Newmarket 17.55 Cl 3 Hcap 67 (91.7) 7f gd/fm – 12 Run
Arbalet 5-9-2 (90) Dr 5 (106.2)
’19 best:
7/9/19 Cl 2 Hcap 7f gd/fm Ascot 8-9 4/1 8/16 2.5l off 95 – 94.2
Plus: class (F+); going (W); distance (W); 1st run new stable; gelded;
Minus: course; not won hcap;
Verdict: twice a distance winner, but lost his way last year; down 14lbs from when runner-up in valuable 7f start at Ascot, and finished in mid-field last year; has since moved stable and been gelded, worth noting from O’Meara yard.
Kimifive 5-9-4 (92) Dr 7 (103.4)
’19 best: won one time
04/05/19 Cl 2 Hcap (311/89.0) 7f gd/fm Good 8-13 20/1 1/11 1l off 88 – 86.2
06/07/19 Cl 2 Hcap (162/93.9) 7f gd/fm Hayd 9-6 11/2 2/7 0.02l off 92 – 93.9
Plus: class (W+); going (W); distance (W); course (F);
Minus:
Verdict: only the one win but several good efforts in Cl 2, though not top class; however; is at the top end of his mark.
Bear Force One 4-9-5 (93) Dr 9 (93.3)
‘19 best: won 2 times
19/11/19 Cl 3 Hcap (93/86.9) 8f AW Kemp 9-5 6/1 0.5l 2/14 off 90 – 84.3
Plus: class (F); going (W); distance (W);
Minus: course (?);
Verdict: upwardly mobile 3yo on final 3 starts, finishing off btn 0.5l over 8f at Kempton on first attempt in Cl 3; raised 3lbs and acts of turf having won 7f gf at Newbury.
Asdaa 4-9-1 (89) Dr 3 (86.6)
’20 best: won 2 times
10/02/20 Cl 4 Hcap (52/79.3) Wolv 9-8 6/4 F 1/6 0.25l off 86 – 73.6
Plus: going (W); distance (W);
Minus: class; course (?);
Verdict: out of the Weld yard mid last season and improving on the AW this winter, winning twice in Cl 4; has won on turf in Ireland, but has to prove himself in this class.
Via Serendipity generally prefers 8f to 7f and as a 6yo is not likely to be going any faster. Asdaa might be worth watching, but he has yet to win in Cl 3 and looks to be up against it today. Kimifive is proven at this trip, and being just short of a top sprinter is well suited to Cl 3. However, he’s at the top end of his range and may have to give best to either the improving Bear Force One or Arbalet, who disappointed last year but after being gelded has his first run for O’Meara, and we all know what O’Meara can do with well handicapped horses. Tough between them, but I’ll go for Arbalet from Bear Force One with Kimifive taking third.
