19:40 Tuesday 15th October Racing Tips - 15/10/2013
There's every chance that Peace Seeker will be allowed to dominate in the Kempton feature handicap this evening but Ask The Guru should ensure company up top and may just force the Carson gelding to go a little faster than he'd like. There's not a huge amount of pace on offer though and that may put paid to the chances of Panther Patrol who is otherwise well treated on the basis of his form last time out. A stronger pace would mean I'd back Banovallum at 25/1 who has never contested sprint trips but he will surely struggle to go with them if the early fractions are relatively lenient. The 2 I really like are Pivotal Moment and Apollo D'Negro. The former has won on the all weather over a furlong further off 4lb lower but looked suited back at 6 furlongs last time out. He will, however, want more of a test than he faced that day behind Magic Secret, who made all, and that's not guaranteed. Preference is for the slightly out of form Clive Cox yard, though both he and Ryan Tate had a big handicap 2nd at the weekend with Seeking Magic. Apollo D'Negro has a 100% record over course and distance and is only 3lb higher than when winning here in May. He drops in class to contest this and should perhaps be shorter than 8/1 given that record here. Kempton 19.40 - Apollo D'Negro 1pt e/w
Take The Lead must have a win in her off her current mark and is a reasonably strong favourite back over course and distance from a recent 2nd off this mark (in a good time and ahead of Kylladdie). However, 2 recent 2nds have been the result of not being allowed an uncontested lead and the same is likely to be the case today so I'm not that keen at 7/2. With 3 or 4 that like to go forward here, it may be worth looking at a hold up horse and that flags up the likes of Captain Scooby, Street Power and Kylladdie. Athletic also fits into that category but his form has mainly come held up over further and this may be too big an ask. Street Power could be anything with a yet-to-win apprentice on top off a lowly mark. Steve Golllings sends out Kyladdie, who looks the most likely winner if they go a decent clip, and the trainer has a super record at Kempton whilst finding winners hard to come by this term. I think it's worth chancing Captain Scooby at 12/1 who is 3lb below his last winning mark but he doesn't do it that often. He was staying on at Southwell off this mark in August and went close on preferred soft ground at Redcar in this class. Outpaced over 5 furlongs last time out, a truly run 6 furlongs should suit and, if you go back far enough, he has a strong record here. Kempton 18.40 - Captain Scooby 1pt e/w

TIP OF THE DAY With 3 or 4 that like to go forward, it may be worth looking at a hold up horse in Kempton's 18:40. One such is Captain Scooby at 12/1 who is 3lb below his last winning mark but he doesn't do it that often. He was staying on at Southwell off this mark in August and went close on preferred soft ground at Redcar in this class. Bolger reports Dawn Approach to be in good form ahead of his run in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. Dawn Approach: Getting the thumbs up as he gets ready for the QEII The QIPCO 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes winner has recovered from sickness which followed his disappointing run in the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville in August. On that occasion he finished eight lengths behind Moonlight Cloud and Olympic Glory, with the latter seemingly sure to take him on again on Saturday. "Dawn Approach is very well and we are very happy with him," said Bolger on Tuesday morning, as he prepares his stable star for Europe's richest mile race. "I am hopeful that he will be able to cope with the softer ground but we won't be sure until after the race." He has encountered yielding ground in Ireland and good-to-soft in the UK, but never softer than that, though the straight course at Ascot does drain particularly well. The going is currently good-to-soft on the straight course with a dry day forecast for the rest of Tuesday. He could yet have his fourth encounter with Toronado, which Dawn Approach leads 2-1, though that will depend on how much rain falls between now and Saturday with Toronado appreciating good or faster ground. Looking to his runner in the QIPCO Champion Stakes, the Irish Derby winner, Trading Leather, Bolger said: "Trading Leather is very well but we are very concerned about the ground with him." French star Cirrus des Aigles is a strong favourite as he bids to win his second QIPCO Champion Stakes with Godolphin's Farhh likely to be his biggest market rival.

Dean Ivory feels Sirius Prospect has plenty in his favour as the five-year-old bids to improve on last year's third in the Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. Sirius Prospect: Returning to Ascot The Gone West gelding tends to be at his peak in the autumn, relishes cut in the ground and has shown he acts on the Berkshire track. One of his career-best performances came in this Group Two prize over six furlongs 12 months ago when he was third to Maarek and Ivory reports his charge to be in the form of his life. "He's spot on and did a nice bit of work this morning. He's been third in the race before, he likes Ascot and they've changed the ground to soft, which will suit him," said the Radlett trainer. "He's always better in the autumn. He's working well and we just want to keep all the coughs and colds away." Mass Rally is another horse who has decent course form and that is one of the reasons connections are going to turn him out agan quickly after he won the Coral Sprint Trophy at York last weekend. "The plan is we will run him because he deserves to," the six-year-old's trainer Michael Dods told At The Races. "On his day he can take on the best, but he doesn't have his day too often. He needs everything to go right," "It's a big pot. I knew the owner is pretty keen. It's a long old winter so he's keen to let him take his chance." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gary Moore is looking forward to seeing talented chasers Well Refreshed and Vino Griego make their seasonal returns at Cheltenham on Saturday. Vino Griego (left): Cheltenham hopeful Exciting second season chaser Well Refreshed is due to line up in the £50,000 Showcase Trophy (3.45pm) over an extended three miles. The nine-year-old rattled off a hat-trick of handicap chase wins last term, culminating with a 10-length success in the Betfred Grand National National Trial at Haydock Park in February. He was pulled up on his final start of the campaign in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown Park at the end of April. Vino Griego, who is on course for the two and a half-mile £50,000 Equus-Fine Dining At The Festival Handicap Chase (2.35pm), also enjoyed a highly productive campaign over fences last season. The eight-year-old took the Timeform Novices' Handicap Chase by 19 lengths on Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham in January and followed up with victory in a Listed handicap chase at Ascot the following month. He ran another excellent race at the Home of Jump Racing when chasing home Carrickboy in the Byrne Group Plate at The Festival before ending his campaign when fifth in the Grade Two Mildmay Novices' Chase at Aintree's Grand National meeting. Moore, who trains in West Sussex, said: "Well Refreshed and Vino Griego are intended runners at Cheltenham - the only reason why they wouldn't run would be if the ground was quicker than good. "Well Refreshed appears to be fine after Sandown - he was just exhausted - and we want to give him a prep-run before the Hennessy Gold Cup. He was only a novice last season and we hope that he can improve over fences this season. "I think that two and a half miles suits Vino Griego well and I need to get a run into him before the Paddy Power Gold Cup (at The Open on November 16) next month. "He ran two very good races at Cheltenham last season and his second in the Byrne Group Plate was a fantastic performance." A total of 22 entries for the Showcase Trophy also includes Festival winner Balthazar King, who has won the two previous renewals of the handicap chase, and last season's Welsh National hero Monbeg Dude. The Equus-Fine Dining At The Festival Handicap Chase has also attracted 22 entries including Tingle Creek Chase second Kumbeshwar, the 2011 Johnny Henderson Grand Annual victor Oiseau de Nuit and French import Vif Argent.

McCoy joining radio team
Tony McCoy is to join BBC Radio 5 live as a regular racing pundit later this month.
The 18-times champion jockey will feature in a Friday night spot with host Dan Walker from October 18, discussing his views on the week's news as well as previewing the upcoming action.
McCoy will also front a special audience show on the station once he has ridden his 4,000th winner, as well as other as-yet unconfirmed programmes over the next year.
The rider said: "I'm looking forward to chatting to Dan Walker every week about the Premier League, assessing Arsenal's performance - it's a big season for them. Oh, and chatting about racing too, obviously."
Richard Burgess, BBC head of radio sport added: "Its fantastic to have AP as a regular contributor to 5 live sport.
"Racing is a very important part of 5 live's sport output and this addition to our team means our audiences will get a regular insight from one of the sport's greats."
