always chasing winner, ridden approaching 2 out, close 2nd when slightly hampered last, not quicken
Only hurdle success to date came in a NH at Hereford in February ’08. Seemed to be getting back on track last month however, with 3 placed efforts and may benefit from the step up in trip.

Looked the part when apprentice ridden and turning out a comfortable enough winner at Taunton lto. However, that was over 25f and it’s a significant drop back in trip today, plus his previous form had been nothing to write home about.

always prominent, ridden to lead 2 out, soon edged left, hit last, headed last stride
Might have got off the mark lto had he not hit the last. Certainly it was his best effort in 6 hurdle starts to date. Pushed well up in class today, but worth considering, although I would have been happier with better jockey/trainer stats.
Others:
Cnoc Moy – McCoy has a good record at Exeter, as well as a good record for Sherwood, who alas is not as adept with his hurdlers at the Devon track. Step up in trip for CM today and he has not won since scoring at Wincanton in March last year; seems unlikely to me.
Mickmacmagoole – won over 20f under today’s amateur at Taunton in November and while he runs off a 7lb higher mark he will actually carry less physical weight today. The fast ground will be a new experience for the previous course winner however, which tempers any enthusiasm for him, especially as he has disappointed in his three starts since.
Morning Heights – has shown little in three starts in novice company to date, but trainer has a superlative record in handicap hurdles here, so one to note perhaps on his hcap debut with conditions that should suit.
Not the greatest field for a class 3 hurdle but I would expect the winner to come from those above. I’m not at all sure I’d want to take a short price about Quaddick Lake however, given the drop back in trip and his previous poor form (even under Timmy). My three against the field here would be Tampa Boy and the maidens Bolton Hall and Morning Heights.

took keen hold, led after 1f, set steady gallop, hard pressed and ridden over 2f out, kept finding extra till header near finish
Marajaa (+3) was 2.5l 6th
Best effort for a good many moons lto, though it’s many, many, many moons since he last won. Hardly consistent, but runs off 9lb lower than his best AW winning mark and would have some sort of chance if reproducing lto form.

Somewhat infrequent winner and has run 17 times since getting his head in front last May. Making first visit to Kempton and trainer has not done well with his older horses here. Not too happy with a 7lb claimer in the saddle either.

chased winner after 100 yards, ridden 3f out, clear of rest over 1f out but no impression
Has run consistently enough this winter, winning at Lingfield in January and catching a tartar over C&D here lto. Is off a 7lb higher mark than for January win, though carries the same physical weight.
Others:
Bahiano – not won since February ’06, so it would be a bit of a turn-up if here were to ‘come good’ today despite Callan’s profitable record when riding for Brittain.
One of the few AW distances where it’s impossible to discern any draw bias. I’m not trusting enough to believe that Cross The Line is back to winning form and can repeat his lto effort, especially as this time he’s likely to be taken on for the lead by Obezyana and Pegasus Again. Of the trio, Pegasus Again appeals most, though it’s not a race I particularly like.
