George Baker, trainer JACK'S REVENGE " “He was too free in the Cambridgeshire last time out. He needs to be tucked in the field. He loves these big-field handicaps and he always seems to run his race, Cambridgeshire aside. He deserves to win some decent prize-money so I’m hoping this is his day. He won’t want the ground too soft so we don’t want to see too much rain.” " Jack's Revenge 3:05 York

16:05 Friday 11th October Racing Tips - 11/10/2013
Some 120 runners could line up today at York and there's plenty of big prices on offer, though finding winners will be somewhat tricky. A couple of handicaps make plenty of appeal and one I want to side with is Pabusar at a decent 20/1 in the hope that he comes back in form fresh from 2 months off. He was runner up here in Listed company back in June with Jamie Spencer on top and that man is in the saddle again today. The issue here is a distinct lack of pace and, as a hold up horse, that's not guaranteed to suit but he is definitely off a handy mark and the yard has hit some form of late. I've chopped and changed over the 'beaten 3' from a Leicester contest recently and can make a case for Fitz Flyer, Kyleakin Lass and the unluckiest of the lot that day Pearl Blue. The latter looks set for a win off this sort of mark but has done all her winning on soft and preference is just for the filly I've supported most of the season who has a good ground 2nd to her name behind Duke Of Firenze, which puts her in good stead for this at 12/1. The champ is back on top and they should get a decent tow through the race from stall 15 with pace in 19 and 20 and can see them winning together off this mark, in this class before the season is out. York 14.30 - Pabusar 1pt e/w York 14.30 - Kyleakin Lass 1pt e/w
This is not the way to select horses but I did want to see a little market support for the very well treated Anderiego before putting him up. He has been useless this year since a staying on and somewhat unlucky 3rd over course and distance in May off 7lb higher but does have wins here and today all depends on a return to form. Market confidence can be a good indication and he's been supported from 25s into 14/1 which still looks a good price. Kieren Fallon has a course and distance win on him and the ground should be about right. There's likely to be a decent gallop and that concerns me slightly for Rockalong who still looks unexposed but likes to race prominently. He does have form over further though and will certainly appreciate a stronger pace than he had last time bend the joker that is Brownsea Brink. Unsurprisingly the form from that race has worked out very well given truer run races next time and that should be the case for Luca Cumani's 4 year old today at 7/1. Again the ground should be no problem and Adam Kirby is 1 from 1 on him. York 15.05 - Anderiego 1pt e/w York 15.05 - Rockalong 1pt e/w
Jayandbee is not as strong in the market as he might have been given a course and distance win on penultimate start before falling after only 2 flights at Plumpton last time. Whilst he has had his jumping inconsistencies, it wasn't really his fault at Plumpton and he looks progressive enough to be a decent bet at 3/1. Philip Hobbs has a monster record here this year and the ground has dried out nicely for him. Orange Nassau will be a danger but he finished last season in poor form and I'd rather watch him, though he has come for some support and may be back on song - the yard is certainly going very well. Whilst Longsdon's horse is down 8lb from his last run and down in class, Hobbs' runner is 8lb the other way and up in class. They are closely matched and I think the winner will come from one of them but I'd rather stick with the form horse given they are priced up similarly. Newton Abbot 16.05 - Jayandbee 2pt win

View from connections ahead of Saturday's Coral Sprint Trophy at York. Baccarat: Bids to bounce back from defeat in Ayr Gold Cup Richard Fahey is hoping Baccarat can supply him with a third victory in the last six years in Saturday's Coral Sprint Trophy at York. The Sir Robert Ogden-owned four-year-old landed the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon earlier this season but could manage only fifth when well fancied for the Ayr Gold Cup last month. It is no secret that Fahey expected him to go much closer that day and as he is still unexposed, this will only be the 10th start of his career, connections are hoping to see him bounce back to winning ways. "I think a combination of factors stopped him wining at Ayr," said Ogden's racing manager Barry Simpson. "He wasn't drawn on the right side, the pace was all away from him, and I don't think he ran as well as we all expected him to. He ran OK, but not to the best of his ability as we think he's a very talented horse. "Obviously, all the races he runs in are very competitive - handicap sprints are - and with speed horses you can run a race 10 times and get 10 different winners. "We expect a good run. It will be his last run of the season and it should tell us where we go next year with him." One horse who certainly is not unexposed is the 11-year-old dual Nunthorpe winner Borderlescott, who has returned to action this year following a short retirement. He has been far from disgraced in better races than this and has the assistance of Kieren Fallon in the saddle. "He seems really well, although we wouldn't want to see too much rain," said trainer Robin Bastiman. "He's happy and his work has been good. His best form is over five (furlongs) but a flat, sharp six at York should be fine. Kieren Fallon rides - he has won on him before. "He's still got the ability to run well in a race like this. It would be great if he could win. It's our local track, just up the road, and a great place to have winners." The one Irish-trained runner in the field is Andrew Slattery's An Saighdur, placed in the Ayr Silver Cup for the last two years on his only other previous visits to Britain. "He should have a leading chance, especially as my men already at the track tell me there's a nice bit of moisture in the ground," said Slattery. "He's doesn't have to have it soft but he just can't really go on good to firm. We run him over five, six and seven furlongs but I think his best trip is six and a half. Over five he's flat out and a stiff seven can just catch him out. "For the last two years Ayr has been his aim and he's been a little unlucky both times. Declan McDonogh rides. He's won on him three times and should be full of confidence after winning a Group One on Maarek last week." Hugo Palmer has booked Chris Hayes for Khubala and is hoping for better luck than when the pair last teamed up. "Chris has ridden for me once before and he was beaten a short-head on Tipping Over in a sales race at Fairyhouse," said Palmer. "He's had a fantastic season and I think he's going to be a superstar. I think Khubala saw too much daylight at Ayr, and the ground was a bit too soft. He's in very good form at home and he's threatened to win one of these big handicaps all season. "Whatever happens, this will be his last run as a colt as I think gelding him will bring about even more improvement next season." Mick Easterby will be hoping to have one final winner at his local track before he retires with Ayr Silver Cup winner Ancient Cross. Part-owner Ritchie Fiddes said; "Mick loves York so it would be great to send him off with one last big win. "It was lovely to win the Silver Cup but unfortunately none of us could be there, so it was great for Mick to lift it. When this horse won the Gosforth Park Cup two years ago, people said he couldn't win off 95, well he's nine now and won off 97 last time. "That was his first win over six and he seems to like sticky ground and we've left the cheek pieces on. This horse cost not very much and he's responsible for getting me into racing and I've definitely caught the bug. I think we'll keep him going next year." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View from connections ahead of Saturday's Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket. Sir Mark Prescott: Chasing first win in the Cesarewitch Sir Mark Prescott can recall a few renewals of the Betfred Cesarewitch to have slipped out of his grasp but he returns once again with another viable contender in Newmarket's marathon handicap. Renowned for the astute placing of his horses, the charismatic Newmarket trainer maintains Pallasator's light campaign before this weekend is not part of some Machiavellian scheme. "The trainer's record in the Cesarewitch is lamentable - I've had five beaten favourites including two near certainties," said Prescott. "I thought that it would take an Act of Parliament to stop Alleluia from winning in 2001 after she had won the Doncaster Cup, but she fractured her pelvis with two furlongs to run. Thankfully we were able to save her as a broodmare. "The other horse I remember well which should have won was Hasten To Add (1993), who was very much a talking horse and was owned by an American lady called Abercrombie. "American racing is all on dirt tracks, a mile more or less round, and I told her she'd better come over and watch the horse run as he was favourite for the Cesarewitch. "She said tell me about the race, and the first thing I said was it's two and a quarter miles. She said 'right, how many runners?' "The largest field in the States is 14, so I told her just the 36. I did think she thought I was taking the mickey, and she said 'how many laps do they go round'. "She couldn't believe it. Anyway the horse ran well but just got beaten. The press came around and asked her what she thought of Newmarket. She said 'Gee, all these dukes and duchesses standing in the rain looking at nothing'." Pallasator won three times last season but did not run this term until last month's Old Borough Cup at Haydock, when he was third. "We wanted to start him off in the Northumberland Plate, but we had a hold-up and we were eight weeks behind with him," he said. "Pallasator has a very, very good chance if he stays. He does get himself into quite a stew before the race so he will go down to the start with a pony. "You have to go the full two and a quarter miles down to the start, so for a horse who gets on edge, it's long way to go. "He always works well and is not a slow stayer but he would be vulnerable to those who really stay and grind it out." Nicky Henderson has collected the Cesarewitch twice so far with Landing Light and Caracciola and he is back with another hurdler, Lieutenant Miller, and French recruit Earth Amber. The former was placed in the Ascot and Goodwood Stakes, and Henderson said: "He had a couple of hard races there but he is a toughened performer and we have given him a little freshen up. "He has gone up in the weights without winning a race but that is just a fact of life in racing and fast ground definitely suits him. "Earth Amber might prefer the ground a bit easier, a drop of rain would help her. She was quite fit when she came over from France where she had just finished second to a horse called Les Beaufs, who went on to win a Group One, and we then decided to shelve plans to run her over hurdles last winter. "I'd like to stick them both in Earth Amber's stall if we were allowed." Lieutenant Miller's owner Henry Ponsonby also has the Ebor winner and top-weight Tiger Cliff running in his silks. "I'm happy with him coming into the race," said trainer Lady Cecil. "He had a bit of a break after York and he did a nice piece of work last week. He stayed well when he was second in the Ascot Stakes, and any rain will be appreciated. Another leading contender is still trained in France, the Mikel Delzangles-trained Smoky Hill. Fourth in a Group Three last time, he carries the colours of the Marquesa de Moratalla. Delzangles was an assistant to Jimmy Fizgerald when Trainglot won the race in 1990 in those famous red colours. "We nearly ran him in the Prix du Cadran but this race is worth more and we can always go for the Cadran next year. With over 30 runners he is going to need some luck, but it is always great to race in England," he said. "The distance will suit him as, rather surprisingly given that his dam, Danasakya, was placed in the Cheveley Park Stakes, he is a very strong stay

View from connections ahead of the Dubai Challenge Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. Andrew Balding: Hopeful for Highland Colori Andrew Balding's Ayr Gold Cup winner Highland Colori takes a big step up in class for tomorrow's Dubai Challenge Stakes The five-year-old was partnered by Oisin Murphy in Scotland but with the rider unable to use his claim at Group Two level, Highland Colori will be reunited with David Probert, who won four races on the gelding last year. Highland Colori will not only be stepping up a level from handicap company, he will also be switching back up to seven furlongs. "It's a big step up in class for him but he likes Newmarket and won the Ayr Gold Cup in such good style," said Balding. "He always seems to come to himself in the autumn, I think it's because he likes a bit of dig in the ground so the rain has been very helpful. "He's very versatile with regards the trip, he's as good over six and seven furlongs. "David has won lots of races on him so it would have been very unfair not to have given him the ride back." Irish trainer Willie McCreery is hoping for a big run from his filly, Fiesolana. She has enjoyed a great summer at home and races in Britain for the first time after failing to make her mark in Group One company last time. McCreery said: "The race didn't work out for us in the Matron. She got there too soon, through no fault of the jockey as she likes to get on with it, but I thought she ran well enough. "She's versatile in terms of the ground and is a very uncomplicated horse. Hopefully there won't be too many traffic problems as she's usually up with the pace anyway." Sabrina Harty will also cross the Irish Sea with Ansgar, a good second to Brendan Bracken in a Group Three last time out. "Ansgar is a big horse who has just kept growing over the years and eats like a monster. We have been delighted with him since his last run, he is in great form, very, very fresh, and the drop back to seven furlongs should suit him," said Harty. Harty warned, however, he does not want "dead ground" and added: "He is a genuine, gutsy horse with plenty of pace - he has a huge stride and likes to be able to use it." Godolphin's Lockwood was beaten by a good one last time in Viztoria, but Saeed bin Suroor's charge would prefer more give in the ground. Racing manager Simon Crisford said: "Lockwood is progressing along the right lines and has had a good campaign - he stepped up to a different level with his second place in the Park Stakes last time, it was a very good run. "The softer the better for him." Peter Schiergen comes over from Germany again with Amarillo, a winner at Haydock already this season and a close second to Moonlight Cloud in July before meeting with defeat at home the last twice. Schiergen said: "Amarillo has suffered from bad luck in each of his last two races and prior to that chased home Moonlight Cloud in Paris. "Last time at Munich there was no pace and he was trapped on the inside before having to switch to get a run." Richard Hannon runs both Trumpet Major and Libranno. Libranno is back from a jaunt overseas while Trumpet Major has been off since having a breathing operation. "Libranno ran well in the big mile race at Turkey last time, but this seven furlongs is his trip, and his last win came in this grade and over this trip in the Park Stakes at Doncaster 13 months ago," Hannon told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. "Trumpet Major has had a wind operation since he last ran in the Summer Mile at Ascot in July, but he has looked a different horse since he resumed fast work, and going back to seven furlongs is not a problem as he won the Champagne Stakes over this trip as a two-year-old." Aidan O'Brien runs the highly-regarded Darwin. He had his bubble burst when behind Ansgar last time out, but wears cheekpieces here.

York, 11 October 2013
2.00, first race
The Stewards noted that IFTAAR (IRE), unplaced, had interfered with MR MATTHEWS (IRE), unplaced, who then interfered with SMART SALUTE, unplaced, shortly after the start but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
3.05, third race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference approximately two furlongs out. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that JACK’S REVENGE (IRE), placed second, ridden by Pat Cosgrave, had interfered with TWO FOR TWO (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Daniel Tudhope. The Stewards found Cosgrave in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he made a manoeuvre to his left causing interference. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Friday 25 October 2013.
3.40, fourth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, CITY ZEN (IRE), ridden by Barry McHugh, had interfered with GALVANIZE, placed third, ridden by Jamie Spencer. The Stewards found McHugh in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his horse to drift left causing interference. They cautioned him as to his future conduct in races.
4.15, fifth race
The Stewards noted that ITLAAQ, unplaced, had interfered with KASHMIR PEAK (IRE), unplaced, who then interfered with HANOVERIAN BARON, placed third, approaching the final furlong but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why George Chaloner, the rider of RIO’S ROSANNA (IRE), had been slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the start they accepted his explanation that the blindfold became caught on the bridle.
5.20, seventh race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by David Bergin, the rider of MONAKOVA (IRE), placed second, from shortly after the two furlong marker. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that had used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Bergin for 9 days as follows: Saturday 26, Monday 28, Tuesday 29, Wednesday 30, Thursday 31 October and Friday 1, Saturday 2, Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 November 2013.
