They interviewed the rider and the trainer. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer and observations from the Handicapper. The rider stated that his instructions were to drop the gelding in, not to force him and get him to relax. He added that he was also instructed to give SPIRITUAL STAR (IRE) a hands-and-heels ride and bring him late into the race. He stated that he came on to the bridle five out, running on to the heels of other runners. The trainer confirmed that those were his instructions. 16:20 Sunday 2nd March Racing Tips - 02/03/2014
There's a really competitive handicap this afternoon at Leopardstown with a few Irish and British National runners on show. Rather like Teaforthree a few weeks back, I can see them going close but think this may still go to something that doesn't need quite such a stamina test, especially given a lack of runners that like to go forward. Daring Article is the obvious choice and he should reverse the form with recent course and distance winner He'llberemembered on this slightly better ground. However, I prefer the price of Pass The Hat in this competitive, open race. He needs to step up but his form at the start of the season gives him every right to win off a mark of 119. That Courtncatcher hurdles race has worked out very well and his Limerick win suggests he's leniently treated given what he beat. Penultimate start was too far, last time too heavy, no excuses today at 10/1 and he has place claims at least. He is just preferred to the stables other runner Home Farm who may want a touch further. Leopardstown 16.20 - Pass The Hat 1pt e/w
David Pipe is flying at the moment but he sends out a horse tomorrow at Huntingdon that I want t oppose all ends up. Thomas Junior is not guaranteed to handle conditions and, while he is probably a little ahead of the handicapper, there are a few of interest that mean this will not be the walkover his 2/1 price would suggest. Annaluna is a real threat back in a visor but may just be more effective on better ground, perhaps at a stiffer track. Ghost Of A Smile hails form another yard in form and was better than the bare result last time here having made up ground late on. Sarando is the one that I think should be closer in the betting to the favourite and is worth taking at 7/1. Alex Hales is in great nick and his 9 year old has dropped to a mark 30lb lower than his highest over hurdles, 44lb below his highest over fences. He's shown enough in 2 recent runs to suggest that a drop in trip will help and he gets on well with Will Kennedy. The worry is that he doesn't win often but he was placed over course and distance behind the smart The Minack 4 years ago and I can see him in the frame again. He'll race prominently, which will help here, and he should appreciate the likely decent gallop considering he has won over 3 miles. Huntingdon 15.00 - Sarando 1pt e/w
It would be great to see No No Charlie win for Charlie Longsdon but he is a risky proposition at 4/1. Undoubtedly well treated, he still has to prove a handle of heavy ground and has been a beaten favourite 3 times. The tongue tie should help ensure a better performance than last time but he's still not really backable for me. Mission To Mars looks about right in the handicap and is a nice price but the concern is stamina given plenty here, he especially, that like to make the running or have done in the past. Thundering Home would give his yard a welcome wnner if successful this afternoon and he does have a bit to prove at 9/1. However, he looks best going right handed and a true test should help. He often gets done for speed at the back of the field if they haven't gone much of an early gallop but is much more effective when given something to aim at. Hopefullly they won't hang about today. 2 of his 3 turf wins have come on soft and he was outclassed on good ground last time, though, in truth, I don't think he wants it really juicy so heavy is a slight concern. This is easier than last time though and he's down to a fair mark just 4lb higher than his last win, with a classy 3lb claimer on top this afternoon. Huntingdon 16.00 - Thundering Home 1pt e/w ===================================================

Owner Barry Connell has confirmed Foxrock will line up in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
The Ted Walsh-trained six-year-old heads ante-post lists for the four-mile amateur riders' contest after winning successive Grade Two novice prizes at Naas and Navan.
Foxrock also holds an entry in the RSA Chase, but is set to tackle the longer distance, with the trainer's daughter and leading amateur Katie Walsh set to ride.
Connell said: "Foxrock will go for the four-miler and Katie will definitely ride him. He's won his two Grade Two races the last twice and looks the class horse in the race." =========================================== The going remains unchanged for this afternoon's meeting at Leopardstown following a dry night.
The ground is described as yielding, good to yielding in places, on the chase course, while the hurdle track is yielding to soft and good in the last two furlongs.
The €50,000 Carrickmines Handicap Chase is the highlight on a seven-race card beginning at 2.20pm, while there will also be the annual pre-Cheltenham gallops after racing. ===========================================

Donald has five runners in action at Sedgefield and Huntingdon...
14.10 Sedgefield
Take The Cash
He's a nice young horse and his bumper at Catterick is working out well - the winner looks a good prospect and the third has come out and won since as well. The track there would have been plenty sharp enough for him and he should be a different proposition over this longer trip. Enchanted Garden and Slipper Satin have both shown a bit and won't be pushovers but I would like to think he was well up to winning a race like this.
15.40 Sedgefield
Keeneland
He was going the right way when he was last in action and I am sure that this sort of mark isn't going to prove beyond him but he is returning from a long time off and I think he will come on for the run. He may well prove up to the task but we need to get him back up and running - Sunday isn't the be all and end all with him after his problems.
17.10 Sedgefield
Degooch
He's run well in a couple of fair bumpers already and he isn't short of ability but this won't be easy with at least three of these having shown plenty already. He won't mind the conditions and should run well but for a Sedgefield bumper, this doesn't look too bad a race.
15.30 Huntingdon
Lively Baron
There's no doubt he has the ability to win off this mark and he is going the right way round but he does have two ways of running. He ran a moody race at Musselburgh last time and if you took that in isolation you wouldn't go near him, but his Carlisle run earlier in the year was perfectly respectable and he is 5lb lower now. He's not one you would ever want to rely on totally but this isn't particularly competitive and on his best form, he'd have an obvious chance.
16.30 Huntingdon
Silver Gent
He's a likeable little horse and he made a promising start at Sedgefield, even though he got beaten. The longer trip here will suit, he jumps well at home and I think he will be up to winning novice hurdles. Although this is a small field, all of them look to have something to recommend them but I would like to think he would go very well.

Ground conditions will dictate whether talented chaser Module targets the Queen Mother Champion Chase or the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. ![http://e1.365dm.com/14/02/768x576/Module-Newbury-FULL_3080367.jpg?20140208152929](http://e1.365dm.com/14/02/768x576/Module-Newbury-FULL_3080367.jpg?20140208152929) Module: Options open Tom George's seven-year-old made a fine start to the season when narrowly denied by Somersby in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter and was not disgraced when fourth in Huntingdon's Peterborough Chase on his next appearance. He got off the mark for the campaign when claiming the notable scalp of Dodging Bullets in the Game Spirit at Newbury at the start of February and connections must soon decide on his Festival target. George said: "What I will say is I'm very happy with the horse. "I couldn't be happier with the way he's going at the moment. He is a maturing horse and has matured a lot since the start of the season. "We'll keep our options open and see what the ground is going to be like at Cheltenham. "He doesn't need soft ground, but we know he handles it well, so we'll see what conditions are going to be like and how the two races are shaping up."

Triolo D'Alene is set to take his chance in the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup according to trainer Nicky Henderson. ![http://e1.365dm.com/13/11/768x576/Triolo-D-Alene_3044152.jpg?20131130154030](http://e1.365dm.com/13/11/768x576/Triolo-D-Alene_3044152.jpg?20131130154030) Triolo D'Alene: Gold Cup bound The Hennessy Gold Cup winner has a clutch of entries at the Cheltenham Festival, but a promising workout on Sunday morning convinced connections to go for the big one. Henderson said: "He's very good. We were delighted with him. He worked really well. "He's got to go somewhere, and it (the Gold Cup) looks a wide-open race this year." Triolo D'Alene has not been seen since his accomplished defeat of Rocky Creek in the Hennessy at Newbury last November, having constantly been blighted by the wet weather. He is also still in contention for the Crabbie's Grand National at Aintree in April. Henderson now has an especially strong hand in the Gold Cup as he is responsible for last year's winner Bobs Worth. Like Triolo D'Alene, the nine-year-old was put through his paces on the Mandown gallops on Sunday morning. The Seven Barrows handler said: "He's in very good nick and was another who worked well. "It was a good morning for us."

Arthur Moore is keeping his fingers crossed Sea Beat makes the cut for the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham. ![http://e2.365dm.com/14/03/768x576/Arthur-Moore_3093293.jpg?20140302114530](http://e2.365dm.com/14/03/768x576/Arthur-Moore_3093293.jpg?20140302114530) Arthur Moore: Trains Sea Beat The County Kildare handler saddled What A Charm to win the same Festival prize three years ago and Sea Beat, who carries the same colours, has done little wrong in his three starts over obstacles. Not disgraced in defeat in races won by Plinth and Ivan Grozny, the four-year-old made it third-time lucky at Naas in early February and is a best priced 16-1 for Cheltenham glory. However, with a mark of 123, he is still well down the list and needs plenty of those rated higher to withdraw to get into the final field. Moore said: "I think he'll run as long as he gets in, but it must be less than a 50-50 chance he'll make the cut at this stage. "We'll have a better idea once the confirmations are out next week, but we'd like to run him if we can. "He's in good form."

Sedgefield, 2 March 2014
The BHA gave permission for fence number 5 to be omitted in all steeple chases due to ground conditions.
2.40, second race
The Stewards noted that the winner, BORIS THE BLADE, had interfered with CAERLAVEROCK (IRE), placed second, approaching the second last hurdle, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved BORIS THE BLADE’s placing.
4.40, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Clerk of the Scales that Joe Colliver, the rider of PANTHERS RUN, placed fourth, had changed his equipment after weighing out. They interviewed the rider, Paul Renshaw the Valet, and the Clerk of the Scales. Having heard their evidence and Joe Colliver’s admission that he had changed his boots, they found Colliver in breach of Rule (D) 43.1 and fined him £290.

Huntingdon, 2 March 2014
The BHA have given permission for the first fence in the back straight (Fence 6) to be omitted for all chases due to ground conditions. As a result, the water jump will be omitted for the first circuit only of the 2m4f chase (Race 2).
2.00, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of PADDOCKS LOUNGE (IRE), ridden by Mattie Batchelor and trained by Jim Best, which settled in the rear before being asked for its effort passing the four furlong marker and staying on steadily in the home straight to finish seventh beaten 19 lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer’s representative. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated his instructions were to drop the gelding in and ensure that he settled, given that PADDOCKS LOUNGE (IRE) had pulled very hard on his debut at Towcester seven days earlier. He added that after leaving the back straight the gelding had commenced to lug right-handed which required correction and resulted in the gelding losing ground approaching the home turn, before eventually running on again in the straight. The trainer’s representative confirmed that those were the instructions given, and that he was satisfied they were carried out. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations.

PREVIOUS winner at the Cheltenham Festival when landing the Champion Bumper in 2011, Cheltenian is considered by Philip Hobbs to be his best chance from his team for the meeting this year.
The lightly-raced eight-year-old has only had four starts over hurdles since winning the Champion Bumper, and demonstrated he still retains plenty of ability when fourth to Splash Of Ginge in the Betfair Hurdle last time out. ============================================ Topham option for Brass Tax Brass Tax returned to action at Ludlow last Thursday for Ben Case, and the trainer said on his website: "He will improve a lot for the outing. He may run next in the Topham at Aintree." ========================================== Jackpot details Today's Tote Jackpot is at Kempton, with a guaranteed £10,000 pool. ============================================ Not looking good for Fontwell Clerk of the course Ed Arkell said: "We had half an inch [of rain] over the weekend and the forecast is for further heavy showers. It's not looking particularly positive." ============================================== Inspection for Fontwell Fontwell's meeting on Wednesday is subject to an inspection at 2pm this afternoon. There has been 12mm of rain in the last 24 hours, and the track is waterlogged. ================================================= Birthday wishes Sir Peter O'Sullevan celebrates his 96th birthday today, and the racing and broadcasting legend said: "I’ve managed to get to 96, which is absolutely amazing." =============================================== Quotes Midlands National possible Pete The Feat unseated Noel Fehily at Newbury on Saturday, and trainer Charlie Longsdon said on his website: "It was certainly not the ideal preparation for a possible tilt at the Grand National. He might get an entry for the Midlands National." ===================================================

Noel Meade has withdrawn Monksland from the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival as he revealed several members of his string are under the weather. ![http://e0.365dm.com/12/12/768x576/Monksland-Leopardstown_2879136.jpg?20121228162422](http://e0.365dm.com/12/12/768x576/Monksland-Leopardstown_2879136.jpg?20121228162422) Monksland: Misses Cheltenham Monksland has been sidelined since winning the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown in December 2012, but the County Meath trainer still hopes to get him back on the track this season, with races at Aintree, Fairyhouse and Punchestown to be considered. "He's good, but he's just not going to Cheltenham," said Meade. "We've got a bit of a problem here with a few dirty noses and temperatures and whatever, so he's not going to go. "Liverpool is a possibility and there's Fairyhouse and Punchestown, hopefully. "Any of the other places are possibilities. We'll have to see how we get on." Monksland was generally available at 16/1 for the stayers' champion on March 13.

Evan Williams intends to give One In A Milan another sharpener over hurdles ahead of a possible crack at the Crabbie's Grand National. ![http://e0.365dm.com/13/03/768x576/evan-williams-blinkers-full_2921642.jpg?20130328160032](http://e0.365dm.com/13/03/768x576/evan-williams-blinkers-full_2921642.jpg?20130328160032) Evan Williams: Trains One In A Milan The Llancarfan trainer feels his hope for this year's Aintree showpiece needs to go to the track again after he was beaten 53 lengths in sixth place behind Buddy Bolero in a Pertemps hurdle series qualifier at Chepstow. That was his first run since he was fourth to Mountainous in the Coral Welsh Grand National in late December. "He's grand, but he only just got warmed up when he got to the winning post," said Williams. "He could have done with another three miles. I might give him another run over hurdles to sharpen him up because he's the laziest horse I've ever had in my life." One In A Milan still has some way to go to get a place in the maximum 40-runner field in the world's greatest steeplechase on April 5, but he did move up to number 65 in the list from 73 after the first acceptance stage.

Lingfield Park, 3 March 2014
The Stewards gave permission for the runners to be mounted in the pre-parade ring for all races because the parade ring was flooded.
1.45, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference on the approach to the line. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, CATARIA GIRL (USA), ridden by Jordan Vaughan, had interfered with LEGAL LEGACY, unplaced, ridden by Thomas Brown and INDIA’S SONG, placed fourth, ridden by George Buckell which in turn interfered with COPPERWOOD, unplaced, ridden by Amir Quinn. The Stewards found Vaughan in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift right. They suspended him for 4 days as follows: Monday 17, Tuesday 18, Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 March 2014.
3.20, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Amir Quinn, the rider of SEEK THE FAIR LAND, placed second, from approaching the first furlong marker. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Quinn for 4 days as follows: Monday 17, Tuesday 18, Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 March 2014.
4.25, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Clerk of the Scales that Frankie McDonald, the rider of DARK TSARINA (IRE), unplaced, had weighed in at 8st 4lb having weighed out at 8st 2lb. They interviewed the rider, John Butler, the trainer and the Clerk of the Scales. Having heard their evidence the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)67.4.3 and suspended him for 2 days as follows: Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 March 2014.
4.55, seventh race
The Stewards noted that ZAMRA (IRE), placed second, had interfered with SAMTU (IRE), placed third, on the run to the line but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved ZAMRA (IRE)’s placing.
03/03/2014
Southwell, 3 March 2014
The first fence and the first flight of hurdles in the back straight have been omitted in all races due to ground conditions.
4.35, sixth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, WORDY’S BOY, ridden by Adam Pogson and trained by Charles Pogson, compared with its previous run at Southwell on 22 January 2014 where the gelding finished seventh of eight, beaten by 61 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that WORDY’S BOY had taken time to come to hand after a two-year absence and he was possibly suited by the better ground. They ordered WORDY’S BOY to be routine tested.
5.05, seventh race
The record of vaccinations in the passport of CELTIC AGENT, trained by Philip Kirby, did not comply with the Rules of Racing. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Rule (E)18 and fined him £280, this being his second offence within a period of twelve months.
03/03/2014
Kempton Park, 3 March 2014
2.40, first race
The Stewards noted that HABESHIA and TIMOTHY T, both unplaced, had interfered with CALLISTO LIGHT, unplaced, at the two furlong marker, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
3.10, second race
The Starter reported that MOUNT SHAMSAN, trained by William Haggas, refused to enter the stalls. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
5.15, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference on the run to the line.. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, GLASTONBERRY, ridden by Hayley Turner, had interfered with MAC’S POWER (IRE), placed second, ridden by Robert Winston, and that the interference had not improved GLASTONBERRY’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered. The Stewards found Turner in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that she allowed her horse to drift left handed. They cautioned her as to her future conduct in races.
03/03/2014 ======================================
Lingfield Park, 3 March 2014

I'm not keen to take on Dungeness today at Exeter as such but he doesn't exactly look a nice price at 2/1. He was gong ok here over course and distance on penultimate start before the rider had a stirrup malfunction but there's no guarantee he would have won. Next time saw him fade over shorter after setting a fierce early gallop and he will have competition for the lead today from Royal Opera. Hopefully Gallic Warrior will let them get on with it up top as he does look well treated on handicap bow. A step up in trip should suit as long as he doesn't burn himself out and he's bred to handle cut. He won a bumper on soft ground and his 2 best efforts over obstacles have come here so 8/1 looks a pretty safe e/w option. Exeter 14.00 - Gallic Warrior 1pt e/w
Alderluck is probably pick of those in the Devon National but he is getting on a bit and may be vulnerable to something unexposed at the trip. At a similar price but of more appeal is Farmer Mattt in the 3 mile handicap chase. The same trainer and jockey as Gallic Warrior, Fergal O'Brien is hitting form and hopefully he'll have a good day. His 8 year old won over hurdles at this trip here and made an encouraging chase debut behind Caid Du Berlais last time. That ground would have been on the fast side for him and better can be expected today at a not too shabby 3/1. Paddy Brennan has a solid record on him and he's potentially well treated of a mark of 114, 3lb lower than his highest over hurdles. The top 2 in the weights can't be discounted but it's a surprise to see them ahead of the selection in the betting. Master Overseer retired After finishing fifth in a veterans' chase at Newbury on Saturday, the David Pipe-trained Master Overseer has been retired. His big-race wins include the 2012 Midlands National and a Grade 3 handicap chase at Cheltenham the same year. ========================================== LEGENDARY gambler and former trainer Barney Curley has for the first time commented on January's four-horse betting coup that cost bookmakers in the region of £2 million.
Although Curley was widely believed to have been the mastermind behind the coup, before Monday night's admission that he found the chain of events "very satisfying" he had chosen to keep his own counsel on the matter.
However, speaking at a Cheltenham Festival preview evening in Galway - which helped raise money for Curley's Direct Aid For Africa charity - the 74-year-old appeared to confirm his involvement.
"It's over now, we've done it," said Curley. "It's very satisfying and hopefully it does some good."
Three of the four horses involved were trained by Des Donovan or John Butler, both of whom have previously worked alongside Curley.
The fourth was trained by Sophie Leech, although had previously been trained by Curley. ========================================= Paddy Power posts pre-tax profit of £141m for 2013 PADDY POWER'S preliminary results for 2013, released on Tuesday morning, report record profit before tax of €141m (up from €139.2m in 2012). =============================================== Cold start in Newcastle The track races today and clerk of the course James Armstrong tweeted: "@newcastleraces cold start! -3C at present & slight crust. Willie Mullins will be taking the same security precautions as always as he sends his strongest ever team over to the Cheltenham Festival next week. ![http://e2.365dm.com/13/10/768x576/Willie-Mullins_3024853.jpg?20131026092207](http://e2.365dm.com/13/10/768x576/Willie-Mullins_3024853.jpg?20131026092207) Willie Mullins: Taking security seriously The Closutton maestro expects to take around 40 horses to the home of National Hunt racing but admits the threat of one of his horses being doped is never far from his thoughts. Mullins recalled riding a horse trained by his father, Dawn Run's trainer Paddy Mullins, which had been drugged by a gang in the 1980s. "In any major sport, not only horse racing, there is a risk of knowledge if someone can dope or nobble a major player or team, then they can sell that information or use it themselves and it is just something we are aware of all the time," Mullins told RTE Radio. "We're probably more aware of it in racing than other sports but no more so than a major soccer team going abroad who will take care of their own food and accommodation, they keep people away from them and we are the same with horses, you've got to be on your guard all the time. "We'll have the security we always have, without going into any details, but we always have it - it's not just this year. "Going back to the time of Dawn Run, when you have a really major player going across you always have concerns. I don't think a lot of Irish people have the same concerns or make much of a fuss, but it is always something that we think about when we are going. "There was a gang going around in the 1980s doing it to horses. I remember riding a horse one day that was doped - it went on at the time, we just tried to guard against it. "There was extraordinary stuff that went on at the time, I don't think they were ever caught but it was known about. "The horse was doped, dead as a door nail. We didn't realise because we didn't expect it but after three or four of them ran poorly, we started asking questions and we found out. It was an Irish gang. That was well known at the time, I'm fairly sure." The British Horseracing Authority is responsible for security at the racecourse stables and describes the matter as "of paramount importance". "BHA works closely with Cheltenham Racecourse regarding security in the racecourse stables and it is a matter of paramount importance as part of our raceday integrity operation," said BHA spokesman Robin Mounsey. "The site is monitored by BHA Equine Welfare Integrity Officers 24 hours a day from a period well in advance of and during the Festival. The site is comprehensively monitored by a CCTV system as well as regular patrols of the stable yard. "Should anyone have any concerns about the wellbeing or performance of a horse then the flexibility in our testing procedures allows for those horses to be sampled, either pre or post-race."

My Tent Or Yours' Cheltenham Festival preparations have taken a jolt after trainer Nicky Henderson said the Stan James Champion Hurdle aspirant suffered "a discrete puncture" on the sole of a hoof. ![http://e0.365dm.com/14/02/768x576/mytent-full_3090222.jpg?20140225153151](http://e0.365dm.com/14/02/768x576/mytent-full_3090222.jpg?20140225153151) Nicky Henderson with My Tent Or Yours last week The seven-year-old gelding has had his shoe removed and the Seven Barrows team are currently assessing the problem before deciding on exactly how to treat it. Henderson said: "We have had to take his shoe off and he has a discrete puncture wound in the sole. It's tender right now, but it's rather new so it's bound to be sore. "We are tending to it as we speak. "We have got his shoe off right now and we are designing a new one to cover and protect it. "One would assume he must have done it yesterday so it will be sore, but we have just got to tread carefully and we will keep everyone posted. "He's finished all his work, he galloped on Saturday so I'm not worried work-wise. "No trainer wants a problem at this stage, though. We are all praying for a trouble-free run but we don't seem to be getting one across the board. "We've got all the experts here and we are working on it at the moment, it's just a matter of what we do and we will update everyone later." My Tent Or Yours has already claimed two Grade Ones this term, landing the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle before following up in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day, when he beat fellow Cheltenham runner The New One. He won a jumpers' bumper at Kempton last month on his final Festival prep run.

Barney Curley has admitted his part in the January betting coup which allegedly cost bookmakers in the region of £2million. ![http://e2.365dm.com/14/03/768x576/Barney-Curley_3094456.jpg?20140304095658](http://e2.365dm.com/14/03/768x576/Barney-Curley_3094456.jpg?20140304095658) Barney Curley: Admitted part in betting coup Eye Of The Tiger, Seven Summits, Indus Valley and Low Key all won around the country on January 22 with each of the four horses being linked to Curley. The former trainer did not admit his role at the time, but speaking at a Cheltenham preview night in Galway on Monday, Curley conceded he had been part of the gamble. He said: "This is from the bottom of my heart. I am serious about this - I don't want to talk about it. "I have a reason for saying that because it's a distraction from what I'm trying to do (his charity work with Direct Aid For Africa). It's over now, we've done it - it was very satisfying. Let's hope it does a bit of good. "I'm a retired racehorse trainer. I'm not really a retired owner though - I have a few young horses." Curley revealed former trainers Ian Balding and Martin Pipe, as well as the latter's son David, had written to him following the coup. "It was very tough but I got two letters which I kept - that satisfies me," he said. "One was from Ian Balding, who probably was one of the greatest sportsmen in England in this last 30 or 40 years. That'd be Clare and Andrew Balding's father. "It was a great privilege to get a letter from him because he knows all about the horses. "The other was a letter that arrived through the post one day. There was a photograph of me on the front of the paper and these people had cut off the photograph and stuck it on the front of this letter and it read Barney Curley Genius, Newmarket, England. "I was going to throw it in the bin because all those things are rubbish, but I looked and there was a first class stamp on it. "It was probably from one of the greatest training organisations of the last forty or fifty years. One side was signed, Martin Pipe, and the other was signed David Pipe, on a postcard. So I'll die happy enough with that."

Newcastle, 4 March 2014
The BHA gave permission for fence number 7 (middle in the back straight), and hurdle number 4 (first in the back straight) to be omitted due to ground conditions.
2.20, first race
The Stewards noted that SILVER VOGUE, ridden by Ryan Mania, had failed to enter the unsaddling enclosure. Being satisfied that the rider had been following advice from the Veterinary Officer not to enter the unsaddling enclosure, they took no further action.
2.50, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from Wilson Renwick, rider of FARM PIXIE (IRE), that during the race he had noticed an implement resting on the second last fence in the back straight. Having heard evidence from the rider, the Clerk of the Course and viewed video recordings of the horses jumping the fence, the Stewards found that a member of groundstaff had left an implement on the guard rail of the fence. They ordered a report to be forwarded to the British Horseracing Authority.

Exeter, 4 March 2014
2.30, second race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, BOBBLE BORU (IRE), ridden by Aidan Coleman, and trained by Venetia Williams, compared with its previous run at Fakenham on 14 February 2014, where the mare was pulled up. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for BOBBLE BORU (IRE)’s improved form.
3.00, third race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, FLYING AWARD (IRE), ridden by Miss Lucy Gardner, and trained by Mrs Susan Gardner, compared with its previous run at Ffos Las on 1 February 2014, where the gelding was pulled up. They noted the trainer’s explanation that FLYING AWARD (IRE) was suited by the drop in class and drier ground conditions.
4.30, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Conor Shoemark, the rider of the winner, RUGGED JACK (FR) had used his whip in the forehand position in the home straight. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Rule (B)54.2 and guilty of improper riding in that he had used his whip contrary to the Conditions of the Race. They suspended him for 7 days on dates to be notified to him by the British Horseracing Authority.
04/03/2014
Southwell, 4 March 2014
2.40, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference just after the four furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that STAFF SERGEANT, placed third, ridden by Andrew Mullen, had interfered with ENCORE UN FOIS, placed fourth, ridden by James Sullivan. The Stewards found Mullen in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he manoeuvred to his right. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Tuesday 18 March 2014.
3.10, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, ON THE CUSP (IRE), ridden by William Carson, had interfered with OPUS (IRE), placed second, ridden by Luke Morris, who in turn interfered with REACH THE BEACH, placed third, ridden by Stevie Donohoe. They found the interference was accidental.

CHAMPION jockey Tony McCoy has admitted that this year's Cheltenham Festival will be one of his last as the record-breaking rider heads towards his 40th birthday.
McCoy, who hits the milestone in May, has ridden 27 winners at the festival including taking the Gold Cup on Mr Mulligan and Synchronised along with wins in the Champion Chase and Champion Hurdle.
However, in a revealing interview with the Racing Post, McCoy, who is on course for a 19th jockeys' championship and is poised to rocket past 200 winners for the season, said he knows that he is running out of opportunities to ride during jump racing's greatest week.
Talking about retirement, the Grand National-winning rider said: "Sure it is going to happen but is it going to happen in the next two months? I hope not.
"I don't know if this will be my last festival but that's definitely not the plan. I'm not so stupid I don't realise I haven't got many Cheltenham Festivals left but I hope this isn't the final one."
He added: "I'm aware I'm going to have to retire at some point and I want that to happen while I'm still successful and champion jockey."
McCoy produced one of the great Cheltenham rides to win the Gold Cup on Synchronised in 2012 and has been mooted as a possible rider for Triolo D'Alene or Teaforthree in the race this year as he chases a third win in the race.
Whatever ride he takes, McCoy is expecting reigning champion Bobs Worth to be difficult to beat.
"The way Bobs Worth won at Leopardstown was really impressive," he said. "The only worry is it's very hard to win back-to-back Gold Cups, but he hasn't had a hard season. He'll be very difficult to beat." =================================== Big two for O'Connor Leading amateur rider Derek O'Connor has picked up the fancied rides on Shotgun Paddy in the Terry Biddlecombe National Hunt Chase and Indian Castle in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Chase. ============================================= STAND GUARD equalled the record for most all-weather wins with a convincing victory at Southwell, his 25th on artificial surfaces. ========================================== Tent still on track for Cheltenham despite injury scare MY TENT OR YOURS has sustained a "little puncture wound" in one of his feet but the injury is not expected to prevent him from running in the Stan James Champion Hurdle next week, trainer Nicky Henderson said on Tuesday. ========================================
