took keen hold early, tracked leading pair, lost place slightly bend before 2 out, soon close up again, led last, pushed clear
Rated a 130+ hurdler in his prime, but that was 4/5 years ago and has only graced a racecourse three times since November ’05. Not surprisingly therefore, he was a large price when returning from an 11-month break to score over C&D here in December. Has been raised 10lbs for that and will carry 23lbs more actual weight in a race where the best of the opposition is rated only 6lbs lower. Nevertheless, has been given a good break to get over his exertions and does have the assistance of AP in the saddle today.

in touch, headway 4 out, close up next, ridden and hung left between last 2, driven last, stayed on gamely under pressure to lead final 100yds
Second season hurdler who was not disgraced in finishing mid-field to Sentry Duty in a decent HH over 16f at Ascot on his return in November. This was followed by a couple of outings over the larger obstacles. Certainly showed determination in getting home at Doncaster lto, for which he’s been raised just 6lbs. However, does carry 14lbs more against only 4lbs worse opposition. Has been given enough time to get over it however, plus will appreciate the better ground today. Nevertheless, there are questions as to the weight.
It’s hard to look much beyond the pair above in weighing up this race. Of the two, I’m more tempted by the claims of the younger Laredo Sound, as it’s hard to see Royaleety returning to his former powers as a 10yo. So for me it would be Laredo Sound from Royaleety.
Carrying on yesterday’s experiment with the ratings (1st & 3rd in the top 4) these are the top 4 ratings for this race:
Laredo Sound 86.6
Shannon Springs 81.9
Owlesbury Dream 79.4
Zonergem 78.4
Fooling further with the ratings, here’s what turns up for the Exeter 2.40:
The Composer 66.9
Masjoor 64.7
Beat The System 64.5
Local Present 63.6
Maybe I'll actually pick the 'right' ones today!
