I had an e-mail from my son-in-law in Sheffield this week, which started off with the following:
"I am not quite sure how this has happened, but I have just signed up to jump 15,000ft from a plane in an airfield in North Lincolnshire on Sunday 11th September 2011."
Now to me there can be no earthly reason to leave a perfectly serviceable aircraft until it is safely back on the ground, although I have met people who do such things in the name of sport.
However, this does not seem to be so in my son-in-law's case. Apparently, it is all part of his efforts to raise 1,000 pounds sterling on behalf of the Sheffield Cystic Fibrosis Appeal, which apparently is some 50,000 pounds short of the the one million pounds they set out to raise in February 2010.
The aim of the fund-raising is to provide a brand new unit for young adult (16+) Cystic Fibrosis patients from across South Yorkshire, which currently does not exist in the area.
Anyone wishing to join me in supporting his madcap efforts please PM me and I'll forward a copy of the original e-mail.
