tendency to jump left and a chance he could burn himself out if taken on for the lead. Think Its All Over has a chance but his sire is yet to produce a soft or heavy ground winner and that must be a concern. Ludlow 15.15 - Moulin De La Croix 1pt e/w ============================================

The Irish Turf Club are "watching with interest" as Pat Hughes was named as a second trainer facing court charges related to the possession of substances contrary to regulations. Hughes appeared in Carlow District Court on February 13 on eight charges of possession of animal remedies following an inspection at the Irish Grand National-winning trainer's Fenniscourt yard in February 2012. The case was adjourned until May 8. When contacted, Hughes said: "I have no comment at all." Fellow handler Philip Fenton is due to appear at Carrick-on-Suir District Court on Thursday charged with similar offences in a case brought by the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The department confirmed it is also responsible for the case against Hughes, who is accused of having eight different substances in his possession. A statement read: "The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine confirms that a hearing is scheduled for May 8, 2014 . "Charges are being brought under the Animal Remedies legislation alleging offences relating to possession of animal remedies. "A person who commits one of the offences listed above is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding €5,000 or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months or to both."

Robbie Hennessy is eyeing a trip to the Cheltenham Festival and a crack at the Grand National ahead of Rubi Light's attempt to get his season back on track at Clonmel. ![http://e1.365dm.com/13/10/640/RubiLight_3015971.jpg?20131008102137](http://e1.365dm.com/13/10/640/RubiLight_3015971.jpg?20131008102137) Rubi Light: Clonmel hopeful The Grade One-winning chaser performed creditably when third behind old rival Sizing Europe on his seasonal return at Gowran Park, but was unable to trouble Arvika Ligeonniere in either the Clonmel Oil Chase or the John Durkan Memorial at Punchestown. He was even more disappointing in the Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown's Christmas meeting, but the trainer is hoping a subsequent operation will turn around his stable star's fortunes. The nine-year-old returns to the smaller obstacles for the first time in almost four years in Thursday's Munster Hurdle. "He had an operation on his palate last month and we are hoping that will make a difference," said Hennessy. "He seems to be working well at the moment, it's a long time since he ran over hurdles but we're hoping it will help him get his confidence back. "He burst a blood vessel the last day, which we put down to him displacing his palate, so hopefully that's rectified now. "He looks well-in over hurdles, so we're hoping he'll run well and we'll make a plan from there. "If he runs a nice race, it would be nice to go to Cheltenham for the Ryanair (Chase) Rubi Light will be partnered by Andrew Lynch when he faces five opponents in Clonmel's two-and-a-half-mile opener. The Christy Roche-trained Indian File and Colm Murphy's The Westener Boy both carry the colours of leading owner JP McManus, while champion trainer Willie Mullins saddles Perfect Gentleman. Late Night Deed and Our Katie complete the line-up.

Nick Williams' Le Rocher is his sole entry in the JCB Triumph Hurdle with 45 remaining in the race at the latest forfeit stage. ![http://e2.365dm.com/14/01/768x576/Le-Rocher-Vicenzo-Mio_3072333.jpg?20140125130151](http://e2.365dm.com/14/01/768x576/Le-Rocher-Vicenzo-Mio_3072333.jpg?20140125130151) Le Rocher: JCB Triumph Hurdle hopeful Stablemate Fox Norton, a Grade 2 winner at Doncaster from subsequent Musselburgh victor Broughton, was one of 20 horses scratched from the race on Wednesday. Impressive Trials Day winner Le Rocher is among the 45 along with Broughton, while other well-fancied entries such as Calipto, Guitar Pete and Pearl Castle stand their ground. Dessie Hughes' Guitar Pete heads 18 Irish-trained entries, with Gigginstown Stud responsible for four of them; the Gordon Elliott-trained trio Clarcam, Halling's Treasure and Tiger Roll, and Noel Meade's Powder Hound. Willie Mullins has six entries headed by Susannah Ricci's Adriana Des Mottes and Andrea and Graham Wylie's Ivan Grozny. Aidan O'Brien's Plinth also remains in the entries despite being beaten, along with Ivan Grozny, by Guitar Pete at Leopardstown. The Brock Again, trained by Yannick Fouin, is the one entry from France. Along with Calipto, Paul Nicholls has Alcala - an intended starter at Kempton this weekend - for the Wylies, Nicky Henderson has Kentucky Hyden and Royal Irish Hussar (Fred Winter hopeful Dawalan scratched), David Pipe has Azza and Jonjo O'Neill has Goodwood Mirage. John Quinn has four entries - Pearl Castle, Aurore d'Estruval, Forced Family Fun and the unbeaten Rutherglen. Harry Fry's Activial, second to Calipto on debut at Newbury, is in there, along with the Alan King-trained pair of Chocola and Duroble Man. There are five horses yet to make their hurdling debuts in the contest: Agreement, Amoruccio, Cherry Tiger, Streak and Sunblazer. Le Rocher heads the betting with Sky Bet at 6/1, ahead of Calipto (7/1) and Guitar Pete (9/1).

They interviewed the trainer who stated that the gelding settled today, in its first run over hurdles, having previously been running too freely in headgear. 14:10 Thursday 20th February Racing Tips - 20/02/2014
The Huntingdon opener is a tricky little affair and all runners have claims but I think Winged Crusader should be favourite. The fact that he sits around 3rd in the market at 4/1 means he's a decent price. He's never been closer than 25 lengths behind the winner in 3 hurdles starts but this looks far more realistic on handicap bow off a mark of 101. The likes of Mountain Tunes and Vieux Lion Rouge are smart performers and this will be a great deal easier. Bold Adventure has every right to win this off 2lb lower than when narrowly defeated at Leicester but the selection is less exposed and could be a great deal better than this company. Epic Storm is the one at a bigger price who could run well but he needs a big improvement on his handicap debut last time. Huntingdon 14.10 - Winged Crusader 1pt win
The next at Huntingdon is another tight one that looks to be between the top 4 in the betting. Of them, I think Trojan Sun wants a proper test and am not sure he'll get it this afternoon. He is 3lb worse off with Hollow Blue Sky from their recent run and this trip should suit the latter that little better. Lord Of The Dunes is entitled to be fancied but still has to prove he stays, for all this track and running of the race should suit him, and the slightly sentimental vote goes to Gentle Bob who made a pleasing return to the track a month ago after nearly 2 years off. He was in great form before that absence and has won off this mark before. There's every chance he can control this from the front, though 4/1 is probably as short as you'd want to go. Some overnight rain will be no bad thing and he should be sharpened up after that recent outing. Huntingdon 14.40 - Gentle Bob 1pt win
Gwladys Street pops on a first time visor at Sedgefield this afternoon but it's really the return to this track which makes him a good bet at 6/1. He is 2 form 2 at the trip here over hurdles and has been placed on 3 other starts here. Now 6lb lower than his last hurdles win and with the yard having sent out a couple of recent 2nds and a December and January winner, he finally looks worth backing. He is a bit of a plodder and I've been waiting for a return to this sort of trip to see him most effective. In truth, this is one of the harder assignments he's had of late given a couple of others in good form. Arc Warrior looks a healthy price at 11/4 given the turnaround in his fortunes and William Amos has worked wonders with him. Snuker has disappointed of late but he could be a good bet back on deep ground and the McCain horse is progressive, though he is up in class. You can't beat course and distance form though and the visor may just add that extra improvement needed for Gwladys Street. Sedgefield 16.00 - Gwladys Street 1pt e/w ===============================================

THE TULLOW TANK will miss next month's Cheltenham Festival after owner Barry Connell took the dramatic decision not to run his star novice in the aftermath of Thursday's adjournment of Philip Fenton's court hearing for possession of anabolic steroids.
The Tullow Tank, twice a Grade 1 winner this season and as short as 8-1 third favourite for the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle, will not run again until the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine's case against Fenton comes to a conclusion, Connell said.
He said: "In light of the uncertainty surrounding the deferral of legal proceedings against Philip Fenton, I have decided that neither of my two horses in training with Philip, The Tullow Tank and Volvalien, will run in any races until the matter is dealt with. In the meantime both horses will remain in training with Philip as usual."
Volvalien, twice placed in Leopardstown bumper contests, could have run in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham.
At a hearing at Carrick-on-Suir District Court, County Tipperary, on Thursday judge Terence Finn agreed to a delay proposed by Fenton's representative, adjourning the case until March 20 to allow the defence to prepare submissions.
John Ryan, junior counsel, acting on behalf of the Minster of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, said he was in court seeking a hearing date and had 12 to 15 witnesses.
Fenton, trainer of Last Instalment and Dunguib, is charged with being in possession of prohibited substances, including anabolic steroids, when his yard was visited by Department of Agriculture officials in January 2012.
In a statement the BHA said they lacked information about the charges against Fenton.
"We are in contact with the Irish Turf Club with a view to gathering as much information as is currently available," the statement said.
"It would be inappropriate to comment further or to speculate about this issue until we are in possession of the relevant facts." =========================================== Mammoth 1,038 entries for Cheltenham Festival handicaps A TOTAL of 1,038 entries have been made for the 11 handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival. ================================================= Fenton case adjourned The Philip Fenton steroids hearing has been adjourned to March 20. ==================================================

Bury Parade headed the weights as the declarations for Saturday's BetBright Chase were announced. ![http://e2.365dm.com/13/11/768x576/buryparade-full_3030442.jpg?20131104154138](http://e2.365dm.com/13/11/768x576/buryparade-full_3030442.jpg?20131104154138) Bury Parade: Headed the declarations for the Betbright Chase Paul Nicholls' eight-year-old was a convincing winner at Ascot last time out and he will be shouldering top-weight in the Grade 3 contest at Kempton. Noel Fehily is to retain his partnership as the champion trainer also heads into the race with Grandioso (Daryl Jacob) and Jump City (Harry Derham). Alan King is doubly represented with Midnight Appeal and Bless The Wings, while Philip Hobbs, who won the race in 2011 with Quinz, will rely upon Planet Of Sound on this occasion. Tom George enjoyed success with Nacarat in 2012 and the Slad handler sends out What's Happening in this season's renewal. Ardkilly Express, Bally Legend, Niceonefrankie, Standing Ovation, Baile Anrai and Tours Des Champs complete the list of intended runners. The Nicky Henderson-trained Rajdhani Express was the only withdrawal from the race at the final declaration stage.

Trainer Jonjo O'Neill is leaning towards running Taquin Du Seuil in the JLT Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. ![http://e0.365dm.com/13/10/768x576/taquin-du-seuil-le-bec-full_3019402.jpg?20131015160958](http://e0.365dm.com/13/10/768x576/taquin-du-seuil-le-bec-full_3019402.jpg?20131015160958) Taquin De Seuil (left): Connections considering options The seven-year-old has won three of his five races over fences but was found wanting when dropped in trip in the two-mile Henry VIII Novices' Stakes at Sandown in early December. Taquin Du Seuil went down narrowly to Oscar Whisky at Cheltenham in the Dipper Novices' Chase on New Year's Day before winning an uncompetitive race at Haydock after his main market rival pulled up. He still holds an entry in the RSA Chase but O'Neill feels that would be a big ask over the three-mile trip for the first time. "It's not been finally decided yet, but if it was left to me it would be the JLT," said the Jackdaws Castle handler. "We think he'd get three miles but it would be very hard to run him over it first time when you're still a bit in the dark about it. "We were going to go for the Scilly Isles (Sandown) after he'd won at Haydock, just to get a bit more experience into him, but it looked a very good decision to give that a miss as the ground was desperate that day."
