Well after last week I’m still flying, and didn’t do too bad at Epson on Tuesday either. The correction is bound to come, let’s hope it’s not today!
Haydock 14.50 Cl 2 Handicap 155 (89.2) 7f hd/fm – 13 Run
Marshal Dan 6-9-4 (89) Dr 12 (4.9)
03/04/21 Cl 3 Hcap (77/87.5) 7f gd Muss 9-3 9/2 2/11 0.75 l off 88
pressed leader, led after 2f, headed narrowly and ridden over 2f out, rallied to lead inside final furlong, headed close home
Plus: class (W); going (W); distance (W); course (W); form run lto (21 days);
Minus: up in class; up 1lb (wt); up 1lb (OR);
Verdict: consistent last year and returned in the same vein, only just going down at Musselburgh on his return; raised 1lb for that , which puts him 5lbs above his highest winning mark; only drawback is the high draw which he may overcome.
Persuasion 4-9-8 (93) Dr 7 (5.2)
13/10/20 Cl 2 Hcap (120/91.0) 7f hv Leic 9-3 14/1 2/9/2 l off 92
close up, pushed along 3f out, ridden and headway approaching final furlong, stayed on
Plus: class (W); going (W); distance (W); form run lto;
Minus: course (?); 193-day break; up 5lbs (wt); up 1lb (OR);
Verdict: won a Cl 2 mdn over 7f as a 2yo, but failed to add to his tally last season; however, final race at Leicester suggested he’d turned the corner.
Dreamloper 4-9-6 (91) Dr 3 (5.6)
5/9/20 Cl 2 Hcap (225/89.6) 8f gd Ascot 8-8 9/2 1/10 0.25 l off 85
dwelt, soon tracking leaders in main group, went 2nd over 1f out, ridden to lead inside final furlong, stayed on
Plus: class (W); going (W); distance (W); form run lto;
Minus: course (?); up 12lbs (wt); up 6lbs (OR); 231-day break;
Verdict: unraced at 2yo and debut in June, improved as season went on and won over 8f final start, staying on well; perhaps won’t be suited by drop back in trip first time up.
Rushed on this but going for Marshal Dan from Persuasion and Dreamloper.
Sandown 15.40 Gr 3 Handicap Chase 647 (139.5) 29f gd – 16 Run
Crosspark 11-11-12 (150) (2.6)
‘19/20 record: 0/0/3
‘20/21 record: 0/5/6 Best: 286.9 off 140 carrying 11-12 (Cl 2 HCh 24f gd Ascot)
28/03/21 Cl 2 HCh (108/139.6) 24f gd Ascot 11-12 4/1 2/7 2.75 l off 150
waited with in last pair, good headway on inside tracking leaders 12th, went 2nd before last, strong challenge run-in, no extra final 110 yards, just held on for 2nd
Plus: class (F); going (F); distance (W); course (F); form run lto (27 days);
Minus: up in class;
Verdict: hasn’t won since taking the Eider off 135 in Feb ’19, but still in fine form being runner-up in 5 of his 6 starts this season; not perhaps the likely winner, but no surprise were he to make the frame.
Kitty’s Light 5-11-1 (139) (6.8)
‘20/21 record: 4/2/6 Best: 268.7 off 135 carrying 11-4 (Cl 2 HCh 26f gd/sf Kelso)
27/03/21 Cl 2 HCh (182/133.7) 26f gd/sf Kelso 11-1 9/2 1/7 0.25 l off 135
held up in rear, not fluent 6th, headway 14th, mistake next, outpaced after 3 out, rallied and switched left after 2 out, not much room and switched right before last, switched right flat, stayed on, led close home
Plus: going (W); distance (W); form run lto (28 days);
Minus: class (?); course (?); up in class; up 4lbs (OR);
Verdict: showed promise when 3.3l 3rd to El Presente (+25) in the Badgers Beer and confirmed that promise when scoring at Kelso lto; looks likely to be even better over today’s trip.
Enrilo 7-11-5 (143) (9.3)
‘19/20 record: 1/0/3
‘20/21 record: 2/1/4 Best: 273.2 off 138 carrying 11-5 (Cl 3 NHCh 23.5f gd/sf Newb)
21/02/21 Cl 3 NHCh (70/135.2) 23.5f gd/sf Newb 11-5 2/1 F 1/6 0.5 l off 138
prominent, led 3rd, joined 8th, 2nd jumping 9th, joined leader 10th, led 12th, narrow 2nd 14th, cruised into lead 4 out, nudged after 3 out and joined, still travelling well when led last, soon ridden and wandered, all out
Plus: going (W); course (Wh); form run lto;
Minus: class; distance (?); 62-day break; up 5lbs (OR); up 2 classes;
Verdict: trained by the champion trainer like many before, and obviously earmarked for this after his Newbury success in February; however, the way he only just got home in this raises the question of whether he’ll stay this longer trip; could be that he’ll cope, but looks a mite short to be taking that chance.
Can’t fancy Plan Of Attack even though the first time blinkers seemed to suit when he fell in the Kim Muir; his form this season has been nothing like his mark. I may be wrong, but he’s not for me. I’m also a little dubious about Enrilo staying the trip, although surely Nicholls is certain. However, I’m going with the 5yo Kitty’s Light and am taking a chance on top weight
Crosspark taking second ahead of Enrilo.
