The Stewards noted that the winner, EXAMINER (IRE), had interfered with ARMOURER (IRE), placed third, inside the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved EXAMINER (IRE)’s placing.

2.30, sixth race

The Stewards noted that MYSTERY BET (IRE), unplaced, had interfered with SOUL INTENT (IRE), placed fourth, inside the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

3.00, seventh race

The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference shortly after the start. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that IMPERATOR AUGUSTUS (IRE), unplaced, ridden by JACK GARRITTY, had interfered with WELL PAINTED (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Stephanie Joannides. The Stewards found Garritty in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he had manoeuvred left to the rail when not clear. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 December 2013.

The Stewards noted that the winner, SCOTTISH GLEN, had interfered with SOARING SPIRITS (IRE), placed third, on the run to the line, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved SCOTTISH GLEN’s placing.

3.30, eighth race

The Stewards noted that ASSEMBLY, unplaced, had interfered with SHAWKANTANGO, unplaced, inside the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

The Stewards noted that BRUNELLO, placed second, had interfered with the winner, JACK ALBERT (IRE), approaching the final hurdle, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

1.45, fourth race

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, LUCTOR EMERGO (IRE), ridden by Wilson Renwick and trained by Keith Dalgleish, compared with its previous run at Hexham on 20 November 2013 where the gelding was pulled up. They noted the explanation of the trainer’s representative that LUCTOR EMERGO (IRE) had jumped better on this occasion and had benefited from its previous outing, following a seven month lay off.

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the circumstances surrounding the late withdrawal of JAWAAB (IRE), trained by Philip Kirby. They noted his explanation that in his opinion the gelding would have been unsuited by the going which was good, good to soft in places.

3.20, seventh race

The Stewards noted that FEV ROVER (IRE), unplaced, had interfered with NEVILLE WOODS, unplaced, who in turn interfered with LORD FENDALE (IRE), unplaced, on the bend turning into the straight, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that POWERFUL PIERRE, unplaced, ridden by Jacob Butterfield, had interfered with MOUNT HOLLOW, unplaced, ridden by Jack Duern. The Stewards found Butterfield in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed the gelding to drift right. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.

A potentially mouthwatering clash between Sprinter Sacre and Sire De Grugy in the William Hill Desert Orchid Chase at the end of this month could see the race added to the Boxing Day programme at Kempton Park.


Sprinter Sacre: 'Travesty' if he wasn't on Channel 4?




The Grade Two contest, staged at Kempton since 2006 having previously been run as the Castleford Chase at Wetherby, appears increasingly set to feature a match-up between the most famous steeplechaser in training and the horse who has a legitmate claim to be considered the most likely horse to end Sprinter Sacre's unbeaten record over fences in the light of his impressive Tingle Creek Chase victory at Sandon on Saturday.

Kempton clerk of the course Barney Clifford admitted to already having researched the difference that Sprinter Sacre's presence had made to attendance figures at Punchestown in April and said he hoped that the super steeplechaser could put an additional crowd of 3,000 on the gate.

However, the equation is complicated as to whether the two-mile race could be moved, as racecourse general manager Phil White told Sportinglife.com.

"If Channel Four are able to provide coverage, our first choice would obviously be for him to run on the 27th," he said.

"We've invested more in prize-money in the second day of the meeting and this would be a brilliant way to cement it as a Festival meeting.

"If that can't happen, I'd say that at this stage we're open-minded.

"One of the things we would need to look at if we did move the race to the Boxing Day card would be what we could switch to the 27th to balance the cards out - it's a two-day Festival and that's a message we really want to get across, but we would need to look at what was right for us, for our racegoers and for racing overall.

"There's some way to go before we make any decisions."

Channel 4 Racing presenter Nick Luck also said that if it did not prove possible to show racing from Kempton on the 27th, he'd be in favour of including the race on the Boxing Day programme.

"Editorially, I think there is a very strong case for it," he said. "We've just spent the weekend hailing Sire De Grugy and this would give us a great opportunity to keep that story going by weighing him up against Sprinter Sacre.

"We are already broadcasting on Boxing Day, on the Saturday with the Challow Hurdle from Newbury and the Welsh National at Chepstow, and then again on New Year's Day at Cheltenham and Musselburgh.

"Of course, it's a decision that is going to need a lot of discussion and it will be up to the sponsors, to the racecourse, to Racecourse Media Group, the British Horseracing Authority all to be happy with whatever is decided."

William Hill PR director Kate Miller described the prospect of the race not being available to the biggest possible audience as "a travesty".

"He is the highest-profile horse in racing and any race in which he is involved should be seen by the most people possible," she said.

There of course remains a risk that changes made to the race programme will ultimately prove a waste of time if Sprinter Sacre fails to line up, but trainer Nicky Henderson's assistant Charlie Morlock on Monday said that the seven-year-old's participation appeared increasingly likely despite a dirty tracheal wash forcing him to miss the first possible clash with Sire De Grugy in the Tingle Creek.

"The Kempton race would be ideal," he said. "It was only a little problem that he had, no more than a snuffly nose.

"Obviously last week we couldn't treat it when we thought he might still run, other than giving him plenty of fresh air, but now he's receiving treatment.

"He is sort of public property now and while we could maybe have run, if we'd taken a risk and run and it hadn't paid off, we'd have looked very silly.

"Timewise Kempton looks just right for him now."

Morlock said that the suggestion that Sprinter Sacre had been a little slow to come to hand this season until picking up speed and impressing in the last couple of weeks was "a fair assessment".

"His work most recently had been magnificent and we were all devastated when he didn't run," Morlock went on.

"He was ticking over, doing what we'd wanted him to without really doing anything more, but then he really started to fly.

"I think he'll be fine for Kempton. He's not the sort of horse who will take a huge lot out of himself."

Johns Spirit, Colour Squadron and Attaglance, first second and fourth in the Paddy Power Gold Cup, are all on target to clash again in Saturday's The Stewart Family Thank You Gold Cup back at Cheltenham.

The trio are among 18 six-day acceptors for the contest and the front two from November currently head the betting market with Jonjo O'Neill confirming that the race was very much the target for Johns Spirit who will attempt to emulate former stablemate Exotic Dancer in completing the double.

"He's gone up 9lb but this is the obvious race for him. He is in grand form and I hope he can handle the rise. The plan is definitely to run him," O'Neill told The Times.

Interesting rivals include Cantlow, who like Colour Squadron is owned by JP McManus, and Venetia Williams' impressive Sandown winner Kapga De Cerisy.

Salut Flo is David Pipe's sole entry at this stage while champion trainer Nicky Henderson, who took out Trio D'Alene and Kid Cassidy, relies on Ma Filleule.

Paul Nicholls may be without last year's winner Unioniste but still has an interesting contender in Grandioso.

Available at 16/1 in places at the start of play on Monday, the Graham Wylie-owned runner was well backed before the declaration stage and is now Sky Bet's 8/1 third-favourite behind market-leaders Colour Squadron and John's Spirit.

Nicholls commented: "He's a second-season chaser, but you could hardly say he's under-exposed having won the Pendil Chase and I wasn't sure how well-handicapped he was at the start of the season off 145.

"But having said that I was really pleased with the way he ran on his reappearance at Newbury when he jumped and travelled well and just blew up two out because he needed the run.

"It's never an easy race but I'd like to think he's going there with a decent chance."

The weights are set to be headed by Champion Court who was strongly fancied for the Paddy Power Gold Cup but could finish only seventh behind Johns Spirit, but Thursday's Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon is under consideration as an alternative target.

Noble Prince could return to the scene of his greatest triumph but trainer Paul Nolan is uncertain as to what to expect.

His nine-year-old enjoyed Festival glory when landing the Jewson Novices' Chase in 2011, but was pulled up in last year's Ryanair Chase and the following campaign was bitterly disappointing.

However, he has shown signs of a revival in the early stages of this season, running well for a long way at Punchestown before a confidence-boosting victory in the John Meagher Memorial Chase at Thurles last month.

Noble Prince holds an entry in the Betfred Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon on Thursday, but is likely to instead head to Prestbury Park this weekend. Nolan said: "We've haven't totally made up our minds, but I'm 90 per cent sure he'll go to Cheltenham.

"Everything has gone well since Thurles, but it was difficult to know what to make of that run. The two horses he beat, Realt Dubh and Fosters Cross, haven't run well since.

"It's not easy to assess where he is. I thought 9lb was a high enough rise for winning that race, he's up to 154 again now, but he seems to be coming back to himself.

"We hope he's back to a reasonable standard, but that remains to be seen. You'd like to be going over with more confidence, if his last run had worked out that bit better, but it hasn't and it's not an easy call. We'll see what happens on Saturday. We're happy with the horse."

Hurricane Fly made more history as he was awarded the prestigious title of Racehorse of the Year at the 11th annual Horse Racing Ireland awards at a glittering ceremony at Leopardstown racecourse.

The Willie Mullins-trained nine-year-old became the first horse to win the award twice.

Last month, the son of Montjeu galloped to a world record of 17 Grade One wins with victory in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown on a day that saw Ruby Walsh ride a five-timer and Mullins saddle seven winners at two meetings.

Mullins' brilliant hurdler overtook Paul Nicholls' outstanding chaser Kauto Star and legendary American Flat performer John Henry as the winning-most horse at the highest level with his eighth course and distance win.

He went through last season unbeaten in five Grade One hurdles and in doing so regained his Champion Hurdle crown at Cheltenham.

Hurricane Fly saw off strong competition, with the other nominees being Dawn Approach, Declaration Of War, Magician, Quevega and Sir Des Champs.

Mullins, 57, received the National Hunt honour after saddling an incredible 193 winners in Ireland last season, comfortably beating the previous best of 155.

Mullins, already closing in on his fastest ever century, was unable to be present as he has been supervising Simenon in Hong Kong.

His award was accepted by his mother, Maureen.

Johnny Murtagh capped a year to remember when named the recipient of the Flat Award.

Long regarded as one of the world's elite jockeys, the popular Murtagh now has a dual role as he trains from his base on the Curragh, having his first runner in the role through the Sheikh Mohammed-owned Fort Knox in the Irish 2,000 Guineas.

Murtagh rode 30 winners in Ireland from just 125 rides, and was responsible for 15 winners as a trainer.

Royal Diamond served him well in the colours of major backer Andrew Tinkler, and the emotion was there for all to see when the gelding landed the Long Distance Cup at the British Champions meeting at Ascot in October.

Murtagh's talents remain very much in demand for the big races, as witnessed by the fact he claimed five individual Group One winners last season, including the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes in tremendous style on Novellist for German trainer Andreas Wohler.

Murtagh said: "It's a huge honour and I'm privileged to be here. When you look at the other people in this category I really wan't expecting to win.

"I'm in a wonderful position, I'm training some nice horses and riding some really good ones again and they are winning."

Kildare jockey Barry Cash collected the Outstanding Achievement Award, which was open to a public vote for the first time, while Wexford native Jamie Codd received his first Point-To-Point Award.

Racecourse of the Year Award went to Dundalk Stadium. Revealing the track would not be resting on its laurels, chief executive Jim Martin said: "We are hoping to build the world's first floodlit jumps track, that's what our dream is."

In addition to the six main categories, HRI presented Jim Bolger with the Contribution to Industry Award.

The front-running PUTIN (Southwell, nb, 3.00) is partnered by Paddy Aspell and the Irish rider has enjoyed some success from the front at this venue this winter.

The five-year-old runs on the Fibresand for the 24th time in the seven-furlong handicap and, although he doesn’t enjoy a prolific record at the trip, the race looks tailor made for him to dominate.

SHARAARAH (Southwell, 2.00) is another that relishes the surface and his sire, Oasis Dream, has a strike rate of more than 14 per cent with his horses on the Fibresand.

Trainer David O’Meara was quick to identify that his three-year-old may enjoy Southwell and has exploited the stats by sending his gelding to oblige twice at the track, latterly in a strong time with plenty in hand.

The selection has major claims again, but with Even Stevens (6-8 at Southwell), Sleepy Blue Ocean (4-13), Clubland (2-5) and Cheveton and Equitania others to score at the Nottinghamshire course, confidence can’t be high.

Ruby Walsh is keen to see Arvika Ligeonniere drop back in trip over Christmas after his effortless victory in the John Durkan Chase on Sunday.

Apart from a fall in the Irish Arkle and a lifeless run at Cheltenham in March, the imposing eight-year-old has won all his six other starts over fences.

His task on Sunday was made much easier when stablemate Sir Des Champs fell early and speaking in his www.racinguk.com blog, Walsh also gave a clean bill of health to the Gold Cup runner-up.

"Sir Des Champs was fine on Monday morning and there is not a bother on him after his fall in the John Durkan - Davy Russell was a bit shaken up and he knew he had had the fall but he was OK," said Walsh.

"Arvika Ligeonniere, the winner, seems to be more comfortable going right-handed, but he jumps very straight. We didn't even know there was an issue with him until Leopardstown last year.

"We haven't had as much rain in Ireland as in England and although he goes in heavy, for a big horse he has a really good action and drying ground doesn't seem to bother him.

"The race was around eight seconds quicker than the novice chase won by Bright New Dawn so it wasn't a complete farce of a race.

"Arvika is not in the King George, but is in the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown on the 27th and I'd be all for him going back in trip.

"He was fifth in an Albert Bartlett and he is a bit older now so perhaps he will get three miles, should Willie Mullins decide to step him up.

"He's going the right way to achieve big things."

Another stablemate booked for big things is the novice hurdler Faugheen, who notched up his second win over timber at Navan on Saturday.

"Faugheen was a bit clumsy at the third last but he did jump better than he did at Punchestown when winning at Navan," said Walsh.

"He has a really big engine, and has pace and stamina. He is a big horse, with a big future. He hasn't been extended yet and has earned himself a step up in grade now."

Former Champion Hurdle winner Binocular has been retired due to a heart issue.

While his success in the 2010 Cheltenham highlight was the gelding's finest hour, he scored 11 times in total over timber and collected Kempton's Christmas Hurdle on two occasions as well as a Grade One juvenile event at Aintree and the International when it was rescheduled at Ascot in 2008.

In a career which was not completed without a hitch, Binocular only appeared twice last season and ran his last race back in the Champion Hurdle when only fifth to Hurricane Fly.



"He has been retired - he had a little heart complaint," said Frank Berry, racing manager to owner JP McManus.

A switch to the New Course for this weekend's Stewart Family Thank You Gold Cup at Cheltenham is likely to be a positive for Attaglance, according to trainer Malcolm Jefferson.

The seven-year-old was fourth, beaten six lengths by Johns Spirit, in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last month which is run on the slightly less-taxing Old Course.

As a result Jefferson is hopeful of getting closer to the Jonjo O'Neill-trained Johns Spirit, who is bidding to become just the fourth horse to win both races in the same season.



Attaglance also holds an entry at Doncaster over three miles, but Jefferson said: "If the weather forecast is right he'll be off to Cheltenham, one race is worth £100,000 and one is worth £20,000. We put him in at Donny just in case it is soft at Cheltenham.

"Technically he'll be running off the same mark as in the Paddy Power as he was 6lb wrong that day and has gone up 6lb.

"I think the ground will be even better for him this weekend as they wouldn't have watered this track like they had done the Old Course earlier in the season. This time we're on the New Course and it might suit him more."

Frank Berry, racing manager to owner JP McManus, expects all three of their confirmed entries - Colour Squadron, Cantlow and Tap Night - will run.

The former was a strong-finishing second to Johns Spirit last month, having not been helped when hampered by the falling Easter Meteor two out, and heads the ante-post market at 5/1 with Paddy Power.

Berry said: "Colour Squadron has come out of the Paddy Power very well and Philip (Hobbs, trainer) is quite happy with him and we're hoping for a good run.

"I wouldn't have thought he lost six lengths in the Paddy Power and that may be a bit overboard. He was interfered with but not a lot, although these things happen in racing and he ran very well.

"I've no idea if Tony McCoy will be on Colour Squadron and he could opt for any of them - he'll probably only make up his mind just before declarations time.

Cantlow, a 10/1 chance with the Irish firm, won his last start at Newbury at the end of November, while Tap Night, who is available 20/1, was eighth in the Paddy Power.

Berry said: "Tap Night ran OK in the Paddy Power but was found wanting. He just lacks a bit of experience, but hopefully he will improve with the experience."

THE founder and former owner of Great Leighs racecourse was on Tuesday night one of three people being questioned by HM Revenue and Customs criminal investigators on suspicion of being involved in an estimated £2.4 million VAT fraud connected to the horseracing industry.

John Holmes and his partner Jill Turner were understood to be two of the three people arrested in raids on residential addresses near Braintree in Essex and High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. Two business premises were also searched.

HMRC declined to divulge the names of those arrested but said one man, aged 63, and a 50-year-old woman were arrested at their home near Braintree and a second man, aged 64, was arrested at an address in High Wycombe early yesterday.

A statement from HMRC said they were being questioned in relation to suspected fraud by "false representation, cheating the public revenue and money laundering".

The BHA said: "We have been informed of the arrests. We understand that none of the individuals involved is a licensed person. This is a matter for HMRC."

Racing Tips - 11/12/2013

The London Middle Distance Series Final serves up a big prize money treat at Kemtpon today. The usual pace suspects from a course and distance contest last month are back and should ensure a decent gallop, though I don't think it will be fierce. Had it been hell for leather up front I'd have put Lowther up but, as with last time, he may do his best work a little too late on (though he's the pick of those from that c&d contest). Spifer loves it here but, opposite to Lowther, I don't think he wants it too quick at all and he was fading at the very business end last time having showed blistering speed to get into contention from the back fo the field. The one I do like is oldish boy but lightly raced Troopingthecolour at 8/1. His course and distance win last time came after 401 days off and he looked better than ever in recording a somewhat comfortable victory in a very good time. He has pace and stamina on his side, has doubled up before, and a 5lb penalty may not be enough to stop him. The form looks good from last time and, although this is dramatically up in class, he is technically here with less on his back so a similar run on the clock he should see him go very close.
Kempton 18:40 - Troopingthecolour 1pt e/w

Most competitive of the Leicester contests comes at the end of the card and poor old Foxcub looks a solid bet at around 6/1. He is up 8lb for falling at the last at Wincanton when primed to score, the form of which has worked out well. The only concern is the ground with him as he is best on good and the soft in the official going description is not ideal. Fountains Flypast is still well treated on the bsis of his progressive form 2 years ago but the absence is a worry and best bet looks to be Zalgarry at 10/1. Still only 6, he has been tried at a variety of trips in 3 starts since coming over from France. Most encouraging has been the times he's produced, going very close on stable debut in a time faster than standard over 2 and a half miles. He struggled to see out 3 miles next time but was back on song latest when finishing well over a furlong and a half shorter than today on ground with a little cut in it. Up another 3lb, he needs to strat winning soon but has plenty in his favour for a jockey and trainer showing a level stajes profit together in the last few seasons. If another mystery Pipe import wins on UK debut (Garde Ville) I'm moving to France.
Leicester 15.10 - Zalgarry 1pt e/w

The all weather is throwing up some real midweek treats and it's prize money towers over that of the jumps from Monday to Thursday. Lingfield has another classy card this afternoon and the feature handicap should be run at a fierce pace. If So, placed over 7 furlongs, wants just that and probably wants to run over this trip at a more galloping track to be truly effective. However, she was just pipped by Addictive Dream here last time in a very fast time and has a 3lb pull this afternoon. She was 2nd to Forest Edge on penultimate start and has a 9lb pull this afternoon and, while perhaps not quite as progressive as that quadruple seeker, is certainly weighted to go very close at 19/2. The last 3 winners she has finished in behind have gone on to score again and her record here, as well as her trainer and jockey record here together, makes for very encouraging reading. The favourite is a worthy one and made the shortlist but this is too competitive to be siding with a 5/2 shot.

Tony McCoy will decide in the morning whether to partner Cantlow or Colour Squadron in Saturday's Stewart Family Thank You Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

The perennial champion jockey has the choice of owner JP McManus' three runners in the fiercely-competitive handicap, with Cantlow and Colour Squadron set to be joined by Tap Night.

McCoy partnered the latter to finish eighth in last month's Paddy Power Gold Cup and is set to get off him to ride either Paddy Power runner-up Colour Squadron or recent Newbury scorer Cantlow.

McCoy said: "It's a tough choice. I think Tap Night is probably a bit high in the handicap and it is probably going to be between Cantlow and Colour Squadron.

"You can make good cases for them both. Cantlow won at Newbury and comes into the race in good form.

"Colour Squadron doesn't win a lot and has flattered to deceive on occasions, but did run well in the Paddy Power.

"I'll have to decide in the morning before declaration time. I'll speak to the boss and go from there."

Eddie Lynam's globe-trotting sprinters Sole Power and Slade Power are set to follow the same programmes in 2014 as they did with great success this year.

Sole Power: More of the same



Both ended the current campaign in the Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin where they finished second and 10th respectively behind Lord Kanaloa on Sunday.

The Irish-trained duo, owned by Sabina Power, enjoyed a cracking 2013. Sole Power's highlight came with his second Group One triumph in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot while Slade Power won the Qipco British Champions Sprint at Ascot and was placed in the July Cup and Betfred Sprint Cup.




"They are fine and on their way home. No problems, all is good," said County Meath-based Lynam.

"Sole Power ran very well. The winner was very impressive, but we were proud of him. He ran another very good race and proved to anybody who didn't think he gets six furlongs that he does.

"Things didn't pan out for Slade Power. He broke slowly and was trapped out wide with no cover. We had a sneaking suspicion that might happen. On Sole Power's first trip over there (in December 2011) things didn't pan out for him either.

"It takes a bit of getting to know, but he's fine and it's onwards and upwards with him next year.

"For Sole Power, I'd say he'd be aimed at every race next year as he ran in this year.

"He'll go to Dubai, run in the trial (Meydan Sprint) and then in the Al Quoz, then he'll be aimed for the King's Stand and take in the July Cup after that.

"Slade Power will go for the trial race in Dubai and then the Golden Shaheen. Then he'll be aimed at the Golden Jubilee and the July Cup."

Christian Von Der Recke has opted to saddle Burgoyne instead of his more experienced stablemate Café Au Lait in the £20,000 JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The German handler is no stranger to success at Cheltenham, having captured the Grade Two JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial with Moneytrain on Festival Trials Day in 2003. He also annexed the Grade Two Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton Park with tearaway front-runner Fiepes Shuffle in 2008.






Burgoyne will be having his first start over hurdles following an impressive six-length success on the Flat at Mons Racecourse in Belgium on November 11. The three-year-old was formerly trained in Britain by Hughie Morrison and won a maiden at Southwell in March.

Café Au Lait, a winner on the Flat in Germany, finished six lengths behind Herod The Great on his hurdling debut at Warwick on November 6 and is more likely to contest the Grade Two Summit Juvenile Hurdle at Doncaster on the same afternoon.

Von Der Recke revealed: "Burgoyne will be making his hurdling debut, but every piece of work he has done has been as good as Café Au Lait. After their last piece of schooling I said if we are taking one over, we might as well take the other.

"I bought Burgoyne at Newmarket fairly cheaply (3,000 guineas) and as well as winning in England, he has won on the Flat in Germany and Belgium for me. He won very well last time and we are just working out how to ride him.

"He had three or four bad runs when he was laying up with the leaders early on, but at Cheltenham there is no need to do that and we can wait in last place and see what happens. I used similar tactics with Moneytrain when he won.

"Café Au Lait is more likely to go Doncaster because he wants a bit of cut in the ground and they have forecast rain in the north.

"I definitely expect him to improve from his run at Warwick because the ground was a bit slippery and he made a few mistakes, which didn't help his confidence. The winner is a nice horse and the horse who finished third had won a race, so it will be interesting to see how much Café Au Lait has improved.

"I think a strongly run race would suit him as well because he was keen and made mistakes at Warwick, which is not a good combination."

Also among the 13 entries for the JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial is French import Vicenzo Mio, facile Sandown scorer Kentucky Hyden, dual winner Dispour and Clarcam, who finished third behind Analifet at Fairyhouse on December 1.

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, THE BULL HAYES (IRE), ridden by Ryan Mahon and trained by Michael Appleby, compared with its previous run at Lingfield on 26 November 2013 where the gelding finished fifth of seven, beaten 43 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding was better suited by the drop in class. They ordered THE BULL HAYES (IRE) to be routine tested.

2.40, fifth race

The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference on the run to the line. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner THE LAST NIGHT (FR), ridden by Aidan Coleman, had interfered with FITANDPROPERJOB, placed second, ridden by James Banks. They found the interference was accidental and had not improved THE LAST NIGHT (FR)’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered.

1.20, second race

The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference after the fourth hurdle. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that ROMANY RYME, placed third, ridden by Jonathon Bewley, had interfered with GENEROUS CHIEF (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Wilson Renwick. The Stewards found Bewley in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he failed to take sufficient steps to prevent interference. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Friday 27 December 2013.

3.20, sixth race

The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Daragh Bourke, the rider of FOZY MOSS, placed second, from approaching the last fence. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Bourke for 4 days as follows: Friday 27, Sunday 29, Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 December 2013.

1.00, second race

The Stewards held an enquiry following an inspection which was held as a result of concerns expressed by the riders over visibility. They interviewed jockeys Jim Crowley, Martin Harley and Robert Winston, trainers Roger Ingram, James Toller and Mark Hoad, the Clerk of the Course and the Judge. Having considered their evidence the Stewards were satisfied that racing could continue.

The Stewards held an enquiry following an inspection which was held as a result of deteriorating visibility since the previous inspection after the second race, which had caused the third race to be postponed. They interviewed jockeys Jim Crowley, Martin Harley and Robert Winston, trainers Roger Ingram, James Toller and Jim Goldie, the Clerk of the Course and the Judge. Having considered their evidence the Stewards were satisfied that racing should be abandoned.

The Stewards held an enquiry following an inspection which was held as a result of fog. They interviewed Jockeys: George Baker, Robert Havlin, Stevie Donohoe and Shane Kelly; Trainers: Amy Weaver and George Baker; the Judge, the Veterinary Officer, the Medical Officer, the Veterinary Surgeon and the Clerk of the Course. Having considered their evidence the Stewards ordered racing to be delayed for one hour. Following a further enquiry with the above connections and officials, the Stewards ordered racing to be abandoned.

Racing Tips - 12/12/2013

I'm opposing Captain Cat tomorrow at Kempton, for all that he was a ready winner over course and distance last time. It wasn't the most impressive time and he has a fair bit more weight to carry this afternoon whilst unlikely to get an easy lead. This looks more likely to suit something racing a touch more patiently and Dixie's Dream, also a course and distance winner last time, should get a nice tow through and may have been underestimated at 13/2. He is way up in class but recorded a win in a good time 21 days ago and is only up 4lb for his troubles. He carries a reasonable weight on his back and has looked very progressive since switching to the all weather this winter. It's worth keeping an eye on String Theory who returns to the course and distance of his last win but does so with something to prove. Stasio has a similar profile but is far too short at 9/2 having been last on reappearance, though he was never allowed into the race.

Three strong fancies are all at a similar price for the Peterborough Chase but it may be worth giving another chance to Champion Court. He was way below par last time but the trainer intimated all was not well at his favoured Cheltenham and he was carrying a fair bit of weight. Back in Graded company but out of handicaps may be just what he needs and there should be more to come for this relatively lightly raced 8 year old, second in the Jewson to Sir Des Champs no less. He doesn't stay further than this but a truly run 2 miles 4 and a half furlongs on genuinely good ground, especially at a sharp track, makes him of real interest. He has won at Aintree before and gone well at Kempton so doesn't rely on Cheltenham's stiff finish to be at his best and is worth chancing on Huntingdon debut at 13/2. Module is the other of real interest but I worry about him on good ground at such a short price. If Riverside Theatre is back to his best then he wins but he has a bit to prove on reappearance. The only Grade 1 winner in the field, he isn't getting any better and Champion Court looks capable of another Grade 2 victory.

Lucy Alexander was taken to hospital after sustaining facial injuries in a fall at Newcastle on Thursday afternoon.

Alexander was hurt when unseated from Milano Magic, trained by her father, Nick, at the eighth fence in the North Sea Logistics Novices' Handicap Chase.

The leading lady jumps rider was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment.

"She was conscious when she left the course and the course doctor accompanied her to hospital in the ambulance," said clerk of the course James Armstrong.

"She had a nasty cut to the chin, so the primary concern was to get that sorted as soon as they could. Whether anything else comes to light in due course we shall have to see.

"With a cut like that it needs stitches and they will check her over as well. She was awake and lucid, but we don't know if she had been unconscious at all as the doctor was with her."

Tony McCoy is praying for rain at Ascot in the hope that At Fishers Cross can attempt to get his season back on track in the Wessex Youth Trust Long Walk Hurdle on Saturday week.

The Rebecca Curtis-trained six-year-old was unbeaten in six starts last season, signing off as the leading staying novice hurdler with victories at the Cheltenham Festival and at Aintree's Grand National meeting.

He was an odds-on favourite to make a winning return in last month's Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury, but came home a well beaten fourth after a serious mistake two flights from home cost him all chance of victory.

McCoy, who missed the ride at Newbury to partner My Tent Or Yours to victory in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle, is looking forward to renewing the partnership at Ascot, provided conditions are suitable.

"He wouldn't want the ground too quick, so hopefully Ascot get a bit of rain during the next week," said the champion jockey.





"He seems OK after Newbury, which is the main thing. It was a bad mistake and we'll try and get him back on track at Ascot.

"What happened at Newbury wasn't ideal, but he has lots of potential."

My Tent Or Yours is one of two possible Champion Hurdle contenders for McCoy and leading owner JP McManus, with Jezki also staking a claim with victory in the Hatton's Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse recently.

McCoy may have a difficult choice to make come March, but has no intention of comparing the two at this early stage of the season.

He said: "They probably have both got to improve to beat Hurricane Fly, but they are second-season novices and hopefully they will improve.

"The New One is there and Our Conor is in the mix as well, so it's an exciting Champion Hurdle picture at the moment that's for sure.

"As for which one is the better of our two, god only knows."

Grand National hero Auroras Encore is set to make his return to competitive action in the Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase at Wetherby.

The £40,000 William Hill-sponsored event is run over three miles, one furlong and is the highlight of Wetherby's two-day Yorkshire Winter Festival on Boxing Day, Thursday December 26.






Trained not far from the West Yorkshire venue by Sue Smith at Bingley, the 11-year-old has not been seen since pulling up in the Scottish Grand National at Ayr in April, just 14 days after his surprise success at Aintree.

Smith reports: "All being well, Auroras Encore will start off in the William Hill Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase.

"We had hoped to have him out earlier, but the ground went against us so we just left him be.

"He is in very good form at the moment though, but it will be his first run of the season and it's difficult to know what to expect."

The record of vaccinations in the passport of PRINCETON ROYALE (IRE), trained by Neil King, did not comply with the Rules of Racing. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Rule (E)18 and fined him £280, this being his second offence within 12 months.

The Stewards noted that the winner, BROTHER TEDD, had interfered with MINELLA PRESENT (IRE), placed third, two furlongs out, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved BROTHER TEDD’s placing.

The Stewards noted that PARADISE VALLEY (IRE), placed second, had interfered with the winner, BROTHER TEDD, on the run to the line, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

5.50, fifth race

The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Liam Keniry, the rider of MASTERPAVER, placed fourth, from 1½ furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Keniry for 2 days as follows: Thursday 26 and Friday 27 December 2013.

6.20, sixth race

The Stewards noted that MAVERIK, drawn 7, had anticipated the start and barged the gate at the same moment as the race had been started, thereby enabling the gelding to break quickly. Being satisfied that it was not caused through a faulty action of the starting stalls, they took no further action.

The Starter reported that GEORGE GURU, trained by Michael Atxxxxer, was reluctant to load. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
