A quick look at Cheltenham, which may be all I get.
Cheltenham 2.45 Gr 3 Hcap Chase 619 (143.9) 25 f – 24 Run
Last year – 619 (147.2) sf 24 ran
Beware The Bear 10/1 9-11-8 (151) by 1.75l from Vintage Clouds 16/1 9-11-1 (144)
Big River 28/1 9-10-11 (140) was 6.5 l 4th
Activial 40/1 9-11-8 (141) was 7.1l 6th
The Conditional 8-10-6 (139) (162.0)
11 Jan Gr 3 HCh (526/134.9) 29f sf Warw 4/1 F 11-6 22l 4/14 off 142 -
chased leaders, not fluent 7th or 8th, blundered 16th, disputing 2nd when hampered before 2 out, soon beaten, weakened last, lost 3rdflat
Found the trip last time a little behind him, but ran well the time before when 2nd in the Ladbroke’s Trophy at Newbury; has been dropped in the weights, so only 2lbs more than at Newbury.
Plus: class (F); going (W); distance (W); course (W); form run lto; down 14lbs (wt); down 3lbs (OR);
Minus: 57- day break;
Verdict: if last time was a mite too far he has already shown thus C&D suits and looks a likely contender.
Kildisart 8-11-3 (150) (159.8)
22 Feb Gr 3 HCh (670/145.5) 24f gd/sf Kemp 10/1 11-4 6l 5/14 off 151 – 159.8
held up, soon behind, reminders 4 out and after 3 out, stayed on from 2 out, never troubled leaders
The weights favour him more than his Kempton conqueror Mister Malarkey and he looks to be running into form again.
Plus: class (W); going (W); distance (W); course (W); form run lto (19 days); down 1lb (wt); down 1lb (OR);
Minus:
Verdict: looks to be running into form and could well reverse Kempton running with Mister Malarky.
Mister Malarky 7-11-4 (151) (158.6)
22 Feb Gr 3 HCh (670/145.5) 24f gd/sf Kemp 9/1 11-0 2l 1/14 off 147 – 158.6
held up in touch, led 14th, ridden approaching last, driven out
Gr 2 winner last year and came right back to form last time; has been raised 4lbs for that and that might make it a little tough.
Plus: Class (W); going (F); distance (W); course (W); form run lto (19 days);
Minus: up 4lbs (wt); up 4 lbs (OR);
Verdict: the extra might find him out on heavier ground.
Vinndication 7-11-12 (159) (156.6)
02 Nov Gr 3 HCh (570/147.5) 24f gd/sf Asc 2/1 F 11-0 511/16 off 151 – 154.6
always prominent, led 3 out, ridden approaching last, stayed on well
Promising novice last season and showed that on his return at Ascot in a facile victory; however, has top weight to shoulder here and that won’t be easy on just one run this season.
Plus: class (W); going (W): distance (W); form run lto;
Minus: course (?); 129-day break: up 12lbs (wt); up 8lbs (OR);
Verdict: only one hcap start and top wt., tough road to hoe.
Just a quick look at the one I think will be involved, but I must admit that it is a hard task for Vinndication off top weight and only a single run this term. So he is the first to go. I do like Master Malarkey, but he’s fading in the betting a bit and I must admit that Kildisart looks likely to reverse the running at Kempton. However, in the belief that he found the trip too far lto, I’m going for The Conditional who’s lurking on a nice low mark and showed what he can do at Newbury on his penultimate run. So for me it’s The Conditional from Kildisart and possibly Mister Malarkey. And if you want one from left field, try Cobra De Mai.
