Views from connections ahead of Sunday's Flame Of Tara European Breeders Fund Stakes at the Curragh. ![http://e1.365dm.com/14/08/640/racing-leopardstown-jack-naylor_3197167.jpg?20140829141755](http://e1.365dm.com/14/08/640/racing-leopardstown-jack-naylor_3197167.jpg?20140829141755) Jack Naylor winning at Leopardstown Jessica Harrington's exciting filly Jack Naylor bids to complete a hat-trick in the Flame Of Tara European Breeders Fund Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday. Following a couple of creditable efforts in defeat at Leopardstown and Fairyhouse, the daughter of Champs Elysees made it third time lucky with a runaway victory at Roscommon before beating a strong field in Leopardstown's Silver Flash Stakes. The form received a significant boost when the fourth home Raydara came out on top in last weekend's Debutante Stakes at the Curragh and the prospect of slightly easier ground conditions on Sunday holds no fears for Harrington. "She seems in good form and I think the step up from seven furlongs to a mile will suit her well," said the trainer. "She's got to give 5lb to the other fillies, but I'm happy with her and the ground won't bother her, so we'll see what happens." The only other previous winner in the eight-strong field is David Wachman's Galway Festival scorer Legatissimo. Wachman said: "She seems fine and I've been happier with her since her last run. "She's only won a maiden and she's got to step up now she's in Listed company, so we'll see how we go. "I'm not too concerned about the ground." The Aidan O'Brien-trained Together Forever has shown up well on her two starts to date, while Jim Bolger saddles a pair of newcomers in Deontas and Steip Amach, with stable jockey Kevin Manning siding with the latter. Paul Deegan's Hassah is also previously unraced. The Michael Mulvany-trained Bluerince Lady and Could Should Would from Andrew Oliver's yard complete the line-up.

Catterick are pushing on with their bid for all-weather racing with a formal planning application about to be processed. ![http://e2.365dm.com/14/03/768x576/Catterick_3095059.jpg?20140305132808](http://e2.365dm.com/14/03/768x576/Catterick_3095059.jpg?20140305132808) Catterick: Jumps racing will continue The racecourse, which hosts both Flat and National Hunt action on the current turf track, began work on the project two years ago in which time they have worked with the BHA to finalise the layout. With such preliminary work undertaken, a planning application will now be sent to the local authorities with two to three years predicted as a likely timescale for the finalisation of the project. John Sanderson, chief executive of International Racecourse Management which runs Catterick, told Racing UK: "We started working on this two years ago when we spent quite a lot of time on the design of the track, which will replace the turf Flat track. "We then had to involve English Heritage because there are a lot of Roman remains around Catterick which took quite a long time. "We are now formulating our formal planning application to the local authorities. "Jumping will continue at Catterick as long as I’ve got anything to do with it. They are two separate tracks – they do intertwine once or twice but that’s not an issue and that’s all been approved by the BHA. "It’s very difficult to predict we are working very closely with the local authority, maybe 2017 something like that."

THE number of signatories to the National Trainers Federation online petition calling for a halt to Arena Racing Company's plans to replace Newcastle's Flat turf course with an all-weather surface was surging towards the 250 mark last night, 24 hours after its launch.
Northern trainers with their names on a list signed by dozens of colleagues from around Britain include Mark Johnston, Michael Dods, Tom Tate, Ann Duffield, Ruth Carr, Richard Whitaker, Tom Dascombe and Donald McCain, a two-time Northumberland Plate winner.
And as momentum gathered pace behind the campaign to urge Arc either to abandon its plans or at least put them on hold, more specific details about Catterick's all-weather ambitions emerged, with the track understood to want around 50 all-weather meetings a year should it receive planning permission to enter the fixture process come January 2016.
Johnston said of the Newcastle all-weather proposal: "While I appreciate there is a need for an all-weather track in the north, I've never been in favour of closing the turf track at Newcastle and I'd rather do without the all-weather track than see that happen.
"Newcastle is, topographically, one of the best tracks in Britain, if not the best, and it would be a travesty to lose it. Sadly, under Arc management, the quality of racing has already declined but so long as the turf track exists we can hope that trend might be reversed."
He continued: "Furthermore, I have no desire to see any expansion of all-weather racing in Britain, at Newcastle or anywhere else. We are boring our customers and doing untold damage to the sport with drab, uninteresting, poor-quality racing. We don't want any more of it."
Arc's £10 million project to turn Newcastle into an all-weather venue would mean Tapeta replacing turf, but its capacity to host winter floodlit meetings depends on securing an exemption from the BHA from rules that require Flat cards to include two races over a mile or further that aggregate two and a half miles, because there is floodlighting only for the straight mile.
The Horsemen's Group objects to the exemption being granted and, with a large number of trainers opposed to the plans, Durham-based Dods suggested delaying a verdict.
"The north does need an all-weather track, but maybe we should not rush and give Newcastle the go-ahead until all other options have been looked at," he suggested. "Newcastle is one of the best tracks in Britain."
Newmarket trainer Hugo Palmer, who went to university in Newcastle and whose family home is 80 miles north of the city, has a 45 per cent strike-rate at the track.
"Don't destroy the best turf track in the country," he pleaded in his blog. "And when you've got people like Sir Michael Stoute speaking out against it – and we all know that Stoutey is quite reticent when it comes to speaking out – they need to be listened to."
The strength of feeling over Newcastle could benefit Catterick's efforts to carry out its own all-weather conversion.
John Sanderson, chief executive of International Management Ltd, which runs the course, said yesterday: "We have English Heritage onside, which is essential because of the Roman remains that exist in areas of the site. We're talking to the local authority and formulating a formal planning submission, which is quite complicated because it involves floodlights, traffic management and the A1, which is being widened and upgraded alongside.
"That could take another four to six months, assuming it all goes well."
Sanderson stressed the fate of Newcastle has "nothing to do with us, we're working along our path" – which suggests the north could end up with two all-weather tracks by 2017.
A BHA spokesman said: "We produce guidelines each year for the development of new racetracks, which also cover the conversion of existing tracks, and they are made available to all interested parties.
"We remain in contact with Catterick regarding their proposals, and they would have to apply under the existing process, which typically concludes each January for the following year’s fixture list."
The BHA board is due to make a decision shortly on the issues surrounding Newcastle.

Ryan Moore has seven booked rides at Sandown on Saturday afternoon and here the Betfair Ambassador talks exclusively to betting.betfai about the chances of each...
14:05 Sandown - Tagula Night
It hasn't always been the case this season, but he looks to be well drawn in two, and comes here in good enough form, having finished fourth over 6f at Windsor last time. Actually, in fact, when I won on him over course and distance in June it was from the outside stall. He is 6lb higher here but, like I said, he is decent nick and goes in soft ground, so he probably has a better chance than most. As ever though, in big-field sprints here, we will need plenty of luck in running, something we didn't get when we finished in midfield from stall three over track and trip in July.
14:40 Sandown - Aktabantay
With Richard Pankhurst and Tupi out of the race at the overnight stage, Aktabantay is probably the form choice on his second in the Superlative Stakes over 7f at the Newmarket July meeting. And, although he was beaten a fair way there, it was by a potentially top-class prospect in Estidhkaar, and Cock Of The North was two lengths away in third. So he is progressive and has form with a bit of cut - though perhaps not as soft as it is likely to be here, admittedly - and you have to give him a fair winning chance, though the likes of Future Empire and Elm Park are clearly unexposed, and Pallister ran in what was a much deeper and better race than this in the Vintage at Goodwood. Future Empire impressed me at Newmarket though, and he could prove the most troublesome.
15:15 Sandown - Audacia
Hasn't been out since winning a 1m listed race on the soft at Pontefract in early July but Hugo, who has his horses in good form, has probably just been waiting for another opportunity on the same ground. And she has tended to go well when fresh in the past. A far bigger worry for me is the opposition as she will need to improve the best part of a stone to even trouble the likes of Group 2 winner Fintry, Zurigha and Odeliz to name just three, and the improving Water Hole has to be respected too. John Gosden tends to know what he is doing when he ups his horses significantly in class, but I think Fintry is much the likeliest winner, even with her Group 2 penalty.
15:50 Sandown - Spa's Dancer
He has been dropped 2lb from his York run last time, likes it around here and goes well with cut in the ground. But one worry for me is the trip. I know that he was just touched off over 1m2f at Redcar in May, so he clearly gets it ok, but whether a strongly-run race over this distance round here will be ideal, I am not sure. Ideally, I would have preferred this to be over a furlong shorter. But of course he has a chance in a competitive race and three of his four wins, including one for me, have been at Sandown. Ascot winner Forgotten Hero, who I have ridden before, is the one we all have to beat.
16:25 Sandown - Among Angels
As with most nurseries, this looks a difficult race to call, though it could be that Alan Bailey made a shrewd move buying Honey Required for 8,000gns after she won a seller for William in the soft at Newmarket last month. The form of that race was franked by a couple of placed horses at Kempton on Wednesday night, and the runner-up has run ok since, too. Among Angels was predictably outclassed at Royal Ascot after winning a soft-ground maiden at Windsor back in May, though his poor run at Salisbury last time takes more explaining, though maybe it was just the faster surface. I think a mark of 83 is on the harsh side, but he has a chance if coming back to his best on this easier ground.
17:00 Sandown - Tercel
Didn't help his chance by pulling hard at Salisbury last time, so we will put a hood on him for the first time here to calm him down and help him relax. But what really caused him to run so poorly last time is that he hit one of the ridges and lost his action. The handicapper has chosen to totally ignore that run and leave him on the same mark, but if he does confirm the promise of his course and distance maiden win last month - the second and third have won since - then I suppose a mark of 77 is fair. He hasn't raced on soft ground so far, but his breeding gives you hope that he will handle it.
17:30 Sandown - Potentate Soft ground would be a worry for him here, as the only time that he has disappointed has been on testing ground at Newmarket last month. But if it doesn't ride that bad, then I think he has an obvious chance, as I think a 2lb rise for his second at Salisbury last month isn't too bad.

Aktabantay sustained the hopes of trainer Hugo Palmer and owner Ibrahim Araci by claiming what had briefly looked an unlikely victory in the European Wealth Solario Stakes at Sandown.
To lead on the line in a four-way head-bob was not exactly a performance to unnerve connections of other promising two-year-olds, but it was an important first Group winner for the up-and-coming Palmer in a race taken 12 months earlier by champion miler Kingman.
Jockey Ryan Moore revealed virtually everything had gone against the Oasis Dream colt, who had finished second in the July Stakes at Newmarket and took a long time to quicken up from a steady pace.
Lexington Times attempted to pickpocket his rivals by stealing an advantage two furlongs from home, but Moore galvanised Aktabantay (9-4) and the pair hit the post just a short head up on the staying-on 5-4 favourite Future Empire.
Lexington Times and Cock Of The North were also in close proximity.
"He got pinched coming out of the stalls and I was sitting five of five and we weren't going mad," said Moore.
"I didn't want to go all the way round them. I got a nice split through, but Lexington Times got away and pinched a length or two.
"It took him a while to get going too, I think he was just a bit green and inexperienced. Hopefully he'll come on for that."
Palmer said: "I don't know whether he wants better ground or a stronger gallop.
"I dream and hope as we go up in grade they will go faster and that will get him going. You can see why I put cheekpieces on him to make him concentrate.
"It will be up to the owner and I know he is keen on the Dewhurst. I think he will be well suited by the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf over a mile in Santa Anita. Outstrip was third in the Dewhurst before winning it last year, so we'll just see."
James Doyle, on the runner-up, got a two-day whip ban (September 14-15). ================================
Fintry oozed class as she overcame a 7lb penalty and a 90-day absence to land the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Atalanta Stakes at Sandown Park.
Andre Fabre's French raider (6-4 favourite) had been laid low with a cough since winning a Group Two at Chantilly on her previous start, but that did not stop her making a successful return as she warmed up for a crack at the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.
She bounded clear under Maxime Guyon after heading the pacesetting Audacia and came home a length and a quarter clear of the staying-on Odeliz, with Water Hole third.
Guyon said: "That was very simple. She won a Group Two last time, so today she won again. When she got in front she stopped a little bit. She's a very good filly."
Lisa Jane Graffard, Godolphin's French representative, added: "Absolutely delighted. We just wanted to see the filly have a good comeback.
"She'd been off the track three months, but we knew she had the quality she showed us today so hopefully she can go for a big one at the end of the season.
"We came here because there were no suitable races in France and she was already a Group Two winner there, and the timing of this race was right.
"It has to be discussed, but I think the Sun Chariot would be the logical step."
Odeliz's trainer Karl Burke said: "She got caught in a bit of a pocket, but there are no real excuses.
"She's been beaten by a very good filly. The big aim is the EP Taylor in Canada and we might try to find her a race before then." ================================
Chilworth Icon ended a losing run stretching back more than two years in the National Youth Music Theatre Charity Handicap at Sandown.
The last time Mick Channon's 20-1 chance had struck was in an Italian Group Three as a juvenile, and he had also picked up the Woodcote Stakes at the Derby meeting.
Sam Hitchcott was luckier than many in a typically messy event down the five-furlong chute, sneaking up the inside and coming two and a half lengths clear.
The trainer's son and assistant, Michael, said: "He was very useful at two, but struggled from a high mark at three. He just needed everything to fall right for him."
The Channon yard then doubled up via the William Buick-ridden Popeswood (5-1) in the NYMT Student Fund Nursery.
The Andrew Reid stable continues to work wonders with Treasure The Ridge, who finished with purpose under Danny Brock to take the St James Theatre Handicap by a length and a quarter.
Originally with Dermot Weld, the Galileo gelding was bought from Brett Johnson after winning a Lingfield seller last month, and despite this being his hat-trick for the new yard, he still returned at 25-1.
The Mill Hill trainer's assistant Michael Keady said: "He's bred to win races like this, he's a lovely horse, and I think he could win again going up in grade. Andrew has been very good at getting horses from sellers, he's very underrated."
Ali Brewer specialises with jumpers at her stable at Eastbury near Lambourn but struck on the Flat with Special Miss (14-1) in the Thank You Chrissy Morum Handicap.
Her partner Sam Stronge said: "Her owner loves Sandown and was keener to come here than Leicester on Monday. She could still run there, but we'll see."
Jim Crowley was aboard Special Miss and he made it a double on 25-1 shot War Singer in the closing Danielle Wren Will You Marry Me? Handicap. ==================================
Pearl Secret made all the running to take Listed honours in the Betfred Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes at the East Yorkshire track.
Jamie Spencer had the David Barron-trained five-year-old smartly out of the stalls and dictated affairs from the front.
Though the pack closed in at the business end, 2-1 favourite Pearl Secret had enough in hand to hold the fast-finishing Mirza by a neck. Line Of Reason was third.
Barron admitted it was a tough call whether to let his star sprinter take his chance on the ground.
"It was touch and go (whether to run) but I was desperate to get a run into him as he's not run since Ascot," said the Thirsk handler.
"He was so fresh and well and I've never had him in such fine fettle.
"He's in next Saturday (Sprint Cup) but if the forecasts are right, it could be very quick at Haydock.
"There's a few options, but the one that sticks out like a sort thumb is the Prix de l'Abbaye, as he's likely to get his ground." ====================================
Tom Queally gave Big Orange a superb front-running ride to take the Win £10,000,000 on Betdaq Colossus Chester Stakes on the Roodee.
Michael Bell's gelding was the only three-year-old in the race, but off bottom weight he was allowed to bowl along in front and given a soft lead.
Whiplash Willie, who was giving the winner 18lb, came with a threatening run in the short straight but Big Orange (5-1) showed no signs of stopping and was still a length and a quarter ahead at the line to lift this Listed Handicap.
De Rigueur was a further five lengths away in third. ===============================
Notarfbad dug deep to cling on to victory in the Lord Mildmay Memorial Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot.
Nick Scholfield was positive from the off aboard Jeremy Scott's charge, building up a couple of lengths advantage at one stage before the field started to come back to him with a couple to jump in the extended two-mile-five-furlong event.
Notarfbad (9-1) was still in front at the last, but Houston Dynimo was gaining with every stride, with Scholfield asking his mount for every effort in the shadow of the post to hang on by a head. Buck Mulligan was a further six lengths back in third.
Dursey Sound was sent off the 2-1 favourite for Jonjo O'Neill and Tony McCoy but could finish only eighth of the nine runners.
Scholfield told At The Races: "Nine times out of 10, you won't get an easy lead. We used to hold him up and he'd fight the whole way, but since we've been making the running, admittedly over two, he has settled. He's more chilled than ever today."
However, there was a sting in the tail for Scholfield as he was hit with a seven-day ban for using his whip above the permitted level and without giving his horse time to respond.
He will be sidelined on September 16-17, 19, 21 and 24-26. He was also fined £400 . =======================================
Unrequited was disqualified following his victory in the Children's Day At Bettyville Handicap at Wexford after Colin Keane failed to weigh in.
The jockey rode a peach of a race to win the one-mile-three-furlong handicap on Ger Lyons' charge, committing for home nearly three furlongs out and getting a terrific response from his mount, who ran on strongly down the straight to hold Coolfighter by two lengths.
However, Keane did not weigh in afterwards, prompting the stewards to disqualify Unrequited (13-2) and award the race to the Noel Dooly-trained Coolfighter (13-2), who was bringing up a hat-trick in the hands of Seamie Heffernan.
Ring Chief was promoted to second and The Fox Tully awarded third
Lyons' assistant and brother Shane said: "If that's the worst thing that ever happens to him (Keane) he won't be too bad. He is very upset about it, but we are behind him 100 per cent."
The stewards subsequently held an inquiry into the incident and banned Keane for 10 days.
Heffernan doubled up when he went clear three furlongs out on the Robbie Hennessy-trained Magnetic Force (16-1) in the Boolavogue Handicap and had enough in the locker to hold off Little Stampy by a length and three-quarters.
David Wachman also landed a double, highlighted by the easy victory of 4-11 favourite Mr Rock in the Follow Wexford Racecourse On Facebook Maiden.
Second at Leopardstown on his previous start, the three-year-old was bounced out in front by Wayne Lordan and always looked in command, having the opposition in trouble fully two furlongs out before clearing away to score by seven and a half lengths.
There were few alarms for Wachman's other winner either, Fran Berry pressing the button a quarter of a mile out on Que Sera Sera in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden and soon asserting, the 11-4 favourite running on strongly to score by two and a quarter lengths. =================================
My Tent Or Yours could go novice chasing when the jumps season moves through the gears later in the year.
Nicky Henderson's seven-year-old finished second in the Champion Hurdle in March, but he has been continually blighted by headstrong tendencies.
Connections of the Grade One-winning hurdler are now considering a new vocation.
Henderson told Channel 4 Racing: "We are thinking along the lines of schooling him over a fence and seeing what AP (Tony McCoy) thinks, then make a decision."
Stablemate Bobs Worth, the 2013 Gold Cup hero, could again run in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury in February - a race he won in 2012.
The nine-year-old gelding excelled in the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas but turned in a curious effort when only fifth in his defence of the Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival.
Henderson said: "You'd probably want to have some sort of a (prep) race (before the Hennessy). He has not got a real robust constitution. You couldn't have run him again after Cheltenham."
The trainer reports all to be well with Sprinter Sacre as the brilliant two-mile chaser builds up steadily after having a heart scare when beaten at Kempton last Christmas.
The Tingle Creek at Sandown on December 6, which he won in 2012 on the way to taking the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, would be the main objective in the first half of the campaign.
"He's been back in five weeks and cantering for two. He looks exceptionally well and so far it's been great," Henderson said.
"You have no option, I don't think, but to go straight to the Tingle Creek. There's nowhere else to go. He would go for the Shloer at Cheltenham if he was ready. I just think we'll see how things are going. There isn't much for him other than the Tingle Creek and the Victor Chandler (before Cheltenham).
"I don't think there's any need for heart monitors or anything like that. We'll know with the first bit of work he does."
Simonsig is another of Henderson's star chasers who is on the comeback trail, but the trainer is confident the grey can return as good as ever. The 2013 Arkle Trophy winner had a splint problem which kept him off the track for the entirety of last season.
The handler said: " He is a seriously good horse. He's the only horse we had two years ago who would be capable of going with Sprinter Sacre, and very capable of doing so. Last year we never got as far as working him because that splint interfered. We got him to slow work but never got him to fast work.
"There is no doubt we'll be trying Simonsig over further. He won a Neptune so he's proved two and a half and two five at Cheltenham is no problem. If you had to have a little guess we might be looking more at the King George, but that's a long way away.
"His splint has been repaired and there is no reason why he shouldn't be every bit as good, and he is seriously good." ======================================
In-form jockey Shane Shortall is likely to be out of action for about a month after he suffered a broken collarbone at Down Royal on Friday evening.
The highly rated conditional sustained the injury in a handicap hurdle over two and three-quarter miles when he fell three flights from home on Rockshandy.
Shortall had been in great nick this summer, with his victory aboard Road To Riches in the Galway Plate the clear highlight, and he had won the main race earlier on the Down Royal card on Pires.
Alan Donoghue, the jockey's agent, said: "He'll be out for around four weeks, but that's just the game we're in. It's a shame, he's been on absolute fire recently." ===================================
Joe Murphy admits lack of experience is a concern for Shepherd's Purse as the exciting juvenile turns out for the second successive weekend in the Nestle Supporting Irish Autism Action Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh.
The Pastoral Pursuits colt made a big impression when winning in maiden company over course and distance last Saturday and is immediately stepped up to Group Three level due to a lack of suitable opportunities.
"It might be coming a bit soon for him, but if you look at the calendar there aren't a lot of races left for him to run in. He's come out of last week's race well and there is no reason not to run him," said the trainer.
"You'd prefer to have a bit more experience before taking on the better horses as he might be a bit green, but the only way to get rid of that greenness is to run him in the better races.
"If he runs a nice race, we'll be happy, and I'm sure whatever he does he'll learn from it. That's the way we're looking at it."
Three-times winner Cappella Sansevero undoubtedly sets the standard, having also filled the runner-up spot in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. Most recently he finished third in the Group One Phoenix Stakes.
Aidan O'Brien's War Envoy and the Michael O'Callaghan-trained Rapid Applause have also shown up well in Pattern company, with maiden winners Invincible Diamond and Blackbriar adding further strength in depth.
It took Tommy Stack's Blackbriar seven attempts to get off the mark, but she did so in style at Cork earlier in the month and c onnections are hoping she can enhance her value by picking up some black type.
Fozzy Stack, the trainer's son and assistant, said: "She has plenty of experience and won well in Cork the last day. I think maybe putting the cheekpieces on her helped, but this is a tougher race and if she can finish in the first three we'll be delighted."
The seven-strong field is completed by Ted Walsh's maiden Approbare.

Simonsig is another of Nicky Henderson's star chasers who is on the comeback trail but the trainer is confident the grey can return as good as ever. ![http://e2.365dm.com/13/11/768x576/nicky-henderson-simonsig-2-full_3042175.jpg?20131126163628](http://e2.365dm.com/13/11/768x576/nicky-henderson-simonsig-2-full_3042175.jpg?20131126163628) Simonsig is on the comeback trail Simonsig, winner of the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham in 2013, had a splint problem which kept him off the track for the entirety of last season. It is unlikely Simonsig and Sprinter Sacre will clash as Henderson expects the former to run over longer distances with the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day the first serious target. "He is a seriously good horse. He's the only horse we had two years ago who would be capable of going with Sprinter Sacre and very capable of doing so," said the Seven Barrows trainer. "Last year we never got as far as working him because that splint interfered. We got him to slow work but never got him to fast work. "There is no doubt we'll be trying Simonsig over further. He won a Neptune so he's proved two and a half and two five at Cheltenham is no problem. "If you had to have a little guess we might be looking more at the King George, but that's a long way away. "His splint has been repaired and there is no reason why he shouldn't be every bit as good and he is seriously good. "Sprinter has got a little bit more to prove in his own way because he actually under-performed when he had that hiccup that day (at Kempton). "This fellow just had a straight forward splint and it was just affecting his bone density really on his near fore."

My Tent Or Yours could go novice chasing when the jumps season moves through the gears later in the year. ![http://e2.365dm.com/14/08/768x576/my-tent-or-yours_3197428.jpg?20140830094311](http://e2.365dm.com/14/08/768x576/my-tent-or-yours_3197428.jpg?20140830094311) My Tent Or Yours: Could be considered for a chasing career Nicky Henderson's seven-year-old finished second in the Champion Hurdle in March, but he has been continually blighted by head-strong tendencies. Connections of the Grade One-winning hurdler are now considering a new vocation. Henderson told Channel 4 Racing: "We are thinking along the lines of schooling him over a fence and see what AP (Tony McCoy) thinks, then make a decision." Stablemate Bobs Worth, the 2013 Gold Cup hero, could again run in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury in February - a race he won in 2012. "He has not got a real robust constitution. You couldn't have run him again after Cheltenham."

Exciting young chaser Defy Logic is back in training with Paul Nolan after recovering from a broken blood vessel at owner JP McManus' stud in County Limerick. Defy Logic's trainer Paul Nolan Nolan believes it is too early to think of making plans for the seven-year-old, who had been shaping into a leading fancy for the Arkle Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival in the first half of last season. Defy Logic staked a strong claim for the two-mile novice championship when winning the Grade One Racing Post Novice Chase at Leopardstown. However, those plans had to be shelved after he bled when well beaten in the Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase over the same course and distance, resulting in him missing the rest of the campaign. "He went to Martinstown (McManus' stud) after his last race and came back to us about a fortnight ago in great shape," said the County Wexford-based trainer. "He's back cantering now, so we will take things as they come, but he's in great shape and we'll work out a plan for him. "We couldn't be happier with him. He looks a picture, as they always do when they come back from Martinstown. He was well looked after. "Hopefully there won't be a recurrence of the problem again and we can get as much out of him as we can. "I don't want to say when he might run again. We'll have to see how things go. "He's had loads of time to get over his bleed. Everyone has been very patient and hopefully they will be rewarded."

Exciting filly Likely is building up towards a return to action in the coming weeks. ![http://e1.365dm.com/14/08/768x576/horse-racing-york-racecourse-master-the-world_3194157.jpg?20140822172103](http://e1.365dm.com/14/08/768x576/horse-racing-york-racecourse-master-the-world_3194157.jpg?20140822172103) David Barron's juvenile made big impression on her racecourse debut at Carlisle in May and the form has since been well advertised, with the runner-up Mattmu and the fourth home, Lady Desire, subsequently winning twice. Likely was ruled out of a possible trip to Royal Ascot after suffering a setback and Barron has been keen to ease his youngster back into training. "She's back in full work and we're happy with her," said the North Yorkshire trainer. "There is nothing definite with her, but hopefully we'll have her back on target in the next month or so." Likely's big-race entries include the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on September 14 and the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket on September 27

Charlie Hills is mulling the next step for Dutch Connection after the smart colt took his latest victory at York in his stride, with a trip to the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend among his options. ![http://e0.365dm.com/14/08/768x576/york-racecourse-dutch-connection-toocoolforschool-york_3193251.jpg?20140820145823](http://e0.365dm.com/14/08/768x576/york-racecourse-dutch-connection-toocoolforschool-york_3193251.jpg?20140820145823) Dutch Connection: Irish option The Lambourn trainer reports the progressive juvenile in tip-top shape after he got up close home to claim the Group Three Acomb Stakes on the Knavesmire. The Dutch Art colt is entered in several races, including the Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the Curragh on September 14. "The main thing is that I'm thrilled with the way he's come out of the race, he looks really well," said Hills. "He's in the Champagne (Doncaster on September 13), but I'm not sure he'll go there. "He's also in the National Stakes, the Lagardere (at Longchamp) and the Dewhurst (at Newmarket). "The National Stakes is in a couple of weeks, but we'll have a look at the race and see what's going there."

Sole Power features among 25 six-day acceptors for Saturday's Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock. ![http://e0.365dm.com/14/08/768x576/horse-racing-york-racecourse-sole-power_3194121.jpg?20140822163404](http://e0.365dm.com/14/08/768x576/horse-racing-york-racecourse-sole-power_3194121.jpg?20140822163404) Sole Power: Features among bumper entry for Haydock Eddie Lynam's stable star was a thrilling winner of the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York last time and a settled weather forecast has encouraged connections to think about running in the weekend's big race. Stablemate Viztoria is also engaged. Last year's winner Gordon Lord Byron is another leading hope from Ireland along with Aidan O'Brien's pair of Cougar Mountain and Fountain Of Youth and Tracey Collins' Viztoria. Music Master leads the home defence along with Tropics, Extortionist, Aljamaheer, G Force and Hot Streak. Our ante-post expert The Insider puts the Sprint Cup under the microscope Es Que Love could drop back in trip following his Lennox Stakes success at Glorious Goodwood after being supplemented by trainer Clive Cox at a cost of £15,600. "He's in great form and we're playing with the Goodwood winnings, so it seemed a sensible thing to do," said Cox. "His last piece of work was super and it is forecast to be dry for the rest of the week. "If that's right and it gets warmer this week, then I hope very much that the ground will be in his favour. "He could have run in the Park Stakes at Doncaster over seven furlongs, but he would have had a 4lb penalty so that was another factor to sway us. "We gave it lots of thought and when you think Sole Power has yet to win over six, it gives the race an open look." Aidan O'Brien has left in Cougar Mountain and Fountain Of Youth but the ante-post favourite Due Diligence will not run. O'Brien told the Irish Times: "Due Diligence won't run and it's possible we won't have a runner in the race at all." Others in the strong Irish squad include Maarek and Majestic Queen.

The Clipper Logistics Legends Classified Stakes takes place for the fifth consecutive year and is the highlight on John Smith's Opening Day at the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival, Wednesday, September 10. ![http://e2.365dm.com/14/03/768x576/culloty-full_3100939.jpg?20140314164335](http://e2.365dm.com/14/03/768x576/culloty-full_3100939.jpg?20140314164335) Jim Culloty is set to ride in the Legends race This year's line-up features Jim Culloty, who won three Cheltenham Gold Cups on Best Mate, and Derby-winning jockey Michael Hills. Carl Llewellyn, a dual Grand National winner with Party Politics and Earth Summit, is back for another crack after finishing fourth last year, while Kevin Darley, winner of the Flat jockeys' championship in 2000, also returns. Other big names include Ladbrokes St Leger-winning jockey George Duffield and Willie Ryan, who captured the 1997 Derby on Benny The Dip. The event, which is run in aid of Jack Berry House and the Northern Racing College, has been organised by the Professional Jockeys' Association's Liaison Officer Dale Gibson. Gibson, who will also be competing, said: "There are four fresh faces taking part this year. "We have got Jim Culloty, who is obviously a multiple Gold Cup-winning jockey and a Gold Cup-winning trainer earlier this year, Brendan Powell, a former Grand National winner in the saddle, and Kelly Harrison, who was a successful female rider. Check out Sky Bet's latest ante-post prices for the St Leger "Billy Newnes, who is a former champion apprentice and Oaks-winning jockey, is also coming over from Germany. He is currently the work rider of Sea The Moon, who is one of the favourites for this year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. "I think you have to get some new people in each year. If you just have the same 16 riders, people will not pay as much attention to the race. We have got a good mix of Flat and Jump riders. "I have been talking to them all about their preparations and all seems to be going fine. Billy Newnes is really looking forward to it as is Willie Supple, who won the race last year, and everybody is really up for it. "The race itself actually makes for the feature contest on that first day of the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival. It gets everybody going ahead of what is a fabulous week's racing. "We have 470 people attending our charity lunch, including a number of high-profile guests from the sporting world. Sir Alex Ferguson is the guest of honour. "Michael Owen, Howard Webb, Geoffrey Boycott, Jilly Cooper and Lester Piggott will also be in attendance, so it is a really good cross-section of people. "There will be the charity auction again this year. There are six main prizes, including a safari holiday, a bespoke tailored suit, and FA Cup final tickets. There is also a silent auction as well with a whole bunch of good prizes. "In the last four years, we have raised just over £450,000 and we will be aiming to raise six figures again this year for Jack Berry House and the Northern Racing College." The full list of participants for the Clipper Logistics Legends Classified Stakes is as follows: Gary Bardwell, Jim Culloty, Kevin Darley, George Duffield, Dale Gibson, Kelly Harrison, Luke Harvey, Michael Hills, Gay Kelleway, Carl Llewellyn, Jimmy McCarthy, Billy Newnes, Ollie Pears, Brendan Powell, Willie Ryan and Willie Supple. Rodney Lappin and Allan Mackay are reserves.

David Nicholls has his eye on the feature race at Hamilton Park on Tuesday with his Thirsk raider Layla's Hero. ![http://e1.365dm.com/14/05/640/David-Nicholls_3141674.jpg?20140514183728](http://e1.365dm.com/14/05/640/David-Nicholls_3141674.jpg?20140514183728) David Nicholls (l) trains Layla's Hero The Paul Mulrennan-ridden course winner faces 13 rivals in the £15,000 Betfair Scottish Sprint Series Final Handicap over six furlongs. Nicholls said: "It's a nice prize and he's in great order and I couldn't be happier with him. He's got the penalty for winning at Catterick the other day so he's in good form. "He's had a good year and always runs his race. "We've won with him on good to firm, good to soft and on the all-weather (Southwell) and he doesn't care about the ground as he never checks the weather forecast!" Half of the field are trained in Scotland including Jim Goldie's track winners Go Go Green and Classy Anne while course and distance scorer Mandalay King represents Yorkshire handler Marjorie Fife who boasts a stunning 43 per cent strike-rate at the Lanarkshire venue this term. Kieren Fallon has been booked for three rides including Anastazia in the opening St Andrews Ambulance Nursery Handicap for Paul d'Arcy.

Tom Hogan reports last year's winner Gordon Lord Byron is likely to be ridden by William Buick in Saturday's Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock. ![http://e2.365dm.com/14/09/768x576/horse-racing-william-buick_3199017.jpg?20140902153055](http://e2.365dm.com/14/09/768x576/horse-racing-william-buick_3199017.jpg?20140902153055) William Buick: Set to partner leading contender Gordon Lord Byron Buick has a strong record on the six-year-old having won twice from six previous outings and was last on board the globetrotting performer when eighth in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. Tom Hogan has had another crack at this weekend's feature in mind for Gordon Lord Byron all season and is hoping Buick will be available for ride. The trainer told sportinglife.com: "Shane Foley rode him on Sunday in a piece of work at the weekend and he reckons he's in top form. We couldn't be happier with him. "Basically the jockey for Saturday is Willam Buick, but that's presuming Gregorian won't run. Otherwise there's plenty of jockeys there who have ridden him before. "Joseph O'Brien, Ryan Moore and Wayne Lordan have all ridden him so there's some top-class jockeys that know the horse well. He's not a difficult ride anyway." Looking further down the line, Hogan is keen to return to Sha Tin later in the year for the Hong Kong Mile, in which he was fourth last year. Hogan said: "We have lots of options later on. It's nailed on I'd say we'll be in Hong Kong in December but where we go this side of that is still open - there's plenty of options for him. "Since he's a gelding, we must try and follow the money."

Brown Panther is being primed to go on a retrieval mission in the E300,000 Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger at the Curragh on September 14. ![http://e0.365dm.com/14/05/768x576/brown-panther-richard-kingscote_3150223.jpg?20140529210552](http://e0.365dm.com/14/05/768x576/brown-panther-richard-kingscote_3150223.jpg?20140529210552) Brown Panther: Reported to be in top form Two years ago, the Tom Dascombe-trained stayer was agonisingly beaten a head and a short head in third place behind Royal Diamond and Massiyn but missed the Classic last season after spiking a temperature. Connections of the six-year-old, who was bred by co-owner Michael Owen, have targeted a second crack at this race since he finished third to Cavalryman in the Goodwood Cup. "He seems fine and this race has been the plan since Goodwood," said Dascombe. "We gave him a nice break after he last ran, but he seems to be in great shape again now. "He can handle all types of ground so we'll take whatever he gets. He is ready and he will come over." Roger Varian is aiming Cursory Glance at Group One honours in the E300,000 Moyglare Stud Stakes on the same card. The talented two-year-old filly, winner of Royal Ascot's Albany Stakes and second in the Lowther at York, will be attempting seven furlongs for the first time. "The Moyglare Stud Stakes is the plan for Cursory Glance. She has trained nicely since York, where she shaped as though the step up to seven furlongs would bring about further improvement," said the Newmarket trainer. "Her win at Royal Ascot in the Albany Stakes and her second to Tiggy Wiggy in the Lowther represents some of the strongest juvenile form around and she deserves to have a crack at a Group One."

Towcester will look in the future to recouping some of the fixtures it sold to the Arena Racing Company. ![http://e2.365dm.com/13/11/768x576/Kris-Spin-Mountain-Tunes-Panama-Petrus_3032004.jpg?20131107154514](http://e2.365dm.com/13/11/768x576/Kris-Spin-Mountain-Tunes-Panama-Petrus_3032004.jpg?20131107154514) The Northants venue has dispensed with seven of its jumps meetings as it is keen to establish a greyhound track which is set to open in early December and race three times a week. Even so, the management there is still committed to staging horse racing there especially at times when other courses are susceptible to the wintry weather. "The concern we had was how would horse racing and greyhound racing co-exist on the same day and the logistics involved in that," Towcester chief executive Kevin Ackerman told At The Races. "As a part of that thinking we used the BHA fixture allocation process and looked at potentially transferring fixtures from the Saturday, Sunday and Boxing Day meetings to week slots as a way of alleviating a headache from that perspective. "There was quite a lot of interest from various parties of purchasing and acquiring those fixtures. We engaged in negotiations and subsequently Arc made an offer we found satisfactory and we accepted that offer. "We were a horse racing track that raced 17 times a year. This is about Towcester taking control of its own destiny. "We'd love to recoup some of those fixtures. We'd like to get involved in the next fixture process, but there are certain things we need to deal with. "They are certain requirements engaging in that process from a Horseman's Group perspective. There is a certain level of prize money they would like us to achieve to enable us even to be involved in that process. "We will engage in dialogue with them to see if we can come to an agreement in addition to the fact that those core periods of time where racing suffers from numerous abandonments. "I think we would be an ideal course to take on some of those fixtures at key points in the racing season where racing suffers from a lack of activity. "It genuinely is not gloom and doom here. Towcester is about preserving the business moving forward and we are really excited about that. "This isn't Towcester turning its back on horse racing one iota."
