Proboards are going to change the format of the site to what they call V5.
Might be worth all members having a look at the Proboard site and read the facts on this and members views. You can log into the site at the bottom of the main page of this forum and log into Proboards / Support / Support Forum. They are not giving us a choice if we want the new format or not. Should be up and running towards the end of the year.

Having already experienced it I must say I'm not that impressed - we'll lose all our smileys for a start.

change for change sake, well i suppose they employ a lot of "clever" people who feel they have to show that they deserve their inflated salaries.

To be fair, from what I've seen of the new v5, it is more modern looking. But whether it's worth the bother I can't say. However, as OT said... ...we'll lose all our smileys for a start. OT So the smilies would definitely have to be re-done, and that's not a five minute job. So if you do decide to go ahead with the upgrade, if you can let me know first so I can copy the code from this version, that would probably make things quicker to do. Cheers, BC

BC I think all the forums will be changed by the end of the year. Oakey dokey. Missed that bit, sorry. I'll make a copy of the code and smilies during next week. I've got hold of a few new ones, so when the time comes, I'll pop them on too. Any smilie requests?

Just one question why are they changing it? I don't know for sure. First impressions are that it is a lot slicker, and allows a lot more functionality (RSS feeds and Shout boxes). Admin section is quite impressive to look at. The look and feel of the board is more modern. That's the good news. Unfortunately, it would appear that some or most of the header/footer code that we use, won't work in v5. I will investigate the Support section next week sometime to see how we get Smilies back, and the top banner.

I wonder how many people have complained about the forums as they are now. And its a pity we are not being given the choice to keep this format.

Also how the last post is displayed as it is now please. OK. I think that may already be happening in v5. I'll double check when I look into the header. One bit of good news - I've worked out how to get Smilies into v5 and it is MUCH easier! Admin Home > Themes > Theme Manager Click on the Theme (which seems to be the new word for skin) Then select the Images tab, scroll down to Smilies, and from there you can simply add smilies. No messing about with code Footers and Censored Words.

...PS Is this part of the change This page took too long to generate and has been stopped. A log of this error has been reported to ProBoards Support. Yes, it's bad here too. But in fairness to Proboards, it's likely that it's a hacker attacking the server that our forum is on, as mentioned on another thread recently. They'll find the problem soon I daresay, as our forum won't be the only one that's being affected. BC

Hi Kimmy, Just thought I'd let you know that I'm reasonably happy I can work out how to get the site looking reasonably similar to how it is now once the change to v5 goes ahead. BC

Hello everyone. Proboards have notified us that they will be upgrading us within the next month. I've discussed this with Kimmy and rather than let them do it at a time that might not be convenient to us, we are going to make the swap sooner rather than later. I'll probably do it one evening ( might even be tonight) so if when you look in things look a bit different, that will be the reason. After the upgrade has been done, you might have to login, so time to dig those passwords out! BC Edit: PS It won't be tonight !!

Well, I got most of it done. 100 smiles added (which is the maximum allowed) so enjoy. The one problem of having multiple themes is that you have to do it for each theme - in our case two (classified and kimmypops themes - i.e. green or blue). If you have a favourite smilie that's not in the list, let me know and I'll swap it for one of the lesser used (or similar type) ones. The one thing I haven't been able to work out is how to get the 'Last Post' link to actually go to the last post! I thought this was happening by default in v5, but rather, it seems to be happening occasionally - which is very odd. Any how, I have lodged a support request and, assuming it is possible, I'll do that later on. Not sure, but if you don't use the Classified green theme, you may have to change your "theme" selection if you usually use the Kimmypops blue theme - easy to do in Edit Profile. One other thing you might want to change in Edit Profile: as well as the basic text box to reply in, you can have it set by default to the Preview setting, which means that you see all the smilies, images etc going in as you add them, which I thought was a nice touch. Bye for now. BC

Thanks both. Important - please read
I have managed to get the last post to go to the last post, but it is the little DATE (or TIME) that achieves it, not the subject. Please try it out and if it works, you may lavish praise on me, as it has taken me hours to figure this out!

That's a puzzle BC, as some do - Kimmy's Comp, but some go back to Page 1 - Spaced's Comp Weird Hi OT, I've tried about a dozen, and they've all worked here. Could I ask you to try again - but please ensure you click the little DATE line (or it might say "2 hours ago" for example). I, like you, get a random result when clicking the Subject line. Cheers, BC
