Have a great cruise - my favourite type of holiday. While you're in Portsmouth, the Royal Marines museum and HMS Victory are both worth a visit.

we set off from southampton about 6.30pm on 26th november, after a very nice meal and a couple of drinks turned in for the night about 10.30. then disaster, i had forgot to pack my amytryptlyne tablets, without these i cannot sleep.
i dozed off about 12ish only to wake about 2am. i was faced with the prospect of 2 weeks without much sleep. i decided to get up and go walkabout the ship. this i did for the next 13 nights and it ruined the whole holiday. i was going cold turkey all be it unintentionally but it was my own fault. ive tried coming of these tablets several times, and although ive cut the dose by half i'm still on them.
on our return home i took my tablets and slept for about 3 hours, next morning my friend asked me to run him to manchester in my car, but i was totally exhausted and should have told him no, but like an idiot i said i would. i drop him off and on my way back up the m60 motorway i had the fright of my life, i nodded off and just missed a cement mixer lorry by about 18 inches.
if your doctor ever mentions this drug for you refuse it, they are very, very addictive and you go on them and you'll never get of them.
so to sum up, yes i enjoyed my cruise (first one), although i was in a moral torment regards the crew on the ship, our young cabin lady had 2 children back home in the phillipines and she's on a 11 month contract and works with no day's off or trip home for 11 months for 11 hours everyday.
i thought slavery was abolished, it's disgusting.

Please you enjoyed your cruise Dennis but a pity about the tablets and the lives of some crew members.
Our neighbour sets off today on a German Markets Cruise so will cross the North Sea, visiting northern Germany and Copenhagen. I would prefer a cruise to warmer destinations!

Dennis,
Your cabin lady is doing quite well as at least she has a contract. Many are nowhere near that fortunate. Just ask the Asian and African crews on Irish fishing boats who are currently suing the Irish government for non-enforcement of the law. They work on average 17 hours a day and are not even allowed ashore without the captain's permission. In addition they are not even paid the Irish minimum wage, let alone what they signed on for.
Even they are among the lucky ones, for in many cases they never come out alive. Estimates suggest some 40 million people worldwide are enslaved and no country is exempt, There have been a number of cases of people being convicted in the UK in recent times and the authorities admit that's only the tip of the iceberg with perhaps 130,000 people enslaved in the UK, many of them trafficked.
Don't think slavery has gone away as it's very much alive and well in today's world.

old timer
yes the world is an immoral and corrupt place, all down to human greed, until we replace this terrible capitalist system we're stuck with it.
