View from connections ahead of the Princess Of Wales's boylesports.com Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday. Cavalryman bids to improve upon last year's second in the contest View from connections ahead of the Princess Of Wales's boylesports.com Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday. Excellent Result, who successfully graduated from handicap company to win at Group Two level in Dubai, heads a two-pronged attack by Godolphin on the Princess of Wales's boylesports.com Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday. The son of Shamardal had only won a maiden and a handicap before heading for the warmer climate of Dubai over the winter and he soon stepped up with victory in the Group Two City Of Gold at Meydan. Trainer Saeed bin Suroor is looking forward to getting Excellent Result back on the track and expects him to be all the better for it. "Excellent Result won well there (Dubai) over a mile and a half and a mile and six (furlongs)," said bin Suroor. "He disappointed in the Sheema Classic but has had a break and has been working well. His last piece of work he worked really nicely. "Physically he's done really well. I think he will need the race, but so far all is good and I'm happy with him." Excellent Result will be accompanied by the eight-year-old Cavalryman, who has been a Godolphin stalwart for several seasons. A four-times Group-race winner, he was third to Universal in this contest 12 months ago, but usually plies his trade over longer trips. "The best trip for him is a a mile and six plus. He's doing well, but he probably wants further in trip," said bin Suroor. "I think this race over a mile and a half is a good start for him. He is in good form and ready to run." Sir Michael Stoute has won this Group Two feature a record nine times and has two leading contenders in Arab Spring and Hillstar. Arab Spring is upped in class after destroying the opposition in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot, while Hillstar chased home stablemate Telescope at a respectable distance in the Hardwicke Stakes. In sixth place that day was Dandino, one of two runners from the Marco Botti stable. The Newmarket-based Italian reports both his runners to be in tip-top shape, though he wouldn't the ground too soft for Dandino. "They are both in good form. Dandino needed his recent run at Royal Ascot - he was a bit rusty and lack of fitness caught him out," he said. "But he did a nice piece of work at the weekend and I am confident that he retains all his ability. "We are monitoring the ground with him as, if the showers hit, he would not want it too soft. "We are happy with him, the trip is fine, and though it is a tough race he is definitely good enough. "Seismos ran a good race at Sandown considering that was a two miler and his best trip is probably either a mile and a half or a mile and three-quarters - he was a Group One winner at the shorter trip last August. "He was a bit light when he came to us from Dubai put he has regained all the condition that he lost. He has settled in nicely and is a straightforward horse who has been working well." Richard Hannon relies on Pether's Moon who was right behind Hillstar when the pair filled the places in the Hardwicke. "Pether's Moon was only a head behind Hillstar when they filled the places in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot, yet bookmakers now have us twice the price," the Marlborough trainer told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. "Our fellow is a real, solid horse who will love the ground." Pether's Moon is most consistent and his rider Richard Hughes is expecting another good performance. "He never runs a bad race. We're very pleased with him," he told At The Races

Andre Fabre (left) is set for a raid on Newmarket Trainer Andre Fabre sends the daughter of Invincible Spirit across the English Channel on the back of a debut victory in a seven-furlong maiden at Chantilly three weeks ago. I Am Beautiful flies the flag for Ireland as Aidan O'Brien goes for a second success in this Group Two contest after You'resothrilling in 2007. The Rip Van Winkle filly was beaten on her first two starts before springing a minor surprise in the Group Three Grangecon Stud Stakes at the Curragh recently. David Elsworth steps Arabian Queen up to six furlongs after the Windsor maiden winner was sixth in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot. The Richard Hannon stable look to Parsley, who ran Calypso Beat to half a length over the course in the distance in the Listed Empress Stakes. The Richard Fahey-trained Diamond Creek, winner of two of her three starts and Nick Littmoden's Tongue Twista complete the sextet. Albany Stakes winner Cursory Glance and Queen Mary placed horses Tiggy Wiggy and Newsletter are significant absentees.

Big two still in Sussex mix Another "Duel on the Downs" is still in prospect after Toronado and Kingman stood their ground among the 20 horses left in the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on July 30 following the latest scratchings' stage. Toronado landed the one-mile Group One last year and made a successful reappearance in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. The young pretender to Toronado's crown is Kingman, who backed up his Irish 2,000 Guineas triumph in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot where he gained his revenge on the Hannon-trained Night Of Thunder for his defeat in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. The Hannon stable have a strong hand with Greenham scorer Olympic Glory, Sky Lantern and Shifting Power also in contention. Champion Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien has six contenders going forward, including Queen Anne runner-up Verrazano. Further overseas interest is provided by German-trained Chopin and the South African entry Soft Falling Rain. Richard Fahey's Garswood, winner of the bet365 Lennox Stakes last summer, is among 44 entries for the seven-furlong Group Two on the opening day of the five-day meeting, July 29. Sir Michael Stoute has given Integral this option and the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes winner is set to line up in the Qipco Falmouth stakes at Newmarket on Friday. Other horses successful at Royal Ascot among the possibles are Jamie Osborne's Royal Hunt Cup victor Field Of Dream and Muteela, who took the Sandringham Handicap for Mark Johnston. Hannon has seven hopefuls at this stage, headed by last season's champion two-year-old Toormore. Handicaps are a big feature at Glorious Goodwood and the Betfred Mile on August 1 has attracted 83 entries with the weights headed by Chil The Kite, runner-up in the Hunt Cup last time. The six-furlong cavalry charge, the 32Red Cup (Stewards' Cup) on August 2, is likely to be as competitive as ever and among 144 sprinters hoping to get a run are last year's winner Rex Imperator, 2011 victor Hoof It, Intrinsic and Alben Star. ======================================= Fugue among Nassau contenders The Fugue, winner of the Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes in 2012, is among 29 entries for the fillies and mares Group One at Glorious Goodwood on August 2. Four times a winner at the top level, the John Gosden-trained five-year-old could bid to bounce back against her own sex after disappointing in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown. Gosden, who won the race 12 months ago with Winsili, has also entered this season's Investec Oaks heroine Taghrooda. Thistle Bird, the neck runner-up to Winsili in 2013, has been put in by trainer Roger Charlton. The six-year-old gained a deserved first Group One success last time out in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh on June 29. Richard Hannon's Sky Lantern had no luck in running when fifth last summer while Dank is an interesting possible from the Sir Michael Stoute stable. She landed the Grade One Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Santa Anita last year. No French raider has won the Nassau, but Alain de Royer-Dupre is hoping to change that statistic in 2014 with Narniyn. The four-year-old daughter of Dubawi, who was homebred by her owner the Aga Khan, notched up a sequence of four victories at around 10 furlongs, culminating with the Group Three La Coupe at Longchamp on June 12. Last time out, she stepped up in class and distance for the Group One Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and was fourth behind Spiritjim. "We are definitely considering going over to Goodwood with Narniyn," said Royer-Dupre. "I think this is the right race for her as it is the right place in the calendar before going on to Deauville for the Prix Jean Romanet. "I think her run at Saint-Cloud probably came too close to her win at Longchamp but there was not really another race to go for. She is also a better filly at 10 furlongs than at 12 furlongs." Most of Narniyn's victories have come on an easy surface but de Royer-Dupre is confident that better ground will be no problem for the filly. "She won a Listed race at Chantilly last year when the ground was good and it was not a problem for her at all. She may actually be a better filly on good ground," he said. Ireland's champion trainer Aidan O'Brien has made eight entries, including Pretty Polly runner-up Venus De Milo, Irish 1,000 Guineas scorer Marvellous and Bracelet, winner of the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot. There are 12 Irish-trained entries in all, with Epsom Oaks runner-up Tarfasha from Dermot Weld's stable, John Oxx's duo of My Titania and Stars So Bright plus Tattersalls Gold Cup third Euphrasia, trained by Joe Murphy, also engaged. There is a £17,000 supplementary entry stage on July 28. ================================================ Classy entry for Haydock showpiece Edward Lynam's top speedsters Slade Power and Sole Power are among 49 entries for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on September 6. The pair are set to clash in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on Saturday along with Due Diligence, Aljamaaheer and Music Master, who were second, third and fourth behind Slade Power in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. Sole Power lifted the King's Stand Stakes at the Royal meeting and Hot Streak, who was third in the five-furlong dash, has been given an entry. Lynam has also put in his Group-winning filly Viztoria. Gordon Lord Byron, impressive winner of the six-furlong showpiece in 2013 for Irish trainer Tom Hogan, could bid for a repeat. Others in a classy entry include last year's Prix de l'Abbaye hero Maarek, Wokingham winner Baccarat and Frankel's half-sister Joyeuse. ========================================= Panther on the prowl in France Brown Panther is set to go to France on Sunday in search of the second Group Two success of his career. Connections of the smart stayer intend to take the six-year-old entire to Longchamp for the Prix Maurice de Nieuil over a mile and three-quarters. Should all go well in Paris then Brown Panther could take up one of his engagements shortly afterwards on home soil. He holds entries in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes on July 26 and the Artemis Goodwood Cup at Glorious Goodwood the following Thursday in which he recorded his first Group Two triumph last summer. Trainer Tom Dascombe reports his stable star to be in top form and ready for a return to action following his fine effort in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot where he was fourth to Leading Light. "He's fresh and well. It looks a good opportunity, soft ground over a mile and six, so we thought we'd give it a go," said the Cheshire handler. "Then we've got two weeks to the King George and three weeks to the Goodwood Cup, so we've got plenty of time to go for one of those as well." ========================================= Celebrity among Cambridge sextet French raider High Celebrity is among a field of six declared for the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket on Friday. Trainer Andre Fabre sends the daughter of Invincible Spirit across the English Channel on the back of a debut victory in a seven-furlong maiden at Chantilly three weeks ago. ========================================== Powers excited by twin Cup assault Paddy Power is not making a call between his mother Sabena's two runners in Saturday's Darley July Cup. The bookmaking family will take both their Royal Ascot-winning sprinters to Newmarket at the weekend, with the younger Slade Power shorter in the market as he attained his first Group One win over six furlongs in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Veteran Sole Power, who carries the first colours, is a five-furlong specialist and retained his King's Stand title last month. Paddy Power said: "Slade Power is very straightforward and in great form. "Presuming that he gets there safe and sound, that straightforwardness will help as you can put him anywhere in the race and he is adaptable and the great thing is he goes on any ground. "Sole is a bit more tricky as the less rain there is, the better it is. But we're very lucky to be going there with two live chances and it's fingers crossed." Asked which of the two he prefers, he said: "The ideal result is definitely a dead-heat! "But the one-two either way around will do just fine and I will be doing all my usual reverse forecasts. "I honestly don't know which to opt for - but one thing is for sure, I will be roaring 'Come on Power!' during the race." John Gosden has warned Gregorian will only take his chance if the ground is soft. The five-year-old has yet to run over the big-race distance of six furlongs and has done all his winning from seven furlongs to an extended mile. His latest success came on the July Course in the Group Three Criterion Stakes over seven furlongs when heavy rain turned the going to soft. "He's happy over a stiff six, he's happy over seven and that's probably his best trip," the Newmarket trainer told Racing UK. "If we did get the ground we got for the Criterion then he would run. If we get normal summer ground, fast ground, he won't run and we'd wait. He's ground dependant. "Gerald Mosse said last year not to be frightened of sprinting with his horse when he rode him in France. "He's been a great old horse. He was unlucky in the French Guineas, he was knocked over in the French Derby. He's won his Group Twos and his Group Threes. If the heavens opened he would run." ======================================== Star trio set for Falmouth battle Sky Lantern will have to stop impressive Royal Ascot winners Rizeena and Integral if she is to go a place better in Friday's Qipco Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. The popular Richard Hannon-trained grey lost out by a neck 12 months ago when beaten in a rough and controversial renewal by Elusive Kate but went on to land the Sun Chariot Stakes. Sky Lantern is believed to have needed her comeback outing, when fifth behind Integral in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes, but the winner is in also in the seven-strong line-up as well as third-placed Purr Along. "Her form's better than that," jockey Richard Hughes told At The Races. "She was a little bit big, she'll come on for the run, but she'll have to." Clive Brittain's Rizeena wiped away her disappointing performance in the 1000 Guineas by taking the Coronation Stakes at the Royal meeting but is still to show her best on home soil. With previous riders Hughes, Ryan Moore and James Doyle all unavailable, Rizeena will be partnered by leading French jockey Olivier Peslier for the first time. Three other fillies are in the Group One field, with Certify aiming to return to her level in Dubai after a poor Royal Ascot run. Peace Burg, only seventh in the Duke Of Cambridge, went on to take fifth in the Pretty Polly Stakes, while Charlie Hills' smart two-year-old Kiyoshi must do better than her comeback effort behind Rizeena in Berkshire. ======================================== Given hopeful Odeon can bounce back James Given is prepared to write off Odeon's most recent effort at Royal Ascot as he goes into an early trial for the Ladbrokes St Leger at Newmarket on Thursday. The full-brother to the smart Kite Wood must prevent John Gosden's domination of the Bahrain Trophy, with the trainer on a four-timer in the race after the successes of Feel Like Dancing, Shantaram and Leger winner Masked Marvel. Like the first two names, Gosden's Doncaster maiden winner Forever Now is owned and bred by Lady Bamford. Odeon, who won at Redcar in April, went on to post a creditable fourth behind the top-class The Grey Gatsby in the Dante Stakes but weakened to seventh after leading in last month's King Edward VII Stakes. "He was below par at Ascot, he sweated up a lot when we saddled him, it was running off his belly," said Given. "It reminded me of (Derby winner) Benny The Dip how he sweated. Obviously it's quite an occasion at Ascot, with the noise and the atmosphere, and he just didn't perform. "We were disappointed, especially as his Dante form with Bunker was turned around quite a long way. "We've put a hood on him, which should hopefully help him. His brother was second in the Leger, so that's a race everyone thinks about." Richard Hannon's Bunker was eventually fifth behind the Gosden-trained Eagle Top in the King Edward VII while the stable have another leading contender in the race through Windshear. The Hurricane Run colt bumped into a very smart individual in Cannock Chase when contesting the London Gold Cup at Newbury but ran another fine race at Royal Ascot when second in the King George V Stakes. "Bunker is rated 4lb superior to Windshear, and he has been mixing it with the best, having run in the Dante and the King Edward VII," the trainer told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. "We think stepping up again in trip might suits him, but Windshear has looked a smart staying handicapper and ran a cracker behind Elite Army in the King George V at Royal Ascot. The winner is only a 10-1 chance for the St Leger, so we are entitled to take our chance here." There is a Royal Ascot hero in the line-up, Mark Johnston's Queen's Vase winner Hartnell, while Vent De Force and The Corsican have looked progressive young stayers. Ralph Beckett's Honor Bound will be looking to leave behind a weak effort in the Investec Oaks, having picked up the trial at Lingfield. Jockey Jim Crowley has been booked, and he told At The Races: "When she came into the Oaks Trial she wasn't really that fancied on her homework. "Obviously she won, went to Epsom and had a hood on for the first time because she gets het up in the preliminaries. She never picked up the bit or ever got into it. "The step up in trip should suit, and the track should be fine. A few of the horses were going through a bit of a dip at the time but they're running well at the moment, fingers crossed. "She's really well-bred, she's a half-sister to Treasure Beach who won the Irish Derby. She's not very big or robust but she's very tough and hard. "With fillies like that, you never know if they'll keep improving, but unless you try, you don't find out." ====================================== Hannon team chase another July win Richard Hannon has two strong chances to uphold a strong family tradition in Thursday's Portland Place Properties July Stakes at Newmarket. The trainer's father Richard snr won three of the last four runnings of the juvenile Group Two event with Libranno, Alhebayeb and Anjaal, and stable jockey Richard Hughes has picked Ivawood. A son of Zebedee, Ivawood was a hot favourite for his debut at Sandown last month and landed the odds in highly encouraging fashion. Dougal, unsurprisingly another son of Zebedee with owner Julie Wood aiming to give many of her more promising two-year-olds The Magic Roundabout-themed names, lends support after showing solid early-season form. "The July Stakes has been a lucky race for us, and we have two decent colts going there this year in Ivawood and Dougal," the trainer told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. "We have always been excited about Ivawood, and it was no surprise when he won so impressively first time out at Sandown. "He quickened up like an above-average performer, and he looked as if he already wanted this sixth furlong, so, hopefully, he'll take the step up in class in his stride. "Dougal is also taking a big jump in grade, but we were planning to run him in the Coventry until he scoped badly the week before the race, and the fact that Justice Good, whom he dead-heated with at Newmarket, finished fourth in the Royal Ascot race was very encouraging." Aidan O'Brien's The Great War was only fifth as odds-on favourite for the Norfolk Stakes, behind the re-opposing runner-up Mind Of Madness. Coventry Stakes form is represented by third-placed Jungle Cat and Angelic Lord, who was sixth, while William Haggas' Mubtaghaa was third to the American speedball Hootenanny in the Windsor Castle Stakes on the same afternoon. One of the most interesting runners in the field is Roger Varian's Belardo, a Lope De Vega colt who appeared to show considerable promise in winning his debut at Yarmouth a fortnight ago. Ted Voute, racing manager for owner Prince Faisal, said: "It's a massive step up, but we're guided by Roger. "I think Roger's mind was on the Eclipse over the weekend but I spoke to him at the start of the week and he said he'd come out of Yarmouth well, he'd work him and look at a couple of options. "He rang up and said 'let's run him at Newmarket'. I don't think he'd be running here if he didn't have a chance and when I saw the horse, I thought he looked like he'd come on a bit for the run. We go there hopeful." Another trainer to be double-handed is Brian Meehan, with Ustinov looking the first string ahead of Leicester maiden winner Lightning Stride. The trainer reported on "Ustinov has already shown himself to be a high quality juvenile, following a very promising debut effort in a good race at Haydock with an emphatic success over a subsequent winner at Nottingham. "Showed a smart turn of foot from well off the pace to win that day and both his subsequent work and overall form suggests he can more than hold his own at this high level. "Lightning Stride won on his second start at Leicester and has been working well. Will be suited by the stiff six furlongs, and should appreciate the return to turf after his trip to Kempton last time." ======================================== Spring team full of the joys Arab Spring bids to go up an important rung on the ladder when he runs in the Princess of Wales's boylesports.com Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday. The lightly-raced four-year-old is justifying the patient approach of his trainer Sir Michael Stoute and has earned the right to go for Group Two honours with an impressive victory at Royal Ascot. That came in the Duke if Edinburgh Handicap in which he sailed away from the opposition to score by two lengths from Salutation. Connections are optimistic the colt will prove up to the mark over this mile and a half on the July Course before hopefully going on to even greater things with the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe possible targets later in the year. "It's a major step up from handicaps, but hopefully he'll be good enough," said Peter Reynolds, manager of owners Ballymacoll Stud. "I hope the ground doesn't change too much. "He's a lovely horse, he has a lovely character. He's very popular in the yard and I hope he does the business. "We last won it a couple of years ago with Fiorente and Sir Michael also has Hillstar in as well this time. "We're looking forward to it. " Stoute's other runner Hillstar is a regular at this level and chased home stablemate Telescope at a respectable distance in the Hardwicke Stakes at the Royal meeting and gives the trainer strong claims of winning this race for a 10th time. In sixth place that day was Dandino, one of two runners from the Marco Botti stable along with Seismos. "Seismos ran a good race at Sandown considering that was a two-miler and his best trip is probably either a mile and a half or a mile and three-quarters - he was a Group One winner at the shorter trip last August. "He was a bit light when he came to us from Dubai but he has regained all the condition that he lost. He has settled in nicely and is a straightforward horse who has been working well." Richard Hannon relies on Pether's Moon who was right behind Hillstar in third in the Hardwicke. "Pether's Moon was only a head behind Hillstar when they filled the places in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot, yet bookmakers now have us twice the price," the Marlborough trainer told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. Excellent Result, who successfully graduated from handicap company to win at Group Two level in Dubai, heads a two-pronged attack by Godolphin The son of Shamardal had only won a maiden and a handicap before going to Dubai over the winter and he soon stepped up with victory in the City Of Gold at Meydan. Trainer Saeed bin Suroor is looking forward to getting Excellent Result back on the track and expects him to be all the better for it. "Excellent Result won well in a Listed and a Group Two over a mile and a half and a mile and six," said Bin Suroor. "He disappointed in the Sheema Classic but has had a break and has been working well. In his last piece of work he worked really nicely. "Physically he's done really well. I think he will need the race, but so far all is good and I'm happy with him." Excellent Result will be accompanied by the eight-year-old Cavalryman, who has been a Godolphin stalwart for several seasons. A four-times Group-race winner, he was third to Universal in this contest 12 months ago. However, he usually runs over further. "The best trip for him is one-mile-six plus. He's doing well, but he probably wants further in trip," said Bin Suroor. "I think this race over a mile and a half is a good start for him. He is in good form and ready to run."

19:15 Thursday 10th July Racing Tips - 10/07/2014
One from a tricky little card at Epsom this evening is Mindyourownbusiness for David Simcock. He is still unexposed and worth a go over a little further having made his last 3 starts at a mile. The yard think plenty of him and a good test at this trip should suit. He was impressive on penultimate start and a 5lb rise should be within him on just his 5th run. The Britannia last time was a non race for him given he raced prominently far side but this is much more feasible. There's a few that like to go forward which may scupper the likeable Sir Guy Porteous' chances, who would be a big danger if allowed to dominate. The selection should be vying for favouritism for me so 5/1 looks worth taking and Jim Crowley back on, who has won on him before, is a big plus. Epsom 19.15 - Mindyourownbusiness 2pt win
John Gosden wins the Bahrain Trophy for fun and I'd have the unexposed Forever Now as favourite this afternoon. He has been placing his unexposed 3 year olds this year in Group company and they keep winning. His strength in depth is scary. 10/3 isn't to go mad with but this boy will get the trip and is completely unexposed. The ground is the big plus, though if we get rain have a look at Vent De Force and Windshear. The latter is very likeable but a touch vulnerable to the unexposed Gosden runner. He will handle the step up in class and will stay but I do think he wants a little cut. I don't think Hartnell is good enough to beat all of these, though will likely make the frame. It's worth noting that this race doesn't generally do surprises. Newmarket 13.40 - Forever Now 2pt win
Nothing really grabs me in the feature handicap but Ivawood looks a worthy favourite for the July Stakes. The yard have a top record in recent years in the race and this son of Zebedee looks an absolute beast. He won on debut in a good time over 5 and should relish the step up to 6. His sire gives him the speed but there's plenty of stamina on his dam side and that will come in useful given the pace on. The only niggle is his draw as the pace is high but class should prevail and I'm surprised he's a s big as 3/1. Newmarket 14:10 - Ivawood 2pt win

A DRY night has left the going as good to firm for the start of Newmarket's July festival, though light rain has hit the track this morning.
Speaking just after 8am, clerk of the course Michael Prosser said: "It has been raining for the last 20 minutes, but what it has accumulated is probably less than a millimetre."
Prosser had earlier reported a windy morning in Newmarket, with uncertainty surrounding how much rainfall could arrive at the course.
He added: "We were originally looking at 5-6mm, largely falling before racing, but it seems to have been delayed and could even arrive after racing now. We'll have to wait and see what happens." ======================================= Tweets Latest from York Assistant clerk of the course Anthea Morshead (@anthealmorshead) tweeted: "Going at York good to firm after dry, warm day Wednesday. Met office forecast now mainly dry and warm, but risk of thundery showers remains each day." 1 hour ago ===========================================

2.30, second race
The Starter reported that RISE TO POWER, trained by Kevin Ryan, was unruly in the stalls and withdrawn. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and he was informed that the colt could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
4.50, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final half furlong . Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, QUEST FOR MORE (IRE), ridden by Pat Dobbs, had interfered with SAVE THE BEES, placed third, ridden by Luke Leadbitter. They found the interference was accidental.
The Stewards noted that MR GALLIVANTER (IRE), placed second, had interfered with DEEPSAND (IRE), unplaced, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved MR GALLIVANTER (IRE)’s placing.
5.25, seventh race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, HEAD SPACE (IRE), ridden by James Sullivan, had interfered with EMJAYEM, placed fourth, ridden by Graham Gibbons, which in turn interfered with MOORHOUSE LAD, unplaced, ridden by Paul Mulrennan. The Stewards found Sullivan in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he failed to take sufficient steps to prevent his horse drifting left, thereby causing interference. They suspended him for 3 days as follows: Thursday 24, Friday 25 and Sunday 27 July 2014.
The Stewards noted that BRONZE BEAU, unplaced, had interfered with MOORHOUSE LAD, unplaced, approximately one furlong out but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that interference took place between LIBERTY JACK (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Pat Cosgrave, ANGELIC UPSTART (IRE), placed third, ridden by Oisin Murphy and HARRY BOSCH, unplaced, ridden by Kieren Fallon. They found the interference was accidental.
7.50, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that BARWICK, placed second, ridden by Ted Durcan, had interfered with MISTER FIZZ, unplaced, ridden by Daniel Cremin. They found the interference was accidental.
The Stewards further enquired into why Daniel Cremin appeared to drop his hands shortly before the winning post. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race they noted his explanation that he was concerned about clipping the heels of the horse in front.
8.20, fifth race
The Stewards noted that interference took place between TALL SHIP (IRE), placed second, and NEW COLOURS, placed third, approaching the line but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

Bath, 10 July 2014
HERBALIST (GB), trained by Sean Curran, failed a stalls test within 7 days of the Starter’s report from Nottingham on 5 July 2014. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Schedule (C)5.3.3 and fined him £650.
6.00, first race
The Stewards noted that OUTBID, unplaced, had interfered with BIRDIE QUEEN, placed second, which interfered with ARCH WALKER (IRE), unplaced, which then interfered with JACK BARKER, unplaced, approaching the furlong marker, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
6.30, second race

Views from connections ahead of Friday's Qipco Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket, featuring Ascot winner Integral. Intergral (far left): Had some of Friday's opponents behind when winning at Ascot Integral bids to add that all-important Grade One success to her CV when she renews rivalry with some old adversaries in the Qipco Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Friday. The four-year-old, owned and bred by Cheveley Park Stud, won at Listed and Group Three level last season and notched a Group Two triumph in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot. Integral had four of her Falmouth opponents behind her that day - Purr Along (third), Sky Lantern (fifth), Irish raider Peace Burg (seventh) and Certify (12th). The Sir Michael Stoute-trained filly was taking her revenge on Sky Lantern for a length defeat in the Sun Chariot Stakes on Newmarket's Rowley Mile course last September. "She came out her race at Ascot very well. She looks to have done well physically," said Cheveley Park's managing director Chris Richardson. "Obviously this is a big step up and she's taking on the likes of Sky Lantern at level weights. "That filly will probably have improved and hopefully ours has too a little bit. We're happy enough and I wouldn't want to swap her for anything else in the race." New customers: Free 30 pounds matched bet! Sky Lantern lost out in a highly-controversial finish with Elusive Kate 12 months ago and bids to put the record straight on the back of a satisfactory appearance at Royal Ascot. She was only fifth to Integral, but is 5lb better off and Sky Lantern's trainer Richard Hannon reports her to have come on in leaps and bounds for that run. "Sky Lantern is already a four-time Group One winner, so owes us nothing, but we think there could be more to come," he told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. "We were not surprised she did not win at Royal Ascot as she is built like a colt and, as with last year, she was always going to need her first run. "She went there weighing almost 500kg, but the race did her a power of good, and she has looked more like her old self in the last couple of weeks and was around 480kg when we put her on the scales the other morning. "Integral is a very good filly, but we enjoy a 5lb pull and we hope she might be able to reverse the Duke of Cambridge form. She will need to improve, but we think she has." Purr Along was a fine third, beaten four lengths, in that Group Two and her trainer Johnny Murtagh believes she can get closer to Intergral. "We were pleased with her at Ascot. She came out of the race good," said the County Kildare handler. "She has a few lengths to make up on Integral and we're hoping we can get near her this time." Certify was well-beaten in that Royal Ascot race which had Charlie Appleby shaking his head. However, the Godolphin trainer is hoping a return to the track where she won three times as a two-year-old, including a verdict over Sky Lantern, could bring out a revival in her fortunes. "I was disappointed with Certify's run at Royal Ascot," Appleby told www.godolphin.com. "We were happy with her preparation for that race and we have no excuses for her. "She has come out of that race well and we felt that these race conditions suited her - she has a good record at Newmarket and likes racing against a small field." Rizeena, one of two members of the younger generation of fillies in the line-up along with Kiyoshi, bounced back to her best with victory in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot won in 2013 by Sky Lantern. Connections snapped up Olivier Peslier to take the mount as Ryan Moore, who rode her that day, has been claimed for Integral. "Olivier Peslier is as good a jockey as there is, I rate him very highly," said trainer Clive Brittain. "Rizeena is in very good form and I am looking forward to Friday. She has done very well since Ascot and her work has been good. "She has never won at Newmarket before but she has run very well there in defeat. I don't think the undulating course will be a problem - she works well on the Limekilns and the Al Bahathri and has never checked her stride." Rain arrived at Newmarket on Thursday, and Brittain said: "She has won on softish ground and she's a big strong filly who I'm sure will be up to taking on older horses for the first time - she took on the colts last year."

View from connections ahead of Friday's Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket. Andre Fabre: On learning curve with High Celebrity Andre Fabre expects to find out just how good High Celebrity is when she runs in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket on Friday. All challengers sent over by the French maestro are worth a second look and his recent record at Newmarket is outstanding, with Miss France landing the 1000 Guineas back in May while Esoterique also scored at that meeting. High Celebrity made a successful debut at Chantilly last month and Fabre is keen to see how she fares in the Qipco-sponsored race, which is better known as the Cherry Hinton. "I was not surprised when High Celebrity won very impressively at Chantilly as she works very well in the morning," he said. "Friday will provide a good opportunity to assess her ability as I have not got much to compare her with at home. "I think that she is a Group One filly but she has yet to prove it. The Prix Morny and the Cheveley Park Stakes are possible future targets for her if she proves herself on Friday." Richard Hannon's father won this in 2010 with Memory and the yard is represented by Parsley this year. She is more experienced and will be having her fourth start in the Group Two. "She won easily at Goodwood and then improved again when runner-up in the Listed Empress Stakes over this course, where she had some decent fillies behind her. This is another step up in class, but we think she is ready for it," said Hannon on www.richardhannonracing.co.uk.

Educate tops Cup contenders A maximum field of 20 has been declared for Saturday's 55th John Smith's Cup at York with Hi There and Salutation the two reserves. If there are any non-runners before 9am on Friday, Hi There and Salutation may still get to take their chances. ====================================== No grounds for Joyeuse concern Lady Cecil is not too concerned about the ability of Joyeuse to handle quicker ground at York in Friday's Totepool Summer Stakes. Frankel's half-sister has two Listed wins to her name and has been placed in three Group Threes. She was odds-on for the Ballyogan Stakes at Leopardstown last time out after an easy win at Haydock in soft ground but had to settle for second. Lady Cecil said: "Joyeuse has run really well on both of her starts at six furlongs this season. We were thrilled with her victory at Haydock and it was also a good performance at Leopardstown, where I feel she didn't quite get the run of the race." The trainer continued: "You'd have to consider her best run to have been at Haydock where she travelled into the race smoothly before picking up well. She has got an excellent turn of foot, possessing real speed. "We've been pleased with her build-up to Friday's race and her work has been very solid. Ground-wise, she has shown that she enjoys getting her toe in, but a quicker surface does not inconvenience her, so we don't foresee any problems on that front. "As a half-sister to Frankel, she has always attracted plenty of interest and we are looking forward to running her at York. "Of course, the Knavesmire was where Frankel gave one of his most memorable performances. I shall never forget the exhilarating way in which he won the Juddmonte International. Henry (Cecil) loved York and I know Frankel's win that day meant a huge amount to him." Three-year-olds have a decent record against their elders in this Group Three with Serious Attitude, Rose Blossom and Ladies Are Forever winning three in a row between 2009-2011. Ladies Are Forever also won it last year at five and runs again for Geoff Oldroyd. Peter Schiergen brings Emerald Star back to Britain from Germany after her win at Lingfield, while there is a French challenger in Ice Love. Artistic Jewel, Body And Soul, Al Thakhira and the improving Willbeme are also among the 15 runners. ==================================== Power pair top July field A field of 16 will go to post for Saturday's Darley July Cup at Newmarket, with the Eddie Lynam-trained duo of Sole Power and Slade Power heading the list of contenders. The two stablemates were both successful at Royal Ascot, with Sole Power scoring over five furlongs in the King's Stand Stakes, while Slade Power notched up a first Group One win over a furlong further in the Diamond Jubilee. They form part of a strong Irish team, with Aidan O'Brien running Diamond Jubilee runner-up Due Diligence, the once-raced Cougar Mountain and Fountain of Youth. Another exciting overseas contender is the Spanish raider Noozhoh Canarias, who showed tremendous speed when sixth in the 2000 Guineas on the Rowley Mile. American trainer Wesley Ward, who has made his name in Europe by plundering juvenile races at the Royal meeting, runs Undrafted. He will be ridden by Frankie Dettori and the pair enjoyed a spin at the track on Thursday morning. Heading the home defence is Roger Varian's Aljamaaheer, just behind Due Diligence at Ascot. The likes of Rex Imperator, Moviesta, Hot Streak, Justice Day and Astaire have all been declared, with Neil Callan on the latter after his extended stay in Hong Kong ended. ================================== Celebrity aiming to star Andre Fabre expects to find out just how good High Celebrity is when she runs in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket on Friday. All challengers sent over by the French maestro are worth a second look and his recent record at Newmarket is outstanding, with Miss France landing the 1000 Guineas back in May, while Esoterique also scored at that meeting. This is another step up in class, but we think she is ready for it," said Hannon on www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. David Elsworth's Arabian Queen was beaten just over two lengths in the Queen Mary and steps up a furlong this time. She is the first foal of the former Elsworth-trained mare Barshiba who won the Lancashire Oaks twice. "She was drawn on the wrong side in the Queen Mary, she was in one of 22 and the placed horses were all on the other side. That was a big disadvantage yet she was still only beaten a couple of lengths," said Elsworth. "It's nice to get black type with any filly, but it would be particularly nice with her given she's out of Barshiba. Realistically we'd be hoping she'd be a Guineas filly. She should stay, but then Barshiba wasn't slow. I didn't start running her over a mile and a half until she was five. She was a very good, fast filly. "This one is by Dubawi who was third in a Derby so it's a good sign that she's even competing with the best over these trips." Aidan O'Brien runs I Am Beautiful, a Group Three winner at the Curragh, Richard Fahey is represented by Diamond Creek and Nick Littmoden's maiden Tongue Twista completes the field. ================================= Integral key to Falmouth Integral bids to add that all-important Group One success to her CV when she renews rivalry with some old adversaries in the Qipco Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Friday. His career appeared to be going nowhere at seven furlongs earlier in the season but he was second over nine furlongs at Sandown and won last time out over a mile and a quarter. Mark Johnston won this race with Maputo last year and while there did not appear as much strength in depth to this renewal, he had some decent performers a long way behind. It was a double on the day for Joe Fanning and Johnston, who had earlier taken the Bahrain Trophy with St Leger-bound Hartnell. The 13-2 chance took over two furlongs out and never looked like being caught, pulling five lengths clear of Ventura Quest. Fanning said: "They went a nice gallop in front and it suited him down to the ground, he's won well. The step up in trip suited him well as he showed in his last run at Windsor where he won quite nice. He's taking his racing very well." Johnston could not hide his delight at another winner. "We're singing in the rain," he said. "I was worried about the ground but my wife (Deirdre) had walked it and she assured me it would be fine. Joe's a very good judge of pace, and that's what won it. I hadn't really thought further than this race." Ryan Moore was seen at his best as he drove Aidan O'Brien's Table Rock to win the Hastings Direct Sir Henry Cecil Stakes right on the line from Pretzel. Pretzel, having his first run for John Gosden since being switched from Roger Varian, appeared to have arrived at the head of affairs with a winning run well over a furlong out under William Buick. The 2-1 favourite firstly fended off Zarwaan, then Parbold folded but Table Rock, now the winner of four of his last five starts, arrived latest of all. As they flashed past the post together it appeared Pretzel had held on but Table Rock quickly got the verdict by a nose at 4-1. Connections of Table Rock were delighted with the performance though they had been worried the ground might have gone against their horse. Coolmore's UK representative Kevin Buckley said: "He got a bit further back than he wanted, but he responded well to Ryan. He's raced on yielding at the Curragh, but there's been a lot of rain and the ground was a concern." East Coast Lady (12-1) provided a victory for common sense in the Peter Silvester Memorial EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes. Drawn near the far rail, Freddie Tylicki made a bee-line for that part of the track and she never saw another rival. Most of the other jockeys raced down the centre, apart from Ryan Moore who aimed for the other rail and he chased home the impressive winner on Richard Fahey's filly Lacing, albeit beaten three and a half lengths. The 50-1 chance Jillanar was third. East Coast Lady is a rare juvenile in training with William Stone at his West Wickham yard and she had been a fine third behind John Gosden's Exceedingly, but she was back in the ruck in the middle of the track this time. Stone said: "We've had plenty of placed horses here but it's lovely to have a winner. I've always liked this filly but I was worried about the soft ground. The way she has done that on her own today has really impressed me. She's had two quick races so I'd imagine she'll have a bit of a break now." Ryan Moore was seen at his best as he drove Aidan O'Brien's Table Rock to win the Hastings Direct Sir Henry Cecil Stakes right on the line from Pretzel. Pretzel, having his first run for John Gosden since being switched from Roger Varian, appeared to have arrived at the head of affairs with a winning run well over a furlong out under William Buick. Connections of Table Rock were delighted with the performance though they had been worried the ground might have gone against their horse. Coolmore's UK representative Kevin Buckley said: "He got a bit further back than he wanted, but he responded well to Ryan. He's raced on yielding at the Curragh, but there's been a lot of rain and the ground was a concern." ======================================== Determined Hartnell puts Leger case Mark Johnston's Hartnell followed up his win in the Queen's Vase with an all-the-way success in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket. Stepping back in trip, Joe Fanning was able to dictate his own pace at the head of affairs and never really looked like being hauled back. Sent off at 9-4, his main market rivals were John Gosden's Forever Now and Richard Hannon's Windshear but the latter was one of the first in trouble before running on again to claim second. Quotes were soon on offer for the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on September 13. Fanning said: "He's won well today, he kept straight and at the two-pole I thought it would take a good one to get by me. He quickened up well. He gave me a better feel today than at Ascot. There was a bit more juice in the ground - when he ran last year in France it was heavy ground." Johnston said: "Joe said he gave him a much better feel there than he did at Ascot. He wonders a little bit now whether the two miles there was stretching him a little bit. "He burst clear so comfortably at Ascot and said today that two down he couldn't see anything getting past him. He had plenty left in the tank, he never flicked his stick at all and the horse went as straight as a gun barrel. "That's the horse we thought we had. We were very bullish in the spring when he seemed to be going better than Somewhat (who was placed in the Coral-Eclipse). Then both of them did not really live up to expectations in their first couple of runs, but that's him coming good now. "The St Leger has got to be the target. We were thinking of that even at the beginning of the year. What we do between now and then, we'll have to go home and have a think about. Ground may be an issue as he has run his best races with some cut in the ground, so maybe it was a bit too fast for him at Lingfield and at Ascot perhaps. The Leger has to be the number one target. "I've thought since last year that this was a really classy horse, but lots of classy horses win the Queen's Vase. I'm not going to belittle the Queen's Vase." Hannon is also thinking of Doncaster for the runner-up. He said: "He ran a good race and stays the trip well, but I think the race at Ascot (second to Elite Army in the King George V Stakes) left its mark a bit. He'll have a break now. We can still look at the Leger later on, there's no reason why not." Third was Forever Now, and Gosden said: "He didn't like the ground, which has come loose on top. It has probably done his handicap mark no good but he has run a lovely race as this was a good edition of it and the first two horses are smart horses." ====================================== Ivawood impresses at Newmarket Richard Hannon's Ivawood confirmed the huge promise of his debut win by making just about all the running in the Portland Place Properties July Stakes at Newmarket. Sent off the 3-1 favourite after an impressive success at Sandown, the imposing juvenile looked all class and beat several two-year-olds who had run well at Royal Ascot. One of those, the Mark Johnston-trained Jungle Cat, was third in the Coventry Stakes and he stuck to his task well but was some two and three-quarter lengths behind the winner. Charlie Hills will be delighted with the performance of his maiden winner Muhaarar, who ran on for third, just in front of Belardo. Winning rider Richard Hughes said: "I had a funny old draw (one) so I thought I'd let him bowl along and see how good he is and he was very impressive. I was always going easy, so I was wondering how good the others were but he covers an awful lot of ground and quickened really well. "It was the first time in his life he'd been up front. There was no messing and he got up the hill really well. He was the last one to pull up, so that's a good sign. He's got a quiet nature which will stand him in good stead." Hannon said: "He's a very good-looking horse and that's why at the sales he made so much money and Zebedee has made a good start to his career (as a sire). "It's great and he looks a proper horse, probably as exciting a two-year-old as we have right now. Physically he is like a three-year-old and, hopefully, there's a lot more to come. I think he's our stand-out two-year-old, and probably as good a two-year-old as anyone's seen this season. "He looks a Guineas horse all over to me, so we'll bear that in mind. We'll be looking at the Middle Park, and maybe the Gimcrack depending on how he comes out of this." Johnston is keen to send Jungle Cat to Glorious Goodwood after his solid effort. "The winner won well, but it was a good run. I think we can look at the Richmond Stakes now as we know he likes Goodwood," said the Middleham trainer. Hills said of Muhaarar: "I'm very pleased. We'll probably look at seven furlongs in future but he has plenty of speed for six. He won on heavy ground on his debut, so any ease in the ground was in his favour. "Ideally we would have got a run into him between his first run (in May) and now. We wanted to go to Royal Ascot, but he had a bout of ringworm. We'll probably go to Goodwood for the Richmond Stakes now." ======================================= De Sousa delights in Cavalry charge Silvestre de Sousa found himself back in the limelight in the Godolphin blue as he gave Cavalryman a brilliant front-running ride to win the Princess of Wales's boylesports.com Stakes at Newmarket. De Sousa has been marginalised in recent weeks but showed yet again that his talent still burns brightly. The race was supposed to be a stepping stone for Sir Michael Stoute's Arab Spring to confirm himself on the big stage after his Royal Ascot handicap success, but he was ultimately disappointing back in fourth. It was Arab Spring's stablemate Hillstar who was the biggest threat after Frankie Dettori made a positive move with fully half a mile to go. While he was given every chance, he could not get past the veteran eight-year-old Cavalryman, who finished third behind Sea The Stars in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe of 2009. Pether's Moon ran another game race back in third. Trainer Saeed bin Suroor's apparent first string Excellent Result was well beaten under Kieren Fallon. It was Cavaryman's first run since he just failed to win the Dubai Gold Cup on World Cup night. De Sousa said of the 9-1 winner, who prevailed by a neck: "It wasn't the plan to make the running, but I had no choice and it was quite enjoyable for him to be in front, so I just let him do the work. He's a horse for a mile and six and two miles, so I was happy with the position I was in. "He's very tough and genuine. He has been unlucky, but he's come back. I'm just delighted for him to come here and get his head in front." Bin Suroor said: "He always runs well fresh, as he showed in Dubai. Silvestre knows the horse, and he didn't fight him early on. His best trip is a mile and six, but he goes on every ground and he has won over further, and won a Group One in France. "His next race will be the Goodwood Cup, and we'll keep our options open for going back for another try at the Melbourne Cup." Dettori was delighted with Hillstar's effort in second place, saying: " They went no pace, but he ran a super race." Stoute said of Hillstar: "I am delighted with Hillstar as he has run a big race. He is so consistent. I think he just needed a bit more pace in the race. As to where he goes next it is too early to say." Richard Hannon is hopeful Pether's Moon could get even further. He said: " Pether's Moon has run very well. He has good constitution and is very strong. I think he was OK on the ground. He ran on nicely over the mile and a half and he gives the impression that he will stay further."

After a fantastic winning ride on Table Rock on Thursday, it's another busy day at HQ for Ryan Moore with seven rides booked in. Here are the Betfair ambassador's exclusive thoughts on each...
13:40 Newmarket - Provenance
Like Saturday's Sandown winner Royal Seal, we are trying her in a hood for the first time, as she can get a bit revved up. A few people got pretty excited about her after an impressive Kempton win on her debut and I supposed they probably had a right to, given the style of that victory and the pedigree, her being a half-sister to Integral among others. She was undeniably disappointing when only third of five at Sandown last time, but the ground became a little too soft for her. That didn't suit as she is a good-moving filly, and she just didn't get home in the ground, so she would much prefer a decent surface today. On her breeding and that debut win, you would have to think that she is on a winning mark off 84 and a strongly-run 7f should suit, but she is still a work in progress and she may just find a bigger-field handicap at this stage a little too daunting for her, and there are some improving sorts in here, including our Bragging. She has the raw talent to win, though any more rain is obviously a big worry.
14:10 Newmarket - Arabian Queen
Improved massively on her Windsor win when an excellent sixth in the Queen Mary, where the performance was even better than it looks at first glance as she was in drawn one on the outside, while the winner was in 12, runner-up Tiggy Wiggy in 22, and third-placed Newsletter in 20. This race has cut up a bit, and her run-style and breeding strongly suggest that the step up to 6f, and a lot further in time, will suit. She has a lot going for her, but you have to greatly respect the fact that Andre Fabre's Chantilly winner High Celebrity has come over, as well as Aidan's Group 3 scorer I Am Beautiful, and Parsley. Softish ground would be an unknown.
14:40 Newmarket - Integral
I said at the start of Royal Ascot that Integral was my best ride of the week, and she didn't let us down. We tried her over 1m2f in the Nassau last season but this filly shows me so much speed at home that, if anything, I wouldn't be averse to dropping down from a mile, rather than stepping back up again. That pace was much in evidence as she cruised through the Duke of Cambridge at Ascot last time, and did it really well, with a few of these in behind.
Now, she is 5lb worse off at the weights with Sky Lantern, who was having her seasonal debut, so that will level the playing field in many people's eyes. But I was only beaten a length by that horse off levels in the Sun Chariot last season, and I think that I have a much better horse under me now. I'll be disappointed, and maybe a little surprised, if I am beaten, to be honest, though, again, softish ground would be the big unknown. If there is a lot more rain about, then I think Kiyoshi could be the dangerous one. She looked a star in the Albany last season and, if they have had a clear run with her since her comeback at Ascot, then she could be dangerous. In fact, the two three-year-olds getting weight could be the biggest threats and, of course Rizeena has to be respected, after winning the Coronation for me.
15:15 Newmarket - Royal Seal
Turning a horse out again quickly always has its potential downside, but she appears to have come out of her Sandown win over 7f on Saturday well and runs here under a 6lb penalty. To be honest, she surprised me by winning so well there, but I am always happy be to proven wrong when they win. She settled nicely in a first-time hood, so hopefully she can travel as well again in what should a very strongly-run and flat-out 6f, and her proven stamina will then come into play. It will be a much different rhythm of race to Sandown and this is clearly more competitive, but she has an obvious form chance and there is hopefully more to come. I guess that I will find out soon enough whether or not being drawn 19 or 20 is good news, or further rain, is good news for her.
15:50 Newmarket - Prince Gagarin
I don't think that Ed has had a two-year-old winner this season but he has only run a handful, and he had a newcomer finish a 33/1 second to a decent horse of ours last week, so that is encouraging. And this one is related to a lot of winners, being a Dubawi half-brother to Racing Post runner-up and Craven winner Elusive Pimpernel, so that gives you hope, as does this starting trip of 7f. In fact, Elusive Pimpernel actually won this race on his debut. I sat on Prince Gagarin a while ago and he was a nice type, though I would imagine that he would need this run.
16:25 Newmarket - Razor Wind
Razor Wind clearly ran a very encouraging race when third on his debut at Windsor, and the second came out and won on Tuesday, as well as the fourth winning subsequently. So he has to have a leading chance, but this race is full of unknowns, and the likes of Obsidian have probably shown a similar level of form to mine, too.
17:00 Newmarket - Billingsgate
This looks a competitive little handicap but Billingsgate appeared to get the job done well at Doncaster, picking up well to get on top close home, and the form looks OK. A 6lb rise for that win is probably fair enough and hopefully there is more to come from him, having had just the four starts. Has form with cut in the ground.

15:15 Friday 11th July Racing Tips - 11/07/2014
The rain really has put a dampener on the July Festival and there have been a host of NRs. I like Nakuti in the first but she wants a decent pace at this trip and with a smaller field that's not certain. Either way she is the play at 6/1 but it's not one to go crazy with, though conditions will suit. She traveled so well on juicy ground behind Night Of Thunder last year and her Wee Jean form now looks pretty good. That was off 3lb higher and we can forgive her Ascot run when out of the handicap and on quick ground. I like the favourite but this is a tough ask for a 9/4 shot. She should like the ground. Newmarket 13.40 - Nakuti 1pt win
Purr Along is an inferior filly to 2 of these but can't really go unbacked on soft ground. It's not that she doesn't handle better ground but she is more at home on soft than the others. Conditions will inconvenience Integral and Sky Lantern and the latter may not run. I also feel that there's a chance the higher profile camps will not want to leave races behind on this sort of ground. I know it's a Falmouth but serious Group 1 campaigns lie in wait for the top 2 fillies and that will be at the back of the teams' minds. If it was good ground I'd have Sky Lantern to reverse form with Integral but Purr Along is worth a nibble at 6/1 in these conditions. Newmarket 14.40 - Purr Along 1pt win
Charles Molson is at the top of the shortlist for the big handicap but there are a few at more tempting prices and he is becoming that dangerous 'unlucky' horse. Kickboxer is 14/1, well drawn in amongst the main pace and will love the ground. I also like the other Channon horse Divine who is well handicapped but may not like conditions. Kickboxer is worse off with a few of these but a straight 6 with cut is his trip and 7 at Chester didn't suit last time. At a bigger price it's worth having a nibble at Supplicant and certainly Suzi's Connoisseur whose Epsom run has worked out well (it will look even better if Nakuti wins earlier on the card). He is well worth a go back at 6 as he faded in the Britannia, though he was drawn the wrong side and that form took a boost yesterday. He is a Listed winner and the yard are going well. The ground is a concern and he'd be happier if it were good to soft but his dam liked cut and he's worth a go at 33/1. Newmarket 15.15 - Kickboxer 1pt e/w Newmarket 15.15 - Suzi's Connoisseur 1pt e/w

Race Ratings Saturday, 12 July - 2.30 Ascot Fred Cowley MBE Memorial Summer Mile Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (4yo+) 1m
7-9442 Baltic Knight 14 4 Richard Hannon Trainer's father won this race a few years ago with Dick Turpin. Baltic Knight hasn't ap- proached that horse's level, but should prefer this slightly quicker ground. Has won a Listed race so far, last season, and was soundly beaten in a Group 3 over distance at Glorious Good- wood. Latest second in a Listed race wasn't a bad effort, but needs to improve. RATING 94 055683 Empire Storm 14 7 Michael Atxxxxer Was beaten two lengths at level weights by Baltic Knight when third last time in Listed race at Windsor. That form was probably the equal of Empire Storm's beaten-fifth in the Lockinge earlier this season, which means he has some- thing to find with Tullius, also. May pick up some minor prize money, but places look a tough task. RATING 93 50-551 Farraaj 36 5 Roger Varian After a slowish start to the season, Farraaj ran as well as ever last time, when winning the 10f Class 2 handicap on Derby Day at Epsom. That run earned him his current and highest official rating to date, of 111. Has been placed in Group 1 races abroad, and won the Group 3 Winter Derby last season. Fairly consistent, but more needed here to have more than a small each-way chance. RATING 95 23422 Fencing 28 5 John Gosden Early form included Listed win and Group 1-third at two, and sixth in the 2,000 Guineas, but his profile has flattened out and has been held in Listed races on latest starts. Stable having good season and have a good record at this course, but others preferred to this horse. RATING 94 5950-1 Field Of Dream 24 7 Jamie Osborne Career-best effort last time when winning the Royal Hunt Cup on his seasonal debut. That was his second win at this course, having won the International Stakes for this yard in 2012. Was previously trained by Luca Cumani, for whom he was placed in Listed races and ran respectably in Group races. Very good handi- capper, but has to find something on this step up in class. RATING 95 546-07 Glory Awaits 25 4 Kevin Ryan Runner-up in last season's 2,000 Guineas, but subsequent form hasn't matched that perform- ance. That said, latest five and a quarter-length seventh behind Toronado (and Tullius) in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes last time, after a break, is probably very good form. Not dis- missed on this drop in class and should be thereabouts. RATING 98 5-1221 Graphic 6 5 William Haggas Was fourth in the Cambridgeshire last season, winning a further two decent handicaps at the backend of the campaign. Progressed this sea- son in Listed races, was second in the Diomed Stakes at Epsom and then chalked up first pat- tern race win last Sunday in a Group 3 in France. Heading the right way, but comes here in hope that he didn’t have too hard a race only six days ago, and may prefer some cut in the ground. RATING 98 397-41 Guest Of Honour 28 5 Marco Botti Held by Graphic when that horse won a Listed race over 1m at Doncaster at start of season. Lat- est win was at Listed level, ahead of Fencing. Was third in this race last year, and today's conditions should suit, but the market principals look of a higher order this year and Guest Of Honour probably has place claims at best. RATING 96 7-8624 Highland Knight 36 7 Andrew Balding Held by Graphic on his fourth in the Diomed Stakes, but the third and fifth have subsequently won at a decent level, so Highland Knight, al- though one of advancing years, has claims in this race. His overall form is slightly below that of the last two seasons, when winning or placed in five Group 2 or 3 races, and looks the stable's second string after Tullius. RATING 96 319-16 Long John 105 4 Charlie Appleby Confirmed top-class ability in Australia for previ- ous trainer Peter Snowden, when winning UAE 2,000 Guineas in spring, but appeared to run below par in UAE Derby next time. Comes here after a break and with stable in fair form cur- rently, and an unbeaten record over distance, he could be a major threat if on song. RATING 98 4-0178 Mull Of Killough 25 8 Jane Chapple-Hyam A veritable globe-trotter who ran respectably when eighth in the Queen Anne last time, having been below-par over 10f in the Singapore Airlines Cup previously. Seasonal debut win in a 9f Group 3 at Newmarket was his second win in that race and third over the Rowley Mile course at that dis- tance. That form entitles him to respect in this company, if with a little to find. RATING 96 4101-5 Producer 25 5 Richard Hannon Won a Group 2 over distance in Turkey at the end of last season, and was a fine fifth behind Tullius in the Queen Anne last time. Has also won two Group 3 races and several Listed races, so deserves plenty of respect in this company, if not quite having the win claims of one or two others. RATING 98 3-4322 Professor 21 4 Richard Hannon Ran well off a big weight when second in the Wok- ingham last time, following three fair to good ef- forts in Listed races this season. Currently rated 111, his highest official mark to date, but needs to prove himself at this level. RATING 96 10-926 Soft Falling Rain 25 5 M F De Kock Won the Group 2 Joel Stakes at Newmarket over this distance last September but ap- peared to be all at sea on soft ground in the QEII at this course next time. Ran out of steam in last half-furlong of Queen Anne last time, on first run in three months, so respected on this drop back in class. RATING 99 40-131 The Rectifier 13 7 Seamus Durack Though seven years of age, The Rectifier's en- thusiasm has been rekindled this season and last, with four wins, including last Sunday week at Salisbury. Deserves a crack at something better, but despite being in good heart at the moment, he has plenty to find here. RATING 94 66-540 Trumpet Major 24 5 Richard Hannon Former Group 2 winner, whose recent form has waned over this season and last. Not out of it on fair fourth in Suffolk Stakes, a Class 2 handicap, two starts ago, but this looks a decent enough re- newal of the Summer Stakes, and he has a lot to prove, having dropped 9lb in the ratings since finishing sixth in last year's race. RATING 93 03077 Zambucca 14 6 Gay Kelleway Former Group-class horse who has underper- formed in his latest two starts for new stable, despite dropping in class to Listed level last time. Group 2-third in Dubai earlier this year gives him a faint chance of showing something, but has a lot to prove now. RATING 95 7-2124 Tullius 25 6 Andrew Balding Lightly-raced six-year-old who has been mak- ing up for lost time with fine runs in defeat in the Lockinge and Queen Anne this sea- son, following win in the Group 2 Sandown Mile in April. Has arguably improved since finishing third in this race two years ago and although some rain would help his cause, by easing the ground, he does perform on good or quicker surfaces. RATING 100 ==========================================
RACING NEWS.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Estimate, who is owned by the Queen and last month came close to winning the Ascot Gold Cup for the second time, could make her next start in the Group 2 Goodwood Cup. Stoute also mentioned the Irish St Leger as a possible target for Estimate. Her stablemate, Telescope, who won the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, is expected to return to Ascot later this month for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. 2012 Derby runner-up Main Sequence returned to winning ways last weekend, on his stable debut for ex-pat trainer Graham Motion, in the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park. Main Sequence now has an automatic entry in the Breeders' Cup Turf, but Motion said there are no firm plans with him. The Andrew Balding-trained Side Glance finished third in the same race under Jamie Spencer. Epsom Downs racecourse bosses are considering moving the Derby, Britain's most prestigious Flat race, to an evening slot on the same Saturday in June, in the wake of the news that viewing figures for last month's race, which peaked at 1.55 million, were half of what they were last time the race was screened on the BBC. Epsom's managing director, Rupert Trevelyan, said any move in the schedul- ing of the Derby was subject to approval from the Queen, whose presence at the meeting he described as being 'para- mount'. Trevelyan also reported that the racecourse had been advised by broad- casters that every hour later that the race is broadcast, equates to a potential extra 1 million viewers. The expectations of trainer Markus Klug were exceeded by the runaway victory of his charge Sea The Moon in the German Derby last Sunday. On entering the home straight, jockey Christophe Soumillon sur- prised many when he brought Sea The Moon across from the far side to the stands' rail and was fairly motionless as his horse cruised to an 11-length victory, having been progressively eased down from a furlong out. Klug said: "We were very confident, but we did not expect him to win like that!" Bookmakers reacted by cutting the son of Sea The Stars' ante- post Arc prices from 20s to as short as 6/1. Chicquita, the 2013 Irish Oaks winner, when trained by Alain De Royer-Dupre, is reportedly being trained for an autumn campaign, according to her new trainer, Aidan O'Brien. The Ballydoyle trainer is aiming the four-year-old daugh- ter of Montjeu at the Prix de L'Opera. Chicquita was sold by her previous connections for €6m at a Goffs dispersal sale last November. A canny ride from Paul Hanagan provided the Willie Haggas-trained Mukhadram with victory in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown last Saturday. Hanagan asked Mukhadram for a response from the three-furlong marker and he took over the lead and held on at the close to land his first Group 1 win, having come close be- fore, including when second in the Dubai World Cup earlier this year. Haggas also enjoyed another first the following day, when Graphic won his first Pattern race, a Group 3 race at Maisons-Laffitte. ========================================
STAT WATCH.
While form can only tell you what's happened previously, having an idea of which trainers are currently in form, or which jockeys have the best record at a certain racecourse, can help you to keep on the win- ning track. With relevance to this Saturday's televised races, this column highlights the current trends Last week's stats-influenced selections yielded one winner, Justice Day, who prevailed at a nice 5/1. We hope to build on that positive result this Saturday, for which Channel 4 is set to have a busy afternoon, screening selected races from Ascot (1.55 and 2.30), Newmarket (2.05, 2.40, 3.15 and 3.50) and York (1.40, 2.20, 2.55 and 3.30). With so much Flat action to dissect, a glance at the Flat stats for the past week may prove prudent. Graham Lee and Joe Fanning top the jockeys' standing jointly, with 10 wins apiece in the week ending Monday, 7 July. Both had near identical strikes rates of 31.25% and 33% respectively. By strike rate, the form jockey was Adam Kirby, whose 55% was well clear of George Baker's 40%. Lead- ing trainer of the week was Mark Johnston, who saddled 10 winners, twice as many as his closest rival, Richard Fahey. Top trainers by strike rate were Clive Cox (50%), Luca Cumani (45%) and Keith Dalgleish (41.7%). In the first of the televised races from Ascot (1.55), the 5f handicap, Clive Cox's (32% strike rate past 14 days) Milly's Gift won her first run over distance last time and is 2 from 5 on the expected good ground. Kevin Ryan is the fourth-most-winning trainer at this course in the past five seasons (of those trainers with entrants in the race) and his charge, York Glory, has dropped to his lowest mark since winning the Wokingham last year. He has winning form on the ground, over distance and at this course, and showed good form in his last three runs over 5f last year, in Group 1, 3 and Listed races. Andrew Balding's Tullius is the form horse in the 2.30, the Summer Mile Stakes. 22% of Balding's runners in the past 14 days have won and Tullius has won 6 races over a mile in his career to date. Willie Haggas's team are in rare form, winning 32% of their races in the same 14- day period, and Graphic could go well in this race, with a 46% strike rate over distance. At Newmarket, the 1m handicap (2.05) looks within the compass of local trainer John Gosden's Wannabe Yours, who has previous winning form on the going and over distance, and comes to this race unbeaten in his two starts to date this sea- son. Also, Gosden's runners have won 21% of their races in the past fortnight and the yard has won more races at Newmarket's July course than any other in the past five seasons. Charlie Appleby's Safety Check is worth a second glance on last sea- son's form, when he won over course and dis- tance, and as the yard has a 23% strike rate at the course since 2009. In the 2.40, a Group 2 over 7f, trainer Aidan O'Brien holds a strong hand, with sev- eral decent entrants in a race he has trained the winner of once in the past 10 years; Highland Reel and Dick Whittington look to have the strongest claims. Look at the markets for clues for this race; only 3 of the last 10 winners were sent off favourite, but 5 of the other 7 started at odds shorter than 10/1. In the Bunbury Cup at 3.15, Andrew Balding's Absolutely So is interesting back at 7f, having been outpaced over 6f last time when a beaten-favourite at Royal Ascot. He hasn't had too much racing and could go well in a race where those higher up the weights have tended to do bet- ter in the past 10 years. Another to consider is Roger Varian's Horsted Keynes, who has won 4 times over distance and on the expected good-firm ground. In the July Cup (3.50), Irish trainer Edward Lynam has two Group 1 winners at his disposal, Sole Power and Slade Power, of which the latter looks the pick by virtue of his 8 wins to date over distance. Kevin Ryan's Hot Streak should go well, with winning form on the going and distance, and a handy weight concession from his older rivals. At York, in the 3.30, a Listed race over 5f, the sea- soned campaigner Kingsgate Native looks to have a chance at the weights with Extortionist, who beat him last week at Sandown. Kingsgate Native could be ridden by Ryan Moore in this race, who is 22% at York since 2009. Alternatively, David O'Meara's (trainer with the most wins at York since 2009 of those with entries in this race) G Force is unex- posed and a course and distance winner, too. ==========================================

In a hard-hitting column, Ryan Moore warns that scheduling all the attractive meetings for Saturdays and leaving the cupboard bare on Sunday is damaging racing...
It is pretty disappointing when a racing nation like ours continually dresses up its shop window for the weekend, then proceeds to stick as many market stalls as it can in front of it on Saturday, and then move it down an alleyway on Sunday.
Because that is what racing at Newmarket, Ascot, York (where I'm headed) and Chester on Saturday - and, with all due respect, then moving on to Southwell, Stratford and Perth the following day - effectively achieves.
It certainly wouldn't happen in Australia, France or Japan, to name just three other countries.
Do you think that if Sky had four live Premier League football matches to show this weekend, they would let the football clubs and venues dictate to them that they would all have the same kick-off time on the Saturday, and then leave their viewers watching a Championship "Super Sunday" double-header?
Of course they wouldn't.
Some heads would be knocked together, compromises made, agreements reached, maybe compensation paid, and a proper schedule would result for the benefit of all.
But because the racecourses are seemingly calling racing's tune, we have another ridiculous situation this weekend. And there will be one again next year, too, if nothing is done about it.
Trainers are scrambling around for jockeys this weekend, and not even declaring horses that they want to run because no-one suitable is available to ride them.
It wouldn't happen in any other sport. I wouldn't expect to go to Arsenal on a Saturday afternoon, and see squad players after paying £60-odd quid for a ticket.
The public want to see the best jockeys riding the best horses at the best tracks, and they cannot all be at Newmarket, York, Ascot and Chester at the same time.
Owners, trainers and jockeys have to be given every opportunity to race the best horses in the best races, showcasing the sport.
But, by concentrating all the good race meetings on Saturdays - with very few exceptions, maybe the 1,000 Guineas and a couple of meetings over jumps, Sundays are pretty much an irrelevance in the grand scheme of things - it is becoming a bit of a farce.
And sponsors of these big Saturday races are in danger of being short-changed, too, because decent races are getting lost in the mix.
Channel 4 are showing 10 races in a 130-minute spell on Saturday, and if some of these races over-run, for whatever reason, then it will be scheduling chaos and coverage of some may start as the stalls are opening.
No time for sponsor name-checks, analysis, or betting shows to help the levy.
So, who is the winner there?
I ask you, why couldn't one or two of these four big tracks, race on Sunday? Would it have made that much difference to attendances?
My guess is - with proper organisation, notice, marketing and promotion - not much. Certainly not at places like the July Course, and Chester, who can attract crowds.
But even if it did make a difference, sit down and agree some compensation with the tracks willing to switch, maybe funded out of the increased levy which would almost certainly result from the sport having the ability to promote itself properly at two of the four big meetings on the Sunday?
Maybe give the tracks some money to book a band for Sundays to get them interested and the attendances up, if that is what needed, because something has to give.
Obviously, with specific reference to Newmarket this weekend, there is the option of moving the July Cup back to midweek, and putting on a lower-class meeting on the Saturday.
I cannot believe that it is beyond racing constituents to get together and do what is best for the sport.
As it happens, I am off to France anyway on Sunday to ride The Grey Gatsby, so this isn't borne out of self-interest. But would I, and the other jockeys, like to have had the opportunity to ride at Newmarket and York on Saturday, and at Ascot or Chester on Sunday? You know the answer to that. And so does everyone else. It's just that nobody seems to want - or, more worryingly, has the ability to - do anything about it, which is a crying shame.

Native aiming for Walls win Kingsgate Native has a rare foray outside of Group-race company as he bids for a first success since May last year in the five-furlong John Smith's City Walls Stakes at York on Saturday. The Listed event looks a good opportunity for the Robert Cowell-trained nine-year-old, who is a stalwart of the sprinting game and has not run in a race of this class since finishing down the field at Dundalk in October 2012. The Knavesmire remains the scene of his greatest moment, as he famously won the 2007 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes as a two-year-old when in the care of John Best. His latest effort was a solid one, finishing second to Extortionist in the Coral Charge on Eclipse day at Sandown last weekend. Cowell said: "Kingsgate Native showed he is great condition, having finished second the other day at Sandown. He is still a fresh horse this year and I can see him running a really good race. He likes the course and was a good fifth in the Nunthorpe last year. " He is dropping down to a Listed race, which is the first time he's done that for a long time, so he should be one of the favourites I would have thought." The progressive G Force represents David O'Meara on the back of his third in the Scurry Stakes at Sandown, while Paul Midgley's Monsieur Joe is another to arrive in fine form after his recent third at the Curragh . Last year's Wokingham winner York Glory (Kevin Ryan) has been keeping good company, as has Chantilly Listed second Mirza for Rae Guest. ==================================== Tullius takes aim at Summer Mile Andrew Balding will give Tullius a break no matter how he performs in the Fred Cowley MBE Memorial Summer Mile Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. The six-year-old will be having his fifth start of the season in the Group Two, having run in races as varied as the Lincoln at the opening meeting of the season and the prestigious Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. He returns to the Berkshire track after running a thoroughly creditable fourth behind Toronado. Balding would prefer to see a shower or two of rain, while stablemate Highland Knight also takes his chance. "If they got any rain that would be a help for Tulius. As long as the ground is on the good side of good to firm that would be fine for him," said the Kingsclere handler. "He's proven at this level and if he runs his usual race he should be right in the mix. He's been busy and whatever happens he will be having a break after this, but he still appears to be in good form at home. "Highland Knight is very consistent. He won a Group Two in Germany and a Group Three here last year and is more than capable in races like this. If he runs his race he shouldn't be far away either." Richard Hannon has three representatives in Baltic Knight, Producer and Trumpet Major. "Baltic Knight was pulled out last week because of the fast ground, so hopefully the forecast showers materialise," said Hannon on www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. "He ran a cracker in Listed company at Windsor last time, and we feel he is improving with racing this season, while Producer, who picked up £220,000 for winning in Turkey last season, also got in the money when finishing fifth in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot. "That was a huge jump in class for him, but he acquitted himself well and he never lets us down. "We are three-handed here as we also run Trumpet Major. You can forget his run in the Hunt Cup as the tongue tie came off down at the start and they could not get it back on. We have decided to run him in a spoon-bit this time - it works a treat for Toronado, so hopefully it will also help him." Godolphin's Long John has his first run in Europe having finished sixth behind Toast Of New York in the UAE Derby. "Long John travelled back well from Dubai. He was disappointing on World Cup night but I feel that was down to the slow conditions - the track was riding slow. From what we have seen at home, he enjoys turf and is a proven performer on the surface in Australia," trainer Charlie Appleby told www.godolphin.com"Long John has shown more enthusiasm in Newmarket than he did in Dubai. We are hopeful of a nice run on Saturday. If all goes well, the Celebration Mile at Goodwood could be a future target but we will cross this bridge first. For me, this horse is a miler." ================================ Royal gamble So in Bunbury chase Andrew Balding believes Absolutely So, a major disappointment when a huge gamble for the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, will have more in his favour in Saturday's 666bet Bunbury Cup at Newmarket. The four-year-old was dropping back a furlong in trip and racing on ground faster than ideal, but that did not stop his price tumbling from 14-1 into 4-1 near the off. He found things happening all too quickly and could finish only 15th but the recent rain and going back up to seven furlongs is expected to suit. However, stablemate Zanetto is not a fan of the rain. "I was glad it rained, he's got decent form on soft ground. He's in good nick - he was a major disappointment at Ascot, but that was because of the fast ground we think. I've no idea why he was so well backed there when we had major reservations about the ground," said Balding. "He's in good form and I'm hoping for a good run. "As for Zanetto, he doesn't like it soft and isn't a certain runner." Luca Cumani's Ayaar has been a strong ante-post fancy since betting opened but his participation depends on how much the ground dries up overnight. Owned by Al Shaqab Racing, their racing manager Harry Herbert said: "He hates soft ground so I've had a word with Luca and we'll see how it looks. He's highly unlikely to run as the International at Ascot is only two weeks away and Luca doesn't want to waste a run. It's a shame as he's in such good form, so we'll see. It will be Luca's call." Another ante-post fancy for the race has been Roger Varian's Horsted Keynes after his luckless run in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, but the recent rain means his appearance is also in doubt. "Horsted Keynes is a progressive horse - he ran a great race at Ascot and is a four-year-old on the up," the trainer told www.varianstabes.com"I will speak to his owners, but at this stage I would say he is an unlikely runner unless the ground dries out considerably." Richard Hannon's Professor steps up in trip having run well with a big weight in the Wokingham at Ascot and he lines up off his old mark. "Professor produced a career-best performance to finish second in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot and went up 3lb, but he can run off his old mark (108) in the Bunbury Cup, and we know he is equally effective over seven (furlongs) as he is six," the handler told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. Three horses who have already been taken out are Dean Ivory's Sirius Prospect, Marco Botti's Don't Bother Me and Ed Vaughan's Redvers. ============================== Cup glory in Sniper's sights The Queen's racing manager John Warren believes Bold Sniper is a "worthy favourite" for the 55th John Smith's Cup at York on Saturday. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old made an encouraging return to action when third at Newmarket's Guineas meeting at the start of May and came close to giving the reigning monarch a Royal Ascot winner when narrowly denied in the Wolferton Handicap. With the Stoute yard in flying form and Ryan Moore travelling to the Knavesmire for the ride, Bold Sniper is unsurprisingly strongly fancied for the £150,000 feature and Warren admits hopes are high in the camp. Warren said: "I think Sir Michael identified this race as the perfect race for the horse and we go there very hopeful of a big run. He's a horse who really wants a good gallop to be seen at his best and a very competitive, big field handicap like this should be exactly what he needs. "Everything is right for him at the moment, I can see why he's a worthy favourite and hopefully he has a real sporting chance." One of the main hopes for the home county is Clever Cookie, who represents less illustrious connections than the likely market leader. Trained by former National Hunt jockey Peter Niven, the six-year-old enjoyed a successful spell jumping through the winter and is unbeaten in three starts since turning his attentions to the Flat, winning at York the last twice. "Clever Cookie isn't short of speed, he showed that when winning at the Dante meeting. The drop in distance isn't a worry - my only concern would be very fast ground," said the Malton handler. "He seems in good form - I am happy with him. This has been his target since his last win and we were able to give him a little break. There aren't many options for him but this is a big prize and it's great to have a horse like him to run in it. Hopefully he'll run well. We love making entries at York - it is a great place to have winners." German import Tahira is another interesting contender for Niven's fellow Yorkshire-based trainer John Quinn. The Doyen filly was well beaten by Clever Cookie at York in the middle of May on her British debut, but stepped forward to fill the runner-up spot at Chester last time. Quinn said: "She is in good form. She ran a nice race at York the first time and Saturday's race is very competitive but she is well and has a grand draw (stall five). She would appreciate dry ground, which I hope she will have. We are hoping for a good run." Last year's leading York trainer David O'Meara launches a formidable three-pronged assault on the mile-and-a-quarter contest, with dual course winner Chancery joined by stable companions Two For Two and Ingleby Angel. O'Meara said: "Chancery likes it at York and ran a good race at Newmarket last time, so hopefully he'll run well. Two For Two won nicely at Ayr a few weeks ago and is going back up in trip from a mile. He ran well over a mile and a quarter at Royal Ascot last year (sixth in Wolferton Handicap), so hopefully he'll be all right. Ingleby Spirit steps up to a mile and a quarter as well, but it looks as though it should suit." Zain Eagle showed some smart form in 2013 when trained by Gerard Butler and made an encouraging start for Robert Cowell at Kempton. Cowell said: "I don't have many horses that can work with him because he is quick but he is relentless - a relentless galloper. He doesn't have many miles on the clock and he is a pretty professional type of horse. Whether he is where he needs to be in the handicap, we'll see." The Roger Varian-trained Farraaj is on a career-high mark after running away with a competitive handicap at Epsom on Oaks day. Speaking on www.varianstable.com, the trainer said: "Farraaj is very well. He has the class for a race like this, we just need a bit of luck from his wide draw." Ismail Mohammed's Educate is a previous winner over the course and distance and turns out eight days after finishing fourth in a Sandown Listed contest. Assistant trainer Niall Collum said: "He came out of the Sandown race well and we just hope the race doesn't come too quick. On his homework he seems well and fresh, so hopefully he'll be all right. He's won at the track before, which is a big plus, and the ground doesn't seem to make too much difference to him." ================================== Injury forces The Fugue retirement John Gosden's brilliant mare The Fugue has run her last race due to injury. The five-year-old broke the track record in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot only last month, beating last year's Breeders' Cup Turf winner Magician and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve in the process. She was sent off a hot favourite to follow up in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown last Saturday but was always towards the rear of the field and never got involved, trailing home in sixth place. Initial reports were that she had returned home unscathed but connections have been dealt a blow with the discovery of an injury to her near-fore. Owned by Lord Lloyd Webber, the daughter of Dansili won six of her 17 starts, earning just short of £2million in win and place prize-money. Other career highlights included victories in the 2012 Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, when Richard Hughes rode as Buick opted for stablemate Izzi Top, and last season's Yorkshire Oaks and Irish Champion Stakes. She was beaten half a length by Magician at Santa Anita and the following month was agonisingly denied again when three-quarters of a length behind Dominant in the Hong Kong Vase. William Buick rode The Fugue to four of her victories and told Channel 4 Racing: "When things fell right for her and she was on her A-game, she was very good. "She should remembered for those good wins she had, especially in the Prince of Wales's (Stakes) this year. She broke the track record and beat world champion horses. "She's retiring on a huge high. I know things didn't go right for her in the Eclipse and obviously the ground wasn't right. She did something to herself in the race and it explains why she was so under par. "She lost nothing in defeat and she's filly that will always be close to my heart. She was all about pace - turn of foot, travel and pace. "She always needed an uninterrupted run and sometimes things didn't go her way. She was a beautiful filly to ride, but it was always a fine line between getting it very right and getting it wrong with her. "On her day, she was awesome. She was only out of the first three four times. She ran in America and has taken me all over the world. I'll never forget her, that's for sure." ======================================= Kirk run continues Nakuti continued a good season for Sylvester Kirk by finishing well in the Price Bailey EBF Stallions Fillies' Handicap at Newmarket. Ryan Moore's mount (9-2) has had a busy season, but the easing of the ground on the July Course played into her hands. Nakuti made fine headway to come between horses in the final furlong and ended up beating Gown by three-quarters of a length. Kirk's representative Sue McNulty said: "She was getting weight from most of the others and she loved the ground. The softer the better." Deeds Not Words was a shock 33-1 winner of the Betfred Mobile Heritage Handicap for trainer Mick Channon and apprentice jockey Charles Bishop. While the pack split into two groups on either side of the track, Bishop bravely ploughed a lone furrow down the middle aboard Deeds Not Words for much of the six-furlong journey. The three-year-old was in front passing the furlong marker, with See The Sun, Remember and The Hooded Claw all close up, but Deeds Not Words knuckled down to take top honours by a length and a quarter. Remember filled the runner-up spot, with 13-2 joint-favourite Golden Steps in third. The other joint-favourite Charles Molson was bitterly disappointing and passed the post a long way last. Bishop said: "He was a really good two-year-old and had just lost his way a bit, but he's obviously got it back. I've been sort of letting him find his feet before and today I was more positive on him. I think that's the trick to him - just be as positive as you can. He was very gutsy and I want to thank Mr Channon for giving me the chance. "It's nice to be able to get a ride on a day like this, let alone ride a winner." Jack Channon, representing his father, said: "At first I thought I could hear the old man screaming at home that he (Bishop) had gone up the middle of the track. "As a three-year-old they can take a couple runs to get there, while the five-furlong trip did not suit last time and stepping back up to six furlongs is what he needed. We also decided to sit a bit more closer to the pace than in his previous races. We are very pleased with him and it is good to get him back to form. "These sprinters take it in turns in winning these races and thankfully today was our day." Lexington Times confirmed the promise of his course and distance debut a fortnight ago by turning in a professional display to land the Weatherbys EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes for Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes. The Paco Boy colt was one of only two horses in an 11-strong field with previous experience and having run an excellent second on his racecourse debut, he was the 15-8 favourite to go one place better. The youngster moved through the race with plenty of zest and stuck on for pressure in the closing stages to score by three-quarters of a length. Godolphin's newcomer Good Contact finished strongly to fill the runner-up spot, with another Hannon runner Basateen in third. There were plenty for the notebook finishing behind in a race that is bound to throw up a host of future winners. "He's a lovely colt, he just got chinned here last time and has come on for it.. He'll probably go for a novice race now. The third's run a great race as well, I like him too," said Hannon. ===================================== Ladies' day again at York There were not many dry eyes among the connections of Ladies Are Forever after the popular mare took York's totepool Summer Stakes for the third time in four years. Trained by Geoff Oldroyd and owned by Reg Bond, who has sponsored races on the Knavesmire for many years, the six-year-old was sent off the 7-2 joint-favourite along with Frankel's half-sister Joyeuse. It was the market leaders who dominated the finish, but Danny Tudhope was always travelling better on Ladies Are Forever and kicked clear with a furlong to run. Lady Cecil's Joyeuse gave chase under James Doyle but was never quite getting there, going down by a head with Indignant back in third and Willbeme running a big race in fourth. The win was so popular as Bond has been suffering from ill health for some time. "This is great for Reg, he hasn't been racing since this day last year," said Oldroyd. "He's had a tumour, which thankfully seems to have shrivelled up, he broke his arm in three places and then got pneumonia twice while he was in hospital." He added of the winner: "It takes some doing winning a Group race three times with a mare. Today we put full blinkers back on her as she just pulls herself up in front and she did again a bit today, but Danny said she was never getting caught. "The only year she didn't win this was when we gave her a wind op and she didn't run. "We might look at taking her to Goodwood." ==================================== Dual Power play looks on for Lynam Sole Power appears increasingly likely to be allowed to join stable companion Slade Power in Saturday's Darley July Cup after trainer Eddie Lynam received an encouraging report on conditions from big-race jockey Richard Hughes on Friday. Sole Power was a scintillating winner of the King's Stand at Royal Ascot, but heavy rain in Newmarket throughout Thursday and into Friday morning threatened to scupper his participation in this weekend's Group One feature. However, the ground was widely reported to have held up well during Friday's fixture and as long as there is no further deterioration in conditions, Lynam is set to launch a formidable twin assault. "The ground is not as bad as we expected. I've spoken to Richard Hughes who rode there on Friday and he said it not as bad as he thought it would be, so if there's no more rain we'll be running I expect. We certainly won't be taking him out before Friday night and as the horse is over there and in good form he'll probably run," said Lynam. Slade Power is the coming force in the sprinting world and bagged his first Group One with an impressive display in the Diamond Jubilee at the Royal meeting to complete at fantastic week for Lynam. He appears effective on any ground. Lynam said: "They have both had an A1 preparation for this race, although I have done nothing major with them since Royal Ascot. Slade Power has done nothing but improve throughout his career and we are hopeful that he still has a bit more improvement left in him. The Diamond Jubilee was a good result for him but I think he might have been idling a bit in front, his jockey (Wayne Lordan) certainly thinks that he was. "It would be hard to make a case that Sole Power's best trip is anything other than five furlongs but I still believe that he is a pretty potent force over six furlongs and he was only a neck and a head behind Slade Power in this last year. The last time that Sole Power ran in a Group One race over six furlongs he was second to the best sprinter in the world (Lord Kanaloa) in Hong Kong last December with Slade Power behind him." Aljamaaheer was something of a nearly horse over a mile so trainer Roger Varian has dropped him to six furlongs this term and both of his runs have suggested it is a good move. "Royal Ascot probably represented a step forward on his Abernant Stakes run and he would have been second in another stride. He has got a length and three-quarters to make up on Slade Power, it's a tough division and we have got to turn the form book around. But, without fishing for excuses, I still think that it is fair to say that he still has another couple of pounds worth of improvement in him," said Varian. "Paul Hanagan rightly said that we spent the whole of last year trying to get him to switch off. He is still adjusting to new race conditions and this is only his third try at sprinting. He is in very good condition at the moment and we really want to try and bag one of these top races with him. We would have preferred quicker ground and any drying out between now and then would help." An added ingredient is the presence of the Spanish raider Noozhoh Canarias, not disgraced when sixth in the Qipco 2000 Guineas. His trainer Enrique Leon said: "He had a gallop on Tuesday which sharpened him up and woke him up a bit and now he's really ready to go. He's a good traveller, he has been here for the best part of a week now and has taken everything very well. He won't necessarily make the running, he just needs to use his pace as he has a very long stride. If anyone wants to go faster than him then we will be happy to sit in behind. "I think the Guineas form is very strong, as he had many Group One horses behind him, and if he reproduces that run I will be happy and he should go close." American trainer Wesley Ward made his name in Europe by plundering two-year-old races at Royal Ascot and has brought over Undrafted, owned by Wes Welker, an American football star, and ridden by Frankie Dettori. "He's doing great, I'm really excited about the race. The horse seems to be on the top of his game right now, he just beat all the best of the American sprinters in a 300,000 dollar invitational race on Belmont Stakes day," Ward told Betfred TV. "Unfortunately the flight got delayed 24 hours but it really didn't set us back at all, the horse ate up great. I'm very excited. I really think he's coming into his own right now, he had a wonderful campaign at two and three. This being his four-year-old campaign, which should be his best, we freshened him up in the fall. He hooked back into the dirt on his first race back against probably one of the best sprinters in our country and ran a credible third. "We switched him to the Polytrack, which he's trained on, and I was very disappointed in that run. It was a hot and sticky day and the Polytrack can change, he ran really poorly. But he came back on Kentucky Derby day, and indicated he was back by running a valiant second, having met some trouble. When he ran on Belmont Stakes day he put everything together. He came out of it fantastic at home in Keeneland and I'm looking for a big, big performance. "Johnny (Velazquez) is a wonderful rider but in looking at the race and the weight they put on him, Johnny is very, very light. I wanted a very experienced rider and there's no-one in the world more experienced than Frankie Dettori. I wanted a rider that was a little heavier so we wouldn't be packing lots of dead weight. I couldn't think of a better pilot." A real dark horse is Aidan O'Brien's Cougar Mountain who was reportedly the best juvenile at Ballydoyle last year but never made it to the track. He was an impressive winner on his debut and O'Brien said: "We have always liked Cougar Mountain but it took us a while to get the colt to the racecourse. He had a couple of niggling problems but he is back on track now." Colm O'Donoghue rides Cougar Mountain, with Joseph O'Brien on Diamond Jubilee Stakes runner-up Due Diligence. O'Brien has a third runner in the shape of Fountain Of Youth, the mount of James Doyle. David Elsworth's Justice Day is out again quickly after an easy win at Haydock last week. "They've had a bit of rain so we've got to chuck him in I think. He'll be better from now on until the end of the season than he was early on. He was only beaten three lengths by Hot Streak in the Temple and he's a better horse now . It just took him a race or two to get back up to his best. He's coming good now. He's in better form than he was going into the Temple," said the veteran handler. "Don't forget he was third behind Astaire and Hot Streak in the MIddle Park so he's in the right ball park. He does like to get his toe in, though. He's never run a bad race, he's getting better all the time and while it will be tough we may as well have a go." Jack Dexter is another that will appreciate every drop of rain after conditions went against him at Royal Ascot where he was seventh in both the King's Stand Stakes and the Diamond Jubilee. His trainer Jim Goldie feels his charge has each-way prospects if the ground is in his favour. The Glasgow handler told At The Races: "He's good. If it's good to firm ground he'll probably be about seventh or eighth. If it's good to soft he'll probably be in the first three. It depends on the elements. He's probably one of the best horses with cut in the ground, as he proved at Doncaster in his last run last year. It depends what the rain does." Kevin Ryan has two classy three-year-olds in Astaire and Hot Streak, first and second in the Middle Park last year, and both have trained on. Ryan's son Adam said: "Hot Streak wouldn't have run if it hadn't rained, it was a bit too dry for him at Ascot. Astaire has track form and Neil Callan back on him. Neil had to miss his rides on Friday but that was just to make sure he was fine for this." ===================================== Arabian crowned queen at Newmarket Odds-on French raider High Celebrity had to make do with minor honours as Ryan Moore steered Arabian Queen to victory in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket. With just five runners going to post for the Group Two contest, Andre Fabre's Chantilly maiden winner High Celebrity was all the rage as the 4-9 favourite and was ridden with confidence by Maxime Guyon. David Elsworth's Queen Mary sixth Arabian Queen, on the other hand, was sent straight to the lead by Moore on her first attempt at six furlongs. Moore began to wind up the gallop from over two furlongs down and although Guyon tracked the move aboard the market leader, she was unable to reel in the leader. With the rail to guide her, 4-1 shot Arabian Queen found plenty for pressure to score by a length and a quarter. Tongue Twista was a long way back in third. Elsworth and owner Jeff Smith's greatest moments together came through the popular stayer Persian Punch, but another of the stars in the purple and blue silks was Barshiba, Arabian Queen's dam. Such is the esteem in which Fabre is held in this country, High Celebrity went off at 4-9 after a facile victory in a Chantilly maiden. "It's probably a bit of 'Fabre-itus'," said Elsworth. "Andre's very clued up, and he gets respected. "But I believe mine is a good filly, and the second horse would have looked a good winner if we weren't there. "Barshiba stayed well, but this filly has speed. I think she'll stay a mile, and I believe there's a Group One in Newmarket next spring." Smith said: "We could look at the Lowther at York next, and her main aim will be the Cheveley Park." Fabre said: "She had only had one run so there was the lack of experience. At one point I thought she was going to win easily but Maxime said the ground didn't help her. "In all I'm a bit disappointed, but on the other hand I'm happy. She'll probably go to Deauville next." ======================================= Integral dazzles in Falmouth Royal Ascot heroine Integral clinched a first Group One victory with an impressive display in the Qipco Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket under Ryan Moore. The Cheveley Park-owned and -bred filly claimed the Duke of Cambridge Stakes in Berkshire last month and despite encountering more testing conditions on the July Course, she was the 15-8 favourite follow up. Last year's 1000 Guineas heroine Sky Lantern, behind Integral at the Royal meeting but expected to improve, was sent into the lead early on by Richard Hughes and set only a moderate gallop for the first half of the mile contest. Clive Brittain's Rizeena, another Ascot winner having claimed the Coronation Stakes, and Integral were never too far off the pace and moved up to dispute the lead as Sky Lantern disappointingly weakened out of shot. It was soon evident Integral had far more to give than her younger opponent, however, and after switching to the stands' rail in the final furlong, she had plenty in the tank to hold her at bay by two lengths. Peace Burg ran a creditable race in third for Aidan O'Brien, with Sky Lantern eventually coming home a well-beaten fifth. Moore said: "It was always going to be messy sort of race. I thought I was on the best horse and I wanted to keep it simple. I was in front earlier than I wanted to be, but she's improving and hopefully will continue to get better. I see no reason why she shouldn't. "She's a very lightly-raced filly, she won on Oaks day last year (at Goodwood) and has progressed nicely since." Stoute said: "She's done it well. She hasn't been on this sort of ground before and bounces off top of the ground, so we were a bit concerned as we didn't know if she would handle it. We didn't contemplate not running her as we wanted to find out if she would. She's by Dalakhani and very few of those don't go on this sort of ground. "She's in the Sussex Stakes, I don't know if we will take on the colts but there are all the Group Ones and she is well entered up." Brittain said: "Today we were beaten by a better horse, but that's life - she has run right up to what I expected. She's a very good filly, she's lost nothing in defeat and she will probably go on to the Prix Rothschild at Deauville." Rider Joseph O'Brien said of Peace Burg: "She ran a blinder, she is a lovely filly and very versatile."

Ascot, 11 July 2014
3.05, second race
Having sustained a slight cut to his right fore, the winner LOUIE DE PALMA, trained by Clive Cox and ridden by Ryan Tate, was not unsaddled in the Winners Enclosure on the advice of the Veterinary Officer.
3.40, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference on the run to the line. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, HASSLE (IRE), ridden by Adam Kirby, had shifted sharply right-handed after he had pulled his whip through to his left hand and interfered with ALCAEUS, placed second, ridden by Luke Morris who then interfered with GLENARD, placed third, ridden by George Baker. They found the interference was accidental and had not improved HASSLE (IRE)’s placing. Taking into account that HASSLE (IRE) appeared to be travelling the better at the time of the interference and was holding ALCAEUS at the line, they ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, HASSLE (IRE), trained by Clive Cox, compared with its previous run at Chester on 31 May 2014 where the gelding finished sixth of ten, beaten by some 7 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding was better suited by a galloping track. They ordered HASSLE (IRE) to be routine tested.
4.15, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference on the run to the line. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, ARABIAN COMET (IRE), ridden by Jimmy Fortune, had interfered with KIKONGA, placed second, ridden by Adam Kirby. The Stewards found Fortune in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift left-handed away from the whip without taking corrective action. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.
The Starter reported that NULLARBOR SKY (IRE), trained by Lucy Wadham, refused to enter the stalls. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
5.50, seventh race The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Ryan Tate, the rider of UNISON (IRE) from approaching two furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Tate for 13 days as follows: Friday 25, Saturday 26, Sunday 27, Monday 28, Tuesday 29, Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 July and Friday 1, Saturday 2, Sunday 3, Monday 4, Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 August 2014.

York, 11 July 2014
1.50, first race
The Stewards noted that TOHFA (IRE), placed fourth and HENLEY, placed third, had both interfered with SPEND A PENNY (IRE), unplaced, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved either horses’ placing.
2.20, second race
The Stewards noted that Pat Dobbs, the rider of INDIGNANT, placed third, struck JOYEUSE, placed second, across the nose with the whip approaching the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
3.30, fourth race
The Stewards noted that WHISPERING WARRIOR (IRE), placed third, and ITLAAQ, unplaced, had both interfered with SAVED BY THE BELL (IRE), unplaced, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved WHISPERING WARRIOR (IRE)’s placing.
11/07/2014
Chester, 11 July 2014
6.15, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Miss J McLernon, the rider of OUR BOY JACK (IRE), unplaced, from one and a half furlongs out. Having heard her evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found her in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that she used her whip when out of contention. The Stewards suspended Miss McLernon for 5 days to be notified by the Stewards of the British Horseracing Authority.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Miss L Wilson, the rider of the winner, MY SINGLE MALT (IRE), in the final furlong. Having heard her evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found her in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that she used her whip in the incorrect place. The Stewards suspended Miss Wilson for 2 days to be notified by the Stewards of the British Horseracing Authority.
6.45, second race
The Stewards noted that SPORTLOBSTER (IRE), placed fourth, had interfered with JUST MARION (IRE), unplaced, shortly after the start, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved SPORTLOBSTER (IRE)’s placing.
The Starter reported that JUST MARION (IRE), trained by David Evans, was unruly in the stalls. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.

Connections have confirmed the retirement of The Fugue having she sustained an injury during the Eclipse at Sandown. The Fugue has been retired after sustaining an injury at Sandown John Gosden's brilliant mare The Fugue has run her last race due to injury. "She did something to herself in the race and it explains why she was so under par. "She lost nothing in defeat and she's filly that will always be close to my heart. "She was all about pace - turn of foot, travel and pace. "She always needed an uninterrupted run and sometimes things didn't go her way. "She was a beautiful filly to ride, but it was always a fine line between getting it very right and getting it wrong with her. "On her day, she was awesome. She was only out of the first three four times. "She ran in America and has taken me all over the world. "I'll never forget her, that's for sure."

Ratings experts Timeform have Slade Power and Sole Power at the head of affairs in Saturday's July Cup field. Slade Power: Comes out top-rated on Timeform's figures The Edward Lynam-trained pair secured a famous sprint double at last month's Royal Ascot meeting, with Sole Power winning the King’s Stand on Tuesday before Slade Power followed suit for the same connections in the Diamond Jubilee on the final day. Slade Power tops Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings for the Darley July Cup and handicapper Andrew Mealor is expecting him to come out ahead of his stablemate. Mealor said: "Sole Power is still going strong at the age of seven and showed a tremendous turn of foot to land the King’s Stand for the second successive year, but the trip is clearly a concern, with all nine of his career wins gained over five furlongs. "Slade Power, on the other hand, has done most of his winning over Saturday’s distance and is clearly the one they all have to beat having posted some of the best sprint performances in Europe in recent years." Back Timeform top-rated Slade Power for July Cup glory! Kevin Ryan’s Hot Streak and Roger Varian’s Aljamaaheer head the home defence and will be aiming to improve on their respective showings at Royal Ascot. Mealor said: "Hot Streak wasn’t in quite the same form in the King’s Stand as when an impressive winner of the Temple, but the step back up to six furlongs is the bigger concern for one who looks all speed. "Aljamaaheer could manage only third behind Slade Power at Ascot, but the stiff finish at Newmarket should suit his running style and he’s expected to be in the mix again." The other interesting contender according to Timeform is the Spanish-trained Noozhoh Canarias, who finished sixth in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket when last seen. Mealor said: "Noozhoh Canarias ultimately failed to stay in the Guineas, but he showed plenty of zest racing in front for a long way and it’s no surprise to see him dropping in trip. "He was runner-up in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp last year and remains with potential." View from connections ahead of the 666bet Bunbury Cup at Newmarket on Saturday. Ayaar is fancied to give a good account in the Bunbury Cup Luca Cumani teams up with Frankie Dettori once more as Ayaar goes for glory in the 666bet Bunbury Cup at Newmarket. The two Italians go way back with Dettori first making his name in the UK as an apprentice for Cumani. Their association has been renewed now due to Dettori's link up with Al Shaqab Racing, who own Ayaar, one of the favourites for the famous handicap. He has run well in each of his three starts for Cumani since switching from the care of Mick Channon and drops back to this seven-furlong trip after finishing fifth over a mile in the Royal Hunt Cup. "Frankie and I have always got on well, but when he was with Godolphin he didn't take many outside rides," Cumani said. "He knows Ayaar well and I don't think that he will need any riding instructions. "He was fairly unlucky at Ascot. It's difficult to say where he would have finished but he would probably have been challenging for one of the first three places, that's certainly what Frankie thought. "It has always been the plan to run in this race and originally I thought that his rating would guarantee him a place in the field. In the end we have had to sweat over it and have been lucky to sneak in at the very foot of the weights. "These races are not just a straightforward equation (of what weight you carry). You need a lot of luck in running and a lot depends on how the race develops. "I think Ayaar is just as good at this trip as over a mile. He ran a very good race beforehand in the Victoria Cup. "He is a very straightforward horse, who is easy to train and is a pleasure to have around. "He has done well since Ascot." Ante-post favourite for the race has been Roger Varian's Horsted Keynes after his luckless run in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, but the recent rain at Newmarket has placed his participation in doubt. "Horsted Keynes is a progressive horse - he ran a great race at Ascot and is a four-year-old on the up," the trainer told www.varianstabes.com"I will speak to his owners, but at this stage I would say he is an unlikely runner unless the ground dries out considerably." Jamie Osborne offered similar sentiments for Hunt Cup winner Field Of Dream, who also won this race 12 months ago. "We could have done without the rain and he wouldn't be a certain runner to be honest," he said. "We'll see how it rides on Friday and take a view in the morning. "We could leave him until the International at Ascot in a fortnight and at this stage I'd say that is what we'll probably do. "It could dry out quickly, though, so we won't do anything hasty." Andrew Balding believes Absolutely So, who was a big disappointment when a major gamble for the Wokingham, will be suited by softer conditions, although stablemate Zanetto could be a doubt due to the ground. "I was glad it rained, he's got decent form on soft ground," said Balding. "He's in good nick but was a major disappointment at Ascot, but that was because of the fast ground we think. "I've no idea why he was so well backed there when we had major reservations about the ground. "He's in good form and I'm hoping for a good run. "As for Zanetto, he doesn't like it soft and isn't a certain runner." Richard Hannon's Professor steps up in trip having run well with a big weight in the Wokingham at Ascot and he lines up off his old mark.

======================================= 15:50 Saturday 12th July Racing Tips - 12/07/2014
Navajo Chief will always be of interest at York but this is ultra competitive and his rise in the weights from last time may be enough to hold him. The 2 I like are both 4 year olds and both relatively progressive. Dusky Queen was staying on here last time and a winner here the time before, both over 7 furlongs and both with Ryan Moore in the saddle. She should be favourite and will get a mile at 6/1. Royal Rascal is not guaranteed to get a mile on breeding but the way he was finishing behind Almargo, especially given the time of the race, suggests he will handle the extra furlong. Any rain will not inconvenience and he has a great record here. 14/1 will not last. York 13.40 - Royal Rascal 1pt e/w York 13.40 - Dusky Queen 1pt e/w
Pace as follows for the Ascot sprint handicap…2, 3, 5, 9, 12, 19, 20. Good ground tends to favour the higher numbers on the straight track and I'd lean high but it's not certain. It's difficult to make all in the open heats and Demora has a tough task, as does the likely patiently ridden but equally progressive Robot Boy. I'll go for a couple of more experienced sorts that have dropped to handy marks. Barnet Fair wants decent ground and likes it here. He's back to his last winning mark and has the excellent Cam Hardie on top taking off 5. That's a notable booking and he's a decent price at 12/1. Worth a nibble is Racy who is just a pound higher than when 2nd in this last year and 6 didn't suit last time. He wants a proper test at 5 and should have that today at 25/1. Ascot 13.55 - Barnet Fair 1pt e/w Ascot 13.55 - Racy 0.5pt e/w
16 line up in the mile handicap but a few are sure to come out. If that affects the pace then Examiner may not get the test he needs but he is a threat on turf off this mark and will love the ground on breeding. Idea should be favourite and he too should relish some cut given how his relations went on it. He ran no race at Ascot but is better than that and the ground may have been a bit quick. Crystal Lake probably has the best form on offer given the 1st and 2nd from last time went on to win off higher marks. He was beaten 4 lengths but staying on and soft ground will be ideal on breeding. It all comes down to price though and the 16/1 about the Haggas runner is worth taking. Newmarket 14.05 - Examiner 1pt e/w
Clever Cookie loves York and Farraaj is progressive but both are high enough in the weights now. Tarikhi very nearly gets the nod but both he and Chancery, very likeable, are a similar price to Tahira and I much prefer her chances. She was a real eye catcher last on British debut over course and distance when not getting a clear run and had similar trouble last time when well supported at Chester. I'm not sure that track suited but it does here and 12/1 is a bit of a steal. The yard are flying and she'll go close with a little more luck this afternoon. York 14.55 - Tahira 1pt e/w
Favourites don't have the best record in the Bunbury Cup but it's hard not to like Abseil's claims. Headgear is a touch worrying and the ground is an unknown but it should mean we see a far better Absolutely So. I liked his chances at Ascot but felt 6 furlongs may be a touch sharp on quick ground. He was backed off the boards but this trip with some cut will be ideal and he's 10/1. Of the bigger prices Hoodna could outrun her odds and looks worth a go at 7. There's not much pace on but Ertijaal is keen going and he comes out of 17. That will suit Georgian Bay at 16/1 who I was sure would go close at Ascot. He met trouble but would never have won. However, that ground was on the quick side and he's by Oratorio out of a dam related to loads of soft ground winners. He'll go close this afternoon for a yard and jockey in fine fettle. Newmarket 15:15 - Absolutely So 1pt e/w Newmarket 15:15 - Georgian Bay 1pt e/w
I was going to leave this alone but can't believe York Glory is a 14/1 shot back in Listed company. He's likely to find it happening too quick and may just be running on for place claims but this horse went off a 7/2 shot on reappearance in Listed company for a race the yard openly said he wasn't ready for. This track over 5 can suit a pacy sort and I think the 1-2-3 could be G Force-Kingsgate Native-and 1 at double figures. That one has to be York Glory and he may just cause an upset. Spencer gets on well wit him but he is at Newmarket riding Hot Streak and Philip Makin can give him a different sort of ride. He wants quick ground and has won over course and distance so that price looks way too big. York 15.30 - York Glory 1pt e/w
Couple more for this crazy Saturday…at prices. Moviesta is never a 40/1 poke and I'll have a nibble on this Group 2 winner. The yard are in much better form now than they were a few months ago but he ran with serious credit at Newmarket behind Sole Power, shaping as if 6 was needed. He handles cut and his run last time was too bad to be true. Progressive last term, he can shake this up. I do think Slade Power will win in this ground but would not back him at 5/2 in a race where favourites don't have the best record. Cougar Mountain is tempting but very inexperienced and better ground would probably suit. Astaire was well fancied for the DIamond Jubilee and ran a decent race but was taken on up top. That may happen again with the likes of Noozhoh Canarias in the field and Hot Streak but he is a little away from them and the near side rail could help. Most importantly I think he's a better horse with cut underfoot and he has that today at 22/1. I love Noozhoh but he may just be short of Group 1 company and 11/2 is too short to find out. Newmarket 15:50 - Astaire 1pt e/w Newmarket 15:50 - Moviesta 0.5pt e/w

Bookmakers would welcome an evening Investec Derby in principle - but warn it might not be an overwhelming success if it clashed with another major sporting event.
Epsom is reported to be considering moving the premier Classic to a Saturday evening slot in a bid to reverse the declining television audience of the great race.
While the betting fraternity is keen on any initiative that boosts interest in racing, it believes a head-to-head with another big occasion would cancel out the potential benefits.
And 2015 would be one of those years as football's Champions League Final is being staged in Berlin on the same day as the Derby, Saturday, June 6.
'I would encourage them not to do it next year because it would clash with the Champions League Final. That is very late next year as it's the World Cup this year,' said David Williams of Ladbrokes.
'Racing has to understand that when it goes head-to-head with big football events it comes off second-best.
'Generally we would welcome anything that looks like reinvigorating viewing figures. If you can create a narrative in a sporting day where there is a climax later in the day, it is a good thing for betting purposes.
'We have often found if you put your feature race on later in the day there is better turnover all through the day.
'Betting firms would welcome that. However, there are going to be occasional years - and 2015 would be an absolute stellar point - where it ends up clashing with something and comes off second-best, so a lot of homework has to go into this.
'We would give a tentative thumbs up to the idea, but there are a lot of moving parts and this probably isn't going to be the panacea to solve all the ills of what is happening with summer Flat racing viewing figures.
'Racing needs to work harder than it ever has to come up with innovative ideas to restore betting interest and viewing interest. If this is one step along that road let's get it on. It has to be good news.'
Epsom's managing director Rupert Trevelyan told The Times that moving the off time of the Derby is likely to come under discussion in a move already taken by counterparts in Ireland.
The peak audience for this year's race, won by Australia, was 1.55 million, less than half that achieved by the last time the Classic was shown by the BBC.
However, any change is likely to need the approval of the Queen as the course is well aware of the influence placed on the attendance of the monarch.
'We may decide to innovate. I've never ruled anything out and staging the race later in the evening could be considered,' said Trevelyan.
'The broadcasters tell us that every hour later could be worth an extra million viewers.
'The presence of the Queen is paramount and she will be consulted before we make any such change.'

THE strength of Aidan O'Brien's bid for a fourth Darley July Cup win was in doubt on the eve of the race with the trainer expressing ground concerns for his three contenders, Due Diligence, Cougar Mountain and Fountain Of Youth.
O'Brien said on Friday: "I spoke to Joseph (O'Brien) after he rode in a couple of races at Newmarket and he described the ground as yielding. I'll be speaking to the clerk of the course Michael Prosser at 6am and will listen to what he says about the ground and weather.
"If there is no more rain we'll have decisions to make but if there is rain then it will be a lot simpler- Due Diligence and Fountain Of Youth would have to be considered very doubtful runners.
"Slow ground wouldn't be ideal for Cougar Mountain either but he has had only the one race and needs experience, so he will probably take his chance."
Aidan O'Brien is not the only trainer with ground concerns, with Eddie Lynam also set to assess conditions on Saturday morning before deciding if Sole Power will run.
The seven-year-old was a big drifter for the Group 1 on Friday - available at 16-1 with some firms - and Lynam said: "He's in Newmarket and in good form, but he isn't a soft ground horse so we'll check out conditions in the morning. Hopefully, it will dry out enough to let him take his chance."
Friday's card was run on ground officially described as soft, but Prosser holds hopes the forecast can help move underfoot conditions back to good.
He said on Friday: "It's been dry this afternoon. We are forecast a dry night and a warm and sunny morning and highs of 25C.
"All of that combined should see the ground start to move back to good. It's currently soft, and the times reflect that, but it walks like ground that should improve. We need a bit of luck. There's the odd cloud of rain around tomorrow afternoon we could do with missing." ====================================== Commands dies Commands, sire of the likes of Epaulette and Soul, has died in Australia this morning. He was 18. ================================= Soft at Newmarket Officials report a dry night at Newmarket and the going is SOFT for racing today. It is GOOD TO FIRM at both Ascot and York. 39 mins ago. ======================================
