Kevin's main selection was touched off by a nose last Sunday, but he has two big-priced selections at the Curragh today which he hopes will deliver some compensation to his readers.
Looking Back The seconditis continues!
The Jane Foley-trained Chief Suspect was the main selection in a seven furlong maiden at Dundalk last Sunday and pretty much everything that I had hoped would happen duly transpired. Chief Suspect was backed from an early price of around 5.0 in to a BSP of 3.49, but with nothing else wanting to make the running, Gary Carroll did the right thing by taking the bull by the horns and make the running.
He looked to have all his main dangers cooked with a furlong to run, but he started to idle ever so slightly through greenness as he approached the stand. Shane Foley produced Refusetolisten with a well-timed challenge to narrowly head him inside the final furlong and while Chief Suspect rallied once joined, he failed by a nose to get back up. A nose is a nose and will always frustrate, but he was ultimately given every opportunity to win and failed to get it done on the day.
The second selection was a somewhat chancier one in the shape of Togoville in the mile handicap and the race illustrated the problems that a wide draw can cause at Dundalk. There was plenty of pace in the race and I had hoped a slot would open for him in behind the leaders and while the slot duly appeared, Togoville wasn't in the position to take it having missed the kick ever so slightly.
That left Colin Keane in a predicament, as he found himself out wide with no cover and had to either stay where he was and lose significant ground on the bend, take a pull and slot in towards the rear or gun him up to get a more prominent slot. He took the third option, but doing that used vital fuel at the halfway point in the race while most of the runners were filling their lungs. While he travelled well into the straight, those mid-race exertions told in the closing stages and he had no more to give late on. He remains one to be interested in at a similar level.
There are few more frustrating things in betting than having a string of placed horses and unfortunately for us all, this column has been gripped by such a dose of late. It is easy to get wound up by such runs, particularly for those of you like me that prefer to bet win only rather than each-way, but I always encourage myself with the truism that it is better to be hitting the crossbar than blasting them over the top. I would much rather that my judgement be almost proved right only for the timing or luck on the day to be the issue than to just be getting things flat-out wrong.
The key point is to keep doing whatever it is that has worked in the past, as changing methodologies based on a short-term poor run of form is asking for trouble.
This Week's Plays While today's card at the Curragh is as high a quality non-Group 1 card as we'll see all season, in terms of a betting card, it is one to approach with caution for the simple reason that most weather forecasts predict that rain will arrive in the early afternoon and could be down for the day, which could potentially soften the ground. Both of my selections have been made with this taken into account, but it is something worth bearing in mind whichever horses you side with.
The trickiest race of the day is the opening Luke And Nellie Comer Memorial Handicap (14:25) and, as you will have realised by now, it is the type of race I like to have a swing at. While the high number draw bias on the sprint track at the Curragh isn't as pronounced when the running rail is out in the middle of the track as it is today, it is still an advantage, and with that in mind I am siding with Pencil Hill.
He is a well-exposed handicapper at this stage, but he has shown enough to suggest he can win again this season, most notably on his penultimate start when he was likely to have finished second to Kernoff but for getting checked inside the final furlong over what was an inadequate five furlong trip. His latest effort at Fairyhouse is readily forgiven as he got upset in the stalls and missed the kick from a poor draw. This course and distance is ideal for him and with him being ground versatile, he is worth taking a chance on. My recommendation is for a place bet, but as always, feel free to do your own thing in this regard.
Of all the excellent Group action on the card, the Group 2 Debutante Stakes (15:30) is the most interesting and there is a bet in there in the shape of the Jim Bolger-trained Lucida. I thought she was very impressive indeed when making a winning debut in a winner's race at Naas last month, travelling strongly and showing a likeable attitude to pressure. The ground was yielding on that occasion and while she moves like one that won't mind a firmer surface, Bolger did mention that he would like to keep her off a firm surface for the time being, so the threat of rain isn't too much of a worry for her. I'm surprised she is as big a price as she is (7.0).
Recommended Plays Back Pencil Hill 2pts to place @ 3.5 or better in the 14:25 at the Curragh Back Lucida 1pt to win @ 7.0 or better in the 15:30 at the Curragh

Sunday sees Ryan at Yarmouth where he has five rides. Read his thoughts on that quintet here.
14:10 Yarmouth Russian Heroine Would be a timely and appropriate winner here, as her dam Russian Rhythm sadly died of colic earlier in the week. And this 2yo has shown definite ability in finishing second at Windsor and Sandown. The step up to 6f will suit her, and hopefully she is capable of taking this, though you never know with so many newcomers and unexposed horses in opposition, and William's March On showed promise first time up at Nottingham.
14:40 Yarmouth Artistic Queen Narrowly won over 6f at Lingfield on her debut, and I think a mark of 75 looks fair enough for that, as the placed horses had shown pretty solid maiden form. You have to give her a fair shot, even though she meets some in-form and far more experienced rivals.
15:15 Yarmouth Desert Ranger Won over 7f here last month but didn't run up to that level at Thirsk last time by the looks of it. Appears to take quite a tug, so he will need to settle better to see out this longer trip, but looks to have a decent enough chance in an open race.
15:50 Yarmouth Outback Traveller Was pulled out of a race recently because the ground when against him, but hopefully he will get the decent surface he appears to need. I rode him when he won at Lingfield last season and he has progressed well since, winning in decent style at Newmarket last time and the form of that race is working out well. Is 4lb higher here in a better race, so needs to improve again, but clearly that is entirely possible and he has an obvious chance.
16:25 Yarmouth Silver Mirage She has been disappointing since finishing a fair third on her reappearance. But at least she has come down 5lb in the handicap as a result of those under-par performances, and the drop to 7f could suit.

Frankie Dettori bagged a Group One double with The Wow Signal and Ribbons as British raiders dominated at Deauville.
John Quinn's top-class juvenile The Wow Signal got the better of fellow Royal Ascot hero Hootenanny to maintain his unbeaten record in the Prix Morny.
The triumph was a first Group One success on the Flat for the North Yorkshire handler, meaning he joins an elite band of trainers to have trained a top-level winner on the level and over jumps, with Countrywide Flame clinching the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle in 2012.
Ride Like The Wind took the field along in the early part of the race, with Wesley Ward's American challenger and Windsor Castle winner Hootenanny taking over from two furlongs down.
Dettori had to get to work aboard Coventry Stakes hero The Wow Signal (9-4 joint-favourite) when the pace increased, but his mount responded admirably to set up a grandstand finish, and he wore down Hootenanny as the post loomed to take top honours by half a length.
Jean-Claude Rouget's patiently ridden filly Ervedya, the other joint-market leader, was a further length away in third.
Quinn said: "We're delighted. It's a great day. I wouldn't say this is what we do it for, but these are the days you dream of. Everyone works hard and you hope you might come across a horse like him. We're thrilled to have our piece of it.
"He's crying out for seven furlongs and I would say it will either be the Dewhurst or the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere for him next."
Harry Herbert, racing manager for owners Al Shaqab Racing, suggested a return trip to France is likely.
He said: "We're over the moon and I thought it was a really superb performance over a trip that is probably getting too short for him, especially with the American speed horse in the race.
"It became a real slog, but he's such a tough horse he battled it out and it's a terrific training performance by John Quinn.
"We'll look to move him up to seven furlongs now. We'll look at the Dewhurst, but I think it is probably more likely we'll aim at the big two-year-old race at Longchamp on Arc day, the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, which is sponsored by Qatar.
"I think I am right in saying this is a first two-year-old Group One winner for Al Shaqab Racing, so it's a fantastic result and he's clearly a very exciting horse."
Ward was proud of Hootenanny in defeat and he looks likely to be prepared for the Breeders' Cup back in his homeland.
"After the race you can look at it 100 different ways and try and work how you might have won, but the end result is still the same," said Ward.
"The jockey said he was changing his lead and changing his lead as he couldn't get a hold of the ground. It's pretty deep. He was also on the pace the whole way and the other horse that was with us ended up getting beat 20 lengths.
"He went six furlongs on pretty soft ground and hung on tough, so he should get even further on a faster track. We'll take him home now and look at something like the Breeders' Cup.
"We'll try and find a pre-race for him somewhere before that to give him practice of going around two turns." ==================================
James Fanshawe's raider Ribbons ran out a surprise but brilliant winner of the Darley Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville.
Off the track since being narrowly denied by Amulet in an Ascot handicap in early May, on the face of it Ribbons faced a huge task as she crossed the Channel to compete at Group One level.
Frankie Dettori took his time aboard the 11-1 shot and she had just a couple of rivals behind her rounding the home turn, but once switched wide of the field, Ribbons engaged overdrive and swiftly made up the ground to run to the lead in the final furlong.
Dettori, completing a Group One double on the afternoon having earlier guided John Quinn's The Wow Signal to victory in the Prix Morny, only had to push his mount out with hands and heels in the closing stages to record a most impressive two-length victory for the Elite Racing Club.
Elite racing manager Dan Downie said: "It was a big ask, but we have always liked her and we're absolutely thrilled.
"James has crept along with her and given her time. She hasn't run since May as we've been very keen to keep her away from quick ground.
"She's been entered in a few races and then been taken out at the last minute because of the ground, so it's been frustrating, but the end result is a day like today.
"She's a filly who has kept improving and hopefully there is more to come.
"We haven't made any plans for her yet. She's entered in the Group One on Champions Day (British Champions Fillies And Mares Stakes), but we'll see. The ground is absolutely crucial for her."
Fanshawe told At The Races: "It's a fantastic result, she's always looked a nice filly and Elite bred her, so it's great. A filly can improve at this time of year and she vindicated herself today. She got the ground she likes and Frankie rode her beautifully.
"Frankie said we should stay at 10 furlongs as she has a turn of foot, so we'll probably aim at the Opera if she is OK. She's improved with time, she's from a very good family that does that and hopefully we can keep her right and she will improve with age.
"I'm always grateful when you win a Group One, it's great for the yard. These are the results you aim for." =========================================
Gleneagles saw his Classic odds tumble after a smart turn of foot sealed the Galileo EBF Futurity Stakes at the Curragh on a day when Aidan O'Brien landed a four-timer.
Winner of the Group Three Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown last time out, Joseph O'Brien's mount stepped up to Group Two level with the minimum of fuss and was cut to 16-1 from 25-1 for the 2000 Guineas and Derby by Paddy Power.
Settled in third as Convergence cut out the running, O'Brien got a lovely gap on the rail two furlongs from home and the response from the 8-13 favourite was taking as he shot through it to put the race to bed, although Vert De Grece ran on well for the Joe Murphy stable to take second, three-quarters of a length back.
O'Brien snr said: "I'm delighted with that. He quickened up really well, but didn't do much in front. He had to move when the gap opened on the rail.
"He could possibly come back here for the National Stakes, but he has plenty of options. He has plenty of speed.
"He's a brother to Marvellous and a mile won't be a problem. He's able to change gears. He quickened up there and went two or three lengths up easily, but then started to idle."
The winning rider added: "When he gets there he just has a look, it wasn't ideal getting there so soon, but when I got a little split I had to go."
Raydara ran out a convincing winner of the Group Two Debutante Stakes for Mick Halford and Shane Foley in the familiar colours of the Aga Khan.
The daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar had last been seen finishing fourth to Jack Naylor in the Silver Flash Stakes, with the reopposing Qualify in third.
Qualify hit the front two out on this occasion as Run The Red Light gave way, and the once-raced joint-favourite Lucida immediately gave chase, but she was soon joined by Raydara (11-1), who quickened in eyecatching fashion on the outside of the pack before scoring by half a length.
Halford said: "I'm thrilled with her. When she won her maiden she made the running after finding herself in front, but I thought we made a little bit too much use of her the last day. We're only learning about her.
"She got a break to freshen her up after that. We took her away to the Curragh the other day and she worked very well.
"Shane said she went up through the gears pretty good and he was delighted. She's a very smart filly. Today was a big test and she came through it well.
"I'll talk to Pat (Downes, stud manager for the Aga Khan) now and he'll discuss plans with his Highness. The Moyglare is the obvious target, but she does love it fast and she might have had enough for this year. She's had her four runs and this is the time of the season that fillies can start to go off." =================================
Aidan O'Brien's Gold Cup hero Leading Light made the perfect return to action in the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger Trial Stakes at the Curragh.
Given a break since his efforts at Royal Ascot, last year's Doncaster St Leger winner was shouldering 10st against a useful field, but in the end just needed to be kept up to his work to win by Joseph O'Brien after hitting the front a furlong out.
The front-running Shu Lewis missed out for second by a short head as Royal Diamond finished off the race very well, but Leading Light (2-5 favourite) was never in danger once he got to the front and won by a length and a quarter.
The Montjeu colt took his career record to eight wins from 10 starts, having been beaten only on his two-year-old debut and in the Arc.
O'Brien snr, who went on to a four-timer, said: "I'm delighted with that. He's had a good break since Ascot. We let him down well after that and it's nice to get him started back.
"He came here two weeks ago for a canter to wake him up a bit. He should come on nicely from that as he's giving a good blow.
"The (Irish) Leger falls lovely in the second half of the season for him. I don't know where he'll go after that but the main thing is the lads would like him back for Ascot next year. He ran in the Arc last year, but was back a long way. They'll decide where he goes."
Hall Of Mirrors recorded a surprise success for Ballydoyle in the Kilfrush Stud Royal Whip Stakes.
The outsider of the four runners and apparent second string for the O'Brien team behind Kingsbarns, the Seamie Heffernan-ridden four-year-old made every post a winning one, eventually scoring under just hands and heels.
Joseph O'Brien loomed large on Kingsbarns two furlongs out and looked set to win his race when asked to quicken at the furlong pole, but Hall Of Mirrors (13-2) was always seemingly in second gear and won by a snug half a length.
Parish Hall, the 11-8 favourite, had every chance but his challenge proved to be short-lived.
O'Brien snr said: "That was always liable to happen as the other horse is fit. He has had runs and he ran a very good race at Ascot (fifth to Contributer in the Wolferton Handicap). We knew he (Kingsbarns) would get tired today, but he had to run. He came there but got tired.
"The winner is a very good yardstick. He goes a nice pace and he doesn't lie down. He's a tough, hardy gelding.
"Kingsbarns is a horse that's had plenty of things and that's why we've minded him so much. We wanted to get him started and see. It doesn't always go according to the script!"
It was four for Aidan and three for Joseph when Adjusted got off the mark at the fourth attempt in the Irish Champions Weekend Maiden as the 9-4 favourite, coming nicely clear of Sindarban. ========================================
Irish raider Ansgar gave weight and a beating to his rivals in the Doom Bar Supreme Stakes at Goodwood.
Sabrina Harty's stable star claimed a maiden Group-race triumph in the Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh on his penultimate start, but did not fare as well when only seventh in Leopardstown's Desmond Stakes a week and a half ago.
Sent off at 14-1 for his latest assignment in the capable hands of James Doyle, Ansgar tracked the pacesetting Indignant for the first part of the seven-furlong contest before being nudged to the front a furlong and a half from the finish in the Group Three contest.
Hot favourite Muteela, who lost her unbeaten record when narrowly denied by J Wonder at Glorious Goodwood at the start of the month, was hard at work to bridge the gap, but was ultimately unable to get on terms.
Ansgar passed the post a length and three-quarters to the good, with Muteela second and Professor third.
Harty said: "We took a bit of a chance bringing him over, but it was worth the trip, so we're delighted.
"There aren't many seven-furlong races for him at home, so we decided to travel and he has just about got away with the ground. It was a bit loose on top.
"He's a massive, strong horse, so carrying weight isn't a problem and he's been great for us this summer.
"He deserves it. He's had all sorts of problems with sore shins and a kissing spine - but for all that I think he'd have been a proper Group One horse.
"If the ground is good we'll look at the Park Stakes at Doncaster. He's also entered on Champions Day at Leopardstown (Boomerang Stakes), which is the same day, but that's over a mile and I'd rather stay at seven furlongs if we can." =======================================
The Grey Gatsby is in line for a rematch with Australia in the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 13.
The Kevin Ryan-trained three-year-old has been a revelation this season, finishing 10th in the 2000 Guineas before going on to win the Dante at York and the French Derby at Chantilly.
He got stuck in the mud in the Grand Prix de Paris over a mile and a half, but came out to show his true colours with a fine second to Aidan O'Brien's dual Derby hero Australia in the Juddmonte International back on the Knavesmire.
Ryan said: "He ran an absolute cracker. I think we'll take the winner on again and go for the Irish Champion Stakes next." =======================================
The Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster is the likely next port of call for Seal Of Approval after James Fanshawe's mare got her season back on track at Newbury.
Last season's British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes winner made a pleasing return to action when fourth in the Yorkshire Cup, but turned in a listless display in the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock to leave connections scratching their heads.
The five-year-old looked much more like her old self when a close third in the Geoffrey Freer and is now pencilled in for a trip to Town Moor for a Group Two contest in which she suffered a nasty fall last season.
Fanshawe said: "She came out of Newbury well and we're very pleased with her.
"Hopefully she's on her way back and we're aiming towards the Park Hill at Doncaster. I think she'll improve again from the Newbury race." ============================================
Trainer Robert Cowell has discovered a reason for exciting sprinter Intrinsic's disappointing effort at Newmarket on Saturday.
The Oasis Dream colt has enjoyed a superb summer campaign, completing a four-timer in the 32Red (Stewards') Cup at Glorious Goodwood.
He was rated a major player for the Hopeful Stakes on the July Course, but came home a disappointing eighth and subsequently returned a dirty scope.
Cowell posted on his Twitter feed: "We were puzzled with Intrinsic yesterday. He was scoped immediately after and found to be dirty. He is now being treated with antibiotics." ===================================
Peter Niven is proud of Clever Cookie's efforts in Saturday's Betfred Ebor at York on ground the trainer believes was far from ideal for his stable star.
A three-time winner over hurdles during the winter, the six-year-old has been one of the success stories of the season on the Flat, winning a maiden at Doncaster and twice at York to earn himself a shot at Europe's most valuable staying handicap.
Clever Cookie was far from disgraced, beaten little over five lengths into sixth, and Niven is keen to let the dust settle before formulating a plan for the rest of the year.
"He seems fine this morning, but as far as I'm concerned, the ground was way too quick for him," said the North Yorkshire-based trainer.
"If they'd have got one of those showers it would have helped. I walked the course at 1pm and by the time the race came around it was already a lot quicker.
"Although his family suggests he should go on faster ground, he's a big horse and definitely prefers some cut.
"He ran a good race considering he didn't let himself down on the ground, and fully justified being there.
"I don't know what we'll do with him now. We'll leave it a week, see how he is and make a plan, but he won't be going anywhere on fast ground.
"He'll have to have a break at some stage." ========================================
Dermot Weld is preparing a strong team for the inaugural Irish Champions Weekend on September 13 and 14 at Leopardstown and the Curragh.
Two of his stars are on target to run, with Jersey Stakes winner Mustajeeb on course for a new Group Two and the exciting Forgotten Rules heading for the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger.
Sheikh Hamdan's Mustajeeb has not run since Royal Ascot, but Weld stated that was always the plan.
He said: "Mustajeeb will run in the Clipper Logistics Boomerang Stakes, the Group Two over a mile on Irish Champions Weekend (Leopardstown, September 13).
"He won the Jersey very well and then we eased off him. There was nothing really for him mid-season so I've brought him back for some nice races with the end of the season in mind.
"Forgotten Rules will head for the Irish St Leger. He's coming along very nicely."

Race 7 - 5:35pm THE MALTON MARQUEES SUPPORTING JACK BERRY HOUSE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approximately two furlongs out. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that LES GAR GAN (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Tom Eaves, had interfered with LADY BUBBLES, unplaced, ridden by James Sullivan. The Stewards found Eaves in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he had manoeuvred left causing interference to LADY BUBBLES. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Sunday 7 September 2014.
Paul Mulrennan, the rider of TRINITY STAR (IRE), placed fourth, reported that the gelding hung right in the straight.
Non-Race related incidents The Starter reported that LADY MAI (IRE), trained by Richard Fahey, refused to enter the stalls. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.

Dermot Weld is preparing a strong team for the inaugural Irish Champions Weekend on September 13 and 14 at Leopardstown and the Curragh. Mustajeeb: Likely runner for Dermot Weld Two of his stars are on target to run, with Jersey Stakes winner Mustajeeb on course for a new Group Two and the exciting Forgotten Rules heading for the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger. He won the Jersey very well and then we eased off him. "There was nothing really for him mid-season so I've brought him back for some nice races with the end of the season in mind. Forgotten Rules will head for the Irish St Leger. "He's coming along very nicely."

The Grey Gatsby is in line for a rematch with Australia in the QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 13. The Grey Gatsby: Bound for the Irish Champion Stakes? The Kevin Ryan-trained three-year-old has been a revelation this season, finishing 10th in the 2000 Guineas before going on to win the Dante at York and the French Derby at Chantilly. Unsuited by the mud in the Grand Prix de Paris over a mile and a half, he came out to show his true colours with a fine second to Aidan O'Brien's dual Derby hero Australia in the Juddmonte International back on the Knavesmire. Ryan said: "He ran an absolute cracker. I think we'll take the winner on again and go for the Irish Champion Stakes next." Bookmakers Sky Bet responded by installing him at 5/1 for the race behind 1/3 favourite Australia.

The Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster is the likely next port of call for Seal Of Approval after James Fanshawe's mare got her season back on track at Newbury. Seal Of Approval wins at Ascot last year. Last season's British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes winner made a pleasing return to action fourth in May's Yorkshire Cup, but turned in a listless display in the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock in July to leave connections scratching their heads. "I think she'll improve again from the Newbury race." It was in the same race last year that Hayley Turner took a crashing fall from Seal Of Approval that saw her sidelined for several months, but the jockey has ridden the mare twice again since.

17:05 Monday 25th August Racing Tips - 25/08/2014
Ifwecan drawn 1 at Ripon for the feature is a danger but there's a chance he was flattered at Sandown and he's yet to show the same form. Old boy Dubai Dynamo just gets preference over old boy and 4 time race winner Osteopathic Remedy but King Torus, Ruth Carr's other runner, looks the bet. He's a course and distance winner who was staying on behind Heavy Metal at Ascot and that form is solid. Back up to a mile, he'll be prominent off a potentially modest pace and I'm surprised he's as big as 10/1. Ripon 16.45 - King Torus 1pt e/w
It's finally time to go after Gworn again, who looks so well treated and underestimated at 10/1. He was held up on quick ground at Goodwood in a race where it paid to race handy and he clearly needs to step up on that. Dropped 3lb, that same amount below his last win (a race with Sea Shanty in behind giving the form a sold look), he should get his ground now and his Epsom run behind Farraaj gives him every chance. If only there was a little more pace on…but he's still well worth a go. Chepstow 17.05 - Gworn 1pt e/w
Long Awaited looks perfectly drawn amongst pace at a track he's won at before, this race 2 years ago, and the forecast rain will help. He's well treated and Ryan Moore may be what he needs but he is tricky and not to be relied upon at 7/2. It's Bondesire who really leaps off the card at 12/1 given the likely weather. She wants cut to be at her best and was not brilliantly drawn at Ripon last time when showing good early pace before fading over 6. That pace will be needed here and a decent test at this trip on softer ground is what she needs. I'm not sure she's done winning yet and Sam James is well worth his claim at present. Epsom 15.10 - Bondesire 1pt e/w

Jockeys in the totepool Supporting The Sport You Love Handicap at Epsom escaped punishment despite the runners completing the full five furlongs after a false start had been called.
The riders appeared not to notice the flag man on the track and the race carried on, with the George Baker-trained Humidor passing the post first in the hands of James Doyle, in a race worth £25,000.
A stewards' inquiry was immediately called, which resulted in the race being voided.
The stewards interviewed Doyle and fellow riders Ryan Moore, Sam James, Paul Hanagan, David Probert, Kieran O'Neill, Daniel Muscutt and Martin Lane.
The officials found that O'Neill's mount Taurus Twins had anticipated the start, breaking open his gate and beginning the race in advance of the others. A false start was immediately called and it was reported that the advance flag operator "initially took several steps to his right" before waving the recall flag.
The riders said the advance flag operator was out of their line of sight having moved to his right, particularly in the poor visibility conditions, and because of this continued on in the race.
Evidence was taken from the advance flag man, who confirmed he had moved several steps to his right prior to waving his flag and that he had not blown his whistle as required.
As the operating procedures were not followed by the advance flag operator, the stewards decided that no action would be taken against the riders. A report was forwarded to the British Horseracing Authority.
A number of bookmakers announced they would pay out on Humidor and refund all losing bets.
Baker was at Chepstow, but said he was unhappy with the start from what he had been told by his team at Epsom.
He said: "I am delighted with the horse, but obviously very disappointed with the result. It would have been the first time Humidor had won in almost three years, it was a massive day for that horse and his owners.
"I'm the most laid-back guy in the world and I don't want to be seen to be jumping up and down, but my team have worked incredibly hard with the horse at home to try and win a race with him and there is nil recourse for compensation.
"The one bright side, if there is one, is that the horse thinks he's won his first race for the first time in three years, so hopefully it will do his confidence good. We'll take it as far as we can, I suspect that won't be very far, but I'll talk to the BHA in the morning."
Jamie Stier, director of raceday operations and regulation for the BHA, told Racing UK: "Once the starter had satisfied himself that Taurus Twins had lunged forward and broken the gates, he then immediately raised his false start flag, signalling to the advanced flag operator to do the same.
"The advanced flag operator then stepped three or four steps to his right, prior to raising his flag. He did raise his flag, so the recall flag has been raised. It's academic. The rules are very clear. The race must be void in those circumstances.
"Subsequently, the stewards held an inquiry into the riders' actions continuing on in the race and they ultimately decided no penalties will be issued in the circumstances of this case.
"In arriving at that decision they listened to the riders and given it's a straight five-furlong race, they went to the outside rail, so they were focussed on that, and the advanced flag operator went to the inside. They (jockeys) say in the rain he was out of their vision.
"Equally importantly the operating procedures say t he advanced flag operator must blow his whistle at the same time as raising his flag and that didn't occur on this occasion. Each case has to be considered on its merits." ======================================
Trainer Hugo Palmer is keeping his fingers crossed the current wet spell relents to allow exciting juvenile Aktabantay to turn out for Saturday's European Wealth Solario Stakes at Sandown.
The Newmarket handler has never made any secret of the regard in which he holds his Oasis Dream colt and following a couple of near-misses, he made it third-time lucky when successful at Newcastle at the end of June.
He was last seen finishing a clear second behind Estidhkaar in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting and Palmer feels his charge is still on the upgrade ahead of this weekend's Group Three assignment.
He said: "This race has been the plan all along and the plan is to run as long as it stops raining at some stage during the next few days.
"He's in really great shape. He's strengthened, he's grown and he's improved and I've been delighted with the way he's been training during the last month or so.
"I can't wait to get him out again, hopefully on Saturday as long as we get some sensible ground and we aren't racing in a bog."
Aktabantay is one of 14 entries for the Solario, with John Gosden's Royal Ascot winner Richard Pankhurst taking star billing.
A son of Raven's Pass, who won this race in 2007 for the same stable, Richard Pankhurst landed the Chesham Stakes in impressive fashion at the Royal meeting. Gosden also clasmed last year's Solario with Kingman.
Richard Pankhurst ran in the colours of Gosden's wife Rachel Hood at Ascot in June, but will wear the green and red of Sheikh Mohammed's son, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, should he take his chance.
Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock advisor John Ferguson said: "It (change of ownership) has been done recently. We'll see what the trainer decides regarding this weekend. There is plenty of time between now and then."
Scott Dixon has entered Superlative Stakes third Cock Of The North.
Sir Michael Stoute's well-regarded Disegno also features, as does Saeed bin Suroor's once-raced Future Empire, who holds a host of big-race engagements. A second Godolphin possible is course-and-distance scorer Latharnach from Charlie Appleby's yard, with Richard Hannon three-handed through Step To The Shears, Tupi and Lexington Times.
Mark Johnston can choose from Pallister, Mister Universe and Grigolo.
There is a notable Andrew Balding representative in Elm Park, who caught the eye winning at Newbury in the colours made famous by Mill Reef, while Sir Mark Prescott has put in York winner Celestial Path. =====================================
Master French trainer Andre Fabre has confirmed Fintry an intended runner in the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Atalanta Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.
The Godolphin-owned Shamardal filly has won three of her four starts to date, but has not been seen in competitive action since running out an impressive winner of the Prix de Sandringham at Chantilly almost three months ago.
Fabre expects the three-year-old to benefit from this weekend's outing, but is still anticipating a bold show, with a tilt at the Group One Sun Chariot at Newmarket in October already pencilled in.
"The plan is for her to run at Sandown. She would prefer good ground, so we will see what happens," said Fabre.
"She is a nice filly who won her Group Two at Chantilly very well, but after that she picked up a virus and was sick for a while. For that reason, she might need the race on Saturday, but she is a talented filly and I still expect her to run well.
"If all goes well, the Sun Chariot could be the plan."
Fintry is one of 19 fillies in contention for the Group Three contest, with John Gosden responsible for a couple of major contenders in Belle D'Or and Water Hole.
The Johnny Murtagh-trained Galway Festival winner Dalkova is a potential Irish raider.
Other contenders include Karl Burke's Odeliz, William Haggas' Token Of Love and Zibelina from Charlie Appleby's yard. ===================================
Extortionist could rise in trip for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday week following his fine display at York.
Olly Stevens' progressive sprinter took the step into Group One company in his stride by finishing third in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes.
Stevens feels the three-year-old colt could be seen in an even better light over six furlongs, with the Sprint Cup the obvious next port of call.
"We were thrilled with him at York," said the Surrey handler.
"He took that step up comfortably enough and it looks to me like he now needs six (furlongs).
"We'll think about Haydock, but the important thing for him is that it needs to be fast." ======================================
Olly Stevens will give Lightning Thunder time to recover from a hectic workload before the Surrey handler even considers plans for the autumn.
The dual Guineas runner-up has struggled on her last two outings, and was particularly disappointing in a Listed race at Haydock a few weeks ago.
Stevens said: "She is absolutely fine, she threw in a bad one at Haydock, that's all. There are no firm plans as yet, but she had a very tough spring so we will assess our options. We'll sit tight, but if she's bouncing we'll take things from there."
Lightning Thunder still holds entries in a clutch of high-class races, including the Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes at Leopardstown and the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket. ===================================
Louis Vee came out on top in a fittingly pulsating finish as the curtain came down on Flat racing at Warwick for the final time.
Jockey Club Racecourses announced at the end of July that Warwick will stage only jumps fixtures from 2015 onwards.
Four Flat meetings at Warwick had to be switched this summer after a horse died at the track in May amid ongoing safety concerns regarding the stable bend.
The five-furlong Leamington Food & Drink Festival Handicap brought proceedings to a close and it was Roy Brotherton's 7-2 shot Louis Vee who grabbed a slice of history under Luke Morris, getting the better of a thrilling duel with College Doll by a short head.
Brotherton said: "It's amazing really. This really means a lot to me with Warwick being my local course. I've had runners here since I've had a training licence in 1988 and even before then I rode around here over jumps as an amateur in the 1970s.
"It's a shame there'll be no more Flat racing here, but I said if we could win the last race it would be great.
"I thought when all that rain came the ground had gone against us but the horse has still won, so I'm really delighted."
Undoubtedly the most impressive winner of the track's final fixture was the David Simcock-trained Terror (5-1), who slammed her rivals by upwards of 10 lengths on her racecourse debut in the opening fillies' maiden.
Warwick will host 17 jumps meetings as it moves away from Flat racing in an attempt to become regarded as one of the leading small National Hunt courses in the next five years.
The current Flat course will be used in the spring or autumn, alongside the current jumps course which will continue to be used through the winter.
Warwick was the first course to stage National Hunt racing in Great Britain in 1831. =========================================
Izzthatright continued on a marked upward curve with a brave front-running effort to claim Listed honours in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Ripon Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy.
The 9-2 chance has more than paid his way this season and was having his seventh start, most recently being seen winning a Catterick nursery earlier in the month.
Quickly into his stride under Tony Hamilton, the gelded son of Moss Vale showed a most willing attitude as first Explosive Lady and then Bossy Guest threw down strong challenges. The Richard Fahey inmate was in no mood to be passed, however, and knuckled down to see off 9-4 joint-favourite Bossy Guest by half a length.
The victory meant back-to-back successes in the race for Fahey and Hamilton after Supplicant 12 months ago.
Hamilton said: "He had enough toe to get to the rail and he picked up well. He got put up 15lb for his last win, which is a big hike, but he's done nothing but improve since we got him.
"He's very tough and he has a lot of early toe to get you where you want to be. I always thought I had some horse underneath me, so if they'd come to me I think he would have gone again."
David O'Meara bagged another good winner as Bartack picked up the £20,000 Ripon Rowels Handicap, with the 3-1 favourite getting the better of Bold Prediction by a length.
Rider Danny Tudhope said: "He keeps going, he's very tough and he's one step in front of the handicapper at the moment. The yard is going well, the horses are in great form."
Go Sakhee made the journey from Roger Varian's Newmarket base well worth it with victory in the SIS Virtual Betting Channel Handicap.
Given a perfect front-running ride by Freddie Tylicki, the 3-1 chance made every post a winning one, quickening noticeably at the three pole. Edging clear from there, he was well on top entering the final furlong, beating An Chulainn by six lengths.
A 15 pence in the pound deduction was enforced after Moonlight Venutre was withdrawn, breaking out of the front of the stalls and running loose for some time, which led to a lengthy delay.
There was a swift double for Tylicki as he was again positive from the front to take the Billy Nevett Memorial Handicap on Pennine Warrior (85-40 favourite) for trainer Scott Dixon.
Dixon, enjoying his best season to date, told At The Races: "We've always thought he had plenty of ability, when he won at Southwell we were expecting a little bit more from him, although he has been consistent in defeat, so this is a step in the right direction.
"He can be just a little bit lazy early on, so we wanted to shake him up today and make plenty of use of him and stretch them.
"They're running really well, we've beat all our targets for this year so anything from today is a bonus. We're just hoping to win a few big ones towards the back end."
Black Pudding gained a short-head verdict to take the Sallie Lindley Memorial Selling Stakes for the in-form Ann Duffield.
There were three in a line at the furlong pole but it was Black Pudding (7-2) who edged in front before being pressed all the way on his outside by Ripon Rose.
George Duffield, representing his wife, said: "He always looked more than capable of winning a race like this, but seemed to lose his way. I thought there was a race in him, it was just finding it."
The winner was sold for 3,000 guineas.
Lilly Junior (5-1) got off the mark at the seventh attempt, and her first for Brian Ellison, in the SIS Live Maiden Stakes. ======================================
Jamie Osborne accepted Toast Of New York had produced a career-best display when second to potential superstar Shared Belief in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar.
The three-year-old colt, owned by Michael Buckley, got to within two and three-quarters of a length of the Jerry Hollendorfer-trained winner to justify the decision of connections to return to America.
Toast Of New York, brilliant winner of the UAE Derby in March, had previously slightly disappointed at Belmont Park in July.
Osborne said: "I say, probably, he's run the race of his life.
"He stepped up the form from winning the UAE Derby. This is probably his best performance and, sadly for us, he's just bumped into an exceptional three-year-old.
"He'll improve a bit more. I'm very proud of him - he's run a great race. From now on he's going to have to try something different, but he's proved he's a very good horse."
Plans remain fluid for Toast Of New York, who was ridden at Del Mar by Victor Espinoza, although the Dubai World Cup remains a long-term objective.
Osborne said: "We've all sorts of ideas. The Dubai World Cup is obviously a massive target for next year, but I'll have to talk to Michael.
"Do we try him on dirt beforehand? Do we bring him to the Breeders' Cup? There's all sort of options, but he's only three with a big future and maybe he can come back here (California).
"There's no reason to think he won't go on dirt. If he does, just think of the fun we could have with him."
Shared Belief was the leading two-year-old in America last season but missed this year's Triple Crown races with a foot injury.
He is now set for a possible showdown with Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita on November 1.
Jockey Mike Smith said: "He's a special horse. I heard someone say this might be the coming out of a superstar.
"I think now this horse deserves that accolade."
Hollendorfer said: "When you have horses run in these big races, everybody wants to dissect them and be critical.
"What people were wondering was whether he could come down to Del Mar and handle the mile and a quarter.
"He answered that question. There'll be other horses and other races in the future, and we'll be under the microscope again." =========================================
An appearance on Irish Champions Weekend in September appears likely for Euphrasia following a pleasing return to action in France on Sunday.
Joe Murphy's mare had been off the track since finishing third in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh three months ago, but performed with plenty of credit to take fifth spot in the Group One Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville.
With soft ground an important factor, connections are keen to keep their options open for the rest of the campaign.
"We were happy with the run, but maybe a bit disappointed with the result," said Joe Murphy jnr, the County Tipperary trainer's son and assistant.
"She ran well, but she was a bit fresh and did a bit too much down the back. She normally comes home well, but she just galloped on at the one pace in the straight. She hadn't run since May, so you would expect her to improve for the run.
"She's in the Blandford Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend at the Curragh (September 14) and also the Matron at Leopardstown a day earlier, but she'd only run in the Matron if it was soft as a mile is as short as she'd want to go.
"Later on she's in the Group One on Champions Day at Ascot (British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes, October 18), so we'll see.
"The ground does seem to be important to her. We can't really understand it as her action and the way she works at home doesn't suggest she needs soft ground, but that doesn't translate to the track.
"The formbook tells you she's better when the ground is soft." ========================================
The Beresford Stakes at the Curragh and Doncaster's Racing Post Trophy are among a host of options under consideration for stablemates Vert De Grece and Shepherd's Purse.
Leopardstown winner Vert De Grece enhanced his reputation when only narrowly denied by Gleneagles in the Futurity Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday, while Shepherd's Purse made an impressive victorious debut at the same track a day earlier.
Joe Murphy's exciting juveniles appear unlikely to lock horns in the coming months, with connections expecting both horses to make their mark in top company before the season is out.
"Vert De Grece is a nice horse and we were quite happy with the run," said Joe Murphy jnr, the trainer's son and assistant.
"We could look to step him up to a mile now.
"He's in the Beresford Stakes, but we could think about supplementing him for the National Stakes at the Curragh. It might be one or the other of those.
"He's also in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster and we'll put him in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day at Longchamp. I think he might have two runs before the end of the season. He's a talented horse with a great attitude and he only does enough.
"We always thought Shepherd's Purse wanted seven furlongs and would get a mile, so we expected the six furlongs to be the bare minimum for him on Saturday, but he was quite impressive.
"We'll think about putting him in the Round Tower Stakes this coming Sunday at the Curragh and he'll also be entered in the Beresford, the Racing Post Trophy and the Lagardere, so we'll see.
"He's a big horse at nearly 17 hands, but he's obviously got a big engine as well.
"I don't think it will be that difficult to keep him and the other horse apart.
"We wouldn't supplement Shepherd's Purse for the National Stakes off the back of one run, but he might go for the Beresford and then one could go for the Racing Post Trophy and the other could go for the Lagardere."

Race 1 - 1:35pm THE simplythebestevents.co.uk HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, CUSHEEN BRIDGE (IRE), ridden by Adam Pogson and trained by Charles Pogson, compared with its previous run at Southwell on 22 July 2014 where the horse finished sixth of seven, beaten 83 lengths. They noted the explanation of the trainer's representative that CUSHEEN BRIDGE (IRE) was suited by the slower pace of today’s race.
The Stewards considered the running of DEALING RIVER, ridden by Andrew Thornton and trained by Caroline Bailey, which finished unplaced. The Stewards noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding was unsuited by the Good going. They ordered DEALING RIVER to be routine tested.
Race 5 - 3:50pm THE LISA COLLINS MAIDEN HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Will Kennedy, the rider of KONZERT (ITY), had jumped the inspection hurdle prior to the start. Having heard his evidence they accepted his explanation that the gelding broke into a trot, jumping the hurdle of his own accord, despite the jockey's best efforts to prevent him doing so.
The Veterinary Officer reported that SALBATORE, unplaced, trained by Denis Quinn, had bled from the nose.
Race 7 - 5:00pm THE EVENT COMPANY WITH 300 ATTRACTIONS NOVICES' HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5) Conor Shoemark, the rider of SPEED CHECK (IRE), reported that the gelding was hampered by a faller and ran out whilst trying to recover.

Race 4 - 4:30pm THE WESSEX GARAGE HYUNDAI HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) The representative of John Mackie, the trainer of IMPECCABILITY, unplaced, reported that the filly was unsuited by the going, which was good to soft in the back straight and soft in the home straight.
Race 6 - 5:35pm THE BATHWICK TYRES NEWPORT HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Starter that CARAMACK, ridden by Jim Crowley, and trained by Richard Lee, had refused to race. Non-Race related incidents In race seven the Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, MARENGO, ridden by Megan Carberry, and trained by Ed de Giles, which had never previously been placed. The Stewards found Jones in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding, in that he had allowed his mount to go to the rail when not clear, causing Hitchcott to take a slight check. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.
Race 6 - 4:15pm THE CAROLINE'S VISION FOR CANCER NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) The representative of Ronald Harris, the trainer of ZEBS LAD (IRE), unplaced, reported that the colt was unsuited by the soft ground.

McDonald, the rider of the winner, BLACK PUDDING (IRE), on the run to the line. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip down the shoulder in the forehand position. The Stewards suspended P. J. McDonald for 2 days as follows: Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 September 2014.
Charles Bishop, the rider of INVISIBLE EYE, which was pulled up, reported that the gelding moved poorly. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Graham Lee, the rider of RIPON ROSE, placed second, reported that the filly hung left.
Race 2 - 3:00pm THE SIS VIRTUAL BETTING CHANNEL HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) The Stewards considered the running of MARINERS MOON (IRE), ridden by Daniel Tudhope and trained by David O'Meara, which finished unplaced. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding's performance. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Tony Hamilton, the rider of MAGGIE'S DIAMOND, placed fourth, reported that the filly moved poorly. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5 - 4:45pm THE RIPON ROWELS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) The Stewards noted that BOLD PREDICTION (IRE), drawn 9, had anticipated the start and barged the gate at the same moment as the race had been started, thereby enabling the gelding to break quickly. Being satisfied that it was not caused through a faulty action of the starting stalls, they took no further action.
Adrian Nicholls, the rider of MUJAZIF (IRE), which was pulled up, reported that the gelding moved poorly. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 6 - 5:20pm THE SIS LIVE MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) The Stewards noted that TASMANIAN, placed fourth, had interfered with CRYSDAL, unplaced, approximately one and a half furlongs out but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved TASMANIAN’s placing.
The Stewards also noted that TASMANIAN, placed fourth, had interfered with both IFTIKAAR (IRE), unplaced, and CRYSDAL, unplaced, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved TASMANIAN’s placing.

Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, INTIWIN (IRE), ridden by George Chaloner, had hung left handed giving a slight bump to BARTEL (IRE), placed second, ridden by Jack Mitchell. Race 3 - 3:10pm THE totepool SUPPORTING THE SPORT YOU LOVE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into the start of this race. They interviewed Sam James, the rider of BONDESIRE, Paul Hanagan, the rider of SILVANUS (IRE), James Doyle, the rider of HUMIDOR (IRE), Ryan Moore, the rider of LONG AWAITED (IRE), David Probert, the rider of SWISS CROSS, Kieran O’Neill, the rider of TAURUS TWINS, Daniel Muscutt, the rider of COME ON DAVE (IRE), Martin Lane, the rider of LADY GIBRALTAR, and the Starter. The evidence was that TAURUS TWINS anticipated the start, broke open the gates of its stall and began in advance of the other runners. The Starter immediately called a false start and waved his flag to this effect. The Advance Flag Operator initially took several steps to the right before waving the recall flag. The riders explained that having moved to the side the Advance Flag Operator was out of their line of sight, particularly given the poor visibility due to heavy rain and because of this continued on in the race. Being satisfied that a false start had been declared in that no runner had returned to the Starter after the recall flag had been raised the Stewards declared the race void. At a subsequent enquiry into the start, evidence was also taken from the Advance Flag Operator who confirmed he had taken several steps to the right prior to waving the recall flag and also that he did not blow the whistle as required. As the operating procedures were not followed by the Advance Flat Operator the Stewards decided that no action would be taken against the riders and, further, that a report be forwarded to the British Horseracing Authority.
Race 4 - 3:45pm THE STANLEY WOOTTON CONDITIONS STAKES (CLASS 3) Martin Lane, the rider of SPARK PLUG (IRE), unplaced, reported that the gelding hung left.
Race 5 - 4:20pm THE INVESTEC AMATEUR DERBY (IN CELEBRATION OF CAROLINE BEAUMONT) (CLASS 4 HANDICAP) (FOR GENTLEMAN AMATEUR RIDERS) The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference from 1½ furlongs out. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, BARWICK, ridden by Mr R Birkett, had interfered with SKY KHAN, placed second, ridden by Mr K Wood. The Stewards found Birkett in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift right. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.
Race 7 - 5:30pm THE EWELL HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) David Probert, the rider of KILLING TIME (IRE), unplaced, reported that the gelding was never travelling.
Non-Race related incidents The Starter reported that DOCTOR PARKES, trained by Stuart Williams, refused to enter the stalls. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
The Starter reported that TAURUS TWINS, trained by Richard Price, broke from the stalls. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.

Master French trainer Andre Fabre has confirmed Fintry an intended runner in the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Atalanta Stakes at Sandown on Saturday. Andre Fabre: Trains Fintry The Godolphin-owned Shamardal filly has won three of her four starts to date, but has not been seen in competitive action since running out an impressive winner of the Prix de Sandringham at Chantilly almost three months ago. "For that reason, she might need the race on Saturday, but she is a talented filly and I still expect her to run well. "If all goes well, the Sun Chariot could be the plan (for Fintry)." Fintry is one of 19 fillies in contention for the Group Three contest, with John Gosden responsible for a couple of major contenders in Belle D'Or and Water Hole. The Johnny Murtagh-trained Galway Festival winner Dalkova is a potential Irish raider. Other contenders include Karl Burke's Odeliz, William Haggas' Token Of Love and Zibelina from Charlie Appleby's yard.

Olly Stevens will give Lightning Thunder time to recover from a hectic workload before the Surrey handler even considers plans for the autumn. Lightning Thunder: Will be given break after hectic spell The dual Guineas runner-up has struggled on her last two outings, and was particularly disappointing in a Listed race at Haydock a few weeks ago. Stevens said: "She is absolutely fine, she threw in a bad one at Haydock, that's all. "There are no firm plans as yet, but she had a very tough spring so we will assess our options. "We'll sit tight, but if she's bouncing we'll take things from there." Lightning Thunder still holds entries in a clutch of high-class races, including the Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes at Leopardstown and the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.

Extortionist could rise in trip for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday week following his fine display at York on Friday. Extortionist (far right): Haydock option Olly Stevens' progressive sprinter took the step into Group One company in his stride by finishing third in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes. "We'll think about Haydock, but the important thing for him is that it needs to be fast."

16:15 Tuesday 26th August Racing Tips - 26/08/2014
First up apologies for recent times (if anyone is still reading). Terrible stuff. I'm going away at the end of the week for a break but I'm certain we can pick up some points over the next few days and make August respectable. Hopefully that begins with Huntsmans Close who looks about ready to win off this mark. He ran well here a few starts ago, keeping on if hanging a little down the camber, but he returns on easier ground and with the hood left off, which seemed to freshen him up a little last time. He may be US bred but he's won on heavy and his action says some cut is no bad thing. Unlucky last time, he drops in class and gets the verdict over Duke Cosimo. Epsom 15.25 - Huntsmans Close 1pt win
There's bundles of pace at Beverley for their feature and that has to be a worry for the likeable Truancy. It will help the likes of Woodacre and Las Verglas Star a great deal though and preference is for the former. He was just kept at bay last time but will get more of a pace to chase here and has gone from strength to strength since making his much needed reappearance. Up 2lb, he shapes for 12 but a strong test at this trip looks ideal and I'll take 6/1. I can't let Maybeme go unbacked at 25/1 either. She needs a career best, is up in class and never travelled at Beverley a few days ago. However, her last win came over course and distance and she does seem to travel better with Andrew Elliott in the saddle. She has little weight on her back and the time for that course and distance win was very good…she's not a lost cause. Ripon 16.15 - Woodacre 1pt win Ripon 16.15 - Maybeme 0.5pt e/w

Rain, rain, go away Given the amount of rain that fell yesterday I am pleased to report today's courses have been dry since midnight, which is a result. =================================

Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve remains on course for a likely appearance in the Prix Vermeille at Longchamp in a little under three weeks' time after delighting trainer Criquette Head-Maarek in a workout on Tuesday morning. The Motivator filly stretched her unbeaten record to five with a stunning performance in the Arc last autumn, but has so far failed to rediscover that form in 2014. She was beaten by esteemed compatriot Cirrus Des Aigles on her return to action in April's Prix Ganay and was then third in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, after which she was found to have pulled muscles. Head-Maarek has slowly nursed her stable star back to full health and hopes she will be firing on all cylinders in the coming months. "Treve worked this morning with three lead horses over 2000 metres (mile and a quarter) and I was very happy with her. The ground was a bit soft after all the rain, so that helped her," said the trainer. "She seems fine, she's happy in herself and it looks like all the problems are gone, so we keep our fingers crossed. "She is en route to either the Prix Vermeille or the Prix Foy (both September 14), but I think the Vermeille is more likely." Despite her troubled campaign Treve is among the leading contenders for what promises to be a fantastic renewal of the Arc on October 5. Her potential rivals include German star Sea The Moon and John Gosden's Oaks and King George heroine Taghrooda, while Aidan O'Brien's dual Derby hero Australia would be a fascinating addition if given the green light. Head-Maarek said: "Last year she was unbeaten and this year she has been beaten twice, so it is a little bit different. "It is difficult to say I am 100 per cent confident, but all I can say is at this moment I am very happy with the filly. "It is a little too soon to say which horses are going to run, but the Arc is always a strong race. "There is the German horse and the Japanese horse (Just A Way). We don't know if Australia will run, but he is a champion, and although she was beaten in the Yorkshire Oaks the other day, Taghrooda is a very good filly. "There are lots of horses to fear and I never think it is easy to win a race, especially a race like the Arc." ================================ Cirrus Des Aigles is on the road to recovery with trainer Corine Barande-Barbe targeting a fourth victory in the Prix Dollar at Longchamp before a likely return to Ascot for the Qipco Champion Stakes. The French superstar has not been seen in competitive action since suffering an injury when winning the Coronation Cup at Epsom in early June, his sixth victory at Group One level. The eight-year-old won the Champion Stakes in 2011 and chased home Frankel and Farhh respectively in the last two renewals. Barande-Barbe remains keen on another appearance on Champions Day, stopping off in Paris on October 4. The trainer said: "He is very well and is back doing canters. "Our plan is to run in the Prix Dollar and then hopefully go back to Ascot for the Champion Stakes." =================================== Tom Hogan is confident Gordon Lord Byron will return to Haydock in the best possible shape to defend his Betfred Sprint Cup crown on Saturday week. The six-year-old was a brilliant winner of the Merseyside Group One last September, one of three top-level victories during his excellent career. He was found to be suffering from a back problem when disappointing in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, but looked much more like his old self following a two-month break when beaten just a nose by Jamesie in Saturday's Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh. Hogan said: "He's come out of the weekend in great shape and we're hoping he'll improve for the run and come forward a good bit ahead of the race on Saturday week. "If he'd have got the split he'd have won without coming off the bridle on Saturday, so it was a good run and there was no slouching about. A minute and 10 (seconds) at the Curragh is a pretty sharp time. "Hopefully there isn't too much more rain. He's pretty adaptable ground-wise, but he doesn't want it too deep. "I think he'll go to Haydock in as good a form as last year, if not a bit better, so we're looking forward to it." ====================================== A tilt at next month's Qipco Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown could be on the agenda for Al Kazeem after the multiple Group One winner got back on the winning trail at Windsor. The six-year-old was retired to stud at the end of last year after a stunning campaign which saw him land the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot and Sandown's Coral-Eclipse. However, after proving sub-fertile at the Royal Studs in Sandringham, he returned to training with Roger Charlton, back in the colours of previous owner John Deer. Following a pleasing reappearance in a Listed race at Newbury, Al Kazeem was an odds-on favourite for last weekend's Winter Hill Stakes and got the job done in impressive fashion in a course record time. Speaking immediately after the race, Charlton was lukewarm on the idea of an appearance in the Irish Champion Stakes, a race in which he chased home The Fugue last September, but he has had a change of heart. Speaking on his website www.rogercharlton.com, the trainer said: "Al Kazeem did all that could have been expected from him, returning to the winner's enclosure in great style and in the process lowering the course record by 1.33 seconds which I gather is the equivalent of seven or eight lengths. "He has come out of his race well and he was his normal fresh and happy self this morning, in fact he dropped his regular rider whilst trotting. "Unfortunately there are no Group races over nine or 10 furlongs in England during September so we have not ruled out the idea of returning to Leopardstown to run in the Irish Champion Stakes. "There is also the La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte Group Three in France over a straight 10 furlongs on September 19 as an alternative. "After the race I had it in my mind that the Irish Champion Stakes was only 14 days away, it is in fact three weeks and it will at least help bring Al Kazeem forward another notch. "Last season he achieved a Timeform rating of 128 when he won the Coral Eclipse, after his comeback race at Newbury he was given a rating of 108, Timeform have now raised his rating to 119+ so he is in within 9lb or three lengths of his career best. Interestingly the BHA handicapper has dropped him 6lb to a rating of 117. "He clearly needs to improve again to have any chance of adding to his three Group Ones but it is not impossible and we both like a challenge." Al Kazeem's owner is keen to see how his charge performs for the remainder of the season before deciding on his long-term future, but has raised the possibility of him staying in training in 2015. Deer said: "We will see how he runs next time and if all goes well, we could end up in the big one (Champion Stakes) on Champions Day at Ascot. "He was terrific on Saturday and it was a big relief. There are so many questions for a horse to answer when they come back from stud. He obviously still has the will to win, the other question is whether he still has his old ability. "He's a very calm horse, which helps, so we'll see what happens. If he does seem to be back where he was before the end of this season, the right thing to do could be to send him back to Roger next season. He'd be a seven-year-old then and I wouldn't want him to go on any longer than that. "He's obviously been sub-fertile, but hopefully he'll eventually retire to my own stud, Oakgrove Stud. We'll take our time with him and make sure he has a good life." ====================================== Trainer Jamie Osborne has revealed the Breeders' Cup Classic is the most likely next objective for Toast Of New York following his excellent effort in defeat in California. The three-year-old was a brilliant winner of the UAE Derby at Meydan earlier in the year, but after three months off the track, he ran below expectations when only sixth in last month's Belmont Derby. Osborne quickly had a viable explanation for the below-par performance after his stable star returned a dirty scope and he bounced back with a fine second behind the hugely-exciting Shared Belief in the Del Mar Classic. Osborne said: "He's on his way home. As far as I know, everything is fine with the horse. "I had breakfast with Michael (Buckley, owner) before I left (California) on Monday and we're obviously going to take stock of the situation. "I would guess Michael is quite keen to go for the Breeders' Cup Classic. We'll have to look into it as I'm not sure how much it would cost to put him in and all that sort of stuff, but that race is probably favourite at the moment." If Toast Of New York does line up in the Breeders' Cup feature, he would be tackling dirt for the first time and Osborne has raised the possibility of him making a return trip to America early to familiarise himself with the surface. "The obvious issue with going there is the surface. He has never run on dirt before, so it could be that we send him out there early. The race is not until November 1, so we have a good two months to weigh everything up," said the trainer. "It might be a good idea to get a bit of a sense of how he will handle the dirt ahead of next year's Dubai World Cup, although I'm told the dirt surface at Santa Anita and the dirt at Meydan are likely to ride very differently. "If he is going to go to the Breeders' Cup Classic he definitely won't have a run before then. There is nothing for him. The main thing is we're in a much stronger position now than we were after his run in New York. He has proved he is better than that. "He's shown he deserves his place in these big races again and the adventure is still alive." Coral make Toast Of New York a 20-1 shot for the Breeders' Cup Classic, with his Del Mar conqueror Shared Belief their 4-1 favourite. Coral's David Stevens said: "No British-trained runner has ever won a Breeders' Cup Classic on dirt, so Toast Of New York would have to make history to triumph at Santa Anita. "However, he has shown his versatility with a UAE Derby success on Tapeta and now an excellent second on Del Mar's Polytrack so we certainly wouldn't dismiss his chances if he heads back to California." ===================================== Master Carpenter will step up to Group One company for the first time in the Qatar Prix Du Moulin at Longchamp on September 14. The three-year-old missed the Doom Bar Celebration Mile at Goodwood last Saturday as trainer Rod Millman was not totally happy with his condition, although he reports the Mastercraftsman colt to be back in good form now. He said: "He wasn't right going into Goodwood and the ground would have probably been too quick for him anyway. He's fine now. We'll train him for the Group One at Longchamp next month and he'll appreciate the drop back in trip." Three-year-olds boast a respectable record in the race with Excelebration the latest to have reigned for the Classic generation in 2011, while Goldikova (2008) and Rock Of Gibraltar (2002) also won the historic mile contest at the Paris track. Millman did saddle improving filly Bonnie Grey for the Group Three Whiteley Clinic Prestige Stakes at Goodwood and was over the moon with her second-placed effort behind Malabar. He said: "I was delighted with her performance and I'm hoping to find a race at Doncaster for her. She bumped into a really special filly in Mick's (Channon) horse and is improving with every run. "She stayed on great and I'd be hopeful she would get further than seven furlongs in time. We're only a small yard but we've got some nice horses to go to war with now and we're all excited." ================================================== Renaissance Stakes winner Jamesie is likely to return to the Curragh for the Derrinstown Stud Flying Five Stakes on September 14. The six-year-old struck gold at the Dubai Carnival at Meydan earlier in the year and having run a number of creditable races in defeat, David Marnane's sprinter was certainly not winning out of turn when narrowly denying multiple Group One winner Gordon Lord Byron in Saturday's Group Three contest. Marnane said: "We were delighted and he definitely deserved it having run well in all those races all year. Thankfully it was his turn on Saturday." The handler continued: " It was his third run in 16 days in stakes company on good, fast racing ground, so it was a good performance and he stuck his neck out to the line and touched it out. "He won in Dubai earlier in the year, so he's having a good season and we'll probably go back to the Curragh for the Flying Five now. "Five furlongs is probably a bit sharp for him, but it's a stiff five at the Curragh, it's a good pot and we'll have a crack at it. "A little bit of ease in the ground would probably help his cause." =================================== The Irish St Leger at the Curragh and the Long Distance Cup on Champions Day at Ascot are both under consideration for Shu Lewis following her excellent run in defeat last weekend. Monica Dowdall Blake's stable star set out to make all the running in the St Leger Trial at the Curragh and stuck to her guns admirably to finish a close third behind Gold Cup hero Leading Light and talented stayer Royal Diamond. The trainer's husband John Blake admits Shu Lewis is not the easiest mare to keep sound, but hopes she can take her place in one of the big staying prizes before the end of the campaign. Blake said: "We were delighted with her and we weren't surprised she ran so well as it is the first time we've had her absolutely 100 per cent. "We were bitterly disappointed to get pipped for second on the line, but that's racing. We actually did the same to Arctic Fire in Killarney earlier in the year, so what goes around comes around I suppose. "She is entered in the Irish Leger and also entered in Ascot on Champions Day. The Leger is only three weeks away, so we'll have to see. She's a tough mare, but she does have a habit of knocking herself and we just take it day by day with her. "The reason we're open to the Ascot race is because we think she might be better over two miles. She's won three bumpers. "Let's just hope for a bit of luck as it would be nice to win a good prize with her." ====================================== Zebelini gave Ilka Gansera-Leveque her first winner of the season when outrunning odds of 40-1 in the At The Races Sky 415 Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Ripon. Possibly helped by odds-on favourite Grand Beauty proving reluctant going into the stalls and being withdrawn, the daughter of Zebedee was given a positive ride by Lemos De Souza and she stayed on well to hold Zuzinia by a neck. The Newmarket-based handler told At The Races: "Racing definitely has it's ups and downs and that's a nice change for us as we lost a horse on Sunday and now we have a winner." Gansera-Leveque continued: "We all had very high hopes for her and a lot of confidence going into this race. I thought she was going to be my Royal Ascot filly, but things went wrong for her and she had a growth spurt. I always thought she was nice, ever since she stepped off the lorry, and we'll maybe find her a race at Ayr now given the owners are Scottish-based." De Souza, who was having his first ride at the North Yorkshire track and is based at Luca Cumani's yard, said: "She's been working very well at home, so I was pretty confident on her today." Miss Mullberry was also the recipient of a confident ride, this time by 3lb claimer Sam Jones, when she continued on an upward trajectory in the 21 Engineer Regiment Sapper Conditions Stakes. Continuing the good form of David O'Meara's stable, the 3-1 chance was last off the bridle in the five-furlong contest and produced a useful turn of foot to run out a one-and-three-quarter-length winner from Snap Shots. Mixed Message (9-4) got her supporters off to a great start in the At The Races On Facebook Selling Stakes as she claimed her second win on the bounce. The Brian Ellison-trained, Dale Swift-ridden filly arrived buoyed by her Redcar success in similar company and she held the fast-finishing Aneedh by a length. Swift said: "Her win at Redcar has really got her confidence up and once she gets in front she's tough enough and keeps going." Jockey Danny Tudhope picked up a winning spare on Stormardal (7-1) as he gave Ismail Mohammed something to smile about in the attheraces.com City Of Ripon Stakes (Handicap). The three-year-old colt, representing last season's Cambridgeshire-winning trainer never looked like getting beat when grabbing San Cassiano at the two-furlong marker. The Michael Raby Memorial Handicap went the way of Janaab (9-1), his first career success in 10 British starts. Tim Easterby's representative made virtually all under Philip Makin and clearly appreciated the drop back to a mile as he powered clear to beat Charles De Mille by a length and a half. Richard Guest was also among the winners as Pumaflor (9-1) made it fourth-time lucky in the At The Races Virgin 534 Nursery. Making his handicap bow, the son of Aussie Rules rallied gamely under Jason Hart and he broke the heart of long-time leader Midlander to register a cosy three-quarter-length success. Hart said: "He was a little bit green early on but he really tried for me today on a track that probably isn't ideal for him. I think there will be plenty more to come from him on a flatter track." Hart doubled up when Kodicil (4-1) won the Visit Attheraces.com/mobile Stayers Handicap for Mark Walford. ====================================== Chelmsford City racecourse has joined the Racecourse Association, it has been announced. The RCA, which will represent all but one of the 59 venues that will host racing in Britain in 2015, has welcomed the track formerly known as Great Leighs to the fold as officials gear up towards their first meetings next year. RCA chief executive Stephen Atkin said: "We are delighted to see racing back at Chelmsford City Racecourse and to welcome them as the newest member of the RCA. We are looking forward to working with the racecourse on a wide range of issues and helping them in the run-up to their first fixtures.' Phil Siers, Chelmsford's general manager, added: "Now that we are about to start racing, it is essential that Chelmsford City Racecourse is able to benefit from the comprehensive help the RCA can provide. "We are delighted to be a new member and look forward to CCR working with our colleagues there."

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, PUMAFLOR (IRE), ridden by Jason Hart and trained by Richard Guest, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer who stated that the gelding benefited from the good to firm, good in places going having run its previous race on good ground. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of PUMAFLOR (IRE) could be reviewed.
Richard Kingscote, the rider of LITTLE BELTER (IRE), placed fourth, reported that the colt was denied a clear run.
Paul Hanagan, the rider of RISE UP LOTUS (IRE), unplaced, reported that the filly hung left.
Race 4 - 3:40pm THE 21 ENGINEER REGIMENT SAPPER CONDITIONS STAKES (CLASS 3) (BOBIS RACE) The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Jenny Powell, the rider had brought a safety vest that had been modified onto the racecourse. Race 5 - 4:15pm THE attheraces.com CITY OF RIPON STAKES (CLASS 3 HANDICAP) The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of AMBLESIDE, ridden by Paul Mulrennan and trained by Michael Easterby, which broke well from the stalls and raced in last place before being asked for an effort in the home straight to finish fifth, beaten some 5¼ lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer's representative. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer and observations from the Handicapper. The rider stated his instructions were to jump, get a position, creep into the race and do the best he could to achieve the best possible placing. He also reported at Scales that the gelding had raced with his head in the air. The trainer's representative confirmed that having spoken to the trainer on the phone subsequent to the race that he was satisfied with the ride given. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations. The Stewards further found the trainer in breach of Rule (C)46.2 in respect of failing to inform his representative of the rider’s instructions and fined him £290.
John Mackie, the trainer of NORTHERN STAR (IRE), unplaced, reported that the filly was unsuited by the track. They ordered the filly to be routine tested.
Race 7 - 5:20pm THE VISIT attheraces.com/mobile STAYERS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by James Sullivan, the rider of MIGHTY MISSILE (IRE), placed second, from approaching the two furlong marker. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Sullivan for 2 days as follows: Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 September 2014.
Tom Eaves, the rider of ANNE'S VALENTINO, unplaced, reported that the filly hung badly left. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Jordan Nason, the rider of DUBARA REEF (IRE), unplaced, trained by Paul Green, reported that the gelding lost its action and moved poorly. The Veterinary Officer reported that the gelding finished sore.
Non-Race related incidents The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Starter that GRAND BEAUTY (IRE), trained by Richard Fahey, was unruly behind the stalls and withdrawn. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test. This being the second occasion within the previous 12 months that GRAND BEAUTY (IRE) had been reported, the Stewards informed the trainer that if the filly were reported for a third time within the same period, GRAND BEAUTY (IRE) would be prevented from having a stalls test for 6 months.

Race 1 - 4:55pm THE SANTANDER NOVICES' HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) (Betfred Hurdle Series Qualifier) The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of AUTUN (USA), ridden by Nathan Moscrop and trained by Brian Ellison, which was settled mid division and stayed on at one pace to finish fifth, beaten some 33¼ lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer’s representative. The rider stated that the gelding was keen in the early stages due to the slow pace of the race. He added that he had done his best to achieve the best possible placing but that AUTUN (USA) had a breathing problem. The trainer’s representative confirmed these instructions adding that the gelding had had a breathing problem on his previous run so a cross noseband had been fitted to try and rectify the problem. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations. The Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (D)48 and guilty of failing to report that the horse had a breathing problem during the race. They fined him £140.
Donald McCain, the trainer of APOLLO ELEVEN (IRE), reported that the gelding ran without a tongue strap because it had come adrift and could not be re-fitted.

Race 7 - 8:00pm THE HEART 96-107 RADIO STANDARD OPEN NATIONAL HUNT FLAT RACE (CLASS 6) The Stewards held an enquiry into two possible incidents of interference. The first incident was approaching the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that CURIOUS CARLOS, who subsequently fell, ridden by Sean Bowen, had interfered with BLAYNEY QUEEN (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Mr Steven Crawford. The Stewards found Bowen in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he manoeuvred left causing interference. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Tuesday 9 September 2014.
In the second incident, approaching the line, the Stewards found that there was interference between LUCCOMBE DOWN, placed second, ridden by Dougie Costello and CURIOUS CARLOS. The Stewards found that the interference was caused by LUCCOMBE DOWN lugging slightly right as CURIOUS CARLOS lugged left, clipping heels and falling. They found the interference was accidental.

They interviewed the trainer who stated that the gelding was a late maturing horse having it's first run for his yard. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of PEACE ACCORD could be reviewed. The Stewards ordered PEACE ACCORD to be routine tested.
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why James Doyle, the rider of OVERRIDER, unplaced, had been slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start. Tom Hogan is confident Gordon Lord Byron will return to Haydock in the best possible shape to defend his Betfred Sprint Cup crown on Saturday week. Gordon Lord Byron wins last year's Sprint Cup The six-year-old was a brilliant winner of the Merseyside Group One last September, one of three top-level victories during his excellent career. "I think he'll go to Haydock in as good a form as last year, if not a bit better, so we're looking forward to it."

Saturday's Renaissance Stakes winner Jamesie is likely to return to the Curragh for the Derrinstown Stud Flying Five Stakes on September 14. David Marnane: Trains Jamesie The six-year-old struck gold at the Dubai Carnival at Meydan earlier in the year and having run a number of creditable races in defeat, David Marnane's sprinter was certainly not winning out of turn when narrowly denying multiple Group One winner Gordon Lord Byron in Saturday's Group Three contest. Marnane said: "We were delighted and he definitely deserved to it having run well in all those races all year. Thankfully it was his turn on Saturday. "It was his third run in 16 days in stakes company on good, fast racing ground, so it was a good performance and he stuck his neck out to the line and touched it out. "He won in Dubai earlier in the year, so he's having a good season and we'll probably go back to the Curragh for the Flying Five now. The Superior Mile at Haydock on Saturday week is a potential next port of call for Short Squeeze following his dramatic last-gasp victory at York. Short Squeeze (pink) wins The Clipper Logistics Stakes at York Hugo Palmer's four-year-old looked destined for big things after rattling off a hat-trick between July and September of last season, but it has taken a while for him to find the number one spot this term. He was given a brilliantly executed ride from Pat Smullen to get up on the line in a lucrative handicap on the Knavesmire last week and Palmer feels it will have done his gelding's confidence plenty of good. Palmer said: "As I said in the lead-up to last week I'd been scratching my head as to why he'd not been winning races, so it was nice everything came together and we got it right on the day. "He's come out of the race very well indeed and I think he knows he won. "There is a mile Group Three race at Haydock a week on Saturday (Superior Mile), so we'll look at that and see how the horse is nearer the time." Palmer was only narrowly denied a double at York on Thursday as New Providence ran a fantastic race to finish second in the DBS Premier Yearling Stakes, picking up £50,000. "She ran a huge race and it was just a shame she did her racing on the wrong part of the track," said Palmer. "It would have been nice to race against the winner. I'm not saying we would have beaten him, but I think she would have asked him a question. "Either way she ran a huge race and she picked up a fistful of cash, so we're delighted with her. "All being well she'll head for the Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury next." New Sky Bet

Secret Art may want a little more pace to chase at Kempton this evening but he's well worth chancing at 10/1. 1 from 1 over course and distance (from stall 5 too), he is 8lb higher than for that win but a return to this surface could be just what he needs. He has found himself a touch outpaced on quick ground on his last few runs but he stayed on nicely at Goodwood after travelling about best of the field and the yard are flying of late. Cheekpieces go on, George Baker returns and he's been underestimated. Kempton 19.55 - Secret Art 1pt e/w
