After much deliberation I worked out that there are at least 138 ways of making up the word DUCK moving up, down and across but maybe that's not what's required.

How long is the bridge which spans the river Trent?

Did you get it? I did. But wait a minute I have the answer. 5600 inches: x/7 + x/8 + 4100 = x, where x is the length of the bridge.

It was unlucky as I had to measure Daniel's toy box. Luckily though I could remember that the top had an area of 720 square inches, the side was 800 square inches and the end was 360 square inches. What were the true dimensions of the toy box? Pleasant dreams.

One of my guesses was to work out A x C If A = 40 and C = 20, then 40 x 20 = 800 Next, use 360 and divide it by C (20) gives us B as 18. To see if the 40/20 is the right guess, divide 720 by 18. If it gives us 40, then it is: 720 / 18 = 40 So in summary, the dimentions are: Length (A) = 40 Depth (B) = 18 Height (C) = 20BC

I expect both answers are wrong anyway. Just have a feeling I've missed something, and no time to dwell. BC

Have a go at this at home or in the office or where ever you are. Puzzle 61 Using a tap, a three gallon container and a five gallon container, can you measure exactly 4 gallons, you may empty the containers down the drain?

Fill 3 gallon container, empty into 5 gallon. Fill 3 gallon again and add to 5 gallon which will leave 1 gallon in the 3 gallon container. Empty the 5 gallon container then add the 1 gallon remaining in the 3 gallon. Fill the 3 gallon and empty into the 5 gallon container making 4 gallons.
