Race Ratings Saturday, 5 July - 3.50 Sandown Coral-Eclipse Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (3yo+) 1m 2f 7y
46-022 Hillstar 14 4 9-7 Sir Michael Stoute Was a fine and slightly unlucky second in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, being held up in traffic before he was able to go after the impressive winner, Telescope. Rather doubtful that he would have won without the bad luck, but is still a very good horse in his own right and could be interesting dropped back in trip, and for a stable that has won this several times in the past 25 years. RATING 98 315-24 Mukhadram 17 5 9-7 William Haggas Finest hour to date came when a close second to Al Kazeem in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes last year, and was third to that horse next time out in last year's re- newal of this race. Has won a Group 2 since then and wasn't disgraced last time, when a marginally ham- pered fourth in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes last month. Has yet to win at this level, and despite stable being in very good form at moment, looks a candidate for the places rather than outright success. RATING 97 1223-3 Trading Leather 63 4 9-7 J S Bolger Was second in the King George VI and Queen Eliz- abeth II Stakes last year, ahead of Hillstar, but has something to find with The Fugue when beaten by that horse in the Irish Champion Stakes, despite getting 4lb from the ace filly. Ran too free on sole start of this year, in the Jockey Club Stakes, over 1m 4f, so drop back in trip here may help. Could improve for that run and connections respected in top races but, despite his apparent ability, this race looks a tougher task. RATING 96 7-2124 Tullius 18 6 9-7 Andrew Balding Won the Group 2 Sandown Mile earlier this season and has since run very well in Group 1 company; was second in the Lockinge and a very good fourth in the Queen Anne. Out of a Kingmambo mare, Tullius should get this trip on paper, and has been staying on in his races over a mile. Could be one for each- way backers at a course he goes well at. RATING 97 743-32 Verrazano 18 4 9-7 A P O ́Brien Went very close in the Queen Anne, beaten by the top-class Toronado, just lacking that horse's turn of foot when it mattered. For that reason, step up to 1m 2f is logical, but past form over further than 1m is mixed and, although stable has won this race three times in last 10 years, he looks opposable for win claims. RATING 98 03077 Zambucca 7 6 9-7 Gay Kelleway Fair third to Prince Bishop (subsequent Gr.1 win- ner) and Africa Story (won Dubai World Cup Gr.1) in Group 2 over distance in Dubai, but recent form has found him wanting at that level, having joined Kelleway two starts ago. Was soundly beaten in Listed race at Newmarket last weekend and hard to see him achieving any more than that in much better company here. RATING 90 111-82 Kingston Hill 28 3 8-10 Roger Varian Improved on last season's Group 1-winning form when second to Australia in the Epsom Derby last time, and is one of less-exposed horses in the race. Enjoys a weight concession relative to the older horses and should go well. RATING 99 11-212 Night Of Thunder 18 3 8-10 Richard Hannon Put in place by Kingman in St James's Palace Stakes last time, having beaten that horse in the 2,000 Guineas. By Dubawi out of a Galileo mare, there's a chance that he will stay the extra distance, but may be vulnerable to horses with proven form over this distance at this level. RATING 98 29-537 Somewhat 16 3 8-10 Mark Johnston Ran a game race from the front in the Gr.3 Tercentenary Stakes at Royal Ascot, but was just outpaced down at the close to finish a close seventh. Sandown's stiffer track may play to Somewhat's stamina reserves, but form to date suggests he has a bit to find in terms of outright ability with a few of his rivals here. RATING 93 21-137 True Story 28 3 8-10 Saeed bin Suroor Followed up runaway Listed win over 9f at Newmarket with a fine if slightly unfortunate third in the Gr.2 Dante Stakes at York. Winner franked that form in the French Derby, but True Story dis- appointed in the Epsom equivalent and it will be hoped that drop back in trip can help him to get is season back on track. May not have handled the course at Epsom, so not ruled out. RATING 98 311-94 War Command 18 3 8-10 A P O ́Brien Won four of his five starts last season, including the Coventry Stakes and the Dewhurst Stakes. That form has not been equalled let alone improved upon this season, and staying-on fourth in the St James's Palace Stakes offers some hope to connections for this race, but others look more solid. RATING 96 122-01 The Fugue 17 5 9-4 John Gosden Highly-talented filly who returned to winning ways last time in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot. Disappointed in this race last year, but form either side of that run, against her own sex and the colts, suggests she's the one to beat here. RATING 100 =====================================
NOTEBOOK.
The 1m ½f maiden for three-year-olds at Windsor's evening meeting last Monday looked as though it contained a few future winners. The Timothy Jarvis-trained runner-up, ABOVE THE REST , was only denied victory by a neck, by the winning sec- ond-favourite, who made all and boasted an offi- cial rating of 80 and the potential benefit of the experience from three previous races. Above The Rest followed the winner through the race and mounted a challenge from two furlongs out, getting upsides the winner a furlong later but just couldn't muster the extra pace in the last few strides to get on top. He finished second, more than three lengths clear of the third. Although this result may make life difficult for Above The Rest's connections, in terms of trying to place him in handicaps later this season, there should be an opening for him in a maiden before too long. In the same race, the John Gosden-trained BAHA finished really well after an unpromising start when slowly away from the stalls. Clearly, this debutant son of Dubawi was very green, but it was apparent that the penny was dropping for Baha as he got fur- ther into the race, and he began to get himself to- gether in the last two furlongs. Even though he had no chance of getting on terms with the first three home, he arguably finished the best of all. He looks another maiden winner in-the-waiting. The 2m 4f maiden hurdle at Uttoxeter's meeting last Sunday didn't look to have much strength in depth, but the Jim Best-trained FLASH CRASH improved on his hurdling debut the time before, finishing a fair third on watered ground that looked quick enough for him. A winner over 2m on the Flat (all-weather), he probably needs at least 2m 4f over hurdles and may be up to winning one of these if connections don't otherwise look towards the handicap route. In the 2m Class 3 handicap hurdle on the same card, the first three home could have been covered by a blanket. The Donald McCain-trained runner-up, RED MERLIN , was carrying top weight and had been out of action for two years since winning the Swinton Hurdle, and may have just needed the run. Assum- ing this race sharpens him up a touch, he could be one to watch out for in the summer's better hurdle races over 2m+. AZZA , trained by David Pipe, went very well for a long way, coming through from the rear to take it up late in the day. A slight mistake at the last didn't help, and he was just overtaken on the run-in. There will be other races for him. ===========================================
STAT WATCH.
Channel 4 viewers look set for an afternoon of quality Flat racing this Saturday, with the televised action split between Sandown's Eclipse meeting (2.05, 2.40, 3.15 and 3.50) and Haydock (2.20, 2.55 and 3.30). Top Flat jockeys of the past week (to Monday, 30 June) were Ryan Moore (most wins - 8), Richard Kingscote (7 wins and best strike rate - 37%) and George Baker (6 wins and 36%.) Of the trainers, Richard Fahey's runners were doing very well, with 13 winners and a 21% strike rate. Nobody equalled Fahey's winning tally, though fellow Yorkshire trainer Mark Johnston came close, with 12 winners and a 26% strike rate. Top strike rate of the week among those trainers to have saddled 4+ win- ners was 33%, recorded by the runners of Newmarket trainer Chris Wall. The televised action at Haydock kicks off with a 6f conditions race at 2.20. This could be a fair opportunity for the Saeed Bin Suroor- trained Soul to get his head in front, having been competing in Group races last season. He also has a 33% strike rate on the expected good-firm ground and his trainer has a current 15% strike rate (past fortnight) and 15% long term strike rate at the course (past five sea- sons.) David Elsworth is another trainer with a good record at Haydock (17%) and his charge Justice Day, could also go well, having won 2 from 6 over distance and is also drop- ping in class. The feature race of Haydock's card is surely the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks (2.55), won three times in the last 10 years by a runner of John Gosden. The Newmarket trainer has three options in this race, of which the unex- posed and unbeaten (in two starts) Sultanina looks the pick, having won the Group 3 Pinna- cle Stakes over course and distance last time. This race looks tougher, but she has claims if improving, allied to her stable's 22% strike rate in the past 14 days. Richard Hannon's Lustrous is interesting, thanks to the weight allowance she receives as a three-year-old and her second place in the Group 2 Ribbles- dale Stakes last time. She has also won on the expected ground previously. At Sandown, the Group 3 sprint at 2.05 looks well within the compass of the Willie Muir- trained Stepper Point, who wasn't beaten far by Sole Power in the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes last time. Stepper Point is also a three- time winner on the anticipated good ground and six times over distance. Another to con- sider is David Brown's Wind Fire, one of the younger runners in the race, at three years of age, and has winning form on the ground, dis- tance and at the course. The Group 1 Eclipse Stakes at 3.50 may lack a current Derby winner among its entry list, but trainer Roger Varian's Derby runner-up Kingston Hill is interesting on his best form, coupled with a useful weight allowance he re- ceives from the horses aged four years and upwards. Also, Varian's team are in good form at the moment, with a general strike of 18%. In terms of sheer ability, it's hard not to be im- pressed with The Fugue, who disappointed in this race last year but has been in great form elsewhere, including last time when winning at Royal Ascot. Her trainer John Gosden is in really good form (22%) and she has won four from six on the ground and four from seven over distance. =========================================

Prosser delighted with ground
Mother Nature is helping to provide perfect ground at Newmarket for the three-day July meeting next week.
After a wet last weekend, no watering has been needed this week and the going was described as good to firm after a sunny day on Friday.
However, rain or showers are expected from Saturday up to the day before the fixture. Should that forecast prove accurate, then clerk of the course Michael Prosser is unlikely to turn on the taps before racing begins on Thursday.
"Friday's been a beautiful day. We are due rain on Saturday, but we may not get much," said Prosser.
" Showers are still around on Sunday through to Wednesday. We should expect to receive some rain at times over those days. After that the weather forecast is looking very settled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
"Last weekend we had 20 millimetres of rain from Friday through to Sunday, so we haven't needed to do any irrigation since then.
"The ground is currently good to firm. We are in a good position to take the rain. Ideally, we would have some rain and Mother Nature will do the work for us building up to the fixture itself. If the forecast is accurate it may actually pan out that way and we do not need to irrigate at all.
"The course is in fantastic condition. We are on the stands side course, which we have not raced on since August last year. It's beautiful fresh ground."
Prosser is delighted with Thursday's entries, with the card potentially oozing quality and quantity.
"We are happy with the entries. I think there is great depth to the whole card," he said.
"We are pleased to have Romsdal (third in the Derby) entered and an intended runner in the Bahrain Trophy and delighted to have 15 entries.
"The July Stakes has got great depth as well. Richard Hannon has got a lot of entries in a race he particularly likes.
"Needless to say we are delighted with the depth to the Princess Of Wales's Stakes.
"What is fascinating is the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes. Toormore and Shifting Power have both been entered for the race along with a whole raft of three-year-old milers."
===================================== Hannon looks strong in July
Richard Hannon has a strong six-horse team to choose from for the Portland Place Properties July Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday.
Headlining the Hannon squad are Baitha Alga, the winner of the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, and Kool Kompany, who bounced back from defeat in the Coventry Stakes to win the Railway Stakes at the Curragh.
Beacon, Dougal, Ivawood and Smaih all won last time out for the Herridge stable.
Roger Varian has given an entry to his exciting Belardo, who looked potentially high class when winning his maiden at Yarmouth.
Norfolk runner-up Mind Of Madness could renew rivalry for David Brown, while Jungle Cat (Mark Johnston) and Justice Good (David Elsworth) would also command respect after finishing third and fourth respectively in the Coventry.
Aidan O'Brien can call on Chesham Stakes third Dick Whittington and The Great War, who lost his unbeaten record when a disappointing fifth at the Royal meeting behind Baitha Alga.
====================================== Leger clues likely at HQ
Investec Derby third Romsdal could stake his claim for a tilt at the Ladbrokes St Leger with a run in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket on Thursday.
The lightly raced colt ran a career-best to take minor honours behind Australia in the premier Classic at Epsom last month and trainer John Gosden sees him as a likely contender for the Doncaster showpiece in September.
Gosden has two other possibles for the Group Three event over one mile five furlongs in the progressive Forever Now and Marzocco.
Another horse with the St Leger as a possible objective is the Mark Johnston-trained Hartnell, fresh from his victory in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot.
Richard Hannon has two likeable types in Bunker and Windshear, who were also in action at the Royal meeting.
Ralph Beckett has given the Bahrain Trophy option to Lingfield Oaks Trial scorer Honor Bound, who was well beaten in the Investec Oaks.
Completing the list of 15 possibles are Automated, Impulsive Moment, Min Alemarat, Miner's Lamp, Odeon, The Corsican, Vent De Force and Wrangler.
======================================= Spring given Newmarket option
Arab Spring, emphatic winner of the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot, is among 12 horses confirmed for the Princess Of Wales's boylesports.com Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday.
Connections of the Ballymacoll Stud-owned four-year-old said the progressive colt would be upped in grade and he could get his chance in the Group Two over a mile and a half on the July Course.
His trainer Sir Michael Stoute, who has won the race nine times, has also left in Hardwicke Stakes runner-up Hillstar.
John Gosden has three possibles in Camborne, Gatewood and Sultanina, though the latter has been declared for the bet365 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock.
So, too, has James Fanshawe's Seal Of Approval.
Marco Botti is doubly represented by Dandino and Seismos ,while Saeed bin Suroor has Cavalryman and Excellent Result.
Aidan O'Brien's Festive Cheer and the Richard Hannon-trained Pether's Moon, who finished third in the Hardwicke, complete the dozen acceptors.
===================================== Cooler on the Cup trail
Luca Cumani expects Havana Cooler to step up on a promising first run of the season when he lines up for the bet365 Old Newton Cup at Haydock Park.
The four-year-old, who is also under consideration for the Ebor at York, returned from a 10-month absence to finish an eyecatching third behind Arab Spring in the Duke Of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot.
"It was a very good start seeing as it was his first run since last August. He goes there in good form. The longer straight will suit him much better," said Cumani.
De Rigueur bounced back to form after two below-par efforts this term when springing a 25-1 surprise at Newmarket five weeks ago.
The six-year-old won over two miles on this course last summer but he is just as effective over a mile and a half, as he showed on his latest start.
"We were a bit disappointed with his first two starts this year, but he had a setback at the end of last year," said trainer Marco Botti.
"He had a lot of time off and he needed a couple of runs to get back to his best. He was probably a little bit rusty. I thought the conditions at Newmarket suited him. He wants a bit of cut in the ground.
"We didn't run him last week at Newcastle (in the Northumberland Plate) as the ground was too quick, but he's capable of running a good race at that level. He won over further at Haydock last year. He's gone up a few pounds, but he is still capable of winning off his mark."
Strictly Silver could finish only eighth in this race last year, but trainer Alan Bailey felt he had valid excuses as the ground was too quick and he was drawn on the wide outside. Fresh from a win at Ayr last time, he has a better draw in stall 10 and ground conditions should be more suitable.
Bailey said: "The ground was too firm for him in this race last year. I want the ground to have the word 'good' in the description - good to firm or good to soft would be fine.
"He's very well. He was put up 5lb for his win at Ayr but he's still better off than he was in this race last year. He had a bad draw then as well. He was drawn 18, but he's in the middle this time."
Michael Bell is looking for a good effort from Wigmore Hall, especially after the seven-year-old suffered a setback just before he was unplaced behind Contributer in the Wolferton Handicap at Royal Ascot.
"He ran at Royal Ascot but he had a troubled prep," the Newmarket trainer told Betfred TV. "He pricked his foot three days before the race so he spent the three days with his foot in an ice bucket, which is not ideal.
"He's in really good form now. They dropped him 4lb and he's a dual Group One winner, so off 101 he should be very competitive.
"It's always a good race but he is a very high-class horse on his day and off this mark he should run a good race. He's got the class to carry the weight. He's flying."
==================================== Magical Murphy rides out claim
Oisin Murphy will soon have to compete against his weighing room rivals on level terms after he rode out his 3lb claim at Sandown.
It is just over 12 months since the 18-year-old apprentice celebrated the first winner of his career, and he has already wowed Australia and had a mount in the Derby as well as that incredible Ayr Gold Cup day four-timer, so he is fully expected to make the transition.
The victory came in the Noelle Reno Handicap when he finished strongly aboard the Joe Tuite-trained Presburg and pulled two and a quarter lengths ahead of senior rider James Doyle and Vital Evidence.
After reaching the 95-winner mark, which included 13 in Australia, Murphy was handed a congratulatory bottle of champagne.
"It's unbelievable," he said. "I've had the longest losing streak I've ever had, 31, and I've had six seconds. People say you'll get there and I know it's only six days as my agent's been getting me a lot of rides, but you do get a bit down. Joe does a really good job, I get on most of his, and it's a real team effort."
Kieren Fallon rides True Story in the Godolphin blue in the Coral-Eclipse and the Irishman was buoyant after a course and distance Listed success in the same silks.
Now with Saeed bin Suroor from Mark Johnston, the 5-4 favourite Windhoek was third in the Group Three Diomed Stakes at Epsom and a repeat of that form was enough to take him two and a half lengths clear in the Ambant Gala Stakes.
"I really like this horse," said Fallon. "He didn't handle Epsom and the ground was against him the time before at Goodwood. Saeed is taking him along slowly and he won very well today. He's getting better and better."
Beacon will be off to some of the bigger summer festivals after standing out in the Listed Dragon Stakes.
Richard Hannon has been keeping Highclere Thoroughbred Racing's juvenile quite low-key so far, placing him to score at Salisbury and Bath before upping him in grade. Richard Hughes' mount (2-1) stalked market rival and 15-8 favourite Mukhmal but eventually skipped four lengths clear.
Hannon said: "I actually put him in the July Stakes at Newmarket next week in case he did something like that. It's a possibility, but he'd have other options like the Molecomb and the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood."
Hannon said Norfolk Stakes winner Baitha Alga was also a "possibility" for the Portland Place Properties-sponsored Group Two next Thursday.
Brian Meehan clearly holds Irish Champions Weekend EBF Maiden Stakes winner Mustadeem in the highest regard. Second at Newbury last time to another smart Hamdan Al Maktoum prospect, Estidhkaar, he was the 2-5 favourite and scored in brisk fashion under Paul Hanagan.
"I think he's a very, very good horse, I've thought that all spring," said Meehan. "I can see him going on and on. He'll stay at seven furlongs for now and I'd thought about the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood, although I'll have to speak to connections. He has the ideal make-up of a good horse and he reminds me a lot of his sire, Arcano."
Another apprentice, Ryan Tate, continued his charmed run by landing a fourth winner of the week in the Palacegate Touch Handicap. It was a third for his boss Clive Cox, as Milly's Gift (8-1) found a gap opening up at the right time down the five-furlong chute and held off Ajjaadd by half a length.
"The horses are running so well, I should probably be paying to ride them," said Tate. "You've just got to make hay while you can."
======================================== Radiator warming to Distaff test
Radiator has her sights considerably lowered in an attempt to get off the mark for the season in the Coral Distaff at Sandown Park.
Sir Michael Stoute's filly won a Lingfield maiden by 15 lengths last September and was pitched in at Group One level in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot following a promising comeback run in a Listed heat at York,.
Although she finished only eighth of 12 runners, the daughter of Dubawi still enhanced her reputation, and connections are expecting a bold show back in Listed class.
Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for owner Khalid Abdullah, said: "She ran really well at Ascot, far better than her finishing position would suggest.
"The pace wasn't great and she had to overcome a wide draw. She was doing all the best work in the last furlong and a half and I hope this is a nice race for her."
Queen Catrine came mightily close to clinching Royal Ascot glory, going down by just a short head to Muteela in the Sandringham Handicap.
Trainer Charlie Hills said: "She came out of Ascot really well and did a nice bit of work earlier in the week. It's no easy task, but hopefully it's a nice opportunity for her.
"The ground was pretty quick at Ascot, but she also has some good form in soft ground. A drop of rain might help, but we're not too concerned."
Veiled Intrigue finished second in the Group Three Chartwell Fillies' Stakes at Lingfield on her latest appearance and lines up for Henry Candy.
John Gosden saddles runaway Salisbury maiden winner Belle D'Or, while th e Tom Dascombe-trained Crowley's Law and Mick Channon's Wee Jean complete a six-strong field.
========================================= Kingsgate on the Charge
Kingsgate Native could earn a tilt at next weekend's July Cup with a prominent showing in the Coral Charge at Sandown.
While the majority of his opponents were in action at Royal Ascot, Robert Cowell's dual Group One winner skipped the summer showpiece meeting and makes his first appearance since finishing third in the Temple Stakes at Haydock in May.
The nine-year-old is ideally suited by fast ground and Cowell is keeping his fingers crossed the rain stays away from Esher.
He said: "We missed Ascot by design as he hasn't handled it in previous years. As a result we've got a fresh horse who is absolutely raring to go. He ran well at Haydock on ground that was a bit too soft for him. If the ground is fast I'll be delighted.
" If all goes well there is every chance we could back him up again in the July Cup. He'd only be having an easy time of it, in any case, so he could well go to Newmarket if he runs well on Saturday."
Stepper Point ran a superb race at Royal Ascot to fill the runner-up spot behind Sole Power in the King's Stand Stakes.
Trainer William Muir said: "He's in good shape and ran a brilliant race at Royal Ascot, as he did in the Palace House at Newmarket earlier in the year.
"He was a neck behind Hot Streak at Newmarket and a neck ahead of him at Ascot, so the form is there for all to see. I'm very much looking forward to seeing him run again."
Roger Varian's Steps has finished a luckless fourth in the Dash at Epsom and sixth on his Group One debut in the King's Stand since winning a Listed event at Haydock at the end of May
The Newmarket handler told At The Races: "He's had a busy time of it over the last six weeks but he still seems in terrific form. He's fresh and well in himself and a stiff five furlongs at Sandown should suit him."
Extortionist has been in action for the last three Saturdays and goes again following a narrow reverse in the Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh.
Trainer Olly Stevens, who also runs outsider Green Door, said: "We've not done much with him as he's been running every week. This is the time of year he needs to run a lot, when the ground is quick. After this weekend there isn't a great deal for him until Goodwood time, so he can have a break. He loves fast ground."
Wind Fire won the Scurry Stakes over course and distance three weeks ago and returns to Sandown aiming to secure a third course success.
Trainer David Brown said: "I'm very happy with her and she seems to like the place, so we're looking forward to it. She's in good shape and ready to rumble. I'd prefer it if the ground was fast, but there's nothing we can do about the weather. I hope she'll run a big race."
Rex Imperator, Dinkum Diamond and Shamshon also feature in a wide-open contest.
==================================== Thunder faces stamina test
Night Of Thunder steps up to a mile and a quarter for the first time in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown Park.
The 2000 Guineas hero engaged in a fascinating rematch with Newmarket runner-up Kingman at Royal Ascot, but he was clear second-best in the St James's Palace Stakes.
Connections are confident the extra distance is within his compass, with his trainer Richard Hannon telling Racing UK: "He's the sort of horse you don't really notice, and I think that's what will stand him in good stead for Saturday - the fact that he is so relaxed and he's very economical when he races. He gives himself every chance of staying a mile and a quarter."
The handler went on: " At Ascot he was beaten fair and square, just beaten by a better horse on the day. I don't think you could say we were unlucky in any way. He (Kingman) is an exceptional horse, but our fellow is very good.
"Hughesie (Richard Hughes) had a job pulling him up after the line so that suggests to me he might be crying out for this mile and a quarter. My worry is that it might get a bit rough around that top bend, he's not massively experienced. We like our horse and hopefully there's more to come with this change in trip."
Kingston Hill finished a well-beaten eighth behind Night Of Thunder in the Guineas, but showed big improvement to chase home Australia in the Derby when stepped up to a mile and a half. Having missed a second clash with Australia in last weekend's Irish Derby on account of fast ground, any rain that falls at Sandown will be to his advantage as he comes back in trip.
"I'm very happy with the horse, he's in great shape. Since Epsom I've been delighted with his condition. Over a stiff 10 furlongs, the ground does become less of an issue. But what we are always afraid of if the ground is too firm is risking a horse which would jeopardise our plans later in the year, which is what we are reluctant to do," said trainer Roger Varian.
"He has a real spring in his step and I wouldn't have thought that trip will have a bearing. Possibly 10 furlongs could be his trip, but he certainly got the trip at Epsom. Sandown on a stiff track should be right up his street."
Aidan O'Brien has saddled five previous Eclipse winners in Giant's Causeway (2000), Hawk Wing (2002), Oratorio (2005), Mount Nelson (2008) and So You Think (2011). This year the Ballydoyle team are represented by American import Verrazano, who steps up in trip having finished second in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot, and War Command, who was behind Night Of Thunder at Newmarket and at Ascot.
O'Brien said: "We're very happy with War Command and Verrazano and think they are progressing well."
Another intriguing challenger for Ireland is Trading Leather, who runs in the Godolphin blue for trainer Jim Bolger. Last year's Irish Derby winner suffered an odds-on reverse on his seasonal reappearance in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket, but Bolger expects considerable improvement.
He said: "He is in good form, I'm very happy with him. He was too fresh the last day, but he's fine now. When he dropped in they pulled up in front and it was just a mess of a race from there. This will be a better-run race, so we're hoping for a better run. We'd be hoping that the ground stays good, if it doesn't we'll have a problem. It looks a race to savour."
======================================== Fallon keeping the faith in Story
Kieren Fallon is keeping the faith with True Story as he gets another chance to live up to his tall reputation in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.
Saeed bin Suroor's colt looked a potential world-beater when annihilating his opponents in Newmarket's Feilden Stakes in April, after which it was revealed Fallon was to become an integral part of the Godolphin team.
The six-times champion jockey partnered True Story for the first time as an odds-on favourite for the Dante Stakes at York, where he came up short in third, and he then finished a moderate seventh in the Derby. C onnections reach for the visor this weekend.
Speaking at Sandown on Friday, where he scored over the Eclipse course and distance, Fallon said: " He just didn't pick the bridle up in the Derby and the ground was against him at York. The visor should help him relax and hopefully he'll show his true colours.
"It's a very good race. It'll be tough to beat The Fugue, she's one of the best fillies of recent years, if not the best, and Night Of Thunder is the Guineas winner. Then you've got the O'Brien camp, and he doesn't take horses over for fun. It'll be a very good race, it won't be boring. Good horses excite you. I do think this is a good horse."
John Gosden's multiple Group One winner The Fugue rightly takes top billing following a brilliant display in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot a little under three weeks ago.
Her big-race jockey is William Buick and he wrote in his At The Races blog: "Last Saturday I was looking for some rain at Newmarket and this weekend it's the complete opposite because I'll be one happy man if it stays dry at Sandown.
"That would mean that the best filly I've ever ridden would have the ideal conditions to win the Eclipse and continue her march through the best middle-distance races of the season.
"A year ago she disappointed in this race but 12 months on she's a completely different animal. Back then she was coming in off a defeat in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, this time she not only won it but broke the track record in the process.
"Everyone who follows racing knows that we've had some highs and lows together including some narrow defeats and some storming wins, but I honestly feel this is now her time.
" She showed at Ascot that she has improved physically and off a strong pace is extremely effective over what is her perfect trip, 10 furlongs. She stays 12 (furlongs) OK but everything seems to lock on for her when the conditions are right over a mile and a quarter - and those conditions are good fast ground in a well-run race."

Ryan Moore believes that Royal Ascot winner The Fugue is a very worthy favourite for Saturday's Eclipse and here the Betfair Ambassador explains why, in his mind, the brilliant mare should be a lot shorter in the betting than she currently is...
I will keep this simple.
The Coral-Eclipse looks an easier race than The Fugue won at Royal Ascot - I think Magician and Treve, the horses that she beat in such a dismissive manner in the Prince Of Wales's, would probably make up the first three in the betting here if they lined up - and, if she runs up to that level of form again, then I think she is just about an odds-on chance to win this (currently 3.5 on Betfair).
That maybe an extreme view but I would expect her to win this race five or six times out of 10.
After all, she has 7lb in hand of this field, for starters, and 1m2f on fast ground - and obviously the amount of rain they get tomorrow will be key to the chances of some horses in here, so keep an eye on the weather - in a strongly-run race is what she wants.
But there is a big but, as there always tends to be in horseracing. And it isn't the fact that she disappointed in this race last year, which doesn't overly-concern me, or ran below par in Dubai.
The big question mark for her is whether she will get the run of the race, as she is drawn in one and this could be a very tactical and messy race.
A lot of horses will want to get prominent from their outside draws here, and The Fugue could find herself in midfield or worse early on with a lot of horses in front of her, including one of whom shouldn't be in the race, who could prove troublesome when dropping back.
Luck and tactics could play a huge role here. But, with a clear passage, then I honestly can see only one winner, as The Fugue really did look the part at Royal Ascot.
Stamina is an unknown for my mount Verrazano, or a known depending on how you look at his attempts at 1m2f in the States. Some may take the view that he doesn't stay, and they certainly won't be hanging around here.
But he improved a lot from his Newbury run to Ascot, and to get within ¾ length of even a ring-rusty Toronado over a mile was a pretty good effort.
If Aidan has brought him on again - and he knows what it takes to ready them for this race - then we will see. I guess that we will only find out on Saturday if Verrazano does stay this trip in this class.
And it is a similar story with War Command, who may just have been campaigned with this race in mind, as well. He ran an improved race when fourth in the St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot last time and could appreciate this longer trip, even if his breeding suggests it is not certain to.
This race will be informative as it will hopefully tell us where the 3yos sit in the big picture this season. I hope that the weather allows Kingston Hill to take his chance, as I think he probably didn't get the credit deserved for his second to Australia in the Derby.
Travelling to Ireland last week was probably not an ideal preparation but I like the horse, and you certainly can't rule out Guineas winner Night Of Thunder, as he was obviously beaten by an exceptional miler at Ascot last time. But I'll be honest. He didn't strike me as a 1m2f horse when I rode him in the Greenham. He has the talent to figure though, we know that much.
Tullius surely won't be good enough and I think you have to be pretty forgiving to give True Story another chance in this class. But if The Fugue doesn't fire, for whatever reason, then I give Mukhadram and Trading Leather fair shouts at what look big prices to me.
I don't think Mukhadram ran up to his best at Ascot last time and I can see last year's third competing for the places again, and also Trading Leather.
Ignore his reappearance effort - where he pulled his chance away - and you are left with an Irish Derby winner who went on to finish second in a King George and a Juddmonte before finishing third to The Fugue and Al Kazeem in the Irish Champion.

Sandown Park, 4 July 2014
2.00, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry into two possible incidents of interference.
In the first incident approaching the furlong marker having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that TRADER JACK, placed fourth, ridden by Philip Prince, had interfered with TAGULA NIGHT (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Ryan Moore. The Stewards found Prince in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he manoeuvred right. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Friday 18 and Saturday 19 July 2014.
In the second incident inside the final furlong having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that AJJAADD (USA), placed second, ridden by William Twiston-Davies, had interfered with JUDGE ‘N JURY, unplaced, ridden by Kieran Shoemark who then interfered with NEW FFOREST, unplaced, ridden by Oisin Murphy. They found the interference was accidental.

Doncaster, 4 July 2014
3.25, third race
The Starter reported that MAMBO FLYER, trained by David C Griffiths, was unruly in the stalls and withdrawn. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and he was informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
5.35, seventh race
The Stewards noted that LADY POPPY, drawn in stall eight, had anticipated the start and barged the gate at the same moment as the race had been started. Being satisfied that it was not caused through a faulty action of the starting stalls, they took no further action.
04/07/2014
Warwick, 4 July 2014
4.20, fifth race
Philip Prince, who was declared to ride PENALTY SCORER, had failed to arrive in time to weigh out. The Stewards found his employer, in breach of Rule (C)44.6 in that he was responsible for the riding arrangements for his apprentice jockey. They fined him £140. Permission was given for Noel Garbutt to be substituted.
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, ZEBS LAD (IRE), ridden by Steve Drowne, and trained by Ronald Harris, compared with its previous run at Bath on 6 June 2014 where the colt finished seventh of fourteen, beaten 14½ lengths. They noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that the colt has been running green in his earlier races and now appears to be improving with experience. They ordered ZEBS LAD (IRE) to be routine tested.
04/07/2014
Haydock Park, 4 July 2014
7.15, second race
The Stewards noted that PERARDUA, placed third, had interfered with CELESTIAL VISION (USA), placed fourth, inside the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved PERARDUA’s placing.
7.45, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approaching the six furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, WEE FRANKIE (IRE), ridden by Sean Levey, had interfered with SOLIDARITY, placed second, ridden by Andrew Mullen. They found the interference was accidental.
The Stewards also held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Sean Levey, the rider of the winner, WEE FRANKIE (IRE), from approximately two and a half furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Levey for 2 days as follows: Friday 18 and Saturday 19 July 2014.
04/07/2014
Beverley, 4 July 2014
7.30, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final two furlongs. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that LOUD, unplaced, ridden by Franny Norton, had interfered with DESERT CREEK (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Adrian Nicholls. The Stewards found Norton in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift right-handed. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Friday 18 July 2014.
8.00, fourth race
The Stewards noted that MARINERS MOON (IRE), placed fourth, had interfered with STREET BOSS (IRE), placed second, inside the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
8.30, fifth race
The Stewards noted that the winner, RAINFORD GLORY (IRE) and MOVING WAVES (IRE), placed third, had interfered with ENQUIRING, unplaced, inside the final two furlongs, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved RAINFORD GLORY (IRE)’s placing.
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, RAINFORD GLORY (IRE), ridden by George Chaloner and trained by Richard Fahey, compared with its previous run at Bath on 14 June 2014 where the gelding finished seventh of nine, beaten by 9 lengths. They noted the trainer’s representative could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form. =================================

View from connections ahead of Saturday's Group One Coral-Eclipse at Sandown Park. The Fugue: Trainer under no illusions John Gosden is under no illusions about the task facing The Fugue as she aims to follow up last month's Royal Ascot triumph in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown. The five-year-old clinched her fourth Group One victory with a brilliant display in the Prince of Wales's Stakes in Berkshire and is due to turn out less than three weeks later, providing ground conditions do not deteriorate. "It's only two and a half weeks since Ascot and remember that when they go and break track records, even if it looks as if they've done it easily, it's a big ask," Gosden told Betfred TV. "I always feel these races are quite concertinaed, but we are happy with her. "She wasn't well when she ran in the race last year. Going into it her blood tests and everything were perfect, but it wasn't so perfect coming out of the race. "That can happen, they can be literally incubating something and it doesn't show in any tests the day before, yet with the stress of the journey and the race it explodes. "She's won an awful lot of Group Ones since." Roger Varian "I'm very happy with the horse, he's in great shape. Since Epsom I've been delighted with his condition. He has a real spring in his step and I wouldn't have thought that the trip will have a bearing. Sandown on a stiff track should be right up his street." Roger Varian The Eclipse traditionally provides the first opportunity for top-class three-year-olds to test their powers against their elders and this year's renewal no exception. Five three-year-olds feature among the 12-strong field and Simon Marsh, racing manager for The Fugue's owners, Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber, is looking forward to seeing how they match up. Marsh said: "The filly is absolutely fine. We'll be keeping a close eye on the weather, but as long as the ground is fast she'll be there. "She's in very good form and ready to take her chance in what looks a very good race. "Night Of Thunder is a 2000 Guineas winner and Kingston Hill was second in the Epsom Derby, so it will be interesting to see how good the three-year-olds are this year, but they do look a pretty good bunch." New customers: Free matched bet up to 30 pounds Night Of Thunder engaged in a fascinating rematch with 2000 Guineas runner-up Kingman at Royal Ascot, but he was clear second best in the St James's Palace Stakes. He steps up to a mile and a quarter for the first time and connections are confident the extra distance is within his compass. Hannon told Racing UK: "He's the sort of horse you don't really notice, and I think that's what will stand him in good stead for Saturday - the fact that he is so relaxed and he's very economical when he races. "He gives himself every chance of staying a mile and a quarter. At Ascot he was beaten fair and square, just beaten by a better horse on the day. I don't think you could say we were unlucky in any way. He (Kingman) is an exceptional horse, but our fellow is very good. "Hughesie had a job pulling him up after the line so that suggests to me he might be crying out for this mile and a quarter. My worry is that it might get a bit rough around that top bend, he's not massively experienced. "We like our horse and hopefully there's more to come with this change in trip." Richard Hannon "Hughesie had a job pulling him up so that suggests to me he might be crying out for this mile and a quarter. My worry is that it might get a bit rough around that top bend but we like our horse and hopefully there's more to come with this change in trip." Richard Hannon Kingston Hill finished a well-beaten eighth behind Night Of Thunder in the Guineas, but showed big improvement to chase home Australia in the Derby when stepped up to a mile and a half. Having missed a second clash with Australia in last weekend's Irish Derby on account of fast ground, any rain that falls at Sandown will be to his advantage as he comes back in trip. "I'm very happy with the horse, he's in great shape. Since Epsom I've been delighted with his condition," said trainer Roger Varian. "Up in trip over a stiff 10 furlongs, the ground does become less of an issue. "But what we are always afraid of if the ground is too firm is risking a horse which would jeopardise our plans later in the year, which is what we are reluctant to do. "He has a real spring in his step and I wouldn't have thought that trip will have a bearing. Possibly 10 furlongs could be his trip, but he certainly got the trip at Epsom. Sandown on a stiff track should be right up his street." Aidan O'Brien has saddled five previous Eclipse winners in Giant's Causeway (2000), Hawk Wing (2002), Oratorio (2005), Mount Nelson (2008) and So You Think (2011). This year the Ballydoyle team are represented by American import Verrazano, who steps up in trip having finished second in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot, and War Command, who was behind Night Of Thunder at Newmarket and at Ascot. O'Brien said: "We're very happy with War Command and Verrazano and think they are progressing well." William Haggas "I don't think we saw the best of him at Royal Ascot and it did not really go as we had hoped. I think this Eclipse is a stronger race than last year but I also think that Mukhadram is a better horse than a year ago - he's much more mature and focused." William Haggas Another intriguing challenger for Ireland is Trading Leather, who runs in the Godolphin blue for trainer Jim Bolger. "This will be a better-run race, so we're hoping for a better run. We'd be hoping that the ground stays good, if it doesn't we'll have a problem. It looks a race to savour." Godolphin are also set to be represented by True Story who has disappointed in both the Dante Stakes and the Derby since recording an impressive victory in the Feilden Stakes. Trainer Saeed bin Suroor is hoping for a better run, telling the Godolphin website: "True Story was disappointing in the Investec Derby but I don't think that he handled the course at Epsom Downs. "I think the return to a mile and a quarter and the application of a visor will suit him better. He has worked three times with a visor and has looked more focused. "He is doing well and I have been happy with his preparation, although we wouldn't want to see much rain beforehand. It is a tough race but we will take our chance and I am hopeful that he can run well." Mukhadram has dined at the top table for the last 12 months, placing in last year's Prince of Wales's Stakes and the Eclipse, and kicked off 2014 with a tremendous run to finish second in the Dubai World Cup. He finished a creditable fourth behind The Fugue upon his return to Royal Ascot last month and trainer William Haggas feels he is capable of improvement. Haggas said: "Mukhadram seems fine. I don't think we saw the best of him at Royal Ascot but Saturday should tell us more. He ran in Dubai in March, but effectively the Prince of Wales's Stakes was his first run back and it did not really go as we had hoped. "Admittedly, he was beaten by three of the best horses around at the moment. He plugged on and in no sense was it a bad run, but we had hoped for more. "I think this Eclipse is a stronger race than last year - it has more depth and the three-year-olds seem to be a good crop. But I also think that Mukhadram is a better horse than a year ago - he's much more mature and focussed. "A lot of people are going to see what the weather does and, just like The Fugue, Mukhadram would prefer it if there was no rain."

View from connections ahead of Saturday's Coral Charge at Sandown Park Kingsgate Native is 'raring to go' Kingsgate Native could earn a tilt at next weekend's July Cup with a prominent showing in Saturday's Coral Charge at Sandown. While the majority of his Sandown opponents were in action at Royal Ascot, Robert Cowell's dual Group One winner skipped the summer showpiece meeting and makes his first appearance since finishing third in Haydock's Temple Stakes in May. The nine-year-old is ideally suited by fast ground and Cowell is keeping his fingers crossed the rain stays away from Esher. He said: "We missed Ascot by design as he hasn't handled it in previous years. As a result we've got a fresh horse who is absolutely raring to go. "He ran well at Haydock on ground that was a bit too soft for him. If the ground is fast I'll be delighted. "If all goes well there is every chance we could back him up again in the July Cup. He'd only be having an easy time of it, in any case, so he could well go to Newmarket if he runs well on Saturday." Stepper Point ran a fantastic race at Royal Ascot to fill the runner-up spot behind Sole Power in the King's Stand Stakes. I'm very much looking forward to seeing him run again." Roger Varian's Steps has finished a luckless fourth in the Dash at Epsom and sixth on his Group One debut in the King's Stand since winning a Listed event at Haydock at the end of May The Newmarket handler told At The Races: "He's had a busy time of it over the last six weeks but he still seems in terrific form. "He's fresh and well in himself and a stiff five furlongs at Sandown should suit him." Extortionist has been in action for the last three Saturdays and goes again following a narrow reverse in the Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh. Trainer Olly Stevens, who also runs outsider Green Door, said: "We've not done much with him as he's been running every week. This is the time of year he needs to run a lot when the ground is quick. "After this weekend there isn't a great deal for him until Goodwood time so he can have a break. He loves fast ground." Wind Fire won the Scurry Stakes over course and distance three weeks ago and returns to Sandown aiming to secure a third course success. Trainer David Brown said: "I'm very happy with her and she seems to like the place, so we're looking forward to it. She's in good shape and ready to rumble. "I'd prefer it if the ground was fast, but there's nothing we can do about the weather. I hope she'll run a big race." Rex Imperator, Dinkum Diamond and Shamshon also feature in a wide-open contest.

View from connections ahead of Saturday's bet365 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock Park. Sean Levey has been wasting in order to ride Lustrous Classy Italian filly Charity Line puts her unbeaten record to the test on her British debut in the bet365 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock on Saturday. The four-year-old has her first run for Newmarket-based Italian Marco Botti after winning all of her six starts when trained by his brother, Stefano. "She came with a good reputation from Italy. She is unbeaten, she won the Italian Oaks and at the end of last year she won a Group One in Rome," said Botti. "Since she arrived in England early this year she has taken a little bit of time to acclimatise and the routine. We've been happy recently with her work. "She wouldn't it too quick. Her best form has been with some give in the ground." Richard Hannon "Lustrous justified our decision to supplement her for the Ribblesdale. Three-year-olds have done well in this race in the last decade and Sean Levey has a lot of faith in the filly. He's been wasting all week to do the 8st 6lb, so, hopefully, it will prove worthwhile." Richard Hannon While Charity Line won the Italian Oaks in 2013, Talent landed the Epsom equivalent in the same year. Although she has not won since then, she was second to Leading Light in the Ladbrokes St Leger and had her first run for nine months when fifth to Cirrus Des Aigles in the Coronation Cup four weeks ago. "I think Talent has come on for her run at Epsom," said trainer Ralph Beckett. "She will need to, but I think she has and I wasn't entirely happy with the way our horses were running when she ran there. We went into a bit of a lull, as happens to all of us, but they are running better now." The sole Irish-trained filly taking her chance is We'll Go Walking, who was third to Talent's stable companion Secret Gesture in the rearranged Warwickshire Oaks at Nottingham. "We've been happy with her since her last run. She probably has to improve a little bit, but we think she's going well at home," said Murtagh. John Gosden is represented by two fillies who have yet to taste defeat. Sultanina took the Pinnacle Stakes over course and distance on her latest outing, while Pomology has been absent since winning a Group Three at Deauville last August. "Sultanina won the Group Three up there by a nose last time, she's come on greatly and has only had two runs in her life. She's a very talented filly and we're very happy with her," the Newmarket trainer told Betfred TV. "Pomology is coming back from a long lay-off. She last won in the Prix Minerve at Deauville last August but she is in good order." John Gosden "Sultanina won a Group Three up there by a nose last time, she's come on greatly and has only had two runs in her life. She's a very talented filly and we're very happy with her. Pomology is coming back from a long lay-off but she is in good order." John Gosden Silk Sari was only beaten half a length when third to Sultanina on this track five weeks ago, but trainer Luca Cumani believes she has more improvement in her. He said: "She's a nice, progressive four-year-old filly. She will have to progress further from her last run to be in the first three, but we're hopeful she might have done." Astonishing will attempt to redeem her reputation after finishing only sixth that day. "Astonishing was disappointing last time at Haydock, this is the obvious race for her but I hope she runs better than she did then," said trainer Sir Michael Stoute. The only three-year-old in the field is Lustrous, who ran a tremendous race to finish a close second behind Bracelet in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot. Trainer Richard Hannon has high hopes she can go one better. The Marlborough handler told "Lustrous justified our decision to supplement her for the Ribblesdale when running a stormer to finish second at Royal Ascot. "Three-year-olds have done well in this race in the last decade, so we feel it is worth having a go, especially as it is the owner's (Pauline Good) local track," "Sean Levey has a lot of faith in the filly and rides her every morning. He has been wasting all week to do the 8st 6lb, so, hopefully, it will prove worthwhile."

=========================================== 15:30 Saturday 5th July Racing Tips - 05/07/2014
I'm tempted by one of the 3 year olds in the Sandown sprint but fancy they may just come up short. It's worth noting that the Classic year have a good record in the race though. Green Door could come on for the run at Ascot and will appreciate rain but I want blinkers on again. Wind Fire is a course and distance winner but is badly drawn and this is tougher. Best bet is probably Steps who will relish the rain and I'm certain he and Fallon have a Group race in them. He was squeezed out at the start of the Kings Stand and, though I backed Ahtoug that day, fancy form can be reversed given the easing ground. He's a solid option at 6/1. Sandown 14.05 - Steps 1pt e/w
The shortlist for the Coral Challenge consists of Velox and Gabrial's Kaka but on the chance that the expected rain is not that bad, the latter is pick at the prices. If the rain arrives then it'll be a worry but he is surely a Group horse in a handicap and has had excuses of late. A strongly run mile will suit and I can see Frankie giving him a hold up ride which hopefully results in him being produced at the right time. It should be run to suit and he's a good bet at 10/1. Velox was to be the selection but I'm not sure he should be 6/1. He was unlucky at Epsom, when tipped up here, but was beaten at the time of interference and he's well found. Sandown 14.40 - Gabrial's Kaka 1pt e/w
Seal Of Approval will be tricky to beat if it comes up soft but I'd still rather back Sultanina at 13/2 in the Lancashire Oaks after her course and distance win in the Pinnacle Stakes. We just don't know how good she is and Gosden is good at placing these unexposed sorts in Group company. The time wasn't great last time but respectable for juicy ground and any improvement for just her 3rd start will se her go close. I like the way she battled for such an inexperienced filly last time and get the impression the trainer thinks this unbeaten 4 year old is pretty capable. Haydock 14:55 - Sultanina 1pt e/w
I hope it's not a day for favourites because I like the look of Radiator to beat Queen Catrine at Sandown in the Distaff. Charlie Hills' filly was unlucky last time and perhaps should be favourite but this is a different test to coming from the back in a big field Ascot handicap and rain is not ideal. Radiator was sent off favourite for the Oh So Sharp stakes last term, solid form though she was well beaten, and has improved with each start this year. It was a muddling Coronation Stakes but she ran well, easily finishing best from the back, and this looks plenty easier. I'm really not sure we've seen the best of her and that Lingfield romp, however long ago, suggests she has oodles of class. The yard won this last year and 7/2 is bigger than it should be. I really fancy her. Sandown 15.15 - Radiator 2pt win
Normally I wait until having been through the whole field before typing tips for a race but Quiz Mistress is going up no matter what. She is back in a handicap for the first time in nearly 2 years and is 16lb higher than her last win, though she wasn't beaten far behind Tominator on that last handicap start off 94. She has run well over course and distance before and her mark has now dropped below 100. De Sousa shows profit when riding for the yard in the last 5 years and they are going well. A strong pace looks likely and she'll get every yard at 12/1. 3 make appeal for the next choice. Havana Cooler may not want rain but will not want it too quick or he'll be outpaced. Either way 9/2 s short. Magic Hurricane won here over course and distance last month in a good time and is probably still ahead of his mark. He's 6/1 in an open race though, his toughest yet, and the 14/1 about De Rigueur is of more appeal. He is 2 form 2 here, one over course and dsiance, the other over 2 miles, and his win last time out was worth marking up given he flew from the rear off a modest pace. Stronger will suit today, as will the forecast overnight rain, and Andrea Atzeni has a good record with him. Haydock 15.30 - De Rigueur 1pt e/w Haydock 15:30 - Quiz Mistress 1pt e/w

Ryan Moore has a full book of seven rides on Eclipse day at Sandown this afternoon and here you can read the Betfair Ambassador's exclusive views on his chances of returning home with a winner or two...
13:30 Sandown - Royal Seal
Wears a hood for the first time to settle her down, as she can get a bit revved up going to the start. I rode her to win over 7f at Yarmouth in May and she found it all happening a bit too quickly for her over 5f at Newmarket last time, though she ran well enough.
But I can see a couple of negatives to her chances today. The first is that I would rather this race was over 6f on a track like this. I appreciate that may seem an odd thing to say given that she has won over 7f, especially as I think she actually will get further in time - she comes from a good family that get better, and a trip, with time - but I just think, at this stage of her career, that 6f may suit her better.
And the second is that I simply think that she is badly handicapped off a mark off 85 on what she has done on the track so far. So we are up against it in what could be a hot little handicap. I hope I am wrong, though, and obviously she is very lightly-raced.
14:05 Sandown - Extortionist
Quite a few of these in here that you would normally fancy have been drawn high, which is an obvious negative, and for that reason I think that Steps in one is probably the horse to beat. But my horse is well enough drawn in four and he has come back to his Royal Ascot-winning juvenile form on his last two starts, winning a handicap off 100 over 5f at Newmarket and then just being touched off in a Group 3 at The Curragh last time. Has form on fast and with cut, so has each-way chances.
14:40 Sandown - Russian Realm
I made no bones about the fact that I wasn't as keen on his chances as some in the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot, but he ran ok considering he was taken off his feet for a lot of the way. So the step back up to 1m will suit, he has run well over course and distance, and he won't mind what the weather has done overnight, or today, as he goes on any ground.
The problem is his handicap mark of 96, as I think that is pretty much what he is. But I don't want to be too negative, as I am drawn ok in midfield, and I suppose he has had just the eight starts, so there could be more to come from him.
15:15 Sandown - Queen Catrine
Queen Catrine is the kind of horse that bookmakers probably love. Everyone saw that she was unlucky in the Sandringham last time - though it is possible that the pace of the race flattered her a bit there - and some may be marking her down as a good thing here as a result. And she may well be, as she has Group 1 form, is clearly in good nick and is officially the best filly in the race. But I certainly wouldn't go storming in at short prices, as I think this race will actually take a bit of winning.
Belle D'Or may be only rated 83 but I liked the way that she did it at Salisbury - and we have seen with Taghrooda that her trainer is happy to fly high with his maiden winners - Radiator is a good horse who ran well at Ascot, and my filly doesn't have that much in hand on Veiled Intrigue or Crowley's Law, either. And you can't rule out Wee Jean, either. Yes, she is the most likely winner, but this is no formality.
15:50 Sandown - Verrazano
See main article
16:25 Sandown - Repeater
I have ridden him once before, and let's just say that he is not the most straightforward of horses. Not that I am giving too much away by saying that. But he has Group 2 form to his name and he comes here on the back of a good third in the Northumberland Plate last time, so he has prospects alright. Whiplash Willie ran really well when third in the Henry II last time and may be the favourite but I think that we could all be playing for places if Ascot Stakes winner Domination turns up in the same form here, as he bolted up that day.
17:00 Sandown - Gothic
This horse is another example of everyone seeing an unlucky loser - and I should have won on him at Goodwood, that much was obvious - and getting carried away with him in the betting next time, sending him off as a short-priced favourite for a competitive handicap over 1m1f here. But I just couldn't get him in a position to challenge there, as he lacks tactical speed.
Hopefully, the first-time blinkers will wake him up and the step up to 1m2f in a strongly-run race will suit, but I am not going into this race confident at all. Especially as he has run poorly twice at Sandown now. But he has the ability to figure if it all clicks. The one that I think we all have to beat in here is Prince Of Stars. I was quite taken by him when he beat me at Chester - he is a real good-looker - and I think a mark of 85 is very fair for him.

Dettori booked for Undrafted
Frankie Dettori has been booked for Wesley Ward's Darley July Cup challenger Undrafted.
Ward, who enjoyed more success at Royal Ascot last month, rates Undrafted highly and feels he is capable of running a huge race.
Undrafted is owned by American Football player Wes Welker, who will be in attendance.
Dettori's agent Ray Cochrane said: "Frankie has been booked.
"The trainer tends not to send rubbish over here so if he thinks it's got a chance then it will have.
"It's a great ride to get."
================================== Glance heads Cambridge hopes
Albany Stakes winner Cursory Glance is one of 12 fillies in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.
The Roger Varian-trained youngster beat American raider Sunset Glow at Royal Ascot to take her unbeaten record to two.
Queen Mary second and third Tiggy Wiggy and Newsletter are in line for a rematch in a race formerly known as the Cherry Hinton.
The Richard Hannon-trained Tiggy Wiggy found only Anthem Alexander too good at the Royal meeting, where she finished half a length in front of Ken Condon's Newsletter, who was a 33-1 chance on the day.
Hannon also has the Listed-placed Parsley in the mix, while there is further Irish interest in the shape of Aidan O'Brien's Curragh Group Three winner I Am Beautiful.
Sunny York (James Tate), Muraaqaba (Mark Johnston) and High Celebrity (Andre Fabre) are others with perfect records.
===================================== Nine remain in Falmouth mix
Just nine fillies remain in the mix for the Qipco Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Friday, but all of them look to be out of the top drawer.
The possibles are headed by multiple Group One winner Sky Lantern, who is expected to strip much fitter than on her reappearance in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot.
That race was won by Sir Michael Stoute's Integral, and she was reported as being on target for this event last week.
Clive Brittain's Rizeena bounced right back to her best in the Coronation Stakes at Ascot and could now tackle her elders.
Purr Along could step back up to Group One company for a second stab at the Falmouth.
The filly was last of four behind Elusive Kate in the one-mile Group One last summer when trained by William Muir and could be given another crack by her new handler Johnny Murtagh.
She has already repaid her connections' faith in two starts this year, winning the Group Three Lanwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh on her reappearance and finishing a good third behind Integral at Royal Ascot.
"She's doing well and we've left her in the Falmouth. We'll have a look at the race and make a decision early next week," said County Kildare-based Murtagh.
"She's in good form and ran well at Ascot."
The Charlie Hills-trained duo of Just The Judge and Kiyoshi, last year's Fillies' Mile winner Certify, Aidan O'Brien's Peace Burg and Mark Johnston's Ascot winner Muteela could all also run.
================================== Elsworth thinks big with Justice
David Elsworth is considering a tilt at next week's July Cup with Justice Day following an authoritative performance in the bet365.com Conditions Stakes at Haydock Park.
Down the field in the King's Stand at Royal Ascot last month, the three-year-old was a 5-1 shot for this far less taxing assignment.
Justice Day moved through the six-furlong contest with panache and picked up well for Graham Lee to seal the deal by a length and three-quarters from Morache Music.
Barkston Ash ran with credit in third, but Richard Hannon's 4-1 favourite Annunciation was disappointing in eighth.
Elsworth said: "He's an alright horse and ran to a pretty good level at Ascot when the ground was plenty fast enough for him, and it was a Group One, of course.
"I think we can aspire to those levels. He was third in the Middle Park last year and I think the three-year-olds catch up with the older horses in the second half of the season.
"He's in everything, including the July Cup next week, and if it poured down all week I might just run him. He's obviously in great form at the moment and when the ball's at your feet, kick it."
War Spirit got favourite-backers off to the perfect start in the sunshine by completing a hat-trick in the Casino At bet365.com Handicap.
The Hannon-trained three-year-old looked fairly ordinary after being beaten on his first four competitive starts, but the decision to drop back to five furlongs at Doncaster early last month proved a masterstroke.
Following a decisive victory on Town Moor, the roan gelding had little trouble following up at Newmarket a couple of weeks later and he was a 5-2 market leader for his latest assignment.
Given plenty of time to find his stride on the far side of the track by Sean Levey, War Spirit closed in on the leaders entering the final furlong and skipped clear late on to land the spoils by a length and a quarter. Distant Past filled the runner-up spot.
"We ran him over seven furlongs to start with and I rode him over seven at Kempton. I came back saying he has loads of speed and a straight five furlongs would suit," said Levey.
"Hopefully he can go on now and win a few more. We're racing on fresh ground today and it's good to soft at worst."
The Swaziland-born rider struck again for the same yard as 7-2 shot Divine Law edged the bet365.com Nursery.
======================================== Atzeni strikes on De Rigueur
Andrea Atzeni's enforced trip to Haydock Park paid off handsomely as the talented rider steered De Rigueur to a lucrative victory in the bet365 Old Newton Cup.
The young Italian was likely heartbroken inside when told earlier this week that his services were required on Merseyside by retaining owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum, a surprise call given it meant he would have to concede the ride on Coral-Eclipse contender Kingston Hill to compatriot Frankie Dettori.
Missing out on partnering a horse who gave him his first British Group One victory in last year's Racing Post Trophy and took him to the runner-up spot in the Epsom Derby was surely tough for the uncomplaining Atzeni, but while Kingston Hill failed to land a telling blow at Sandown, Atzeni was smiling in the Haydock sunshine after De Rigueur's battling effort.
Unbeaten in two previous visits to the track and a winner at Newmarket on his latest start, Marco Botti's six-year-old had solid credentials for the £100,000 contest and was among the leading contenders at 9-1.
It was not easy viewing for his supporters as De Rigueur had to be ridden along at various stages, but his stamina kicked in late on in the mile-and-a-half contest and he showed plenty of guts to fight off the giant Pallasator by a neck. Magic Hurricane was right on their heels in third.
Atzeni said: "He's a horse that needs dropping out, so the (high) draw wasn't a problem. He's one of those you don't want to get to the front too soon on, so it worked out perfectly."
Botti added: "I thought it was a very good performance. Andrea said the ground has dried out a bit, he was feeling it and for that reason he didn't travel as well as he usually does.
"He's a horse that doesn't want to hit the front too soon and he doesn't win by far, but he finished off his race well and we're delighted. A race like the Ebor could be the target for him. He's well handicapped, but we'll see how much he goes up after today."
The afternoon got even better for Atzeni as 5-6 jolly Roseburg, trained by Luca Cumani and the aforementioned Sheikh's only runner on the card, justified odds-on favouritism in the concluding bet365.com Handicap.
"He settled well and travelled well and he's going the right way. Hopefully we'll have a bit more fun with him," said the jockey.
========================================= Velox proves up to the challenge
Velox made up for a luckless run at Epsom with a dominant display in the valuable Coral Challenge at Sandown Park.
The pace up front in the mile contest was relentless, set by Ifwecan and St Moritz, with young Cam Hardie content to sit in the middle of the pack on the 11-2 winner.
To his credit Ifwecan showed a great attitude and was still in front entering the final furlong, but the gaps opened up for Luca Cumani's four-year-old at just the right time after he had momentarily hit traffic, and he burst clear to win by three lengths.
Ifwecan kept going for second place, with Gabrial's Kaka staying on from the rear for third.
It was a 20th win of the season for 5lb claimer Hardie, who said: " I was a bit lucky as I had to wait for the gaps to appear, but I knew I had a lot of horse under me. He quickened up nicely and he's won this like a very good horse.
"It's my first ride for the stable so I'd like to thank Mr Cumani. He was unlucky last time at Epsom. He kept on galloping. Hopefully I can keep on going.
"I'm very lucky, I've got a very good agent and a good family behind me and I'm with a very good stable at the Hannons."
Matt Cumani, assistant to his father, said: "We've thought there was a big race in this horse for a while and it's fantastic to see him do it. I thought the jockey gave him a fantastic ride."
Ryan Tate continued his fine run of form as he guided 5-2 joint-favourite Raise Your Gaze to an emphatic success in the Download The Coral App Handicap for trainer Clive Cox.
=================================== Belle pounces to land Distaff
John Gosden enjoyed a great 10 minutes as Belle D'Or got up in the final stride to land the Coral Distaff at Sandown Park just after Pomology and Sultanina gave him a one-two in the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock.
Richard Hughes appeared to have nicked it from the front on Mick Channon's Wee Jean in the Listed contest as the challenge of Crowley's Law flattened out, with Belle D'Or apparently struggling in third.
But the eventual winner (11-2) began to make ground in the final furlong under William Buick and though it looked as if the post would come too soon, she stuck her neck a out and after an agonising wait as the judge looked at the photo, Gosden's team were able to celebrate.
Buick said: "We went very steady and quickened up, I knew what was going to happen but I nursed her into it and she came good at the end. I'm just pleased she got her head in front. I thought she'd won."
Gosden added: "It was only her third race and she was a little green at the bottom of the straight. When Hughesie quickened you could see her thinking 'what am I meant to do?'. She changed her legs inside the last furlong and galloped out well.
"William said to stay at a mile for now, that's fantastic to win a Listed and we'll have to look at taking her elders on now."
Havana Beat (11-4) came out on top in a pulsating finish to the Coral Marathon, which was reduced to just four runners.
Domination went straight to the front and Fran Berry injected a bit of pace with half a mile to run, all the while tracked by David Probert on the eventual winner, who had last been seen finishing eighth in the Gold Cup.
Havana Beat was still moving powerfully two furlongs out but Repeater, who had been slowly away, crept into it as Ryan Moore went for a dream gap on the far rail. It was a terrific tussle from there, with Havana Beat just having the call by a head.
Trainer Andrew Balding said: "He'll probably go to the Ebor next."
================================== Extortionist in victory charge
Ryan Moore delivered progressive young sprinter Extortionist with a telling run to capture the Group Three Coral Charge at Sandown Park.
Winner of a Newmarket handicap last month and subsequently just touched off in a Group Three event at the Curragh, the three-year-old was sent off a 13-2 chance and sat in midfield as H ay Chewed blitzed away down the stands rail.
As the pack closed in the veteran Kingsgate Native played his hand, but Moore had the move well covered and last year's Windsor Castle Stakes winner produced a splendid turn of foot to finish a length and a quarter in front.
Trainer Olly Stevens said: "He's won twice and finished second once in the space of a fortnight. I thought this was a tough ask, but he seems to be getting better with racing.
"I won't make any rash decisions and he needs quick ground, but we were thinking of Goodwood next (King George Stakes)."
Moore was completing a double after the commanding victory of Sir Michael Stoute's Royal Seal.
With a Yarmouth maiden win from just four previous runs, the Cheveley Park Stud-bred filly (13-2) looked open to plenty more improvement as she quickened two lengths clear of the staying-on Mutawathea in the Gary Tuck Memorial Handicap.
The trainer said: "She's a progressive filly, but she has taken time to get it together. She's in a very valuable race over six furlongs at Newmarket next Friday (Betfred Mobile Heritage Handicap). We'll see how she comes out of this, but she could well go."
=================================== Gosden dominates in Oaks
John Gosden dominated the bet365 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock Park as Pomology beat stablemate Sultanina.
Both fillies were unbeaten going into the Group Two race, but all Pomology's three wins came last season, while Sultanina had not run at two and three yet won both her races this year.
The result looked signed and sealed some way out, as Pomology (8-1) was cantering all over the opposition two furlongs from home and eased into the lead before being pushed out by Graham Lee to beat Sultanina by two and a quarter lengths.
Last year's Investec Oaks winner Talent ran much more like her old self in third, but the heavily-backed Seal Of Approval was in last place early on under Hayley Turner and never picked up the bridle at any stage, finishing well beaten.
Gosden said: "She's a nice filly, she hadn't been working particularly well but it's different on the track sometimes. The other filly found the ground a bit sticky for her, they were labouring in it a bit."
Lee, riding his first Group Two winner as a Flat jockey, said: "That was nice. I spoke to Mr Gosden earlier, he told me to ride her as I found her and if the ground was too soft not to be too hard on her on her first run back.
"She gave me a great ride, she kept it simple - she jumped, travelled and lengthened. It's nice to sit on a horse of that calibre."
Normandie Stud owner Philippa Cooper said of the runner-up: "I'm delighted in defeat and thrilled the stable has had a one-two. Robert (Havlin) said she has improved since her last run here and to finish second in a Group Two, we can only be delighted.
"I'll leave it up to the trainer to decide where she goes next. He has so many good fillies, we have to worry about others in the yard as much as the rest of the opposition!"
Ralph Beckett said of Talent: "I am not going to come up with any excuses, I thought the ride was fine and I thought the way the race panned out was fine. She just galloped away one-paced. We will see what we are going to do next."

Just about the unluckiest of top-class horses finally gained his Group One reward as Mukhadram slipped away from his opponents in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.
Trainer William Haggas could not hide his delight at this defining moment of the five-year-old's career after near-misses in events such as the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, Dubai World Cup and this very race 12 months ago, when he was hampered by the ultimately successful Al Kazeem.
Mukhadram often attempts to dominate from the outset, but he had Somewhat to carry out the leg-work this time and Paul Hanagan found the race unfolding perfectly as he kicked clear with more than two furlongs remaining and still retained a two-length advantage over Trading Leather by the post.
It proved a little too wet for 5-2 favourite The Fugue, who salvaged sixth place having been last turning for home, while it was perhaps not wet enough, and not far enough, for Investec Derby runner-up Kingston Hill, who could not quite make up the ground to catch Somewhat in third.
Haggas, who wants to make Mukhadram (14-1) into a blue-chip stallion prospect for owner-breeder Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to bits, he so deserves to win a good race. He was unlucky last year. He probably wasn't the winner, but the winner lay over him and it cost him second. He ran great in the Prince Of Wales's again (fourth behind The Fugue) and we thought he was stronger this year.
"We've always believed in him and I'm thrilled for everyone he's gone and done it today. I thought that looked pretty straightforward.
"He has stamina in his pedigree, he's a resolute galloper, and I'd like to ask Sheikh Hamdan if I can run him in the King George. It's three weeks away, and we'll enjoy the moment first. I have always wanted to have a go at the King George, I thought if he was going to improve a bit it would be at a mile and a half."
Hanagan added: "If there is a horse that deserves that, it's him. He's been second in the Dubai World Cup and could have been second in this last year, I'm just so pleased for the horse. Everyone at the yard has done a fantastic job with him, I'm chuffed to bits. I could put my children on him, he's A1, a pleasure."
Jim Bolger was much more pleased with the run of last year's Irish Derby winner Trading Leather after he was beaten in a messy affair at the Newmarket Guineas meeting. The first two could now meet again at Ascot.
He said: "I'm delighted with his effort after the Newmarket debacle. The winner wasn't stopping, but he was happy where he was. We'll look at the King George and later on the Arc and the Irish Champion Stakes."
The Fugue's rider William Buick pointed firmly to ground conditions as a reason for her effort. He said: "The ground has become loose and she doesn't like it, simple as that. It was that last shower that did it. She ran well in defeat and she'll be back."
Roger Varian had been pacing the course beforehand, having pulled Kingston Hill out of last week's Irish Derby, and left it very late before giving the go-ahead.
The trainer said: "Frankie (Dettori) thought he felt like a mile and a half horse who was running a very good race at a mile and a quarter. The ground was fine, I don't think that was an excuse. All in all it's not a win, but he has run another fine race.
"The King George hasn't been mentioned at the moment. At some point we are going to have to focus on his autumn campaign, that's where his strengths will lie on the ground, but he'll tell us where we need to go next."
The 2000 Guineas winner Night Of Thunder was another disappointment, never getting into the race and beating only Verrazano home.

Albany Stakes winner Cursory Glance is one of 12 fillies in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket on Friday. Cursory Glance could run in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket on Friday. t The Roger Varian-trained youngster beat American raider Sunset Glow at Royal Ascot to take her unbeaten record to two. Sunny York (James Tate), Muraaqaba (Mark Johnston) and High Celebrity (Andre Fabre) are others with perfect records

Newmarket trainer Hugo Palmer believes that there's more to come from his exciting juvenile Aktabantay this season. Aktabantay has a bright future The Oasis Dream colt only missed out narrowly at Newmarket on debut before suffering a surprise reverse when long odds-on at Nottingham. There was no mistake on his third start at Newcastle, however, and Palmer was delighted with the performance of his youngster. "Aktabantay confirmed the promise of his previous runs and he won very nicely at Newcastle last Thursday," he told his exclusive blog on stanjames.com. "From the looks that the other trainers gave me as he returned, I think it was probably quite a good race. I think John Quinn fancied his and Michael Dods fancied his and we won it very well. "He's now run three times without the jockey ever having to pick the stick up on him which is nice and we're very excited about him. "The winner of that race last year, Good Old Boy Lukey, went on to win the Superlative Stakes on its next start. That just disproves what some people say about giving a horse a bad name and expecting it to be any good because I can't think of a worse name than Good Old Boy Lukey. "We'll enter him in the Superlative on Monday morning and he'll work on Tuesday and we'll have a think about it. He's not certain to go there but there's quite a chance he will. But I'm delighted he won and that he won well." Short Squeeze flew the flag for the stable last year, winning three on the bounce and rising from a mark of 75 to a high of 106. Things haven't fallen right for him in two starts this season but Palmer hasn't lost faith in his four-year-old despite his midfield finish at Windsor. "If he had run in the first race of the day on the good ground that Home Of The Brave ran on, he would have been absolutely fine and I'm certain he'd have won because he travelled like the best horse in the race and when Jimmy (Fortune) let him go to go and win his race he couldn't pick up on the ground which had become very loose. "Loose ground is horrible ground, it's not necessarily soft ground, it's just loose and uncomfortable as you can imagine. A lot of horses don't like it and Jimmy said afterwards that there were a lot of soft ground horses that won't like the ground today. "Short Squeeze will have a little break and we'll look at a race for him at Goodwood. "I think Goodwood will suit him and I've been debating with the owners over whether we run him over seven furlongs or a mile. I'd like to try him over seven as he's got bags of speed. He can be a little bit free in the early part of his races and they'll go faster over seven. And Jimmy did comment after Windsor saying, "I'm just not certain the horse stays a mile." "Someone reading that might think that silly as he's won three races over a mile but that was winning off 75, 82 and 94. It's one thing winning handicaps when you're handicapped to win but when you get up to weight-for-age, level weights racing and taking on stakes horses, that's where you find out whether horses genuinely stay and perhaps at that level maybe he is more of a seven-furlong horse so we'll certainly think about trying that," he added.

Just nine fillies remain in the mix for the QIPCO Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Friday but all are top notch. Integral and Sky Lantern could clash in the Falmouth The possibles are headed by multiple Group One winner Sky Lantern, who is expected to strip much fitter than on her reappearance in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot. That race was won by Sir Michael Stoute's Integral, and she was reported as being on target for this last week. Clive Brittain's Rizeena bounced right back to her best in the Coronation Stakes at Ascot and could now tackle her elders. Purr Along could step back up to Group One company for a second stab at the Falmouth. The filly was last of four behind Elusive Katie in the one-mile Group One last summer when trained by William Muir and could be given another crack by her new handler Johnny Murtagh. She has already repaid her connections faith in two starts this year, winning the Group Three Lanwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh on her reappearance and finishing a good third behind Integral at Royal Ascot. "She's doing well and we've left her in the Falmouth. We'll have a look at the race and make a decision early next week," said County Kildare-based Murtagh. "She's in good form and ran well at Ascot." The Charlie Hills-trained duo of Just The Judge and Kiyoshi, last year's Fillies' Mile winner Certify, Aidan O'Brien's Peace Burg and Mark Johnston's Ascot winner Muteela could all also run.

16:15 Sunday 6th July Racing Tips - 06/07/2014
Market Rasen is gearing up for their big summer meeting and tomorrow has a decent National Hunt card. The most open handicap has a few at a price worth noting but so many have something to prove and there's only 1 bet I want to have. That's The Society Man at 8/1 who is off the same mark as when staying on at Southwell on penultimate start over 2 furlongs further and has to be of interest back in handicap company. He was badly off at the weights last time in a hot contest but didn't run badly and this will suit much better for a team that sent out a big priced winner recently. He's won at the track before over hurdles too, off 1lb higher. Spoil Me and Theatrelands are from notable yards and have similar profiles but are still shorter than they should be on form. Market Rasen 15.15 - The Society Man 1pt e/w
Gold Futures has been kind to this page, winning both times this season, and I fancy him to make it a treble this afternoon in a race which should be run to suit. Nicky Richards has continued in decent form since this 5 year old has been enjoying a mini break and I get the impression he thinks the horse is special. Gold Futures is up in class and up 10lb but the way he wins his races suggests there's plenty more to come. The way he is ridden too, Brian Harding so calm and patient, suggests there's a real engine there and this could be set up for him. Three of the five may not get the trip and 2 forward going sorts suggest it will be a decent test. That will suit the patiently ridden 13/8 favourite. Market Rasen 16.15 - Gold Futures 3pt win

THE Aidan O’Brien-trained Adelaide went down narrowly in the inaugural Belmont Derby as outsider Mr Speaker (Shug McGaughey/Jose Lezcano) clocked a course-record time in a race in which British raider Toast Of New York finished sixth.
UAE Derby winner Toast Of New York, having his first run on turf since his debut fifth at Leicester last August, travelled well into the straight but emptied out of contention in the final furlong.
Jamie Osborne’s star could not replicate the finishing kick displayed by Mr Speaker, who blasted past Adelaide only to be harried all the way to the line by the Royal Ascot runner-up.
Speaking on At The Races, Osborne said: “Jamie [Spencer] said he was perfectly happy through the race and turning in he looked like he was about to kick on. He’s run a sound enough race but the last furlong was disappointing and he almost looked like a non-stayer.”
Osborne, who bypassed the Investec Derby with the Michael Buckley-owned Toast Of New York in favour of another ambitious international journey, added: “We will have to go back to the drawing board and see where to go to give him the best chance of winning.”
Mr Speaker, a maiden winner at the track and dual Grade 3 winner elsewhere, finished last of five at the course in May but bounced back to form in great style to post a winning time of 2mins 1.18secs.
Adelaide was given every chance by jockey Colm O’Donoghue as he attempted to go one better than when finishing behind Eagle Top in the King Edward VII Stakes 15 days ago and he briefly looked like doing so until Mr Speaker hit top gear up the inside rail.
Raise a glass It wasn't to be for Toast Of New York last night and trainer Jamie Osborne tweeted: "Toast lives to fight another day. We all really appreciate the kind messages from Tweetworld. Heartfelt thanks from Team Toast." 1 hour ago. ====================================== Ayr update Clerk of the course Emma Marley has tweeted this early update from the track. "Good to Firm (9.4) (Watered) No rain for 36hrs. Forecast for dry and sunny day. Max 16c." The action from Ayr starts at 1.30pm. 1 hour ago. =====================================

Kevin's followers had plenty to cheer about last week with his main selection Wexford Town being backed from an early price of 7.0 into 3.0 and recording an authoritative victory at the Curragh. His attentions now turn to Bellewstown and he hopes to deliver more profitable recommendations...
Looking Back
The first play of the week at the Curragh on Sunday was a place bet on Shu Lewis in the Group 3 At The Races Curragh Cup. While she ran a solid race without hitting the frame, I'm not sure we saw the very best of her. I cannot claim to see her on a regular basis, so there is a chance that she always looks like this, but having inspected her in the paddock, she did look quite light to me. This was her third run in the space of six weeks and given that her record when fresh is eye-catchingly good, she would be of interest if given a bit of a break prior to her next run.
The pick of the day's selections was Wexford Town in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF 'Ragusa' Handicap and thankfully, everything went to plan. The hope was that the experience he gained when making a winning handicap debut in the Ulster Derby the previous week, coupled with the longer trip and more galloping track, would see him show enough improvement to follow up and it went better than I could have expected.
I had hoped he would start and travel better than he had at Down Royal, but such was the level of his progression that he jumped very well and made the running. Rory Cleary was undoubtedly very clever from the front, dictating a steady pace all the way, and while he needed strong encouragement early in the straight, he was very strong at the finish and won with authority. Plenty will consider the fast-finishing Carlo Bugatti a bit unlucky on the day, but while he was undoubtedly poorly positioned as the race went and finished off very well, Wexford Town himself would have appreciated an even stronger test of stamina. The winner only went up 8lb and I really do think he could win another valuable handicap in the near future if he is given the opportunity to run in one.
This Week's Plays
With tomorrow being one of the rare Sundays during the Irish flat season that doesn't see a flat card taking place, my attentions focus on Bellewstown this afternoon and hopefully I have found a couple of profitable plays.
The first race of interest is the Sean Rothwell Construction Handicap (17:50) and while there is little doubt that it is the most difficult race on the entire card, these kind of races are my bread and butter and I'm never afraid to take a view in them.
For those that haven't been to Bellewstown before, it is a fairly wild track. It is very tight, the bends are banked to make them that little bit easier to negotiate, and there are other quirks such as numerous road crossings and cambers in both directions to deal with. It is a track that can create course specialists, but when dealing with less exposed horses, what is desirable is a nippy, strong traveller that can jump, get and hold a good position. The draw is also very important on the round course, as getting strung wide around those very tight bends is disastrous, which will be especially pronounced today as they will be utilising fresh ground on the extreme inside line of the track.
One that ticks all the right boxes in the 17:50 and one that also represents one of my favourite angles, that of supporting a horse off the back of an excusable below-form run, is the Tom McCourt-trained Princess Tamay. Tom McCourt has been doing very well with her, having picked her up for just £2,500 as a two-year-old with 11 winless runs to her name for Mark Johnston and training her to win two of her five starts this season.
The step up to a mile has definitely helped her and I felt that the application of cheekpieces on her penultimate start really helped her too when winning in good style at Listowel, with a 9lb rise for that being fully justified. That rise required her to step out of 47-65 company and McCourt also decided to step her up to 10 furlongs at Navan last time. For me, it was a clear case of her not getting home behind Beyond Brilliance and I'm more than happy to forgive that run.
She drops back to 47-70 company here and, more importantly, she returns to a mile. She has a good draw in stall six as there is very little pace inside her, so she should be able to get to what is her favoured position as well as what is often the perfect position on the round track here, railing behind the leader.
She is the type to handle a tricky track like this and with her price being excessively big due to people reading too much into her latest defeat, she appeals as being a play. There are a few against her that I very much respect, but their draws will make their jobs very tough.
The second race of interest is the Tierney Kitchens Handicap (18:50) which is run on the sprint track. The draw isn't as big a factor on the sprint track, but the tracks has its ups and downs and can be something of an acquired skill.
With that in mind, the John Murphy-trained Ever Yours is a somewhat chancy selection for the race. In truth, six furlongs is the trip she wants, but she showed last time at Tipperary that she is just about effective at the minimum trip.
While she wants a stiffer test than this, the speedsters Ucanchoose and La Canaada are drawn beside her out wide, so they should ensure that the race is a strong test at the trip and given that she is drawn wide, she should have more space to deliver an uninterrupted challenge than she did at Tipperary.
Trainer form is a factor I play close attention to and it hasn't escaped me that John Murphy has only had one winner this year which came back in March, but this filly ran well enough on her latest start to suggest that whatever about her stable mates, she is in good heart at present.
While I feel she is well handicapped, due to the above concerns, my recommendation is for a place bet rather than a win bet, as one thing for sure is that she will be finishing strongly. Hopefully she will be doing so to the extent that sees her home in front, but if she comes up a little bit short, place backers will still collect.
Recommended Plays
Back Princess Tamay 1pt to win @ 8.0 or better in the 17:50 at Bellewstown Back Ever Yours 1pt to place @ 2.0 or better in the 18:50 at Bellewstown

Classy Belle has Phoenix in sights
Kevin Prendergast is looking forward to seeing unbeaten filly Beach Belle test her powers against the boys in next month's Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.
The daughter of Invincible Spirit is out of talented racemare Beach Bunny, who came close to winning a Group One for the Prendergast team when narrowly denied by Dar Re Mi in the 2009 Pretty Polly Stakes.
Her daughter has made a fine start to her career, making a winning debut at the Curragh before clinching a Listed prize at Naas, and is now set for a step up to Group One level herself.
Prendergast said: "All going well, she's going to run in the Heinz (Phoenix Stakes) on August 10. If something changes we can always wait for the Moyglare Stud Stakes (September 14), but the Heinz is the plan at the moment.
"She was good in Naas and we decided not to take her to Royal Ascot. I just feel the ground in Ascot can get very firm and it is sometimes hard to get them back afterwards.
"We think our filly is pretty smart, so we're looking forward to seeing her out again."
================================ Prince possible for Meld outing
Paul Deegan believes the future is bright for Prince Of All following his creditable effort behind Kingman at Royal Ascot last month.
A dual winner on the all-weather at Dundalk earlier in the year, the Iffraaj colt was pitched in at Group One level at the Royal meeting.
He was far from disgraced, beaten just six lengths by the brilliant winner, and Deegan believes his charge might have finished even closer had things panned out differently.
The trainer said: "He was in at the deep end, but it was probably a career-best run. It was a steadily-run race, they went slow and then sprinted, so I think he is probably better than the bare form suggests.
"We might step him up in trip now as over a mile he needs a true-run race. There's a chance he could be supplemented for the Meld Stakes at the Curragh in a couple of weeks' time, which is a mile and a quarter.
"We think he's a very good horse and hopefully he has a big future."
Deegan also had news of dual Group Three winner Sruthan, who has not been seen in competitive action since finishing well beaten in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury in the middle of May.
"He came back from the Lockinge quite sore so we gave him an easy time after that," said the handler.
"We weren't too worried about the ground going to Newbury, but he didn't handle it at all. It was much too quick for him and I think we'll be regarding him as a spring and autumn horse from now on.
"He'll probably be aimed at the race on Irish champions weekend (Solonaway Stakes, September 13) and we'll work back from there.
"The ground is too quick for him at the moment, so we'll sit tight, wait until the rain comes and see where we go. We still have plenty of faith in him."
================================= Richards strikes Rasen gold
Gold Futures looked a young recruit on the upgrade when he put seasoned campaigners in their place in the Don Noble Heath Hayes Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen.
Despite his relative inexperience, the five-year-old was sent off the 11-8 favourite and obliged in fetching style to complete a hat-trick.
Australia Day set off in his usual trailblazing fashion until he was headed before the second-last flight by Gold Futures, who sailed away to win by seven lengths.
Trainer Nicky Richards said: "He's going the right way. He's had a very good summer up to now. He'll tell us when he wants to go again. There are various races, but we'll take our time. Chasing is more his game. No doubt the handicapper is going to put a stop to him winning at some stage. I won't be over-racing him before we go chasing."
Tony McCoy wasted little time getting on the scoresheet on his return from a short spell on the sidelines as he struck on The Nephew in the Don Noble Hasland Handicap Chase. The 19-times champion took time off after a fall at Worcester on Wednesday but got back in the groove on the Jonjo O'Neill-trained six-year-old.
Dictating proceedings from the outset, The Nephew (7-2) was not seriously troubled as he came home eight lengths clear of His Excellency.
Tom Scudamore may have been out of luck on the latter, but he was rewarded with a 35-1 double on Ainsi Fideles and Mister Wiseman.
Ainsi Fideles (3-1) made a winning debut over fences when destroying the opposition in the Don Noble Bartley Green Beginners' Chase. Wearing blinkers for the first time, the David Pipe-trained four-year-old was far too good for his older rivals, with the only scare coming when he put in a hairy jump at the first.
Left in the lead when Tax Benefit came down at the fifth fence, Ainsi Fideles steadily pulled away and was 23 lengths clear of his nearest pursuer Welsh Bard at the line.
"He did it nicely, a very pleasing debut. He had a little jink at the first, but once we got that out of the way he was pretty much foot- perfect and jumped impeccably after that," Scudamore told Racing UK.
The jockey doubled up when Mister Wiseman (8-1) repeated last year's victory in the Don Noble Leicester Handicap Chase. After allowing Train Of Thought to do the donkey work up front, Scudamore sent Nigel Hawke's charge on after four out and he galloped on stoutly to score by a length and three-quarters from The Society Man.
Alderbrook Lad (7-2) made all to deny the odds-on Manjakani and complete a hat-trick in the Don Noble Coalville Novices' Hurdle. Micky Hammond's eight-year-old defied a double penalty under 5lb claimer Joe Colliver and ran McCoy's mount into the ground as he beat him by 12 lengths.
The David Evans-trained Scotsbrook Cloud (9-1) capitalised on a final-flight error by Weather Babe to land the Tom Halliday Memorial Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle by three and three-quarter lengths under Peter Carberry.
====================================== Osborne bemused by Toast run
Jamie Osborne is keen to let the dust settle before discussing plans for Toast Of New York after his slightly disappointing effort in the Belmont Derby on Saturday.
The three-year-old was a brilliant winner of the UAE Derby on World Cup night at Meydan at the end of March and sidestepped a tilt at the Investec Derby at Epsom last month in favour of a trip across the Atlantic.
Toast Of New York travelled smoothly to the home turn in the hands of Jamie Spencer, but was unable to sustain his finishing effort in the last quarter of a mile and passed the post in sixth behind surprise winner Mr Speaker and Aidan O'Brien's Adelaide..
Speaking from New York on Sunday, Osborne said: " He seems fine and I don't really know what happened.
"At the end of the day he was beaten five lengths in a Grade One, so he hasn't performed disastrously. It just wasn't what we expected.
"I suppose you half set yourself up for these things, but we think he underperformed, for whatever reason.
"He loomed up looking like the horse to beat on the bottom turn and has flattened out quite quickly.
"We'll get him home, give him a few tests and have a rethink. We live to fight another day."
====================================== Goodwood and York on Sous radar
The Goodwood Cup and the Ebor at York are among a number of options under consideration for Royal Ascot hero Pique Sous.
Willie Mullins' talented dual-purpose grey clinched the Queen Alexandra Stakes at the summer showpiece meeting and connections initially considered letting him turn out for last weekend's Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.
However, the champion trainer decided to give the seven-year-old more time to recover from his Ascot exertions and owners the Supreme Horse Racing Club are excited to see what the rest of the season has in store.
Supreme racing manager Steve Massey said: "He came out of Ascot really well and we're looking at a number of staying races in England, Ireland and France for him.
"We'll keep our options open and the ground will be a key factor in deciding where we go as he loves quicker ground.
"There's the Goodwood Cup, the Ebor has been mentioned and there's also a race at Deauville, so we'll wait and see where we end up.
"I think we'll probably give him a speculative entry in the Galway Hurdle as well. I think his future is on the Flat, but he looks very well handicapped over hurdles and we'd be daft not to put him in at Galway, just in case the ground in Britain or France came up too soft.
"We're all still on a high after Ascot and if we can keep him right and he gets his ground, hopefully we'll have an exciting summer with him.
"As always, we will leave it up to Willie to decide where he goes."
================================ Graphic shines in Messidor
Trainer William Haggas put the seal on a fine weekend when Graphic claimed the Group Three Prix Messidor at Maisons-Laffitte.
The Newmarket handler had already savoured a huge result at Sandown on Saturday when Mukhadram landed the Coral-Eclipse by two lengths.
Haggas then secured further Pattern-race honours in France as the Frankie Dettori-ridden Graphic, owned by the Royal Ascot Racing Club, defeated Pilote by a length and a half. Line Drummer finished third.
Graphic has been in fine fettle all season and was last seen taking second place behind French Navy in the Investec Diomed Stakes at Epsom on June 6.
Dettori and Richard Hannon had no such fortune in the Prix Amandine, a seven-furlong Listed race for three-year-old fillies, as Midnite Angel finished some way adrift of Amy Eria.
Trained by Francois Rohaut and ridden by Thierry Thulliez, the victorious Shamardal filly had two lengths in reserve of This Time at the line.
Amy Eria is, like Midnite Angel, owned by Al Shaqab Racing.
=================================== Faydhan poised for rise in class
Faydhan could leap straight into Group Two company following an impressive debut success at Haydock Park on Thursday that saw him propelled to the head of the market for next year's 2000 Guineas.
Connections of the John Gosden-trained colt have the option of keeping him to six furlongs for a race such as the Gimcrack Stakes at York next month, or stepping him up to seven for the Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
"He won well. Hopefully he's a nice horse. The choices are whether we stay at six furlongs or go up to seven," said Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.
"He wants faster ground than he got at Haydock. Paul (Hanagan) said he was surprised how green the horse was.
"He said if he sharpens up as much as he expects him to he thinks he's got plenty of speed for six, but that he will get seven furlongs and a mile in due course.
"I'll talk to John and just see what the options are, like the Gimcrack and stay over six or whether we take a view now and look at something like the Vintage at Goodwood. We'll chew the fat over the various options."
Sheikh Hamdan has another likeable two-year-old in Nafaqa, who was a fast-finishing fourth in the Chesham Stakes on his racecourse bow at Royal Ascot after fluffing the start.
"I haven't spoken to Barry Hills (trainer) for about 10 days but he said after Ascot he was going to give him a bit of time. He is still immature and is not going to rush him back," said Gold.
"We were originally going to look at the seven-furlong maiden at the July meeting (at Newmarket), but Barry has not put him in that so he'll be giving him a bit longer, a couple more weeks."
=================================== Another Nassau likely for Fugue
The Fugue's likely next objective is the Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood following her disappointing showing in Saturday's Coral-Eclipse.
John Gosden's filly was sent off favourite for the Sandown showpiece having clinched her fourth Group One victory with a brilliant display in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, but having been ridden with restraint by William Buick, she failed to reel in the leaders.
The five-year-old passed the post sixth as the admirable Mukhadram secured his first top-level triumph, and connections feel the rain that fell earlier in the day played a major part in her demise.
The mare could now take on her own sex and go for a second Nassau after being successful in 2012.
Simon Marsh, racing manager for the owners Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber, said: "I haven't spoken to John today but the filly was absolutely fine last night and I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong with her.
"It was a shame we had the shower earlier in the day, which made the ground a bit loose.
"We just have to move on and we'll look at the Nassau for her next. Yesterday was just one of those days."
================================== Muk camp tempted by King George
Mukhadram's connections are to give the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes serious consideration after the five-year-old gained a first Group One success in the Coral-Eclipse.
In the immediate aftermath of Saturday's triumph at Sandown, trainer William Haggas said he would love to give Mukhadram a try over a mile and a half in the Ascot midsummer highlight on July 26, if he could get the blessing of owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.
The question will certainly be asked after Mukhadram took the 10-furlong contest by two lengths from last year's Irish Derby hero Trading Leather, with other top-notch performers like Kingston Hill, The Fugue and Night Of Thunder well beaten.
"I haven't had a proper chat with Sheikh Hamdan, but William is very keen to go to the King George. That's a very obvious target," said the owner's racing manager, Angus Gold.
"William himself has always felt he wanted to give him a go at a mile and a half. I have no doubt he will stay. On his pedigree I'd be surprised if he doesn't stay. Whether he will be as effective as he is at a mile and a quarter is another matter.
"We'll just have to see how the horse comes out of it and then ask Sheikh Hamdan if he wants to go up to a mile and a half or if he wants to keep him for the Juddmonte International (at York next month) and other top mile and a quarter races.
"He's an older horse that's had a few niggly problems and you have to run them when they are in good shape and going forward. At the moment he's in a good place and will have got some confidence now.
"He's a horse that gives everything every time and only ever goes down fighting. If he's in good form leading up to the King George, it's going to be a huge temptation.
"It's a fabulous race to win. Let's see what shape it looks like taking, see who's going to turn up and talk to Sheikh Hamdan.
"This horse seems to like going right-handed and has run his best races at Sandown and Ascot. He nearly nicked a Prince Of Wales's there last year. The King George is certainly under consideration."
===================================== Sea superb in German Derby
Sea The Moon preserved his unbeaten record as he put up a scintillating show to land the German Derby in Hamburg by 11 lengths.
Christophe Soumillon had the Markus Klug-trained colt smartly out of the stalls to overcome a poor draw, and grabbed the rail.
The son of Sea The Stars quickened from the front as they began the turn into the straight and then hared across the track to the near-side rail on his own, but s uch was his dominance that Soumillon could enjoy a casual look over his shoulder to see the opposition blown away.
Lucky Lion did best of the rest a long way back in second, while the sole British raider, Godolphin's Pinzolo, never showed.
Aidan O'Brien's challenger Geoffrey Chaucer weakened quickly under Ryan Moore after threatening to make a bid.
Soumillon said: "I was going so well that I found myself in front very early and just decided to stay there.
"When they came round that last bend I went to look for better ground on the outside of the track. I knew then he was going to win.
"He's a bit like Orfevre (two-times Arc runner-up) in the sense that he's a bit cheeky and is not an easy horse to ride. But I was well prepared for it and everything worked out well."
When asked if Sea The Moon could be competitive in major races in France and England, Soumillon said: "Absolutely. Definitely. Yes."
Sea The Moon was cut to as low as 6-1 to emulate his sire and win the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in October.

The Stewards held a further enquiry concerning the unruly behaviour of EUSTON SQUARE, ridden by Garry Whillans, which had been reluctant to race. They interviewed Alistair Whillans, the trainer. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the start the Stewards informed the trainer that future similar behaviour may result in the gelding being reported to the British Horseracing Authority.
