Haydock 13.45 Cl 2 Hcap 87 (91.7) 6f gd – 14 Run (9 at best)
Aljady 5-9-4 (93) Dr 4 (93.2)
’19 record: 0/1/5 ‘20 record: 1/0/1
09/06/20 Cl 3 Hcap (67/86.9) 6f gd Hayd 9-4 7/2 J/F 1/13 1.25 l off 88 – 83.2
tracked leaders, ridden to challenge over 1f out, led inside final furlong, ran on well
Plus: class (F); going (W); distance (W); course (W); form run lto (16 days);
Minus: up 5lbs (OR); up in class;
Verdict: won on stable debut having transferred from Fahey yard between seasons; campaigned over 7f after initial staying on 3rd in a Cl 2 at York off 95; never fulfilled his potential despite being tried in cheekpieces and then a visor; started with a win over 6f here in Cl 3, raised 5lbs and goes up in class; not without chances.
Motagally 4-9-1 (90) Dr 7 (96.2)
’19 record: 2/0/7 ’20 record: 0/1/1
07/06/20 Cl 3 Hcap (67/88.7) 5f gd Nwmkt 9-3 4/1 2/9 1.25 l off 90 – 83.2
tracked leaders, ridden and headway approaching final furlong, went 2nd close home
Plus: going (F); distance (W); form run lto (18 days); down 2lbs (wt);
Minus: class (?); course (?); up in class;
Verdict: finished last season in improving style winning at Brighton and Wolverhampton over 6f, started this season with a staying on 2nd over 5f at Newmarket; chances back at 6f.
Celsius 4-9-2 (91) Dr 12 (92.0)
’19 record: 4/1/6 ’20 record: 1/0/1
09/06/20 Cl 3 Hcap (57/86.7) 5f gd Hayd 9-2 100/30 F 1/12 0.5 l off 85 – 80.0
held up in rear, headway stands side over 1f out, challenged inside final furlong, kept on well, led towards finish
Plus: going (W); course (W); form run lto (16 days);
Minus: class (?); distance; up 6lbs (OR); up in class;
Verdict: prolific winner last season and started this season in the same vein by winning here in Cl 3; the only problem is they were all over 5f, not having tried 6f since his 2yo; question as to distance.
Kimifive is being backed and after this season should be running into form. The only problem is that as a 5yo he might find 6f a bit on the sharp side. The one that I fancy, is Motagally who could be progressive and is preferred to Aljady and Clesius.
