Kerrin McEvoy has been booked to ride Red Cardinal in the Emirates Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 7, replacing Ryan Moore.
Moore had been pencilled in to ride the Andreas Wohler-trained colt, who at around 14-1 with British and Irish bookmakers is prominent in the market, but connections have turned to McEvoy due to logistical issues arising from a clash with the Breeders' Cup at Del Mar in California the previous weekend.

Newmarket: David Milnes
Old Persian (3.50 Pontrefract, nap)
Did very well to give weight and a beating to the well regarded Gronowski over a mile at Newmarket last time. Charlie Appleby's strapping type should handle this more demanding track.
Others to follow Windsor 2.10 Mansfield, 2.40 Vroom, 3.10 Ghalib, 4.10 Mitigarte. Pontefract 2.20 Hemingford, 2.50 Brigand, 3.20 Pirate Look, 4.20 Tranquil Star.
11/8 Old Persian 3:50 Pontefract Lambourn: James Burn
Fast And Hot (2.10 Windsor, nap)
Four-year-old was back in form with a decent second last time, enjoys some cut in the ground and goes well for promising apprentice Rossa Ryan, so a big effort is expected.
Others to follow Plumpton 2.30 Lexington Law, 4.00 Adrrastos. Pontefract 2.20 Dance Emperor, 3.20 Tuff Rock, 3.50 Connect, 4.20 Know Your Limit.
11/2 Fast And Hot 2:10 Windsor North: Colin Russell
My Name Is Rio (5.20 Pontefract, nap)
Wasn't at his best when last seen out, but returns from a break on a fair mark and with conditions to suit is fancied to bounce back to form.
Others to follow Pontefract 2.20 Gamesters Icon, 2.50 Rizzle Dizzle, 3.20 Royal Shaheen, 3.50 Alfie Maguire, 4.20 Aristo Du Plessis, 4.50 Dominating. 12/1 My Name Is Rio 5:20 Pontefract Topspeed: Dave Edwards
Old Persian (3.50 Pontefract)
Earned smart figures when romping home at Newmarket earlier this month and a hat trick looks on the cards for Charlie Appleby's exciting youngster.
11/8 Old Persian 3:50 Pontefract West Country: Andrew King
Ridgeway Flyer (4.00 Plumpton, nap)
Makes his debut for Paul Nicholls and has his first try over fences. He has the size and scope to do well at his new career.
Others to follow Plumpton 2.30 Action Replay 3.00 Money For Nothing 3.30 Ochos Rios 5.00 Barney From Tyanee 5.30 Smart Boy.
3/1 Ridgeway Flyer 4:00 Plumpton Racing Post Ratings: Simon Turner
Old Persian (3.50 Pontefract)
Has created a very good impression winning last two starts and looks well capable of winning at Listed level. Softer ground and stiffer finish asks a different question but should take the beating if coping.
11/8 Old Persian 3:50 Pontefract Longshot: Ed Quigley
Miss Crick (4.00 Plumpton)
Disappointed over hurdles when last seen, but should be competitive off this mark on chase debut if putting her best foot forward.

James Ewart deploys blinkers successfully and is three from eight with horses sporting the headgear for the first time. Gilmer gets the aid in the 2.40 at Windsor.
Richard Whitaker has used the claim of Lewis Edmunds to good effect at Pontefract where the pair combine for a 56 per cent strike-rate. Dawn Breaking bids to enhance that record in the 2.50.
PJ McDonald is two from two aboard Dominating whereas other jockeys are three from 16 on the gelding. The Group 1-winning jockey is back aboard in Pontefract’s 4.50.
Emma Lavelle continues to churn out a healthy profit with her handicap newcomers and chase debutant Dark Mahler looks fairly treated in the 5.00 at Plumpton.

2/1 Rob Robin 3:30 Plumpton Created an excellent impression when successful over course and distance off a 9lb lower mark last month.
This demands more, but he was bought for £105,000 at one time and now looks ready to start fulfilling his potential.

in today's sporting life........... Pro punter and National Hunt expert Murt Khan has a couple of selections at this afternoon's Plumpton meeting. 4.30 Plumpton preview Click here for racecard and free video form I thought would make up into a really nice older horse a few years back. He has obviously had his problems and in the process he has slipped to a handy mark. He could get an easy time up front today and if ready to go, could outrun odds of 33/1. 5.00 Plumpton preview Click here for racecard and free video form The top of the market is headed by a few exposed sorts. Crafty Roberto struggles to get his head in front. Flashman isn't the easiest conveyance but loves Plumpton and Saffron Prince has never won off a mark as high as this, but at least arrives in good form. For me it all leaves the door open for a horse who may have more to come and the one who fits this criteria is . The Emma Lavelle-trained six-year-old showed a bit on his only sole point start. This was followed by three hurdle runs with promise shown on his last two efforts. Making his handicap debut over fences today off 106, he looks capable of proving competitive. The yard enjoyed a winner who was returning off a break at the weekend and, in a modest-looking contest, 5/1 looks worth chancing. Unwritten can show he is one to watch next term with victory at Pontefract, according to Anita Chambers who has a tip for every race. Karl Burke has enjoyed another excellent season peppered with Group One triumphs and while Unwritten is not of that calibre yet, he can show he is one to watch next term with victory at Pontefract. The Poet's Voice colt will be having just his third outing as he lines up in the totepool ebfstallions.com Silver Tankard Stakes, but he can make an immediate impact at Listed level. As a half-brother to a couple of Group-race performers on the continent, it is no surprise Unwritten appears to have a bit of ability with only his inexperience seemingly hampering him when fourth on his debut at Hamilton in August. He clearly learnt plenty for that run, as he coasted home by nine lengths at this track last month, accelerating from a decent gallop to pull clear in impressive style. Unwritten was still a bit green in the finish that day, hanging across the track a little, so it would be fair to say there was likely a bit left in the locker. He tackles the same mile trip here and the probability of suitable cut in the ground is a definite favourable factor. At the other end of the scale, Suegioo has few secrets from the handicapper but he appears to be back in winning mood judged on his recent placed effort at Haydock. Richard Fahey's charge has not struck gold since landing the Chester Cup back in 2014, but he has been highly tried in the interim and actually came close to a Group Three victory last year. He has not been showing quite the same dash this term, barring a good run at Haydock in May and another fine effort back at that track last time. Suegioo was staying on all the way to the line in very testing ground at the Merseyside venue last month, so the desire is likely still there and on a rating of just 89 now, he can finally regain the winning thread in the totepool Live Info Download The App Phil Bull Trophy Conditions Stakes over a marathon two and a quarter miles. Poseidon finally shed his maiden tag last time out and can kick on again in the Sky Bet Extra Places Every Day Handicap at Windsor. The three-year-old made a late start to the campaign in June and after a couple of initial so-so efforts, he was given a break but returned better than ever in September, finishing second at Windsor before finally hitting the target earlier this month. While it was only a modest event, Poseidon showed plenty of fighting spirit and might be able to follow up, even off his increased mark. Jamie Codd is an eyecatching jockey booking for Dakota City in the closing Ivor Laws Memorial Handicap and the hint should be taken. Amateur rider heats are not usually great betting territory but given trainer Olly Murphy, a former assistant to Gordon Elliott, has gone to the trouble of booking an old ally, it suggests a big run is expected. Ridgeway Flyer can make a dream start for new handler Paul Nicholls in the Gerald Karn-Smith Memorial Chase at Plumpton. Trained by Harry Fry last year, the six-year-old looked very useful in winning two novice hurdles, particularly when overcoming a less than ideal scenario on his final start of the campaign. Ridgeway Flyer subsequently moved to Nicholls over the summer, which can hardly be counted as a negative. 10 10 Unwritten25 29-3OR: -CD 10/1 Form: 41T: K R BurkeJ: P McDonald Last run Live betting powered by Sporting Life suggestions: PLUMPTON: 2.30 Larry, 3.00 Mrs Burbidge, 3.30 Jebs Gamble, 4.00 Ridgeway Flyer, 4.30 Teak, 5.00 Saffron Prince, 5.30 St Andrews. Tim Easterby and David Allan have enjoyed fine seasons and Ben Linfoot's tipping the pair for more success at Pontefract on Monday. Recommended bet: Ben Linfoot's Daily Nap, October 23 HYANNA looks the type to improve for the switch to handicaps in the toteplacepot EBF Nursery Handicap at Pontefract on Monday. The daughter of Champs Elysees ran really well in soft ground on debut at Beverley a month ago when a staying on third. Turned out quickly here at Pontefract 8 days later, she was sent off favourite but had to wait for a run when fourth behind the impressive Unwritten, who runs in the Listed race on Monday's card. Then a week last Friday she was sent off 33/1 in a hot novice race at York, shaping well when finishing seventh of 16. It's now she's handicapping she rates of interest, though. The two horses that finished in front of her on debut are rated 70 and 77, so off 67 she could well make an impact. There's plenty of guesswork involved with her, but the likely good gallop and soft ground are in her favour, while she should get into a nice position quickly from stall two under David Allan. Allan and Tim Easterby have enjoyed a fruitful season at Pontefract, and in handicap debutante Hyanna they have another live chance of getting in the winners' enclosure. Daily Nap record: -10.75pts

Highland Reel set himself up for the defence of his Breeders' Cup Turf crown with a meritorious run in defeat in the Champion Stakes at Ascot. Aidan O'Brien's globetrotter finished third to Cracksman on unsuitably soft ground, but conditions are expected to be far more in his favour at Del Mar on November 4. O'Brien was satisfied with the run, particularly as Highland Reel covered more ground than his rivals as jockey Ryan Moore looked for better ground down the far side. "We were delighted with his run. He has been off a long time and he is not a soft ground horse, but we were over the moon with his run," said O'Brien. "That (America) is what we would be thinking about. It was the only place we could get a little bit better ground, by going over the far side." Highland Reel will head a typically strong Breeders' Cup squad from Ballydoyle. "I'm not sure about Hydrangea, but Rhododendron will go for the fillies' race and Roly Poly will either go for that or the Mile," said O'Brien, "We will see how Churchill is in the next few days and the lads will make a decision on what they want to do with him. It will be the same with Caravaggio. He could go up in trip, but I don't think he needs to. "Yesterday (British Champions Sprint) he was coming along grand and he had to move out and met a bad bit of ground up the middle. Then when he got in off it he got going again, but it was just too late. "September was second in the Fillies' Mile and could go (to Del Mar), and Happily didn't run at Newmarket so we will see how she is and she could go there. Clemmie is finished for the year. "US Navy Flag is a possible, as are the other horses that ran in the Dewhurst. "Declarationofpeace is going for a five-furlong race out there on grass. War Decree could go for the Classic or the Mile."

He also reported that OLD PERSIAN had no more to give and felt amiss in the final furlong and that, in his opinion, it would have been contrary to the colt’s welfare to continue riding out to the finish line. His explanation was noted. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the colt during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Alan King is looking forward to Yanworth's eagerly-awaited debut over fences in Tuesday's 188Bet Best Mate Beginners' Chase at Exeter.
The seven-year-old, who is already as short as 8-1 for the JLT Novices' Chase and 10-1 for the RSA at the Cheltenham Festival, will take on five rivals in the extended two-mile-one-furlong contest.
The JP McManus-owned gelding has won eight out of his 10 starts over hurdles, including two at Grade One level, with the most recent victory coming in the Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree on his final start of last season.
King said: "I am excited about the prospect of launching him over fences, but I would be lying if I wasn't a bit apprehensive as you want things to go well.
"This race has been in the back of our minds for some time. His preparation has gone well and he is ready to start, so let's hope it goes well.
"Barry (Geraghty) has come over and ridden him once and he was delighted with him. I've been very happy with him and he has had four or five good schooling sessions.
"It is a lovely, big, galloping track and the trip should be fine and he won't mind the soft ground."
Richard Woollacott hopes Lalor can pick up where he left off in the spring by making a victorious return in the Prydis Novices' Hurdle.
Having won a Grade Two bumper at Aintree in April, the five-year-old will make his debut over hurdles in the extended two-mile affair.
Woollacott said: "He seems well at home so we will see what he does. We schooled him before we turned him out last year and he seems very good. Everything seems well.
"Tom Scudamore has been a couple of times to sit on him and I expect he has jumped about 40 hurdles with him.
"He pulled quite hard in the bumper at Aintree. I hope he doesn't pull too hard (on Tuesday), as long as he gets relaxed we will see what happens.
"He will improve and tomorrow is not the be-all and end-all. As long as he comes back safe and sound, hopefully there will be some nice days in him.
"The win at Aintree was fantastic for a little yard like ourselves and it was down to the hard work of all the team."

in today's sporting life..................... Yanworth on chasing debut at Exeter is one of Anita Chambers' best bets for Tuesday - she has a tip in every race. All eyes will be on Yanworth as he starts out over fences in the 188Bet Best Mate Beginners' Chase at Exeter on Tuesday. The seven-year-old moves up to the bigger obstacles after a distinguished hurdles career, which yielded two Grade One victories as well as a handful of Grade Two verdicts. Sent off favourite for the Champion Hurdle back in March, Yanworth never looked like taking a hand in the finish and was eventually disqualified after failing a post-race drugs test. Whatever went wrong that day, Yanworth righted the ship at Aintree in April when stepping up to an extended three miles to win the Liverpool Hurdle, although he only really did just enough to win. While that economical style of victory is par for the course for Yanworth, his rating of 163 makes him a force to be reckoned with in any situation and he is head and shoulders above this sort of opposition. Switching back to two miles and a furlong may not be totally up his street, but Yanworth is a class act and Alan King has found him an excellent starting point before moving on to bigger and better things. Lalor was also last seen at Aintree when springing in a 33/1 surprise in a Grade Two bumper and sets out on a new route in the Prydis Novices' Hurdle. He won with a fair chunk in hand on Merseyside, adding to two earlier Wincanton wins, and trainer Richard Woollacott has a proper horse to go to war with this term. Dean Ivory enjoyed a red-letter day with Librisa Breeze at Ascot and Nezar can keep the bandwagon rolling, albeit at a much lower level, with victory at Newcastle. The Gosforth Park venue stages the first day of the All-Weather Championships and Ivory is quick out of the blocks as he sends Nezar for the Betway Sprint Handicap. Nezar joined Ivory at the start of 2017 and was a winner at Wolverhampton back in April before embarking on a summer break following his sixth outing of the year at Brighton in June. The six-year-old returned suitably refreshed with a narrow fourth at Kempton at the beginning of September, before hitting the bar in second at Goodwood at the end of the month. Nezar was only beaten a neck on that occasion as the winner proved most game and while a 2lb rise is perhaps a bit harsh, he has won off a higher mark in the past. Dramatic Queen can sign off for the year with a win in the first division of the Breeders Backing Racing EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes at Yarmouth. William Haggas pitched this Kitten's Joy filly in on heavy ground at Haydock for her racecourse bow and perhaps the testing conditions that day proved her undoing as she finished third. She kept on gamely enough over a mile and looked sure to thrive on quicker ground, which she seems likely to get here. Hourglass lines up in the second division and is one to follow on her racecourse debut for Marco Botti. Owned by the Coolmore team, Hourglass is a Galileo half-sister to the top-class Shamardal and can make quite a splash. Get the lowdown from some of the leading National Hunt yards as the 2017/18 season begins in earnest. Warren Greatrex Aloomomo: "He was one that I had big hopes for last season and obviously he had a disaster. He had that fall where he broke his shoulder at Cheltenham and it was touch and go at one point. Thankfully the surgeons and the team did a fantastic job and he is back in full training. The plan is for him to have his first run back over hurdles at Bangor on October 31. I still think he is a really good horse and we might take at look at the Ladbrokes Winter Carnival at Newbury and see if we can find something there afterwards." Keeper Hill: "He will go novice chasing. He did well last season, but he just came up short in a couple of those big races at the end of the season. He should be a better chaser than he was a hurdler. We will start off low key and I would say he will probably start off over two and a half miles. I don't think he wants to go three yet and I think it was a step up too far last season for him. He is still young, but has done well and he looks the part." Missed Approach: "He ran an absolute cracker to finish second in the four-miler at Cheltenham. He then finished eighth in the Scottish National. That was probably his best run and he was still in front two out. His big target is the Grand National. Whether he goes over the fences between now and then, I am not sure. I think he could be a nice type of horse for the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury. We might give him a prep run before that in the West Yorkshire Hurdle at Wetherby. He has done really well over the summer. He was a bit in and out last year and hopefully he will redeem himself." Petticoat Tails: "She was placed twice in Listed bumpers at Sandown and at Aintree. She looks really exciting and has jumped really well at home. We will probably start her off over two miles and see what happens after that. She was as good as The Nipper and La Bague Au Roi were at the same point in their careers. She has always looked quite smart and could well progress to get more black type now over hurdles." Western Ryder: "He was high up there with the best bumper horses last season and will go novice hurdling this season. He will start over two miles and go somewhere small to start with. He has done very well over the summer. Fingers crossed he turns into a good novice hurdler. He won a Listed race at Ascot. I then think he was unlucky as things went against him at Aintree and he had been on the go a long time. He was probably too far back at Cheltenham and he came up the wrong part of the track. If he can do that again and get to those meetings, there is nothing to say he won't be very exciting." Warren Greatrex's Western Ryder Warren Greatrex's Western Ryder Charlie Longsdon Snow Leopardess: "Snow Leopardess is a nice mare and won nicely in France on her return. There is a decent mares' handicap on Badger Ales day at Wincanton that Kalane ran in a couple of years ago that she could go for next. There is also a race at Kempton at the end of November which is a three-mile Listed race. In an ideal world, and if we are all happy, we would like to take her to Cheltenham. There is no reason why she would be out of place there as she has won a Listed race and a Grade Two." Monty's Award: "His bumper win at Worcester was strong form. He was not quite right when he ran second time at Doncaster, but he finished a creditable fourth. I would like to think he can take higher rank among the novice hurdlers this season. I think he will be a stayer in time. We will look at the EBF Final at Sandown as a long-term target, but if he is handicapped too high then that is a good thing and we can look at graded races. Of the novice hurdlers he is the known quantity and can be top of the pile." Pendra: "He might be one for the tail-end of the season again having had the autumn off. He ran the race of his life to be beaten in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham. It was a great effort to get there on his first run since the Grand National. He has been a flag-bearer for our yard the last five years." Click here for the full Charlie Longsdon stable tour Our Kaempfer might go somewhere like the Badger Ales Chase first Colin Tizzard Thistlecrack: "He is cantering now and has been in for a couple of months, he came in early August. He has had plenty of walking. He will have one race before the King George, that is our aim. We have got to decide what there is in that little block, it could be he goes over hurdles. It was a good performance in the King George, but we have come to expect that. He was a World Hurdle winner with almost his head in his chest and as a novice expectations were high. He was a good horse in February and that setback won't make any difference at all." Finian's Oscar: "He came with a big reputation last year and has fulfilled that in spades. He is a beautiful horse. Robbie Power schooled him and you would have thought he was a handicap chaser. He could easily end up as an Arkle horse, as he is not short of pace. There is the JLT at Cheltenham now, but the more prestigious race is the Arkle." Pingshou: "Last season was basically his first season racing and he got up to 150. We are going to see if we can turn him into a Champion Hurdle horse. He will start off next month and he could go up to Newcastle for the Fighting Fifth. If he is not good enough we will turn round at Christmas and go novice chasing with him. He was good at Aintree last year and he only just got touched off at Punchestown." Cue Card: "He is ready and has been in a long time. I thought he needed the run a bit at Wetherby last year, but I am going to try to make sure he doesn't this time. He is getting older and doesn't need to go there 95 per cent but right on the boil. For me, he is as good as he has ever been. We will probably go the Ascot Chase after Christmas, then to Cheltenham. Whether we go to the Gold Cup or the Ryanair will be decided later on." Colin Tizzard and Cue Card Click here for the full Colin Tizzard Stable Tour Alan King Yanworth: "I've always felt this season he would be going chasing. He has had a few schools and has jumped very well. There is possibility he could go to Exeter at the end of the month and then there is one in early November as well. I would think around two and a half is where we will campaign this season. I don't think he will be an Arkle horse. We will see how it goes through the season, but he could be a JLT horse or an RSA horse." Sceau Royal: "We always thought he would be very good over a fence and touch wood he has been. Hopefully fences will continue to improve him as he is only five. I think he is a two-miler and if he is good enough we will aim for the Arkle. I would be thinking Cheltenham at the end of the month. It would be an option as if you can go around Warwick you can go anywhere." Click here for the full Alan King Stable Tour Ben Pauling Willoughby Court: "He’s done brilliantly as he’s not the sort of horse that has summered well before. He looks great and we’re now well into our preparations for his first run of the season. He’s done five or six pieces of work at home, at least, if not a bit more and here we are in the middle of October with November 5 as his first target. I honestly think the JLT [would be his preferred Cheltenham Festival target] at the moment." Play Video Willoughby Court jumps a fence Barters Hill: "He’s in really good form. I can’t say anymore than that. He’s doing two canters daily, he is absolutely loving it, charging up there trying to do more and more every day. We’ll step him up to three canters in a short amount of time and then we’ll get him back working. I guess it’s when we work and school him that we really find out what is there. But at this present moment in time, everything that I have hoped for is there. At the moment, touching wood, everything has gone very smoothly and I’m confident that he will return and run again. We don’t know what level of ability he’ll retain, if it’s anything like the ability he had then he’s going to be very well handicapped." Click here for the full Ben Pauling Stable Tour Harry Fry Unowhatimeanharry: "He continued to thrive last season. We are looking forward to following a similar route this season and we will start off at Newbury on December 1 in the Long Distance Hurdle, then hopefully go for the Long Walk. The races plan themselves at his level. He is nine now going on 10 and there are no plans to go novice chasing, we will just stick to what we are good at." Play Video Unowhatimeanharry wins the Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle American: "He did nothing wrong over fences and we are looking forward to a second season over them. The logical target for him is the Ladbrokes Trophy and that is what the focus is on at the moment, as he has got the ideal profile for the race. He just gallops and jumps and that is what won him the race at Uttoxeter. The race at Warwick he just jumped them into the ground. Down that back straight I don't think I've seen anything jump like he did, let alone a novice doing that." Click here for the full Harry Fry Stable Tour Fergal O'Brien Colin's Sister: "She may have to go against the boys first time out, but there is a Listed race over three miles at Kempton at the end of November and that's her main aim this side of Christmas. I'd love to go to Cheltenham with her, but whether we get soft ground there is another thing. We will just take it one race at a time." Cap Soleil: "She has been jumping well at home and is a bit bigger and stronger than last season. I think we will start her off over two miles at Newbury in early November and take it from there." Recent York scorer Beatbox Rhythm makes what could be his final appearance for trainer Karl Burke in the 32Red Casino Conditions Stakes at Newcastle on Tuesday. A seven-race card at Gosforth Park marks the beginning of the new All-Weather Championships season, which culminates with the £1million All-Weather Championships Finals Day at Lingfield on Good Friday next March. Tuesday's £25,000 contest is a Fast-Track Qualifier for the £150,000 32Red Three-Year-Old All-Weather Championships and Beatbox Rhythm holds strong claims having won a nursery at York less than a fortnight ago. Burke said: "He came out of York really well - he's bouncing at home - and we thought it was worth giving it a shot. He works on the Polytrack at Middleham all the time, so we don't expect switching to the all-weather to be a problem. "He's entered in the sales at Tattersalls next week. He'll only be sold if he fetches what we think he's worth. If he wins at Newcastle it would be a big bonus, obviously. It's not a bad race, but we go there hopeful." Beatbox Rhythm faces eight rivals over six furlongs, with the Richard Fahey-trained It Dont Come Easy setting the standard on official ratings. The Kyllachy colt has filled the runner-up spot in his last two races, most recently finding only Rebel Assault too strong in York's Rockingham Stakes. "It Dont Come Easy had a bit of a tough race at York, but seems fine now," said Fahey. "He was a fraction disappointing during the middle part of the season after a decent run in the Norfolk (at Royal Ascot), but he has bounced back well and we were happy with his last two performances. "It is a great incentive from the All-Weather Championships having this Fast-Track Qualifier so early, and it would be a coup if he could win it as I would like to give him a break and then aim for the final." Lake Volta drops back a furlong after finishing third in the Star Appeal Stakes on Polytrack at Dundalk, Ireland, on October 6. Lake Volta was also third in the Listed Ripon Two-Year-Old Trophy on turf in August and filled the same position behind Invincible Army in the G3 Sirenia Stakes on Polytrack at Kempton Park on September 9, both over six furlongs. Charlie Johnston, assistant to his father Yorkshire-based Mark, said: "Lake Volta has run well in Listed and G3 company on his last three starts. "I think the drop back down to six furlongs tomorrow will be a help to him, especially the stiff six at Newcastle, and when we had brief look through our team to find a horse to aim at this division, he looked a very suitable horse. "Hopefully, he can get the automatic berth and then we can freshen him up for Finals Day. It looks a hot enough race tomorrow, but he is right up there in terms of the form on offer and his rating of 100 has been well earned. "It Dont Come Easy was second behind a filly of ours, Rebel Assault, at York, so we have a bit of a line on him. I think Lake Volta has a very good chance and should go close." Other contenders include Encrypted (Hugo Palmer) and Sarookh (Roger Varian) while Irish hopes rest on Gordon Elliott's outsider River Boyne.

Aidan O'Brien has 12 horses in contention for Saturday's Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster as he seeks a record-breaking 26th Group One winner of the year. The Ballydoyle handler equalled Bobby Frankel's record with Hydrangea at Ascot on Saturday and is responsible for more than half of the entries in the mile contest. Spearheading O'Brien's potential team are leading Investec Derby fancies Saxon Warrior and The Pentagon. Mendelssohn, Seahenge and Threeandfourpence, who finished second, third and fourth respectively in the Dewhurst, have also been left in, along with Zetland Stakes winner Kew Gardens and Royal Lodge runner-up Nelson. Coat Of Arms, Delano Roosevelt, Hunting Horn, Lucius Tiberius and Saracen Knight complete his list of contenders. National Stakes winner Verbal Dexterity missed the Dewhurst due to a bad scope, but he is one of two potential runners along with Theobald for trainer Jim Bolger, who is bidding for a first winner in the race. Bolger told At The Races: "He scoped clean last Thursday. He was in very good form all along so we were able to keep him exercised. "He did a bit of work on Saturday morning, I was very happy with that. He'll work again on Tuesday and that should leave him ready for the Racing Post Trophy. That's the objective at the moment. "I wouldn't be looking back (at the Dewhurst). Hopefully we get the business done in Doncaster." John Gosden's Royal Lodge winner Roaring Lion heads the home-trained team while Charlie Appleby could be double-handed with Solario Stakes hero Masar and first-time-out Goodwood winner Loxley, who was the sole supplementary entry. The list is completed by Alfa McGuire (Bryan Smart), Chilean (Martyn Meade), Hey Gaman (James Tate), Gabr (Sir Michael Stoute) and Merlin Magic (David Elsworth). : 9/4 Saxon Warrior; 3/1 The Pentagon; 4/1 Verbal Dexterity; 5/1 Roaring Lion; 7/1 Masar; 9/1 Chilean; 12/1 bar Related Links

Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley have a 67 per cent strike-rate when teaming up at Yarmouth. They do so with Laubali (3.00), who looks ready to win now stepping into nursery company for the first time.
Paul Nicholls has just one runner today, Kapcorse at Exeter (2.50). The trainer has a 25 per cent strike-rate with new recruits when making their debuts for the yard. This newcomer is well regarded.
Jack Osborn, riding very well at present, is operating at a 31 per cent strike-rate in the past two weeks. He travels to Yarmouth to ride Spenny’s Lass (2.30) and this daughter of Bated Breath can put her experience to good use.

Exeter
The Tom George-trained Cernunnos (3.20) built up a 13-race losing streak after scoring at Leicester in February 2016 but new blinkers and a career-low mark helped him get back to winning ways at Bangor last time.
The seven-year-old was given a patient ride but he came through to lead jumping the last and crossed the line four and a half lengths clear of the in-form What Happens Now with subsequent winner Clubs Are Trumps back in third. A 7lb rise in the weights still leaves him feasibly treated if the headgear works again.
5/1 Cernunnos 3:20 Exeter Philip Hobbs has won the novice hurdle five times in the last ten years so Lord Duveen (2.50) is one to keep a close eye on. This will be his first racecourse appearance but he is certainly bred for the job as he is closely related to the stable’s smart chaser Balthazar King and For Good Measure, who won two hurdles for this yard including one over course and distance.
8/1 Lord Duveen 2:50 Exeter Newcastle
Subhaan (3.40) was beaten eight lengths at Salisbury in August but three efforts on the all-weather have been much better including his first visit to Gosforth Park last time out in a 1m maiden.
Back up to 1m, Roger Varian’s gelding pushed Irish raider Breeze all the way to the line but couldn’t quite get past.
The three-year-old can go one better against a field of more exposed rivals in this classified stakes.
6/4 Subhaan 3:40 Newcastle (AW) Kempton
Ed Walker has chances in the last three races, with Abel Tasman (9.15) perhaps likeliest to win.
The three-year-old was well beaten in his first two starts after a gelding operation but he has improved since moving into handicaps, going down by half a length at Windsor in August before a second here over 1m4f, when flying late after being left with ground to make up.
He can open his account if ridden slightly more positively.
7/4 Abel Tasman 9:15 Kempton (AW) Yarmouth
Rubis (4.00) has posted a string of solid efforts this year and can land a third victory of the campaign in the 1m2f handicap.
Richard Fahey’s filly struck at Ayr in June and took her form to a new level at the same venue last time out, overcoming a slow start to catch High Draw in the closing stages. She has only gone up 2lb for that and can follow up.
5/1 Rubis 4:00 Yarmouth Southwell winner Noble Ballad, trained by Ralph Beckett, (4.30) looks good in the 7f handicap.
8/1 Noble Ballad 4:30 Yarmouth

Hajaam 3.30 Yarmouth
2/1 Hajaam 3:30 Yarmouth Hajaam is thriving at present and must be backed to complete a quick-fire four-timer.
Successful at Haydock, Kempton and Leicester since September 29, the gelding won with far more in hand than the official margin of a length and three-quarters suggests last Tuesday, and will relish the step back up in trip.

in today's sporting life.................. Pro punter and National Hunt expert Murt Khan has a strong fancy for a classy chasing debutant at Sedgefield. 3.45 Sedgefield preview Click here for racecard and free video form KALONDRA has a beautiful progressive profile and there is no reason why he now won't make his mark over fences. He possesses a lot of size and scope and looks a chaser through and through. Neil Mullholland sent the horse to Worcester three times in a row in 2016 and he was very accurate and quick over the baby fences there which bodes well for this event. Deauville Dancer should come on for her recent run at Uttoxeter but I think the selection will have too much class for his opposition today. Cracksman has officially been rated as the best horse in Europe following his brilliant performance in the Qipco Champion Stakes. His mark of 130 puts the John Gosden-trained Frankel colt 2lb ahead of his dual Classic-winning stablemate Enable (128), who also won the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe this season. British Horseracing Authority handicapper Dominic Gardiner-Hill said on "With due respect to his stable companion Enable, and notwithstanding the decisions of the World's Best Racehorse Ranking Committee which will meet in Hong Kong in December, it is my belief that Cracksman put up the best performance we have seen in Europe this year. "Visually his seven-length success was extremely impressive. The fact that he ran the fastest final furlong of the afternoon confirms the merit of the performance and I have raised his mark 8lb from 122 to 130. "Runner-up Poet's Word previous performance in Ireland looks a solid 119 but I have him running 2lb below that at 117 due to the proximity of French challenger Recoletos (115) in fourth. The latter horse was slightly hampered close home so I actually have him running 114+. "Third-placed Highland Reel (pre-race 123) is adjudged to have run 7lb off that level at 116 which is unsurprising given that the testing ground would have been far from ideal for him. I am sure that he will again be seen to better effect once he sets off on his travels." He added: "For those that believe this to be a slight on Enable - I believe it is worth pointing out that these figures are a measure of performance rather than a measure of the inherent ability of the horse. "The truth is that nobody knows how good Enable is; she just keeps winning. By the same token we don't know the limits of Cracksman's ability at the present time. "It is my opinion that the latter's performance on Saturday was better than her efforts in winning both the King George and the Arc. Do bear in mind, though, that she received the 3lb allowance for fillies in both those races as she would if taking on Cracksman. "At present it looks as though both will stay in training next year and that should provide the exciting opportunity for us to find out more about both."

There are some nice prospects on show at Newmarket and Nick Robson has previewed the action, providing a selection for every race. There are some nice prospects on show at Newmarket on Wednesday, but the best of them all could be Elwazir in the 32Red.com Novice Stakes. Beautifully bred, he made a very pleasing debut at Headquarters a month ago and looks sure to take a step forward. While Owen Burrows can have first time out winners, the majority improve for the run and that bodes well for the son of Frankel who is out of Dash To The Top, which makes him a half-brother to Group One winner Speedy Boarding. Not cheap at 500,000 guineas, he at least showed on debut that he possessed an engine when finishing second to Henry Candy's smart prospect Thrave. Behind Elwazir in third was Aidan O'Brien's Coat Of Arms, who had earlier finished second in the Futurity Stakes and fourth in the Group One National Stakes. That give some real substance to the form and Burrows will be disappointed if this Derby entry fails to go one better. It is no surprise to see Hugo Palmer step up in trip with Left Alone in the second division of the Rewards4Racing Fillies' Novice Median Auction Stakes. Third on her debut over six furlongs at Yarmouth, in which she was doing her best work close home, she ran a similar race last time out, powering through the line to claim second at Kempton. That was also over six, behind a nice one of John Gosden's, but she will surely be suited by the extra furlong this time. In the first division, Palmer's High Seas is also worth noting given she reared on leaving the stalls last time out, which meant she did well to eventually finish fourth. Harry Dunlop was thrilled with the debut effort of Knight To Behold in the Haynes, Hanson & Clark at Newbury and will be disappointed should he fail to build on it in the British EBF Racing UK Novice Stakes. Beaten a nose by Palmer's White Mocha, who had the benefit of experience, he failed by the narrowest of margins to get the verdict. While this race has attracted, on paper at least, some very nice individuals, Knight To Behold should be wiser for his first effort. Another trainer who rarely has his newcomers fit to burst first time out is Luca Cumani, so the debut of his Coolongolook was all the more meritorious. He reappears in the first division of the 32Red/British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Kempton having finished third behind Peter Chapple-Hyam's Just Brilliant. Scotchtown makes his chasing debut in the Richard Davis Memorial Chase at Worcester and he looks like being a smart novice. He made giant strides over hurdles last season but might need softer ground to be seen at his absolute best. Kalondra can make a winning start over fences in the Call Star Sports On 08000 521321 Beginners' Chase at Sedgefield. Placed in a couple of point to points before embarking on a hurdling career, the switch to fences should bring out the best in him.
