TOTY 2009
Final Score
In the end, there was no stopping the superlative Walter Pidgeon from taking a well deserved gold medal. Nofinepix refused to give up, and battled right up to the last fence, but WP was away and clear. He was home and hosed by Christmas, sipping a celebratory sherry and munching all the mince pies before the rest of even got back to the stable.
NFP earned himself a shiny silver medal and with WP out of action in 2010, surely must rank as the current favourite for the 2010 crown. He came a distance clear of the fast-finishing BlackCat, who edged past Michael on the December run-in to take the last podium place. There wasn't much in it, and Michael can consider himself unlucky not to at least feature amongst the medals.
Ginger put in an excellent display in December, and but for some misfortune in the last week would have closed the gap between himself and the pack ahead.
OK, we've dealt with the top of the table. We've covered the middle of the table. But the BIG news was all happening at the foot of the table...
The largest wooden spoon collection in the whole of the South Pacific will NOT be added to this year. Old-Timer has put in an extraordinary display in the closing week, banging in some superb big-priced winners to overhaul Atticus.
I'm sure the rest of you will agree with me when I say that anyone who would leave the ice, cold, drizzle and fog of our lovely UK winter to sun himself in Morocco and Kenya has got his just deserts! Not that I'm at all jealous. Obviously. Ahem.
So without further ado, the final table:
