Banger is having problems with his computer. He can get onto the internet but after a few seconds it goes off and he gets an error 'message 680' Searching the net for this error code and this is what I found ; --------------------------------------------------------- Error Message: Error 680: There is no dial tone. Translation: This one is fairly straightforward; you’re attempting to use your modem to dial out and it can’t find a dial tone. The difficulty comes in determining which of many possible issues is causing the error. Solution: It’s time for some old-fashioned troubleshooting. First, check the basics: • Do you have the phone cable plugged in to both the modem port (not the RJ-45 port) and a phone jack? • Is the phone jack working? When you plug a telephone into it can you pick up the receiver and hear a dial tone? • If you do hear a dial tone, is it continuous? Some lines have broken tones that indicate unheard voicemails. This can keep the modem from recognizing a dial tone. If this is the case, you can insert a few commas in front of the dial-up number to force the modem to pause long enough to get past the broken tone. • If you have another cable available, try it. A bad cable could be the problem. Next, check the modem. Is it turned on? When you try to dial out, are the lights blinking? If they’re not, the modem might be damaged. If it’s possible, attach another modem to see if that solves the problem. Now onto software and system issues: • Do you have the correct and most up-to-date driver? To find out, click Start, Control Panel, double-click Phone And Modem Options, and select your modem under the Modems tab. Click Properties and make note of the information under the Driver tab. Visit the manufacturer’s Web site to make sure you have the most recent driver and it is compatible with Windows XP. If there are any updates, download and install them and then test your modem again. • Does your modem know what country it’s in? While in Phone And Modem Options, select the Dialing Rules tab, click your location, and select Edit. Under the General tab, verify that the correct Country/Region is selected. • Is your modem correctly configured? Right-click My Computer and select Manage. Under Computer Management select Device Manager. Click the Modems icon to make sure that your modem is listed and is not disabled. If there are duplicates of your modem, delete them and reinstall the modem. Then restart your computer, and test the modem again. • Is your modem conflicting with your network adapter? Go back into Device Manager, right-click your modem, and select disable to disable your network adapter. Test the modem again. If everything above checks out and you’re still getting the error message, you can try disabling the dial tone detector as a workaround. Click Start, Control Panel, and double-click Phone And Modem Options. Under the Modems tab, select your modem and click Properties. Select the Modem tab and uncheck the Wait For Dial Tone Before Dialing box. Click OK and then try your modem again. ------------------------------------------------- Hope this helps mate.

Email Notifications of replyYou may already know how to do this, but I discovered it yesterday and thought it may be useful... Do you wish you could have an email sent to you when someone replies to a particular thread you are interested in? If so, this is for you: The way to do this is as follows: 1. Go to your "Profile". 2. Click "Bookmarks". 3. Select "by Email" (this is how you want your notification delivered) 4. Return to the forum, and find thread you are interested in seeing replies on. 5a. Look in the dark blue header, to the left and click "Bookmark". 5b. The other way of bookmarking the page for notifications is when you're replying - just under the main reply box is a Bookmark checkbox. NOTE: 5b refers to when using the main reply facility, not the quick reply at the foot of the page. For those of you who have not spotted the "reply" link, that is where the smilies, bold, picture code, YouTube code and more is located. ___ Cheers, BC

When you are browsing the internet and suddenly a window pop up with different messages for example" free update for your computer ","scan your computer with free antivirus". May be some pop-ups messages helpful for you but you should read first in detail before clicking it. Pop-ups basically an advertiser message or unwanted program and website that might be disturb your computer performance.
If you are working with Internet Explorer and want to block the pop-ups windows and unwanted messages. Open the Internet Explorer and click on Tools menu and go to Pop-up Blocker option, here you can Turn Off Pop-up Blocker to block pop-up from all websites. But you have option to allow some websites for pop-up. For this purpose open the Pop-up Blocker Setting. Here you can add some specific websites name to allow for pop-up and click Add. If you feel any problem to block any pop-up message due to some problem, simply click on the X at the right top of the pop-up windows.

You can access the restricted or banned websites with the help of this tip. You may have problems to accessing your favorite's politics, news, and sexy websites in your office and other public places. Some time these websites banned by Government, ISP and may be by your office network administrator. This tip is very useful, if you are using internet particularly in school, college and office. Follow the given points to access the banned website: Technique 1: Search the banned website, for example www.computerfreetips.com in Google and yahoo search engine then open the cached copy of that page to access the website. You can get also cache link of that website, if you search in Google with keyword cache:URL name and get cache link to access the website. Technique 2: Another method to access the banned website using its IP address, because you can open the website with IP address instead of actual URL name. This technique bypasses the URL based restrictions. For example if www.myspace.com is banned in your school, you can open it using IP address 216.178.32.51. You can search online IP conversion tools to get IP address of any website. Technique 3: There are some mini web browsers can help you to open the banned websites, for example Opera Mini Browser, install it and try to open any banned website. Another Real Player browser can successfully help you to access the banned website. This Real Player browser bypasses the many restrictions of website banned tools. Technique 4: There any many websites Anonymizer tools are available to fetch the banned website. These anonymous surfing tools that protect your identity on the internet and give the access to banned sites. As far as the service provider is concerned you are viewing a page from Anonymizer and not the blocked site. These tips are very useful to access the banned websites in your university, cybercaf ,office and other public places.

If you are browsing the internet and wants to print a picture from any website. The simple way is first right click on image then chooses the option Print Picture, but the problem here you cannot edit the picture before printing for example color or size of image. The best technique is first save this image on your computer then prints it using any image editing application like Adobe Photoshop or ACDSee.

To copy and paste an internet page into 'Word'
To save it as an image you need to use the print screen button. This takes a snapshot of whatever is displayed on your screen.
1. While viewing the web page hit the print screen button on your keyboard then paste into word.

That is one way of doing it. Unfortunately, you are then restricted in that the text becomes part of a picture - so if you wanted to copy and paste for instance, you can't. You can actually keep a copy of the page just as it is. Depends which browser you use... Firefox:Find the page you want to save. Right click on the page and a menu appears. Choose "Save Page As..." Save the page with either an html or htm extension, e.g. examplepage.htm Internet Exploreryou should see a link called "Page" (near a "Tools" link). Click "Page", and from the drop-down menu select "Save as". You get a little 'Save As' pop-up. Make sure you set the file type to html or htm in the little "Save as Type" drop-down menu. Then change the file-name to whatever you want to save it as, then click 'save'. Have a go and see how you get on. Nothing is perfect though. The limitation of this method is that there is often some linked-coding (known as CSS) which format the pages. If at some future time that is deleted, your webpage loses its structure - as we found out in the twinned sites archive recently!! However, the content remains in tact, and is still "text". BC

Some of the Form Ratings I copy and past are in colour but when I paste them no colour shows.
"3 1 My Flame 0 0 0 0 236.86 1883.34 27.8 77.8 46 0 63.0"
1883.34 should be coloured blue.
Any ideas please?

BC Hi Thanks for that I do use that but when I post the Form Ratings a lot of the text is coloured blue on the original one which would take me hours to blank out each one and add the colour. I wanted something that would automatically do this for me. KP

Don't think that's possible. The HTML code that underlies a webpage is what gives the text we see the colour, size, font, etc. When we copy text from a page, formatting is maintained for some programs, but not, as far as I can tell, for this forum. For example, if you wanted to do this just for your own use, then you can paste into Word, and use the paste option "keep source formatting". A thought has occurred to me. You could paste it into word. Upload the word document to a google docs document, and paste a link to that document. Bit long winded to describe on here or emails, but if you want to chat about that possibility, give me a call sometime. Cheers, BC

Anybody explain how spell check works on this forum? Mine never changes the words. Hi KP. When you click Spell Check, a little box pops up. The first mis-spelt word is highlighted, and you have the option to click "ignore" (i.e. don't change) or "replace" (i.e. change the spelling). If you decide to replace, you must first have chosen the word to replace it with from the list of words that also appear in the box. Cheers, BC
