Alvarado is likely to return to Cheltenham for the £45,000 Grade Three Majordomo Hospitality Handicap Chase over three miles, one and a half furlongs on the first day of The International, Friday, December 13. Alvarado: Could return to Cheltenham The eight-year-old bounced right back to his best at The Open with a comfortable two-length success in the Grade Three Murphy Group Handicap Chase over just short of three and a half miles on November 16. Fergal O'Brien's charge had previously run encouragingly on his seasonal reappearance at Chepstow in October, staying on well to finish fifth in a competitive three-mile handicap chase. O'Brien reported: "I think something like the Majordomo Hospitality Handicap Chase will be on Alvarado's agenda now. We have not entered him for the Becher Chase or Welsh National because the owners were not keen to go there, so I'm sure Cheltenham will be on the radar. "He has come out of Saturday really well and I could not be happier with him. He went for a walk yesterday and did a couple of canters today and is very well in himself. "He is a quirky little horse and has the ability to win over shorter trips, but the trip was fine for him on Saturday and he really showed his speed from the back of the last. We knew he would act around the track and I thought it was a great performance. "The key to him is keeping his mind right because he is a very talented horse. He loves being turned out in the field, so we have been doing that a lot. "We got him from Evan Williams just before the start of last season, but we had him in much earlier this year and his last three runs have been very consistent." The highlight of the two-day meeting is the £130,000 Grade Two StanJames.com International Hurdle. The two mile, one furlong contest is likely to feature The New One, trained locally by Nigel Twiston-Davies, who is the 4/1 ante-post favourite with the sponsor for the StanJames.com Champion Hurdle at The Festival in March. Entries for the £100,000 Grade Three December Gold Cup close next Tuesday, November 26, and will be released on Wednesday, November 27.

Lingfield Park, 20 November 2013
12.00, first race
The Starter reported that CAROLINE’S BEACH (IRE), trained by J. S. Moore, was unruly in the stalls and withdrawn. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
12.30, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that PENNY SIXPENCE (FR), placed third, ridden by Robert Havlin, had interfered with FEBRAYER STAR (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Jim Crowley, who then interfered with FLICKSTA (USA), unplaced, ridden by Luke Morris. They found the interference was accidental.
1.30, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Starter that SAKHEE’S ALROUND, ridden by Adam Beschizza, refused to race. They interviewed the rider, the trainer’s representative and the Starter. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the start, and noting that the filly had also refused to race at Brighton on 2 July 2013, the Stewards referred SAKHEE’S ALROUND’s behaviour to the British Horseracing Authority.
3.00, seventh race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why William Twiston-Davies, the rider of KAYLEE, had been slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the start they accepted his explanation that the blindfold was difficult to remove.
3.30, eighth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference in the early stages. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that GLADSTONE (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Miss Rachel King, had interfered with MERRJANAH, unplaced, ridden by Mr A French. The Stewards found Miss King in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that she manoeuvred left. They suspended her for 3 days on dates to be notified by the British Horseracing Authority.

Hexham, 20 November 2013
Due to the ground conditions, permission has been given by the British Horseracing Authority for Fence 7 to be omitted in all steeple chases.
3.10, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, AMETHYST ROSE (IRE), ridden by Daragh Bourke and trained by Stuart Coltherd, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer who stated that the mare had benefited by the step up in trip and the lower grade of race. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of AMETHYST ROSE (IRE) could be reviewed.

Warwick, 20 November 2013
1.20, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference at the three furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, ALPANCHO, ridden by Daryl Jacob, had interfered with SONOFAGUN (FR), placed second, ridden by Will Kennedy. The Stewards found Jacob in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to roll in on the bend. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Wednesday 4 December 2013.
3.50, seventh race
The Stewards enquired into the start of the race when it appeared that INSTAGRAMHER, ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies, and trained by Charlie Brooks, had been left at the start. They interviewed the rider, and the trainer’s representative in the presence of the starters. Having heard their evidence and viewed a video recording they found that the start had been effected fairly, but that the rider had been expecting to be allowed to move up to the other runners before the tapes were released.
20/11/2013
Kempton Park, 20 November 2013
4.30, second race
The Stewards noted that LITTLE BUXTED (USA), placed second, and ORATORIO’S JOY (IRE), unplaced, had interfered with PRECISION FIVE, unplaced, in the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved LITTLE BUXTED (USA)’s placing.
6.30, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference shortly after the start. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that EMERALD WILDERNESS (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Frederik Tylicki, had interfered with TULLIUS (IRE), unplaced, ridden by David Probert, who in turn interfered with BERTIEWHITTLE, placed second, ridden by Graham Gibbons. The Stewards found Tylicki in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he manoeuvred right handed. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 December 2013.
The Stewards noted that the winner, SIRIUS PROSPECT (USA), had interfered with MALILLA (IRE), unplaced, turning out of the back straight, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved SIRIUS PROSPECT (USA)’s placing.

19 November 2013 - OPEN GLORY Last weekend’s Paddy Power Open meeting at Cheltenham was the first recognised festival of the winter season and the best of the action from the first two days is covered at length in this week’s bulletin. As Sunday’s card falls into the next racing week a round-up of those races will be included in our next edition.
That’s the spirit
The Paddy Power Gold Cup is one of the most competitive handicap chases of the season and as I opened the Racing Post on Saturday morning and saw the Pricewise table showing 8/1 the field I was far happier than last year when faced with 7/4-favourite Grands Crus, writes Mark Olley. An open betting heat certainly doesn’t mean it will be a competitive race, but at least it shows that we have set a decent puzzle.
And a puzzle is what I faced when looking at the result. There were numerous questions that needed answers. Johns Spirit clearly idled on the run-in – how far could the winning margin have been? How much ground did Colour Squadron lose when hampered at the second last? Where would Easter Meteor have finished if he had not fallen? All the answers are subjective, but all have a bearing on the new ratings of those involved.
I decided to base the race around the fourth, Attaglance, who raced from a mark of 137. His sole previous run at Cheltenham was when landing the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle at the 2012 Festival from a rating of 139. I don’t think it is unfair to say that his chasing career has been mixed to date, but I feel that is mainly due to his lack of opportunities on his favoured good ground. Malcolm Jefferson’s gelding clearly loves Cheltenham and now things seem to be falling into place he’s clearly well handicapped on the best of his hurdles form.
Irish-challenger Hidden Cyclone moves up 3lb to a new rating of 155. A figure which it could be argued he also achieved in beating 142-rated Spring Heeled by six lengths (conceding 7lb) at Listowel in September.
Now to address the question of Colour Squadron. I think he lost at least four lengths when hampered at the second last, mainly due to loss of momentum at such a crucial stage of the race, and he also wasn’t helped by wandering all over the run-in. On balance I have called the one and a half lengths between him and Hidden Cyclone 4lb which means Colour Squadron has a new rating of 146 (+7).
My next decision was how much ground had Johns Spirit forfeited by idling. I had no doubt he had idled and was encouraged to see that Jonjo O’Neill agreed, certainly according to his quote in the Racing Post “I was thinking that’s a bit early. He was idling all the way to the line…..”. In the end I called the three-quarters of a length margin over where I considered Colour Squadron would have finished 2lb, which means I have him 6lb superior to Hidden Cyclone in third and going up 9lb to 148.
The final of the three questions regarding where would Easter Meteor have finished had he not fallen is probably the hardest as two out at Cheltenham is still a fair way from home. I don’t think he was travelling as well as Johns Spirit but felt he probably was going as well as Colour Squadron. However, having made much of the running I’m not sure he would have rallied as well as Philip Hobbs’ gelding eventually did. Alongside Hidden Cyclone is probably fair and so he moves to 143 (+3). However, he has now made significant errors on all three of his runs this season and has some big questions to answer regarding his fencing.
Novice round-up
It is that time of year when the better novice chasers start to appear and I was impressed with Smad Place at Exeter, writes Phil Smith. I had him performing to 148 when beating Ardkilly Witness (134) by an easy seven lengths. As a result I have given him a chase handicap mark of 148 as my colleague Mark Olley had him performing to the same level when he fell at the last at Huntingdon.
This is 8lb lower than his hurdles mark but of course he has not shown himself to be as good a chaser as he is a hurdler yet. As he won a handicap hurdle off 144 I would be confident he can be competitive in a chase handicap off 148.
It puts him just behind Le Bec (149) who clearly ran in a more competitive novice chase at Cheltenham and looks every inch a chaser for the future. He beat Shutthefrontdoor (146) by three quarters of a length but I called the margin 3lb as I felt Le Bec was idling in the last 50 yards having already put the race to bed.
Just behind was Sam Winner, who was receiving 5lb. I have allocated him a chase rating of 140 which is 1lb lower than his hurdles mark. This gives connections an option, as they can run him off top weight in one of the new (this season) novice handicap chases or they can put him in another class 2 novice.
I was pleased with my Grade 3 handicap on the Cheltenham card, the Murphy Group Chase, as the first five home were covered by less than a second. You have to take your hat off to old Knockara Beau who was badly hampered and made a couple of uncharacteristic jumping errors towards the end of the race yet was still only beaten by two lengths.
My marker horses were Monbeg Dude and Godsmejudge, who finished only a neck apart, so they stayed on the marks they ran off. As a result Bradley who was just ahead of them went up 1lb to 133 and Knockara Beau went up 3lb to 148. The winner Alvarado won nicely by two lengths despite forfeiting ground when coming wide on the home turn so he went up by 7lb to 139.
So if the first five were to meet again next time Godsmejudge would be 7lb better with the winner for a four-and-a-half-length beating, Monbeg Dude would also be 7lb better for four and a quarter lengths, Bradley would be 6lb better off with Alvarado for three and three quarter lengths and Knockara Beau would be 4lb better off for a two-length beating.
My job is to set a puzzle that you find difficult to solve so which of these horses would you select to win under the same conditions in the future? Hopefully it will take you more than just a few seconds to make your decision.
Royal procession
Anyone who witnessed the hurdling debut of the Nicky Henderson-trained Royal Irish Hussar would have been hard to convince that day that, come the middle of November, the colt would be demonstrably the most accomplished juvenile seen in Britain and Ireland so far, writes David Dickinson.
On that Market Rasen debut, Royal Irish Hussar didn’t jump a twig and it appeared to be his Flat class that got him home. An improved display followed at Wetherby under a more positive ride but Saturday’s Grade 2 JCB Triumph Trial Prestbury Hurdle at Cheltenham represented another step forward. In the first two throughout, his relentless galloping and unrecognisably slick jumping wore his rivals down one by one in a better time than the winner of a competitive handicap on the end of the previous day’s card.
I have settled on a rating of 147 for the winner with the Irish-trained Guitar Pete running to 141. The admirable Akdam, although in trouble some way from home, stuck to his guns and once again seems to have run his race. The disappointments Azza and Herod The Great looked to pay the price for trying to go with the winner. Royal Irish Hussar is now likely to steer clear of winter soft ground but given good health seems sure to be a major player in March’s Juvenile showpiece.
Ruby Walsh’s sole Friday ride was on the Tony Martin-trained hotpot Quick Jack, who duly obliged in the novices’ handicap after travelling strongly. He was not the only one travelling strongly jumping two out and this competitive event has a habit of throwing up future winners. I would suggest that this year’s renewal will prove no exception.

17:40 Thursday 21st November Racing Tips - 21/11/2013
Brownsea Brink returns to the all weather this evening and is 1 from 1 over course and distance. He has a nice profile for this but is unlikely to be left alone up front and he may be a little high in the weights now after a recent treble. The one that looks overpriced, and is sure to appreciate a likely good gallop, is Atlantis Crossing at 10/1. Jim Boyle is having a good season on synthetics and his 4 year old looks progressive enough to threaten off a mark only 2lb higher than his last win on penultimate start over course and distance. His record here reads 126131 over this trip, though this is a step up in class. It was a truly run race last time and he should get the same again today. Luck in running will be required but he's well drawn to get cover and a drop back to a strongly run 7 should be what he needs after disappointing over a mile last time. Kempton 19.10 - Atlantis Crossing 1pt e/w
A better race than Maverik lines up in today should hold some clues as to the likely result and William Knight's gelding will have less competition for the lead than he had at the end of August. Well Painted flew home up the outside under Ryan Moore and, both now 3lb lower, Nathan Alison's claim will be useful. However, the latter needs a strong pace and, whilst he looks the most likely winner, the 9/1 about top-weight Maverik is of more appeal. He drops into this class for the first time in 10 months, when 2nd of 1lb lower at Lingfield, and has a course and distance win to his name when last in this sort of company. The yard is really finding its feet of late and regular partner Jim Crowley is on top. Gracious George could go well at a price and, before checking yard form, he was to be the selection. He is still only 3 and there looks to be more to come on this surface but whether he will be the yards first all weather winner of the year is debatable. Kempton 17.40 - Maverik 1pt e/w

Timeform feel Saturday's Betfair Chase is the best renewal yet in terms of strength in depth. Cue Card: Joint top rated with Timeform ahead of the Betfair Chase A field of eight is headed by reigning Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth and last year's Betfair Chase victor Silviniaco Conti. Timeform Jumps Handicapper Phil Turner commented: "Five of Timeform's top 10 chasers in training are set to clash on Saturday and it promises to be a terrific race. The fact that Dynaste, who was clearly the best staying novice on British soil last winter, is coming out bottom on Timeform ratings - albeit with a "+" - underlines just how much quality is in the field." Paul Nicholls is double-handed as he bids for a sixth Betfair Chase win, with Silviniaco Conti (who renews rivalry with 2012 placed pair Long Run and The Giant Bolster) joined by his mercurial stable-companion Tidal Bay (runner-up in 2010 when with Howard Johnson) in the line-up, whilst Gordon Elliott saddles the sole Irish raider Roi du Mee. However, it is Bobs Worth and Cue Card who head Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings, the pair of them meeting for the first time since the former claimed a short-head victory (when in receipt of 7lb) in a Newbury novice chase back in November 2011. Turner added: "A lot has happened since that day, though it was clear from an early stage that both were likely to develop into top-notch chasers. Bobs Worth is ultra-reliable and has a fantastic wins-to-runs ratio, so certainly deserves his place at the head of the betting. However, Cue Card arguably makes the most appeal at current odds. His stamina is a doubt, of course, but his dam stayed well and he's certainly worth another try at this sort of trip despite flopping in last season's King George at Kempton." Betfair Chase (all ratings weight-adjusted):193 Bobs Worth, Cue Card 188 Tidal Bay 186 Silviniaco Conti 184 Long Run 183 Roi Du Mee 179 The Giant Bolster 173+ Dynaste.

Trainer Jeremy Scott says it is likely Melodic Rendezvous will swerve the Coral Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday and instead run next weekend at Newcastle. Melodic Rendezvous: Winner at Wincanton The seven-year-old gelding is one of seven possible runners for the Grade Two in Berkshire, and threw down an early marker for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham next March following his accomplished success in the Elite Hurdle at Wincanton. But Scott accepts his inmate is a more viable contender for the StanJames.com Fighting Fifth Hurdle on Saturday week - should the leading protagonists for the Coral Hurdle stand their ground. He wrote on "The Coral Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday reopened so we thought we'd stick an entry in for Melodic Rendezvous, see who else entered, work out who is likely to run, and make a decision from there. "It appears that Zarkandar and Willie Mullins' horse, Annie Power, are both likely to run. "Zarkandar is rated higher than us and Annie Power will have the mares' 7lb allowance. "Off Melodic's current rating of 155 they would be hard to beat. "It's a two-mile-three-furlong race, and he's only run over two miles or two miles and one furlong, so the likelihood is that we will go for the Fighting Fifth, unless Zarkandar and Annie Power don't run, to see whether he is true Champion Hurdle class. "My Tent Or Yours is the horse that will take all the beating in that race (Fighting Fifth), and if he beats us by a country mile, then we know we will need to have a rethink. "It's only with the benefit of hindsight that we will know if we've done the right thing."

Emma Lavelle is out to continue her golden start to the season with Shotgun Paddy in what looks an informative four-runner Betfair Cash Out Novices' Chase at Haydock on Friday. Emma Lavelle: Hoping hot streak can continue at Haydock The six-year-old was decent over timber and finished third in a Grade Two last season behind Two Rockers when the stable were not firing. With the yard enjoying a fruitful start to the campaign Shotgun Paddy won first time out this season, leaving the highly-regarded Just A Par trailing in his wake. "We were really pleased and we think he'll have come on for the run," said Dan Downie, racing manager for the owners, Axom. "He's a difficult horse to assess at home as he certainly saves his best for the track, it's fair to say he doesn't put himself out at home. "The runner-up last time has form in a Grade One and ours jumped accurately and loved the ground. "He will need to improve tomorrow, and we'd prefer a bit more rain but it's certainly not a reason to pull him out. He's in good form, schooled well this morning and the yard is flying. "We've always viewed him as a horse unlikely to run at Cheltenham and Aintree as the ground would be too quick, so the dream would be a Welsh National, I suppose." Many Clouds earned plenty of plaudits for his chasing debut up at Carlisle, putting in a faultless display and beating Cheltenham Festival winner Holywell in the process. Trainer Oliver Sherwood had intended to wait a week and run him at Newbury's Hennessy meeting but he is in such good heart the aim is to strike while the iron is hot. "He's going up in grade so you expect the competition to be hot," said Sherwood. "We'll find out where we are after this, that is for sure. He came out of his race at Carlisle better than I'd anticipated as originally I thought he'd need another week but as it's Mr Hemmings' (owner) local track this seemed the right race. "We're giving weight to Donald's (McCain) horse Up And Go, who beat us over hurdles at Wetherby, so it will be interesting. "The ground will be no problem at all and this will be a learning curve. Win, lose or draw the main thing is that he comes back in one piece."

A ROBBER who killed a betting shop manager in a frenzied hammer attack was a regular punter, a court has heard.
Shafique Aarij, on trial for the murder of Andrew Iacovou at the shop he ran in Morden, London, was a 'monitored customer' at a Tooting betting shop due to his gambling habits, a jury at Southwark Crown Court was told.
Aarij is accused of attacking Iacovou, of Church Hill Road, Cheam, as he worked at Ladbrokes in Aberconway Road just before 8.30am on May 25. The prosecution claims he hit Iacovou, 55, in the head with a claw hammer up to ten times before leaving with £296 and wiring some of the money to Pakistan. Aarij, 21, denies murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
The court on Thursday heard evidence from workers at betting shops around south London. Anju Matardi, who works at the branch of Ladbrokes where Iacovou was killed, told the court Aarij was a regular and would place bets of up to £100 on cricket matches and smaller amounts on dog racing.
She told the court that Aarij was known for combing his thick, long hair in the shop. In the days before the attack Aarij is said to have shaved his head and moustache.
The court was also read a statement from Alex Flemming, manager at the Tooting branch of Paddy Power, which said: "He is a monitored customer due to the stakes of his bets and because it's mostly on cricket. When I spoke to him he was polite, not too talkative. He was a losing customer but always smiled when he lost."
The court additionally heard evidence from pathologist Simon Poole, who detailed the injuries sustained by Iacovou, including several fractures to his skull.
He said: "The degree of head injury was unequivocally severe. Even the first impact, if it had sufficient force to effect skull fractures, loss of consciousness would have happened rapidly and death would have shortly followed."
The trial continues.

THE long and glorious career of Britain's champion Flat trainer Richard Hannon will officially come to an end next month after he revealed to the Racing Post that son and assistant Richard jnr will take over the stable's training licence on January 1.
Hannon, who became champion for the fifth time this month, has written to owners, including the Queen, informing them that he will stand down at the end of the year.
In a glittering career that has endured since 1970, Hannon has been associated with a large number of top-class horses, including most recently star milers Canford Cliffs, Toronado and Olympic Glory.
The 68-year-old also this year trained his fourth British Classic winner when outstanding filly Sky Lantern landed the 1,000 Guineas under son-in-law and stable jockey Richard Hughes.
Hannon said on Thursday: "It has been a long career and I've trained a lot of winners but it's about time that Richard got his name on the roster of trainers.
"It was always going to happen, but Richard jnr has served his apprenticeship and you cannot keep him waiting forever. Ian Balding passed the baton to Andrew and Barry Hills did likewise to Charlie, and it is only right that Richard should now take over.
"We thought long and hard as to when to make the announcement, but I wanted to make sure all my owners knew first, especially the Queen, and now that all the yearlings are in for next season it is the appropriate moment to let everyone know. After all, it is Richard's 38th birthday today - what better present could he ask for?
"Inevitably, people will say that I have retired, but I will still be up and out at first lot and assisting Richard instead of him assisting me.
"It is not my style to lay in bed all morning - I love being with the horses, but these past couple of seasons I have started to wind down and go racing less.
"I will still go to Newbury and Salisbury and also Royal Ascot and Goodwood, but I am now 68 and maybe it is time that I dropped down a gear.
"The quality of horses he has definitely improved these last two or three years, and that is down to Richard jnr. It was him who brought in Sheikh Hamdan [Al Maktoum] and Sheikh Joaan [Al Thani] among others, and we can now go to the bloodstock sales with fatter cheque books than we have done in the past."
Hannon also reflected on some of the horses he has been involved with.
He added: "I have been lucky enough to have trained some great horses. The first Classic winner is always special and I will never forget Mon Fils [1973] landing that Guineas, while Tirol and Don't Forget Me also have prominent places in the scrapbook, but there have been plenty of others, notably Canford Cliffs, Paco Boy, Toronado, Sky Lantern and Olympic Glory.
"We have one more roll of the dice this year, Sky Lantern in the Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin on December 8. We have enjoyed another fabulous season, with seven Group 1 winners and £5.5 million in prize-money, but it would be nice to finish with one more biggie, and maybe Sky Lantern can make the dream become reality. She is very well and she will love the fast ground out there.
"Then who knows Richard jnr might get off to a flying start by winning the 2,000 Guineas with Toormore or one of the others. Now that would be the perfect lift-off, wouldn't it?"

Donald McCain has four chances to strike on day one of Haydock's prestigious Betfair Chase meeting.
Haydock
13.55 2m Listed Hurdle
Franciscan
He's won both his starts in fair style - his hurdling was a lot better at Musselburgh last time and he's got plenty of ability. He is improving at home as he gains experience over the hurdles and I think he has the ability to go well in races like this. The ground is the obvious concern this time - ideally I don't think he would want it too soft - but it's only a small field for a Listed race and these aren't the sort of opportunities you can be too picky about. Like I say, he's a horse with plenty of ability and if he handles the ground, he'd have to have a good chance.
14.30 2m7f Novice Chase
Up And Go
I've made no secret that I think a good deal of him and chasing was always destined to be his thing. He showed what he could do at Ascot last season and he's a horse with a great deal of ability. He's done plenty of schooling and he's been good at home - hopefully he can transfer that to the track. In an ideal world I would have started him off over 2 ½ miles but it's a small field for a valuable prize and he's getting weight off his rivals. He's notoriously difficult to get fit at home but I think he's pretty straight and he'll be going there with every chance.
15.05 2m4f Novice Hurdle
Classic Move
He's a lovely horse who won his bumper well at Sedgefield three weeks ago. That wouldn't have been his track at all and, with that in mind, I actually thought he was quite impressive. He will appreciate the step up in trip now he's going hurdling - he's won a point already and I don't think starting him out over the brush hurdles will be an issue. This looks a competitive race but it's the sort of event that I would hope he could go well in - he shows plenty at home and should have a bright future.
15.40 2m Bumper
Desoto County
We've won this a couple of times in recent years - Peddlers Cross made his debut for us in the race - and I think Desoto County is a nice horse. We bought him privately after he won his point and he's pleased me since he has been here. I suspect that this could prove a very strong race - it's a competitive card, even if there are some small fields - but we're going there with a nice prospect and hopefully he can go very close.

It's a busy Friday for Paul Nicholls as he sends runners to both Haydock and Ascot. Read on for our ambassador's exclusive thoughts on their chances...
13:20 Haydock - Fago
A very impressive winner on his debut for us at Newbury last season - a win that got us thinking in terms of the Arkle - but he lost his way after falling when set to win the Kingmaker at Warwick.
On the face of it, his last of six on his reappearance at Exeter was very disappointing but I made no secret of the fact beforehand that he would need it, and it was obviously it was a high class handicap too and a lot more competitive race than this. And he did have a small bleed at Exeter, too. He raced a little bit too keenly there, which also didn't help, but hopefully he can settle better today.
I suspect that he may need 2m4f this season to show his best, but let's see how he goes here. There may be only four runners but I have seen easier Graduation races.
14:05 Ascot - Irving
This horse has proved really exciting since coming to us after showing some pretty smart middle distance Flat form in Germany - when Nick rode him at home recently, he got off and said "Concorde" - so it was very pleasing to see him deliver on the track at Taunton last week, despite showing obvious signs of greenness and inexperience. He travelled beautifully throughout the race, and beat a couple of fair sorts in second and third with some ease. And when Nick got off he said "I told you he was a Concorde!".
I don't really like running horses so soon but this looked a good opportunity - and he will have a break after this - and he is an exciting prospect. Looks to have Nicky's very smart bumper winner Tradewinds to beat, and we have to give him 5lb, so that won't be easy.
14:30 Haydock - Black Thunder
Was a bit unfortunate not to win a handicap hurdle at this meeting last year but he delighted us when making a successful chasing debut when beating Fox Appeal at Fontwell. That was a pretty high level of form first time up, as the runner-up went on to run our Wonderful Charm to a length in the Rising Stars at Wincanton. This looks a pretty hot race too and he has his stamina to prove, but I don't think the trip will be a problem. Again, only four runners in here, but a very hot novice chase.
15:05 Haydock - Varom
Is more of a chasing prospect but hasn't done too badly in bumpers - he won in the French provinces, and was third at this meeting last year - and made a fair hurdling debut when second at Wetherby on his reappearance. I think the longer trip will suit today, and I can see him going well, though this again is a race full of quality, with Spirit Of Shankly probably the one to beat on hurdling form and plenty of promising and unexposed bumper/point winners in here.
15:15 Ascot - There's No Panic
Did not enjoy himself here on his reappearance, where I thought he would go well at a price. But he made errors and Harry thought that he frightened himself with a particularly bad mistake, so he pulled him up soon after. We have done a lot of schooling with him at home since, so hopefully he can show the benefit today. If he does, then I think he is fairly weighted off 132, but, although he has won in the soft, he wouldn't want a lot more rain.
15:50 Ascot - Brinestine
Has proved too free to do himself justice in the past but he settled much better at Taunton last week, and you saw the end result. He was pretty impressive in a six-length win and must have a fair shout of following up here under a 7lb penalty, especially as I think there is more to come from him.
The handicapper has raised him 12lb in future, so he is effectively 5lb well in today. Don't get too carried away by the Taunton form, though - the runner-up was well beaten at Warwick on Wednesday - and this is obviously a more competitive race. But you have to be hopeful of a good show, even though, as with Irving, I don't really like turning horses out again so soon. The handicapper has pretty much forced my hand, though.

DAILY MAIL.
The jury is out regarding the optimum trip of GREYWELL BOY (Ascot, nb, 2.40) who has run creditably at Ascot on his last two starts.
Both of those outings came over two miles and a furlong, but the manner of the performance suggests that an extra couple of furlongs should be within his compass.
Today’s test represents a drop in class for Greywell Boy who hails from a yard that have enjoyed an excellent month with some high-profile wins in France alongside domestic success.
Having followed ANNACOTTY (Ascot, 3.15) from the word go, it was pretty galling to see him register his first win over fences at odds of 8-1 last time.
I’d written off his Kempton chance after Martin Keighley’s charge had looked to lose confidence on his chasing debut at Exeter following a couple of early errors.
There was clearly plenty of intense schooling undertaken after the Exeter disappointment and the remedial work paid off with a handsome five-length defeat of Present View who boosted the form by scoring at Market Rasen on Thursday. Course winner Grove Pride looks the chief danger.
BALLYCULLA (Ffos Las, nap, 2.50) is owned by the No Dramas Partnership and supporters of the Westerner gelding will be hoping that’s the case today in south Wales.
The nap was highly impressive in victory at Exeter and looks to have scope for further improvement.

15:15 Friday 22nd November Racing Tips - 22/11/2013
4 year old Milord is an interesting runner at Ascot given he was 2nd to the very well regarded Carraig Mor last time. If he runs well it means the Alan King youngster deserves serious consideration for his race tomorrow but this race today is tough. I can't have Hammersly Lake at 4/1 on debut, who could be anything. Dunraven Storm is interesting after a good run up in class last time but preference of those at the top of the market has to be for Brinestine who looked very good ahead of Don Pooleoni last time at Taunton. He will appreciate drying ground and may be good enough to defy a 7lb penalty in pretty handy company. Best bet at the prices looks to be Population in a first time visor. I put him up last time when he was a staying on 3rd at Musselburgh but that doesn't mean he needs further necessarily. He didn't seem to appreciate a shower pre race and the ground was softer than good. The visor will hopefully help him travel as cheekpieces didn't appear to do the job last time. I think he's better than 6/1 suggests and Jack Quinlan takes off a useful 3lb. The yard is in good nick with its hurdlers this term and Population is a dual course and distance winner in bumpers so deserves to be nearer the head of the market. Ascot 15.50 - Population 1pt e/w
The preceding chase is a classy contest for it's Class 3 status and, of the top 2 in the betting, Annacotty looks worth respect. He finally got it together over fences last time and he has every chance here under a 7lb penalty. Bottom weight Night Alliance is too short on the basis of an easy win last time out in questionable company. There are a few a little bigger in the market that make appeal and the 2 most likely to score are Grove Pride and Duke Of Lucca. I will back them both and am finding it difficult to split them at the prices. Grove Pride represents a yard in form at 17/2 and goes well first up. His November form after the summer break reads 221 and he is only 3lb higher than for his last handicap start when 2nd over this trip in what was a mediocre jumping display. If putting in a better round he looks very well treated on only his 7th chase start with drying ground in is favour. Duke Of Lucca will also want the sun out and, at 9/1, must have a massive chance off 5lb lower than his Kempton 3rd in the Racing Plus Chase. First time blinkers are as interesting as they are concerning and yard form has to be respected. He has been below par on 2 starts this term but the ground and trip were against him last time, while the Chepstow run on penultimate start was just plain disappointing and I have a feeling, with both his last wins over further, he may want more of a test. All in all, with little between them in the market, Grove Pride gets the vote at 17/2. Ascot 15.15 - Grove Pride 1pt e/w

Sprinter Sacre "thrilled" Nicky Henderson in a schooling session ahead of his return in the BetVictor Tingle Creek at Sandown on December 7. Sprinter Sacre: On course for Tingle Creek The seven-year-old is unbeaten in 10 starts over fences and produced a breathtaking performance in last year's Tingle Creek and in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. He is already long odds-on to defend his Champion Chase crown in March and Henderson could not be happier with his stable star. He said: "He schooled on Friday morning and it's all systems go for the Tingle Creek. We're thrilled with him."

Barry Geraghty will be fine to partner Bobs Worth in Saturday's Betfair Chase at Haydock, despite suffering a nasty fall at Ascot on Friday. Geraghty and Henderson: Fine for Bobs Worth The Irishman took a knock on a leg when Hammersly Lake came down in the closing stages of the Canaccord Genuity Handicap Hurdle, after which the jockey limped back to the weighing room. After a debrief with trainer Nicky Henderson, Geraghty told reporters: "I'm grand for tomorrow."

Connections of Annie Power are under no illusions about the task facing the exciting mare when she puts her unbeaten record on the line in the Coral Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday. Annie Power: Suited by the race conditions The Willie Mullins-trained five-year-old has looked a potential superstar in seven starts to date, and signed off last season with a breathtaking Grade One victory against fellow mares at Fairyhouse. But she faces her most formidable rival yet in Zarkandar, a horse whose only defeat in five outings last season came when fourth behind the Mullins-trained Hurricane Fly in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. Mullins' son, Patrick, said: "She has obviously done everything right so far, but this is a big step up for her. Zarkandar is one of the top horses around over hurdles, especially over this distance, but the conditions of the race suit our mare. "She gets 11lb from Zarkandar and wouldn't have got as much weight if we'd gone for the Hatton's Grace in Fairyhouse the following week, so that's why we decided to travel." Annie Power tackles almost two and a half miles in Berkshire, but Patrick Mullins believes she is versatile trip-wise. He said: "As of now, she could go either way. I think this race will tell us a lot more about her, but, at the same time, she could finish second and run the best race of her life so far. "She's as ready as she can be without having had a run. We wouldn't be sending her over otherwise." Zarkandar signed off last season with a thrilling victory over The New One in the Aintree Hurdle and has had this race earmarked as his seasonal starting point since he returned from his summer break. Trainer Paul Nicholls said "It will be an interesting race. We've got to start somewhere. It's a long old season and this was always going to be Zarkandar's first race. "Willie was always going to send horses over and obviously the conditions of the race suit his horse. If I was him, I'd have done the same. "We'll see how things go. At some stage we'll have to decide which direction we're going, but I have no real future plans at this stage." Annie Power and Zarkandar are the two star names in a field of just four runners. Magnifique Etoile bolted up in a Stratford handicap last month, but trainer Charlie Longsdon is not expecting his charge to trouble the big two. Longsdon said: "He got heavily punished for his win last time. It'll be tough for him. I know he shouldn't beat the big two, but if there are any chinks in their armour he'll be on their heels to take advantage of it. "He will still pick up good prize-money for coming third, if that's where he comes. He's a real nice horse. We don't expect to beat those two but if they don't turn up he'll be there." The quartet is completed by Karen McLintock's northern raider Bygones Of Brid.

Ascot, 22 November 2013
1.30, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of MY DADS HORSE, ridden by Paul Moloney and trained by Evan Williams, which was settled at the back of the field before making progress in the home straight to finish third, beaten around 21 lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated that his instructions were to drop the gelding out in last place and to finish as close as possible. He said that the gelding had jumped sketchily early on and was outpaced before staying on. The trainer confirmed that those were his instructions and stated that the gelding had had a long layoff with a history of bleeding and leg problems. He added that MY DADS HORSE would be suited by a longer trip. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations.
3.15, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Andrew Thornton, the rider of GORING ONE (IRE), placed third, in the home straight. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip above the permitted level.
