Verdict:
Raydiance is a 7f horse so he can be ignored, and while Firmanent won last year, that was the first time since 2016 and he’s still 4lbs above his latest winning mark. Moreover, that was over 7f over which he seems to go best nowadays. Not for me. Sir Busker is being backed and he is an improving sort who could do better as a 4yo, but I’m not sure he’ll stay 8f so I’ll take a chance and pass on him. That leaves me with Dark Vision, Irreverent and the top weight Fifth Position. There’s no doubt Fifth Position was impressive in finishing a credible 8th in the Cambridgeshire, but he has top weight here and off 9lbs less I’m inclined to go with the fellow 4yo Irreverent. However, the one they’ve all got to beat is Dark Vision. A Gr 2 winner as a 2yo, he ran some fine races in top class handicaps last year and with Sylvester De Sousa booked looks the one to beat. So it’s Dark Vision from Irreverent edging Fifth Position.
