The Grand Slam Darts begins tomorrow and offers fans a rare chance to see Ted Hankey in action. The Count has struggled badly since switching to the PDC and only qualifies by virtue of being 2009 BDO champ rather off the back of good form. In recent months, things have gone from bad to worse, suffering a car crash and not playing competitively since July. Back two time finalist Scott Waites to inflict a 5-0 whitewash at 8/1. Looking briefly at the tournament as a whole, all of Taylor, Lewis, Van Gerwen and Wade have been drawn in the top half, so a confident Raymond van Barneveld will fancy taking advantage and successfully defending his title.

We have reached the end of the year for the European tour and the DP world Tour in Dubai will host the finale. Now it had supposed to be the top 60 players in the race to Dubai but Garcia, Else and Schwartzel were banned for not competing in 2 of the last 3 tournaments. The odds on offer are not great and it has been difficult to find some sort of value. But we have managed to select a few that we believe stand a good chance.
The Jumeirah Course is a monster at 7,675 yards. Distance off the tee and GIR will be a huge factor. Rory Mcilroy comes into this tournament as favourite at 7/1, and although he is coming back into form and it would be great to see him win it, I think the odds are a little skinny to bet on. He shot a -23 last year but I don’t think we will be seeing those kind of scores this year as the course will be made more difficult.
Henrik Stenson @ 12/1
Carrying a slight injury is a worry but Stenson has be the best player in the world this year and he could be the first person ever to win both the PGA and European tours! You can still get him at 12/1 and if he is anywhere near his best he will be tough to beat, with his long distance and laser accuracy, we could see history in the making!
Nicolas Colsaerts @ 60/1
My outsider bet. Colsaerts has not been in great form lately but he does hit it a country mile and if he can keep it straight he could be in with a sniff. Back him E/W
Paul Casey @ 30/1
There is no doubting Casey’s abilities tee to green. His driving has been excellent lately . He has finished 6th and 16th at this course and is a double winner at Abu Dhabi, so the credentials are there and at 30/1 may be a threat.
Peter Hanson @ 33/1
Superb with his Irons and hitting some form now. Hanson has never finished outside the top 20 at this course!

Headline fights take place on both sides of the Atlantic this weekend. Carl Froch puts his WBA and IBF super-middleweight belts on the line against George Groves in Manchester, with the Cobra a 2/7f to inflict a first defeat on 19-0 Groves. It's a baptism of fire for the 25yo Londoner, who has stopped 5/6 opponents since getting a disputed decision against James DeGale in 2011.
Groves split from trainer Adam Booth recently, but he knows what he's getting from Froch so that shouldn't have a big bearing on this fight. Froch's win over Kessler in May had the feel of a testimonial, and at 36 he's there to be knocked off his perch. Whether Groves is up to it we'll find out, but 13/2 on a decision win for the challenger is worth an investment.
Later on Sunday, Manny Pacquiao laces his gloves for the first time since getting sparked by Juan Manuel Marquez last December as he takes on Brandon Rios in Macau. Much has been made of Manny's fall but he's only 34 and the body should be able to hit the heights, yet this is his 62nd professional bout so we'll see how sharp the mind is. The effect of Typhoon Haiyan on the Philippines should have streamlined this and he's 8/13 to gain a 39th career stoppage.

Though the Saints are generally a pass-first team with QB Drew Brees at the helm, they should be able to run riot in Atlanta this evening as they take on the reeling Falcons. Ranked 28th in the NFL against the rush, the Falcons allowed Tampa's Bobby Rainey to steamroll for over 160 yards and three scores last weekend, and will likely struggle to contain a triple-pronged attack of Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles. The latter is banged-up and could miss out though, allowing more opportunity for Ingram to stake his claim. The versatile Thomas will likely get the bulk of the early-down work but the powerful Ingram will get his fair share also, especially in the red zone and at the goal line, so the 21/10 about him punching in a touchdown certainly appeals.

Last year's Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund are facing elimination tonight if they fail to beat Napoli at the Westfalenstadion. BVB have lost their last three, including 3-0 to Bayern on Saturday, and the wily wizard Rafa Benitez will have a plan to esape from Germany with the point they need; Dortmund look worth opposing at 8/13.
Arsenal are 1/4 to keep Marseille pointless and guarantee qualification at the Emirates, while Celtic are 2/1 welcoming Milan to Parkhead knowing a win would likely give them control of their destiny, before a final day visit to the Nou Camp. A draw isn't enough so 13/8 on the Rossoneri to punish ambition appeals.
Chelsea lost to Basel at the Bridge but have won their three subsequent matches 11-0 on aggregate. 17/20 in Switzerland doesn't look too bad in this light but they don't need to win. Most intriguing/dodgy fixture is the early match in Russia, where Atletico Madrid, who have won 16 of 18 matches this season, are 5/2 to beat Zenit. Granted, they have qualified and Zenit need to win to keep Porto at bay, but the market is playing this one right by coming for the Spaniards.

TIP OF THE DAY Several tennis specials priced up for 2014 and one that takes our eye is top non-Europe & Americas player, with Sportingbet going Nishikori 1/3, Kevin Anderson 5/2, and 25/1 bar. Kei could be a top-10 guy but how long his body is going to hold up on tour is anyone's guess, while Anderson is solid but limited. The price looks vastly inflated on the others. Tomic at 25/1 is huge if he gets his act together, while a healthy Hewitt is worth keeping onside at 100/1.

EYE CATCHER Valencia avenged Swansea's win at the Mestalla last night, but the pressure is still on Miroslav Djukic and Osasuna can keep up their good away form on Sunday.

TIP OF THE DAY Over just 11 legs, it's difficult to make a case for backing anyone at short odds, outside of Phil Taylor. Michael van Gerwen has had a brilliant couple of years, but his form has clearly tailed off of late, failing to reach the quarter-finals at his last three attempts. As such, Jamie Lewis is big at 6/1 to cause an upset at the Players Championship this evening. The up-and-coming Welshman recorded a last 8 spot at the weekend and 6-4 and 6-3 defeats when the pair met previously - and when MVG was in prime form - show he can hold his own. Another bet to look at is Phil Taylor to out-180 Paul Nicholson. The Power has been hitting maximums more regularly of late, so odds against is generous. Looking at the tournament as a whole, the draw brackets make interesting reading, with Adrian Lewis and van Gerwen drawn to meet in round two. Look to Ian White, Brendan Dolan or even Jelle Klaasen to take advantage of relatively easy paths to the semi-finals.

TIP OF THE DAY Small and testing greens means scrambling will prove key in this week's Hong Kong Open. Last year's leaderboard had four of the top six ranking in the European Tour top-20 for this stat, and leading our quartet this week is the 2013 tour scrambling leader Robert-Jan Derksen at 33/1. The Dutchman loves Hong Kong Golf Club as his recent form on the course proves (reading 15-3-11) and he finished the 2013 season in solid form with top-20 finishes in three of his last four events.
