Plumpton, 13 January 2014
Due to false ground, the first fence in the home straight in all steeple chase races has been omitted.
Furthermore, the Stewards gave permission for the omission of the first fence in the back straight in all steeple chase races, due to false ground.
1.00, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of SPARTILLA, ridden by Mr J. Pearce and trained by Daniel O’Brien, which appeared to be tenderly handled throughout and raced in last place before keeping on from the third last to finish sixth, beaten some 39¼ lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer’s representative. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated his instructions were to ensure that the horse was settled in the early stages to give him the best chance of finishing the race well, as he pulled too hard in his last race. The trainer’s representative confirmed these instructions but stated that he felt Mr Pearce may have sat too far back in the field. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)59.4 and guilty of failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. They suspended him for 10 days as follows: dates to be notified by the British Horseracing Authority.
The Stewards held a further enquiry to consider why Daniel O’Brien, the trainer of SPARTILLA, had failed to report the fact that the horse had scoped dirty following its run at Plumpton on 16 December 2013 where the horse finished seventh, beaten 30½ lengths, which only came to light following the enquiry into the Running and Riding of SPARTILLA in this race. Having heard his evidence the stewards found him in breach of Rule (C)34.1 and fined him £290.
3.30, sixth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, VIRGINIA ASH (IRE), ridden by Brendan Powell and trained by Colin Tizzard, compared with its previous run at Chepstow on 7 December 2013 where the gelding finished seventh of thirteen, beaten 34¼ lengths. They noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that the gelding was well suited by this course where he is unbeaten. They ordered VIRGINIA ASH (IRE) to be routine tested.
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Nick Scholfield, the rider of NIGHT OF PASSION (IRE), placed second, from the fourth last. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Scholfield for 2 days as follows: Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 January 2014.
4.00, seventh race
The Stewards gave permission for the first hurdle in the back straight to be omitted due to false ground.

Lingfield Park, 13 January 2014
12.15, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Starter that MIDNIGHT FEAST, trained by Lee Carter, was the subject of a third criteria failure. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test. This being the second occasion within the previous 12 months that MIDNIGHT FEAST had been reported, the Stewards informed the trainer that if the gelding were reported for a third time within the same period, MIDNIGHT FEAST would be prevented from having a stalls test for 6 months.
12.45, second race
The Stewards noted that TEEN AGER (FR), unplaced, had interfered with SWEET MARWELL (IRE), unplaced, which then interfered with PRETTY BUBBLES, placed second, shortly after the start, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
1.15, third race
The Stewards noted that TOTAL OBSESSION, unplaced, had interfered with DELIGHTFUL SLEEP, unplaced, which then interfered with MOJO BEAR, placed fourth, on leaving the stalls, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
The Stewards also noted that KILBURN, unplaced, had interfered with DELIGHTFUL SLEEP, unplaced, inside the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
2.20, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference at the three furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, THE BLUE DOG (IRE), ridden by Joe Doyle, had interfered with THE HOLYMAN (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Adam Kirby, which then interfered with NAVE (USA), ridden by George Buckell, placed third. The Stewards found Doyle in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed the mare to drift left without taking corrective action. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Monday, 27 January 2014.
2.50, sixth race
The Stewards noted that BRETHERTON, placed second, had interfered with MISS GLORIOSO, unplaced, which then interfered with MINNIE MIRACLE, unplaced, at the start, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved BRETHERTON’s placing.
3.50, eighth race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference approaching the furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that GO FAR, placed third, ridden by Robert Winston, had interfered with ICEBLAST, place fourth, ridden by Adam Kirby, and that the interference had not improved GO FAR’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered. The Stewards found Winston in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift left. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Monday, 27 January 2014.
13/01/2014
Wolverhampton, 13 January 2014
2.40, second race
The record of vaccinations in the passport of STAR LINKS (USA), trained by Shane Donohoe, did not comply with the Rules of Racing. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Rule (E)18 and fined him £ 140
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that STASIO (USA), placed third, ridden by Liam Keniry, had interfered with YOJOJO (IRE), unplaced, ridden by David Probert and then, FRONTIER FIGHTER, unplaced, ridden by S.H. James. The Stewards found Keniry in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed the gelding to drift right causing interference. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 January 2014.

Staying at the west country track, Cheat The Cheater may be able to capitalise on a falling mark and drop in grade in what should be a bit of a 3 mile slog. He looks a real stayer and this track is likely to suit in that sense, though this is only the 2nd time he's been right-handed in 12 starts. His early career form isn't to be sniffed at and this does look a week race for its class. Gerald Quinn and trainer Claire Dyson have been in top form of late and he shouldn't be a 12/1 shot, especially given conditions that should suit. Roseneath has every right to be favourite in a race without strength in depth but he's been held off this mark in 3 starts and that doesn't give him the right to be 9/4, even with the champ up. Cornish Ice would be the other I'd have a go at but I'd have the selection at 2nd favourite and he's currently a great deal bigger than most. Exeter 14.35 - Cheat The Cheater 1pt e/w
I was hoping to find a really tasty price to have a go at in the lucky last but it just isn't possible. There are some big prices but they come from seriously lacking in form horses and the best I can recommend, in another weakish looking race, is the 10/1 about Admiral Blake. He has gone well here over shorter and indicated at the end of last season that he was suited to nearer 3 miles than 2. It was a bit of a surprise to see him over 2 miles 1 at Chepstow on reappearance but, as he was pulled up, he is a better price today than he should be on the strength of last season's form. Dougie Costello clearly gets on well with him and I hope this becomes a bit of a test as he will be ridden out the back and I think he'll stay. He certainly goes in the ground. I'm not convinced this is the trip Dungeness wants, though he will enjoy conditions and will be a danger if allowed to dominate as he was over 2 miles last time out. This could be the race in which to catch Nicene Creed, who is consistent without looking like winning all that often. The other bet of interest is Cathcher Star who won in a decent time at Wetherby and looked as though a step up in trip would suit. Exeter 16.10 - Admiral Blake 1pt e/w
Another impressive midweek card at Exeter this afternoon and I like the chances of 7/1 shot Milarrow in the opener. He is a course and distance winner that has dropped to a likeable mark and goes on the ground. Preference would perhaps be for a slightly sounder surface underfoot but he has struggled to see out expended trips of late and a good test back at 2 miles 1 and a half furlongs should see him to better effect. The yard ended a run of 2nds yesterday at Plumpton and Brendan Powell's form on this 7 year old reads 312. It should be run at a decent pace with plenty that like to race prominently, Milarrow being one of them, and that could suit the Dan Skelton charge Ballincurrig who would be the other of interest at the prices. Royal Riviera is likely to find something too good whilst course performer Ray Diamond has a big chance but not as good as his 3/1 price would suggest. Exeter 12.55 - Milarrow 1pt e/w
The feature at Exeter is the Veterans race and it's the 3 12 year olds, the proper veterans, who make most appeal. Triggerman has the very useful claimer Thomas Cheesman on his back but this is a step up in class and 5/1 is too short. Most likely winner and justified favourite is Tullamore Dew for the team that were successful at Plumpton yesterday. His Rowland Meyrick 2nd, albeit by a held 10 lengths, gives him the right to win this now eased a further 3lb. However, I can't not have Richard's Sundance, who I repeatedly got wrong last season, at 13/2. It is a step up in class and he will need to win off a mark he hasn't been successful from for 4 years but at least we don't have to worry about anything unexposed getting him today. He loves testing conditions and is 310U11 here, including being undefeated at the trip here on completed starts. He goes fresh, has won twice fresh here, and has a decent record with Jack Doyle doing the steering. The yard isn't really in top gear this term but course form is a bigger factor than yard form for me and he's a safe bet to be in the frame. Exeter 15.40 - RIchard's Sundance 1pt e/w ========================================= DAILY MAIL.

Triple Investec Coronation Cup winner St Nicholas Abbey has died following a bout of colic. St Nicholas Abbey: Died after brave battle The son of Montjeu, who also won a Breeders' Cup Turf, Dubai Sheema Classic and Racing Post Trophy during a glittering career with Aidan O'Brien, had been retired to Coolmore Stud. He was fighting for his life in 2013 after suffering from laminitis but was showing signs of making a full recovery. A statement issued by Coolmore Stud read: "Regretfully St Nicholas Abbey has lost his brave battle after suffering a colic this morning. Surgery revealed a severe strangulating colon torsion that was unviable and he had to be euthanized on humane grounds. "This is extremely unfortunate as St Nicholas Abbey had been in terrific form, the laminitis was resolving very well and the fracture had healed better than expected. "Coolmore would like to thank the surgeons, the international experts and all the staff at Fethard Equine Hospital who gave him such excellent care 24/7. We would also like to thank the multitude of well-wishers for all the cards and messages of support for St Nicholas Abbey. He will be buried in the graveyard here at Coolmore."

Dynaste is on target to run at the Cheltenham Festival despite still receiving treatment after returning from his run in the King George sore behind. Dynaste and Tom Scudamore in action David Pipe's grey ran a storming race on his seasonal reappearance when second to Cue Card in the Betfair Chase. However, he never looked that happy at Kempton on Boxing Day and while his condition is improving, he is still not quite ready to return. Pipe has given his inmate entries in both the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Ryanair Chase and an outing in March remains the plan. "I am able to give you an update on Dynaste following his run in the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day," wrote Pipe in his blog on www.davidpipe.com. "He is improving steadily (but is not yet 100%) and is still receiving regular treatment from Mary Bromiley. "He has been given an entry in the Ryanair Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup at the Festival and he is still very much on target to run in one of those contests." One in better heart at the yard is the unbeaten Red Sherlock, who stretched his running run to five at Wetherby on Saturday and is due to be upped in class later this month.

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, FRANKTHETANK (IRE), ridden by Tom Eaves and trained by Keith Dalgleish, which had never previously been placed. ===================================== 14:10 Wednesday 15th January Racing Tips - 15/01/2014
Restless Harry is something of a problem because he is a nice prospect at Newbury this afternoon but a terrible price. He may well win if finally completing, having unseated on his last 2 outings, but he was gambled both those times and the secret is very much out. You now have to be brave to back a horse with his dubious form at 4/1, for all that he is well weighted. I think it's wise to go with something 'moving' in these races, either the Restless Harry way down the handicap or a real improver and Financial Climate fits that description well. He won well here last time over and extra few furlongs but this drop back to 3 miles shouldn't inconvenience. He's proved he goes on testing ground and an 8lb rise, though potentially harsh on the face of it, may not be enough to stop him. He's 6/1 which is a little bigger than I thought it may be and well worth snapping up. At an even bigger price it may be worth having a nibble at bottom-weight Bendant, though you'd have to imagine he will find something too good. Newbury 14.25 - Financial Climate 1pt e/w
Over at Newcastle there's a certain Rolecarr who was put up here last time out. I'd recommend a bet at an each way price but he does look as though something may again be too good back off the same mark and in the same conditions as last time. Best bet there could be Big Society at 10/1 who returns to middle distance hurdling after struggling to see out 3 miles on 2 recent starts. He hasn't resumed this term in the same form but drops in class in what looks a relatively ordinary race. Eased 6lb since 2nd on handicap debut at Ludlow, he has a good record with Paddy Brennan on top and is a heavy ground winner over a furlong shorter. The yard had a terrible Saturday but that looks more a blip than poor form in general. I'm tempted by Tikkandemickey who brings solid form into this but isn't a stronger fancy than the selection and yet is shorter in the market. Newcastle 14.10 - Big Society 1pt e/w ======================================

Frankie Dettori is poised to return to competitive action next week after riding work for Jeremy Noseda in Newmarket on Tuesday morning. Dettori: Set to return next week The Italian put in a surprise appearance on Warren Hill when riding smart gelding Consign in Noseda's second lot and left Shalfleet stable buzzing with excitement ahead of his comeback. Dettori has been on the sidelines since fracturing his ankle in a freak fall at Nottingham early in October, days before he was due to partner Treve in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. The filly's impressive victory rubbed only further salt into Dettori's wounds, but he does at least have the consolation of knowing that he will be back to resume his partnership with Treve this season, as well as a host of other top-class horses owned by Sheikh Johann Al Thani's Al Shaqab racing operation. After riding work, Dettori was straight on the phone to Al Shaqab's recently-appointed racing advisor Harry Herbert. "He was wonderfully upbeat and delighted to be back in action," Herbert told Sportinglife.com. "I think the plan is for him to have his first race back on the All-Weather for Jeremy next week and he can't wait. It's great to hear the enthusiasm in his voice. "His next job is to come with me to South-West France for a couple of days where we'll have a look at all of the Al Shaqab horses that are based there and get an early feel as to where we're going with them this year. "Just as he was doing last year before the injury, Frankie will be doing a bit of travelling to France when he needs to if one of the Al Shaqab horses is in action, but he'll also be looking to pick up as many rides as he can in Britain." However, it may take some time for Dettori to be back on board one of the owner's marquee horses, with none of the likes of Olympic Glory, Toronado or Treve set to return to action until the turf season is more fully underway. "We have one possible runner in the Dubai Carnival and that's Mshawish, trained by Mikel Delzangles, who was fourth in the St James's Palace Stakes last year," Herbert went on. "He's due to run there later this week and could then go for a Group Two at Doha in Qatar, and if he won we might look for a race on World Cup day, but most of the other big names won't be back for a while yet, as we're concentrating upon races later in the year. "In fact, the vast majority of the Al Shaqab horses are two and three-year-olds, so it's very much an operation that has the future in mind and with three or four notable exceptions, I think it could be next year that things really take off. "We've got about 30-35 two-year-olds, including a number with Richard Hannon, but others with Luca Cumani, Richard Fahey, Marco Botti and in France, and there are some really exciting types among them, including some possible early ones that might be Royal Ascot horses."

Ruby Walsh is more keen to see how Big Buck's performs on his eagerly-awaited return in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham on Saturday week than be drawn into the debate about who should be riding the staying great. Big Buck's: Due to return in the Cleeve Hurdle Walsh has partnered the 11-year-old to 16 of his 18 consecutive victories, including his record-breaking four triumphs in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. However, with Walsh now fully committed to Willie Mullins, Big Buck's will have a new rider at Cheltenham later this month and it emerged last week Sam Twiston-Davies would come in for the plum ride. Trainer Paul Nicholls explained his decision over the weekend, stating he felt number one rider Daryl Jacob saw the ride as "something of a poisoned chalice" as Big Buck's makes his first appearance since December 2012. Walsh told Racing UK: "It all depends on how Big Buck's comes back in the Cleeve Hurdle. If he's the horse that won in Newbury 14 months ago, it doesn't really matter who is riding him. He doesn't take much riding. He's a very good horse and I'd be more interested in seeing how the horse is. "You'd cut your right hand off to ride a horse like Big Buck's. That's a choice I made. He's an exceptional horse, he's a standard-bearer in jump racing and he's an exciting ride for Sam Twiston-Davies."

The first foal sired by the great Frankel has been born, his owners Juddmonte Farms confirmed on Wednesday. Frankel: First goal born at stud in Ireland Dual Group-winning mare Chrysanthemum produced an attractive bay colt at 20.30 on Saturday 11th January 2014 at Coolmore Stud in Ireland. The stud reported that the foal is a handsome colt with a good head, a white blaze and great presence. Juddmonte Farms General Manager Philip Mitchell commented: "From the reports that I have received Frankel's first foal is everything we could have hoped for. These are very exciting times for everyone who has supported the horse and we much look forward to the rest of his first crop of foals." Chrysanthemum was the first mare scanned in foal to Frankel last year, and this is her first foal. Frankel, trained by the late Sir Henry Cecil, retired from the track in October 2012 after taking his 100% record to 16 with victory in the Qipco Champion Stakes. Other top mares he has already attracted include Alexander Goldrun, Danedream, Dar Re Mi, Midday, Stacelita and Vodka. The son of Galileo, now a six-year-old, mated with 133 mares between February and June in 2013 at £125,000 a time. The coverings yielded around £15million, with his potential stud earnings estimated at £100m plus. His covering fee remains unchanged for 2014

Lingfield Park, 15 January 2014
12.30, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference in the last half furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, LA ESTRELLA (USA), ridden by Graham Lee, had interfered with WHILE YOU WAIT (IRE), placed second, ridden by Sean Levey and that the interference had not improved LA ESTRELLA (USA)’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered. The Stewards found Lee in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift right. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Wednesday 29 January 2014.
1.00, second race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the fall of Kristy French the rider of MARTI’S BOY, inside the final furlong. They were unable to interview French owing to her injuries. Having viewed recordings of the incident the Stewards were satisfied that no other horse or rider was involved and, therefore, took no further action.
2.00, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference on the first bend. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that WINDSHIELD, unplaced, ridden by Liam Jones, had interfered with CONCOCT (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Richard Kingscote who then interfered with LAGUNA BELLE, unplaced, ridden by Fergus Sweeney. They found the interference was accidental.
2.35, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference on the run to the line. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, JAZZY LADY (IRE), ridden by Adam Kirby, had interfered with SAMTU (IRE), placed second, ridden by Luke Morris and that the interference had not improved JAZZY LADY (IRE)’s placing. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered. They found the interference was accidental.
3.45, seventh race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference shortly after the start. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that PROPER CHARLIE, unplaced, ridden by Paige Bolton, had interfered with GREEN MILLIONAIRE, unplaced, ridden by David Parkes. The Stewards found Bolton in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that she allowed her mount to drift left. They suspended her for 2 days as follows: Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 January 2014.
15/01/2014
Newcastle, 15 January 2014
The BHA gave permission for hurdle 4 to be omitted in all hurdle races due to ground conditions.
2.10, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the apparent improvement in form of the winner, BIG SOCIETY (IRE), ridden by Paddy Brennan and trained by Tom George, compared with its previous run at Haydock Park on 21 December 2013 where the gelding finished unplaced, beaten approximately 29¼ lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that BIG SOCIETY (IRE) benefited from a drop back in trip to two and a half miles and had regained enthusiasm having lost his confidence in steeplechases earlier in the season.
3.20, sixth race
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, WOLF SHIELD (IRE), ridden by Barry Keniry and trained by George Moore, compared with its previous run at Doncaster on 14 December 2013 where the gelding finished fifth, beaten approximately 30½ lengths. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form. They ordered WOLF SHIELD (IRE) to be routine tested.
15/01/2014
Newbury, 15 January 2014
3.35, sixth race
The record of vaccinations in the passport of ISKRABOB, trained by Philip Hide, did not comply with the Rules of Racing. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Rule (E)18 and fined him £140.
15/01/2014
Kempton Park, 15 January 2014
4.25, first race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Jimmy Quinn, the rider of CHANDRAYAAN, placed third, from inside the two furlong marker. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Quinn for 2 days as follows: Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 January 2014.
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Luke Morris, who was declared to ride ERMYNTRUDE had failed to arrive in time to weigh out. Having heard his evidence they accepted his explanation that there had been a lengthy delay to racing at Lingfield due to an injured rider, which resulted in him foregoing his declared ride in the 3.10 race in an attempt to arrive at Kempton in time for his declared rides. Permission was given for Robert Winston to be substituted.
7.25, seventh race
The Stewards noted that LIKE CLOCKWORK, unplaced had interfered with KINDIA (IRE), unplaced, approaching the two furlong marker, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

I'll take 2 in the opener at Wincanton and hope we don't lose one of the 16 lining up. Paul Nicholls has won this before and he sends out a likely favourite today in Minellahalfcentury who was very disappointing on reappearance in November. However, plenty of Nicholls runners have needed the run this year and improved in December/January time and I expect this one to follow suit at around 6/1. He is still shorter than I'd like and probably than he would be if he was from another yard but looks well treated on a course and distance win in novice company back in February. Old Trick must have a chance of pacing at a price but it's tricky to see him winning form this mark, even dropped in grade and for all he loves it here. Kilmurvy is carrying quite a weight for this but is still of interest dropped 1lb from last time. He goes on the ground and may be better suited by racing a little more prominently this afternoon. However, I can't ignore the price about Westaway for the team that won this 2 years ago. He has looked in trouble on both handicaps starts but I think he's a bit of a false stayer and will prefer dropping back in trip on heavy ground…I actually think he'd be better over 2 and a half miles but is worth a pop for this at 16/1. His best effort came behind Cole Harden over 2 and a half on heavy ground at Fontwell and that runner franked the form in taking style at Newbury yesterday. Wincanton 13.20 - Minellahalfcentury 1pt e/w Wincanton 13.20 - Westaway 1pt e/w
There's a really competitive 2 miles 5 furlong chase on the WIncanton card but I still think Bennys Mist should be a stronger favourite than he is currently. We know what solid form the yard are in and he is completely at home in the conditions. The Becher Chase is a race after which it is easy to forgive a poor run, especially from 1st and 2nd season chasers, and he still gave a better account of himself than he did in last season's Topham. He drops 5lb from his highest handicap mark and his run at Newbury back in March gives him every reason to be shorter than 4/1. There may be some competition for the lead but that is likely to be no bad thing given Bennys Mist is dropping in trip and will want a proper test. Had Victor Dartnall sent out a few more winners then I'd be sweeter on the chances of Mic's Delight. Marie Des Anges could well be better than her current mark but is quite short in the market given that she was pulled up pretty sharply last time out. Wincanton 13.50 - Bennys Mist 1pt win
It's sure to be a proper test over nearly 28 furlongs and that is likely to suit Samstown who drops in class having needed further at the speedier track that is Haydock. Eased 1lb, his fortunes have been somewhat turned around since moving to Alistair Whillans and the yard, yet to really get going this term, have sent out a few decent priced places of late. I fancy Samstown should be a little shorter than 9/2. Main danger will be thorough stayer Red Rocco who is back off the same mark as when2nd at Haydock over slightly further than today. He acts on the ground and didn't really have a chance from out of the weights in the Welsh National. He's not quite as unexposed as the selection though and too close to him in the market. I like Cnoc Seoda at a bigger price who was better for more testing conditions last time but the yard is short on winners and she may not see this out. Wincanton 14.20 - Samstown 1pt win
Meydan is back and there's a nice little turf handicap to have a go at. I think it is so difficult to find the winners of the UAE 1000 and 2000 Guineas trials and they are best left alone. Tha'ir is favourite for the race in question in my book and opens at a generous 6/1. He has usual partner Silvestre De Souse on top and is drawn nicely in stall 1 to hopefully enable him to race prominently, as he likes to. There's not a great deal of pace on show and it may pay to be up there. He drops 4lb from his highest mark back in the UK and is off the same mark as when going close on ground softer than ideal at Doncaster and when 11th in the Cambridgeshire. He looked as though a return to 10 furlongs was needed but was still 4th of 12 in the far side group. Racing on the near side and finishing 2nd overall that day was Code Of Honour who goes up 7lb from his Cambridgeshire mark. He wants good ground and could romp today but is now 16lb higher than his last winning mark. Tha'ir has to be of more interest given the weights and likely running of the race. So Beautiful looks a decent bet for a place at double figures but it's tricky to see him beating the entire field. Meydan 16.15 - Tha'ir 1pt e/w ======================================================= ROBIN GOODFELLOW SELECTIONS...

All of the expected big players figure alongside ace hurdler Big Buck's, as he heads the 29 entries for the £275,000 Grade One Ladbrokes World Hurdle on March 13. Big Buck's: D-day drawing nearer for the superstar hurdler The 11-year-old is undefeated in 18 starts over hurdles in Britain and captured an unprecedented fourth consecutive Ladbrokes World Hurdle at The Festival in 2012. Injury prevented him from defending his crown in 2013, but he is on course to return in the Galliardhomes.com Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham on Saturday week, when he will be ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies for the first time. His trainer Paul Nicholls holds a strong hand with Celestial Halo and Zarkandar, winners of the JCB Triumph Hurdle at The Festival in 2008 and 2011 respectively, also engaged along with improving five-year-old Saphir Du Rheu and Salubrious. Reve De Sivola made it back-to-back wins in the Grade One Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot on December 21, beating Salubrious decisively by 10 lengths. The Nick Williams-trained nine-year-old has been in good form this season and also captured a Grade One contest at Auteuil in early November. He finished fourth in last year's World Hurdle. Williams reported: "Reve De Sivola will definitely go for the Ladbrokes World Hurdle. He is fine at the moment and there have been no problems since Ascot . "I reckon he replicated his performance there from the previous year. For whatever reason, he was just full of himself that day. "He is one of these horses who goes through good spots and bad spots, and it just happens to be that he comes right at Ascot . He loves the course, loves the ground and enjoyed making the running. "I don't know if he will have a prep run. I think last year's Cleeve Hurdle may have taken the edge of him before The Festival, but I don't like going three months without a race and you could say the run at Newbury helped him for the Ascot race - that was a 21-day gap. "The options are the Cleeve and the Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock, but it depends on what other people are doing because you don't want to meet Oscar Whisky-type horses. "He will run in the World Hurdle no matter what the ground is like. Obviously, it will make a slight difference to his chance as he is better on soft ground, but is perfectly okay on good ground." Owner J P McManus could be represented in the World Hurdle by At Fishers Cross, trained in Wales by Rebecca Curtis, and Jonjo O'Neill's lightly-raced six-year-old More Of That. At Fishers Cross was undefeated in six starts last season and captured the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at The Festival, but has been let down by his jumping in two starts this term, while More Of That completed a four-timer when brushing aside Salubrious in the Osborne House Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham on December 14. Willie Mullins houses six of the 10 Irish-trained entries, with star mares Annie Power (3/1) and Quevega heading the sextet. Annie Power, also entered in the Champion Hurdle, is nine from nine under Rules, while Quevega has won the last five renewals of the Grade Two OLBG Mares' Hurdle at The Festival and is more likely to go for a record six-timer this year. Mullins has also entered Grade One-winning hurdlers Boston Bob, Thousand Stars and Zaidpour, as well as French import Rubi Ball. The Irish challenge could also include high-class performer Monksland, who has been off the track for over a year, Dedigout, Mala Beach and Rule The World. Perhaps the most unexpected name among the entries is that of the talented Fingal Bay, a high-class novice hurdler, but unraced since sustaining a tendon injury in a novice chase at Exeter in December 2012 in which he crashed through the running rails three out. Ladbrokes World Hurdle - Sponsors' betting: 2/1 Big Buck's; 3/1 Annie Power; 6/1 More Of That; 8/1 Boston Bob; 12/1 At Fishers Cross, Saphir Du Rheu; 14/1 Monksland, Reve De Sivola; 16/1 Celestial Halo, Zarkandar; 20/1 Fingal Bay, Zaidpour; 25/1 Rubi Ball, Salubrious; 33/1 Cotton Mill, Dedigout, Holywell, Mala Beach, Medinas, Meister Eckhart, Return Spring, Rule The World, Smad Place, Thousand Stars; 50/1 Mickie, Whispering Gallery; 100/1 Awaywiththegreys, Trustan Times. Not Quoted - Quevega.

Katenko will attempt to get his season back on track in the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock Park on Saturday. Katenko: Set to reappear at Haydock Trained by Venetia Williams, the eight-year-old was talked of as a lively outsider for the Cheltenham Gold Cup after a string of impressive performances last season but he was sidelined after winning in January and suffered an attack of colic in the summer. The French bred returned to action in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury in November and was still travelling well when taking a heavy fall at the 14th and then ran well below par when turned out at Aintree just seven days later. He is set to carry 11-8 with Vino Griego, an easy winner of the Future Stars Chase at Sandown in December, topping the handicap with 2lbs more. A total of 10 runners have been declared for the handicap chase over three miles and a furlong and the include Merry King who finished fifth in the Hennessy at Newbury and again in the Welsh National; he is set to wear a visor for the first time. The Minack is scheduled to have his first start in 700 days while course winners Night Alliance, Sydney Paget and Chance Du Roy are all set to face the starter. The line-up is completed by Rehearsal Chase winner second Vintage Star, Wychwoods Brook and Valoroso. Wilson Renwick returns at action at Musselburgh on Friday, 22-days after breaking his collarbone at Wetherby on Boxing Day. Wilson Renwick: Returns at Musselburgh The Hawick-born jockey is booked for four rides at the East Lothian venue and they include Rudemeister for Lucinda Russell in the £12,000 Buy Your 2014 Annual Members Badge Today Handicap Chase. He said: "I know the horse quite well and we won at Hexham over this sort of trip in October. He's coming back after a short break and I think there is still a bit of improvement to come from him." The card's feature race also includes a rare ride at Musselburgh for Robert Thornton who partners Dorset Naga for Anthony Honeyball and two Irish raiders, Partrick Griffin's top-weight Maggio and Robbie Hennessy's Mister First ridden by Richard Johnson. Renwick first mount is Rathvawn Belle in the Cosmic Case Mares' Novices' Hurdle and he added: "It's a very hot mares' race and she has a little bit to find on form. But the track and the trip will suit her and she should run well." Clever Cookie has been partnered by Renwick in all bar one of his four starts and they team up again in the Forth One Boogie In Morning Handicap Hurdle. He said: "I'd say he's my best ride of the day. He won his two bumpers and then he bumped into a couple when second on both his hurdle starts - Nicky Henderson's Full Shift at Newcastle last time and Donald McCain's Franciscan here at Musselburgh. He has a big chance in his first handicap but only time will tell how well he is treated." A P McCoy also heads to Musselburgh for the first time since clocking up his 4,000th success in early November. Six wins from that historic tally were achieved at the Scottish track and the 18-time champion is down for four mounts on the only jumps card of the day in the UK and Ireland.

TIP OF THE DAY Endless rain means Ascot will be heavy to bottomless for tomorrow's Clarence House Chase. Usually for two-mile chasers the emphasis is on speed, but stamina could be more of a factor here and as such the proven stayer Hidden Cyclone stands out. Main market rivals Sire De Grugy and Somersby have questions to answer in these conditions.

Dual Group One winner La Collina is to visit Darley stallion Dubawi after being retired to the paddocks. La Collina (near side): Can look forward to a quieter life The five-year-old was trained by Kevin Prendergast to land the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh as a juvenile, when she defeated the colts, and the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown last September. Her other win from 16 starts came on her debut at Limerick in June 2011. La Collina has gone to owners' Joerg and Diana Vasicek's Kenilworth House Stud at Clonmel in County Tipperary. "She's been retired to stud. She'd done enough. She'd won two Group Ones and she was very consistent," said Prendergast. "She'll be based at the owner's stud in Tipperary, but she'll be going over to visit Dubawi at the stud (Dalham Hall) in England. "She's a good mare, very attractive and please God she can breed a champion by Dubawi." Chris Hayes, her rider for her last six starts, tweeted: "La Collina retired to stud. My first Group One, brilliant mare and I hope she enjoys her time raising champions like her."
