TEMPLEGATE.
ALOES, Aloes. Listen very carefully, I will say this only once. KAUTO D’ALOES (nap) has a great chance in Ascot’s 3.25.
He’s run two sound races since arriving from France and he looks to be handed a nice weight for his handicap debut. This four-year-old - from the same family as Kauto Star – is capable of better than his shown.
COURTESY CALL (2.15 Ascot, nb) was a smart stayer on the Flat. He was thrown in at the deep end for his hurdles debut. But he ran with credit in that Kempton Grade 2 and this is a whole lot easier.
BUCK MAGIC (5.10 Ascot, treble) won really well at Newbury last month despite getting worked up before the race. It’s not hard to forgive his below-par effort in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival as today’s 3m on decent ground suits him much better.

TEMPLEGATE.
Monday, April 8 RYAN MOORE has started the season in grand form and the form champ can notch another winner with AEGAEUS (2.50 Kempton, nap).
This son of top-class Ouija Board took a while to get the hang of racing last year but he ran his best races when switched to the all-weather at Lingfield in November. The form of both races has worked out well and he looks the type to improve again this season.
ADMIRALTY (3.10 Wolverhampton, nb) returned from a four-month break to make all the running at Kempton last time. He is capable of better still.
INESSA ARMAND (2.10 Wolverhampton, treble) tried to keep up with a furious pace when last seen in January. His previous form at Lingfield and this track is good enough to see him with a race like this.

Turf Account
Chris McGrath's Nap
Midnight Feast (4.50 Kempton) Back in business off a diminished rating on his return over course and distance, having lost his way last term, and form has stood up nicely.
Next Best
Peace Seeker (3.10 Wolverhampton) Looked to have returned in good form when making his comeback over a shorter trip, getting behind before closing up nicely late on.
Ones to watch
Parish Hall (Jim Bolger) promised to repay his trainer’s patience at the top level when making an impressive return at the Curragh yesterday.
Where the money's going
Ruler Of The World, a half-brother to Duke Of Marmalade, is as low as 14-1 for the Investec Derby after his striking debut on the same card. ========================
ROBIN GOODFELLOW'S SELECTIONS
Everything appeared to happen a little too quickly for AUTRISK (Kempton, nap, 4.20) last time, but Marco Botti’s charge looks primed to make an impact on his handicap bow.
A step up in trip is expected to have a positive effect on the fortunes of the son of Authorized who galloped all the way to the line over in adequate nine furlongs at Wolverhampton.
The step up to a mile and a half on a more galloping track could see Autrisk register his first career success at the expense of the likeable Poetic Verse.
WILLIAM VAN GOGH (Wolverhampton, next best, 5.10) looked to have a fair bit in hand when scoring at Dunstall Park last time and can supplement that course win in the finale.
The selection goes up in distance today, but that shouldn’t represent too much of a concern as the six-year-old has been taking off his hooves over shorter and he was well on top at the line a fortnight ago.

Ed Dunlop had a hint of Field-Marshal Haig about him as he marshalled the troops on the gallops last week.
At one stage, Dunlop - whose reputation for getting the very best out of his team was once again done no harm with the remarkable performance of Red Cadeaux in the Dubai World Cup, who somehow managed to snatch second despite being held up off a slow early gallop - had at least half a dozen big-name jockeys all in action riding in the same lot on the Cambridge Road Polytrack on Tuesday.
Having no stable jockey should allow the trainer to be able to pick and choose from the best this season and that's no bad thing for a stable whose powers continue to grow.
Aegaeus, a son of the the brilliant mare Ouija Board who first advertised his trainer's talents, progressed throughout last season and should go well on his reappearance at Kempton today in the Betvictor.com Handicap under Ryan Moore.
But it is his three-year-old half-sister, Filia Regina by Galileo, who could prove a cut above her siblings this season. She hasn't been rushed and is still to even make it to the racecourse but looks exciting.
Another Dunlop runner to look out for this week is Testosterone, who failed to live up to the expectations of either her trainer or this column last year, but will surely pay her way again soon.
Group One-placed in France, she blew her chance first time out last season by racing far too freely, but it was the ground that beat her on her two subsequent appearances and she is definitely worth chancing on quicker going in the weeks ahead. She could start at Nottingham on Wednesday.
Stablemate Singersongwriter is also fancied to go well. Ryan Moore is pencilled in to ride both.
With grass growth hindered by the ongoing cold temperatures, Newmarket' s all-weather gallops have been getting plenty of use.
Roger Varian's team look further forward than others in the town and Paul Hanagan has been riding some exciting horses owned by his boss in the last few days.
Also spotted keeping busy has been Ed Walker, who has not had a runner since December having moved across town to Grange House.
This is an important year for Walker, who has a team which includes a number of serious prospects.
The plan was for Duke Of Destiny to set the ball rolling with a big run in the Family Fun Handicap at Kempton this afternoon, but a nightmare draw in stall 13 of 13 hasn't helped the horse's case.
That said, this lightly-raced gelding should still go well and give his trainer a decent marker for the days ahead. Smart filly Sound Of Guns is set to run in either the Nell Gwyn Stakes or the Fred Darling as a sighter for a possible Classic tilt.
Sir Henry Cecil, meanwhile, continues to take time with his team. The fillies, in particular, will not be hurried while the weather remains cold.
Tom Queally partnered the unraced three-year-old Magic Of Reality in some work last week and without exactly setting the world on fire she looks one of the nice prospects in the team.
Squire Osbaldeston and Halul are two colts worth a mention too.
However, Cecil's mood has not been made any warmer by his disappointment with certain sections of his soon-to-be-published biography by Brough Scott. That, of course, will make it none the less readable. But do not expect to see the great man at any book-signing sessions in the weeks ahead.

Tuesday, April 9 HAND out some Justice to the bookies in Pontefract’s 3.40.
HIDDEN JUSTICE (nap) had plenty of good Flat form when with Amanda Perrett last season. But I would be amazed if he hasn’t improved over the winter since joining John Quinn. He won two good juvenile hurdles before finishing in midfield in the Triumph Hurdle and he could be some way ahead of the handicapper returned to the Flat.
GLENREEF (4.05 Southwell, nb) powered clear to land a course-and-distance maiden last month. She clearly likes this surface and she should continue to improve.
SNOOKY (2.10 Pontefract, treble) came good on the all-weather at Southwell in November but he had previously run well on turf. He’s been gelded over the winter and he looks the sort of horse to improve this season.

GET in tune with SINGERSONGWRITER (nap) in Nottingham’s 4.40.
She looked a classy filly when easily seeing off more experienced rivals on her debut in a Doncaster maiden in October. She was well on top at the finish despite missing the start and getting hampered early on. This half-brother to Eclipse hero Mount Nelson could be way ahead of the handicapper.
NIGHTLY ESCAPADE (5.20 Catterick, nb) is well weighted on his best form for John Dunlop. It’s easy to forgive his debut for Brian Ellison as it came in a slowly-run all-weather contest and he should do much better today.
CAVALEIRO (3.40 Nottingham, treble) finished last in the Derby but he showed some useful form after his return from being gelded. He’s unexposed as a stayer and should improve this season.

Chris McGrath's Nap
Sandy Lane (3.20 Catterick) Thriving when last seen and new trainer's record with recruits suggests he is hardly likely to stop progressing now.
Next best
Beyeh (5.20 Catterick) Remains lightly raced on the Flat for this stable, hacking up at Yarmouth last autumn.
Where the money's going
Dawn Approach is 6-4 from 7-4 with Betfred for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas. ================================
There was plenty of promise in the seasonal debut of FILS ANGES (Nottingham, nap, 2.40) and with his stable finding some form, he could be the answer to a warm handicap over the minimum trip.
The son of Dark Angel was regarded as one of Michael Bell’s better two-year-old at times last year but he went through a growth spurt which meant his handler had to back off him and let him develop.
He repaid that patience with a backend victory over course and distance and he was pretty unlucky not to score on his Yarmouth reappearance when finding trouble in a six-horse affair.
An opening spin over an inadequate trip should have put MICK SLATES (Catterick, nb, 4.20) spot on for a trip to the north Yorkshire venue.
Six furlongs around Warwick was never really going to prove a sufficient test for the selection who boasts decent course and distance form at this level and should be backed to land a modest affair.

TEMPLEGATE.
Thursday, April 11
BE a Whizz kid in Kempton’s 7.00.
NET WHIZZ (nap) was really impressive when landing a course-and-distance maiden in September despite making his ground up quickly after a slow start. He’s well weighted on that win and it’s not hard to forgive his subsequent defeat in a slowly-run contest. There should be no worries about his fitness with trainer Jeremy Noseda firing in the winners.
DIVERS (3.40 Ludlow, nb) hasn’t won since the Cheltenham Festival two years ago. But he needs fast ground and a strong pace – a combination he rarely gets. There should be no excuses today and there is no doubt he’s well treated.
ADDICTION (3.30 Wincanton, treble) has always looked capable of winning staying chases and she came good when faced with decent ground at Exeter last time. There should be more to come from Jeremy Scott’s mare.

Chris McGrath's Nap
Rockalong (7.0 Kempton) Progressed with experience in his first season. Starts his second off what could be a very fair mark.
Next best
Henry San (3.0 Wincanton) Has not run since November, but given his trainer's current form, this should not prove any drawback.

DARK SPIRIT (Ludlow, nap, 4.10) won a useful juvenile event when trained by Alison Thorpe last season and has shaped well when fourth in two outings this season. The Evan Williams-trained runner kept on well despite blundering at the last at Uttoxeter in February and looks nicely treated off bottom weight.
FRUITY O’ROONEY (Fontwell, next best, 4.20) is a tough and genuine front-runner who has been plying his trade in useful company. Arrives in good form following another decent performance when second at Ascot last Sunday. Entitled to be on the premises in a race of this class and has also showing a liking for the track in the past.

TEMPLEGATE.
TAKE the Bull by the horns in Wetherby’s 4.35.
BLAZING BULL (nap) has hit form since switching to fences this season. He won nicely over today’s distance at Catterick before overcoming the drop to 2m4f at this track last month. The return to this trip is sure to suit and he is still improving.
TAGLIETELLE (8.00 Wolverhampton, nb) didn’t have to be at his best to win a modest Kempton maiden last month. But he never looked like being caught down the straight and his previous handicap form is good.
PURCELL 3.35 Lingfield, treble) was beaten by the width of a couple of coats of paint on his first start of the year at Lingfield last time. It was also his first run on the all-weather after being gelded in the winter and he looks to be nicely weighted.

Dark horses to light up the flat.
Captain Cat
4-y-o gelding by Dylan Thomas: Form figures 5/312- (trained by Roger Charlton)
A light career to date, but has had a giant frame to fill. Tested out his handicap rating over a mile at Ascot in October, and tanked along before flattening into second. Bred to stay beyond a mile but cruising speed commends a possible return to the same track for the Hunt Cup.
Dare To Achieve
3-y-o colt by Galileo: 3- (William Haggas)
Had presumably been showing plenty to start favourite for his debut at Newmarket in September, and duly travelled well before fading into sixth of 19. Build and pedigree together promise significant improvement over middle distances.
Elusivity
5-y-o gelding by Elusive City: 05099- (David O'Meara)
Has always travelled with a gusto that suggests he could hold his own in a higher grade and has now moved from Brian Meehan to a trainer with a conspicuous record of improving recruits from elsewhere.
Greatwood
3-y-o colt by Manduro: 231- (Luca Cumani)
Though guaranteed to flourish over middle distances, he was well backed for his debut over just seven furlongs and did really well to get up in a sprint finish on his final start. Has some fancy entries but should first get to work with a rating of 84.
Moohaajim
3-y-o colt by Cape Cross: 1512- (Marco Botti)
Can give his trainer a breakthrough Group One success on home soil, having got within a neck of doing so in the Middle Park Stakes. Has every right to improve again at a mile – both on pedigree and the power of his finish.
Nabucco
4-y-o colt by Dansili: 4210- (John Gosden)
Out of the brilliant Cape Verdi, he laid solid foundations in maidens before disappointing at the Newmarket July Festival. Will return as a mature horse and handicapped to make up for lost time.
Plutocracy
3-y-o colt by Dansili: 067- (David Lanigan)
Started out in the same maiden as Dare To Achieve but proved very green. Seemed to be learning in both subsequent spins and is bred to come into his own when stepping up in trip.
Tajheez
3-y-o gelding by Raven's Pass: 083- (Roger Varian)
Acquired a handicap mark of 62 in three spins in the mud last autumn. He showed more on each occasion and, well bred, could prove a different proposition on better ground.
Tribal Path
3-y-o colt by Giant's Causeway: 69-1 (Mark Johnston)
Resurfaced for a stylish success round Lingfield in January and promises to prove far better than an opening mark of 75 as he gains strength and steps up in trip.
Yair Hill
5-y-o gelding by Selkirk: 44007- (Kevin Ryan)
Has travelled like a good horse and always had the physique to keep developing. Campaigned almost exclusively at seven furlongs, he has slipped down the weights if his new trainer is disposed to experiment.
==========================
Turf account
Chris McGrath's Nap
Hartwright (8.30 Wolverhampton) Well backed when putting it all together in a nursery over course and distance in the autumn. Looks ahead of the game on his return.
Next best
Vinnie My Boy (4.00 Wetherby) Won a couple of bumpers last summer and could prove well treated now he switches to handicap company for a trainer right back in form.
One to watch
A return to form from Ted's Brother (Richard Guest) Was anticipated in the betting at Newcastle last Saturday but he was set plenty to do before finishing well for second.
Where the money's going
Betfred have eased Kingsbarns to 5-1 from 4-1 for the Investec Derby as money comes for his stablemate, Mars, now 7-1 from 10-1. ================================

The faster conditions suited ODDJOB (Chepstow, nap, 5.30) when he tackled a similar handicap here last Saturday and he can win again under his penalty.
Travelling strongly throughout under Andrew Glassonbury, the nine-year-old stayed on to resolutely for his rivals to record a snug six-length triumph.
The talented Kieron Edgar takes over in the saddle today and I’m hopeful that the Welsh venue has avoided any heavy rain in the last 24 hours.
The fitting of the visor helped to concentrate the mind of SCRIBE (Wolverhampton, next best, 6.25) last time and he can supplement his recent win for Irish rider Declan Bates.
The son of Montjeu has taken a while to find his top form but he looked a happy horse when scoring under Adam Kirby and Bates, who has ridden plenty of winners in Ireland over jumps, looks to have a good opportunity of recording his first win since joining Dave Evans.

TEMPLEGATE.
I’M going for Gold in the 4.10 at Market Rasen.
FORGOTTEN GOLD (nap) was a promising hurdler last season and he’s taken well to fences. He won despite the heavy ground at Aintree and has not been disgraced in hot races since. Today’s faster conditions is what he needs.
HATTERS RIVER (3.45 Wincanton, nb) gradually been progressing and looks ready to strike. He ran his best race yet when third to Arctic Wings at Newbury last month and it was even better than the bare form as he was at a disadvantage racing in the middle down the straight.
SOUTHFIELD THEATRE (2.10 Wincanton, treble) was really smart in bumpers and looks just a good over hurdles. He ran well behind smart Tarquin Du Seuil on his hurdling debut before winning well at Exeter. A penalty should not stop him.

TEMPLEGATE.
BURNHAM (nap) will be too hot for his rivals to handle in Windsor’s 5.20.
He went close on his comeback run last season and won at this track in June. The soft ground is in his favour and he’s been gelded over the winter.
LE CHAT D’OR (4.30 Newcastle, nb) won first time out last season and went on to strike over course and distance in the summer. He likes easy ground and trainer Michael Dods has his team in good form.
CARRAGOLD (3.30 Newcastle, treble) ran a blinder when narrowly denied at Pontefract last week. He’s nicely weighted and likes stiff tracks. Top jockey Silvestre De Sousa has a good record when riding for in-form Mel Brittain.

CHRIS MCGRATH'S NAP: Destiny Blue (3.40 Redcar)
Failed to cut much ice as a hurdler last year but was useful on the Flat two years ago and, to judge by his reappearance in that sphere over today's course and distance, that ability remains ready to be tapped by his thoroughly capable new trainer.
NEXT BEST: Bitusa (3.10 Redcar)
Shaped with promise last year and on his reappearance two weeks ago and can offer more for return to seven furlongs on better ground. ==========================

TEMPLEGATE.
WILLIE MULLINS can plunder another valuable British prize with UNIKA LA RECONCE (nap) in Kempton’s 4.00.
The Irish trainer had five winners at the Cheltenham Festival including Quevega and he looks to have another smart mare on his hands with my bets bet of the day.
She won easily on her first start for Mullins just before Christmas and would have followed up on her next start if she hadn’t clattered through the last hurdle.
The better ground should suit and she had plenty of good form in France.
HIGHLAND RETREAT (2.30 Exeter, nb) won over course and distance on her hurdles debut. She won well at Taunton last time and she has also run well behind some decent hurdlers.
WADACRE SARKO (2.10 Southwell, treble) was far from disgraced on his debut at Wolverhampton. Mark Johnston’s horses often improve a lot for their first run and the switch to today’s different all-weather surface should do the trick.

The return to the minimum trip could play to the strengths of MATA HARI BLUE (Southwell, nap, 2.40) who makes a swift reappearance to the track after finishing unplaced at Doncaster on Saturday.
The seven-year-old faded at the distance on Town Moor and could be a better proposition now that she is dropped a furlong and tackling her own sex.
She already boasts solid Fibresand form and ran well in defeat behind the well treated Elusive Hawk on her penultimate start.
THE CLYDA ROVER (Exeter, next best, 3.00) benefited from a typically patient Paul Moloney ride at the west country venue last time and I’m hoping for a repeat result today.
The selection has always been well thought of by connections and he is realising the potential now that his physical problems have been ironed out.
He travelled sweetly throughout before recording his last time out success and conditions should be fine for the well handicapped gelding.
