After another excellent day in the saddle on Friday at Newmarket, Ryan Moore switches attention to York on Saturday, with six rides booked in. The Betfair ambassador gives us his exclusive thoughts on each...
13:40 York - Dusky Queen I won on her over 7f here in May and then she ran another good race for me when she was third at this track again last time. The step up to 1m should be OK, but the problem is that she has gone up 2lb for that latest effort, and that makes life very tough in competitive races like this. But she loves it here, so let's see. 14:20 York - Waila She hasn't reproduced the form of her 10-length 1m4f Newmarket win in three subsequent starts, but to be fair she probably wasn't far off that level when a close second to an improving horse at Pontefract last time. The step up to 1m6f should suit her and I think the handicapper has given her a real chance off 99 here. I can see her going close, providing they don't get much rain, as she wants it fast. 14:55 York - Bold Sniper Has gone up 3lb for his good second in the Wolferton, which is fair enough, but I am slightly surprised that the bookmakers have made him favourite as I imagine there are better-handicapped horses in here. But he is improving, has only had just the eight starts, and he looks sure to get the strongly-run race that he needs to shine over this trip. Also well enough drawn in seven, so he clearly has chances. 15:30 York - Kingsgate Native Is officially the best horse here, doesn't carry a penalty for his wins in a higher grade, 5f on decent ground suits him well, and he comes here in good form. Those are pretty strong credentials, even if he doesn't have too much in hand of three or four of these, and I rate G Force as a big danger. 16:05 York - Flaming Spear This one looks a likely type on paper, being related to a lot of winners. Is out of first-season sire Lope De Vega and must have impressed at the sales, as he was bought for 260,000gns back in April. The stable has run some of its better juveniles in this race in recent seasons, winning it with Blaine in 2012 and The Grey Gatsby last year, so that gives further encouragement as well. 17:15 York - Epithet This looks a decent nursery and my horse comes here on the back of a disappointing fourth over 7f at Haydock last time. But perhaps the trip on good to soft ground was to blame there - and it may have been a decent race anyway, with the winner running in the Superlative today - and the step back to 6f will see him confirm the promise of his Newmarket maiden win the time before. A mark of 92 isn't overly-generous on what he has achieved so far, though.

Christophe Soumillon is hoping Prince Gibraltar can gain his revenge on British raider The Grey Gatsby is Sunday's Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris. The Grey Gatsby: Runs on Sunday The Jean-Claude Rouget-trained three-year-old signed off his juvenile campaign with a Group One victory at Saint-Cloud and having made a winning reappearance at the same track in early May, he was favourite for last month's Prix du Jockey Club. However, he had to make do with minor honours when making up a lot of ground to be third as Dante Stakes winner The Grey Gatbsy claimed French Derby glory for trainer Kevin Ryan. The two are set to lock horns again at Longchamp this weekend. Both horses will be tackling a mile and a half for the first time. Soumillon said: "I'm delighted to ride Prince Gibraltar in the Grand Prix de Paris. I always thought highly of him and hope he can get his revenge and beat The Grey Gatsby this time. "The trip and ground in any case will suit him. He is tough and has lots of stamina

Temple Lord can end a near 12-month losing streak in the Pride Of Coventry Handicap Chase at Stratford on Sunday, writes Anita Chambers. Jonjo O'Neill: Can enjoy success at Stratford Temple Lord can end a near 12-month losing streak in the Pride Of Coventry Handicap Chase at Stratford on Sunday, writes Anita Chambers. Jonjo O'Neill's charge has not got his head in front since winning at Worcester last August but his recent efforts and a slip back down the handicap suggest he could soon be back on top form. The bare statistics do not really tell the whole story, as Temple Lord has only actually had six runs in the interim as he clearly prefers decent ground and was duly given a break during the winter months when the ground is supposed to be at its worst. The eight-year-old only returned to action at the start of June, finishing a distant third behind The Romford Pele at Worcester when he was tried without any headgear at all. He raced a bit lazily that day so it was no surprise to see the blinkers reapplied at Ffos Las on his next outing and while Temple Lord was only fourth there, he looked much sharper and that was undoubtedly a better effort. A stronger pace that day may well have suited him better and the handicapper has seen fit to drop him a further 1lb, leaving him on a mark of 119 which is just a touch higher than his last winning perch. Temple Lord will clearly have to improve again but is worth a shot in a race that could play to his strengths. Broughtons Warrior made steady progress in four maiden starts and following a recent victory, he is worth supporting in the Pride Of Birmingham Handicap Hurdle. He built on two previous placed efforts when scoring in what appeared to be a decent event at Southwell in May. A sound early gallop brought out the best in Willie Musson's charge and a mark of 115 does not look too harsh. Roc De Prince can take a starring role in the Action Glen Novices' Handicap Chase at Perth. The five-year-old will be having his first outing over fences in this event but having won over hurdles previously, he is clearly not without ability. A blunder two flights from home cost him dearly when only third last time but up until that mistake, he had looked a likely winner and should not be discounted here. Retrieve was a dual Group Three winner in Australia a few years ago and after failing to hit those kind of heights in Britain, he was an interesting addition to the jumps ranks over the winter. He did not make quite the expected splash in his first couple of outings but did come good with a win at Stratford earlier this month. John Ferguson is clearly keen to keep him on the go and Southwell's Nottingham City Transport Handicap Hurdle looks a decent opportunity, with Tony McCoy booked. Heronry is the pick for Nicky Henderson in the Chad Novices' Chase.

Bronze swoops for York gold
Bronze Angel registered his first success since the 2012 Cambridgeshire when making light of the fast conditions in the John Smith's Racing Handicap at York.
The Marcus Tregoning-trained five-year-old had showed signs of a return to form when a close fourth in the Buckingham Palace Handicap at Royal Ascot over seven furlongs and was suited by the step up to a mile.
The 6-1 joint-favourite pulled nicely clear under Martin Dwyer in the final furlong to win by two and a quarter lengths from Bartack. Mujazif was third and Alfred Hutchinson fourth.
Dwyer said: "He was stepping back up to a mile, he was back to his winning mark and Marcus filled me with confidence.
"I was on the best horse and I went for the safe option. I was further back than I wanted to be from the wide draw (11), so I just waited and got him relaxed.
"The last half-mile he flew into the race, he quickened really well and I went to the outside to be sure. He's a proper fast-ground horse."
Bronze Angel could be out again in a valuable handicap in the next few weeks as he holds entries in Ascot's International Stakes on July 26 and the Betfred Mile at Glorious Goodwood.
=========================================== Golden reward for De Sousa
Saeed bin Suroor and Silvestre de Sousa teamed up to land the Spa At Bedford Lodge Hotel Mile at Newmarket as Golden Town opened his account for the year with a determined display.
Representing the combination that clinched Thursday's Princess of Wales's Stakes with Cavalryman, Golden Town was an 8-1 shot having finished down the field in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury and fifth in a Rowley Mile handicap.
With fellow Godolphin runner Safety Check cutting out the early running, the visored Golden Town was given a nice lead into the race before hitting the front passing the two-furlong marker. You're Fired finished with a flourish towards the stands rail, but was half a length down at the line, with Examiner back in third.
De Sousa feels a gelding operation and the application of a headgear has brought about improvement in the three-year-old.
He said: "I think the combination has helped him. It was just a bit of a tweak.
"When he gets to the front he thinks he's done enough, so I had to give him a couple of reminders to keep going, but it's a nice race to win.
"The ground is a bit tacky, but I don't think it will stop a good horse running to his best. It's dried out since yesterday."
Bin Suroor said: "We used the visor two weeks ago for the first time when he worked in the morning and he looked more focussed. That gave us confidence to run him in it today.
"He was a bit keen early, but the strong pace suited him really well."
It has been a significant week for De Sousa, who has found opportunities at Godolphin harder to come by since Kieren Fallon joined the roster of jockeys earlier in the season.
"Silvestre rode the horse really well. He's doing well," said Bin Suroor.
"He won a Group Two two days ago and a good race today. He is a tough jockey and always tries hard."
=================================== Discussion earns Cup bid
Discussiontofollow, who looked unlucky when meeting traffic problems in a valuable race at the Curragh a fortnight ago, made up for the defeat with interest as he landed the totepool Heritage Handicap at Ascot in oh-so-cosy fashion, putting himself in line for a shot at the 32Red Cup (Stewards' Cup).
Mike Murphy's four-year-old was drawn on the stands rail, and jockey Shane Kelly elected to anchor him behind the horses on his side for most of the five-furlong contest.
Milly's Gift was engaged in a battle with Robot Boy but the pair had no answer as Discussiontofollow eased to a head triumph over the former, with Kelly exuding maximum confidence.
The 10-1 winner completed an all-weather hat-trick in the winter but has done well since having his attention switched to grass.
Kelly, who appeared to drop his mount in, enthused: "That was just the way things unfolded - all the pace was with the low numbers, but I knew this fellow would quicken up."
Murphy, recalling the winner's recent run in Ireland, said: "He was stopped in his run and I think he's come on for that. He travelled really well and we knew there was plenty of pace on this side.
"The Stewards' Cup is now in our thoughts, then Pattern races next year, while he may go to the US. He would get seven furlongs over there.
"He's always shown us he's a proper horse. ======================================= Simenon back in jumping groove
Simenon recorded his first victory over timber since May 2012 with success in the Kevin McManus Bookmakers Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary.
One of the most admirable dual-purpose horses in training and twice a Royal Ascot winner, he has been campaigned exclusively on the Flat in recent times, finishing second in last season's Gold Cup at the Royal meeting and fourth in the Melbourne Cup.
He has also run in Japan, Hong Kong and Dubai, and signalled a return to form when fifth to Leading Light in this year's Gold Cup.
Settled in mid-division through the early stages of his jumping return by Paul Townend as Little King Robin cut out the pace, the Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old was still full of running three out and soon joined issue with Darwins Fox from the second-last.
The pair took the final flight almost as one, but Simenon proved the stronger on the run to the line, winning by a length and a quarter as the 10-11 favourite.
Townend said: "His jumping over the first couple was deadly and when I needed at the last he produced.
"It was a true gallop from start to finish, he has loads of class and it's nice to win that.
"I knew the other horse stayed very well but it's nice to get him back to winning ways - he's a real flag-bearer for the yard."
Mullins said: "It can be very tough in those Flat races so it's good to get his head in front again.
"He's in everything from the Irish St Leger to the American St Leger and it also opens up jumps races in America for him.
"He'll be entered for the Galway Hurdle, but I'm not sure if he'd run carrying top weight in it.
"The Nakayama jumps race has a huge prize (Mullins won it last year with Blackstairmountain) and that's another option.
"He'll go somewhere where it's good ground like today. He's not a winter campaigner. He just has lots of options now."
He added: " It looked like he was coming back to form the way he ran at Ascot and he's coming on again now.
"If he ran in a Flat race and ran well he might get a few nice invites like he did last year.
"He showed us he's coming back, today is another example and i think he'll continue on now."
The co-feature on the card was the Listed Excelebration Tipperary Stakes, won by the Tommy Stack-trained Accepted, who was making it two wins from as many starts after his debut success at the Curragh.
====================================== Farraaj gets up for the Cup at York
Farraaj is set to try his hand in Group company after defying the steadier of 9st 11lb in the 55th John Smith's Cup at York.
A return to the Knavesmire for the Group Two Sky Bet York Stakes on July 26, won last summer by subsequent Coral-Eclipse winner Mukhadram, could be on the cards for the fast-ground loving five-year-old.
Andrea Atzeni, winning back-to-back John Smith's Cups, had the Roger Varian-trained Farraaj smartly out of the gates to try to overcome his wide draw, and it worked as he was soon tracking the pace-setting Zain Eagle with the Queen's Bold Sniper not far behind.
Approaching the last half-mile it looked like Zain Eagle and Tom Eaves might have slipped the field after injecting some pace, but Farraaj (6-1) responded to Atzeni's urgings and got on top late in the day to prevail by a length and a half.
Bold Sniper, the 4-1 favourite, was third with Educate fourth.
"He's a good horse on his day, he just needs rock-hard ground. There was no pace in the race, which was unusual for a race like this," said Varian's assistant David Eustace.
"From stall 22 we knew he had to go on and Andrea gave him a great ride, got him in the box seat and the horse making the pace (Zain Eagle) gave us a good tow into the race. For a second I thought he might not get to him as they don't come back in this ground.
"He's got to step into proper Group company now. He could come back for the Sky Bet Stakes."
Varian was at Newmarket, where he said: "He's been a grand servant over the years and it is lovely to see him win a big one. I was glad there was not rain at York earlier in the week, because he needs top of the ground.
"I'm not sure what we'll do next as handicaps are out of the question now - he won off a mark of 111, so we will have to see what suitable Pattern races there are.
"A mile and a quarter on fast ground seems to be ideal for him, but I am delighted to see him win a race like that - he deserves it."
Atzeni, the first rider to win the race two years in a row on different horses after scoring on Danchai in 2013, said: "It's a great race to win and he's a lovely horse.
"I was drawn really wide but he jumped really well and I managed to get a good position.
"He's a good horse on his day and the key with him is the ground - he has to have it fast."
========================================= Wonder Walls effort from Cover
Take Cover (9-1) made every yard to claim the John Smith's City Walls Stakes at York.
The David Griffiths-trained seven-year-old had been an excellent eighth to Sole Power in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, beaten just three lengths, and proved impossible to pass drop markedly in class for this Listed event.
G Force put down a strong bid but the winner was always holding the 7-4 favourite as he gave jockey Andrea Atzeni a quick big-race double after his victory on Farraaj in the John Smith's Cup.
Veteran Kingsgate Native had every chance after being brought to challenge on the outside of the field but was ultimately well-held.
Griffiths said: "He's different league when it's like that. They just can't get to him as he stays six pretty much.
"We did wonder about running him. The ground is quick, but it's safe.
"Hopefully we can kick on now. He'll probably go to Goodwood for the King George Stakes and then back here for the Nunthorpe. I think he's a Group One horse.
"We wanted Andrea, but couldn't get him. When his horse (Eton Rifles) was a non-runner we got him."
======================================== Honour basks in Summer glory
The featured Fred Cowley MBE Memorial Summer Mile at Ascot lost 25 per cent of its contingent owing to the fast ground, a factor that connections of Guest Of Honour warmly welcomed and were rewarded with a Group Two success from the well-backed 11-4 favourite.
Trainer Marco Botti arrived at the track with high hopes that Guest Of Honour could avenge a slightly unlucky defeat in the same contest 12 months previously, in which the Cape Cross entire disliked the false pace.
On this occasion Martin Harley had the five-year-old in pole position to strike, getting a lovely tow into the straight from The Rectifier. When asked to pick up, Guest Of Honour found a telling turn of foot to outstrip Mull Of Killough and Long John.
Botti said: "I was so pleased the rain stayed away and he's shown he's now back to his best.
"He was unlucky in this last season - now we can look towards the Celebration Mile.
"Fast ground is very important to him, as he just can't handle the soft. He's an old-fashioned summer horse, but I need to find races here, as his owner (Giuliano Manfredini) doesn't like campaigning him abroad."
========================================== Guest lifts Bunbury Cup
Heaven's Guest emerged victorious after a thrilling climax to the fiercely-competitive 666bet Bunbury Cup at Newmarket.
The blinkered Ertijaal ensured a true test as he set a strong gallop out in front, but he was a spent force heading towards the final furlong, where Absolutely So and Hoodna came through to dispute the lead, with 12-1 shot Heaven's Guest towards the stands side and Fort Bastion on the far side of the track soon making it four in line as the line loomed.
Heaven's Guest, who also won a valuable handicap at last year's July meeting, poked his head in front where it mattered to take top honours by half a length, with Absolutely So and Hoodna second and third respectively.
Winning jockey Tony Hamilton said: "He had a very good season last season and has just paid for it a little bit this year.
"He got a nice bit of cover there and to be fair he's done it well.
"He appreciates that bit of rain. It's just on the easy side of good and he travelled well and did it well in the end.
"He dug deep and he's a game horse. He likes a fight."
Trainer Richard Fahey said: "He's a hardy pro and a professional racehorse. Seven furlongs and that ground seems to suit him.
"He's a good, hardy sprint handicapper who's nearly won £300,000."
Fahey added: "The cut in the ground seems to help him. He looks after himself when it is not right.
"To be honest, he won two big handicaps last year including a £100,000 race here and he has come down the handicap and come good."
"We tried him in stakes races but he lacks a gear for that and he loves these big handicaps where they go flat out. They are tailor-made for him.
"He is in at Goodwood and he is in the International at Ascot."
========================================== Superlative effort from Hannon ace
Richard Hannon further strengthened his already formidable juvenile squad as Estidhkaar looked every inch a Classic prospect with a runaway victory in the 666bet Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.
It has already been a year to remember for the Malborough maestro, having saddled Night Of Glory to win the 2000 Guineas in his first season with a licence after taking over the reins from his father, Richard senior.
Ivawood shot towards the head of the betting for next May's Rowley Mile showpiece when winning the July Stakes earlier in the week and now Estidhkaar (15-8 favourite) has thrown his hat into the ring following a dominant display under Paul Hanagan.
The Newbury maiden winner was stepping up to Group Two level and having raced up with the pace from the outset, he lengthened clear in the last of seven furlongs to score by en emphatic four and a half lengths from Aktabantay.
Paddy Power and RaceBets make the winner a 20-1 shot for the Qipco 2000 Guineas and Hannon is keen to test his powers at the highest level sooner rather than later.
He said: "You have to love his long action. He puts his head down and gets on with the job. He shows a really likeable attitude and he'll be a lovely horse for next season.
"He impressed me and looks like he will get further. We could run over seven furlongs again, go over a mile or back over six furlongs, because you can ride him any way you want as he's so relaxed. He's a gentleman.
"We knew he was a smart horse and to be a half-brother to a champion two-year-old (Toormore) he must have an engine.
"Goodwood is a possibility and races like the Dewhurst and the Royal Lodge.
"He's a nice Guineas horse for next year."
Hannon went on to saddle a second two-year-old winner on the afternoon as stable jockey Richard Hughes guided 2-1 favourite When Will It End to a comfortable victory in the Spa At Bedford Lodge Hotel Nursery.
=========================================== Lynam targets Aussie Power play
Eddie Lynam is keen to give Slade Power the chance to stamp himself the world's best sprinter in Australia later this year after he continued his fantastic summer with a brilliant display in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket.
Given a nice lead into the race by Spanish raider Noozhoh Canarias on the far side of the track, Wayne Lordan's mount was ridden to lead entering the final furlong and was well on top as he passed the post a length and a half clear.
Tropics, a 66-1 outsider, ran a massive race to fill the runner-up spot for Dean Ivory, with the John Gosden-trained Gregorian finishing strongly to grab third ahead of American runner Undrafted.
Haydock's Betfred Sprint Cup on September 6 looks likely to be Slade Power's final appearance in Europe before he is prepared for his trip Down Under, where he will bring down the curtain on his racing career before taking up stallion duties.
Lynam said: "Stupidly I watched the race on the inside of the track and I couldn't see anything. They were all just running up in a blur, but I knew he was up in the front of the pack and I'm delighted with the result.
"I've always spoken of him very highly and thought he was very good.
"I'm looking forward to taking him to Melbourne. The last race of his career will be in the VRC Sprint in Melbourne in November.
"I think today he's proved he's the best sprinter in Europe and the obvious step now is to try and make him the best sprinter in the world. What better place to go than Australia and try to beat them on their own patch? It won't be easy, but we'll give it a go.
"Ideally, we've about eight weeks between now and Haydock and then eight weeks between Haydock and the VRC Sprint.
"Haydock is a maybe, nothing else."
Ivory was rightly thrilled with the effort of Tropics.
He said: "I'm absolutely over the moon. It doesn't get much better than this. It was a phenomenal run.
"The way this horse won his Group Three last year, there was so much more to come but the yard just took a long time to get going this year.
"We had a bug in the yard and one thing and another, but we've come through that and the horses have started to run a lot better.
"You've got to keep believing in them. You've got to keep getting up every morning and say 'there's more to come'.
"We will now sit on it for a little bit. He is in the Haydock race and the big one at Ascot on Champions Day. We will find our way through the calendar until the end of the year.
"He is a better horse in the autumn and I would like to send him abroad then."
Gosden was left to rue what he felt were traffic problems for Gregorian.
He said: "He didn't have a good run and he got shut off and he was forced to come down the middle of the track. He finished very strongly and should have finished a solid second. I am not saying he would have won but he would have given him a good fright."
The Wesley Ward-trained Undrafted is owned by American football star Wes Welker, who said: " It was a great effort as he was up against great horses in this race. The sticky ground was not ideal for him but I was happy with the outcome."

The less said about yesterday the better. Southwell makes no appeal and so Perth is in focus. The feature handicap chase looks to have a standout progressive sort at the head of the market and I fancy Imjoeking will win well. The rest have questions to answer, are not well treated, or have never jumped a fence and the top weight, who has help form Craig Nichol's claim, should appreciate the step up in trip. The worry is the rain. It's good to firm at the moment and if it is no worse than good, he looks a solid bet. Keep an eye on the forecast. Perth 16.05 - Imjoeking 2pt win

There was no joy for Kevin's followers last week, with his two selections running below expectations at Bellewstown on Saturday, but today's card at Fairyhouse presents a few opportunities for him to get back on the winning trail...
Looking Back
Disappointment all around at Bellewstown last Saturday with both of my selections running below form, but such is the nature of the game and as always there is something to be learned from those reversals.
The first selection was Princess Tamay in the mile handicap and the hope was that the lack of early pace inside of her would allow her to get a very good position on the rail. That worked out just as hoped, but it was an abundance of pace from her outside that causes her problems, as the lead changed hands a couple of times which led to her getting shuffled back a bit further than ideal.
The consequence of that was that she had a lot of traffic in front of her when she needed room early in the straight and such are the undulations of Bellewstown, it isn't a track that makes it easy to switch and change direction in tight quarters on numerous occasions as Princess Tamay had to. I thought it was a fair run from her to finish a close sixth and she isn't one to give up on in a similar contest on a firmer surface.
There isn't as much to be said about the second selection Ever Yours, who was recommended to place in the Tierney Kitchens Handicap. Ucanchoose and La Canaada did indeed put plenty of pace to the race from their outside draws as hoped, but unfortunately, it was just all too sharp for Ever Yours. She was outpaced from the outset and never threatened to make the late headway I had hoped she would. A return to six furlongs is likely to be on the cards for her.
This Week's Plays
The Irish flat racing roadshow rolls into Fairyhouse today and a couple of runners stand out as being appealing bets.
The David Marnane-trained Jamesie has already done this column a turn this season and he could well do us an even bigger one in the Listed Belgrave Stakes (15:40) today.
As was discussed previously, he has improved for the drop to sprint distances this year and has acquitted himself very well in his last two starts over five furlongs, but his latest outing at the Curragh went a long way to suggest that the return to this six furlong trip will prove ideal. As well as that, Jamesie has always been well suited by racing around a turn, so the fact that Fairyhouse is one of the few tracks in this part of the world that offers a turning six furlongs at this high level is a significant positive.
Darwin and Russian Soul would be big dangers if at their best, but both of those have significant doubts attached to them. His main rival looks to be Sailors Swan and while he is clearly unexposed and progressive, the form of his latest start hasn't really worked out bar the winner and this will be his first time outside of three-year-old only company. All told, Jamesie's lower profile should lead to him being a value proposition and he is worth supporting.
The second and main race of interest is the Follow Fairyhouse On Twitter Handicap (17:10) and in truth, it isn't the strongest of handicaps. One stands out from the pack and that is the Gordon Elliott-trained Moonmeister. He is very well bred being by Mastercraftsman out of the smart sprinter Moon Unit, but he didn't show much in four starts for Joanna Morgan last season.
However, a switch to Gordon Elliott and a winter to mature seems to have done the trick, as he looked a different animal on his return to action at Bellewstown last weekend, overcoming a slow start, a dislike for the track and no shortage of traffic problems to get up close home and win the race that our Princess Tamay finished sixth in.
The form has already been working out well, with the third having won at Dundalk yesterday and the fifth finishing a close second at Navan on Friday. Thus, a 9lb rise seems fair and with improvement very much forthcoming both from that first really competitive racing experience and in fitness terms, as well as him being sure to be better suited by this longer trip and more orthodox track, he looks to be a solid bet to follow up in this weaker contest.
Recommended Bets
Back Jamesie 1pt to win @ 6.0 or better - Fairyhouse 15:40 Back Moonmeister 2pts to win @ 3.5 or better - Fairyhouse 17:10

Ryan Moore heads across the English Channel on Sunday to ride The Grey Gatsby in the Grand Prix De Paris at Longchamp. The Betfair ambassador assesses his chances...
18:20 Longchamp - The Grey Gatsby
This horse is really growing on me, and he was very impressive when winning the French Derby by three lengths last time. Obviously, the big question mark here is will the combination of the step up to 1m4f on the forecast very soft ground prove his undoing. The short answer is that we won't know until the race is run.
He did win the Dante with cut in the ground but he was below-par in the Racing Post Trophy on soft ground last season. I wouldn't mind a bit of cut for him, but heavy ground would blunt one of his biggest weapons - his turn of foot - so I am hoping it isn't too bad.
Heavy ground won't be an issue for the French Derby third Prince Gibraltar, as his earlier victories came in very deep conditions. It is no surprise to see that he has been made favourite but this is no two-horse race as the likes of Guardini and Gallante also have chances.
But I am on the improving form horse, and we shouldn't lose sight of that.

Aktabantay is likely to have his next run in the Solario Stakes at Sandown on August 30. Estidhkaar beats Aktabantay on Saturday Hugo Palmer's highly-regarded juvenile finished second behind the impressive winner Estidhkaar in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. There are plenty of options remaining this season, including the Breeders' Cup, but Palmer is already thinking of next season's Greenham Stakes. "He's no longer a talking horse," said Palmer. "The winner got first run on us and I'm not saying by any stretch they we might have beaten him, but he had a three-length head start on us. "The first thing William (Buick) said to me was that he hated the ground and that on decent ground he'd have found another gear. That surprised me as I thought he'd like it. "We've got to enter him in the Dewhurst and Champagne Stakes, races like that, but it's probably easier to say where he won't go. I don't think Goodwood would be his track so he won't be running in the Vintage. "There's a race in France, the Prix de Cabourg (August 3), which is not impossible, but the most obvious answer is the Solario. "He certainly stayed the seven furlongs. He's out of a mare who won over a mile and a quarter, so you'd hope he'll get a mile. "The Breeders' Cup is not impossible, we've already had them on, but the race I'm working backwards from is the Greenham."

The Goodwood Cup remains the most likely next port of call for Estimate after she narrowly failed to defend her Royal Ascot crown last month. Estimate (centre): Only narrowly failed to claim back-to-back wins in the Gold Cup The Sir Michael Stoute-trained mare produced one of the biggest stories of the season last year when landing the Gold Cup in the colours of the Queen and was beaten just a neck by Leading Light on her second crack at the two-and-a-half-mile Group One. The Queen's racing manager John Warren reports the five-year-old to have recovered from her Ascot exertions well and she now appears bound for a trip to the Sussex Downs on July 31. Warren said: "She's really good. She came out of Ascot very well. I saw her earlier this week and she looked great. "I think we're probably looking towards Goodwood with her, all being well. "It was a shame we couldn't get a run into her before the Gold Cup. You are left wondering what might have been, but she ran a mighty race and we were so proud of her."

Connoisseur seeking Gold gains Suzi's Connoisseur is to be aimed at the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup after his luckless run at Newmarket last week. After completely blowing the start, Hugo Palmer's three-year-old rattled home to finish a never-nearer fifth. Palmer had a slight issue with the starter, though, as jockey Noel Garbutt had shouted not to let them go. "I slightly let myself down in the stewards' room afterwards as I went in there mad as hell, which you should never do," said Palmer. "Noel told me he shouted at the starter not to let them go as he was trying to get out under the gate, yet he sent them on their way. "He must have lost five lengths at the start, yet was beaten less than that so I think he must have nearly won. "I knew he'd handle the ground, as he did at Epsom - at Ascot he didn't stay a mile in the Britannia and the ground was quick. "Despite being 25-1 I'd written on my website and told a lot of people that he'd run a big race, so to see him run like that but not get each-way money was pretty hard to take. "He'll be entered in the Ayr Gold Cup now as you'd think he'll get his ground." ======================================== York target for Battersea Battersea could head to next month's Ebor Festival at York following his victory at Ascot on Saturday. The three-year-old shed his maiden tag in style with a length-and-three-quarters victory in a £50,000 event and could now tackle the Betfred Melrose Stakes on the Knavesmire on August 23. Trainer Roger Varian told "That was a good race to break your maiden in. He is a progressive horse. He stays well and will be an even better four-year-old. We may look at the Melrose for him next." ======================================== Bronze plan hinges on ground Bronze Angel's next race will be determined purely by the ground after Marcus Tregoning's 2012 Cambridgeshire scorer returned to winning ways at York on Saturday. He holds entries in both the International Stakes at Ascot on July 26 and the Betfred Mile at Goodwood on August 1, but Tregoning believes there is no point in running him in either unless the ground is fast. Bronze Angel had signalled a return to form when fourth in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. "It was a good performance and we know he goes well on fast ground which he hasn't really had much. He's back to his best," said Tregoning. "We can look forward to the rest of the season now and his next race will either be at Ascot or Goodwood, but we'll just let it simmer for a bit as he has to go where the ground is fast. There's not much point in running him if the ground is any softer than good. "I know he'll be well fancied for both and people like to bet early on these races, but we'll simply go where the ground is most suitable for him. "One mile, or a mile and one on a straight track is his optimum - over seven furlongs you just meet a different type of horse." =========================================== Aktabantay set for Solario run Aktabantay is likely to have his next run in the Solario Stakes at Sandown on August 30. Hugo Palmer's highly-regarded juvenile finished second behind the impressive winner Estidkhaar in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. He's out of a mare who won over a mile and a quarter, so you'd hope he'll get a mile. "The Breeders' Cup is not impossible, we've already had them on, but the race I'm working backwards from is the Greenham." ============================================== Darwin back to winning ways Aidan O'Brien's American import Darwin got his career back on track with victory in the feature Belgrave Stakes at Fairyhouse. When he beat Gordon Lord Byron this time last year the future looked bright for the former Todd Pletcher inmate, but in three runs since then he had failed to trouble the judge. He had been well-beaten twice behind Slade Power this season, most recently at Royal Ascot in the Diamond Jubilee, and was dropped markedly in class for the Listed contest against seasoned campaigners. Joseph O'Brien was positive and kicked well clear entering the final furlong but the 2-1 favourite was clinging on at the finish, with Russian Soul gaining with every stride, before getting home by a short head. Jamesie was not far away in third. The rider said: "The last day at Ascot was a bit of a shock to his system. "He was better today and I probably got to the front too soon, but around here I needed to ride him a bit more positive as he gets the trip well. "When he gets fast ground and a straight track I don't know how high he can go. "He is entitled to go back into Group company now and he'd handle hard ground. "It was grand safe ground today, but anything worse than good to firm he wouldn't really like it." It was the second leg of a double for the O'Briens but there was nearly an almighty shock in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden with long odds-on favourite Cape Clear Island clinging on by a nose from Windsor Beach. Cape Clear Island had been a beaten market leader twice already but that did not stop punters piling in, forcing his price into 1-5 at the off. All looked to be going smoothly as he kicked clear well over a furlong out, but his mount proved awkward, first veering to his left and hampering Baldonnel, and then as Windsor Beach came with a rattling run from the rear Cape Clear Island edged towards him. Favourite-backers initially had to endure a wait to hear if he was first past the post, which he was by a nose, and then a lengthy discussion by the stewards but the placings remained unaltered. The John Oxx newcomer Looper made a highly encouraging debut in third. Cape Clear Island is entered in the Phoenix and the National Stakes later in the season. "I think he's better than he's showed so far. I'd get there later if I could do it again," said Joseph O'Brien "He just got beaten at the Curragh but the winner (Accepted) went on to win a Listed race at Tipperary yesterday and he is entitled to go up in class now." The good run of form from the Ger Lyons stable continued as Greek Canyon (11-2) battled back gamely to land the Lyrath Estate Hotel & Spa Summer Ladies Day Handicap. Always up with the pace, he looked like being swallowed up a furlong out as Invincible Ridge and Kiss The Stars headed him. Colin Keane refused to accept defeat on the five-year-old and to his credit he fought back to lead on the line to beat Kiss The Stars by a short head. "He's fair genuine. He won four last year when we needed winners and that's our 30th this season," said Lyons. "He was sold as a two-year-old to go to Hong Kong but he failed the vet." Dermot Weld's Emerita (2-1) looks a name to remember after cruising to victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden. Only fifth on her debut last month, she looked a different proposition on this occasion and it was obvious from a long way out that she was travelling better than the favourite Tap Dancing, who yet again had to settle for second. Emerita was a well-backed 2-1 chance and was heavily eased down by Pat Smullen on crossing the line. Weld said: "She's crying out for a mile and a half. You won't see her a lot this year as she's a lovely big filly for next year." Jim Bolger's is another stable in red-hot form and he was on the mark with Teoirim (5-2) in the Fingal Ravens Apprentice Rated Race. Ger Flynn, Bolger's travelling head lad, said: "She has been on the way back, she was second in Down Royal and then fourth to Panama Hat. "Ronan (Whelan) said she relished the ground and the trip. He sent her for home early and she got the job done." ======================================== Sprint in Danzeno sights Next month's Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock is a potential target for Michael Appleby's exciting sprinter Danzeno. The three-year-old made a hugely impressive start to his season at Newmarket in April and although he disappointed in a valuable handicap at York on his next start, he bounced back with victory in Newcastle's Group Three Chipchase Stakes. Although plans remain fluid at this stage, Appleby is considering whether to give his charge another run before a potential trip to Merseyside for a shot at Group One glory on September 6. Appleby said: "He's in great order but where we'll go next, I'm not sure. "He's in the Haydock race in September. Whether we'll get another run into between now and then I don't know. "He could possibly have one run before Haydock, but I'm not sure where that would be. There aren't that many races for him. "He's not a horse I want to be travelling abroad with this year as he's still a young horse and I'm not sure he'd cope with it mentally." =========================================== Top targets on Maarek agenda Evanna McCutcheon has given her star sprinter Maarek several entries in the hope of getting plenty of give in the ground somewhere in about a month's time. The seven-year-old is a top-notch performer when the mud is flying, as he showed when winning the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp last autumn. Winner of the Duke of York Stakes in May, the Pivotal gelding has not raced since finishing second to subsequent Diamond Jubilee hero Slade Power in the Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh later that month. Races that could come under consideration include the Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh on August 10, the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York on August 22 and the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on September 6. "He's good. He's on a break at the minute and then we'll look at some races in August for him," said County Tipperary-based McCutcheon. "We'll see where the weather takes us. He's in the Nunthorpe, a race at the Curragh and at Haydock in September as well." =========================================== Goodwood goal for Estimate The Goodwood Cup remains the most likely next port of call for Estimate after she narrowly failed to defend her Royal Ascot crown last month. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained mare produced one of the biggest stories of the season last year when landing the Gold Cup in the colours of the Queen and was beaten just a neck by Leading Light on her second crack at the two-and-a-half-mile Group One. The Queen's racing manager John Warren reports the five-year-old to have recovered from her Ascot exertions well and she now appears bound for a trip to the Sussex Downs on July 31. "It was a shame we couldn't get a run into her before the Gold Cup. You are left wondering what might have been, but she ran a mighty race and we were so proud of her." ========================================== Honourable second for Panther Brown Panther had to settle for second in the Prix Maurice de Nieuil at Longchamp. The Tom Dascombe-trained Gold Cup fourth was given a patient ride by Richard Kingscote, with just a couple behind him over a half a mile out. Taking closer order at the top of the straight, he had every chance but found Christophe Soumillon's mount Terrubi too strong, and though t he British raider stuck to his guns he was always being held, ultimately going down by a length and a half to the Pascal Bary-trained winner, with Going Somewhere third. Kingscote said: "He ran well, he relaxed really well but the winner picked up at the two-furlong pole and there was nothing we could do. "When I first came upsides the winner I thought I was still going reasonably well, but he just had another gear." Dascombe said: " He has run his race, he settled well and travelled. "I think we were virtually upsides the winner turning in, and he just quickened up better than us. "We've got no excuses, it's a shame we got beat but he will go to Goodwood now." =========================================== Rain scuppers Gatsby at Longchamp French Derby hero The Grey Gatsby was well beaten in sixth as Andre Fabre's Gallante produced a shock in the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp. Having to race on a rain-drenched surface and at a mile and a half for the first time, the Kevin Ryan-trained colt never looked entirely happy from quite an early stage and was the first of the market principals to be beaten. To his credit, Ryan Moore's mount plugged on down the straight, finishing one place behind John Gosden's Marzocco, who had soon taken the Group One field along in the hands of William Buick. Favourite Prince Gibraltar, an unlucky-in-running third in the French Derby, looked to have all bases covered turning for home but found first Teletext a tough nut to crack before Gallante hit another gear in the Derrick Smith colours to foil Jean-Claude Rouget's hotpot. North Yorkshire trainer Ryan said: " Ryan told me that from the moment he left the gate he knew he was in trouble. "He just absolutely hated the ground. He ran respectably, I can't say he didn't get the trip - the way he ran his race and the way he finished his race I think he will get a mile and a half no problem. "But I wouldn't want to run him on soft ground again." Asked about supplementing for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe back at Longchamp in October, Ryan said: "You would have to be brave to supplement for an Arc at that time of the year, but obviously we can wait until quite close to the Arc before making a decision and anything can happen at that time of the year. "I t remains a possibility if we thought the ground was right and he will go for the Juddmonte International at York next. "Ryan said to me before the race he would look after him and he would know after a furlong if he was handling the ground or not, he gave him a fantastic ride. It was just unfortunate the rain was coming and so much of it." Gosden was thrilled with the run of Marzocco, and has Doncaster in September in mind. He said: "I am absolutely delighted with him, he ran a nice race and it's just sad for everyone there was so much rain. "He ran a solid race and I am going to train him for the Leger."

VINTAGE CROP, one of the most popular horses of the 1990s after he became the first European-trained winner of the Melbourne Cup, has died. ======================================= Hey big spender David Redvers has spent big in Japan today, buying a Deep Impact colt out of Listen, winner of the Fillies' Mile for Aidan O'Brien in 2007, for 260,000,000 yen (£1,497,746) for Sheikh Fahad Al Thani. ======================================== More McCoy joy? Champion jockey Tony McCoy needs one winner to equal his old boss Martin Pipe's tally of 4,191. McCoy has four rides at Newton Abbot today. =========================================

20:00 Monday 14th July Racing Tips - 14/07/2014
Al Manaal is tempting at a price for the fillies' handicap at Windsor but has a tough ask under top weight. This often goes to a 3 year old and I liked the look of Prairie Rose but she doesn't line up. However, ahead of Prairie Rose at Goodwood was Joys Of Spring and she looks well handicapped despite being beaten by over 10 lengths on handicap debut last time. By Invincible Spirit, she didn't seem to get home over 10 furlongs and, though there's plenty of stamina on her dam side, a mile looks about right for now. 5/1 is fair enough. Windsor 20.00 - Joys Of Spring 1pt win

Ayr, 14 July 2014
4.00, fourth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, GONINODAETHAT, ridden by Graham Lee and trained by Jim Goldie, compared with its previous run at Ayr on 6 July 2014 where the gelding finished sixth of six , beaten 23½ lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that GONINODAETHAT was better suited by the softer ground on this occasion.
4.30, fifth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, TADALAVIL, ridden by Samantha Bell and trained by Linda Perratt, compared with its previous run at Hamilton Park on 1 July 2014 where the gelding finished ninth of eleven, beaten 9¾ lengths. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form.
5.00, sixth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, ESCAPE TO GLORY (USA), ridden by Paul Mulrennan and trained by Michael Dods, compared with its previous run at Carlisle on 25 June 2014 where the gelding finished eleventh of sixteen, beaten 13½ lengths. They noted the explanation of the trainer’s representative that ESCAPE TO GLORY (USA) had benefited from the drop back in trip. They ordered ESCAPE TO GLORY (USA) to be routine tested.
5.30, seventh race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference shortly after the start. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that WOR LASS, placed second, ridden by Luke Leadbitter, had interfered with INNISCASTLE BOY, unplaced, ridden by Rachael Grant. The Stewards found Leadbitter in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he manoeuvred left handed towards the rail carrying Rachael Grant off her intended line. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 July 2014.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Luke Leadbitter, the rider of WOR LASS, placed second, inside the final two furlongs. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Leadbitter for 2 days as follows: Thursday 31 July and Friday 1 August 2014.
14/07/2014
Lingfield Park, 14 July 2014
6.20, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Stipendiary Steward that he had observed Amy Scott using her mobile phone outside the designated area. They interviewed Scott and the Stipendiary Steward. Having heard their evidence the Stewards found Scott in breach of Rule (D)33.1 and fined her £290.
6.50, third race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, DINNERATMIDNIGHT, ridden by Jim Crowley and trained by Ralph Beckett, compared with its previous run at York on 15 May 2014 where the gelding finished fourteenth of nineteen, beaten by 20 lengths. They noted the trainer’s representative's explanation that the gelding benefitted from the step up in trip to 6 furlongs from 5 and appreciated the polytrack surface. They ordered DINNERATMIDNIGHT to be routine tested.
7.20, fourth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, MARMARUS, ridden by Ryan Tate and trained by Clive Cox, compared with its previous run at Lingfield Park on 28 June 2014 where the colt finished fifth of eight, beaten by 19 lengths. They noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that the gelding was better suited by the polytrack surface.
14/07/2014
Windsor, 14 July 2014
6.00, first race
The Stewards noted that JOYOUS, placed fourth, had interfered with FIRST IN COMMAND (IRE), unplaced, inside the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved JOYOUS’s placing.
7.00, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the falls of Richard Kingscote, the rider of CARROT TOP, and James Doyle, the rider of STAR FIRE, 2½ furlongs out. They interviewed Kingscote, Doyle, Sean Levey, the rider of GEN I AM, unplaced, and Ryan Moore, the rider of RENAISSANT, unplaced. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the incident, the Stewards found that Kingscote’s fall was caused by CARROT TOP clipping the heels of GEN I AM, as a result of which STAR FIRE was brought down. Being satisfied that the incident was accidental, the Stewards took no further action.

American sprinter Undrafted will be prepared for a tilt at next month's Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York following a fine run in defeat in Saturday's July Cup. American sprinter Undrafted will be prepared for a tilt at next month's Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York following a fine run in defeat in Saturday's July Cup. Undrafted (black and yellow silks): Could match Slade Power in the July Cup Trainer Wesley Ward has become well-known for his juvenile raids on Royal Ascot in recent seasons and enjoyed a first visit to Newmarket's July course as Undrafted stepped up to Group One level under Frankie Dettori. Despite not being in love with the rain-softened ground, the four-year-old was beaten just two lengths into fourth, carrying the colours of American footballer Wes Welker. Ward said: "He came out of the race in fantastic shape. We have no issues at all and he is staying with Robert Cowell for a week before he comes home. "We were very happy with how he performed and were unlucky with the ground. I am told if the race was taking place this coming weekend we'd have been in better shape weather-wise, but that would probably the case for a few other horses. Watch a FREE replay of the July Cup right here! "All in all we are very proud of him, he ran a valiant race on ground he doesn't care for and it was a wonderful trip and an unbelievable experience for me and his owner. "All being well he'll be coming back for the Nunthorpe and hopefully Mr Dettori will take the call again." Undrafted is unlikely to be Ward's only runner on the Knavesmire next month as Windsor Castle Stakes winner Hootenanny is being primed for the Gimcrack Stakes. "With Hootenanny coming over for the Gimcrack, hopefully we'll have a great couple of days at York. I can't wait," said Ward. "Hootenanny is in just fantastic shape at the moment and I wouldn't expect the step up (to six furlongs) to be an issue." Audacia's next target is likely to be determined by the ground given her preference for a soft surface. Hugo Palmer: Making plans for his Audacia Hugo Palmer's four-year-old defied her relatively low rating to win the Listed Pipalong Stakes at Pontefract last week. That win boosted her value for the paddocks and a step up in class has not been ruled out. "Audacia is quite hard to place as she's won a Listed race but was only rated 85 so she'd now have to carry a penalty in other Listed races," said Palmer. "She was going to run at York at the end of the month and still might (British Stallion Studs EBF Lyric Fillies' Stakes, August 25), that's not impossible. "She's done her job, though, and we'll have to wait for her ground whatever. "I suppose a good race for her would be the (Thoroughbred Breeders Association) Atalanta Stakes (August 30) at Sandown but that's the same day as the Solario which is where we want to run Aktabantay so if the ground is good enough for him to run it will be too fast for her."

Multiple Group One winner Al Kazeem is set to make his eagerly-anticipated return to action in the Doom Bar Stakes at Newbury on Saturday. Al Kazeem: Likely to reappear this weekend The six-year-old claimed the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot and Sandown's Coral-Eclipse during a stunning campaign in 2013, after which he was retired to the Royal Studs in Sandringham after being bought by the Queen. However, after reportedly getting only around 25 mares in foal, he returned to training with Roger Charlton in May and is now ready for his competitive comeback. Charlton said: "At the moment, it's looking likely he will run on Saturday. "I'm very pleased with him. He looks fit and well and I think he's fairly straight. "It's a Listed race and he gets in without a penalty, so it's a good place for him to go. "There is talk of some rain tonight and there are showers forecast for the weekend, which wouldn't be against us."

Fixtures go-ahead for Chelmsford
Chelmsford City racecourse has been approved allocation of 12 'start-up' racedays for next year by the British Horseracing Authority.
The currently closed venue at Great Leighs in Essex has been purchased by a syndicate headed by Fred Done of Betfred, and is to be renamed with a view to reopening in 2015.
Chelmsford City can then apply for further BHA controlled fixtures via the annual fixture allocation process.
After its latest meeting, the BHA board has also informed Arena Racing Company that any of Newcastle's exiting Flat Turf meetings can be transferred to their new proposed all-weather track.
The fixtures total in 2015 is set to be similar to the 1,464 of 2014, while consultation on various topics is still ongoing.
Ruth Quinn, director of racing for BHA, said: "Firstly, we would like to place on record our appreciation for the level of participation and constructive engagement in the consultation process, including the wide range of suggestions for opportunities to improve field sizes.
"A number of factors raised in the consultation were taken into account by the executive and board when determining what the overall size of the fixture list should be.
"These included general concern over the number of small field races and the support of the majority of respondents for maintaining the size of the fixture list.
"Meanwhile, consultation will continue on the allocation of BHA controlled fixtures and initiatives to address small field sizes, including a possible reduction in the number of total races run in the overall race programme, as proposed by BHA in the consultation document."
Tony Kelly, ARC managing director, said: "We welcome the continued support the BHA is showing for the development of the all-weather track at Newcastle.
"While we agree with the BHA's decision announced today to maintain the current size of the fixture list, we are unconvinced that there has been a full analysis of the financial impact a cut in race numbers would have on all within British Racing.
"ARC would like to work with the BHA on developing positive initiatives that can be used to address small field sizes, rather than see the focus remain on shrinking British racing.
"In 2010 there was a transparent and fair bidding process for the allocation of leasehold fixtures. It remains ARC's clear belief that this is the best method as it offers the most straightforward method of increasing prize money for horsemen and allowing racecourses to compete fairly.
"We look forward to continuing to engage directly, and via the RCA, with the BHA, and all British racing's stakeholders as this process continues."
=========================================== Lustrous in Curragh contention
Ribblesdale Stakes runner-up Lustrous is still under consideration for Saturday's Darley Irish Oaks.
Richard Hannon's filly chased home Bracelet at Royal Ascot, and had previously won a Group Three at York.
But with the likes of Investec Oaks first and second Taghrooda and Tarfasha still engaged in the Curragh Classic at the weekend, Lustrous has an alternative option in the Listed Newsells Park Stud Stakes at Newmarket.
Hannon's father, Richard snr, said: "They are still talking about the Irish Oaks for her, but that's looking a really hot race."
============================================== Canarias switched to Laffon-Parias
Spanish star Noozhoh Canarias is to leave trainer Enrique Leon and join leading French handler Carlos Laffon-Parias.
The three-year-old finished sixth in the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket at the start of May and ran another creditable race when occupying the same position in the July Cup.
Leon said: "I am good friends with the owner and he has decided to move Noozhoh to France as it will mean less travelling for the horse. I understand the decision and I still own a share in the horse. Everything is fine."
He added: " The horse has come back from Newmarket well. We were a bit disappointed, but the ground did not suit him."
========================================== Dettori set for American trip
Frankie Dettori is set to renew his association with Wesley Ward this weekend after the American trainer revealed he will use the Italian during the opening weekend of the season at Saratoga.
The Italian steered the Ward-trained Undrafted to finish fourth in the July Cup at Newmarket and the trainer hopes it will be the start of a good relationship.
He said: "Hopefully Frankie is going to come over for racing on Friday and will ride through until Monday."
Ward continued: " I should have eight or nine horses for him to ride over the weekend, including an unbeaten two-year-old called Bessie's Boy, who is down to run in the Sandford Stakes, which is quite a prestigious race.
"We'll have a few other stakes horses running, so it should be a good weekend."
=========================================== Spirit glee but Yuften loses second
Charm Spirit swooped late and fast to land the Group One Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly in which Yuften was disqualified from second place.
Fifth in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket back in May, Freddy Head's charge built on a recent course and distance success to edge out the William Haggas-trained frontrunner Yuften in the shadow of the post.
Richard Hannon's Irish Guineas second Shifting Power was well fancied but could finish no better than third for Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes. John Gosden's Jersey Stakes runner-up Muwaary was keen in the early stages and was never able to get in a blow in fifth under Paul Hanagan.
Yuften and Andrea Atzeni had appeared to come across the filly La Hoguette when first asserting in the straight, and the stewards took the decision to later demote him to fourth. As a result, Shifting Power was promoted to second with La Hoguette third.
Hannon said: "He ran his race. We will see where we go from here. He was only beaten half a length and there's no complaints. He could have done with them going a little quicker, but the ground was sticky."
Hanagan said of Muwaary: "He didn't settle, he's always been quite keen. He needs to learn to relax."
Haggas's wife Maureen had resigned herself early to Yuften's likely fate.
She said: "It is a shame that he couldn't keep second, but as soon as he came over I knew that this was going to happen. We are in France, with French rules. He is still a bit babyish."
Head said of the winner: "The plan was to travel closer to the pace, but he didn't get that position and Olivier (Peslier) decided to ride him in the pack. It was the right decision and he produced a really good turn of foot to come late. I'm delighted he was won his Group One.
"The Jacques le Marois would be the logical race, but at the same time he doesn't have to go there. I wouldn't run him over shorter, so he wouldn't run in the Maurice de Gheest and I could see him running over longer trips later in the year."
========================================= Hannon pair in Goodwood frame
Last week's impressive Newmarket winners Estidhkaar and Ivawood are still in contention for outings at Glorious Goodwood.
The pair lead the way among Richard Hannon's two-year-olds, with Ivawood maintaining his unbeaten record when making nearly all the running in the Portland Place Properties July Stakes last Thursday.
There was even better to come from Estidhkaar in Saturday's 666Bet Superlative Stakes when he followed up a Newbury maiden success by coming four and a half lengths clear of Aktabantay.
Group Two Railway Stakes winner Kool Kompany and Coventry Stakes seventh Dr No are others in contention for the Qipco Richmond Stakes at a meeting the stable has dominated in recent years.
Hannon's father, Richard snr, said: "Ivawood's got gears, he can quicken and we thought he'd win first time out. Then he jumped up and won a Group Two, so he's obviously a very good horse.
"He could go for the Richmond, although I don't know what the plan is.
"Estikhaar looked very good too, he could go for the Vintage Stakes, but everything has got to be discussed with Angus Gold (Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's racing manager).
"Kool Kompany will run in the Richmond, so will Dr No, and (Sandown Listed race winner) Beacon will run in the Molecomb."
========================================= Toronado tops Hannon Goodwood team
Toronado will spearhead yet another powerful Glorious Goodwood team for Richard Hannon in the Qipco Sussex Stakes as his stablemate Olympic Glory heads to France once again.
The Queen Anne Stakes winner collected his first Group One when getting the better of his old adversary Dawn Approach in last season's Sussex, and is set to clash with the leading three-year-old Kingman on July 30.
Lockinge winner Olympic Glory, last seen finishing fourth to Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix d'Ispahan, will attempt to go one place better than his narrow second to Moonlight Cloud in the 2013 Prix Jacques Le Marois.
There has been a change of order at the Hannon establishment in Wiltshire, which was bathed in sunshine on Monday morning. While son Richard is now in charge, Hannon snr was overseeing work duties with the licence holder away in France.
"Toronado will run in the Sussex, all being well. He's had his problems with his wind, but he's as good a horse as we've ever had here. He's definitely on a par with (2010 winner) Canford Cliffs," he said.
Kingman reversed placings from the 2000 Guineas with Hannon's Night Of Thunder when a resounding winner of the St James's Palace Stakes and John Gosden's colt is currently the odds-on favourite for the Sussex.
Hannon snr said: "I'm not sure (Kingman) will like the track. But if he goes there right and everything's well, he'll take a lot of beating.
"I'd like Toronado to stay in training next year, but the boss (owner Sheikh Joaan) has his stud in France and he might want him to go off there. It hasn't been discussed.
"Olympic Glory will follow the ground, he likes a bit of cut, and he'll probably go for the Jacques le Marois."
Aside from a stack of two-year-olds, Hannon has last year's leading juvenile Toormore in contention for Glorious Goodwood. The winner of the Craven Stakes must show a bit more following defeats in the Guineas and St James's Palace and is now set to drop back to seven furlongs.
"He ran a bit flat in the Guineas, I thought he was a bit dull in his coat, but he looks all right now. He'll run in the Lennox Stakes, he'll have no problems dropping back," said Hannon.
Night Of Thunder himself was most recently seen tackling a mile and a quarter for the first time in the Coral-Eclipse, but beat only one home.
"I thought he didn't get the trip, but it was a stupid race and those at the front got away with it," said Hannon.
"We went all over him after Sandown, he had a bone scan, his scope was good. The Prix du Moulin's what they're talking about now."
The five-day Glorious Goodwood meeting is now just two weeks away, and clerk of the course Seamus Buckley said: "If it was today, I'd be calling it good to firm. We'll just keep it going, but we're where we want to be at the moment."
============================================== Kazeem all set for Newbury return
Multiple Group One winner Al Kazeem is set to make his eagerly-anticipated return to action in the Doom Bar Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.
The six-year-old claimed the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot and Sandown's Coral-Eclipse during a stunning campaign in 2013, after which he was retired to the Royal Studs in Sandringham after being bought by the Queen.
======================================= Ward raring to go for York raid
American sprinter Undrafted will be prepared for a tilt at next month's Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York following a fine run in defeat in Saturday's July Cup.
Trainer Wesley Ward has become well-known for his juvenile raids on Royal Ascot in recent seasons and enjoyed a first visit to Newmarket's July Course as Undrafted stepped up to Group One level under Frankie Dettori.
I am told if the race was taking place this coming weekend we'd have been in better shape weather-wise, but that would probably be the case for a few other horses.
"All in all we are very proud of him, he ran a valiant race on ground he doesn't care for and it was a wonderful trip and an unbelievable experience for me and his owner.
"All being well he'll be coming back for the Nunthorpe and hopefully Mr Dettori will take the call again."
Undrafted is unlikely to be Ward's only runner on the Knavesmire next month as Windsor Castle Stakes winner Hootenanny is being primed for the Gimcrack Stakes.
"With Hootenanny coming over for the Gimcrack, hopefully we'll have a great couple of days at York. I can't wait," said Ward.
"Hootenanny is in just fantastic shape at the moment and I wouldn't expect the step up (to six furlongs) to be an issue."
======================================== McCoy still one short of Pipe tally
A hat-trick for Tom Scudamore stole the show from Tony McCoy at Newton Abbot as the champion jockey's wait to reach Martin Pipe's phenomenal record goes on.
McCoy was very much the headline act at the Devon circuit, requiring just one winner from a book of four rides to draw level with Pipe's total of 4,191 career winners, a personal target set by the incomparable jockey when he passed the 4,000 mark at Towcester last November.
He was widely expected to get the job done at the first time of asking as he partnered prolific mare and 30-100 favourite Supreme Present in the opening At The Races Virgin 534 Novices' Hurdle, but she could only manage a disappointing third as Scudamore struck aboard David Bridgwater's hurdling debutant Collodi (8-1).
The trainer revealed he was confident his five-year-old could cause an upset, saying: "If he did what he did at home - jump and gallop - he'd win. Thankfully he did. He's one of those horses that everything he does is a forward step. He's a nice little horse. He's better than a summer horse, but the boys have been waiting a long time for him to run."
McCoy was also out of luck on his three subsequent rides and with no National Hunt racing taking place in Britain on Tuesday, his next appearance in the saddle is likely to come at Uttoxeter on Wednesday.
Scudamore, meanwhile, went on to partner the David Pipe-trained Franklin Roosevelt (7-2) to victory in the newtonabbotracing.com Handicap Hurdle, before completing his treble aboard Bridgwater's Tempuran (7-2) in the concluding SIS Bringing Betting To Life Novices' Handicap Hurdle.
"He (Franklin Roosevelt) was back off his last winning chase mark and he goes on any sort of ground," Scudamore told At The Races.
"He's a bonny sort of horse, I think that's the fifth win I've had on him now, and in his grade he's tough and he's honest. He's obviously been very well placed to win five, but let's hope he can go in again sometime."

16:30 Tuesday 15th July Racing Tips - 15/07/2014
New Tarabela looks a likely winner at Beverley but I'd have Almagest as a firm 2nd favourite and so he gets the vote at 13/2. Cheekpieces go on but he is a course and distance winner in a decent time last year and he should have this run to suit. Waterclock, Stopped Out and Ebony Express will not hang about and he needs to be covered up off a strong pace. He didn't get that last time and 12 furlongs wasn't enough of a test on reappearance. This is much more feasible and hopefully the ground gets a fair bit of sun as it's a case of the quicker the better for him. Beverley 15.30 - Almagest 1pt e/w
A couple in the mile and a bit handicap look bigger than they should be. Border Bandit is a course and distance winner off 11lb lower last year and has begun this season in fine form. He is up 5lb from his last win and eased slightly from a modest effort at Carlisle last time. A little break may have done him good though. Pick of the prices is Ellaal at 18/1 who is 6lb higher than when scoring over course and distance back in May. His win at Carlisle came in a fast time so we know he's better than he showed at Pontefract when beaten 20 lengths at 7/2 favourite. This is tougher but I'm not sure the track suited last time. He likes it here and Paul Mulrennan gets on well with him. Beverley 16.00 - Ellaal 1pt e/w
Next up is a competitive handicap where plenty can be given a chance. Majestic Dream has gone off 20/1, 40/1 and 33/1 in his last 3 starts and 20's today would get him the vote. He hasn't won for nearly 4 years on turf though so 12's is tight. Real Tigress has eased a couple of pounds and is very nearly the selection. I'll probably end up chucking a few quid at her. Relight My Fire loves July and may not have done his winning off 74. Most interesting and at a decent price though is Kimbali for new trainer Declan Carroll. He has won twice now in a hood and looked comfortable over course and distance last time for the new yard. That was in selling company but it was a good time and easier ground should suit him even better. He has won off a higher mark in the past and I'm surprised he's as big as 12/1. Best bet on the card. Beverley 16.30 - Kimbali 1pt e/w
