4.10, sixth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference just inside the two furlong marker. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, SWORD OF THE LORD, ridden by William Twiston-Davies, had interfered with MICK DUNDEE (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Adam Kirby. The Stewards found Twiston-Davies in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he had manoeuvred right causing considerable interference to MICK DUNDEE (IRE). The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approaching the final flight of hurdles. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that WOM, placed third, ridden by Trevor Whelan, had interfered with KAYFTON PETE, placed second, ridden by Adam Pogson. The Stewards found Whelan in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that allowed his horse to drift right, thereby causing interference. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, IVEBEENTHINKING, ridden by Felix de Giles and trained by Tom Symonds, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer who stated that the mare worked well at home, but was a temperamental type and he was unable to explain the apparent improvement. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of IVEBEENTHINKING could be reviewed. The Stewards ordered IVEBEENTHINKING to be routine tested.
4.30, sixth race

Hannon chasing record Richard Hannon could clinch the trainers' title this weekend, but a win for one of his three runners at Haydock today will also be significant. It would be his 219th of the year and a personal best.

Good at Cheltenham The going is good at Cheltenham and there could be some Festival pointers even at this early stage. The New One and Chicago Grey are two horses to have won on this card in recent years and also scored the following March.

15:15 Friday 18th October Racing Tips - 18/10/2013
Cheltenham is back today and I can't wait to see Taquin Du Seuil over fences. Whether he wins is another matter but it's always fascinating to see last year's top hurdlers over bigger obstacles for the first time and this one could be very good indeed. Captain Sunshine was a stalwart of this column last term and was very much the nearly horse. He did, however, continue on good form for a yard that was in none and he lines up now with Emma Lavelle absolutely flying. 3lb higher than when staying on in the Pertemps Final here last March, he is a worthy and supportable favourite at 5/1. Viking Blond will be a leading player in first time visor having been 2nd in this last year off just 2lb lower but he doesn't win that often and is a touch exposed. The interesting bet is Restless Harry at 25/1 who returns this season after disappointing for much of last. Never a winner in handicap company, he lines up off 25lb lower than when halfway down the field under top-weight in the 2012 Pertemps Final. That has to be a respected mark if we forgive no sort of effort last time out at Chepstow. He has run well and won first time out before and, as a dual course winner, could make a mockery of his price if back on song in conditions that should suit. Cheltenham 15.15 - Captain Sunshine 1pt win Cheltenham 15.15 - Restless Harry 1pt e/w
Two races over a mile are of most interest at Haydock and the first of those is a 4-runner nursery. I though Art Official would be favourite for this given placed efforts behind the likes of Parbold and Chriselliam but that role goes to the progressive Latenightrequest. Art Official was below par last time out but has a better chance back in handicap company and will be a serious threat if allowed to dominate off 5lb higher than his last win. However, 3 of the 4 like to go forward here and we may see this run at a stronger gallop than expected with only 4 runners. That will play to the strengths of Fahey's tough filly who needs every bit of the trip and should handle the likely rain. She'll need some pace to run at in order to challenge come the finish but that looks likely and 9/4, though the Hannon runner looks the better value, is worth support. Haydock 16.40 - Latenightrequest 3pt win
It might just be time to start taking note of the so far disappointing this season Anton Chigurgh. I fancied him at Royal Ascot before he was withdrawn but he has gone backwards rather than forwards this term. His last win was an eye catching display in a technically stronger race than this over course and distance at the end of last season and he now lines up off 3lb lower. Best of those from the back last time at Ascot, he has plenty to do in order to reverse the form with a few today but looked more his old self 14 days ago and he has a good record with Richard Kingscote on top. The 14/1 about him is of more appeal than the 12's about Gworn, though Ed Dunlop's colt has leading claims. Gold Hunter is probably not done winning this season and he has every chance up at a mile for the first time in a race that will not be run at all that fierce a pace but, at the top of the market, Modern Tutor will take some stopping. He is 7/2 but should enjoy conditions and looks progressive enough to take this off 9lb higher than his last handicap win. Plenty form the Brownsea Brink race in September have gone on to win and, as long as those prominent are not given too much of a start, he should be right there at the finish. Chosen Character has serious claims if allowed to dominate on soft ground but it is very difficult to imagine him seeing off everything else lining up given a strong field of 17. Haydock 17.10 - Modern Tutor 2pt win Haydock 17.10 - Anton Chigurgh 1pt e/w

Hayley Turner fancies the horse involved in the accident that caused her latest spell on the sidelines to prevail on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot. The jockey suffered a heavy fall from Seal Of Approval in the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster's St Leger meeting and was subsequently found to have chipped her pelvic bone.
While Turner remains on the sidelines, Seal of Approval goes in the QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes on Saturday and her regular rider expects the James Fanshawe-trained filly to go well.
Writing in her Racing UK column, Turner said: "She's a really nice filly, and if she doesn't win a big race on Saturday she will next year.
"I obviously came down on her at Doncaster and I do remember she was off the bridle and then grabbed the bit and was just starting to motor when we parted company.
"There is always a worry that horses who fall will lose their confidence but I've spoken to James Fanshawe, who says she is none the worse and in great form. James would not be running her if she was feeling any ill effects."

Richard Fahey's horse-by-horse guide to his Saturday team including three runners on QIPCO Champions Day.
It's been another busy week down at the Tattersalls Sales in Newmarket. As I write this we've got 19 new additions for next year but it's been very hard work.
You're away from the yard for a long time and it's testament to the quality of the staff we have at Musley Bank that we are able to do this. On Monday we had four winners and I was delighted for everyone involved back home. Training racehorses is a real team effort and I'm so lucky to have such fantastic people working for me.
We haven't got many runners on Saturday but three head down to QIPCO Champions Day at Ascot.
The owners were very keen to supplement Heaven's Guest for the QIPCO British Champions Sprint and I was pleased to back the decision. The horse has won £200,000 in prize money this season and we know he handles both cut in the ground and the track down there.
There are three or four stand out horses at the head of the market - and we sit comfortably in among the rest of the field so there's no reason not to go and play our hand. He won a big handicap at the track the last day and goes there in good nick albeit after a long season.
I think the draw could play a big part in the QIPCO Future Stars Apprentice Handicap in which we have two runners. Sir Reginald ran well in the Silver Cup at Ayr and he could be quite well drawn in 16. There's the fresh strip of ground they saved at the last meeting and we could get on it from there.
Majestic Moon has had a good season but I'd be a tad worried if the ground got any softer for him.
The rest of the runners are at Catterick. Allnecessaryforce is a horse I like who's been waiting for soft ground. He gets that in the Win Big With The totejackpot Handicap and I think he'll run very well. He earned himself a bad reputation at Haydock two starts ago when he just cocked his jaw when he saw a kink in the rail shortly after the start but he's a straightforward horse and as I say one I like.
Kalahari Kingdom has been disappointing. We really like him at home but haven't seen that promise on the racetrack yet. He drops in grade for the totequadpot Four Places In Four Races Median Auction Maiden Stakes and he needs to learn to settle. I'd like to see more from him here.
I was frustrated El Viento didn't get in at York last week. He runs in the totepool Mobile Catterick Dash Handicap. Is five furlongs at Catterick where he wants to be? Probably not - but Sammy Bell takes a valuable seven pounds off and the soft ground will help.
Personal Touch is a horse for which nothing has gone right since his win first time out. He has a decent draw in the Your Favourite Pool Bets At totepool.com Handicap and is in good order so I'd hope he'll run well. Chiswick Bey isn't out of it either having won a couple of starts ago but if I had to pick one of mine it would be Personal Touch in the hope things finally fall his way again.

The first Cheltenham fixture of the new national hunt season takes place today and Betfair Ambassador Paul Nicholls saddles four runners. You can read the Ditcheat handler's exclusive thoughts on his quartet of runners here...
14:10 Cheltenham - Saint Roque
The same comments apply to those that I made here last weekend. The horses came in a week later than usual, and I haven't been hard on them. So bear that in mind.
Saint Roque finally came good in the summer and rattled off a quick hat-trick on fast ground. He's had a break in the field since then - we gave him eight weeks off - and I was toying with aiming him at the Persian War. But he loves quick ground, which you are never sure of getting at Chepstow, so we send him here instead and he does go well when fresh. This is a really hot little race though, and you can give all of them a chance.
15:50 Cheltenham - Oscargo
Would have gone close to winning had he not fallen two out at Newton Abbot back in August, and has won here over hurdles. But he looks to face a pretty stiff task, and I imagine that this may be his last run before we put him away until the spring.
16:25 Cheltenham - Lac Fontana
Ran two excellent races on his first starts over hurdles at Newbury and Kempton, so we let him take his chance in the Triumph. He showed that he wasn't ready for that type of challenge, not jumping as well as he can, but he hasn't missed a beat in his work leading up to this and is in good form. I think he will need further than 2m in time, but you have to think that he has obvious winning claims in this company.
17:30 Cheltenham - For Two
Travels really well, but just isn't seeing out his races. And that was again the case when I thought he would go well at Chepstow on Saturday, when his run petered out tamely in the straight. He has the talent to win off a mark of 128, so we try him in a tongue tie here to see if that helps him finish off his race. Win or lose, I suspect that we may sending him chasing after this.

Donald McCain sends three runners south to Cheltenham on Friday as the National Hunt season begins to gather momentum. Here are his exclusive thoughts on each...
14.10 2m5f Novice Hurdle Clondaw Draft
This is obviously a big step up in grade for him but he's been doing it nicely this summer and his jumping was excellent at Bangor the last day - really impressive for a novice. If he continues to jump like that then he has the ability to run very well, even in this better company, but, as much as anything, he's running here as it's hard to find suitable races with a sensible penalty structure. He's got to be upped in class at some stage and this should give us a much better idea as to where we stand with him going forward.
16.25 2m Maiden Hurdle Apollo Eleven
I thought he made a pleasing enough start to his hurdling career at Bangor last month and that form looks solid enough. This is obviously a more competitive race - it's Cheltenham after all - but he's done well at home since that first run and I would like to think he had it in him to run a big race. Paul's horse, Lac Fontana, sets a good standard but we're going there doing our best.
17.30 2m Handicap Hurdle Sud Pacifique
He got crucified by the handicapper for winning a bad race at Stratford as a novice and it took a while for him to get back down to a level where he could be competitive again. He ran really well here when Nick (Slatter) rode him in the spring and he saw things out better than I had initially thought he would. For a small horse, he seems a bit happier at these big, galloping tracks, he won't mind the prevailing conditions and I am hopeful he can go very well.

Sky Bet Racing PR Manager Michael Shinners looks at where the money's likely to go on QIPCO Champions Day at Ascot. Mukhadram: Has plenty in his favour in the Champion Stakes QIPCO Champions Day on Saturday and we're expecting to see plenty of money for Estimate in the opening Long Distance Cup. She of course won the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and while she hasn't been seen out since I'll take that as a positive as she'll be fresh in against a number of exposed types. We could get a result in the QIPCO British Champions Sprint. I just feel Maarek could be vulnerable over six furlongs despite winning this last year and Jack Dexter should go well having been far from disgraced when third in the Ayr Gold Cup under top weight. I'd expect the Fillies & Mares to be one of the lighter betting heats but Nymphea could be over-priced. The German raider isn't well known to British punters but is a leading player on official ratings and could be a bigger price than she should be. Waila is interesting given her powerful connections. She's been off for a while but has reportedly been going well with Dank at home. A number of the main protagonists in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes have been on the go for a while and I wouldn't be shocked if there was a surprise in this. At current odds I'd be happy to take on both Dawn Approach and Soft Falling Rain. The QIPCO Champion Stakes is all about Cirrus Des Aigles who has been well backed all week and is now around the even money mark. Is he really back to the form that saw him win the race two years ago and chase home Frankel last year? We'll see. Money for Mukhadram wouldn't surprise me after his good work at Newmarket last week and he won the Sky Bet York Stakes despite not being at his best. He's another one who's fresh after a break. As for the QIPCO Future Stars Apprentice Handicap...good luck - but we are paying five places each-way if that helps

Gary Moore, Alan King and Paul Henderson are among the trainers hoping for big runs at Cheltenham on Saturday. Life Of A Luso: Runs in the feature Trainer Paul Henderson is keeping his fingers crossed Life Of A Luso can continue to defy the handicapper as he chases his second victory at Cheltenham in the feature Showcase Trophy on Saturday. Since securing his first victory over fences at Newton Abbot in May 2011, the nine-year-old has risen over 30lb in the ratings and is now almost a stone higher in the weights than when striking at Cheltenham in April, Henderson's first winner at Prestbury Park. Life Of A Luso came from a long way back to score on his latest appearance at Newton Abbot in September and Henderson feels the likely strong gallop he will encounter this weekend will bring out the best in his charge. "He seems fine after his win at Newton Abbot - he came home, ate everything up and has taken it in his stride," said the Whitsbury handler. "I thought he put in a good performance at Newton Abbot coming from last to first. I like to run all my horses like that, unless they need to be ridden otherwise, but that is certainly his preferred style and I think he has won all five of his races coming from behind. "He wants a strong gallop and generally you would expect to get that in a competitive race at Cheltenham. He has gone up to 134 in the weights - he was rated 98 when I first ran him over fences - but I still think he can be competitive. "I thought fast ground was important to him, but now the jockeys are saying that he wants a bit of cut in the ground as he's got older and it was on the soft side when he won at Cheltenham in April." Life Of A Luso features in a fiercely competitive 17-runner field, with Sire Collonges heading the weights for the extended three-mile test. Balthazar King, Lost Glory and Well Refreshed are other notable contenders, with the latter making his first appearance since pulling up and having to be dismounted in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown in April. His trainer, Gary Moore, said: "Well Refreshed appears to be fine after Sandown - he was just exhausted - and we want to give him a prep-run before the Hennessy Gold Cup. He was only a novice last season and we hope that he can improve over fences this season." The race will be a landmark for rookie trainer Dan Skelton as the former Paul Nicholls assistant has his first runner of the home of jumps racing. The Warwickshire handler saddles the in-form French import Mister Grez on the back of an convincing victory on his British debut at Ffos Las a week ago. "Mister Grez reappears quickly and of course you would love three weeks between races, but we have the chance of running in a £50,000 handicap off 10st and you have got to grip that with both hands," said Skelton. "I have been happy with how he has come out of the race, otherwise I wouldn't be running him, but you have always got to be cautious of a horse who only ran six days ago. "I thought he would go well at Ffos Las, but I wasn't expecting him to win by 18 lengths and I liked the way he jumped and travelled through the race. "When we bought him, I said to the owners that he will appreciate a step up to three miles because the programme in France doesn't really support that calibre of horse. I would prefer to go three miles after a month's break but, on paper, he has a very live chance. "All of his form at Auteuil is on heavy, but he has been showing a preference for the better ground at home and I am happy to run him on good or good to soft. "He is still at the right end of the handicap for this season and we intended to have plenty of fun with him this year. It's brilliant to be able to have my first runner at Cheltenham and I am really looking forward to it." Earlier in the afternoon, 16 horses are set to go to post for the two-and-a-half-mile Equus-Fine Dining At The Festival Handicap Chase. Moore is looking forward to saddling stable stalwart Vino Griego. He said: "I think that two and a half miles suits Vino Griego well and I need to get a run into him before the Paddy Power Gold Cup next month. He ran two very good races at Cheltenham last season and his second in the Byrne Group Plate was a fantastic performance." Alan King admits Kumbeshwar has no secrets from the handicapper, but is hoping for a bold show all the same. The trainer said: "I think that he will be fine over two and a half miles. The plan later in the season is to step him up to three miles, so I would hope that he will get the trip on Saturday. "He is fairly well exposed - he's not well handicapped - but we have to live with that and we certainly haven't hidden him away. We will see how he gets on this weekend before deciding where to aim him next." The seven-race card is opened by the Jools Holland Here On 9th November Novices' Hurdle, with Tom George's Kilbree King, Martin Keighley's Creepy and the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Oscar Magic all major contenders. Also featuring in the 10-strong field is Michael Scudamore's Welsh National hero Monbeg Dude, who has not been seen since pulling up in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Scudamore said: "He has done really well over the summer - he has strengthened up and looks like he has come on a little bit. We are really pleased with him. "He has had a couple of schooling sessions, which went really well and should hopefully put him in good stead for the rest of the season. "We gave him an entry in a novices' hurdle because he seems ready to run and there is little in terms of staying chasing opportunities at this time of the season. We can make use of the fact that he is a novice and build his season from there. "The whole season will be made around the Welsh National again. If everything went fine there and he jumped well, then we would have a look at Aintree (Grand National) if everybody's happy."

The Ryder Cup, Senior TT Trophy and F1 Driver's Championship Trophy are late additions to the stellar line-up of famous sporting trophies on display at Ascot, together worth over £1 million. Some of the trophies on display at Ascot Many of the world's most famous sporting trophies, including The FA Cup, The Ashes urn, the Rugby League Challenge Cup, the Calcutta Cup, the Jules Rimet 1966 Football World Cup and the Ryder Cup will be on display at a special one-day exhibition at Ascot Racecourse on QIPCO British Champions Day (19th October). Stringent security arrangements and specialist insurance cover have been necessary for the trophies which together are worth over £1 million. The full list is as follows: • The Jules Rimet Trophy (won by Bobby Moore's England team at the 1966 World Cup) • The FA Cup (Wigan Athletic) • The Ashes urn and Waterford Crystal Trophy (England) • The Rugby League Challenge Cup (Wigan Warriors) • The Calcutta Cup (England) • The World Snooker Championship Trophy (Ronnie O'Sullivan) • The Ryder Cup (Europe) • The Senior TT Trophy (John McGuinness) • The F1 Driver's Championship Trophy (Lewis Hamilton/McLaren) • The Sid Waddell Trophy (PDC World Darts - Phil Taylor) • A signed Team Sky Jersey • The European Player of the Year Award - Ballon d'Or - won by Michael Owen (plus 5 other awards) • The Champion Jump Jockey Trophy (AP McCoy) • The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award (AP McCoy) • The Champion Flat Jockey Trophy (Richard Hughes) • The Champion Flat Trainer Trophy (John Gosden) • The Champion Flat Owner Trophy (Godolphin) • The Champion Jump Trainer Trophy (Nicky Henderson) • The Cartier Horse of the Year Awards (2) for Frankel (plus 9 other trophies) • The silver salver for the 2013 QIPCO Champion Stakes. This one-day public display aims to celebrate many of the most significant achievements in British sport, both recent and historical, on a day when British horseracing decides its champions of the season. The last time so many national sporting trophies were displayed together was over half a century ago at an exhibition in London in 1956. Rod Street, Chief Executive of British Champions Series, said, "QIPCO British Champions Day has, in just two short years, become one of the world's most important race days so it's fitting that some of the most iconic trophies from other sports are on show alongside racing's most coveted prizes. "Champions Day is one of the highlights of the autumn sporting calendar and the exhibition celebrates the sporting achievements of some of our greatest champions. We're indebted to the organisations and individuals who've agreed to participate, ensuring that our Day is a true celebration of Great British sport." Security arrangements for the exhibition are under wraps as the trophies on display are so valuable. This has required specialist insurance cover arranged by leading private client broker Weatherbys Hamilton.
