Todays Betfair Chase at Haydock is one of the best non-Festival races we've had for years, and it's great that connections of all haven't shirked the challenge. Trying to solve it is trickier so we've left it to the Road to Cheltenham. Click on the link for the race preview.
Annie Power backers who took 15/8 when the Ascot Hurdle betting opened on Wednesday are giving themselves a nice pat on the back, as Willie Mullins's unbeaten mare is now 4/5 to beat Zarkandar in receipt of 11lbs. Paul Nicholls's 6yo is unbeaten when completing aside from two Champion Hurdles, so if he gets brushed aside tomorrow it might not be talk of the new Quevega, but the new Hurricane Fly.
Ascot organisers will hope Annie's presence can save interest in a card where the Amlin Chase has just three runners. Al Ferof is evens getting 4lbs from last year's winner Captain Chris, and with all the Gold Cup pretenders out at Haydock he may be the most interesting. We can only speculate whether Daryl Jacob was offered the chance to ride Silviniaco Conti at Haydock, but it isn't Zarkandar leading him to Ascot.

Our racing ambassador sends two of his stable stars - Silviniaco Conti and Tidal Bay - to what is widely being described as one of the best Gold Cup trials in recent memory. Read on for his exclusive thoughts on Saturday's showpiece at Haydock...
The first thing to say about the Betfair Chase is that it is simply an awesome race.
I've seen worse Gold Cups, and the fact that a horse such as Dynaste is Timeform's bottom-rated in the race, some 20lb below Bobs Worth and Cue Card, simply underlines just how tough it will be to win for my pair, Silviniaco Conti and Tidal Bay.
But they both go into the race with a fair bit of stable optimism behind them. I say optimism because I don't really think you can go into a race like this confident of victory - or at least be confident and say so beforehand, anyway!
We have the reigning Gold Cup and King George winner in here in the shape of Bobs Worth and Long Run respectively, Conti is bidding for back-to-back wins in this race, a Lexus winner in Tidal Bay, the nine-length Ryanair winner Cue Card, the recent 13-length JNwine Champion Chase winner at Down Royal, Roi Du Mee, the 2012 Gold Cup runner-up The Giant Bolster and a wide-margin Feltham and Aintree winner in Dynaste.
The race is only missing Sir Des Champs, and perhaps our Al Ferof and First Lieutenant, for it to have it all.
The reason why I mentioned Dynaste having so much to find on Timeform ratings is that I always thought that this, and the King George, would be the ideal races for him when watching him last season.
And I think the Pipe yard must think he is the business too, for him to be running in this company first time up, when they could have easily have taken in the Paddy Power instead. That told me that they think they have a realistic chance of winning this. And I agree.
The problem for us all is that you wouldn't really be that shocked if any of these won, with perhaps the exception of The Giant Bolster. And even that may be being a bit harsh on such a talented horse, who probably doesn't deserve to be a 50/1 chance in any company.
You can't have anything but the greatest respect for Bobs Worth. His record is phenomenal. And, while to me Cue Card looks a doubtful stayer, on the form he showed when winning the Ryanair, and up against Sprinter Sacre, you would be a fool to dismiss him.
I think that this will be a far stiffer test of stamina than many are predicting though, in spite of the track. Don't forget this is being run on the Flat course, which has been watered all summer, and the recent rain may have turned it pretty testing. This won't be an easy test stamina-wise.
And that is why we are running Tidal Bay here instead of waiting for Newbury next week. And if he jumps as well as he can and can stay in touch in the early part of the race, then he must have a great shout. Last year's Hennessy told us that there is little between him and Bobs Worth in terms of class and form, and the Lexus showed us what a fighter he can be.
Yes, he still needs kidding and coaxing, but he is in the form of his life at 12-years-old, and I was thrilled with his comeback win over hurdles at Wetherby. I wouldn't put anyone off backing him each way at around 11.0. He finished second in this race three years ago, too, remember.
I don't think there is as much between my pair as the betting suggests, but Conti is probably my number one hope. He is plenty fit enough having had a racecourse gallop - though he goes well fresh anyway - has summered really well, and who knows what might have been had he not fallen when yet to be asked any question in the Gold Cup. You have to say that he would have surely been second at worst.
But why I really like his chances here is his Aintree third last April. To me that is money in the bank. He may have been a bit below par form-wise that day, but you cannot overestimate how important it is to get a confidence-boosting round into a horse after a fall like his at Cheltenham.
We may still have yet to see the best of him - indeed he probably needs a career-best to win this - and I go there hopeful of a very big run. He is in great shape.

DAILY MAIL.
They have amassed in excess of four million pounds in prize money, boast seven Cheltenham Festival wins and comprise one of the most talented fields ever seen for a Betfair Chase, but although their number feature Gold Cup and King George heroes, it maybe Silviniaco Conti (Haydock, 3.00) that again proves victorious.
Last year’s tenacious winner faces stiffer opposition this time with reigning Cold Cup winner Bobs Worth leading an all-star cast trying to topple the Paul Nicholls-trained seven-year-old.
However, he possesses an excellent record fresh and, most importantly, looks at home at the north west venue which, because of its tight nature, can sometimes catch out the dour stayers.
Bobs Worth and Long Run certainly fit that category, while the trip remains an unknown for the admirable Cue Card who will surely find Saturday afternoon’s test nullifying his natural speed.
Dynaste has plenty to prove and to find with Silviniaco Conti who represents a yard which looked to be regaining some of its momentum yesterday while the booking of the excellent Noel Fehily is an undoubted positive.
Haydock stage an excellent support card and Two Rockers (Haydock, nap, 2.25) could prove a sporting best bet in the preceding three mile handicap hurdle.
The selection found conditions at the Cheltenham Festival too quick back in March, but he was seen to great effect when bolting up in a small field Grade 2 Hurdle over Saturday's course and distance a month before.
His undoubted stamina, cruising speed and ability to jump the brush hurdles can stand him in good stead.
Donald McCain believes Clondaw Kaempfer (Haydock, nb, 1.50) will improve on whatever he manages to achieve on Friday.
That may well be the case but the Oscar gelding looked a class act in the making last term, including at this track, and he should give a bold account. The French import Blue Fashion is feared and could be one to keep on side this term.

14:25 Saturday 23rd November Racing Tips - 23/11/2013
I quite liked the look of Crowning Jewell for today's Fixed Brush Hurdle and he looks interesting back over 3 miles. However, the fact that Sixty Something lines up 8lb better off for their meeting at Market Rasen, when Paul Webber's horse was an even more comfortable winner than the distance suggests, gives every reason to support the latter at a massive 40/1. Crowning Jewel's recent efforts have ensured the form is working out well and, equally, the form of his Aintree 6th off the same mark is rock solid. He should appreciate softer ground than he had in Liverpool and, though the yard is still finding its feet this term, he has a better chance than his price indicates now returning to hurdles. Let's hope a recent fall on chasing debut hasn't damaged his confidence. The other few I like include Lie Forrit, last year's winner Trustan Times, and Two Rockers but they don't seem overpriced at this stage and are too difficult to split. Haydock 14.25 - Sixty Something 1pt e/w
Having opted for one big outsider, it feels silly to go straight in for another, especially in a Group 1, but I'm not sure how Roi Du Mee is 20/1 for the Betfair Chase. He beat the poor jumping but classy pair of Sizing Europe and First Liuetenant last time up and is clearly still improving. Well worth a bet with Jason Maguire, 1-1 together, taking the ride and the stable really hitting form. Tidal Bay is fascinating given he finished 3 lengths behind Bobs Worth in last season's Hennessy but was giving the Gold Cup winner 6lb and is off level weights this afternoon. However, both of those look to be out and out stayers and I'm not sure that will win the day here. Cue Card can't be backed over 3 miles, let alone a furlong further, while Dynaste still has some class to prove in his toughest test yet. The one I think will win is last year's winner Silviniaco Conti at 11/4 who was still travelling when falling in the Gold Cup and would have won last time had he not made a bad error 2 out. He also raced back in the field, due to his fall previously, and I don't think that suited. He will be raced more prominently today and should continue the impressive recent yard form with track and ground very much in his favour. Haydock 15.00 - Silviniaco Conti 2pt win
Last up at Haydock is Sydney Paget who looked progressive last season but is still a maiden in handicap company. He is an out and out stayer who was 2nd to the very progressive Emperor's Choice in February. Venetia Williams' horse went on to win under a penalty and Jason Maguire's mount today should be capable of winning off a mark just 2lb higher. His last 2 starts at the end of last term had trip and ground excuses but there should be no such concerns today on soft ground over 3 miles 1 furlong. The yard is kicking into gear and he's a decent price at 8/1. The biggest danger is the progressive Gas Line Boy but he's short given the step up in class from last time. Saint Are could be a real danger if the visor works but the other bet of the race would be Noble Legend. He goes very well here and is unexposed at the trip, though it is not guaranteed to suit. The yard is, however, yet to saddle a winner this term. Haydock 15.35 - Sydney Paget 1pt e/w

STAT WATCH.
While form can only tell you what's happened previously, having an idea of which trainers are currently in form, or which jockeys have the best record at a certain racecourse, can help you to keep on the win- ning track. With relevance to this Saturday's televised races, this column highlights the current trends.
Last Saturday's stats-influenced selections yielded some fair results, including the 7/1 win- ner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup, Johns Spirit, and Bradley, who would have just rewarded each-way backers when third at 5/1 in the 3m 3f handicap chase. The televised Jumps action this Saturday is split between Ascot (2.05, 2.40 and 3.15) and Hay- dock (1.50, 2.25, 3.00 and 3.35), two courses at which trainers' championship rivals Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson both have leading records, by wins and strike rate. However, in the past week (to Monday, 18 November), David Pipe has been the UK's leading Jumps trainer, with 7 wins (including four at Cheltenham last Sunday), ahead of Alan King (5.) By strike rate, it was the up-and-coming yard of trainer Feargal O'Brien that led the way, with 30% of his runners finishing their races as winners. On the jockey front, Joshua Moore has been in red-hot form, recording a 33% strike rate in the last week, by some margin bettering the 25.93% of Tom Scudamore who finished the week as the most-winning jockey of the period. Scudamore's 7 wins just gave him the edge over the 6 of Tony McCoy. Among the televised races from Ascot are two Grade 2s, a chase and a hurdle, both over 2m 4f or thereabouts. The former race, the Amlin 1965 Chase, has been won by some decent horses in the past. Last year's winner, Captain Chris, is set to run again today and even bear- ing penalties for his successes of the past sea- son, he has a good chance according to his official rating, with the team of his trainer Philip Hobbs in good form (18%) at the moment. Paul Nicholls' Al Ferof is well regarded but is return- ing after a year off recovering from injury, and the other main danger could be Nicky Hender- son's Captain Conan. The trainer leads the way by wins at Ascot and Captain Conan, who was a three-time Grade 1 winner last season, is the youngest horse in the race and may be open to more improvement than others. The Grade 2 Coral Hurdle looks a good starting point for the season ahead for the Paul Nicholls-trained Zarkandar, who is unbeaten in four starts on good-soft ground and is one from two over distance. Jeremy Scott's Melodic Rendezvous (2 from 3 on ground) could be a vi- able alternative at a nice price, having run well on his seasonal debut last time when winning the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton. Also at Ascot is a decent little handicap chase over 2m 1f in which trainer Venetia William's Drumshambo looks to have a fair chance, hav- ing won over course and distance last time, and has won 3 times from 7 starts over dis- tance. He could be open to further improve- ment and another who could go well at a price is Kie, trainer by Donald McCain. The yard has a very good 26% strike rate in the past 14 days and Kie, who was a fair novice last season and could be open to further improvement, has won or finished second or third in all seven of his starts over fences to date. At Haydock, the feature race of the day is the Betfair Chase, where Gold Cup and King George VI Chase contenders can be found. This year's race looks particularly strong, but David Pipe's exciting prospect Dynaste, who was a leading novice chaser last season over 3m, has a de- cent each-way chance, with the reassurance of his stable's current good form; 22% strike rate in the past 14 days. He also has winning form over going, distance and at the course. =====================================================
NOTEBOOK. MAYPOLE LASS made a satisfactory debut over hurdles for trainer Renee Robeson, when a fair third in the juvenile fillies' hurdle at Leicester last Monday. Formerly in training with Sir Michael Stoute, for whom she twice finished third in two starts on the Flat this year, in 10f and 12f maid- ens, this daughter of Halling showed well on her stable and hurdling debut, only weakening out of it in the closing stages. Both the winner and runner-up had more experi- ence and had also won several races between them on the Flat, so Maypole Lass' 11-length margin of defeat was not a disgrace, given the form she had shown on the Flat. This was also her first run in four months, whereas the two that finished in front of her both had more recent runs to their names. She can build on this run. Later on the same card at Leicester, trainer John Ferguson's novice chaser BUTHELEZI was not dis- graced in finishing second to a 4/9 favourite of Paul Nicholls, of whom good things are expected. This was Buthelezi's second start over fences, hav- ing stepped up on his run when fourth at Warwick last time, behind the classy winner Balder Succes, who had decent hurdling form to his name, and hails from the in-form yard of Alan King. Buthelezi ran to a very good level on the Flat for his former trainer John Gosden, achieving a peak rating under that code of 105. He switched to Ferguson for the start of the last Jumps season and immediately made the right impression when winning his hurdling debut, a 2m maiden hurdle at Aintree's Becher Chase meeting, by seven lengths. He was subsequently held at Grade 1 level behind the smart Irish-trained Champagne Fever, who upheld the form in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle. Buthelezi then picked up a routine victory in a novices' hurdle at Catterick, before going to Aintree, where he didn't stay the 3m of the Grade 3 handicap hurdle. Last season's form, coupled with Buthelezi's latest and improved showing over fences, suggests that he can make his mark over the larger obstacles this season, providing he doesn't bump into another good one, as happened at Leicester. The opening race at Plumpton's Monday meeting was the 2m novices' hurdle and all eyes were seemingly on the J P McManus-owned REGAL ENCORE , who was backed into 1/9 after finishing second from a long way back on his hurdling debut at Aintree, the time before. On this occasion, he won the race as he pleased, if not asked to exert himself by A P McCoy, and although he only won by one and three-quarter lengths, he is better than the bare result. It will be interesting to see where connections place him this season, as he may now be selectively campaigned with a big handicap hur- dle in mind for later in this campaign. Although the Plumpton race wasn't the hottest novices' hurdle around, there was merit in the performances of the other runners behind Regal Encore, including the third-placed MR SPIGGOTT , trained by Gary Moore. Formerly trained by Mick Channon and Joseph Tuite, Mr Spiggott ran on well from the rear and although his pursuit of the winner and runner-up was ultimately in vain, this was a fair effort on his hurdling debut. Mr Spiggott's best form on the Flat was achieved on heavy ground, and although his two wins in that sphere were over 6f and 1m, he also ran well this year when placed over 12f on heavy ground. His current connections will surely place him to good effect in the coming season at this level, possibly in handicaps further down the line. =====================================================
RACING NEWS.
Champion hurdler Hurricane Fly wrote himself into the history books when victorious in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown last Sunday. The win was the seventeenth Grade 1 success of the nine-year-old's career to date, surpassing the 16 top-flight wins of retired chaser Kauto Star and former US Flat racing star John Henry. It was also one of seven wins recorded on the day by Hurricane Fly's trainer Willie Mullins, split between the cards at Punchestown and Cork. Willie Mullins' joy at saddling seven winners provided some cheer on a day when the sta- ble's new recruit Sanctuaire was sadly killed during a schooling session. Formerly trained by Paul Nicholls, Sanctuaire was being rid- den by Ruby Walsh but dived at a fence and broke his shoulder. Sanctuaire's career wins included two Grade 2 successes over fences, the Desert Orchid Chase and the Celebration Chase. The David Pipe team enjoyed a four-timer on the Sunday of the Paddy Power Gold Cup meeting at Cheltenham, the centre- piece of which was the Greatwood Hurdle win of Dell' Arca, who was making his British and stable debut in the race, having been purchased for €280,000 in France earlier this year. Although the win didn't have a bearing on the leading ante-post fancies for the Champion Hurdle in March, Dell' Arca is technically a novice, so may go for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle instead, though connections have not out- lined any firm plans. Trainer Rebecca Curtis could bid to become the first Welsh trainer since 1965 to land the Welsh National next month, following her charge Boyfromnowhere's victory in the Southern National at Fontwell. Jockey Eamon Corbett reported that Boyfromnowhere 'jumped for fun' in the testing conditions at Fontwell. Top Japanese jockey Yutaka Take recorded the 100th Group or Grade 1 victory of his ca- reer at Kyoto last weekend, when Tosen Ra clinched the course's Mile Championship, worth £1.28m. Take, 44, has won three Japan Cups, five Japanese Derbys, four Group 1s in France, and one in the UK, when he rode Agnes World to win the July Cup in 2000. Trainer Martin Keighley reported that his tal- ented novice hurdler, Creepy, may be aimed at the Albert Bartlett, over 3m, at the Cheltenham Festival later this season, after holding off the well-regarded runner-up Timesremembered in the Grade 2 Hyde Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham last weekend. Jockey Danny Cook announced that he hopes to return to the saddle early in the New Year after suffering a broken leg at Newcastle racecourse last Friday. Cook was kicked before the start of the bumper race at Newcastle, but got on his mount and rode in the race, during which he thought he could hear something clicking and when he returned to the weighing room, found that his leg was swelling. A trip to the hospital later that evening revealed that his fibula had been snapped in two. This year's Arc de Triomphe winner Treve could be coming to Royal Ascot next season, as her provisional plans for 2014 were laid out by her trainer, Criquette Head-Maarek, at the Cartier Awards last week. Treve, who was crowned Horse of the Year at the awards cer- emony, could run in the Prix Ganay before heading to Ascot for the Prince Of Wales's Stakes. She may then run in the Prix de Vermeille en route to the Arc. =================================================
RACE RATINGS.
Saturday, 23 November - 3.00 Haydock Betfair Chase (Registered As The Lancashire Chase) Grade 1 (Class 1) 3m 1f
21/11- Bobs Worth 253 8 11-7 Nicky Henderson Last season's Cheltenham Gold Cup winner was only seen on the racecourse twice, winning the Hennessy Gold Cup on the other occasion. On that basis, he is the most talented horse in the race, but he will he will need to be up to scratch first time out in this company. Rating 100 103-1 Cloudy Too 20 7 11-7 Sue Smith Improving chaser who won a Listed handicap chase at Carlisle nicely. Could improve again but has a lot to find against the best of rivals here, on first outing at this level, and looks one more likely to pick up some of the minor place prize money. RATING 93 5112-3 Cue Card 18 7 11-7 Colin Tizzard Top-class over 2m 5f last season, winning the Ascot Chase and Ryanair Chase. Didn't stay this trip in heavy ground in the King George VI Chase last season, so better ground today would be a help, and Haydock isn't the stiffest track in the world. For all that, there will probably be a decent pace and he faces a few who will stay. RATING 96 11121- Dynaste 232 7 11-7 David Pipe Exciting novice chaser last season, over distances between 2m 4f and 3m. Was arguably outpaced over 2m 4f by Benefficient at the Cheltenham Festival last season, but winning form at this level, either side of that run, gives him a shout here, even if facing some proven top-class chasers. Each-way appeal. RATING 98 2132-5 Long Run 21 8 11-7 Nicky Henderson Former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and twice the winner of the King George VI Chase, Long Run is one of the stable's leading horses, but is ar- guably on something of a comeback mission in this race after knocking the stuffing out of himself in the Charlie Hall Chase last time. This track may not play to his strengths entirely, either, but still has lots of class and respected. RATING 97 1/12-3 Prince De Beauchene 21 10 11-7 W P Mullins Held by Roi Du Mee on recent Irish form and has won at Grade 2 level, the form of which entitles him to line up in this race, but still falls a little short of the likely protagonists in what he's done so far. Stable bang in form, though. Rating 95 11-F21 Roi Du Mee 21 8 11-7 Gordon Elliott Claimed a notable scalp when beating Sizing Europe in a Grade 1 chase over 3m at Down Royal last time, but form of that is probably not as rock- solid as it could be. The talented runner-up is not a proven stayer, and while Roi Du Mee's other form suggests he is very good, he probably just falls short of the absolute best of his rivals here. RATING 97 111F3- Silviniaco Conti 233 7 11-7 Paul Nicholls Held in some regard by stable and was going well when he crashed out of last season's Cheltenham Gold Cup, returning to action with a solid third be- hind First Lieutenant in the Bowl Chase at Aintree next time. Won this race last year when possibly enjoying an easier time out front than might have been expected, and beat Long Run. This year's race may be stronger. RATING 99 3P247- The Giant Bolster 233 8 11-7 David Bridgwater Held by Silviniaco Conti when seven-length run- ner-up to that horse in the Grade 2 Denman Chase at Newbury in February. That was probably his best form of last season when the soft or heavy ground went against him for most of the campaign. Expected better ground today should help, but others still look more viable proposi- tions. RATING 95 121-1 Tidal Bay 21 12 11-7 Paul Nicholls Top-class novice chaser five seasons ago when winning the Arkle and Maghull, but bettered that form since moving to Paul Nicholls, when winning the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown last year and the Lexus Chase last season. Won the West Yorkshire Hurdle on seasonal debut last time and has to be respected, even if 12 years of age. Rating 98 ==================================================

Flip starts at Lingfield Overnight vandalism to the starting stalls at Lingfield means a flip start will be used for races with over ten runners. With the non-runners so far this morning, this is likely to only affect the 7f handicap (1.25) and the 6f handicap at 3.45. 31 mins ago

More on Lingfield vandalism Speaking on ATR, Lingfield clerk Neil Mackenzie Ross said: "We discovered the stalls in a ditch. The framework down to the wheels has buckled and the risk is that they could collapse so we'll use a flip start for those two races." 15 mins ago

View from connections ahead of Sunday's Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan. Tofino Bay: One of two Dessie Hughes runners Trainer Dessie Hughes is concerned conditions at Navan will not be testing enough for last year's winner Tofino Bay and Raz De Maree in Sunday's Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase. Tofino Bay was a narrow winner of the prestigious contest 12 months ago and went on to run well in a number of top novice events, most notably in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. He was a faller on his return to action at Down Royal at the start of the month and although he is reported none the worse for that slip-up, his trainer would have preferred some rain. Raz De Maree won both the Munster National and the Cork Grand National last season, but missed the majority of the campaign through injury and is due to make his first appearance in over a year. Hughes said: "Both horses seem in good form, but we probably would have preferred the ground a little but softer. "I think they're calling it good to yielding at the moment, which isn't ideal for either of our horses. We'd have preferred a drop of rain. "Tofino Bay was fine after his fall in Down Royal and Raz De Maree is in good form as well. He just had a little niggly injury last season. "They're both well, but we might have to wait for their ideal conditions." Heading the weights for the €100,000 contest is the Ted Walsh-trained Colbert Station, the mount of Tony McCoy. The nine-year-old was slightly disappointing over hurdles at Naas last month, but Walsh expects his charge to strip fitter for the run. He said: "I thought he'd have run a bit better at Naas, but he probably needed it. The Troytown is the obvious place to go. He is not good enough for the better races and off 147, there aren't many places to go with a horse like him. "At nine years of age, I wouldn't have thought that he'd improve a great deal. But if he maintains his form from last year and jumps around well he'll win another race along the line. He is in good nick and Navan is a fine track." Trainer Jim Dreaper is hopeful of a bold show from Goonyella, who won at the Punchestown Festival in the spring and was a good second on his seasonal return at Galway last month. Dreaper said: "He just a bit tired on his first run back at Galway, but he should come on for that. It is the bit after three miles that you'll see the best of him, but Navan is a tough track and he'll have his chance. "Long term, he could be a Welsh, English or Irish National horse. "Unfortunately I didn't put the saddle on properly in the Irish National (last season) and it slipped. It was my fault but he came back to win well after that at Punchestown. "He is not a top horse, but he is an honest stayer. It is early days for him and he seems to handle most types of ground. He really tries and regardless of their ability, when you have one that tries, you have a chance." Champion trainer Willie Mullins is represented by Sweet My Lord and Rockyaboya. Of Sweet My Lord, he said: "He disappointed in the Kerry National but a few of mine were not quite right around that time of Listowel, and maybe the ground was just too soft. "The forecast is not too bad so the ground should be okay at Navan

Imperial Commander is set to bow out after next weekend's Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury. Imperial Commander: Will retire after Newbury Trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies, the Flemensfirth gelding enjoyed his finest hour when slamming Denman by seven lengths in the 2010 renewal of the Cheltenham Gold Cup. He has managed just five starts since then and, although reported to be as fit as he's ever been, Ian Robinson, co-owner and spokesman for the Our Friends In The North syndicate, told www.thegloucestershireecho.co.uk that the prestigious handicap would be the 12 year-old's final start. "I think it's safe to say the Hennessy will be his last race," said Robinson. "He had a little bit of a niggle before he went out in the summer and he's come back in looking grand and really well. But he is 12 after all and we've got no desire to race him as a 13-year-old, so basically we decided to give him one last hurrah. "He's still enjoying himself and he's a happy horse, but I think the Hennessy will be it. There's nothing more for him after that and we certainly have no intention of running him in the new year. "All the owners are 100 per cent behind the fact it should be his last race." Imperial Commander has won eight of his 21 races and more than £700,000 in prize-money and is a general 16/1 chance to add to his haul at the Berkshire venue. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bloodstock agent Ross Doyle has revealed Irish Oaks heroine Chicquita is likely to stay in training next season after paying €6million for the filly at the Goffs November Sale. Chicquita: New owner not known yet The three-year-old filly was the jewel in the crown of Australian owner-breeder Paul Makin's spectacular 24-horse Paulyn Dispersal draft and unsurprisingly attracted huge attention as she stepped into the sales ring as the final lot on Friday evening. Chicquita won the Irish Oaks at the Curragh by half a length in July for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre and also finished second to Arc heroine Treve in the French equivalent a month earlier. Doyle, who purchased the filly with his father Peter, would not reveal his client, but expects Chicquita to race on as a four-year-old in 2014. Asked whether he could reveal Chicquita's new owner, Doyle said: "I can't at the moment and it will be a while before we do. "She is a very special filly and a beautiful looking filly by the late, great Montjeu. "She clearly has huge residual value as a potential broodmare, but I think she will probably stay in training next year. That's the plan at the moment. "She's a top-class filly with a lot of ability. Hopefully she still has a big future and hopefully, she'll be running in the top Group One races next season." Also amongst the Makin consignment was the 2009 July Cup winner Fleeting Spirit, who is in foal to Galileo and fetched €1.1million. Song, the first mare in foal to Frankel on sale in Europe, went to John Egan for €1million. Ascot, 23 November 2013
1.30, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference just after the last. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, SCHOLASTICA, ridden by Felix de Giles, had interfered with TOP TOTTI, placed second, ridden by Andrew Tinkler and that the interference had not improved SCHOLASTICA’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered. The Stewards found de Giles in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift left. They suspended him for 3 days as follows: Sunday 8, Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 December 2013.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Andrew Tinkler, the rider of TOP TOTTI, placed second, from the third last. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Tinkler for 2 days as follows: Sunday 8 and Monday 9 December 2013.
23/11/2013
Lingfield Park, 23 November 2013
The Stewards held an enquiry into the circumstances which led to only one bank of starting stalls being available. They interviewed the Clerk of the Course and the Starter. They noted the Clerk of the Course’s explanation that one of the two banks of stalls available had been vandalised overnight. The Stewards gave permission for all races with more than 10 runners to be started with a Flip Start.
12.20, second race
The Stewards noted that ALUMINA (IRE), placed third, had interfered with RANDOM, unplaced, which interfered with PREVIOUS ACCLAIM (IRE), unplaced, which then interfered with PARADISE CHILD, unplaced, approaching the furlong marker, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved ALUMINA (IRE)’s placing.
1.25, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the fall of George Baker, the rider of VICTORIAN NUMBER (FR), at the start. They interviewed the rider and having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the incident the Stewards found that the fall was caused by the gelding whipping round shortly after the race had started. Being satisfied that no other horse or rider was involved the Stewards took no further action.
23/11/2013
Haydock Park, 23 November 2013
12.10, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the fall of Michael Byrne, the rider of HAWKHILL (IRE), turning into the home straight. They interviewed the rider, and having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the incident the Stewards found that the fall was caused by HAWKHILL (IRE), slipping on the bend when weakening. Being satisfied that no other horse or rider was involved, the Stewards took no further action.
1.50, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Kieron Edgar, the rider of HOME RUN (GER), placed fourth, from after the final flight. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Edgar for 2 days as follows: Sunday 8 and Monday 9 December 2013.
23/11/2013
Huntingdon, 23 November 2013
2.15, fifth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, DALRYMPLE (IRE), ridden by Ollie Garner, and trained by Nick Ayliffe, compared with its previous run at Chepstow on 1 October 2013 where the gelding finished seventh beaten 23 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding benefitted from the soft ground. They ordered DALRYMPLE (IRE) to be routine tested.
23/11/2013
Wolverhampton, 23 November 2013
6.50, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference inside the final half furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, RITE TO REIGN, ridden by Danny Brock, had interfered with FINE VINTAGE (FR), placed third, ridden by Joe Fanning, and then with DRAGOON GUARD (IRE), placed second, ridden by Martin Harley, and that the interference had not improved RITE TO REIGN’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered. The Stewards found Brock in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he failed to take sufficient corrective measures to prevent the gelding from drifting right. They suspended him for 4 days as follows: Saturday 7, Monday 9, Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 December 2013.
7.20, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, JAWAAB (IRE), ridden by Joe Fanning, and trained by Philip Kirby, compared with its previous run at Wolverhampton on 1 November 2013, where the gelding finished fourth, beaten by 17 ¼ lengths. They interviewed the trainer who stated that he felt the gelding may have appreciated the addition of eye-shields, which replaced a visor worn last start, and additionally had benefited from being well handicapped on his best form in a race that lacked strength and depth. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of JAWAAB (IRE) could be reviewed. They ordered JAWAAB to be routine tested.
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference shortly after the start. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that UNTIL THE MAN (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Louis Steward, had interfered with LACEY, placed third, ridden by Jack Duern, who in turn interfered with the winner, JAWAAB (IRE). The Stewards found Steward in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed UNTIL THE MAN (IRE), to drift left shortly after the start. They suspended him for 1 days as follows: Saturday 7 December 2013.
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference rounding the first bend. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that PRIMACY (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Liam Keniry, had interfered with ICE APPLE, placed fourth, ridden by Jimmy Quinn, who in turn interfered with DEW REWARD (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Ryan While. They found the interference was accidental.
8.20, sixth race
The Stewards noted that there was interference between FUNDING DEFICIT (IRE), and SPEIGHTOWNS KID (USA), ultimately causing further interference to WOODEN KING (IRE), all unplaced, shortly after the start but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that INDIAN AFFAIR, placed second, ridden by David Porbert, had interfered with SEWN UP, placed third, ridden by Shane Kelly. The Stewards found Probert in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed the colt to drift right. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.

Robin Goodfellow's best bets from Sunday's National Hunt action
Sunday's racing selections from Robin Goodfellow (Sam Turner) EXETER
12.35 Doctor Harper; 1.05 Cruising Bye; 1.35 Buckhorn Tom; 2.05 Sonofvic; 2.35 Addiction; 3.05 Oscar Hill; 3.35 Benbecula; 4.05 Oscar Jane. TOWCESTER
12.45 Fountains Mary; 1.15 Flying Phoenix; 1.45 Riddleofthesands; 2.15 Salut Honore (nb); 2.45 KINGS APOLLO (nap); 3.15 Waltzing Tornad; 3.45 Chicoria.
Kings Apollo (Towcester, nap, 2.45) looks to have began life in handicaps off a lenient mark judged on his smooth Ludlow success on seasonal return and this unexposed son of King's Theatre looks well worth supporting to follow up off an 11lb higher mark against a pretty poor set of rivals at Towcester. The four-year-old represents the in-form Tom Symonds stable, who have already sent out five winners this month.
The feature race in Ireland on Sunday is the Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase and trainer Dessie Hughes is concerned conditions at Navan will not be testing enough for last year's winner Tofino Bay and Raz De Maree.

14:25 Sunday 24th November Racing Tips - 24/11/2013
Colbert Station was a strong Grand National fancy so he has to have a strong chance of taking the Troytown Chase off 2lb lower. He has gone well over course and distance before but there's likely to be something a little better treated below him. Mad Brian could be anything on debut at the trip and his record here is impressive. He also shapes as though a step up to 3 miles is needed. He got the better of Toner D'Oudaries on penultimate start, a horse that has proved himself in Graded company of late, and this 7 year old is potentially very well treated at 10/1. I'd rather side with a younger sort and the other 2nd season chasing 7 year old to note is Panther Claw at 20/1. He is a course and distance winner in novice company from last session and there should be more to come now back over 3 miles. 2 subsequent efforts over further didn't really suit and he has a big pull in the weights with Punchestown winner Goonyella this afternoon. The trip looks perfect on breeding and, whilst he will not want it to dry up too much, he is 1 from one with today's jockey and remains unexposed. The other I'd back is Rockyaboya who should be better back down in trip. Navan 14.25 - Mad Brian 1pt e/w Navan 14.25 - Panther Claw 1pt e/w
Another that needs plenty of respect at Navan is Sweeney Tunes, back over hurdles after a time in the chasing wilderness but who runs off a very handy mark indeed. He has the benefit of a worthy claim form Jane Mangan and should go off favourite. The step up in trip shouldn't inconvenience and hopefully Paul Nolan will have already had a winner on the card (sse above). The 2 I want to side with though are Jennies Jewel at 10/1 and Themoonandsixpence at 20/1. The former ran a really good race on handicap debut last time and is only 3lb higher for this. She was a little unlucky in running and should really have won, staying on strongly come the finish. The yard is yet to saddle a winner this term, in either code, but that isn't necessarily a fair reflection of form an this runner is their best hope of a reversal in fortunes. I like the Mullins horse because he is back over hurdles off a mark only 1lb higher than his last win in this sphere. Relatively lightly raced for a 10 year old, he hasn't looked quite the same since returning from a 2 and a bit year absence early last season but back over this sort of trip on better ground should be a plus. Last time was too far on softer ground than ideal and, with a few starts now under his belt, he's bigger for this than he should be if back anywhere near on song. Navan 14.55 - Themoonandsixpence 1pt e/w Navan 14.55 - Jennies Jewel 1pt e/w

Paul Nicholls could have at least two cracks at the William Hill King George VI Chase, with Silviniaco Conti and Al Ferof under consideration for Kempton on Boxing Day. Al Ferof: King George hopeful Both horses were in action on Saturday, with Silviniaco Conti failing to retain the Betfair Chase but still running an honourable third behind Colin Tizzard's irrepressible Cue Card. It was rather easier for Al Ferof at Ascot, where he had no problems seeing off his only rival, French Opera, in the Amlin 1965 Chase. Of Silviniaco Conti, Nicholls said: "He ran very well. It was a better race than last year and I just felt he needed the run. "I was well pleased. He's in the King George, and I think that would be favourite, but one would have to give him an entry in the Lexus (Leopardstown). Al Ferof, owned by John Hales, had not appeared since winning last year's Paddy Power Gold Cup, as he had been held up due to a tendon problem. Nicholls told Racing UK: "We've got him five weeks to get him ready for the King George and I think that race should suit him very well." The trainer has won the Christmas highlight a record seven times, twice with See More Business and an incredible five with Kauto St

Gentildonna produced a gutsy performance for Ryan Moore to become the first dual winner of the Japan Cup at Tokyo racecourse. Ryan Moore: Tasted success in the Japan Cup Sei Ishizaka's charge won a rough renewal of the 12-furlong Grade One last year and the four-year-old again had to show plenty of determination to land the honours. Moore was riding the filly for the first time and had her well positioned on the inside throughout as Eishin Flash and the William Buick-ridden Tosen Jordan set the early fractions. Moore began to make his move on the turn for home though, assuming control with over a furlong to run and appearing likely to score in style. However, Denim And Ruby was flying down the outside in the dying strides but just failed to catch Gentildonna at the line. Tosen Jordan ran on again for Buick to claim third while the Mikel Delzangles-trained Dunaden fared best of the European raiders in finishing fifth in the hands of Jamie Spencer. Ed Dunlop's Joshua Tree raced prominently in the early stages but faded out of it in the finish while the Willie Mullins-trained Simenon was also down the field. Moore paid tribute to his winning mount and admitted his delight at landing the prestigious prize. He told At The Races: "I'm just very happy. I was delighted to be given the opportunity to ride and she proved what a courageous filly she is. I was very lucky to have the chance to ride today. "She proved what a special filly she is. "I just wanted to have a nice position, settle and ride a nice smooth race. Unfortunately it was not the prettiest as they went slow and it was tactical. I was in front a bit early but she she showed her massive will to win. "She's very special and it was a real privilege to ride. On a personal level, I wanted to win this race and I needed a filly as tough and genuine as her to do it." Connections of Dunaden were thrilled with their charge's performance as he was forced to race wide in the finish. David Redvers, racing manager for owner Pearl Bloodstock, tweeted: "Unbelievable run from Dunaden. What a world superstar to finish 5th widest of all. Unbelievably heart-burstingly proud. #lovethathorse."

Owner Graham Wylie is hoping Briar Hill can continue to improve after making a perfect start over hurdles at Wexford last Tuesday. Briar Hill: Impressive on hurdling bow The five-year-old, winner of last season's Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, ran out an 11-length victor in the hands of Ruby Walsh on his first try over obstacles. Wylie told At The Races: "Willie (Mullins, trainer) said he was jumping well at home. "It was the first time ever I got nervous because of reputation, but he jumped magnificently. "Ruby said he'd be better going left-handed so that's the bonus as well. "Hopefully he'll progress and go on to bigger and better things."

The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Tom Bellamy, the rider of CASH INJECTION, placed fourth, from the second last flight. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip above the permitted level. DAILY MAIL. Back in April, Exceed Expectations (Wolverhampton, nap, 4.00) was racing off a mark of 79 and finishing on the heels of the talented Lowther at the Midlands venue.
Seven months later, the son of Intikhab resides off a mark of just 62 and has slipped into a grade of race which should ensure he is highly competitive. At the age of 10, Noble Alan (Wolverhampton, nb, 5.30) is in the veteran category, but there is still life in the old campaigner as his effort at Dunstall Park last time showed.
As befitting a horse who has contested a Northumberland Plate and various other valuable Flat handicaps, the Nicky Richards-trained stalwart was travelling supremely well on the home turn before the combination of younger legs and trouble in running meant he was left behind in the straight.
There is a concern the selection maybe better over shorter trips than today's, but I’m hoping his class will ensure he is one of the last off the bridle and Graham Lee can deliver him late in the peace
The return to today’s trip will also be beneficial to the selection who has been showing glimpses of ability over sprint distances in recent months, not least when only beaten two lengths by Dark Lane here over 6f on his penultimate start.
On the face of it, the booking of Graham Lee looks a positive move for one of the best handicapped horses of the day’s action.
Persian Snow (Kempton, 2.05) is undoubtedly better on a right handed track and he has the chance to atone for a frustrating defeat last time.
The race at Ascot looked in safe keeping for the gelding when he struck the front approaching two fences from home, but from that moment his concentration wavered and he allowed himself to be worried out of it by Ivor’s King.
Hopefully a more patient ride can see him prevail. Robin Goodfellow Selections
