Can Ryan Moore land a winner at Santa Anita on Saturday?
Our racing ambassador has four rides at Santa Anita on Saturday night and he provides his exclusive verdict on each as well as thoughts on the likely winners of each race...
All times GMT
19:43 Santa Anita - Dank
There are some proven Group/Grade 1 horses up against Dank in this race - and most of them are racing on their home turf, which gives them an obvious advantage - but you have to believe that she is the one to beat on her Arlington win.
Dank didn't have the ideal preparation before finishing third at Royal Ascot in June, but she thrived physically afterwards, and won nicely in an admittedly weakish Group 2 at The Curragh on her next start. So we went to the Beverly D last time out expecting a very big run, and she delivered with a wide-margin win.
She looks to have the beating of the home team on that victory but the bare form of that win doesn't give her that much in hand on some of these, and I would especially respect the chances of Romantica on better ground. She was pretty impressive in the Romanet and found the testing ground against her in the Vermeille last time. Overall, this looks a pretty competitive race, so it certainly won't be easy for my filly.
22:22 Santa Anita - Magician
Had a troubled preparation when finishing last in the St James's Palace Stakes back in June, and has obviously not been out since. But Aidan must be happy with him for him to be lining up here. He has always been high up the three-year-old pecking order at Ballydoyle and he really impressed me when I won the Dee Stakes on him at Chester.
They could quite have easily gone down the Epsom route after that, but he showed me a lot of pace there and they took in a winnable Irish 2,000 Guineas, where he did it really well. He looks as if 1m4f on fast ground on a tight track will suit him well, and I can see him running a good race.
But clearly it would be one hell of a training performance were he to win this after such a break and others in here have far more solid claims. The Fugue has a good opportunity to atone for her unlucky third in the Filly and Mare Turf here last year, and clearly 1m4f on fast ground is no problem for her on a track such as this. And she probably is the form horse. Little Mike beat Point Of Entry in this race last year but I think the runner-up is maybe the best US horse in here on the balance of form.
23:40 Santa Anita - Cristoforo Colombo
He may have been beaten by Silver Max last time, but you have to say that last year's impressive winner Wise Dan is by far the likeliest winner of this race. Whether or not he deserves to be odds-on, I'm not so sure.
Olympic Glory bids to follow up his soft-ground win in the QEII a fortnight ago, and that is a quick turnaround, especially in Group 1 company when factoring in a trip across the Atlantic and much different racing conditions. It's a big ask. But on form he is bang there and he does act on better ground, so I can see the argument for him.
Cristoforo Colombo has yet to recapture his two-year-old form this season and the only time he has raced over this trip he finished fifth in the Guineas. But he is the kind of horse who could well excel over 1m on fast ground round here and I believe Aidan is happy with him. That said, he could run a career-best and still finish fourth or fifth, so realistically a place looks the height of his chances.
00:35am Santa Anita - Planteur
Is a Group 1 winner and finished third in the Dubai World Cup for me this year, so you can't be too dismissive of his chances. And maybe a first time hood will help him. But it would probably need to bring about a stone worth of improvement to see him competitive against the likes of Game On Dude, Mucho Macho Man, and Fort Larned. And he did run badly in the Dollar, so he deserves to be a big outsider here.
Declaration of War is a fascinating contender for Aidan and Joseph, having followed up his excellent Marois fourth for me when winning at York last time. He has the toughness and class to make his presence felt, but obviously the surface - as well as a very strong home team - is the issue. But he is American-bred and I have a sneaking suspicion that he could run a big race at odds of around 8-1. But winning this race is never an easy task and there are some big guns lined up against him.

Mount Athos will have to defy stall 22 of 24 if he is to finally deliver Emirates Melbourne Cup glory to trainer Luca Cumani and owner Dr Marwan Koukash at Flemington on Tuesday. Cumani: Trying to look on the bright side Second favourite with local bookmakers after his unlucky fifth a year ago, Mount Athos will break inside two of his fellow travellers, 2011 runner-up Red Cadeaux (23) and Ruscello, who earned a surprise place after winning the Lexus Stakes but is on the outside of the field. Happier were Michael Owen and Tom Dascombe with Brown Panther (6), Marco Botti for Caulfield Cup runner-up Dandino (4) and Alain de Royer-Dupre for Verema (3). It will be slightly trickier for Jamie Spencer and former winner Dunaden in the coffin stall one, while Godolphin's Royal Empire and Willie Mullins' Simenon are alongside each other in 11 and 12 respectively. Sky Bet's 6/1 favourite Fiorente, formerly with Sir Michael Stoute but now Gai Waterhouse, is in a favourable five. "It's not a problem for me, it is for Craig Williams, but at least we won't be in the stalls too long," said Cumani. "The horse is absolutely spot on, it just depends how the race pans out." Ed Dunlop said of Red Cadeaux: "He doesn't owe us anything anyway, but it will be tough for him from there." Owen, joint owner and breeder of Brown Panther, said: "It's probably an ideal draw and I can't wait for Tuesday now." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At Fishers Cross is likely to head for the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury later this month after being forced to miss an intended run at Wetherby. At Fishers Cross: Newbury now the plan One of last season's leading novice hurdlers after striking in the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival and subsequently at Aintree's Grand National meeting, the Rebecca Curtis-trained six-year-old was due to make his reappearance in today's bet365 Hurdle. However, after arriving in West Yorkshire on Friday night, At Fishers Cross suffered a cut to his leg, scuppering his participation in the Grade Two contest. Curtis is pleased to report the injury is not serious and hopes to have her stable star ready to run on Hennessy Gold Cup day at Newbury on November 30. Curtis said: "It's nothing serious and he's going to be absolutely fine. "He got to Wetherby last night and for some reason he spooked at his own shadow, fell down on one of his knees and got a cut. "It's very superficial and he's perfectly sound this morning. We're not running him as a precaution. "As long as he's all right when we get him home, we'll try and get him right for Newbury. That would be the next option for him."

14:40 Sunday 3rd November Racing Tips - 03/11/2013
Lucinda Rusell won the Cumberland Handicap Chase at Carlisle for three years running back in '08, '09 and '10, and sends out Bescot Springs today with champion jockey Tony McCoy at the reins. He has dropped back to his last winning mark and a recent 2nd to Knockara Beau off 1lb higher shows he is in decent form. That came over the same trip as today and he's not badly priced at 4/1. Jaunty Journey has run into some real stayers on 2 of his last 3 starts but won over today's trip at Exeter and could still be competitive off 9lb higher, especially given yard form. However, Global Power is 6lb better off with the Twiston-Davies charge for their Exeter run and he still finished ahead of him that day. Not seen since, he perhaps didn't quite see it out and will appreciate a slight drop back in trip. He has won first time out before and I thought he'd be favourite so 11/2 is worth taking. Carlisle 15.45 - Global Power 1pt e/w
Tony McCoy again rides for Lucinda Russell in the Listed Chase and Tap Night looks something of a banker at 6/4. He lacked consistency last term but won on heavy ground at Ayr over an extra furlong and looks to have an edge on the rest of these, espeilly getting weight from all but one of them. He had little chance in the Arkle but followed up with 2 good seconds behind Captain Conan and the horse I think could win the Paddy Power, Rajdhani Express. It may be that connections have had to revise their expectations but this should be well within reach and he'll likely shorten further. The other of interest is rank outsider Violin Davis who looked a progressive chaser before disappointing last time out at Cheltenham in April. She has won on heavy and is a Grade 2 winner over hurdles so something like that form translated to fences would give her a chance at a decent price. She will have had to come on quite a bit to match the favourite though, in receipt of only 7lb whence technically she has 19lb to find. Carlisle 14.40 - Tap Night 3pt win
There's a big handicap at Cork and I'm quite sweet on the favourite Ipsos Du Berlais for the trainer that won this 6 year ago. He is inexperienced but could be well treated on handicap debut and would be of particular interest if a little bigger in the market. Bottom-weight Sword Fish has the blinkers back on that were omitted for a disappointing effort at Limerick last time. A well beaten favourite that day, he lines up here at 16/1 off only 7lb higher than when winning over 3 miles 1 furlong at Fairyhouse in similar conditions. The other to side with looks to be Grand National 8th Tarquinius for a yard in good form. At 10/1, he's a little shorter than ideal but will appreciate a real test, though not quite to the extent of the Aintree race. A staying on 2nd to Jadanli in January over 3 furlongs shorter puts him right in the mix off 6lb higher and jockey Keith Donoghue is 1 from 1 on him. I'd like to see Themoonandsixpence run well after a troubled few years but he's still a risk to side with. Cork 15.25 - Tarquinius 1pt e/w Cork 15.25 - Sword Fish 1pt e/w

David Pipe hopes Grands Crus has the best possible start to the season in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Series Qualifier) at Kempton on Monday. Grands Crus: Returns to hurdling The Nicholashayne trainer has picked a low-key race for the talented grey's return to action after enduring a difficult last campaign over hurdles and fences. However, the eight-year-old has to give upwards of 16lb to his five rivals in the two-mile five-furlong heat. "He could mix it up this season. Basically we want to try and find as easy a race as possible for his comeback," Pipe told At The Races. "Tom Scudamore schooled him and he jumped nicely and we are just trying to get him back on track. "It was a frustrating season with him last year, we thought he was back on track after he ran such a great race in the King George but he did have a hard race that day and it probably took it out of him and he left his season there. "He's summered well and we'll make more of a plan after Kempton. He's quite adaptable, he showed at Aintree back over hurdles that he travelled and jumped well for a long way. We just want to see him back in the winner's enclosure

Officials at Redcar are optimistic their final Flat race of the meeting on Tuesday will go ahead despite having to call an inspection for noon on Monday. Redcar: Monday inspection The course is currently unraceable following 15 millimetres of rain on Saturday and overnight but with a favourable weather forecast hopes are high it will dry out . "We had 15 millimetres of rain yesterday, most of it overnight, so we've got standing water in one of two places. We are going to take a look tomorrow at midday for the first time officially," said clerk of the course James Sanderson. "We have got a nice drying day forecast for today and hopefully tomorrow as well, so we are very optimistic. We are just being cautious. "We can't race at the moment, so we need to say something about it, but we are very optimistic racing will go ahead on Tuesday." The going was described as soft, heavy in places with standing water in places.

Joseph O'Brien was officially crowned champion Irish Flat jockey for a second consecutive year as the season came to an end at Leopardstown on Sunday. It's been a good season for the O'Brien family O'Brien, who was not in action at the Foxrock venue as he was returning home from the Breeders' Cup meeting in America, rode a record-breaking 126 domestic winners. The jockey had claimed 87 victories in 2012. O'Brien's father, Aidan, was named champion Irish Flat trainer for the 18th time. The Ballydoyle handler struck three times on Leopardstown's card to take his domestic tally to 124 winners for the campaign. Connor King scooped the gong for leading Irish apprentice after securing 38 winners. Jackie Bolger, wife of trainer Jim, was named leading owner thanks largely due to Trading Leather, winner of the Irish Derby at the Curragh in June.

Carlisle, 3 November 2013
Due to the ground conditions, the Stewards gave permission for Fence 4 to be omitted in all steeple chases.
3.10, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Sean Quinlan, the rider of the winner, BEAUBOREEN (IRE), from the second last hurdle. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Quinlan for 2 days as follows: Sunday 17 and Monday 18 November 2013.
03/11/2013
Huntingdon, 3 November 2013
4.00, seventh race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of FATHER EDWARD (IRE), ridden by Denis O’Regan and trained by John Ferguson, which was tenderly handled in the home straight, to finish sixth beaten 34 lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated that his instructions were to sit handy, to get the horse to settle and to go on and win if he could. However the gelding ran freely, and was doing too much through most of the race, which he reported at scales. He added that whilst he travelled well to go with the winner around the final bend, FATHER EDWARD (IRE) emptied quickly early in the straight and in the best interests of the horse he felt it prudent to keep him balanced to get him to the line and would have finished no closer had he pushed any more vigorously. The trainer confirmed the instructions and confirmed that he was satisfied with the ride given to FATHER EDWARD (IRE). Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations.

Huntingdon, 3 November 2013
1.15, second race
The Stewards considered the running of SUPERIOR QUALITY (IRE), ridden by Noel Fehily and trained by Charlie Longsdon, which finished fourth. The Stewards noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that SUPERIOR QUALITY (IRE) had an abnormal scope post-race.
3.30, sixth race
The Stewards considered the running of DOM LUKKA (FR), ridden by Charlie Deutsch and trained by Charlie Longsdon, which finished unplaced. They noted the trainer’s representative could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance. They ordered DOM LUKKA (FR) to be routine tested.

OWNER and professional punter Stephen Arnold, who has master minded several hefty gambles over the last couple of years, is facing the prospect of being warned off after laying ten of his runners to lose.
Arnold, 44, admits the offences set to be announced by the BHA as early as Monday, but insists there was no corrupt intent and that in each instance he laid the horses on Betfair in an endeavour to back them for substantial sums at the best price available with bookmakers.
The charges stem from a BHA investigation into the Brown Pete affair at Wolverhampton last December, when another three of Arnold's horses were withdrawn from a race won by Brown Pete amid claims of transport problems. Arnold afterwards admitted winning around £130,000, together with his associates.
The ten all weather races at the centre of the BHA disciplinary inquiry scheduled for December 5 involve nine of Arnold's horses and cover the period between June 18, 2012 and March 15 this year. A guilty verdict would be expected to result in a lengthy term of disqualification.
In all but one of the races Arnold was either a net backer on Betfair, or placed equal bets.
The exception was the Cut The Cackle race at Lingfield on January 5 when, after laying the mare to the sum of £64.73, Arnold also placed coinciding back bets totalling £51, which meant he profited whether she won or lost.
Arnold admitted: "I'm being charged with so called laying, but it's not what I would describe as laying horses and not what I understood to be laying horses.
"Everybody knows horses crash on Betfair for a matter of pounds in the morning and all the bookies follow suit, so if I fancied one of mine I would try to hold the price out for a few pounds. Once we had got our money on with bookmakers I would then back the horse to make sure I couldn't profit from it losing, believing that wasn't laying horses. Clearly I miscalculated with Cut The Cackle, but that was just an innocent mistake.
"When the Brown Pete stuff happened obviously I had to hand over my Betfair records and I asked them [the BHA] at the time if what I had been doing was a problem and they said 'yes', so obviously I've never done it since, but there were a few occasions before that. So although I was cleared in respect of Brown Pete, now they're charging me with so called laying of horses."
The rules over licensed individuals laying their horses on betting exchanges have been tightened since part owners Anthony Ramsden and Robert Owen were fined rather than disqualified over the laying of Mickmacmagoole at Southwell in 2005 after the pair, like Arnold, argued they laid the horse to small amounts in order to preserve the price to back it on the day of the race.
Arnold has 21 horses under the Rakebackmypoker.com banner with trainer Violet Jordan, whom he on Sunday informed that he had been charged on Friday. The size of her Warwickshire based operation would be more than halved if she loses his patronage.
Of Arnold's 65 Flat winners over the past three years, 17 have come this season.
Arnold, who will be represented by solicitor Rory Mac Neice at next month's hearing, added: "I don't think I've done anything wrong, but the way they [the BHA] read their rules they say I have. To me, laying a horse is profiting from it getting beaten, and that wasn't what I was doing.
"I can't deny what they're saying, but what I do argue with is that the rules about laying horses aren't very clear."
Brown Pete, who features on the charge sheet after being laid to £50 by Arnold when beaten in a race at Lingfield last November, runs in the Coral App Download From The App Store Handicap at Wolverhampton on Monday.
The BHA declined to comment on Sunday.

AP McCoy: Current career winners 3996
After riding doubles on both Saturday and Sunday, AP McCoy is within touching distance of the landmark as he heads to Kempton Park for three booked rides.
13.05: Chalk It Down
Hasn't quite gone on as might have been hoped for after winning on debut but not disgraced on his hurdling bow and could well build on that run. This does look a fair race, however, and he may need further in time. Forecast price: 10/1
13.35: Captain Cutter
Very highly regarded bumper winner from a top yard. Should know his job and looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to open his hurdling account at the first time of asking. Forecast price: 5/6
15.45: Foundation Man
Only showed a modicum of promise in bumpers (beaten favourite both starts) and over hurdles but came within a whisker of a maiden success on his first run over fences. Up in the weights and up in trip but open to improvement and looks sure to go well. Forecast price: 7/4

The Melbourne Cup is a fiendishly tricky puzzle to solve and while Ryan likes his ride's chances, the same can be said of a few in the field...
Melbourne Cup Dandino 04.00am Flemington, Tuesday Although the race-rhythm of the Melbourne Cup is unique and history pretty much counts for little, I think it is fair to say that I know a lot of the fancied horses in here pretty well.
Going down in weight order, I have ridden Green Moon, Red Cadeaux, Sea Moon, Fiorente, Dandino, Mount Athos and Simenon, so you would think that I would have a pretty good idea of their merits.
In terms of pure talent, I would probably say that Sea Moon was the best of that bunch. Because, on his day, he was a top-class horse when the boss had him, as he showed when winning the Voltigeur by 8 lengths from Al Kazeem and when beating Dunaden by 3 1/2 lengths in the Hardwicke - where Red Cadeaux and Fiorente were well behind him.
So I am delighted to see that he has come good in Australia once again.
But I also won two Royal Ascot races in the space of five days on Simenon, finished Group 1-placed in a Coronation Cup and a Hong Kong Vase on 2011 Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux, won a Princess Of Wales's on Fiorente, a Geoffrey Freer on Mount Athos, and partnered Dandino to an American St Leger win recently, so the others certainly don't lack for class either.
And that is what makes this race so difficult to win. Because it is basically full of Group 1 horses in a handicap that all have the ability to win if things fall their way. And in this 24-runner race, you need luck, trust me.
Obviously, things didn't pan out ideally for Mount Athos in this race last year.
But - like I said here in a piece a couple of months ago, so go and read it if you want the full story, as I am not going over it all again - while I was gutted after the race, I don't think I could have done a lot different.
Mount Athos can be a tricky horse. But he must come in here with a big chance if it all clicks into place for him, as his second to Harris Tweed - with Tac de Boistron and Camborne in behind - at Goodwood last time could not have worked out much better. In fact, it probably makes him the pick of the weights. A draw in 22 certainly isn't ideal, mind you.
I am certainly happy to be riding Dandino though and there are worse draws than his in stall four. The jury is out whether he stays 2m - his record clearly shows you that, and that is the question mark about him in this - but he is a very talented and straightforward horse, and the promise of his second in the Caulfield Cup last time was there for all to see. He comes into this race at the peak of his powers, and is a horse that travels and quickens, and gives you options.
You also have to give Simenon a great shout, and I was surprised to see that he is around a 20-1 chance on Betfair.
Around this time last year, Willie was getting him ready for a hurdling campaign, so it would be a great training feat for him to go and win this race a year later. He ran really well on the Flat in the summer and has all the attributes that you need to go close, and his third to Sea Moon over 1m4f at Caulfield last time was very promising and showed that he is not a one-dimensional stayer.
In summary, I don't think this is a race which you can go into being overly-confident, but I have a leading chance, that's all I can say.
But so do about a dozen others, and that's the problem and reality when running for such a valuable and prestigious prize. And the wide-open betting underlines that.

John Gosden has made three entries as he bids to win the Betfred November Handicap for a sixth time at Doncaster when the curtain falls on the turf season on Saturday. Thomas Hobson: One of three possible runners for John Gosden The Newmarket trainer, successful with Hieroglyphic (1991), Turgenev (1992), Sabadilla (1997), Charm School (2009) and Zuider Zee (2011), is considering Aiken, Lahaag and Thomas Hobson for the mile and a half feature this time. Aiken is the classiest of the trio but has failed to sparkle so far this term, while Lahaag was a good winner at York last month and Thomas Hobson struck over this course and distance at the last meeting. Brian Ellison is double-handed in a 36-strong entry with Autun and Twelve Strings. The North Yorkshire trainer is keen to run both, although Autun will first have to pass a stalls test at Southwell on Tuesday. Autun only joined the Ellison string last week after being bought for £37,000 at the Horses In Training Sales at Tattersalls out of Lady Cecil's stable. "We had him in the stalls today and he was fine," said Ellison. "He's a lovely horse with real quality. I haven't spoken to the owner yet, but I don't seen why he shouldn't run." Twelve Strings is not guaranteed a place in the line-up but advertised his claims with an emphatic victory at Nottingham last week. "He won well last week and I'm hoping the ground stays on the easy side. He goes there in good form. He'll get in the race, I think," said Ellison. Other entries include the Charlie Hills-trained duo of Forgotten Hero and Zipp, the Luca Cumani-trained Ajman Bridge, Roger Charlton's Border Legend and the Richard Fahey pair of Hi There and Kiama Bay.

The All-Weather Championships continue with a twilight fixture at Kempton Park on Wednesday, November 6, which is headlined by the £37,000 Listed Winners Are Welcome At Betdaq Floodlit Stakes. Brian Meehan: Trains Great Hall A field of seven is set to go to post for the mile and a half contest, including the Brian Meehan-trained Great Hall, who will wear blinkers for the first time. The three-year-old was last seen finishing a creditable ninth in the Group One Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on September 15, having previously annexed a valuable handicap at Haydock Park in July and a 12-furlong maiden at Newmarket in June. Kieren Fallon rides the Halling colt again. Meehan reported: "Great Hall is in good form and ran a nice race in the St Leger when the ground was too soft for him. We have put the blinkers on just to help him because Kempton will be the sharpest track he has run at. The surface will be fine for him and I wouldn't have any concerns about the drop back in trip." Great Hall's rivals include Urban Dance, a three-year-old Street Cry half-brother to Masterstroke, who will be aiming to give Godolphin a fifth consecutive win in the Floodlit Stakes after victories for Spring Of Fame (2012), Prince Bishop (2011), Mastery (2010) and Once More Dubai (2009). Urban Dance's trainer Charlie Appleby was successful at the Breeders' Cup in America on Friday with Outstrip. John Gosden, who went close to Breeders' Cup success with The Fugue, will be represented by 2012 Royal Ascot hero Gatewood, partnered by William Buick. Glorious Goodwood scorer Pether's Moon also brings good form to the table for champion trainer Richard Hannon. Smart mare Jehannedarc, Opera Box and Aussie Reigns complete the septet. Horsted Keynes is the headline act in the following Betdaq 1st UK Race Commission Free Handicap as he goes in search of a four-timer. The Roger Varian-trained three-year-old landed a similar contest at Lingfield last Thursday, October 31, and will shoulder a six pound penalty

Oscar Whisky could make his debut over fences in the Rising Stars Novices' Chase at Wincanton on Saturday. Oscar Whisky: Possible chasing debut at Wincanton Nicky Henderson's eight-year-old disappointed in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle last season and having gone on to be a well-held fourth in the Aintree Hurdle, the decision to go chasing has been made and he could head to Wincanton's Grade Two contest on Saturday. Paul Nicholls has two entered in the race including recent Fontwell scorer Black Thunder, but he has also entered Wonderful Charm. The five-year-old was eighth in the World Hurdle on only his second start in Britain but landed the odds at Fakenham on his seasonal reappearance by a margin of eight lengths. Alan King has two entries with Pantxoa attempting to step up from his three wins in handicap company. The Barbury Castle handler could also give an opportunity for Meister Eckhart to make his debut over fences. The lightly raced seven-year-old was second in the Coral Cup last season and placed in a Listed race at Aintree having caught the eye in the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell. Colin Tizzard has entered Third Intention. The six-year-old took the scalp of Rebel Fitz in what turned out to be a match race at Cheltenham and is likely to face a numerically stronger opposition on Saturday. Emma Lavelle has given herself the option of racing Gullinbursti and Fox Appeal, while Dursey Sound and Next Oasis complete the entries.
