Yes Les, it makes one wonder, but each year the divide between those who have and those who have not widens - and that includes hope too.
I have just completed an article for Forbes magazine here, in which was included these little fact - the top 1% in the USA take home 24% of the total earnings, while 22% of children there officially live in poverty.
Having been in the Lebanon during their civil war, plus of course our riots here in the late '90s, which brought an end to the 32-year rule of Soeharto, I'm glad to sit this one out. However, my sympathies are definitely with the overwhelming majority of ordinary citizens who want no part of this, but whose life has been hijacked by a relatively few mindless hooligans.

Just back from a week in Tenerife. Had to share this with you, and this'll be the thread to do it on... There was a certain family at the resort - very loud, drinking all day, kids let to do whatever they wanted, etc. The Brit's abroad you don't want at your resort. Anyway, Mrs BC asked young 007 "what would you do if you had parents like that".Without missing a beat, he said "Riot in London I expect".Classic.
